WWW Deep Reviews: We Tested the 10 Best Lip Plumpers So You Don’t Have To

    [ad_1]

Each installment of Deep Reviews is weeks—and sometimes months—in the making. Once we land on a subject or category to test, we’ll consult our very own staffers and editors (because we happen to think we have damn fine taste when it comes to all things beauty) to come up with our own “best” list.

The Research: For this Deep Review, we looked to other publications—Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Allure, InStyle, Byrdie—and made a list of the products each site recommended above all others. Next, we cross-examined the results from each publication while profiling every last review and rating across major online beauty retailers to see which formulas showed up the most and seemed to be the most satisfactorily rated among beauty shoppers as well.

The Experts: Since our editors also have access to the best makeup artists in the business, we added an additional expert component to the review process and asked three artists to share the one lip plumper they’d crown the absolute best. They try hundreds of products, so this is a biggie!

In the end, we came up with 10 lip plumpers that beauty lovers, editors, and makeup artists categorize as the best. Of course, we could serve you that top 10 list and end the process there, but we know that still isn’t narrow enough. Instead, we wanted to land on three completely unbeatable formulas you can invest in and love.

The Overall Favorite: We took everything into account—plumping intensity, smell, comfort level, shine, stickiness, longevity, price point, packaging, finish… Literally anything that you can think of, we analyzed it to the nth degree. And since we looked at the full picture, that meant the lip plumper that had the most noticeable results wouldn’t necessarily take the cake if it was sticky, smelled bad, or stung the hell out of our lips.

The Most Extreme Results: We solely based our decision on the noticeable plumping effects, awarding the formula that resulted in the most dramatic volume change in our lips.

The Best Budget Buy: We decided which of the more affordably priced options was a standout lip plumper that still held its own against the more expensive numbers in the bunch.

  • I Tried Tons of Brown Eyeliners to Bring You the Very Best 10

I Tried Tons of Brown Eyeliners to Bring You the Very Best 10

    [ad_1]

Much like black, brown eyeliner can be applied in a number of different ways. I personally love using a brown pencil or crayon for tight-lining my eyes. I angle the pencil upwards and apply it right into my lash line which helps to add subtle definition and creates the illusion of fuller lashes without it looking like I have any eyeliner on. If you’ve previously found black eyeliner over-powering, but tight-lining with a brown liner has a totally different result which you’ll probably find more flattering.

“The great thing about brown eyeliner is that you don’t have to be too neat and if you want a smoky, smudgy look you can just use a pencil brush to blend,” says Clarkson. She also recommends tight-lining to start with, but for a bolder look she suggests dragging the brown liner into a wing whilst keeping your eyes open to add some extra shape. “If you feel like it adds too much product, instead of applying directly with the pencil, put a generous amount onto the back of your hand and use a small angled brush to apply along the lash line, building it up to your perfect amount.”

Of course, brown eyeliners also come in felt tip pen applicators, which can be used for a more traditional thick line or cat-eye wing. Although this does require a steady hand (and cotton buds to clean up any mistakes!), any error in the shape will be much less noticeable than a black eyeliner would be. Plus, the overall effect will be more subtle.

  • The 10 Ultimate Lip Stains for a “I Just Naturally Have Perfect Lips” Effect

The 10 Ultimate Lip Stains for a “I Just Naturally Have Perfect Lips” Effect

    [ad_1]

What is it about lips stains that have beauty lovers everywhere hooked? My educated guess is that it has everything to do with fuss-free application. Like all makeup products, when applied properly and with care, lip stains can completely transform your finished look. How to apply it, however, depends on the formula. For cream-based lip stains that are full coverage and highly pigmented, starting at the center of your lips and sweeping the product toward the outer corners makes for an even base to build the color. Alternatively, you might have an easier time applying water-based lip stains in a similar way to how one might apply lip gloss.

Lip stains may also differ in their finish: drying matte, shiny, pigmented, sheer, or with diffused color. It might be worth it to study a lip stain’s packaging before making the investment for transparency about everything from the ingredients that make up each product’s unique formula to tips for application and predicted drying times. My biggest piece of advice? Opt for a lip stain that’s both long-wearing and transfer-resistant for a natural-looking wash of color that lasts all day.

