  • What Does ‘APT’ Mean? How Rosé Convinced Bruno Mars to Help Write an ‘Unserious’ Song About a Korean Drinking Game

Just meet me at the… We can’t get Rosé and Bruno Mars‘s song “APT” out of our heads. With it’s catchy hook and clever writing, the song has reached every corner on the earth and for good reason.

The song, released October 24, 2024, instantly climbed the charts with 2 billion streams on Spotify, and spending 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3. Now it’s up for three nominations at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

    What does APT mean?

APT has two meanings in this song: a literal apartment and the classic Korean drinking game (아파트 or Apateu). The drinking game involves a group of three or more people and after everyone shouts apateu four times, a player calls out a number. The players then stack hands on top of each other in random order (think like an apartment building) and they start counting as the person’s hands on the bottom moves to the top. The person whose hand lands on top of the stack last when the number that was chosen is reached, has to take a shot. If you need a visual, Rosé’s got you covered.

Rosé revealed how the song was conceptualized to CBS Mornings. “I was in the studio and here’s me just teaching everyone my culture. “This is what brings us fun in Korea.” Korea has a really lively culture where people love to get together and share a drink. We talk, we cry, and we share games. Their eyes were like, ‘What is this chant?’ It was bringing us together.”

The BLACKPINK member also explained to Vogue that she wasn’t convinced about the song until every person on her team said that they were “obsessed.” “I remember going home kind of freaked out. I was like, ‘Is this OK that I’ve written a song about a drinking game? Is this too unserious?’ And so I got all of the producers and songwriters to delete the song off of their phones.”

Rosé and Bruno Mars immediately clicked over the song over the fun premise. “I was like, ‘It’s about drinking? You got me,’ ” Mars told Billboard. “But truthfully, it was Rosie’s voice, it was her saying this hook that just had this magic to it. And after talking to her it became, ‘Let’s build on this, let’s figure this puzzle out.’ That’s what all these songs are, right? And I thought it was beautiful that it was from her culture; she didn’t just send me a pop song talking about love or whatever. She really put me on game.”

We’re as syoer obssessed with the song, so take a look at the lyrics below

  • Taylor Swift Fans Hit Back At MIND-BOGGLINGLY Bad Faith The Life Of A Showgirl Takes! – Perez Hilton

    It has been A WEEK!

Just seven days after the midnight release of Taylor Swift‘s twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl has inexplicably become her most controversial. But are the lyrics really that offensive? Or is it the listeners who got… weird?

Look, we’re not talking about the intentional spicy lines, like Actually Romantic seemingly igniting a feud with Charli XCX, letting everyone know she might have her more controversial friends’ backs on CANCELLED!, or getting dirtier than she’s ever gotten singing about Travis Kelce‘s Wood. All that we expected. No, these are takes we could never have anticipated because, well… frankly they’re such leaps in logic they defy reason!

    Tradwife Propaganda

Listeners are interpreting her desire to get married and have children as… conservative tradwife propaganda. Um… WHAT?!?

Y’all. The patriarchal tradwife thing is not about wanting a husband and kids. It’s actually the opposite! That’s about women being forced into the position of being a full-time wife and baby factory — because they’re seen as the property of men. Taylor saying she wants that stuff for herself is making a choice.

Related: Taylor ‘Braced’ For ‘Drama’ As She Picks Bridesmaids For Travis Kelce Wedding!

    As this fan succinctly explains:

“The whole point of feminism is that we want women to do whatever they want to do.”

    @mariaisalright

genuinely the craziest take I’ve heard, go touch grass. #lifeofashowgirl #motherhood #marriage

    ♬ original sound – mariagabriela

Taylor isn’t being anti-feminist here. She’s just telling everyone what she wants. Which we should all be fine with. LOVE IS LOVE, remember that? It works the other way, too!

Also, let’s not forget, even if Tay retired right now she’d remain one of the most successful humans in their chosen field OF ALL TIME. That’s not what a tradwife is. Tradwives are basically teenagers drafted into marriage like chattel. Taylor looks great, but let’s not forget she’s 35 years old! And richer than her husband-to-be by A LOT. This ain’t that.

Oh, and Tay herself said she’s NOT retiring just because she got married. And in fact she finds that assumption “shockingly offensive” by the way.

Also from WI$H LI$T? Some “fans” somehow pulled the idea Taylor wants to propagate the white race like she’s Elon Musk. Why? Because she sang about wanting to:

“Have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you”

See, Trav is a white man, so she clearly is saying she only wants everyone on the block to be white. And voila, the song about not being into modern materialistic desires is actually… promoting eugenics.

    Yeah. It’s all too real.

You can see a lot more about that theory and the Swifties blasting it HERE. (Oh, and also take a listen to Kylie Kelce hilariously explaining why that’s much funnier if you know the Kelces and their frustratingly dominant genes.)

Also, here’s a response we really love from Saints tight end Juwan Johnson and his wife Chanen

    @juandchan

    And nothing like me???????? #juandchan

    ♬ original sound – songlyricss87

So. Cute. Too bad Juwan is clearly a white supremacist, right? Y’all see how ridiculous you sound now??

    Homophobia

In her track Actually Romantic, Tay takes a new tactic on the diss track. She likens someone’s nonstop, compulsive hatred of her to, well… a romantic obsession. She’s basically saying that Charli XCX — or whoever it’s about, more than one person in all likelihood — talking about her all the time doesn’t feel dangerous, it’s harmless. It’s even flattering, like a crush.

