  • Editor’s Audit: A Review Of 5 Popular Lip Plumpers & Which To Buy

Editor’s Audit: A Review Of 5 Popular Lip Plumpers & Which To Buy

    [ad_1]

This topical formula is the most comparable to actual lip filler, IMO. (I don’t personally have any filler at this point in my life, but I’ve talked to other beauty fans who do, and they agree.) Like the previous product, DermInfusions contains four molecular weights of HA to usher water into each layer of the lip skin. Trehalose, another humectant, adds even more water-binding properties to plump the lips with moisture.

It also contains a peptide blend (palmitoyl tripeptide-38 and palmitoyl tripeptide-1, to be specific) to help stimulate collagen and give lips a firmer appearance. Finally, the treatment includes known skin soothers—ectoin, bisabolol, and centella asiatica—to heal chapped lips, prevent dryness, and protect the skin from environmental aggressors (which can make lips appear dull).

You can read my full review of the lip treatment here for more info, but overall, this is my favorite option. I love how instantly full and vibrant my lips look after just a few minutes, and without any additional swipe of color. It does come with a slight tingle, but the sensation goes away after about a minute. The finish reads just like a nonsticky lip oil—I’m obsessed.

The only downside I can think of is that it’s less inconspicuous than other options on this list. It looks high-tech, and it’s a relatively large pen, so you can’t really stash it in your pocket or small handbag like you might a standard lip balm. I personally don’t mind the design—I’ll happily gush about the effective formula to anyone who asks me what I’m applying.

  • I Have TikTok Beauty Fatigue, But This Honey Lips Hack Is Too Pretty Not to Love

I Have TikTok Beauty Fatigue, But This Honey Lips Hack Is Too Pretty Not to Love

    [ad_1]

To prep and set your lips for a look like this, Higgins has a few key hacks she swears by. “I have a whole system [for] making sure your lip look will stay in place all day,” she explains. “First of all, lip prep is essential. Scrub the lips gently with a wash cloth or cotton round to remove any flakey skin. Next, put on a lip mask while doing the rest of your makeup (I always leave the lips for last, so that they should have plenty of time to soak in the lip treatment).

“I love Catrice’s Lip Lovin’ Overnight Lip Mask. When it is time to do the lips, blot off the lip treatment with a tissue thoroughly. You want to make sure you remove it, as it will cause any products on the lips to run, since its very emollient. Afterwards take the lip liner around the border of your lips, buff the edges of the lip liner with your finger, then (this is the magic part), take a little translucent powder on a powder puff and go over the entire lip. Then follow with the gold shadow and gloss to finish your honey lips look. The powder creates a matte base for the other lip products to grasp onto, making it last!”

What I’m about to say may blow your mind: Makeup doesn’t have to be expensive to yield impressive results. Yes, you read that correctly. Wondering how I know this? I’ve been doing research on the best products on the market, and I’ve landed on some gems. Case in point: this lip plumper from TikTok-viral brand SheGlam. It plumps up my lips without any stinging or burning, and it also has coconut oil for the most irresistibly juicy pout. I’m shopping it in all shades (I’ve specifically been eyeing Pink Flamingo, Hot Stuff, and First Crush) and also grabbing some for my sister and my besties because, you know, why not share the love? I was so impressed by this viral must-have that I’ve done a full edit of the brand’s absolute best including lip gloss, eye shadow, and more. • Thank Me Now—This Concealer Is Self-Setting and Can Handle 90-Degree Heat

Thank Me Now—This Concealer Is Self-Setting and Can Handle 90-Degree Heat

    [ad_1]

What was the process for creating this self-setting formula?

Mario Dedivanovic: I wanted to create a multiuse formula that was both self-setting and worked harmoniously with powder. The minimalist wanting to cut down on the number of makeup steps can benefit from the self-setting aspect, but anyone looking to bake for an extra-refined finish can set with powder.

What makes this product different from the
    others on the market?

What makes it most unique is the amount of lift and brightness you get from such a small amount of concealer. It instantly gives an awakened appearance.