Below, you’ll find the 10 best lip stains on the market based on thousands of reviews and my personal product go-tos. There’s an option here for everyone, from YSL Beauty’s crowd-favorite Vinyl Cream Lip Stain to Rose Inc’s Lip Cream, the brand’s newly released long-wearing lip stain. Celeb Makeup Artists Say This Controversial Item Can Make or Break Your Makeup

    [ad_1]

Every makeup artist I consulted seemed to agree that the best way to apply powder is with a powder puff or a small/medium powder brush. “After applying and blending all your wet products, such as foundation, concealer, and cream contour, make sure there are no creases then gently pat the setting powder into the skin,” Talias explains. “My favorite way to apply setting powder is with a triangle powder puff.”

Gabbay also has a few more tips. “If you’re looking for a light set, try using a small, tapered dome brush and dust powder just in the center of the face. Think center of the forehead, under the eyes, and chin. This technique will leave skin looking as natural as possible, leaving the outer parts of the face dewy. If you tend to get a little shinier throughout the day and want to lock in your foundation, use a powder puff. This will give you the most coverage and prevent shine from peeking through. Work your setting powder into your puff, tapping any excess on the back of your hand. Push the powder into the skin in a patting motion, making sure to never drag or pull as it will disturb the product underneath.”

Skin Tints Are Trending on TikTok—IMO, This One Outshines Them All

    [ad_1]

If you like no-makeup makeup, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: A good skin tint is the most essential product to achieve the “my skin but better” look. When I was researching (read: shopping) skin tints on TikTok, the same one kept popping up: the It’s Like Skin 2-in-1 Concealer + Tint ($28) from Keys Soulcare, a brand created by singer Alicia Keys and dermatologist Renée Snyder, MD. This tint is the ultimate makeup-skincare hybrid—it’s a buildable foundation and concealer, and it also has two of my favorite ingredients: niacinamide and squalane. So yeah, this is really the only product to reach for when you have literally five minutes to get ready but still want to nourish your skin and have that gorgeous lit-from-within glow. The affordable price and impressive 40-shade range also deserve a round of applause. Curious to see how I’d use this product with some of the brand’s other products? Keep scrolling to see the daily ritual you’ll want to copy. By the way, from now until September 18, you can score 15% off any purchase of $85 or more with the code WWW15. (You’re welcome.)

    [ad_1]

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one Who What Wear team member or friend of the brand will share the top 30 fashion and beauty finds on their current wish list.

Listen, I love summer, but spending so much time outside, under the sun, and in the water, takes a toll. Despite my best efforts to apply (and reapply) sunscreen, use hydrating products, moisturize my hair, and lay off heat tools, I find myself in need of a boost come fall. That’s where I’m at right now. When I look in the mirror, I see dark spots and lackluster skin. I see split ends and breakage in my hair. Even my nails are worse for wear.

Alas, I’m a beauty editor, and I won’t put up with this. That’s why, this year, I’m taking my fall beauty routine seriously. I’m investing in high-tech skin devices and science-backed skincare products. I’m investing in moisturizing hair masks and shine-boosting treatments. I’m even focusing on using makeup products that will help me minimize the new imperfections that popped up this summer. In other words, I’m consciously and meticulously crafting my fall beauty routine so I can squeeze every last benefit out of it. Ahead, check out all 30 items.

The Secret to TikTok’s Angel Skin Trend is This $20 Foundation

    [ad_1]

Every time I see a new makeup trend on TikTok, I can’t help but halt my endless scrolling. Sure, Hailey Bieber’s latte makeup might have broken the internet, but I recently discovered an easy technique that gives you the most ethereal (yet natural) glow. I’ve always wanted to be able to achieve that airbrushed, dewy, and radiant look without getting my makeup done professionally or spending hours doing it myself, and this trend might be the way to do that.

What TikTok users have deemed “angel skin,” is an otherworldly radiance that looks airbrushed, yet totally natural. The best part? the routine to get said angel skin isn’t overly complicated and it doesn’t require a lot of steps. What it does require, though, according to one TikTok user is the use of this $20 foundation from Sephora. It polishes the glow, gives it that professional finish, and pairs so well with a concealer, foundation, or skin tint. If this look is your vibe, then definitely keep scrolling. I’m sharing the key product for this look that you just can’t skip along with some advice on how to execute straight from a celebrity makeup artist.

  • This Blush-and-Lipstick Combo Creates Peak French-Girl Makeup, and I’m Obsessed

This Blush-and-Lipstick Combo Creates Peak French-Girl Makeup, and I’m Obsessed

    [ad_1]

Traditionally, French beauty has rested on a few foolproof pillars—namely tousled hair à la Jane Birkin, a fresh complexion à la Françoise Hardy, and effortless and slightly undone makeup à la Brigitte Bardot. Even when French women wear something bold, such as red lipstick, they still manage to do it in a way that feels natural and lived-in.

