The newest season of “Love is Blind” set in Charlotte has been released. Here’s everything you need to know about the hometown singles.

    Expand All

The latest season of “Love is Blind” started out with 30 men and women from Charlotte — but only one couple tied the knot on Netflix’s hit reality dating show: Amy Cortés and Johnny McIntyre.

From the start, the pair had one of the strongest connections in the pods, as the first couple to say “I love you” and the first to get engaged sight unseen.

The two are still happily together, just a few months shy of their wedding anniversary.

After the full season aired, the two sat down with CharlotteFive to talk about how their new life as newlyweds has been — and why they think they were the only couple to walk away from the show together.

(Note: The conversation has been edited for clarity and brevity.)

C5: Coming up on your first anniversary … how has it been so far?

Amy: “It’s been so good. It’s been very busy for sure. We ended up moving together a couple months after we got married, around August, so getting situated there, and then we’ve also been traveling a lot. We have visited his family in Maine and then Austin. I think we went to Boston for a little bit, too … So we’ve kind of been everywhere to see his family, and then we also traveled with my family to France, as well, so definitely a lot of eventful stuff going on and just really enjoying the first year.”

C5: From what was shown this season, were there any big parts of your relationship that didn’t air?

Johnny: “Yeah … I feel like we had a relationship that was more so easy to kind of talk through. We did talk through a lot of things. Like it wasn’t any big blow up conversations. It wasn’t a lot of like intense fights. It was more along the lines of like, ‘What are the things you’re looking for out of this? What am I looking for out of this?’ — and then we just kind of talked through our relationship that way.”

Amy: “I will say, I was putting a lot of pressure on Johnny in those pods ‘cause I wanted to lay everything out there, and I just wanted to make sure that if he was going to get down on a knee, it was for a reason, and he knew everything. So, I had told him about my brother, but I also come from like a big family and my dad is the main provider because my mom is not able to help out a lot because a language barrier and all of that, so we have a lot of elderly family members at home that I also have to help take care for, as well and that was a huge thing too …

“I told him if like something happens to my dad, not only would I also be a legal guardian for my brother, but I would also have to help out heavily with my family, and I would want my husband to also lean in there, too. And that’s a lot to ask of somebody, and it’s something that he really had to think through, and I feel like it speaks a lot to his character because he still was like, ‘Yeah. I mean it’s worth it.’

“But I feel like that was an ongoing conversation for sure, and just the different lifestyles that we came from. I’m more of like going out and having fun, and he’s more of an outside guy, like loves to hike and all that and I’m not about that life so it was really was just like meeting in the middle and doing a little bit of both but I felt like that wasn’t really that big a deal. I thought, if anything, it was a balance.”

C5: “Looking back at the beginning of filming … did you ever expect to be where you are now as a couple?”

Johnny: “Not even close … I was not expecting to be on the show at all … I was like, ‘Cool to be on this, but you know what … I’m really just gonna try to learn a lot about myself in the process and try to figure out why previous relationships weren’t amounting to something more …

“By day four or five, that’s when we were like, ‘Hey, we’re just gonna date each other. Like, I don’t want to see anybody else. I’m not here for anybody else. Let’s see really how far we can take this,’ and that’s exactly what we did.”

Amy: “I feel like we both kind of came from similar backgrounds where we weren’t going to do it, and we didn’t really have any heavy expectations, and then it just kind of like flowed seamlessly. But I feel like that was the beauty of it because we didn’t really like — obviously we wanted marriage — but we weren’t like, ‘I’m gonna end this with marriage,’ and it’s like if it didn’t end like that, I think like it would have been fine. We would’ve known it wasn’t meant to be, but I feel like we weren’t like firmly grasping on that. We didn’t force anything, and I think that’s why it all played out the way that it did.”

C5: This season started out with 30 men and women, but you were the only ones who walked away with a marriage. Why do you think that is?

Amy: “Honestly, I’m not sure. I feel like the odds were really in our favor … It really kind of depends up who ends up choosing who, and then like, the dynamics within like each individual because there might be some trauma that might be unhealed and they don’t realize it until they’re actually making something as serious as marriage work … I feel like there could have definitely been more of an outcome, but I feel like everybody took that — at least most people that I know — took that experience very serious, and they gave it their all and they just didn’t find their person. So maybe it was just that there was not a lot of compatibility there or if there was, it was just not enough to get to that next step.”

Johnny: “I feel like for me a big thing was, you could tell just like when we were hanging out like in the lounge, the other 15 guys — I can’t speak for the girls now — is that a lot of them were very much, ‘This is like the way. This is my way of doing it this way, and no one can tell me otherwise’… kind of like in a one track mind.

“I feel like the reason why me and Amy actually worked out well was because we wanted to change our mindset towards different things like … towards different people, seeing different things from viewpoints, having different perspectives on things that we really never thought too much about, and I think that’s really why it worked out well for us because we’re both able to really see each other kind of where we started as opposed to just being like stuck on one specific topic and not getting past that.”

C5: “Based on everything that’s unfolded this season … do you think it is reflective of Charlotte’s dating scene?”

Johny: “I think that people in Charlotte want to date so they don’t have to be by themselves and I think that’s probably the worst way to go about dating. I think dating shouldn’t be just, ‘Hey, I don’t want to be alone so I’m gonna try find somebody else to just not be alone with’ …. and I feel like going into like a relationship, you have to do the work internally to find out what you want out of a partner and become that person.”

Amy: “And I feel like that’s not just a Charlotte thing. It’s unfortunately, like, our generation is very scared of commitment — and that’s because a lot of us saw how other generations within our family might have gone about relationships, and so I feel like we tread carefully but we also tread too carefully. And it’s just finding that middle ground of, ‘Hey, like, let go and actually let love come to you,’ rather than like force it or be too scared of it.”

C5: “What are your go-to date night spots in Charlotte?”

Johnny: “There’s a place called Thai House in the University area … and it is really good.”

Amy: “We go to Pho NoDa …We just really love our Asian food … Another top place that we love to go to because we love our tacos is Tacos El Nevado on Central. It’s my favorite taco spot in Charlotte, and I put him on and he’s obsessed.”

Though five couples got engaged on the Charlotte season of “Love is Blind” on Netflix, only one pair got married, and arguably the most surprising breakups was Brittany Mills and Kenneth Gorham’s.

If you watched the reality dating show, you know that the local principal and senior client partner broke up shortly after moving in together, which is why so many fans were shocked to hear at the cast reunion that the two talk nearly every day.

After the finale, Brittany sat down with CharlotteFive to spill all the details on their relationship, from why they broke up to how they connected as close friends.

(Note: The conversation has been edited for clarity and brevity.)

C5: “How did you know Kenneth was the one you wanted to pursue in the pods?”

Brittany: “So Kenneth and I had a wonderful connection. Honestly, it was unmatched. You know, everyone has connections and with multiple different people and it’s like, there’s no way that you can’t. But like Kenneth and I … he was just … the only way that I can describe it is secure. Everything, every action, every mindset, every decision, every word … it was just exuding security.

“Another thing that was like very, very important to me is my Christian faith, and that’s something that I knew that I — I told myself the whole entire time — I was like, ‘My intention here is to find a God-fearing man, whether that means that I end up with this person because you never know what’s gonna happen, like I want to know that a God-fearing man is still out in this world and is still available and is still proud of his Christian faith.’”

C5: “You guys were one of the strongest, if not the strongest, couple coming out of the pods … so why do you think things were different for you guys outside of the pods versus inside?”

Brittany: “So I think things were different for Kenneth and I outside of the pods because truthfully, as much as Kenneth and I were very connected and we have the same morals and we have the same values, we have the same views, we are two totally different people. You know, I think during the pods, I was able to bring out his more emotional side, and also his extroverted side.

“Kenneth truly is a very introverted individual, and a lot of people don’t realize that because, you know, he’s a principal, he’s very active in the community, he’s like been on shows where he’s having cameras in his face and it’s like no one wants to believe he’s an introvert, but he truly is.

