  • From football to Hollywood: Issac Keys shares his journey of reinvention

    Many professional athletes discover a new life when they’re done playing their sport. For Issac Keys, the transition from football to acting was unusual. After several turbulent chapters, Keys is now in a better place in life. He is ready to share his story in his upcoming memoir. The Grind Don’t Stop, It Just Changes. The book documents moments of his NFL career, the uncertainty he lived through, and how he transitioned to acting. Keys wants to use this book to convey the message that anyone can adapt and overcome life-derailing obstacles.

    “Look at that pivotal point in your life where you had to make a change because you were derailed from the thing you were supposed to do. Think about the things you wanted so bad and worked so hard for, and they were all of a sudden taken away. For me, I realized it was a part of the grind. It didn’t stop, it changed,” said Issac Keys, actor and former NFL star.

    The Grind Don’t Stop, It Just Changes debuts in February 2026. Keys decided to tell his story because of the passing of his father, Issac Keys Sr. Keys Sr’s health started to decline due to onset dementia and sepsis. He passed away on June 8, 2024, two days after the actor’s birthday. This experience led the former NFL star to reevaluate the meaning of legacy and realize how limited our time is.

    “Legacy is not always just about kids or what you leave behind; it’s about what you accomplish in the time that you have on this earth. At this point in my life, I realized that time is not promised,” said Keys.

    Keys is a former NFL Linebacker. He played for the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, and Arizona Cardinals in the early 2000s. After football, he did not have a clear plan. Keys explains that he was in a state of desperation and lost. What led to Keys’ struggles after the sport were a few real estate deals that went bad and burned through his money. Keys had less than $100 in 2007.

    In 2009, Keys moved to Los Angeles and worked several different jobs, like private security and youth intervention. He juggled those while taking acting classes. His effort paid off, as he landed roles on TV series such as Supergirl, Lucifer, and The Rookie. His latest role as Diamond Samson on the spin-off series Power Book IV: Force is his biggest project. This life-changing part helped his finances and made him famous to the point where people stop him for pictures wherever he goes. Even though the role improved his circumstances, Keys didn’t feel secure.

    “When I got the call that told me I got the part, I did a Tiger Woods fist bump and yelled in my apartment. Yet, even after they told me I got the role, I still didn’t believe it. I didn’t believe it because I’ve been through so much heartbreak. People told me I was going to do this and that throughout my life. I didn’t believe it because I felt  like it could simply be taken away,” said Keys.

    The actor started on the book last year after shooting the final season of Power Book IV. Keys explains that writing the Grind Don’t Stop, It Just Changes made him reflect on his childhood. This experience made him question the fights he had as a kid, how putting on a tough exterior led him to football, and whether he was naive in moments of trust with people. He thought deeply about which experiences made it into the book and how most can learn from it.

    “I was able to dig deep into these emotions, which can be great conversations to have with young people or adults. The process of writing this book made me think about why we are the way we are and what barriers are keeping us this way,” said Keys.

    Keys wants to use the story of his life to illustrate that reinvention is possible for anyone who has had to survive life-wrecking situations. He wants to share the chapters of his life in hopes of helping someone and relating to those who feel stuck in their own journey. The Grind Don’t Stop, It Just Changes tells the many lives Keys had to live to go from a bankrupt NFL athlete to a Hollywood actor. The memoir will be released in February 2026.

    Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran are finally joining hands once again for the second installment of their film series Lucifer. The second installment called L2: Empuraan is now officially announced to release on March 27, 2024.

    The official announcement made by the makers unveiled a special poster that featured a mysterious figure, donning a white shirt and has a red dragon symbol on his back.

    The movie L2: Empuraan marks as the second installment in the planned trilogy of the Lucifer series. The action film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran would serve as both a prequel and sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer. The movie features Mohanlal once again as Khureshi-Ab’raam aka Stephen Nedumpally with an ensemble cast of actors like Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan, Arjun Das, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, and many more in key roles.

    The 2019 movie was a political actioner that starts off with a power struggle after the demise of a prominent leader in Kerala. With various forces trying to subdue his apparent heir, things take a swift turn when they realize the person their dealing with is much more sinister than all of them.

    Moving ahead, Mohanlal is also set to make his directorial debut with the movie Barroz. The upcoming movie is touted to be a fantasy flick that focuses on the story of a treasure guardian who is protecting the hidden treasure of Vasco da Gama for 400 years. The film also has actors like Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, and Guru Somasundaram in prominent roles.