What do you think is the biggest mistake people make when applying concealer?

Applying too much. Using more concealer than is needed can accentuate fine lines, cause creasing, and look unnatural. A little amount of SurrealSkin Awakening Concealer goes a long way while still brightening, blurring, and lifting.

This product is going viral for its coverage. Do you have any application tips for beginners?

Start by prepping skin with your favorite eye cream, then dab a small amount of concealer under the eyes and pat it in with the F5 Brush for the most natural, seamless application. The formula is medium coverage and buildable, so layer more if needed.

Drop Everything—These VMA Beauty Looks Are the Best We’ve Ever Seen

    [ad_1]

When it comes to memorable moments, the MTV VMAs has the market cornered. Every year, the VMAs give us an essential new piece of pop culture history. Think of every major moment the VMAs have given us—Britney performing with a python, Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress, Beyoncé announcing her first pregnancy, and more.

This year, we expect all the drama and flair that usually comes with the VMAs, but our eyes are turned to something else: the beauty looks. In the realm of award shows, most play it fairly tame with beauty: think smoky eyes, polished chignons, and classic lips. The VMAs, on the other hand, are a totally different story.

Every year the the VMAs, celebrities take chances with their hair, makeup, and nails, and that’s what makes it one of our favorite nights. Last year alone, Taylor Swift showed up with face jewels on, Lil Nas X sported blue-toned eyes, and Chloë Bailey had 3-dimensional nails. Keep reading for the best beauty looks at the 2023 VMAs—I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Whether You Hoard Beauty Products Or Keep It Minimal—These Makeup Bags Are It

Whether You Hoard Beauty Products Or Keep It Minimal—These Makeup Bags Are It

    [ad_1]

To say I have a lot of beauty products would be an understatement. Despite working in fashion, I have  have tried tons of products and accumulated plenty. (Thank you to our beauty editors for always sharing the goods.) So many, in fact, I had to take a whole day to get it all organized. I started with containers for the products I haven’t gotten a chance to use yet, but I got stumped coming up with a plan for organizing the products I enjoy using frequently.

I thought about small plastic containers, but that would still leave me fishing through products each day. So as an alternative, I went with three different options: a large makeup organizer; a medium cosmetic bag with individual compartments to hold the items like my sunscreen, primer, and setting spray; and then a small bag that I can pop into any handbag or a fanny pack. (This has kept me from losing and searching for lip gloss and lipstick.)

With my own experiences in mind, I’ve curated a list of the best makeup bags for everything from a night out to organizing an extensive library of beauty products.

  • “Your Brows Look Amazing” Is All You’ll Hear After Using These 10 Brow Gels

“Your Brows Look Amazing” Is All You’ll Hear After Using These 10 Brow Gels

    [ad_1]

As a beauty editor, my makeup kit is filled to the brim with brow products of all sizes, shapes, and formulas. There’s a time and place for each of them, but if I’m being honest, I have a favorite, and that’s brow gel. It’s the one brow product I use almost every single day and often without any other pencils and pomades to go with it. There’s simply nothing else that can define, volumize, and shape my arches in a single swipe.

As I’ve gotten older and taken a more natural approach to my daily makeup look, I’ve come to love brow gel even more. After all, full and fluffy brows are the key to looking polished—whether I’m wearing only concealer and lip balm that day or a full face of makeup. Because of this, I have over 15 brow gels lying around (yes, I counted), and I’ve tested way more than that. I’m guessing over 75. I feel somewhat qualified to share the best ones based on my own experience, word-of-mouth recommendations from other beauty editors, and internet reviews. Keep scrolling to see them all!

We all know New York is the city that never sleeps, and this is especially true during New York Fashion Week. • “Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

“Champagne Cheeks” Are Venice Film Festival’s Most Notable Beauty Trend (So Far)

    [ad_1]

This year, we’ve seen a slew of food and drink-inspired makeup trends. As it turns out, you can create a beauty look based on all of your favorite foods—whether it’s tomatoes, strawberries, dirty martinis, or glazed donuts. The world is your oyster (oyster girl makeup coming soon?).