But there’s a contingent who are just champing at the bit to call out Taylor for being homophobic, so they say it’s gay panic. They figure since she’s a woman and Charli is a woman, she’s basically calling someone gay as an insult…

Forget the fact Taylor loves the LGBTQ community, was the first pop star to cast a trans actor as a love interest in a music video, and has been vocal politically mostly about this topic.

She doesn’t speak about politics much, but she did tweet in 2021 that she had her “Fingers crossed and praying that the Senate will see trans and lgbtq rights as basic human rights.” In 2018, she also spoke out against the anti-LGBT legislation of Tennessee congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, saying:

“I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love.”

You can listen to what she’s explicitly saying about the matter… or you can infer that she secretly means whatever makes her look the worst. One of those choices respects her and gives her agency.

    Racism & Misogynoir

Oof, OK, this is a big one.

There’s a theory that Taylor is not only racist but specifically obsessed with Black women — as it relates to the men she dates. Travis Kelce’s most recent longterm relationship before her was with a woman named Kayla Nicole — and critics are pairing that with some lyrics and doing a hop, skip, and a jump to… misogynoir, the hatred of Black women.

    (c) MEGA/WENN/Kayla Nicole/Instagram

The pop delight Opalite is pretty clearly about Tay’s new romance with Trav. She sings about why this is relationship feels so right in comparison with past ones. That means, yes, a bit of a swipe at Kayla. Tay sings:

“You couldn’t understand it / Why you felt alone / You were in it for real / She was in her phone / And you were just a pose”

Folks have taken this to be about Kayla not just because she was Trav’s most recent ex but also because of resurfaced video of the NFL star and his then-WAG living this exact scenario.

That’s nothing wrong with a songwriter singing about their own relationship, and this is all personal stuff. We just know it because Taylor is the most scrutinized woman alive! But again, nothing about race at all.

However, at the same time, the whole song uses the metaphor of opalite, a bright, glittery man-made gemstone, to represent happiness, while the black mineral onyx is used to represent difficult times. People are interpreting this to say dating Black women was what made Trav upset, now he’s with her and all is white in the world. It is SUCH a stretch.

Darkness, night, stormy weather, all classic representations of sadness — ones which Tay also uses in the song. And sunshine and light represent safety, rescue, and hope. Why? Well, they pretty much always have throughout human history. Probably something to do with early man getting lost to predators and accidents in the scary dark, and being safer when it was brighter and everyone could see? In any case, it’s like all of culture, thousands of poems, songs, plays, films…

But when Taylor does it it’s a sign she’s been secretly racist all this time?? Come on, now! Really??

We’ll let some folks explain who have a little more expertise…

    @brookeg28

    Breaking news: words mean things. #taylorswift #swifttok #tloas #swiftie

♬ original sound – Brooke Giles

But seriously, Taylor has ALWAYS, quite consistently been against racism. She had the courage to blast the President of the United States for “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism.” And she’s been reaping his wrath ever since.

And when white nationalists tried to embrace her as an “Aryan goddess” in 2019, she did what Trump was never willing to do when they embraced him — she very clearly and explicitly denounced them, telling The Guardian:

“There’s literally nothing worse than white supremacy. It’s repulsive. There should be no place for it.”

You can listen to what she says when she’s not being poetic, making her feelings on the matter clear! Or… You can listen to a song about finding happiness, in which she sings:

“You were dancing through the lightning strikes / Sleepless in the onyx night / But now the sky is opalite”

And assume her secret intention is to take down Black women. Sigh.

    Not Political Enough??

In addition to those who think the whole album is a MAGA dog whistle, there are others complaining about Taylor not getting political. For real! We’ve seen tons of posts where people are saying Tay isn’t speaking to the political moment.

And this isn’t just TikTokers either, we’ve seen actual music critics write whole think pieces about this!

We mean, at least it’s accurate? This album isn’t political. But Tay has never really made political music. It’s mostly been about her relationships, her feelings, what it’s like for a girl going through big life moments… It’s all really personal stuff. Interpretations of politics just aren’t her thing.

There are plenty of folk and classic rock and punk bands to go to for that sort of thing. Like, if Green Day put out Dookie II right now? And completely ignored the rise of fascism? After American Idiot? We could see their fans being pretty disappointed in them. But this feels like ordering pizza and complaining there isn’t enough standup comedy on it.

It’s OK to make something fun and cheerful if that’s your gift! And we’ll let this Swiftie give everyone an excellent explanation WHY!

    The WILDEST Takes

Stuff gets crazier. The worst faith takes are actually saying Tay’s album is somehow celebrating the genocide in Gaza… Or that Taylor comparing a hater to “a toy Chihuahua barking at me from a tiny purse” is racist against… can you guess? Asians! Yes, because apparently Chihuahua is a “slur to Asian or half Asian people” — ignoring the context that it’s a well-known dog breed, and she’s explicitly using the term in the context of the dog breed.

But one of the most insulting? We’ve seen multiple hot takes from critics saying Taylor was about to become transphobic. Not that she’s currently transphobic, not that there’s any evidence of that at all. No, they’re going full Minority Report and saying they just feel in their gut that she’s going to go full JK Rowling any second.

What’s the most epically far-reaching take YOU’VE seen about The Life of a Showgirl??

  • Are Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo Still Holding a Grudge?

