  • 6 Ferragamo Bags That Are Destined to Reach Cult-Status

6 Ferragamo Bags That Are Destined to Reach Cult-Status

    [ad_1]

Although no one can argue that fashion moves fast, the industry is slow to change. Sure, it seems like fashion is quickly evolving—we’re constantly witnessing specific trends or even items being catapulted into the cultural zeitgeist to amass “cult status” overnight. While we might feel things continuously change from season to season, exposing the seams can tell a different story. Actual systemic change has not nearly moved as fast as everything else in fashion, for who gets to attain positions of power has remained essentially unchanged. Just to put it into perspective, late last year, Vogue Business reported that of the top thirty-three luxury houses, only three creative director positions are held by creatives of color in the 21st century, no less.

It’s a fact that seems to fly in the face of the fact that we’ve recently witnessed the largest spike in cultural appetite for luxury fashion—due to the “quiet luxury” movement—that spans various generations, demographics, and socioeconomic backgrounds. For so many people, the allure of investing in designer goods has never been higher, but with that desire also comes the stark relaxation that they can not always see themselves reflected within the luxury space. Even within something as harmless as the fashion aesthetic “old money,” how it’s reflected is tied not just to having wealth but proximity to whiteness. Within fashion, ideas about who the “typical” luxury consumer is and which creatives get to determine what high fashion is have long been exclusionary. But not all hope is lost; change is coming slowly.

With a new wave of fashion consumers, we’ve seen that long gone are the days we’re pandering to the gallery works. Many shoppers only want to support brands that put their money where their mouths are by giving people of color positions of power. That shift in consumer behavior can be most adeptly traced to the rise in popularity of Ferragamo. Since the Italian fashion house appointed its first-ever Black creative director, Maximilian Davis, the brand has become the place for luxury lovers (of all kinds) to see their desires reflected on the runway. While the brand’s ready-to-wear collections have captivated the fashion crowd’s attention, the brand’s bags have received the most buzz thus far. In light of that, we’re sharing a list of the six best Ferragamo bags, and why we believe that Davis’s appointment signals a change for the house and, dare we say, the wider industry. But first, a bit about this iconic Italian fashion house…

2024 Luxury Outlook Report Reveals Affluent Home Seekers Expanding Reaches and Sustainability Is Top of Mind – Sotheby´s International Realty | Blog

Sotheby’s International Realty Releases 2024 Luxury Outlook Report Uncovering New Hot Spots for Global Investment, International Destinations With Enticing Tax Incentives, and How Cities and Suburbs Continue to Fare Post-Pandemic

Today, Sotheby’s International Realty published its 2024 Luxury Outlook report, a comprehensive exploration into high-end real estate markets across the globe. Following several years of residential real estate frenzy, the report reveals that buyers have begun to acclimate to a new normal of higher interest rates, with high-end home seekers expanding their reaches to more parts of the world with AustraliaMexicoSaudi Arabia, and Turkey poised for growth. The report explores the trends shaping real estate investment decisions in the year ahead, from the intergenerational transfer of wealth, to pinpointing parts of the world where tax incentives are increasingly enticing.

“Our goal for the fourth edition of the Luxury Outlook report was to couple the expert insight of our agents with the perspectives of leading global institutions on the trends affluent buyers can expect in the months ahead to help them make opportunistic transactions in 2024,” said Bradley Nelson, chief marketing officer, Sotheby’s International Realty. “Despite higher interest rates, demand remains strong in many corners of the market, as people move both because they’re going through major life events—such as new children or new jobs—or simply because they want to upgrade their home and, with it, their lifestyle.”

The Sotheby’s International Realty 2024 Luxury Outlook report was compiled by surveying Sotheby’s International Realty agents around the world who transact in the US$10M+ price category. This information was complemented by gathering supporting data from other leading industry experts, including UBS; The Brookings Institution; McKinsey & Company; and property technology and security firm, Kastle Systems; in addition to art and luxury experts at Sotheby’s, the famed auction house, to round out luxury trends in the year to come.

Key findings featured in the report include:

The international market remains robust; policy and regulatory changes are closely linked with real estate markets and are driving investment decisions

High-net-worth individuals being more mobile than ever – maintaining multiple residences – and looking at transactions with a modified perspective in light of higher taxes, new government incentives, or in the face of a changing climate

The real estate industry using the synergy of the real world and the cyber world to market and sell homes

The dominance of telecommuting and hybrid work shifting the demands of affluent homebuyers

Sustainability moving from a niche interest to now being top of mind for many buyers

A historic rise in mortgage interest rates translating into a higher percentage of all-cash deals around the world

Owners needing to be strategic to minimize the tax impact of their wealth transfer given a strong appreciation of real estate values in recent years and the looming drop in the estate tax exemption

More than 80% of leading Sotheby’s International Realty agents said AI is likely to have the biggest impact on the real estate industry in the next five years vs. virtual reality or blockchain

“As we continue to navigate shifts in the real estate market, Sotheby’s International Realty agents from 83 countries and territories around the world continue to lead the way,” said Philip White, president and chief executive officer, Sotheby’s International Realty. “Luxury Outlook offers our clients unparalleled and trusted expertise as they seek to make informed real estate decisions in the year ahead, whether buying, selling, or investing, wherever they may be.”

