  • Paul Anthony Kelly Has Become the Internet’s Favorite Batman Fancast | The Mary Sue

    [ad_1]

There are a few things that remain constants in the modern-day Internet: a new adorable animal to obsess over, a new meme that takes a bit of context to really understand, and chatter around Batman. There’s the endless conversation about who should play him onscreen next, particularly in the new DC Universe.

In recent days, the Internet has latched on to a new Batman candidate: Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette star Paul Anthony Kelly. Kelly, who began his career as a model, is relatively new to the world of acting. His only other credit is The Venery of Samantha Bird, a TV series co-starring Katharine Langford and Finn Jones that was scrapped at Starz amid the 2023 Hollywood strikes. But if the hype around Love Story and his performance as Kennedy is any indication, an ever-growing number of DC fans think he has the chops to play the role.

Kelly is far from the first actor to become a popular DCU Batman fancast: a subset of fans have been hell-bent on seeing The Housemaid star Brandon Skelnar in the role since before the DCU was even officially a thing, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Ethan Peck and Masters of the Air‘s Nate Mann have also been popular picks, and Wicked‘s Jonathan Bailey has even been asked about the possibility in interviews.

Kelly probably won’t even be the last actor to be unofficially thrown into the conversation, with development still underway on the franchise’s planned Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. Reports indicated earlier his year that screenwriter Christina Hodson, whose credits include Birds of Prey and Bumblebee, is working on the script. And DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently hinted that The Brave and the Bold won’t be released “in the same year” as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which is currently set to be released in the fall of 2027.

    Paul Anthony Kelly for Batman?!

Still, the fan conversation around Kelly possibly playing Batman has felt… different. It helps that the aesthetic and tone of Love Story has been giving viewers major Bruce Wayne vibes, whether he’s flirting with Sarah Pidgeon’s Carolyn Bessette, yearning while standing in the rain, or simply looking suave in a suit. There are no shortage of fan edits using footage from the show or photos of his modeling career to illustrate the similarities — and at times, he does look like shockingly like Bruce does in the comics. (I, personally, absolutely see the resemblance to how legendary artist Neal Adams drew Bruce in the ’70s.)

But beyond the aesthetics, there are aspects of Kelly’s energy that seem to be resonating with fans. Look no further than the comments on @jaysoromantic’s recent viral TikTok about the fancast, with user @kimdeans2 arguing that: “There is a kindness in his eyes that a lot of Batman actors don’t have… Paul has sad and kind eyes that would collect people broken like him.”

Another comment from user @galacticcowpoke argues that Kelly fits perfectly alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, saying: “What we need is a Bruce and a Clark that look like they could switch roles and I’d be fine with them being either one. And that’s exactly what this one is.” (If you haven’t already, go read 2017’s Batman #37, an issue where the pair do exactly just that.)

With The Brave and the Bold still a ways away, time will only tell if Kelly even ends up in the conversation to play the Caped Crusader. That being said, the years of people fancasting Corenswet for the role proves that nothing is out of the realm of possibility, and it would be poetic for both Superman and Batman to have gotten their start on Ryan Murphy-produced projects, with Corenswet previously appearing in The Politican and Hollywood. Either way, I love that the Kelly fancast has helped remind people of some less-talked-about sides of Bruce Wayne: the playboy, the yearner, and the man who would feel compelled to take an entire family worth of sidekicks under his wing.

  • ‘Love Story’: Inside Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s Final Days

    [ad_1]

Onassis began receiving chemotherapy in January of 1994. She publicly disclosed her diagnosis, saying initially that the prognosis looked good. She even continued to work as an editor at Doubleday. But by March her cancer had spread to her spinal cord and brain. When the cancer spread to her liver in May of 1994, doctors deemed her condition terminal. As “America’s Widow” depicts, Onassis decided to leave New York Hospital of her own volition on May 18, choosing to spend her remaining time at her Upper East Side home. The next evening, at 10:15 p.m., Jackie O died in her sleep with her children by her side.