    Moreover, the actor is also playing the lead role in the tentatively called L360, directed by Tharun Moorthy. The film was recently wrapped up with the director announcing the pack-up with a new post.

    Furthermore, Mohanlal is also playing a key cameo in the movie Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu in the title role. The film also has actors Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, and more in prominent roles with Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal also making special appearances.

    This thing with Satan is occupying a good part of my biblical studies lately. I’m encouraged to know that God’s plan is pretty precise and obvious to those who are looking for His Word. I was taken with reading Matthew 4: 1-11 regarding the three temptations of Jesus in the desert after 40 days of fasting. When Satan offers Christ ‘all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; I was shocked at the power the devil has to tempt each and every one of us as we operate on what is essentially his turf.

    Remember Lucifer hung out with the Lord in heaven. They were roadies for a while until Lucifer got the big head and was banished to the physical realm. Once Jesus rebuked him for the third time scripture says “Then the devil left Him and angels came and attended Him.” So once Christ withstood temptation, God then delivered unto him all that Satan offered and more.You see that is Christ’s birthright and ours too. So let me get this straight.The devil probably knows the bible better than we do. He understands what tempts us because he knows what pleases God. Remember, they hung out together. Hence I am a much easier target certainly than Jesus Christ was and ruination for me won’t necessarily take the promise of all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. Since I am made in the image of God, perhaps the key to my salvation is surrendering all that I Have and all that I am to Him, He who is my Lord and Savior. By doing so I should be able to put myself into a position to see the devil coming. If I see him coming, maybe I can withstand, for the moment, the need to have my wants and desires satisfied by sacrificing the integrity of my soul for momentary gratification. I understand there is a difference between the temptation to sin and a test of faith. What I’m coming to grips with is how simple it appears to be when looked at from a godly, no spiritual perspective. Once Jesus answered each one of Satan’s successive temptations with Matthew 4:4 “It is (also) written: Man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Matthew 4:7 “It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.”Matthew 4:10 “Away from me Satan! For it is written ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”Then the devil left and the angels came.

    The key then is to get on the other side of temptation by walking in the Word consciously enough to understand that just saying no to Satan is an absolute guarantee of getting all that you desire and all that you need in this life. What must be overcome however is to realize just how cunning the devil has become in getting one to realize, to forget, to ignore that he is the source of all temptation. When in doubt, call on the name of the Lord and eventually Satan will be replaced with angels ready to attend you. As Jesus said, “Seek ye first the kingdom and whatever it is that you desire, you will have more…”

    They say the only sure way to get Satan’s attention is to begin to turn one’s life to Christ. I’ve heard many ministers refer to a person’s lifestyle as but an entryway for the devil to gain access to your world. Supposedly, as long as you engage in the things and happenings of this world, Lucifer has no need to spend any energy dealing with the struggle for your eternal soul. You see life’s trials and temptations alone are enough to sentence any one of us to an afterlife void of the Lord, which if you didn’t know it, is the quintessential definition of hell itself.

    As we use up our time here in the physical world, sometimes we lose sight of the obvious. A life without purpose, a life without direction, a life without faith is a life wandering aimlessly on a highway headed straight to hell. The devil does not need to work to gain access to this life. He can merely wait at the 

    toll booth entrance to hell and collect unsuspecting souls on the way by. You know when you’ve partied so hard that even the next day doesn’t clear the stupor of the night before? In this regard, I’m suggesting that maybe some of us could at least make the devil sweat just a little bit while he manipulates your life’s circumstances.

    Dead Boy Detectives came out barely a week ago, but the show has already earned a devoted following among fans of Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, and supernatural mystery romances. Season 1 has some fantastic cameos, and showrunners Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz are already thinking about who to invite for season 2.

    Dead Boy Detectives tells the story of Edwin Paine (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), two murdered boarding school teens who become best friends in death. Together, the two form a detective agency devoted to solving mysteries among the dead. In season 1, Edwin and Charles team up with psychic medium Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson) and gentle optimist Niko Sasaki (Yuyu Kitamura) as they battle witches, paranormal bureaucracies, and trash-talking dandelion sprites.

    Dead Boy Detectives also ties into the Sandman universe. The first episode features a cameo by Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), when she comes to collect a soul that Edwin and Charles have freed. A later episode features another, more sinister member of the Endless.