Next on the docket, apparently, is champagne. More specifically, “champagne cheeks” swept the Venice Film Festival. Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Madisin Rian, and India Amarteifio all sported champagne cheeks at Armani’s One Night Only Haute Couture Prive Show.

What exactly are champagne cheeks? The latest trend is actually a highlighter technique. For champagne cheeks, you’ll want to use a champagne-toned highlighter—think a gold-toned beige—and sweep it all over your cheeks. The result is radiant while still being subtle.

In Venice, Sweeney, Apatow, Rian, and Amarteifio all used the exact same product to create this champagne-kissed effect. The product in question is Armani’s Fluid Sheer Glow Enhancer in the color Champagne Gold.

  • For Their Next Trick, Matte Liquid Lipsticks Will Have the Comeback of the Year

For Their Next Trick, Matte Liquid Lipsticks Will Have the Comeback of the Year

    [ad_1]

Raise your hand if you remember the Kylie Lip Kit craze of 2016. Everyone was trying to get their hands on the latest launch—it was a cultural phenomenon. The Kylie Lip Kit craze also jump-started something else: a major obsession with matte liquid lipsticks.

For the better part of 2016, gloss seemed practically outlawed. Liquid lipstick was the moment, and the more matte the better. The problem with the liquid lipstick formulas then mostly had to do with the formulas. Matte liquid lipsticks of yesteryear were often drying, flaky, and even chalky.

Now, matte liquid lipsticks are having something of a renaissance. Don’t worry. They’re not like the formulas we used to cake on. This year, matte liquid lipsticks are being made in ways we’ve never seen before. Think comfortable, non-drying formulas that don’t flake off or look too matte—just the perfect amount. Keep reading for our favorite launches this year.

  • How to Apply Liquid Liner Like a Makeup Artist (Yes, It’s Easier Than You Think)

How to Apply Liquid Liner Like a Makeup Artist (Yes, It’s Easier Than You Think)

    [ad_1]

One of the best things makeup beginners can do to level up their makeup skills is to simplify their method of application. A flawless freehanded wing comes with time and experience. If you ask any makeup artist or editor, one of the biggest tips you’ll here is to forget the wrist. Use your pinky for stabilization and let your applicator glide smoothly and steadily across the skin to avoid shaky application or rogue pen marks. If you’ve ever had the experience of attempting literally anything in a time crunch, then you know how complicated simple tasks can feel.

Approach applying liquid eyeliner the same way and make it as easy as possible for yourself. If you make a mistake, no worries! Have some makeup remover on hand and try again. Making mistakes will always be part of the process of learning something new, so why should using liquid eyeliner be any different? If you can’t get that perfect flick on the end of your wing, simply dip a flat makeup brush into some oil-based makeup remover and gently remove your little oops.

Alternately, if you have on a full face and are worried about completely decimating your base makeup, try camouflaging your mistake with concealer for a quick and painless clean-up. It will save you from having to remove all your makeup and start from scratch. If you’re struggling to get the brush saturated with ink, consider storing your eyeliner with the brush facing downward.

Makeup Artists (Who Try Everything) Say These 17 Lipsticks Truly Last All Day

    [ad_1]

Matte formulas are typically most helpful when you’re looking for something long-wearing, but the key is to make sure that you find a formula that’s both hydrating and matte. There are so many great formulas out there now that are designed to be comfortable and moisturizing throughout the day (almost like a chapstick) and still dry down to that matte finish so it won’t smear, smudge, or get on your teeth throughout the day.

Formulas with a high pigment payoff are also ideal for all day wear. To allow for the least amount of touch-ups, you’ll want something super saturated that can withstand eating, drinking, and other daily activities. Overall, I’ve found liquid formulas are usually best when it comes to longevity, but there are a few formulas that are the exception too. Scroll down for all our favorites!