“But I think with the show particularly … the filming and the cameras, it was a lot for him. Not the fact that he was unable to handle it, but it’s like if you don’t wanna do something, you don’t wanna do something. I think it was just a lot, the situation was a lot. We started to drift apart. You could tell from my emotions that I wasn’t physically attracted to him, and when someone’s not physically attracted, you’re not going to push, you know?”

C5: “Could you walk me through that breakup and if you felt blindsided at all, or if you think it was an accurate portrayal of what was actually happening?”

Brittany: “The way that it was actually filmed was the truth. … Honestly, I wanna make a PSA and just let it out there: We did not have a conversation prior to the kitchen whole debacle. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh well like, you know, PR or whatever made them like stage it.’ Nothing was staged.

“In fact, Kenneth was actually so taken back by that conversation because Kenneth and I actually agreed like, ‘Hey, if anything ever goes wrong with us, like let’s make sure that we have a discussion first like off camera to make sure we’re on the same page,’ whereas I had had a long day at work, I had gotten woken up at 1:30 am the night before, like all of that…so while I did kind of mislead him of not having that conversation off camera before, I was feeling so much in that moment that I had to get it out, like it was just eating at me …

“A lot of people have thrown out like gaslighting, blindsided, all of that … people are gonna have their opinions. But the thing is, I told Kenneth, ‘Hey. I am not physically attracted to you and that crave that I’m feeling, or not feeling, is very taboo for me. I am a very affectionate person, like I love love and that’s just who I am, and I’m not experiencing that with you and so it is drawing concern for me.’

“Kenneth was ‘pulled back,’ so someone would say … It’s like how do you convince someone to be physically attracted to you? So what could he have done in that moment? … Coming from many situations where I have not always been respected, like, I appreciate it. So that was the kitchen conversation.”

Love is Blind stars Brittany and Kenneth in Season 6 of the Netflix reality dating show.

“We had a conversation for like an hour and a half the day after we broke up on camera that they chose not to put out there. Why? I have no idea. That’s not … I mean, it is my business, but I’m not worried about it.”

“It was such a beautiful conversation that like, honestly, America and the viewers missed out on. Like the most positive, mature, emotionally intelligent conversation that I think out of any of the couples could’ve had on the show.” So we were watching it and like, ‘Dang. They really missed out on like such a good conversation,’ so I think that’s why people were so shocked seeing my TikTok that ENews! called ‘cryptic’ apparently, that like everyone was like, ‘Wait. How are y’all still friends? How did y’all end up here?,’ and I’m like, well baby, y’all were robbed of how we really ended.”

C5: “So what was that follow-up conversation like?”

Brittany: “The follow up conversation that Kenneth and I had like the day after our breakup — I think it was two days after our breakup, actually — truthfully, it was just like a moment to really decompress …

“‘We only want the best for one another. Like, you’re gonna find your person.’ I’ve been through a lot, where like I said, I haven’t been very much so respected. Like he said, ‘I see that in you, and like you deserve so much.’ I mean, honestly, like a wonderful conversation of just like tying our loose ends and being like, ‘Hey. You’re always gonna be an important part of my life.’

C5: “Would you say that love is blind?”

Brittany: “Honestly, it is, and I really want the world to know that and people to know that. Like, love is actually blind.

Love is Blind stars Kenneth and Brittney in Season 6 of the Netflix reality dating show.
Love is Blind stars Kenneth and Brittney in Season 6 of the Netflix reality dating show. Courtesy of Netflix

“While yes, I know that personally I was not physically attracted to Kenneth, and that is a large part of this … you go on the show and it’s like, ‘Okay, you fall in love with someone sight unseen and still continue to be in love with them.’ That was something that I struggled with so much… But the thing is, is that I still shared so much love with Kenneth sight unseen, and so just because we didn’t end in a marriage … I think that the love that we shared, we did it sight unseen … so absolutely, love is blind for sure.”

C5: “Looking ahead, are you dating anyone now? Are you single? What’s going on with your love life now that the show has finished?”

Brittany: “So, I am currently single. You know, this is like I said, a large process. It’s a huge experience and you’re still going through it. I am, like I said, a very type A personality and I’m trying to get everything taken care of. I wanna be sure to take advantage of all opportunities, and I don’t know if I have the time to be like, ‘Let me introduce myself to someone’ … I’m not on the dating apps. I don’t just like to go out to bars just looking for someone and so it’s like, I think right now, I’m just letting what comes in my life come in my life and be comfortable with that and know that when I’m ready for a marriage, it’s gonna happen.”

C5: “So knowing what you know now, would you do the experiment again?”

Brittany: “I would one thousand and 10 percent do the experiment again. You know, it was a journey but I felt so free and confident in myself …

“Even if I had the same outcome, I would still do it over again. That’s how much I thoroughly enjoyed being there and, like, the process.”

Netflix is still looking for Detroit ‘Love is Blind’ contestants

    Netflix

Viewers love the messy reality TV show Love the Blind.

A reminder to Detroit-area singles: As previously reported, Netflix is casting for local contestants for its popular dating show Love is Blind. And if Wednesday night’s Season 6 reunion episode was any indication, this season, too, will likely turn embarrassingly messy.

There are, of course, a few stipulations. One, the show is famously filmed inside isolation pods, where contestants can only communicate with their prospective matches through a speaker and must agree to get engaged before meeting in person (and, we guess, fucking). They then spend three weeks living in the same apartment complex in their city while learning more about each other and planning their wedding. Throughout the season, they also apparently drink lots of alcohol, which has in part been the subject of lawsuits brought by previous cast members against the show.

If you’re down with all of the above, you also have to answer a 69-question survey that includes information about your dating life, hobbies, dealbreakers, and a short 15-second video pitch, among other things. A third-party company then conducts background checks and psychological evaluations on the participants.

That background check and evaluation is necessary because Love is Blind is not for the faint of heart. Scrolling down on the show’s Wikipedia page reveals a “controversies” subsection with allegations of “inhumane working conditions” including reportedly being made to film drunk and being denied food and water, allegations of sexual assault while filming, and allegations of other abusive behavior.

Who knows — this might just be your chance for Detroit romantics to find their happily ever after – or at the very least, 15 minutes of reality TV fame and a pumped-up Instagram following.

Warning: Love Is Blind Season 6 spoilers ahead. After they were spotted out together in Florida, fans of Love Is Blind are all asking the same thing: Are Chelsea and Jimmy back together?

Speculation arose when the pair, who parted ways before their scheduled wedding on the Netflix show’s finale, were spotted sharing a meal together at JB’s on the Beach in Florida on March 7, 2024. Chelsea, who was wearing a snake print dress, and Jimmy, who opted for a low-key ensemble of shorts, a T-shirt, and a hat, seemed relaxed in each other’s company.

Their rendezvous didn’t go unnoticed, especially after a TikTok user posted a video from their outing on March 7, which showed the flight attendant sharing a light-hearted moment with her former fiancé. In the clip, Chelsea shows something to Jimmy on her phone before throwing her head back in laughter. The video sparked a flurry of reactions from fans, with one commenting, “Omg I love TikTok giving the people free tea!”

Adding fuel to the speculation, both Chelsea and Jimmy took to social media to document their time together, posting photos from their beachside dinner at the same restaurant to their Instagram Stories. Chelsea captioned her photo with, “Alexa play beachin’ by Jake Owen.”

Chelsea also dropped another nugget of information: she was in town to attend a friend’s wedding in the Fort Lauderdale area. “Coming for my best friend’s wedding! @mizzp86 can’t wait to squeeze you,” she wrote on her Instagram Story, accompanied by a photo of herself on the plane. While we can’t say for sure whether Jimmy was her date, many fans seem convinced that the Netflix star was there as her plus one.