Love Story’s third episode eschews the fox-hunt accident, instead choosing to portray Jackie’s deteriorating condition at home. An early scene finds Watts as Onassis sitting by her lit fireplace, going through her old letters, rereading each one and then tossing them into the fire. “I don’t need my personal correspondence memorialized in The Smithsonian,” she says when Kelly’s John asks her why she is destroying her keepsakes. According to Jackie’s former lover, architect Jack Warnecke—whom she fell for while he designed JFK’s presidential grave memorial—Onassis really did make a habit of burning her old letters as her health declined.

Journalist J. Randy Taraborrelli interviewed Warnecke in 1998 for his biography of the first lady, Jackie: Public, Private, Secret, which was released in 2023 and excerpted in People. Given Onassis’s fiercely private nature, Warnecke requested that Taraborrelli not publish their interview until 10 years after Warnecke’s own death, which occurred in 2010 when the architect was 91. “As I took my seat, Jackie handed me a stack of envelopes neatly tied together with yarn,” Warnecke told Taraborrelli. “My presence that evening was part of a ritual. Every night that week, she was inviting a trusted friend or family member to her home to take part in it.”

According to Jackie: Public, Private, Secret, Jackie read each letter before placing it into the fireplace. “There were letters from Jackie’s children, John and Caroline…. There were also letters from Jack Kennedy, Aristotle Onassis, her father, Jack Bouvier, and even a few from me,” Warnecke told Taraborrelli. “She held one of the photographs and stared at it. It was her and Jack [Kennedy] on the day of his inauguration. ‘Keep this for me, will you?’ she asked.”

Before she died, Jackie O wrote one final letter to her son. According to Us Weekly, in the three-episode CNN docuseries American Prince, family friend Gary Ginsberg revealed that Jackie O wrote a heartfelt letter full of words of encouragement to her then 33-year-old son. “I understand the pressure you’ll forever have to endure as a Kennedy, even though we brought you into this world as an innocent,” she wrote, repeated almost word for word in the Love Story episode. “You, especially, have a place in history. No matter what course in life you choose, all I can ask is that you…continue to make me, the Kennedy family, and yourself proud.”

  • ‘Love Story’ Premiere Brings Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jr. Back to The Pool

    [ad_1]

It’s almost time to dive into Love Story. Ryan Murphy’s nine-episode series, which chronicles the whirlwind romance and tragic end of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette- Kennedy, debuts on FX on February 12. On Tuesday, the Love Story cast and crew celebrated the premiere with a glitzy party at a New York hot spot befitting the ’90s It couple.

After a screening at Carnegie Hall, guests were bused over to The Pool, a storied event space and the former home of the Four Seasons restaurant located in Midtown’s historic Seagram Building. Designed by Philip Johnson and opened in 1959, The Pool’s mid-century modern aesthetic harkens back to the New York of the Mad Men age. It’s the birthplace of the “power lunch,” where notables like Barry Diller, Henry Kissinger, Barbara Walters, Nora Efron, Tom Wolfe, and yes, even Jackie O, were known to dine; it’s also where Love Story shot a pivotal scene for its second episode. (But more on that in a bit.)

Love Story star Sarah Pidgeon, who plays Carolyn, was locked in a deep conversation with costume designer Rudy Mance at the after-party. “We were just talking about all the hard work that went into it,” Pidgeon says, still clutching her colleague’s arm. “From cast to creatives and crew, there wasn’t a moment that our foot wasn’t on the gas.”

The team had to move quickly—especially Mance, who was brought on to the series after production had already begun. He was hired to fix Carolyn’s look after initial test shots of Pidgeon in character were torn apart on X and Instagram. “There’s no two other people, aside from her and I, that experienced what it was like to find this character through the clothes,” says Mance. “To really find who she was, and the story that we wanted to tell.”

  • Meet actor who made a sensation with her debut role, once rejected a Rs 2 crore deal, and hit headlines for her controversial words

Meet actor who made a sensation with her debut role, once rejected a Rs 2 crore deal, and hit headlines for her controversial words

    [ad_1]

A popular actress in South cinema who is known for acting and dancing skills, became one of the most sensational talents in cinema. The actress is also known to have a strong personality even landing her in a controversy over her words.