There’s just something about it that speaks to me, and because of that, I’ve spent countless hours reading articles, watching videos, and searching the internet to find the products French women trust. Somewhere along the way, I stumbled across Violette_FR, the YouTube channel belonging to a French makeup artist who creates impossibly chic and colorful looks for her clients, friends, and colleagues. Sure, I loved the looks, but I loved her easy-to-follow tutorials and effortless application techniques even more. For years, I followed her on social media to gain inspiration and product recommendations.

In 2021, Violette launched a namesake beauty brand. As you can imagine, I was excited. I mean, who wouldn’t want to use products formulated by one of their favorite makeup artists? I placed my first order, and the rest was history. Since then, two of the brand’s products have become makeup-kit essentials because they’re easy to use, require little-to-no touch-ups, and give me that French-girl effect that I love.

A Celebrity Makeup Artist Just Showed Me 5 Latte Makeup Hacks for Brown Skin

    [ad_1]

Latte makeup is sweeping the internet thanks to Hailey Bieber and I can’t get enough of it. I’ve always loved rich, chocolate brown tones when it comes to makeup, but I often struggled to find the right ones that worked with my natural olive skin tone. If you’re Black or Brown, I’m sure you can relate. Some brown tones just don’t really pop on our skin—you have to find the right ones for you.

Latte makeup is exactly what it sounds like. It creates a soft, bronze and brown sun-kissed look using rich (dare I say, creamy) shades. It’s definitely a simple look, but adds so much warmth to the skin, giving you a sunny glow year-round. Sure, it works great for late summer, but I’ll be wearing this look well into fall, too. For a few tips on how to create the look for Black and Brown skin tones, I tapped celebrity makeup artist and founder of Color May VaryRenée Loiz. She shared a few tips and her favorite products to try for this below.

  • One of My All-Time Favorite Makeup Brands Launched the Collection of My Dreams

One of My All-Time Favorite Makeup Brands Launched the Collection of My Dreams

    [ad_1]

Unlike a handful of my friends and family members who grew up riding, I really only discovered my love for horses about a year ago when I visited The Lodge at Blue Sky in Park City, Utah during a press trip. The Lodge at Blue Sky is home to the Saving Gracie Equine Healing Foundation, and when you visit, there’s countless opportunities and activities the resort offers that allow you to meet, ride, and interact with the horses. (Perhaps I’d simply been watching too much Yellowstone, but all it took was one lasso lesson and trail ride, and I was instantly obsessed.)

Aching to return and relive the magic as soon as possible, you can imagine how excited I was when Chantecaille invited me to join them this past June in celebration of the upcoming launch of their Wild Mustang Collection which just went live the first week of August. Of course, because it’s Chantecaille, the products within the collection are stunning and drool-inducing, but the conservation efforts tied to the collection and the brand’s collaboration with the American Wild Horse Campaign was the true focus of the trip. (Something I found incredibly refreshing.)

If you’re at all familiar with Chantecaille, you know that philanthropy is a huge focus for the brand and the through-line for almost everything it does. Not only are the brand’s products made with pure ingredients and sans phthalates, sulfates, mineral oil, petrolatum, palm oil, and GMOs, but every collection gives back to various philanthropy beauty partners all around the globe in support of wildlife and nature conservation. (Each product sold on Chantecaille’s website instantly donates 5% to its partner charity through their partnership with ShoppingGives.)

To celebrate the new collection (which is the stuff fall makeup dreams are basically made of) I’m diving into the collection’s cause in addition to each product the collection is comprised of. Keep scrolling!

  • If Endless Compliments Aren’t Your Thing, *Don’t* Try This Mascara

If Endless Compliments Aren’t Your Thing, *Don’t* Try This Mascara

    [ad_1]

Celebrity makeup artists Elizabeth Seropian explains exactly what a tubing formula is and what makes it different than a traditional mascara. “Tubing mascara creates water-resistant, tube-like coats around each lash, providing smudge-proof and long-lasting wear,” she says. “Unlike traditional mascaras that coat lashes with pigment, tubing mascara creates flexible tubes that wrap around lashes, preventing smudging and flaking. It’s easily removed with warm water, as the tubes slide off without the need for makeup removers.”

Tubing formulas sound great in theory, but like I said above, it did take me a while to find the right formula for me. If you’re shopping for a tubing formula, it’s a good idea to look for other lash enhancing ingredients that help promote growth and condition them. Ingredients like castor oil and shea butter are really great for this. For both my favorite formulas and Seropian’s, keep on reading.