Some viewers weren’t entirely surprised by this reunion, recalling Jimmy’s words during their split on the show: “I love you to death and I want a relationship with you and I want it to work so bad—but I don’t want to go to the altar. I can’t.” The sentiment was echoed by a fan on TikTok, who wrote, “He did say he wanted to still be with her just not married yet. Do y’all pay attention in the show?”

Jimmy and Chelsea’s journey on Love Is Blind was filled with plenty of hurdles, from disagreements over past relationships to doubts about commitment. Chelsea couldn’t move past being called “clingy” by Jimmy after meeting each other outside of the pods, whereas Jimmy felt that the flight attendant betrayed his trust by asking about one of his past sexual encounters with one of his friends on camera after he explicitly asked her to keep that conversation private.

Despite going so far as to search for their wedding song together, Jimmy ultimately decided to end the engagement, leaving Chelsea visibly stunned. “I feel like you weren’t even trying to get married,” she told him after his decision. “I feel like you’ve known you were going to say no this entire time and you just wasted my time.”

Jimmy insisted that proposing to Chelsea was the “greatest thing I’ve done,” but explained that his decision boiled down to the disrespect he faced during one of their big arguments on Episode 10 of the season. He said their disagreement was “such a big step back that I can’t fathom marrying you after that,” to which Chelsea replied, “You throw in the towel with one issue? That’s marriage. That’s marriage. Marriage is not easy.” She added, “I was so hopeful for us,” before walking away in tears.

The Love Is Blind season 6 reunion airs on Netflix on March 13, 2024.

Here’s Why “Love Is Blind” Features Those Gold Cups in Basically Every Scene

There are numerous standout stars on the newest season of “Love Is Blind” — Megan Fox (Chelsea Blackwell), AD’s mother, Kenneth’s phone, and the EpiPen, to name a few — but no star shines quite as bright as the famed gold cups. You know the ones we’re talking about: those metallic-tinged wine glasses that pop up in nearly every frame of the Netflix dating series.

As omnipresent as the drama, the shiny goblets, of both the stemmed and stemless variety, aren’t just sipped by contestants in the pods; they also score a ticket to the all-inclusive honeymoon resort in the Dominican Republic and make appearances, well, pretty much everywhere. Viewers can see them at the group pool party in North Carolina, the wedding-dress shop, every family’s house, and every contestant’s apartment. We’ll put it this way: if “take a shot every time you see a gold cup” was part of a “Love Is Blind” drinking game, you’d likely end up with a massive hangover after just one episode.

So, what’s the purpose of the ubiquitous drinking vessels, and where on earth did they come from? Wonder no more, because we’ve got answers right here.

What’s With the “Love Is Blind” Gold Cups?

“Love Is Blind” creator Chris Coelen told Variety that he chose the cups as a way to aesthetically distinguish the series — because holing up would-be lovers in tiny pods separated by an illuminated wall wasn’t enough to do so, apparently. “When you turn on the show, you know it’s our show,” he said. “It’s a very authentic, really true following of these people’s journeys, but I like the fact that we have this sort of connective tissue with that in a really light way.” Beyond that, the opaque nature of the glasses allows for seamless continuity; editors can cobble together scenes without worrying about how much alcohol, water, coffee, or whatever preferred liquid is left in each contestant’s cup. Plus, the fact that they’re metal and therefore harder to break than glass helps, too.

POPSUGAR also reached out to Netflix about where they scored the viral gold cups — y’know, just in case we plan a “Love Is Blind”-themed party in the future. A representative from the show’s production company, Kinetic Content, told us they were, unsurprisingly, purchased in bulk from Amazon and transported from location to location by production vans. Although they were unable to provide the exact brand, this product listing on Amazon looks like a pretty spot-on dupe.

While the inescapable glasses made a splash among eagle-eyed “Love Is Blind” fans, they also became a mascot of sorts for every contestant — especially the women from season two. Deepti Vempati, who got engaged to but later broke things off with Shake Chatterjee, told E! News that she and the other ladies from the show’s season want to get matching tattoos of the golden wine glasses. “We’ve been through so much, and we would always put all of our drinks in the gold goblets,” she said. “It’s just a symbolic thing for us.”

Warning: Love Is Blind Season 6 spoilers ahead. Whether he likes it or not, the name on everyone’s lips this Love Is Blind season is Matthew. But what happened to Matthew from Love Is Blind Season 6 and where is he now after his love triangle with AD and Amber? Read on for where one of Love Is Blind Season 6’s most talked-about contestants is now.

Matthew Duliba was one of 30 contestants on Love Is Blind Season 6, who were hoping to get engaged—sight unseen. He was involved in a love triangle with two contestants, AD and Amber, before he self-eliminated in The Pods when the women confronted him about telling each other similar things.

Love Is Blind, which first premiered on Netflix in February 2020, follows around 30 men and women over the course of a couple weeks as they speed-date in “Pods,” where they can talk to each other but not see each other. During the 10 days, the couples can decide if they want to get engaged—still sight unseen. After the proposal, the couples meet face-to-face for the first time and go on vacation at a resort in Mexico, where they learn more about each other and meet the other couples. After the trip, the couples, who all live in the same city, return to the real world and move into an apartment together as they meet each other’s families and friends and prepare for their weddings. At the altar on their wedding days, the couples must decide whether to marry or break up as they answer the age-old question of if love can be truly blind.

Since the premiere of Love Is Blind, the show has become one of Netflix’s highest-rated series, with more than 30 million views in its first two months. “Across the world, everybody feels the same way: Everyone wants to be loved for who they are on the inside. It doesn’t matter where you live, what you look like, how old you are, what your background is, which class you know, or social structure you feel like you’re a part of, everyone wants to be loved for who they are,” creator Chris Coelen told Variety in 2020. “In today’s society we’ve got all these ways to find love through dating apps and technology. Those things sort of counterintuitively have made people feel disposable. They’ve made people feel like it’s all surface level. It does the opposite thing it was supposed to do. So we thought, what if we took everybody’s devices away, how could we get them to focus on connecting with other people?”

But back to Matthew. So what happened to Matthew from Love Is Blind Season 6 and where is he now? Read on for what we know about what’s happened to Matthew since Love Is Blind Season 6 finished filming and where he stands with AD.

What happened to Matthew from Love Is Blind Season 6?

    Matthew - Love Is Blind

What happened to Matthew from Love Is Blind Season 6? Matthew left Love Is Blind Season 6 in The Pods after AD confronted him about telling her similar things to what he told Amber, another contestant. Matthew had told AD that he wanted to ask her father’s blessing before he proposed, but since he couldn’t do that, he offered to leave the show with her and stop The Pods experiment completely. When AD told Amber what Matthew had said, Amber realized that their conversations were too similar for comfort. “Excuse me, ma’am, I need you to be so for real with me right now,” Amber told AD. “Leave with him?”

When AD confirmed that Matthew asked her to leave Love Is Blind with him, Amber responded, “I’m gonna live out my worst fears. Slay.” AD then told Amber about a conversation that she had with Matthew that was similar to one he had with Amber. “What I did not tell you is that, like, everything you said to me today, he said to me yesterday,” AD said. “He asked about my father and asking him to have my hand.”

The relevation made Amber feel “icky” about her relationship with Matthew. “He did the same thing to me,” Amber continued. “He was like, ‘I can tell how important family is to you. And if I can’t call your dad, I won’t. Like, we’ll leave.’ Now I feel like a dick. I’m so sorry.”

She continued, “I’m not a joke. What the actual fuck is wrong with men? I definitely feel more bad about taking that from you. I can never, ever like not love you… I think it’s time to bow out.”

When Matthew and AD met up later in The Pods, Matthew confirmed that Amber had left Love Is Blind because of what AD had told her. “You know Amber left, right?” he said. “I would assume that’s about me.”

AD responded, “That would be audacious of you,” adding that “everyone has their own reasons for leaving. AD then accused Matthew of manipulating her, which Matthew explained as him having a bad day.