    In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Yockey talked about possible plans for season 2, and mentioned that Edwin’s connection with Hell could lead to a very interesting cameo.

    “Both [I and Beth Schwartz] would love to get to hang out with Gwendoline Christie and have Lucifer in the show,” Yockey said, “but we would only do that if Lucifer was interested in a specific case that the boys were investigating. Our show is much smaller in scope than The Sandman, and having those giant characters can easily drown our show … So it would just have to be well-positioned cameos, but obviously, we’re excited about the opportunities.”

    Lucifer in Dead Boy Detectives! Given Edwin’s bitterness over his time in Hell, having Hell’s reigning monarch as a client could lead to a very interesting confrontation. Christie made her debut as Lucifer in The Sandman season 1, in which she challenges Morpheus to the Oldest Game.

    Lucifer isn’t the only cameo that the showrunners would like to see in season 2. Yockey also recently said he’d like to feature Desire (Mason Alexander Park) in season 2, and Park expressed excitement at the idea.

    So will fans get a season 2? We’ll have to wait and see, but Gaiman himself has said in the past that the best way to get another season greenlit is to watch the season currently streaming. DBD fans, you have your assignment.

    I ask you just how hard is it to be a card-carrying Christian these days?  I mean we’ve got card carrying Democrats and Republicans.  You can get a membership card for every organization from the NAACP to the ACLU.  The more I study the more I’m moved to realize that being a professed, in the spirit card-carrying man or woman of faith, is tantamount to putting a bullseye on your back and inviting a artillery barrage on your location.  Scripture tells us that accepting Jesus Christ as a way of life was no easy task for early practitioners of faith.  Being criticized,thrown to the lions for fun and games, beheaded or ostracized were all very real possibilities for those who believed and then lived according to  the Word of God.  Is today so different?  Once you take up the standard of revolutionary thinking, once you commit your life to Christ, once you decide to live humbly in mercy and love and forgiveness isn’t it interesting the kind of attention you attract.  “Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout  the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” 1 Peter 5:8-9

    Looking around the world today, it is ludicrous not to recognize that religious persecution is still the number one cause of war and man’s inhumanity to man.  CNN will attest to the fact that people all over the planet are being systematically annihilated.  We sometimes take for granted the religious freedom we have in this country and I believe it has lulled us into a sense of being a Christian is somehow easy.  Well it’s not and it never has been.  It’s empowering.  It’s enlightening.  

    It’s eternal but it is not easy.  The good news is we are not alone and never have been.  Living for God is probably the quintessential reality of human existence.  Its reward is an inner understanding of the working of the universe that affords us to take physical life for granted in favor of life everlasting.  Many of us believe in life after physical death.  Christians have some insight into what to expect.  Life as we know it is imperfect and cruel.  Eternal life as we have come to believe is just the opposite.  Rationalizing the difference is where faith resides.  Is it any wonder then that belief in a deity that invites humility, demands love and recognizes mercy is cause for ruthless and radical reaction among those who would live otherwise?  Is it any wonder that love for Christ Jesus invites the wrath of Lucifer in all of his forms?  That target, that bullseye  on your back should indeed be worn like a red badge of courage, because courage is what it’s going to take to withstand first the ridicule of the world and next the scorn of those who would tempt you with the weakness of your passions.  And lastly, courage is the prerequisite for the certain death that will befall us all.  If life after death is a fact that most of us agree upon, then I belive it stands to reason that that badge Christians wear is most certainly a ticket into a kingdom blood bought and faith preserved for believers; the same believers who are shunned and persecuted and murdered today and yesterday in the name of God.

I tried to tell him that’s not how it is day to day, but he kept saying he’s read about a plain of burning sand along the Red Line where it rains fire and people are routinely feasted upon by harpies.” The conservative man did concede Chicago had some good restaurants, but said it wasn’t worth paying the toll at the River of Oblivion just to end up getting hacked to pieces by a horned demon who wields a flaming sword.

    Sequels in store

    Interestingly, many of the most loved films of recent times, including RRR, Ponniyin Selvan, Pushpa: The Rise, Kantara, Vikram, and others are now set to get sequels soon. For the unversed, Ponniyin Selvan was already planned as a two-part film, while Vikram has been established as an extension of the crime world set by Kaithi. The makers are planning sequels for RRR and Kantara, considering the unmatchable hold of these films at the box office.