  • Social media uproar may cost the Maldives millions, as feud with India intensifies

Social media uproar may cost the Maldives millions, as feud with India intensifies

    [ad_1]

Social media posts by Maldivian officials may cost the country millions in tourism revenue, as calls by Indian travelers to boycott the island nation intensify.

“We are seeing a 40% drop in bookings over the last two days,” Ankit Chaturvedi, vice president and global head of marketing at the India-based travel software company Rategain, said Tuesday.

“Most people book on weekends, and therefore the drop seems more significant because ideally [bookings] should have gone up,” he told CNBC Travel.

Travel bookings to the Maldives tumbled following a diplomatic row that erupted last week after a series of posts appeared on X, formerly known as Twitter, on India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s account.

The posts showed him snorkeling, sitting by the water and meeting people in Lakshadweep, which some viewed as a veiled attempt to siphon visitors away from the island nation.

Amid reports that thousands of Indian travelers have canceled trips to the Maldives, one prominent Indian travel booking website, EaseMyTrip, announced it is suspending flight bookings from India to the Maldives.

Some travel agents in India say they are canceling bookings to the Maldives, scrubbing their websites of its photos, and recommending travelers go to the Indian archipelago of Lakshadweep, the Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands or Sri Lanka instead, according to The India Express.

The dispute has thrust a global spotlight on the little-known Lakshadweep, which like the Maldives, is a scenic chain of sandy atolls, coral reefs and crystalline water.

The Maldives, located some 340 miles to the south, is the preferred playground for India, however. In 2023, more than one in 10 arrivals were from India, making it the country’s largest source market, followed by Russia and China, according to Maldives tourism statistics.

But more British travelers — and nearly twice as many Italians — have visited the Maldives in the first week of January, compared to those from India, which fell to fourth place in terms of visitor arrivals.

In the absence of Chinese international travelers, Indians emerged as the region’s travel powerhouse in 2023 and are set to be the fourth largest global travel spenders by 2030.

If calls to #BoycottMaldives continue, millions could be stake.

Exact losses to the Maldives are hard to estimate, said Chaturvedi, but “India drove $380 million worth of tourism last year to Maldives, which is significant.”

The posts that kicked it off

Some blamed Modi’s posts for setting off the debacle even though they did not mention the Maldives, which has lost favor in India following the 2023 election of Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

Muizzu campaigned on an “India out” policy — in contrast to the Maldivian Democratic Party’s “India First” policy. He also broke with long-standing tradition by choosing China for his first official state visit this week, widely viewed as a snub to India.

India’s Ministry of Exterior Affairs did not immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.

However, others say Maldives supporters, bristling at online comparisons to Lakshadweep, kicked off the row by writing negative comments about India’s ability to compete with its resorts and hospitality.

Maldivian Deputy Ministers Malsha Shareef, Mariyam Shiuna and Abdulla Mahzoom Majid lobbed various insults at Modi on X, calling him a “clown,” “terrorist” and “puppet of Israel,” according to Reuters.

Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer sought to distance the country from the comments, writing on X that the remarks “are unacceptable and do not reflect the official position of the Government of the #Maldives.”

The three officials were suspended for their social media posts over the weekend, according to the news agency.

But the furor has only intensified since, underscoring the travel industry’s exposure to local geopolitical affairs, as well as the on-going conflict in the Middle East.

    An inadvertent push?

Inside a Quintessential Beverly Hills Aerie – Sotheby´s International Realty | Blog

    [ad_1]

Mere mention of the zip code 90210 has long signified prosperity and luxury—if not because the Beverly Hills area was home to such golden age luminaries as Douglas Fairbanks, Rudolph Valentino, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles, then due to the acclaim of the eponymous 1990s teen drama, which cemented those digits in the pop culture lexicon. Homes within the city limits themselves and within the area known as Beverly Hills Post Office have long been desirable, with generally larger estate sites providing superior views and seclusion. This urbane four-bedroom residence perched on a crest in this coveted neighborhood deserves the cache that accompanies its address, designed as it is for utmost enjoyment of the quintessential California lifestyle.