“It hurts because I’ve never felt the way I did with you before,” Matthew said. “But you know, America, they do love a good underdog and they do love comebacks. I think I got the entire country of America on my side.” In the end, AD broke up with Matthew, which led him to leave Love Is Blind single, but not before he broke the fourth wall and told her that he now felt viewers wouldn’t like him.

So what’s happened to Matthew since Love Is Blind Season 6 finished filming? In an interview with People in February 2024, AD — who later chose and got engaged to Clay — confirmed that she has “zero regrets” for how her relationship with Matthew ended. “I have zero regrets on my little love triangle,” she said. “I think I did the best and I made the best decisions I could in that moment.”

She also confirmed that she’s spoken to Matthew since filming ended on Love Is Blind Season 6. “I did have a few conversations with Matthew,” she said. “It went well. Matthew’s got a very interesting way of getting his point across. And so, I didn’t push, I didn’t pull anything out of him. He said what he wanted to say, and we had our conversation, and we moved on.”

AD also confirmed that Matthew had apologized for his behavior in The Pods in an interview with Us Weekly in February 2024. “Matthew and I had a few conversations post-pods and he apologized,” AD said. “He said his piece, I said mine, and we moved on.”

As for where Matthew is now, Matthew is one of Love Is Blind contestants who didn’t announce he was on Season 6. On the day Love Is Blind Season 6 premiered, Matthew only shared one Love Is Blind post on his Instagram Story and nothing on his grid. On his Instagram Story was a repost of a Netflix meme that read: “if I sent you this just know im not answering any questions today” with a photo of him. Netflix captioned the meme, “i said what i said.”

At the time of writing this, Matthew follows AD on Instagram and she follows him back. Matthew, however, doesn’t follow Clay, who AD got engaged to after their breakup in The Pods.

Matthew knows he’s been “emotionally guarded” when it comes to past relationships — and that’s why he’s choosing to confront his issues head on with Love Is Blind. “When life presents you with an opportunity which takes that weakness and exposes it, how can you turn it down if it’s really important to find that special someone?” If he can tear his walls down, Matthew is looking for an “intelligent, caring, considerate, hardworking, and driven” woman in the pods who won’t mind his boxer dog sleeping in bed with them. But he’s ready to put it all on the line to meet his perfect match, adding, “I don’t think there is anything that I wouldn’t sacrifice to find the right person and my commitment to this experiment is evidence of that.”

“Love is Blind” stars Clay, Johnny and Trevor interviewing with CharlotteFive’s Chyna Blackmon.

    Netflix

    Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, a new season of “Love is Blind” has dropped on Netflix, featuring dozens of Charlotte singles looking for love behind closed doors to date and getting engaged — all before meeting in person.

The dating experiment started with 30 local men and women in the pods, but (spoiler alert) five couples left the pods together.

Ahead of the season’s premiere and the release of the first few episodes, we got to hear from some of the local stars about their experiences on the reality show, including their best and worst moments of the experiment.

    Netflix

While they couldn’t give away all the details on how things turned out after the show, here’s what they told CharlotteFive about how they were feeling behind the scenes. Note: We spoke to the men and the women in separate interviews, and we’ve combined their answers here.

    Netflix

CharlotteFive: With Charlotte being such a small town, were you worried about potentially bumping into someone you already knew?

Johnny: “I feel, like, yes. But I don’t know, Charlotte is still like … it’s a small town in the fact that, like, you see a lot of people. But at the same time, it’s … what are the chances?”

Trevor: “I wasn’t worried it was gonna be someone I know very well, but I feel like it could’ve been someone I met one time and like, it probably really wouldn’t register if it was just someone you met ’cause you don’t get to see them right away.”

Clay: “I didn’t have that fear. I felt as though that I didn’t date around too much in Charlotte where I’ll see someone I’ve known, and plus, I just moved to Charlotte two years ago, so it wasn’t like I knew everybody there.”

Jess: “Yes. I’m from Charlotte and have lived there my entire life so I thought it was — I was almost certain that I would find someone I knew there.”

Amy: “I feel like that was my biggest fear, too. I feel like everybody knows each other in Charlotte so I was just scared that I would run into somebody from the past, but luckily that was not the case.”

AD: “I definitely had the same fear. I work in a very specific, well used to work in a very specific area and with the same people — very small town vibes — and I just knew for sure that someone I knew was gonna be on there, but they did their magic.”

CharlotteFive: Were there any contestants you later found out that you did know of or recognized?

For both the men and women, they all said they didn’t recognize any of the other contestants, but Clay did share one coincidence he later realized.

Clay: “I’ve heard of AD before. It’s actually funny. Someone showed me her Instagram, like when I first moved here. But, like, I never, like, put two and two together.”

CharlotteFive: What made you think you’d have better luck finding your person on ‘Love is Blind’ rather than the dating apps or meeting someone face to face?

Clay: “I never was a big dating app type of guy. And I will tell you, my mom was a big proponent of me joining this show. She was a big advocate. She said that, you know, ’cause I usually lean with trying to, you know, identify the physical features instead of building an emotional connection. So my mom thought it’d be a good opportunity for me to drop that and actually find some real love. It’s actually funny. She was actually talking about “Marriage at First Sight” not “Love is Blind” … so she actually gave me the wrong show to join, but hey it’s all good. It worked out.”

AD: “The dating apps, honestly, I think they should eliminate the bio, anything to get to know you ’cause none of that matters. It’s just, ‘What is that first picture, do you capture my attention, and if so, then now I wanna talk to you’ but only for a short amount of time. And so with “Love is Blind,” that eliminates everything. It’s like the opposite. It takes the photos out and now it’s just strictly bio, who you are, what you have to offer, and that’s where I’m judged. I think being able to do that in reverse changed the game for me.”

CharlotteFive: Knowing what you know now, would you do the experiment again?

Trevor: “Absolutely I would do the experiment again. I loved going through everything with the experiment, from like the lounge, like, getting to know, like, my best friends to getting to a know a girl before judging them by their looks or having them judge me by my looks. I would definitely do it again.”

Jess: “Absolutely. I would do it 100 times over. If I could somehow change that to be, like, my normal dating style, I would do that. Like AD said, having to lead with what honestly really matters and substance … like, that’s such a better plan for success and long-term relationships and marriage. So yes, I would definitely do it again.”

CharlotteFive: What were your highs and lows from the overall experiment?

Johnny: “I’d say high was, I mean honestly just going to the DR (Dominican Republic). I feel like that was a really cool experience just because I’ve never actually left the country before, so being able to do that with my new fiance was absolutely amazing.

“Lows was … so during production, like during the couple days in the pods, we’d always get talked to by the creator, Chris, and he’d say, ‘Hey, like you know the topic of the day is gonna be this specific topic.’ But he’d also bring into the fact, ‘Oh, by the way, so and so decided to leave.’ And I remember one day, ‘cause there’s two Amys, Amy Cai had left. And he said, ‘Oh, Amy left,’ and I felt this, like, my world shake ‘cause he just said Amy. And I was like ‘Oh my God. I lost her. This is not good. Last night, I talked to her and I was like, ‘I have to see you again. She was like, ‘Yes. I have to see you, too,’ and we were so, like, locked into seeing each other the next day.

“So that really affected me a lot, like, that morning and then, I don’t know, I realized on like the next date I had, probably like a couple hours later, that that was Amy (Cai) and I was like, ‘Oh thank God. You aren’t home. Like, I thought I lost you, but I didn’t lose her. It was really nice.”

Trevor: “I’m gonna say mine was the same scene, my high and my low. The scene where Chelsea had to end things with me in the pods. Obviously a low ’cause I was let down and I wasn’t expecting it, but I think it was a high for me because of how I handled it.

“I was really proud of myself to not, like, be upset with her. I was genuinely happy that she was happy, and I think the old me might’ve been a little hurt and said something I didn’t mean in the moment. So I was just happy and proud of myself, how I handled that.”

Jess: “Mine was definitely the relationships I made with the girls so quickly that are forever friendships now, and definitely the lowest point was probably realizing I wasn’t gonna get proposed to.”