Yes, we are talking about one of the most graceful actresses ever, Sai Pallavi. Let’s take a quick look into the celebrity’s filmography and personal life.

Sai Pallavi: From medical student to leading actress

Sai Pallavi started off her career in cinema at an early age, acting in uncredited role as junior artist in Tamil films like Kasthuri Maan and Jayam Ravi’s Dhaam Dhoom. Along with acting in a few advertisements, the actress had also made her appearance as a child in dance reality shows, despite not having formal training.

Moving ahead with her career in medicine, the actress ventured to Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2014, while pursuing her studies, director Alphonse Puthren contacted her for a film who was apparently calling her a second time in a span of six years.

However, Pallavi initially thought the director was a stalker and was considering lodging a complaint until all the misunderstandings were cleared by the director. After their introduction and the movie being offered, Sai Pallavi ventured into her debut role as Malar in Nivin Pauly starrer Premam, becoming a sensational hit.

Check out Nivin Pauly starrer Premam celebrating its 5th anniversary:

Interestingly, the actress had performed in the movie while pursuing her studies and also choreographed one of the dance scenes in the movie. Later on, the actress went on to feature in the lead role for her second film in Malayalam after taking a break from her studies. This led her to star opposite Dulquer Salmaan in the 2016 movie Kali.

By the year 2017, the actress ventured into Telugu cinemas, expanding her cinematic career to other languages. Her first film in Tollywood was the romantic comedy called Fidaa, starring Varun Tej Konidela and directed by Sekhar Kammula.

The character Bhanumati played by Pallavi was a strong-minded and feisty village girl which showcased a whole new layer in her performances. Soon after, she was also seen playing the lead role in the film MCA: Middle Class Abbayi with Nani which was also a hit.

Moving ahead, the actress went on to make her debut in Tamil films with movies like Diya and later on Dhanush starrer Maari 2. The film despite being met with mixed reviews featured the song Rowdy Baby composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja which shattered viewing records on YouTube, commending both the actors’ energetic dance performances.

Check out the song Rowdy Baby from Maari 2:

The actress later on featured in the lead role for the film Padi Padi Leche Manasu which eventually turned out to be a commercial failure. According to reports, owing to the film’s bad performance, the actress had refused to accept her full remuneration for the movie.

Moving ahead in her career, the actress acted in her third Malayalam film called Athiran with Fahadh Faasil and made her appearance opposite Suriya for the film, NGK. Over the last few years, the actress has collaborated with director Sekhar Kammula for the film Love Story featuring Naga Chaitanya in the lead role. Additionally reuniting with Nani for her next movie, Shyam Singha Roy.

Later on, she also acted in films like Virata Parvam opposite Rana Daggubati and even took up the lead role for Richie director Gautham Ramachandran’s film Gargi, after Jyothika refused.

Further ahead, the actress is all set to play the lead roles in films like Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan and co-produced by Kamal Haasan. Besides the upcoming Tamil film, she will also be playing the lead in Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel and also star in Bollywood movies like Ranbir Kapoor-Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and Junaid Khan’s untitled film.

    Sai Pallavi’s personal life

Sai Pallavi Senthamarai Kannan was born in a Badaga family to Senthamarai Kannan and Radha, from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The actress also has a younger sister called Pooja Kannan who has also been part of films.

Despite having her hometown in Kotagiri, the actress was raised in Coimbatore, after which she went to Tbilisi to pursue her medicinal studies. Even though she has completed her studies and certification, the actress has not yet registered as a medical practitioner in India.

Sai Pallavi is also adept at speaking languages like Badaga, Tamil, English, Hindi, and Gregorian. Owing to her career, the actress later on also learned  Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada languages.

Moreover, the actress is often known to have strong opinions and remarks about her standings, which even led her to reject a Rs 2 crore deal for endorsing a fairness cream. Furthermore, the actress had also once hit the headlines for her controversial comments about the film, The Kashmir Files.

The actress’ questions after comparing the film’s instance to cow vigilantism led to widespread criticism online which led to her issuing a clarification on her statements being misinterpreted. She also added that she would neither trivialize a tragedy nor be comfortable with mob lynchings.