These Under-$12 Lip Glosses Give High-End Ones a Run for Their Money

    [ad_1]

If you asked me whether I prefer a lipstick or a gloss, I’d pick a gloss any day. I’m honestly glad they’ve made a comeback the past few years because, to me, they’re so much easier to work with than a bolder-hued lip stain. Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely a time and place for a strong matte shade or a deep, lustrous red, but gloss just feels right for an everyday look. It adds a bit of plumpness to the lips, never dries you out, and adds just the right amount of color without looking like you tried too hard.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, though, that many people don’t know. The best lip glosses can actually be found at—you guessed it—the drugstore! Trust me, you won’t want to sleep on these gorgeous options. IMHO, they rival a few of my favorite high-end formulas while costing a fraction of the price. For all my favorites, keep reading. Plenty of great options ahead.

  • Omg—Prada Beauty’s Lipsticks and Eyeshadows Are Already Here

Omg—Prada Beauty’s Lipsticks and Eyeshadows Are Already Here

    [ad_1]

Right now, there’s one phrase on the fashion crowds’ lips—Prada Beauty. No beauty launch has caused this much commotion in the fashion space in recent memory. It makes sense, as no one knows quite how to marry classic and modern together quite like Miuccia Prada, the queen of understated elegance meets eccentric style.

Now, Prada is taking that same sensibility into the beauty space. Prada Beauty is just debuted with their “Rethinking Beauty” campaign. The collection aims to feel both highly personal and accessible, with skincare and makeup that tap into the best of both minimalism and maximalism. There’s Prada Skin and Prada Color, and each perfectly encapsulates the heart of the iconic brand.

While Prada Beauty formally launches in the United States in January 2024, it looks like we’ve lucked out—some of the products are already available on the site. If you want to be the first to try the new lipsticks and eye palettes, you can. The eyeshadow palettes draw from Prada’s archival prints, while the lipsticks are inspired by the iconic Saffiano leather, which reinvents the idea of what matte lipstick looks like as we know it.

This Foundation Is the Celeb Secret to Flawless Skin—It’s On Sale

    [ad_1]

Do you ever see a photo of a celebrity and wonder how on Earth their makeup looks so flawless? Sure, a lot of this has to do with celebrity makeup artists, access to the top derms and facialists, and Photoshop, but there is one product that celebrity makeup artists consistently reach to more than any other for a flawless, skin-like finish.

The product in question? Chantecaille Future Skin Gel Foundation. Makeup artists have been reaching for this product for years, but it first garnered attention when it became known as the foundation that celebrity makeup artist Donni Davy reached for on the Euphoria set. “These foundations look like skin, they do not look at all like foundation,” Davy told Who What Wear UK. “It melts into the skin and looks so much like skin.”

The trick to this foundation is all in the formula. Chantecaille Future Skin is an oil-free gel, which allows for customizable, lightweight, and buildable coverage. It melts seamlessly into skin, like an IRL Instagram filter. Since it’s made with 60 percent water, aloe, and Camellia sinensis (tea leaf) extract, the formula also hydrates and nourishes skin while it evens and adds coverage.

Every product has a downside, and the downside to Chantecaille Future Skin is that it’s $89, which is quite a pretty penny for foundation. Even though the jar lasts a long time and is definitely worth the investment, I still feel uneasy shelling out so much for a face product. Right now, though, Dermstore is having their Anniversary Sale, and one of the products included in the sale is Chantecaille Future Skin. From August 8 until August 17, you can use the code CHEERS at checkout to get 25% off Chantecaille’s cult-favorite foundation (and plenty of other beloved products).

Removing Makeup Is the Bane of My Existence—These Under-$20 Options Make It Easy

    [ad_1]

First and foremost, you need to know what to look for in a makeup-removing product. Obviously, you want it to work, but you also want it to suit your skin type and your specific skin concerns. Here’s a good rule of thumb to follow: Dry skin? Try an emollient cleansing oil or balm. These can dissolve makeup while giving the skin much-needed moisture. Oily or acne-prone skin? Ditch the oils and balms and reach for a lightweight, oil-free formula instead (such as micellar water). These can whisk away makeup without clogging pores. Normal or combination skin? Try both and choose whichever experience you like better.

Shopping for an effective setting powder may seem straightforward and painless, but it is often tricky. It begins with choosing between loose or pressed formulas, which, while virtually the same, work differently and lead to various results depending on the application tool you choose. When it comes to picking out your setting powder from thousands of drugstore brands, knowing which ones have continued to live up to and exceed customer expectations can be helpful (especially when glowing reviews come from someone who’s based their career around creating stunning makeup looks for some of the world’s most recognizable names).