AD: “I think mine was a steady right. I don’t think I had peaks and really deep valleys. I think that was life, and I experienced it the way I was supposed to experience it.”

  • 'Love Is Blind' Heads to the Queen City for Season 6

'Love Is Blind' Heads to the Queen City for Season 6

    [ad_1]

Love Is Blind is coming to us with season 6 from a brand new city. But who is going to be there, what city are we going to, and will the show fix what happened with season 5? There’s a lot Netflix can do to make this show better than it was before.

Love Is Blind season 6 is bringing hopeful singles together to find love in Charlotte, North Carolina. Setting the new season in the Queen City brings a number of different jobs into the mix (which is always fun to see with each new city), and we’re going to have a lot to work through before we can enjoy this latest season. Here’s what we know about season 6 and everyone looking for love this season!

Who is joining us in Charlotte?

There are 30 singles heading into the pods with the hope of finding their match. We know from the previous seasons that that doesn’t always mean that they’ll find their love (or be featured as a couple on the show). So while we’re starting with 30 singles, we’ll probably end up with around 10 people when it comes to the honeymoon stage, living together, and making it to the altar.

As someone who went to school in the Charlotte area, I am fascinated by this list of singles and I will be tuning into season 6 to see if I know any of them. Here’s the full list of singles for Love Is Blind season 6:

    • Alejandra – 28, Financial Consultant
    • Amber – 31, Medical Device Sales
    • Amber Desiree “AD” – 33, Real Estate Broker
    • Amy – 28, E-Commerce Specialist
    • Amy C. – 34, PR Director
    • Ariel – 32, Mortgage Broker
    • Ashley – 32, Nurse Practitioner
    • Austin – 27, Software Sales
    • Ben – 34, Cloud Solutions Architect
    • Brittany – 25, Senior Client Partner
    • Chelsea – 31, Flight Attendant & Event Planner
    • Clay – 31, Enterprise Sales & Entrepreneur
    • Danielle – 30, Corporate Comms
    • Danette – 33, Flight Attendant
    • Deion – 27, Software Sales
    • Drake – 32, Video Producer
    • Jamal – 32, Store Director
    • Jeramey – 32, Intralogistics
    • Jessica – 29, Executive Assistant
    • Jimmy – 28, Software Sales
    • Johnny – 28, Account Executive
    • Kenneth – 26, Middle School Principal
    • Laura – 34, Account Director
    • Mackenzie – 25, Makeup Artist
    • Matthew – 37, Senior Financial Advisor
    • Nolan – 31, Management Consultant
    • Sarah Ann – 30, Customer Support Manager
    • Sunni – 34, Business Analyst
    • Trevor – 31, Project Manager
    • Vince – 35, Lawyer

What to expect from season 6

Season 5 was a bit of a mess. With allegations leveled against the production, couples fighting on air, and only a few making it to the altar (who probably shouldn’t have), Love Is Blind has a lot of work to do in this next season to make things right.

Season 6 is described as follows: “The hit reality series is back for a sixth season, following a new set of singles from Charlotte, North Carolina — all ready to cut through the static of modern dating and forge authentic relationships, sight unseen. This season, the singles form deep and immediate connections, setting the stage for an unexpected journey full of twists, turns, and shocking revelations that will test each relationship well after the participants leave the pods for the real world.”

    ________________

Love Is Blind season 6 is set to premiere on Netflix this Valentine’s Day, with the first six episodes dropping on February 14. We’ll see episodes 7-9 on February 21 and episodes 10-11 on February 28, with the show wrapping up on March 6.

‘Love is Blind’ contestant sues Netflix over trauma, calls ex-fiancé ‘walking red flag’ – National | Globalnews.ca

    [ad_1]

After a “traumatic experience” on Love Is Blind, one of the show’s contestants has sued Netflix for allegedly inflicting intentional emotional distress and violating a slew of labour codes.

Renee Poche filed the lawsuit against Netflix and the Love Is Blind production company Delirium TV on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She was filmed as a contestant on Season 5 of the hit reality TV show, though her full storyline did not appear in the final cut.

According to the lawsuit, which was obtained by Deadline, Poche is suing for “unlawful employment practices,” “unfair competition” and “intentional infliction of emotional distress.” Poche claimed she was “forced” to spend time with her “emotionally abusive” fiancé, whom she was paired with during the show — and who was apparently addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Poche’s lawsuit is not the first to hit Love Is Blind, the show that encourages couples to find love without ever seeing each other. In October 2023, contestant Tran Dang sued the production over claims of sexual assault, false imprisonment and negligence. (Dang sued Delirium and Kinetic Content, but not Netflix.) In 2022, the reality show was sued over “inhumane working conditions” that allegedly saw contestants forced to work 20-hour days while being denied adequate water and food, and instead being plied with alcohol.

    Story continues below advertisement

Variety, which was first to report about the new lawsuit, said Love Is Blind production staff confiscated Poche’s phone, passport and driver’s licence on her first night. In her legal filing, Poche said she was locked in her hotel room and was unable to leave without a cast wrangler by her side.

During filming, Poche, a Texas-based veterinarian, eventually hit it off with contestant Carter Wall.

In the lawsuit, Poche describes Wall as a “walking red flag.” She said Wall displayed “erratic and alarming behavior,” “emotional instability” and was addicted to amphetamines and alcohol. In an interview with Variety, Poche additionally described Wall as “broke, jobless, unhoused, violent” and said he was abusive on and off camera.

    Story continues below advertisement

Poche said she expressed her concerns about Wall to the production team but was still forced to spend time with him, sometimes alone. Poche and Wall were made to continue their engagement throughout the production, her lawsuit alleges.

Sent to your email, every day.

Poche said she was “led to believe that participants were selected based on compatibility and marriage potential and screened with background checks and psychological examinations.”

She said was “utterly terrified” of Wall but was made to continue their engagement during the show or face legal consequences.

“Wall regularly berated Poche, stole from the set or places they visited, and solicited others to buy painkillers and amphetamines for him,” the lawsuit claims. “Wall was emotionally abusive on and off camera, lied malignantly, and heavily abused drugs and alcohol.

    Story continues below advertisement

“In Houston, production staff warned Poche to ensure Wall had no access to firearms or other weapons because they were concerned he would hurt himself, her, or others.”

Poche insisted production behind Love Is Blind was “well aware of Wall’s mental instability,” and cited an instance when a camera operator reportedly quit their job after they were physically threatened by Wall.

Poche ended her relationship with Wall after filming concluded.

So far, Netflix and Delirium have not publicly commented on Poche’s lawsuit.

“My experience on Love is Blind was traumatic,” Poche said in a statement. “I felt like a prisoner and had no support when I let Delirium know that I didn’t feel safe.

“I tried to deal with these emotions over time and eventually felt like I needed to share what had happened. I felt it was only right to let others know the truth of what all of the castmates had to endure.”

Poche, like many, said she was recruited to appear on Love Is Blind through Instagram. After a prolonged interview period, Poche joined a group of 15 men and 15 women and began filming in April 2022 in Los Angeles.

Delirium sues Poche for $5.3 million

Poche’s lawsuit was filed as part of a request to nullify her contract with the show — and came after Delirium legally pursued her first.

    Story continues below advertisement

When the filming of Love Is Blind Season 5 concluded, Poche made some public comments criticizing the show. As a result, Delirium argued Poche had violated an existing nondisclosure agreement (NDA) and initiated private arbitration against her to the tune of US$4 million (about C$5.3 million).

According to the legal complaint, Poche made only US$8,000 (nearly C$10,660) from her stint on Love Is Blind.

The legal claim by Poche aims to clear her of “all forms of liability.”

Poche filed her lawsuit through Hollywood lawyers Bryan Freedman and Mark Geragos, who have recently been advocating for improved reality TV conditions and contracts. The lawyers are currently working with Real Housewives TV personality Bethenny Frankel to investigate the treatment of reality stars.