    Remember when?
    Photo: @oliviarodrigo via Instagram

The obvious drama on Taylor Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl is “Actually Romantic,” the alleged response track to Charli XCX’s “Sympathy is a Knife.” While the petty lyrics are aimed at a certain someone who calls Taylor “Boring Barbie,” the song sounds directly from Olivia Rodrigo’s guts. Wait, is that feud still a thing? Swift digs deeper on “Father Figure,” a song that posthumously doles out writing credits to George Michael, propping herself up as inspiration and guidance to “a younger version of me.” “I saw potential,” she sings on the outro.

When Olivia Rodrigo emerged from her Disney+ cocoon with “drivers license,” her identity as a devout Swiftie was well documented. She caught the attention of Swift, they mutually posted loving photos together when they finally met at the BRIT Awards, and Rodrigo quickly became a meaningful part of the first “Taylor’s Version” rollout. Rodrigo even intentionally interpolated the piano chords of “New Year’s Day” on her Sour track “1 step forward, 2 steps back.” But her open affection eventually cost her millions in royalties after she gave Swift a retroactive credit on Rodrigo’s hit “Deja Vu” for interpolating the bridge of “Cruel Summer.” Ever since, fans have speculated about a falling out between the two pop stars. Drake and Kendrick, step aside, because breadcrumbs about the rift have seemingly been spread throughout the pop stars’ songs ever since. Below, every lyric that could lead back to the bad blood between the diaristic songwriters. Who’s afraid of this little old beef? You should be.

Olivia Rodrigo has claimed she was “very surprised” when fans interpreted lyrics from her sophomore album’s debut single as digs at Taylor Swift. Years later, I’m even less convinced by that. The first possible dig at Swift comes almost immediately: “How’s the castle built off people you pretend to care about?” The vision of Taylor, high up in a castle protecting her kingdom, comes up regularly in the fight. Swift has built a… reputation… as a maternal figure fighting for younger artists’ rights, but if we are to believe the rumors about the feud, is it all pretend?

Rodrigo sings, “Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise. I loved you truly.” Yes, this could be her situationship with disgrace-to-my-first-name Zack Bia. But given “drivers license” was released in January 2021, and the songwriting credit was officially doled out to Swift and her “Cruel Summer” co-writers in July that year, could these six months be the brief period in which Taylor took Olivia under her wing?

As with everything Taylor, it always comes back to the money. Olivia sings, “The way you sold me for parts,” and “Bleedin’ me dry like a goddamn vampire.” While Taylor would never “fame fuck” Olivia (I’ll leave another sect of fans to discuss that), these lyrics may point to the financial stakes of Taylor’s team demanding credit for the interpolation on “Deja Vu.”

Finally, the lyrics “And every girl I ever talked to told me you were bad, bad news / You called them crazy, god, I hate the way I called them crazy too,” don’t immediately seem like Taylor call-outs remembering the mentors who have filled the private-jet-sized vacancy left by Swift in Olivia’s life, they could be. Think Katy Perry and Alanis Morissette, who she agreed with about the “bullying and a lot of jealousy” coming from former idols who ended up “being mean girls.”

If “the grudge” just sounds like a breakup song to you, it should. Being betrayed by a boy is a slap in the face; being betrayed by your hero is a true gut punch. Nestled in that six months of torture, Rodrigo opens with, “I have nightmares each week about that Friday in May, one phone call from you and my entire world was changed.” Sour was released Friday, May 21, 2021. It’s safe to guess that upon hearing her influence on the album, Taylor reached out to Olivia on the day of its release to start the conversation about royalties. (Even if she needed a week to let her vampiric teeth sink in, Friday, May 28, 2021 is on the table, too.)

Rodrigo sings, “You took everything I loved and crushed it in between your fingers.” Everything is Taylor Nation, naturally. She admits, “I say I don’t care, I say that I’m fine… but you know I can’t let it go, I’ve tried, I’ve tried, I’ve tried for so long.” Olivia’s lifelong “undyin’ love” for Taylor now haunts her. Taylor Swift was everywhere in 2023 (and still is). It makes perfect sense why she’d “hear your voice every time that I think I’m not enough.”

Since Sour’s release, Olivia has tried her best to act cool when asked about Taylor Swift, notably saying she was “too busy” to attend the never-ending Eras Tour, but then she sings, “I say I don’t care, I say that I’m fine.” .

In one of the song’s most damning lines, “And we both drew blood, but, man, those cuts were never equal,” she reintroduces the (bad) blood motif from “Vampire,” tying the songs together thematically. She  even appears to address the “cuts” of the profits that Taylor received from Sour. “Do you think I deserved it all? Ooh, your flower’s filled with vitriol,” paints a vivid picture of Taylor, vindicated in teaching Olivia a lesson she deserved to learn, possibly sending make-up flowers to prove her point. In the aftermath of “drivers license,” it seemed Taylor was thrilled to have a protege? All signs on social media pointed to a fruitful mother-daughter partnership (Taylor commented “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud” on Olivia’s post about being two spots below her idol on the iTunes charts.), but instead Olivia cries, “You built me up to watch me fall.”

In the climax of the song, Olivia belts, “You have everything, and you still want more.” Taylor is a billionaire. She does “have everything.” But for some reason, she needed a songwriting credit from a similar-sounding bridge on a 17-year-old’s debut album.

Possibly the most intentionally scary she’s ever written (with recent addition “CANCELLED!” as a close second), this searing rant could be about any number of beefs Taylor Swift engages in. “The scandal was contained. The bullet had just grazed. At all costs, keep your good name,” she sings.