Beverly Hills, California | Adrian Avila, Neyshia Go, Sotheby’s International Realty – Beverly Hills Brokerage

Although the property dates to 1929, the sophisticated 6,479-square-foot interior spaces have a patently contemporary style and a Zen-like serenity, with soaring ceilings, soothing organic hues, a thrilling sense of airiness, and generous use of organic materials—amid them wide-plank wood floors, earthy stone surfaces, and reclaimed ceiling beams. The residence is tucked into the hills amid flourishing greenery, which allows oversized windows in many rooms to transform the setting into dynamic natural art. Crowned with a trussed ceiling, the peacefully chic living room is warmed by a bespoke Taj Mahal stone fireplace that seems to anchor the space to the earth. Ample use of wood distinguishes the impressively roomy chef’s kitchen and dining area, which boasts a full complement of professional-grade stainless-steel appliances, an oversized island topped with globe pendant lights, and a disappearing wall of glass opening to a terrace that gazes at green hilltops and blue skies. Nearby, a sitting alcove in a windowed corner is enveloped by that same cinematic view.

Pocket and rolling farm doors in warm wood create privacy in the four bedrooms and their en suite baths. Among them is a primary suite with two versatile room-sized walk-in closets and a stone-clad spa-like bath featuring a lengthy two-sink vanity, a contemporary soaking tub, two seats, and four rainfall shower heads. Other spaces are remarkably adaptable, including a media room that could easily serve as a theater or recording studio and an auxiliary bedroom that—with its accompanying bath, sleek kitchenette, and private entrance—would make an ideal office or in-law suite.

Equally captivating are the outdoor spaces, which flow effortlessly from the interiors. Floating above the flora of the hillside and surrounded by treetops, the expansive terrace offers spaces for alfresco lounging, dining, and stargazing or floating in the shimmering, refreshing pool. Beyond, the hills stretch toward the area’s fabled canyons and, in the distance, a skyline birthed by and named in honor of the dynasty of Hollywood itself—Century City.

  • I Love a Dainty Watch, But I Tried On This Men's Style, and Now I'm Obsessed

I Love a Dainty Watch, But I Tried On This Men's Style, and Now I'm Obsessed

    [ad_1]

The fashion world is currently enamored with watches, especially ones designed for and worn by women. Instagram is loaded with them, showcased on wrists and stacked alongside sculptural bracelets or in a decorative box to show off a growing collection. In a retail space once dominated by men, women are embracing these meticulously crafted and categorically luxurious investment items with open arms.

In the past, celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez dabbled in larger timepieces, but this time around, most of the watches that are trending among women are rather dainty in size. Think smaller Tanks and Baignoires and Lady Datejusts.  While I am nothing if not smitten with all three of the aforementioned styles, I’m also someone who spent her early 20s in a men’s Seiko stolen from her father, which is why I’ve always had a soft spot for bigger, more substantial timepieces when time is taken to choose the right one and, of course, it is styled just right.

One trick to styling a men’s watch is to stick with cases that are 40 millimeters or below. Anything larger than that tends to be overly showy, a trait that’s best avoided, especially for an everyday watch. (Luxury watches are expensive and sought after, so you don’t want to draw an abundance of attention to yours. In 2022, nearly 7000 Rolexes were reported stolen or missing, according to data from The Watch Register.) I also prefer to go for classic color options and minimal designs that can be dressed up or down and will fit seamlessly with my existing jewelry collection and wardrobe.

7 Designer Pieces That Will Define Winter 2024

    [ad_1]

As we await arrivals from the S/S 24 runway collections, many of the hottest buys for the year so far are pieces that we were already charting in 2023. Interestingly, the most popular designer buys this winter are largely smart, seasonless pieces that translate climates and trend cycles. Yes, we’re seeing the rise of pieces like cozy faux fur coats that are primed for dropping temps and inclement weather, but the most in-demand pieces overall could easily be worn now as well as six months or six years from now. Now, that’s the true mark of a smart investment purchase.

Gucci’s recent runway collections have been packed with archival references, resurrecting demand for pieces such as the fashion house’s slim horsebit accessories—specifically new takes on the belts and bags that first debuted in the ’90s. Phoebe Philo’s A1 drop continues to permeate the fashion space and while many items have already sold out, the sunglasses are still available in some colorways. The accessories theme is also extending to the jewelry space. We’re especially seeing wrists layered with heritage watches coupled with tennis bracelets. Ahead, take a closer look at the best designer shopping buys to invest in now.

4 Living Rooms Perfect for Hosting an Award-Winning Viewing Party – Sotheby´s International Realty | Blog

    [ad_1]

Honey Deylami – Dubai Sotheby’s International Realty

The start of a new year is usually associated with the beginning of new adventures. But in the media and entertainment business, a new year marks an opportunity to reflect on recent triumphs. The entertainment of the past 12 months has been parsed and praised, and the only thing left to do is definitively decide which are worthy of the industry’s biggest awards.