    Story continues below advertisement

“These so-called reality TV contracts are, in reality, illegal,” Freedman told Variety. “They are designed for an illegal purpose and are void as a matter of law. We have hundreds of clients who are ready to assert their claims.

“Renee’s contract protects Delirium and Netflix from liability for future intentional misconduct and includes ruinous penalties in the millions of dollars for participants who dare to speak out about the unsafe working conditions on set.

“It is, in sum, a license to wreak emotional and financial havoc all while profiting for an eternity.”

Freedman and Geragos have said a “day of reckoning” for reality TV may soon be coming.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.

The “Love Is Blind” season five reunion aired on Netflix on Oct. 15, revealing the status of every couple you’re curious about, as well as the backstory behind some of the show’s excessive drama. And the “Love Is Blind” reunion outfits didn’t disappoint, from Lydia Velez Gonzalez‘s plunging velvet gown that emitted confidence and sophistication to Taylor Rue’s golden corset halter dress.

Stacy Snyder, who did end up choosing a wedding dress for her nuptials to Izzy Zapata, although their relationship didn’t work out in the end, picked a burgundy velvet cutout number from Bronx and Banco, which featured a giant ab window and thigh-high slit that drew attention to her hip cleavage. Needless to say, the design combined numerous trends, and she accessorized with chunky jewelry from Alexis Bittar. Even host Vanessa Lachey made a fierce statement in a fuchsia Amanda Uprichard gown replete with a wavy “puzzle” effect neckline. We’re used to seeing Lachey in plenty of striking looks during season milestones, but this outfit stands out from her season five wardrobe.

There were also some revenge dress moments worth noting. Aaliyah Cosby, who unwittingly found herself in a love triangle with Uche Okoroha and Gonzalez, made quite the statement at the reunion in a strapless champagne gown with a hip-high slit. Rue’s aforementioned golden corset halter dress also turned heads and perfectly complemented her full face of makeup — a strong visual response to JP’s makeup-shaming comments.

Ahead, you can get details about all of the dresses that are still available to shop, then learn more about how the cast chooses their engagement rings and wedding dresses on the Netflix hit series.

  • Lydia Dishes On The Status Of Her Friendship With ‘Love Is Blind’ Co-Star Aaliyah

Lydia Dishes On The Status Of Her Friendship With ‘Love Is Blind’ Co-Star Aaliyah

    [ad_1]

There are “Love Is Blind” Season 5 spoilers below.

“Love is Blind” Season 5 cast member Lydia Velez Gonzalez has opened up about the status of her friendship with former cast mate Aaliyah Cosby after the two were involved in somewhat of a love triangle on the Netflix dating show.

Velez Gonzalez told People in an article published Saturday that the “ship has sailed” on any chance of the two continuing a friendship in the future.

“There’s a lot of hurt there. As you guys all witnessed, she formed her own conclusions even before giving me the chance to really experience myself after the cameras were gone,” she said.

The reality TV star then said that she has never spoken poorly of her former cast mate but can’t say the same about Cosby, who, as she suggested, has openly spoken negatively about her.

“So I wish her the best. She seems to be thriving. We are not friends anymore,” Velez Gonzalez said.

During Episode 3 of the current season, another cast member, Uche Okoroha, revealed that he had a relationship with Velez Gonzalez before coming on the show.

But this caused some conflict on the show as the contestants, who initially speak to each other through a wall in rooms called “pods,” are supposed to be strangers.

Furthermore, Okoroha had developed a strong romantic bond with Cosby in the pods, while Cosby and Velez Gonzalez were simultaneously developing a friendship.

Okoroha and Velez Gonzalez had kept their past connection a secret from their fellow cast members until Episode 3 due to an agreement they made with show producers during filming once they were made aware of the pair’s past fling.

Cosby had left the experiment before Okoroha had the chance to propose to her in the pods. Couples who get engaged in the pods meet face-to-face and spend time together before they eventually decide whether to marry at the altar on their wedding day.

Cosby was later filmed explaining to Okoroha that a major reason why she left the show was because Velez Gonzalez had told her details about her past romance with Okoroha that she didn’t want to know. She said that her conversations with Velez Gonzalez made her question the motives of her then-friend and Okoroha.

Okoroha and Cosby have since ended their relationship.

She told “Love is Blind” alum Cameron Hamilton on his “Hanging with the Hamiltons” podcast last week that she didn’t believe Okorha was physically attracted to her.

The reunion episode of “Love is Blind” is slated to hit the streaming service on Sunday.

Lydia’s “Nice Girl” Act on “LIB” Reminded Me Villains Are Better Where You Can See Them

    [ad_1]

There have been numerous gasp-worthy moments in the latest season of “Love Is Blind.” But from JP mocking Taylor’s makeup and Johnie making a grand entrance with Chris in tow to Stacy’s countless euphemisms for a golf stick, there was not a single moment that came close to the shock and horror that came over me when Uche admitted to Aaliyah that he had a romantic history with another contestant on the show and uttered the words: “It’s Lydia,” aka Aaliyah’s closest friend.

To sum up the Uche, Aaliyah, and Lydia drama, it’s revealed in episode three that Uche and Lydia had dated before both coming on “Love Is Blind” season five. They reveal their relationship spanned several months, and Lydia says they slept together only a few weeks before coming on the show. Lydia recognizes Uche’s voice on their first pod date, and after quite a bit of prodding, he remembers hers as well. However, they decide not to continue on with one another, keeping their history secret from the other contestants. Their decision was supposedly made to stick to the “Love Is Blind” experiment, which requires contestants to not know their potential love interest’s appearance and, instead, only fall in love emotionally.

When Uche finally reveals all to Aaliyah, she is blindsided, to say the least. She and Lydia had met on the show and grown close, seemingly spending most of their time outside of the pods together, and she’s understandably horrified to learn her closest friend is her current partner’s ex. She has been confiding in Lydia about Uche, crying on her shoulder and taking her advice, all while Lydia withheld this secret. Making matters worst, Uche makes this revelation after previously chastising and distancing himself from Aaliyah after she got honest and vulnerable about her previous infidelity with an ex. Why be so harsh when you know you’re withholding your own major secret?

Uche makes this revelation after previously chastising and distancing himself from Aaliyah after she got honest and vulnerable about her previous infidelity with an ex. Why be so harsh when you know you’re withholding your own major secret?

Uche is equally — if not more — responsible for the lies that caused Aaliyah’s heartbreak in this situation. But here, we will focus on Lydia’s role, and why she perfectly represents the danger of the “nice girl” archetype.

When Lydia and Uche both find themselves on “Love Is Blind,” she suggests that they try things from scratch again, asking, “Do you want to start at zero?” and “You don’t think it’s even worth it to get to know each other more?” suggesting there were still feelings on her side. But Uche decides this wouldn’t be fitting for the experiment, and at some point, it’s presumed they decide to keep their history private. This is a decision they made, and while I’m not sure I would have done the same, I can see their reasoning for it. They wanted the other contestants to have a blank slate with one another and not be influenced by this prior relationship.

I take issue with Lydia pursuing a friendship with Aaliyah, however. Lydia seems to actively seek out Aaliyah. She is always by her side — the one to wipe her tears and give her words of encouragement. When Uche harshly dismisses Aaliyah for her previous infidelity, she’s the one to hold her as she sobs and tells Aaliyah how much she is reminded of herself and her past relationship. Rewatching these scenes, I feel nauseous that Lydia almost dropped in Easter eggs for the viewers. On top of that, production crudely chose a song called “I Got a Secret” to play in the background.

I can’t understand how Lydia could, in good conscience, hold Aaliyah’s hand throughout her issues with Uche without revealing her history with him. How can you offer all of this advice and encouragement knowing the lie that you’re carrying? She must have known that the secret would be revealed at some point. If it wasn’t revealed in the pods, it would be later when Aaliyah met Uche’s friends or when the show eventually hit Netflix. Why did Lydia pursue a friendship with Aaliyah? They say that you should keep friends close and enemies closer, and it seems that Lydia did exactly that. She became Aaliyah’s confidante for all things related to Uche, a position of power I believe she relished.