In my vision of Taylor’s Female Rage: the Musical, she wrote this song immediately after hearing “The Grudge.” She whispers, “So tell me everything is not about me. But what if it is?” – stunned that someone would write a diss track about her. The first substantial clue that the song could be about Olivia comes from the lyrics “So all you kids can sneak into my house, with all the cobwebs.”  There are plenty of breakup songs on The Tortured Poets Department – and Taylor has a long list of revenge songs about Scooter Braun and the music exec who sold her masters, Scott Borchetta – but no one’s calling them “kids.”

The most obvious lyrics — “That I’ll sue you if you step on my lawn,”– reference the legal back and forth that happened when Rodrigo metaphorically stepped on Swift’s lawn by borrowing her chorus structure.

“Put narcotics into all of my songs. And that’s why you’re still singing along,” seems to directly reference “The Grudge,” when Olivia sings, “Even after all this, you’re still everything to me.” Taylor knows that even after all this battle, Olivia still loves her idol’s music – taunting her with her complicated devotion.

The latest entry in this canon of beef is “Father Figure” from The Life of a Showgirl. Could the central interpolation of George Michael’s 1987 year hit meant to drag Olivia for the songwriting credit that started the feud? She paints a picture of taking a younger, poorer artist to the Chateau (no, not Audrey Hobert), singing, “You remind me of a younger me. I saw potential…” This twists the closing lines  on The Tortured Poets Department: “You look like Taylor Swift in this light. We’re loving it. You’ve got edge; she never did. The future’s bright, dazzling” from “Clara Bow.”

In the second-most cringe-inducing “dick” mention on TLOAS, Taylor brags, “I can make deals with the devil. Because my dick’s bigger.” She’s puffing her chest with business acumen. “This love is pure profit, just step into my office,” she sings.“I dry your tears with my sleeve.” These lyrics make more sense remembering that the initial feud happened as Taylor was deep in her fight with Shamrock Capital, the owners of her original masters. She sneers, “Said, ‘They want to see you now. They don’t want you to reign.’ I showed you all the tricks of the trade.” Olivia herself once noted she was inspired by Taylor’s tricks of the trade when she signed her record deal and maintained control of her masters from the start. So when Taylor vows, “I protect the family. Leave it with me,” is she implying that if Olivia had left the “Deja Vu” songwriting credits with her, she’d be protected by Taylor Nation?

“Your thoughtless ambition sparked that ignition of foolish decisions, which led to misguided visions,” could reference Olivia’s ambition to echo Taylor’s writing on “Deja Vu,” but she “foolishly” didn’t offer credit at first. “Then to fulfill your dreams, you had to get rid of me.” Once the feud dissipated, Olivia stopped mentioning Taylor Swift entirely.

“You want a fight you found it. I got the place surrounded.” isn’t a direct reference, but four years after the initial songwriting-credit fallout, Taylor has befriended pop girls who allegedly appear in Rodrigo’s songs: Sabrina Carpenter and Gracie Abrams.

In one of the more haunting deliveries in Taylor’s discography, “All I ask for is your loyalty. My dear protege,” she clearly draws a line between herself and her younger-me. But the bridge throws in a possible red herring: “I saw a change in you, my dear boy.” Is the song actually about Troye Sivan, her once-opener who has since gone distinctly team XCX? Or could she be shading another former devout Swiftie – Olivia Rodrigo’s best friend Conan Gray, who helped promote early snippets of Fearless (Taylor’s Version). “They don’t make loyalty like they used to,” clearly, because Conan Gray famously didn’t listen to Midnights for months after its release. Maybe the song is about all of the attached-at-the-hip former Swifties.

Of course, we have to start with ‘Season Of The Witch.’ There’s no better Lana song that embraces the witchy season! We’re big Halloween fans over here and are always looking for an excuse to begin celebrating the season a little early, even if it is still only August.

“You’re in the yard, I light the fire. And as the summer fades away, nothing gold can stay”

This lyric from ‘Venice B*tch” is the perfect way to close out summer. We’ve been loving every moment of summer this year, but “nothing gold can stay” and we’re ready for some colder weather where we can bundle up by the fireplace!

“I catch a dollar in the wind and I buy a cup of coffee”

This lyric from an unreleased deep cut, ‘Fordham Road,’ encapsulates autumn so well. On the first day of September, you can find us sipping a pumpkin spice latte with a scarf wrapped around our necks, and the wind breezing through our hair. We just know Lana Del Rey is also a PSL girlie!

Sometimes I wake up in the morning to red, blue, and yellow skies”

Red, blue, and yellow skies are preparing us for fall! ‘God Knows I Tried’ is one of our favorite Lana Del Rey songs and is definitely a contender for our autumn playlists. Our favorite sunrises and sunsets always happen during the autumn months, and we are so looking forward to these special moments with Lana’s music blasting in the background.

“Everything is bright now, no more cloudy days, even when the storms come, in the eye we’ll stay”

This lyric from ‘Religion’ takes us away from the beating sunshine and into the cloudy, stormy days of fall. Sometimes we love a cloudy day paired with a cool breeze and a warm drink in hand – there’s truly nothing more nostalgic!

“Those summer nights seem long ago, and so is the girl you used to call. The queen of New York City”

We have to end with these lyrics from ‘Old Money.’ Summer nights are indeed taking a back seat to our beloved fall afternoons. Even in New York City, we’re anticipating the changing of the leaves and the impending sweater weather!