The awards season is a milestone on many social calendars, where friends and family come together in living rooms to root for their favorite contenders—and the quality of the event has everything to do with the spaces in which they take place.

So what constitutes an award-winning living room in which to host an award-winning viewing party? These four properties know how to roll out a red carpet.

    A Marina-Side Matinee in California

Sean Stanfield and Ryan Tarr – Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty

With a unique parcel size spanning 3.5 lots in the otherwise compact community of Lido Isle, an award-season party in this impressive property is unforgettable. With west-facing floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the yachts of Newport Harbor, its living room makes the most of the afternoon sunlight and the remarkable sunsets. Immediate access to the covered terrace allows guests to gaze at the stars, whether they’re in front of the television or out by the water.

In fact, the entire residence has been fashioned to unify a series of visually compelling yet individual spaces. This includes a dedicated media viewing space on the second floor, complete with a cozy fireplace for more intimate ambiance.

An Outdoor VIP Screening in Dubai

Honey Deylami – Dubai Sotheby’s International Realty

There’s no better place to watch the Golden Globes than in one of the world’s ritziest, glitziest destinations—Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah. A viewing party at this panoramic glass villa spans the interior and exterior of the home, where the double-height living and dining room extend effortlessly to a fully furnished patio with a retractable poolside screen.

Of course, for those who prefer to do a deep dive on the nominees rather than mix and mingle, the private cinema room down on the basement level is state of the art.

A Chic Soirée in the Center of Paris

Guillaume Lepine – Paris Ouest Sotheby’s International Realty

The proverbial red carpet takes on a tangible form in this colorful apartment. With its lavish architectural flourishes and fixtures—accentuated by an eclectic combination of both antique and contemporary furniture—an awards party in its deluxe living room delivers the right combination of high culture and high drama.

Every room here has themed palettes that create a distinct environment; from the glamorous gold-toned foyer where guests would enter, to the opulent onyx kitchen where they can sip cocktails and debate which actor should have gotten which Oscar. And being located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, this all happens against a postcard-perfect backdrop of the Eiffel Tower.

A Night at the Cinema in Barcelona

Barcelona & Costa Brava Sotheby’s International Realty

Bringing friends and family to a viewing party at this majestic mansion in Barcelona feels like welcoming them to an invite-only screening at the world’s most luxurious movie theater. They would walk into the home to find an open concept living and dining room with coffered ceilings towering nearly 23 feet overhead, and a sprawling garden and pool just beyond the doors.

But the real showstopper is the plushly-appointed home cinema with soundproof walls and its very own movie projector. The nearby bar and billiards table only add to the convivial atmosphere of the viewing party.

Living rooms have always served as a focal point for people to gather together, and awards season is the prime time to throw a viewing party that’s as dazzling and festive as the galas on the screen.

Need some inspiration before curating a viewing party fit for the stars? Check out these contemporary and comfortable design trends.

  • The First Viral Shoes of 2024 Are Here

The First Viral Shoes of 2024 Are Here

    [ad_1]

We’re no more than mere days into 2024, and already, the year’s first footwear phenomenon has taken hold, commanding over Instagram and single-handedly ushering in a very chic but slightly uncomfortable 366 days. Its name is Lee. Crafted by Saint Laurent’s creative director since 2016, Anthony Vaccarello, the Lee is a 4.25-inch geometric stiletto with a heel that’s varnished in the same color of the exaggerated buckle that fastens its patent-leather slingback straps to the rest of the shoes. Some variations are available with a black heel if too much gold isn’t your thing. Available in six colorways, the style made its debut at the French house’s fall/winter 2023 show alongside ’80s-inspired corporate ensembles fit for the office siren, and now that its shoppable, fashion’s elite, including Laura Harrier and Hailey Bieber, can’t seem to get enough.

Scrolling through my Instagram feed over the last few days, I’ve noticed the vampy stilettos on a near-constant basis, often styled alongside other pieces from the fall collection, including pencil skirts, sheer and low-cut tank tops, and shoulder-padded oversize blazers. Hosiery is a must with these, and extra-sheer tights are the primary pick for most of the wearers I’ve seen. According to Vogue, the goal of Vaccarello’s collection was to hit on the concept of elegance and “being dressed.” There was a time not long ago when putting on a pencil skirt, stockings, and heels this sky-high would’ve sent a shutter down most of our spines. That’s no longer the case, though, and 2024’s early obsession with the Lee silhouette is further proof that comfort is no longer king. This year, a “look at me” outfit will reign supreme over one that satisfies your sense of touch and feel. I love my trusty Uggs, too, but they just don’t show off like the Lees will.

Scroll down to learn all about the first viral shoes of 2024.