If I were Lydia, I would’ve kept my distance from Aaliyah instead of falsely creating a narrative that we’re “sisters,” as Aaliyah describes them in episode four. Take Stacy, for example. When she realized she and Johnie were both dating Izzy, she decided to stay away from Johnie and not discuss her situation with her. If Lydia had kept away from Aaliyah, I’d find it easier to overcome this deception.

    Netflix

When the truth is revealed, Lydia manages to make herself the victim of the situation and then proceeds to make Aaliyah more and more uncomfortable about it. Lydia is an intelligent woman, so she would ideally have the emotional maturity to recognize that Aaliyah wouldn’t want to hear about how Uche’s dog and friends all loved her and all the other personal details she knows because they were together previously. She essentially twisted the knife she stuck in Aaliyah’s back and then blamed Aaliyah for not enjoying the pain.

Lydia essentially twisted the knife she stuck in Aaliyah’s back and then blamed Aaliyah for not enjoying the pain.

A lot of reality television revolves around villains, so we’ll find them in almost every season of “Love Is Blind.” In season four, Irina and Micah are the villains of the season. This occurred mostly in the pods when the female contestants gathered. They would be seen keeping their distance, eavesdropping on gossip, and occasionally mocking others, and while this behavior was undoubtedly petty and childish, at least it was done in the open. Irina and Micah didn’t fake friendships with other contestants, particularly those pursuing the same partners as they were. Perhaps they didn’t like the other contestants or saw them as threats, so they kept their distance and engaged in mean behavior. All villainous, yes — but at least they were transparent.

Lydia plays on the “nice girl,” where she wants nothing more than everyone around her to be happy and claims she’s a very honest and open person. But her actions on “Love Is Blind” prove she isn’t that type of person at all when it counts. Where is this transparency and loyalty when it comes to the people she chooses to befriend?

    Netflix

There is much to be said about obvious villains, but at least you know where they stand. I’ve had people who smiled to my face and then said awful things behind my back. I’ve had a close friend pursue someone I was romantically involved with and then claim I was paranoid for thinking anything nefarious was occurring. I’ve also had people who clearly stated from the start that I wasn’t their type of person, or that we had nothing in common. While the latter felt more difficult and hurtful in the moment, I am grateful for it now. I am relieved they could be transparent about their intentions rather than lulling me into a false sense of security and switching up on me when I’m most vulnerable — a betrayal that is far more hurtful in the end.

It’s easy to villainize contestants who make their feelings known and perhaps isolate themselves from other contestants and opt for the easier, smiling figures who become everyone’s best friend. But in shows where they’re essentially competing with each other, some without their knowledge of this, we should applaud those who keep their cards on the table.

Ultimately, it goes back to the age-old adage about reality TV: contestants aren’t there to make friends — they’re there to win. If that’s the case, so be it. But don’t play nice and fake friendships along the way, and then cry over the knife you stabbed in someone else’s back.

  • Everything to Know About the Wedding Dresses on “Love Is Blind”

Everything to Know About the Wedding Dresses on “Love Is Blind”

    [ad_1]

The wedding episodes of “Love Is Blind” are always filled with drama, but before the couples say “I do” — or, err, “I do not” — we’re treated to scenes of everyone getting ready. As the maybe-brides-to-be slip into their gorgeous gowns, we often wonder about all the details that go on behind the scenes. Do the “Love Is Blind” contestants have to pay for their own wedding dresses? How much say do they have in what they get to wear?

Of course, we’re not totally in the dark when it comes to the clothing on the show. In every season of “Love Is Blind,” the women gather at a bridal shop and try on wedding dresses in front of each other. Some come out of the dressing room and claim they’ve found the one, while others end up switching things up prior to walking down the aisle (for example, season four’s Tiffany Pennywell did not end up wearing her original pick).

We’ve also seen “Love Is Blind” contestants arrive at their weddings in eerily similar designs, making us wonder if there’s a limit to what they can wear. In season three, Zanab Jaffrey and Nancy Rodriguez both chose West gowns from Hayley Paige, although details such as the necklines were slightly different.

We know that production pays for the “Love Is Blind” engagement rings (unless someone brings their own), and according to Kinetic Content, which produces the series, the contestants are able to choose from dozens of options before popping the question. So, is the process similar when it comes to the wedding gowns from the Netflix hit? Well, yes and no.

Here’s everything to know about the “Love Is Blind” wedding dresses.

Where do the “Love Is Blind” Wedding Dresses Come From?

Each season, the “Love Is Blind” contestants can be seen trying on a selection of dresses from local bridal shops. In season one, the women chose their gowns from CTO Bridal in Atlanta. In season two, most contestants got their dresses from Chicago’s Genevieve’s Bridal Couture, save for Deepti, who wore a traditional lehenga from Studio East6. A&Bé Bridal Shop‘s Dallas and Seattle locations provided the wedding dresses for seasons three and four, respectively, and according to a representative from Kinetic Content, “Love Is Blind” season five’s wedding dresses came from Brickhouse Bridal in Houston.

Are the “Love Is Blind” Wedding Dresses Different or All the Same?

While some contestants may opt for similar details — beading, puff sleeves, a sleek sheath design, etc. — the wedding dresses on “Love Is Blind” are not the same. The women on the show have worn designs from a variety of different brands, including Wtoo, Made With Love Bridal, Calla Blanche, Hayley Paige, Alyssa Kristin, and Martina Liana.

Can the “Love Is Blind” Contestants Choose Their Wedding Dress Designer?

The “Love Is Blind” contestants can choose their wedding dress designer — but there are some limits. On TikTok, A&Bé shed some light on the process, explaining that many of the dresses worn by contestants were off-the-rack samples, although some designers did allow them to pull stock options. Some key factors that come into play are if that bridal shop stocks a particular brand or designer and the turnaround time. According to A&Bé, everything had to happen “in about a week,” including alterations, which means there wasn’t a lot of time to be too picky.

Still, just because there are some constraints in the process doesn’t mean the ladies don’t love what they wear. In additional videos, A&Bé shared that for season four, Bliss Poureetezadi gave them some inspiration for what she was looking for ahead of time, while Micah Lussier had her exact dress on her Pinterest board.

Are the “Love Is Blind” Wedding Dresses Paid For?

A representative from Kinetic Content tells POPSUGAR that all the dresses from “Love Is Blind” season five were paid for by production. That’s nothing new — they’ve been paying for the weddings and wedding attire since the beginning of the show. While season one’s Amber Pike did initially express concern about the cost of her gown’s alterations, she later clarified via Instagram that “the weddings were 100% paid for by the show.”

However, there is a budget. A “Love Is Blind” representative told Women’s Health, “Of course production supplies some of the basics, but because these are their real weddings, it’s up to them as to how to spend their money.” Having to divide up funds to pay for the full event may explain why some brides opt for simpler wedding dresses and why no one’s walking down the aisle in, say, Dior.

Ahead, take a look at wedding dresses from past “Love Is Blind” seasons.

    Relationship status: Maybe still together

Izzy and Stacy are another couple who get off to a rocky start since they, too, find themselves in a weird love triangle. Initially, Izzy and Johnie hit it off in the pods, though the former also strikes up a connection with Stacy (and Lydia, briefly). Both romances continue until Izzy breaks things off with Johnie — who also connected with Chris — in episode three to pursue Stacy, whom he pops the question to in the following episode. Things go smoothly on Izzy and Stacy’s romantic couples trip and back home in Houston, though they have a spat in episode seven. Then comes more drama.

When the pod squad reunites later in the episode, Johnie and Izzy sit down to clear the air, during which the latter says he heard a lot of “sketchy sh*t” about her. He accuses her of, basically, running game on him and other guys in the pods, specifically Chris, saying, “The things that you were telling me, I wasn’t the only guy you were telling.”