  • 5 Mark Ambor Lyrics You Need To Scream At The Rockwood Tour

5 Mark Ambor Lyrics You Need To Scream At The Rockwood Tour

If you haven’t heard of Mark Ambor yet, brace yourself because we know the whole world will buzz about him sooner rather than later! Hailing from small-town New York, Mark has nailed his own refreshing brand of alt-pop guaranteed to pull at your heartstrings and get you on your feet. His singles and EPs so far have racked up hundreds of millions of streams, and we can’t wait to hear his debut Rockwood album, which he wrote and produced in his childhood home. Make sure you pre-save it and give it a listen on August 16th!

But that’s not all we have to look forward to! Starting in October, Mark is heading out on his worldwide Rockwood Tour, trekking across the U.S. and Europe through the spring. We already know these shows will be full of life and make amazing memories. To celebrate Mark’s success and get you excited for the Rockwood Tour, we’re choosing five lyrics you’ll need to yell at the top of your lungs if you get tickets! And Mark, feel free to take notes on this while you’re preparing the setlist.

“You and me belong together like cold iced tea and warmer weather…”

‘Belong Together’ is, simply put, one of the cutest love songs we’ve ever heard, and there are so many lyrics we debated putting here. But we ultimately decided on this one because it really speaks to the bond between two people who love each other… much like the bond you notice between a performer and a passionate crowd at a concert. How fun would it be to sing about warmer weather at the European shows or daydream about summer at the colder U.S. stops?

“I’ll be singing to the lights of a crowded sold-out room…”

First step: we need our fellow Mark fans to sell out as many of the Rockwood Tour shows as possible. Second step: yell this line from ‘I Hope It All Works Out’ back at him as loudly as possible! The song beautifully explores heartbreak and nostalgia, while this line looks forward to a future where Mark gets to pursue his dreams and find excitement in his life even if the relationship didn’t work out how he hoped.

“We might be lost, but we’ll find our way…”

Being in the right fandom can really feel like a found family, and we hope all Mark Ambor lovers get that comforting feeling around fellow fans! It’d be so special to sing this lyric from ‘Our Way’ with an audience as passionate about Mark’s music as you are. And can you imagine how powerful it would be to hear an entire crowd echoing this hopeful line? We have chills just thinking about it.

“Damn it, it’s so good to be alive!”

This lyric appears in ‘Belong Together’ and ‘Good To Be,’ so there’s a bit of a double whammy here! And yes, you should scream it both times if both songs make it onto Mark’s setlist. Concerts are one of the most thrilling things any music lover can experience, so singing along with this lyric will make you appreciate the present moment. It’d also be an adorable Instagram caption for your post-show photo dump!

“All the ways that I’ve held on to every single moment, all the promises you’ve broken…”

We got a little preview of Mark’s Rockwood track ‘Academy Street,’ with a title paying homage to his hometown, on a TikTok Live, and this line has lived in our heads rent-free since then. When you look back on a relationship, you probably see a mosaic of the good and bad times in your head: romanticizing the happy memories and still reeling a bit at the sad ones. This lyric will be so cathartic to sing along to for anyone who’s had their heart broken, along with the rest of the impactful bridge!

Which of these lyrics is your favorite? Is there a certain song you’re hoping to hear live on the Rockwood Tour? Be sure to grab your tickets, then tell us your thoughts in the comments below, or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Our Favorite Lyrics From Capstan’s New Album, The Mosaic

Our Favorite Lyrics From Capstan’s New Album, The Mosaic

If there’s one thing about us at The Honey POP, it’s that we stan Capstan. They dropped the first single, ‘Bête Noire,’ in October of last year. Since then, they’ve followed with six more bangers, the most recent being ‘What You Want’ featuring Oliver Baxxter of Broadside. If you didn’t know, the band also self-produced, engineered, and recorded their new album, which makes it even more impressive. The Mosaic‘s 18 tracks truly showcase Capstan’s talent and versatility while remaining cohesive and staying true to the album’s theme of the complexities of life — making it a strong contender for AOTY. With that being said, here are our favorite lyrics from The Mosaic.

    ‘I. Revolve’

“Collecting dust inside an old empty shell
Will better days still know me? Absent of the hurting
    Cast my gaze inside me”

    ‘Final Words’

“Every night reciting these words of grief
Though time has altered their meaning
Let it resonate with anyone who feels the same I can’t revel on,
I have to turn the page”

    ‘Undertow’

Focused on my failures (hidden deep)
Hammering the nails (wanna break free)
Craft my own casket with miseries past
When can I break free? Be who you see in me

    ‘An Open Letter’

“I was a storm when I was younger and if I lost you in the flood,
I hope this apology serves as enough”

    ‘Hailey’

I was wrong to embrace the idea that I can’t ever change
    As we grow, everyday
You’re the true north, still guiding my way

    ‘II. Revise’

So I’ll love on, cherish this glow
Find a place to grow, start to let it go
Restitch my tapestry, erase the misery scene

    ‘Dwell’

    I hear the memories echoing
If they could hear me I’d be whispering
Stay present in every second, each moment
Soon you’d give it all to do it all over

    ‘Moloch’

“See yourself as a hero? Ignoring all the failures
of your ideology to protect the ones who’re most desperate”

    ‘What Can I Say?’

“You broke the cage, the one that held me for so long
And kept me writing heartbreak songs
You brought my heart a joy I can’t convey

    ‘III. The Mosaic’

…hate only stems from the loss of the only thing we ever really need at all,
our glimpse of each other so very small,
a monocolored fragment of an endless vibrant sprawl.