In the realm of designer makeup brands, there’s one you’ll find time and time again in celebrity makeup artists’ kits: Armani Beauty. Of course, Armani makeup products are normally pretty spendy ($45 for a lipstick is nothing to sneeze at). 2 Makeup Artists Just Told Me Their Trade Secrets for Looking Glowy (Not Shiny)

    [ad_1]

“A healthy glowing Makeup is my favorite type of make up to do,” shares makeup artist and founder of Dominique Cosmetics, Christen Dominique. “Clean skin is important for makeup to apply smoothly. Before starting a glowy makeup look, Dominique recommends throughly cleansing the face and using a toner to ensure your skin’s cleanliness. “When you’re ready to apply makeup, take a hydrating yet tacky primer that works well for your skin type.” This ensures that any cream-based makeup products following primers will apply evenly, smoothly, and last all day.

Makeup artist and TikTok content creator Danielle Estrada also shared her secrets to pulling off the look. “I always start out with hydrated prepped skin before applying makeup. I love using a super hydrating moisturizer under makeup,” Estrada explains. “I then stick with mostly cream products vs powder to keep the skin glowing and still keeping the skin looking like skin.” To lock in the look, she opts for a minimal powder that will keep the glow followed by a cream or liquid-based highlighter.

Estrada finishes off any glowy making look with a few spritzes of hydrating setting spray to bring moisture to the face. “My number one tip is less is more! I like to apply minimal product and add layers! This makes it easier to apply the product and is more forgiving,” she says. Additionally, when applying highlighter, Estrada opts for a beauty-blender for that desirable skin-like finish.

If you’re wondering which products these two beauty queens use to create their signature glowy makeup looks, you’re in luck! Keep scrolling to see which products they’re using nonstop (plus the ones beauty editors swear by).

When it comes to lipsticks, I’ve tried just about every single one. I am a lipstick person through and through, and I have upwards of 100 tubes in my personal collection.

It’s no secret that some lipstick brands are better than others. If you’re wondering what sets a lipstick brand apart from the rest, it comes down to a few different factors. A lipstick truly deserves a place in your makeup drawer if it’s long-wearing and highly pigmented and has a formula that doesn’t smear or flake. Not only that, but just like every other makeup product, the shade range is important. Lipstick brands should offer inclusive shade ranges that work across all skin tones.

Eye Shadow Was Always the Most Intimidating Part of My Makeup Routine—Until Now

    [ad_1]

Welcome to Internet Famous, a monthly series in which we ask our Instagram followers to vote on a viral beauty product that’s taken social media by storm. Then the beauty team will take the winning pick for a spin and share their reviews—pictures included.

I can count the number of times I’ve worn eye shadow in 2023 on one hand. I typically reserve that part of my beauty drawer for the rare occasions when I want to show up in full glam (e.g. concerts, birthday parties, and work events). There’s just something so intimidating about blending multiple colors with a brush. While my eye shadow palettes are collecting dust in the back of my drawer, I’m still achieving that eye shadow look with blush. I’m a huge proponent of dragging my leftover blush onto my lids after blending the product into my cheeks. It’s been my low-effort cheat code for the past year, but in an effort to avoid creasing and oily lids, I’m listening to the masses and giving the widely loved Dior Backstage Eyeshadow Palette ($52) a try. Luckily, I’m not alone on this journey. My co-workers have seen the stunning looks created with this palette in real life and online, so they’re giving their eye shadow sticks a break and going back to the OG formula.

I can’t look someone in the eye and honestly say I’m a beauty minimalist when I sometimes use upwards of eight skincare products at one time. There Are Hundreds of Labor Day Beauty Sales—These Are The Only 25 I’m Shopping

    [ad_1]

Black Friday sales get all the hype, but I’m here to set the record straight and say Labor Day sales deserve more credit. Not only are the discounts just as good, but the actual online shopping experience is better. It’s more low-key, which makes it less stressful. Think about it: Since Labor Day sales get less attention, there’s less of a chance that my favorite products will sell out before I can add them to my cart…I don’t know about you, but that immediately lowers my cortisol levels.

This Labor Day Weekend, I’m getting in on the sale-shopping fun and setting aside some time to go online and exercise my credit card. After all, as far as I’m concerned, there’s no better time to revamp my routine than right before fall.
