  • Musicians Are Fleeing Kid Rock’s ‘Rock the Country’ Festival

No one wants to get in the pit with Kid Rock. Rock band Shinedown is the latest act to pull out of Robert James Ritchie’s MAGA-adjacent “Rock the Country” music festival. “We know this decision will create differences of opinion. But we do not want to participate in something we believe will create further division,” the band wrote on Instagram February 6. “And to our fans, thank you for supporting and believing in us. We love and appreciate you always.” So far, Shinedown is the fourth musician/group to pull out of the “divisive” festival.

Rapper Ludacris was the first act to pull out of the “Rock the Country” festival, days after his name was seen on the official lineup. Reps told Rolling Stone Luda was never going to perform, and that his inclusion was a “mix-up.” Oopsie. “Lines got crossed and he wasn’t supposed to be on there,” they said. Shortly after that, country artists Morgan Wade and Carter Faith pulled out as well. Reality TV fans may remember Wade from her confusing friendship with Kyle Richards on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Wade’s music video teasing a romantic relationship with Richards.

Jason Aldean remains committed, as does Blake Shelton, Creed, Brooks & Dunn, Hank Williams Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Riley Green, Miranda Lambert, and Jelly Roll. Aldean and Hank II’s politics are well-known. Jelly Roll demurred from speaking about his ideological stances at the Grammys Sunday night. When asked about America’s political climate after winning Best Contemporary Country Album, Mr. Roll said “You know, I’m a dumb redneck. I haven’t watched enough.” Jelly Roll also teased becoming more explicitly political within this upcoming week. “Everybody’s going to hear exactly what I have to say about it in the most loud and clear way I’ve ever spoken in my life,” he said. “So I look forward to it.”

Ludacris vs. Soulja Boy: Who’s the First Rapper to Fly Airplane – 247 News Around The World

The Truth Behind Airplane Claim: Ludacris vs. Soulja Boy, In the competitive world of hip-hop, where claims of firsts and groundbreaking achievements are common, a recent exchange between Ludacris and Soulja Boy has captured the attention of fans and media alike. Soulja Boy, known for his braggadocious style, recently asserted in an Instagram video that he was the “first rapper to fly an airplane.” This claim quickly drew a response from Ludacris, who reminded everyone of his own aviation experiences.

Ludacris vs Soulja Boy: The Truth Behind the Airplane Controversy

On October 12, 2024, Soulja Boy shared a video showing himself in an airplane cockpit, confidently declaring his title as the first rap pilot. However, he seemed to overlook historical references such as Snoop Dogg’s role as Captain Mack in the 2004 film Soul Plane, which already placed a rapper in an aviation context. Ludacris, who has been pursuing his pilot license since 2021, responded with a simple yet telling emoji in the comments section of Soulja Boy’s post, signaling that the claim might not hold up under scrutiny.

Ludacris has been vocal about his flying aspirations. In June 2021, he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, discussing his ownership of an aircraft while clarifying that he did not yet have a pilot’s license. He humorously described his initial flying experience as a “nickel ride,” a term from military aviation denoting a short or introductory flight. Despite his lack of formal certification at that time, Ludacris expressed intent to obtain his license in the future.

Following Ludacris’s subtle correction, Soulja Boy acknowledged the oversight and humorously conceded the title to Ludacris. In a follow-up message, he stated, “I just saw your video; you did it first,” adding a gold medal emoji to signify respect for Ludacris’s achievements.

Soulja Boy Claims Aviation First; Ludacris Responds with Facts

Soulja Boy’s claim may have initially garnered attention, Ludacris’s established history with aviation serves as a reminder that in hip-hop—where every claim is scrutinized—authenticity is key. As both artists continue to navigate their careers, this playful rivalry adds another layer to their public personas and emphasizes the importance of factual representation in an industry built on reputation.

  • BeatKing, a Houston rapper known for viral TikTok song ‘Then Leave,’ dies at 39

BeatKing, a Houston rapper known for viral TikTok song ‘Then Leave,’ dies at 39

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Houston rapper BeatKing, whose booming voice and eccentric songs brought him fame in nightclubs and on social media, has died, his manager said Friday. He was 39.

The rapper, whose name was Justin Riley, died Thursday after fainting during a recording session, Tasha Felder told The Associated Press. Felder, his manager, said Riley was taken to a hospital and that he had a pulmonary embolism.

“His daughters were with him the entire time,” Felder said. “It is truly sad, we loved him so much.”

BeatKing, whose club music anthems earned him the name Club Godzilla, achieved his biggest hit in 2020 when his song “Then Leave” went viral on social media and peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. He also scored hits with the songs “Crush” and “Thick.” His final album, “Never Leave Houston on a Sunday,” was released last month.

He was known for humorous, raunchy lyrics and broke through the Houston music scene in 2010 with “Kings of the Club,” reaching Houston’s younger generation not as familiar with the city’s famous slowed music style from The Screwed Up Click and Swisha House.

As a rapper or producer, BeatKing collaborated with major artists including 2 Chainz, Bun B, T-Pain and Ludacris. Although BeatKing didn’t achieve the national prominence of fellow Houstonians such as Travis Scott and Megan Thee Stallion, he found fame throughout the South among fans who admired his sound and authenticity to Houston.

“My condolences @clubgozilla,” 2 Chainz wrote on social media. “God Bless your soul and family.”

“Just a great spirited person,” Bun B said in a tribute to the rapper on Instagram.

Fans on social media recalled BeatKing’s dominance over the club scene in the 2010s. He formed an image for himself by wearing black T-shirts with phrases such as “I unfollow back” and “Stop moving to Houston.”

He is survived by two daughters and his partner.

Ludacris, Mercedes-Benz grant holiday wishes with new shoes

ATLANTA, Ga (AP) — Just in time for the holidays, Ludacris and Mercedes-Benz have surprised schoolchildren in Atlanta with more than 500 new pairs of shoes.

“It’s all about giving kids moments that they’re going to remember for the rest of their lives,” Ludacris said Wednesday at Miles Elementary School. “And I think today is one of those days that just coming here and seeing the smiles on their faces and making sure that, you know, everything is just given to them and knowing that we’re here to help and we’re here to encourage them.”

The rapper and entertainer said he’d remember the day for the rest of his life, too.

The car company’s holiday giving program, Season to Shine, partnered with nonprofit Shoes That Fit to provide kids with new athletic shoes to attend school. Mercedes also partnered with its brand ambassador Ludacris and his foundation, The Ludacris Foundation, to deliver the shoes to the elementary school Wednesday.

Since 1992, Shoes That Fit has provided over 2 million pairs of brand-new shoes and other necessities to children across the United States.

“We are thrilled to partner with Shoes That Fit and to have donated sneakers to students across the country — this is a tangible step to ensure children arrive at school with confidence — prepared to learn, play and succeed,” Dimitris Psillakis, president and CEO of MBUSA said in a statement.

The excitement and joy for hundreds of new shoes isn’t just from the students — it also has a lasting impact on their educators, as well.

Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Lisa Herring, said that this was the chance to “give them an opportunity to have great confidence as they walk in confidence through new shoes that have been provided for them.”

Miles Principal, Thalise Perry, said Wednesday’s surprise was important to the children’s overall education.

“So when they feel good about themselves, they look good that they will perform high inside of our classroom. So many of our students each day, we look to make sure that we can provide support for them, support for their families. And this is one key way of doing just that,” Perry said.