Capstan told us in our exclusive interview with them that it’s their favorite lyric from the album, and we absolutely have to agree. Yes, it’s 10 minutes and 3 seconds. But this song has so much beauty, and it’s the best way to end an album. You have to listen to the entire song.

So, what do you think of Capstan’s new album, The Mosaic? And what are your favorite lyrics? Let us know in the comments, on FacebookInstagram, or by tweeting us @thehoneypop!

  • How to get your lyrics on Spotify, Instagram, Google, and more – ReverbNation Blog

How to get your lyrics on Spotify, Instagram, Google, and more – ReverbNation Blog

Want to get your lyrics on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, or TIDAL?

Would you like your song lyrics to appear at the top of Google results?

Looking to create engaging content on Instagram that automatically displays your words in-time with the music

One simple process achieves all three objectives. Today I’ll show you how!

    A musician’s guide to Musixmatch

Here’s how to get your lyrics delivered to streaming and social platforms so the words are synchronized to the music:

    1. Distribute your music

Before you can synch your lyrics with a track on Spotify or Instagram, you need to make that music available on those same social and streaming platforms!

With ReverbNation, you can release your music worldwide to every platform that matters.

    2. Get verified with Musixmatch

Musixmatch can get your lyrics onto Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google, TIDAL, Instagram, Facebook, and more.

It’s an app where you enter, format, sync, approve, and deliver your lyrics, along with collaborator credits and song formatting tags.

But first you need to get verified with Musixmatch.

NOTE: You may need to upload a photo of a valid ID before you can submit lyrics.

    3. Choose the song

Once you have access to your Musixmatch dashboard, go to your “Roster” of songs.

You may immediately see songs in your “To Do” list that are missing lyrics. Otherwise, hit the “Music” tab.

Select the song and hit “Edit Lyrics.”

    4. Enter the lyrics

You can paste the lyrics into the lyric field.

Or listen along to the song and transcribe the lyrics in real-time

For convenience, a player below the lyrics field will source audio from Spotify or Apple Music.

    5. Format the lyrics

After typing or pasting the lyrics, be sure to follow Musixmatch’s formatting guidelines.

For instance: Every line should begin with a capital letter.

If your entry doesn’t meet the formatting guidelines, you’ll see a helpful window with suggestions.

A virtual assistant can automatically fix these errors.

    6. Add section tags

This is where you’ll categorize stanzas as verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, etc.

If you have a longer instrumental section or solo between sections, you can mark that as #INSTRUMENTAL.

    7. Sync the words to the music

The Musixmatch app makes it easy for you to toggle through the lyrics while the track plays.

This process time-stamps the lyrics so they’ll automatically sync when someone streams the track on Spotify. Or when someone creates an Instagram Reel using your song.

    8. List credits

Who wrote the words and music?

Did someone else mix, master, and produce the track? Were there session players?

You can credit everyone accordingly during this step.

    9. Submit the lyrics

Hit the “Send” button when you’re ready.

Then Musixmatch will deliver the words to their affiliated platforms.

If there are any issues, you’ll see a warning appear and have a chance to fix it.

    10. Share your lyrics!

    Now the fun part.

It’s time to post creative content that showcases your words on Instagram and Facebook.

    Conclusion

One of the happy outcomes of the Social-Video Age is that people are accustomed to seeing captions now. They expect text on-screen. And they’re willing to READ IT to dive deeper into the content.

And guess what? That means people will engage with your lyrics. Great news for songwriters who want their social content to be an extension of their artistry!

Thanks to Musixmatch, getting your lyrics synched-up with your tracks on major social and streaming platforms is easy. This is a process you should revisit every time you launch new music, and it’ll take you barely more time than it takes to listen to the song.

Release your songs on Spotify, Instagram, and more.

ReverbNation is the best-kept secret in music distribution.

With real support. Industry access. And you keep 100% of your royalties.

  • Gypsy Rose Thinks Taylor Swift Wrote This Song About HER! – Perez Hilton

Gypsy Rose Thinks Taylor Swift Wrote This Song About HER! – Perez Hilton

Is Gypsy Rose Blanchard totally delusional? Or is she onto something??

The convicted murderer has become an unexpected celeb after being released from prison, getting invited onto talk shows and even hearing some shoutouts from celebs. But did she get the ultimate A-lister nod from Taylor Swift?!

According to sources close to Gypsy spilling to TMZ, girl believes Tay wrote a whole ass song about her! Yes, for real!

Apparently the huge Swiftie heard Fresh Out The Slammer on The Tortured Poets Department last month and freaked the eff out — because she was dead certain the track was all about her!

What’s her evidence? Well, first off she obviously is obviously “fresh out the slammer,” having famously gotten paroled in December after seven years in the clink. And the song is literally about a girl being released from prison and rushing into the arms of her lover. And that’s what happened to her — as she went “runnin’ back home to” husband Ryan Anderson. Though that obviously didn’t work out too well in the end…

Photos: Gypsy Posts Shocking Then-And-Now Pics From Munchausen Abuse Days

Per sources, lines like “camera flashes, welcome bashes” really spoke directly to Gypsy. She’s had paparazzi taking snaps since she got out, her family threw a party for her.

Is it really so crazy? Gypsy’s case is incredibly famous. Surely Tay must have heard about it. It’s certainly possible she used it for inspiration!