Prior to their argument, Stacy also states that she has an issue with Johnie, and as we see in next week’s preview, the two get into it. What this means for Izzy and Stacy’s relationship is unclear for now, but these obstacles make it hard to say they last until their wedding day.

  • Everything to Know About the Engagement Rings on “Love Is Blind”

Everything to Know About the Engagement Rings on “Love Is Blind”

    [ad_1]

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s “Love Is Blind,” then you may be curious about the engagement rings, which are either chosen on set or brought in (Kyle Abrams presented his mom’s ring to Shaina Hurley during season two, for example).

Knowing that on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” the jewelry is entirely provided by Neil Lane, you have to wonder how much shopping the men on “LIB” could possibly be getting done outside of the pods while they’re holed up from the outside world.

What’s more, if you’re looking closely, you may notice similarities in some of the women’s engagement rings. In fact, in season one, it appeared Lauren Speed, Jessica Batten, and Amber Pike wore identical rings following their proposals.

According to Netflix, all the men are presented with dozens of rings to choose from, unless they brought their own. “Whatever they choose, we pay for. Whatever we pay for, they keep, regardless of engagement ending,” a representative told POPSUGAR. And even though you might recognize similar elements on some designs — like diamond carat size, band embellishment, and setting — no two styles are exactly the same.

Netflix even shared that in season two, the men proposing discussed their choices together, so the rings felt unique to each recipient. Of course, there are fans who have tweeted that they believe the women should be able to choose their preferred style before heading into the pods. That became a major issue in season two, when Mallory Zapata ended up with a silver ring picked by Salvador Perez, instead of her preferred choice of gold. Perhaps the producers will find a way for both contestants to join the ring-selection process in future seasons.

In the meantime, keep reading for everything to know about the “Love Is Blind” engagement rings, including the similarities, the payment, and the process by which they’re chosen.

    [ad_1]

“Love is Blind” alum Jessica Batten is now a mom.

On Saturday, the Netflix star and her husband, Benjamin McGrath, announced on Instagram that they have welcomed their first child together.

“Meet Dax,” the reality actor captioned the carousel of photos of her family with the adorable newborn. She also wrote, “June 9, 2023,” revealing the date her baby boy was born.

Baby Dax marks the couple’s first child together. Batten and McGrath also share two children from his previous relationship: daughter Poppy, 7, and son Ethan, 6.

Back in October 2021, just a month after the couple got engaged, Batten opened up about being a stepmom to McGrath’s children.

“It’s been awesome and three for the price of one for me,” Batten told People. “I didn’t know this would be in my future, but I couldn’t imagine my life without them. They’re so super special to me.”

She added: “It’s a lot of sacrifice, but it’s so rewarding. After being by myself for so long, or just me and [my dog] Payton, now having them, it’s just a whole different perspective.”

Batten isn’t the first “Love is Blind” alum to welcome a baby. In April, Season 3 star Bartise Bowden announced on Instagram that he welcomed his first child.

“Might’ve been the villain on tv, but I’m gonna be the hero for him. Instagram, meet my little man,” the 27-year-old, wrote alongside a series of snapshots and videos introducing his son to the world.

“Love Is Blind”‘ star Micah Lussier says she’s had time to mature since leaving the alter in tears during her and Paul Peden’s very emotional and upsetting wedding day on the season 4 finale.

While speaking with ET Canada’s Keshia Chanté about the shocking ending to her season, where she and Peden ended their relationship moments before saying yes at the altar, Lussier shared that she wants fans to know she’s had “many moments of growth and evolution.”

Speaking of her current relationship with her ex, Lussier noted that they “both needed time to figure things out, grow as people, and potentially grow together as a couple.”

“I think we both just really needed healing at that time,” she continued, adding that, “as for us now, I guess stay tuned.”

“You know, things are still TBD,” she teased.

Lussier went on to explain why she doesn’t regret anything she did.

“I think I was true to myself,” she said. “Whether that comes off as a great version or not, I know who I am as a person.”

She added that she “stands by [her] decisions,” assuring she was all-in with Paul and “would choose [him] a million times over.”

“I don’t regret anything about him, and I don’t regret putting myself out there at all.”

During season 4, there’s a moment where Lussier appears to be actively trying to tempt co-star Kwame Appiah. When asked if she’s nervous heading into the “Love Is Blind: The Live Reunion”, given that Kwame’s now-wife, Chelsea Griffin, has watched the scene, Lussier candidly replied “yeah.”

“I mean, I’m sure there’s going to be lots of opinions,” she said. “I know what was going on in the moment, and it wasn’t really that the minute I chose Paul and the Pods I stood by that I had absolutely zero interest in Kwame, and that was the truth from when I saw him all the way through their marriage.”

“I understand that maybe how I talk to someone seems flirty or like I’m trying to get something out,” she further explained, “[But], I’m really not.”

And it seems Kwame and Chelsea’s decision was indeed a good one, despite their compromising issues.

“We’re totally learning to compromise more,” Griffin told Chanté while Appiah added that they’re “working on it.”

“I think married life is definitely a journey. It’s a lot of work, and it definitely puts a lot of perspective on the growth that you need to have on yourself,” Appiah said.

“I think we’re in a great spot. I really, really love Seattle,” he continued, elaborating: “It’s growing on me a lot. I’m currently in my favourite apartment that I’ve ever lived in anywhere ever.”

‘Love Is Blind’ Star Bartise Bowden Welcomes First Baby

    [ad_1]

Bartise Bowden shocked “Love Is Blind” and “Perfect Match” fans after recently announcing that he became a first-time father.

On Friday, the reality star shared the big news on Instagram that he has welcomed a baby boy.

“Might’ve been the villain on tv, but I’m gonna be the hero for him,” the 27-year-old wrote on social media, alongside a series of snapshots and videos of his son.

“Instagram, meet my little man #bigfella,” he added.

In one clip, the father and son pair are seen watching golf on TV. “Ready to see your first ever Tiger Woods golf show? Look at that,” Bowden said, narrating for his infant as Woods appeared on their TV screen. “Let’s see if he watches. I used to do this with my dad… there it goes, there it goes, there goes Tiger!”

The former dating show contestant, who virally turned down his fiancée Nancy Rodriguez at the altar on Season 3 of the Netflix show, did not reveal the mother of his child.

Netflix’s “Love is Blind” sees contestants participate in a dating experience to test whether love can blossom between two people who bond emotionally in the “pods” without ever initially seeing one another.

Calling himself the “villain” in his latest post isn’t the first time Bowden has reflected on his controversial arc on the hit show.

The Netflix star doubled down on addressing his playboy persona on the series, admitting he can “only grow from it” during a Q&A for the show in November.

When asked if he considered himself the “villain” of the season, he replied at the time: “Absolutely, 100%, definitely the villain.”

In Season 3, Bowden dated both Nancy Rodriguez, 33, and Raven Ross, 30, in the pods. Ultimately, he chose to propose to Nancy over Raven, who wound up accepting Sikiru “SK” Alagbada’s proposal.

Bowden came under fire on social media for many tactless faux pas throughout his time on the show, including admitting to Rodriguez that he found Ross to be a “smoke show” while being engaged to her.

“I looked arrogant. I looked insensitive. I looked selfish. It is what it is. I can only learn from it. I can only grow from it,” Bowden said during the Q&A. “Watching it back was a blessing to me because when I was going through it, I didn’t have any of those feelings and now I do. Embarrassed and ashamed.”

In February, the reality star also appeared in another Netflix dating show, “Perfect Match,” where reality stars from the streamer’s other top dating shows came together for a “do-over” to finally find love. After dating multiple women, he zeroed in on Izzy Fairthorne, picking her as his match for the finale.

Just a month after the show aired, People reported that the love birds have since called it quits.

Season 4 of “Love is Blind” is streaming now on Netflix. The season finale is set to drop Friday.