However, the song is only literally about prison. Figuratively it doesn’t really match up with Gypsy’s story. See, in the context of the rest of the album, the prison in the song has been interpreted as a metaphor for a relationship in which Tay didn’t feel free to be herself. Fans think it’s about the years she spent with Joe Alwyn as he wanted to stay out of the spotlight, which made her feel caged. That theory is supported by the TTPD epilogue poem, which seems to position Joe as the prison and rebound guy Matty Healy as a “tidal wave” — and then her clumsy rescuer who turns out not to be worthy of her. She writes:

“Out of the slammer and into a tidal wave / How gallant to save the empress from her gilded tower / Swinging a sword he could barely lift. / But loneliness struck at that fateful hour / Low hanging fruit on his wine stained lips / He never even scratched the surface of me / None of them did.”

If the experiences Tay was writing about were her breakup with Joe and fling with Matty, all that happened a year ago. Seems likely the songstress wrote about it all before Gypsy even got out.

As for whether Taylor even knows about Gypsy’s fandom? If she does, she hasn’t mentioned it. The sources say Miz Swift hasn’t reached out to the ex-con in any way. And Gypsy isn’t surprised, considering the controversy surrounding her case. She understands why Tay wouldn’t want to risk tainting her image like that.

What do YOU think, Perezcious readers? How likely is it Taylor Swift wrote a song about Gypsy Rose??

  • Billie Eilish Wrote Her ‘Barbie’ Movie Song About Herself—What The Lyrics Mean

Billie Eilish Wrote Her ‘Barbie’ Movie Song About Herself—What The Lyrics Mean

A stark contrast from the rest of the Barbie soundtrack, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For” lyrics has us in our feelings. The “bad guy” singer released her single on July 13, 2023, and the somber piano track was produced by her brother FINNEAS.

Barbie The Album features tracks from an incredible lineup of artists including Fifty Fifty, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, PinkPantheress, Karol G, Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid LAROI, Tame Impala, HAIM and GAYLE. If that won’t get you excited for the blockbuster of the summer featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, then maybe the plethora of pink and merch that’s tied around the movie release.

Billie also self-directed the music video accompanying the song. In the video, she sits with her pristine blonde hair and reminisces over tiny costumes from her previous music videos. She also made a clothing line (!!!) with pink velour tracksuits for the movie.

“What was funny about this one was that it was this character that I really did relate to, but I didn’t even realize that I was relating so much. I was just like, “Wow, I feel such a strong connection to this, but I don’t know why.” When we were writing the song, we weren’t thinking about our own lives,” Billie told Variety. “Then a couple days later I was like, “Oh, this is me and my story.”  It was pretty jarring, to be honest. It felt like somebody else put a spell on me, and then I saw a couple days later what the outcome was.”

Finneas added: “We were making a song for the movie, and so I don’t think we had any fear, to that end. The more bespoke, the better. Billie and I went and saw the movie, and then wrote what we wrote the next day. This is all back in January of this year. And my girlfriend didn’t see the movie until the premiere in July. And she would hear me playing the song around the house over the next couple of months. (Eventually) I said, “You know, that’s actually a thing that happens in the movie, that she floats, and then one day she doesn’t float anymore and she falls down.” And my girlfriend was like, “Oh, really?” We got lucky that Greta put a great image in the movie, and we could use it.”

A moving song that well ties into Billie’s string of melancholic ballads, here’s the “What Was I Made For” lyrics and what they mean.

What does the “What I Was Made For” by Billie Eilish lyrics mean?

What does the “What I Was Made For” by Billie Eilish lyrics mean? In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Billie describe the process of writing the song. “We truly sat down and Finneas started playing piano, and… those first couple lyrics, “I used to float, now I just fall down,” just came right out…”I used to know, but I’m not sure now what I was made for.”

She continued, “The start of writing this song, the first day of writing, Finneas and I, especially me because it’s from my perspective, we were purely only thinking about Barbie. I did not think about myself once in the writing process.” She then went on to say was so focused on the movie. “I was purely inspired by this movie and this character and the way I thought she would feel, and wrote about that.”

Billie said it was one of the most incredible experiences of her life. “The next week I was playing it in the car all day and playing it for everybody. And I was like, “This is exactly how I feel. And I didn’t even mean to be saying it.” It was truly the trippiest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. I was like, oh, I absolutely was writing about myself, but I was thinking about myself from a third person. And I was thinking about myself objectively, which also made me feel really connected to her, me.”

She also talked about the way that the song came about under a collaboration with her brother, producer Mark Ronson, and Barbie movie director Greta Gerwig. I had heard of it when the internet heard of it like a year ago, and they were shooting and everyone was like, oh my God, it’s Margot Robbie and it’s Ryan Gosling, and it’s all this stuff. Anyway, Finneas goes at one point, Finneas is like, At 3:00 PM today, we’re going to call Greta and Mark.” And I’m like, “Cool.” No team, no anything else. That was it. And we got on a call with them. Greta explained to us the movie, and it was just the sweetest, most pure thing in the world. And of course, Finneas and I went into this honestly in a very selfish way of, we totally might not have anything to do with this movie, but I want to see it. Show me. I want to see it.’

Billie was stunned by the first couple of minutes she saw of the film when Gerwig invited her to an advanced screening. “A minute in, Finneas and I looked at each other like … Whoa, this is insane. She’d play a scene and she’d walk in front of us and she’d go, “So, in the next part, what I want it to be is I want it to really feel like this,” and she’d do her Greta Gerwig-ass thing and she’d come up and she’d show us her passion and tell us all,” Billie recalled.

“And she kept getting up and walking all the way down to the front of the theater to tell us about the next part and explain it. And she was just like, “It’s so scary to show anybody this. It’s like my baby.” She wanted to really explain it and give it all of the context that it needed… She was literally like, ‘I don’t care. Please just, if you’re inspired, make something. And if you’re not, that’s fine. It’s fine. It would be my dream.’

And that dream DID come true! Read the lyrics of “What I Was Made For” by Billie Eilish below.

“What I Was Made For” by Billie EIlish lyrics

Here are the “What I Was Made For” Billie Eilish lyrics via Genius.

    [Verse 1]
I used to float, now I just fall down
I used to know, but I’m not sure now
    What I was made for
    What was I made for?
Takin’ a drive, I was an ideal
Looked so alive, turns out, I’m not real
    Just something you paid for
    What was I made for?

    [Chorus]
    ‘Cause I, I
I don’t know how to feel
    But I wanna try
I don’t know how to feel
    But someday I might
    Someday I might

    [Post-Chorus]
    Mm, mm-mm, aah-ooh
    Mm-mm-mm, mm-mm, mm-mm

    [Verse 2]
When did it end? All the enjoyment
I’m sad again, don’t tell my boyfriend
It’s not what he’s made for
    What was I made for?

    [Chorus]
    ‘Cause I, ’cause I
I don’t know how to feel
    But I wanna try
I don’t know how to feel
    But someday I might
    Someday I might

    [Outro]
Think I forgot, how to be happy
Something I’m not, but something I can be
    Something I wait for
    Something I’m made for
    Something I’m made for

  • Wayne Brady gets into ‘minor’ fight with driver in Malibu who hit his car and tried to run

Wayne Brady gets into ‘minor’ fight with driver in Malibu who hit his car and tried to run

Wayne Brady got into a fight over the weekend in Malibu with a driver who hit his car and tried to run away, authorities said. The incident ended with the arrest of the other driver.

The “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” host was driving along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu near Las Flores Road and Duke’s restaurant around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when another car backed into Brady’s, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. said in a statement shared with The Times.

When Brady and the other driver pulled over to exchange information, the driver heard first responders’ sirens and ran away, the statement said. Brady attempted to stop the person, which led to “a minor physical altercation.”

The driver ran into a nearby neighborhood, where deputies arrested the individual on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run with damage to property, and battery, the statement said.

The department declined to release the person’s name, citing an ongoing investigation. Nobody required medical attention.

Representatives for Brady did not immediately respond to The Times’ requests for comment.

Brady most recently made headlines when he announced his pansexuality in an interview with People.

He said he was prompted to start discovering new parts of himself after the 2014 death of Robin Williams, along with his own battle with depression.

“I did all the therapy I could do,” he said. “I was treated for love addiction. It’s a part of my journey. I had to start examining why I was looking for myself and happiness in a slew of people.”

Brady has hosted TV shows including “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” and “Let’s Make a Deal” and was a frequent panelist on “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” for which he won a Primetime Emmy. He has also acted in “30 Rock” and “Chappelle’s Show.”

An accomplished stage actor, Brady also has starred in Broadway hits “Chicago,” “Rent” and “Hamilton.” He performed in a Hollywood Bowl revival of “Kinky Boots” in 2022 and next year will star as the titular character in the touring revival of “The Wiz.”

Did Shawn Mendes hint at Camila Cabello with ‘What The Hell Are We Dying For’ lyrics?

Mendes announced the release of the new song with the caption, “Started writing this song yesterday morning with my friends in upstate New York & finished it only a few hours ago.. felt important to me to share with you guys in real-time,” He teased the song a day before its release with its title written on a picture of the Manhattan skyline full of smoke amidst the growing Canadian wildfires. The musician has faced backlash for the same.

Netizens slammed Mendes for using the natural disaster that is affecting numerous people to promote his music. While the song directly refers to the wildfires with the lyrics “Smoke in the air, the city’s burnin’ down,” it also refers to his feelings for someone he loves and can’t stop thinking about. Fans are sure the song is about Cabello, especially because Mendes has previously accepted that all the love songs he has written have been about the 26-year-old Havana hitmaker.

What the Hell Are We Dying For? further says, “Locked in my mind, you’re all I think about / I wanna save us, but I don’t know how.” Mendes sings, “If we don’t love like we used to / If we don’t care like we used to / What the hell are we dying for?” The lyrics continue, “If it doesn’t cut like it used to / If you’re not mine and I’m not yours / What the hell are we dying for?” The song reveals how the Stitches hitmaker tries to let “her” go but then changes his mind.

“Livin’ without you / Is not livin’ at all,” the song concludes. The soon-to-be 25-year-old and Cabello dated for two years before splitting in November 2021. The two reconciled this year and were spotted kissing at the Coachella music festival in April. They have been spotted out and about as well as on dates ever since. Despite recent reports that claim they have broken up again, there seems to be no confirmation about the same. The much-loved couple have previously posted pictures of their time together and the fans have enjoyed every bit of it.

“I’ve learned a lot about love with this guy. It’s not just the happy blissful moments you see in pictures and videos. When you’re in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you,” a post from Cabello reads. “To be in love means to choose that person over and over again, to go through the messy stuff with. And that’s way more beautiful and raw and real than perfection,” a picture of her kissing Mendes says.
