  • Powerball jackpot soars to $950 million after no winner in Wednesday’s drawing

    [ad_1]

The Powerball jackpot has leaped to $1.10 billion after there were no big grand prize winners in Saturday’s drawing.

Wednesday’s winning numbers are 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 with a red Powerball of 17 and a PowerPlay multiplier of 3. That resulted in three $2 million winners in Colorado, Indiana and New Hampshire and nine $1 million winners in Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pensilvania and 4 in California.

The $1.10 billion jackpot is for an annuity option, paid over 30 years. Winners almost always opt for the lump-sum cash prize, which for Powerball would be $498.4 million cash.

This is the seventh Powerball jackpot to hit the $1-billion mark in the lottery’s 33-year history.

The prize is subject to taxes, which includes an automatic withholding tax of 24% levied against the winnings, and another 13% in federal taxes when you file your 2025 return.

There are also state taxes in some jurisdictions, which range from 2.9% to 10.9% depending on the state you live in. But if you’re lucky enough to live in California, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington or Wyoming, you won’t pay taxes on your winnings.

The next Powerball drawing is on Monday, Sep. 1, 2025.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, 2025, a stretch of 38 consecutive drawings without anyone matching the game’s six numbers. Before that, the jackpot was hit eleven times, however, the winnings were all under $600 million.

Saturday’s $1.10 billion prize is significant but still doesn’t crack the top 10 of the largest lottery jackpots in the U.S. when including Mega Millions.

The largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history stands at $2.04 billion and was won by a single Powerball ticket in California on Nov. 7, 2022. The winner, Edwin Castro, came forward in early 2023 after months of speculation.

The reason for the jackpot drought is simple: The odds of winning the top prize are miserable, at 1 in 292.2 million. It’s those odds that create the large jackpots that are designed to attract attention and drive up sales.

Powerball is played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. EST at the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee.

“The lesson didn’t really go according to plan.” Math professor Nicholas Kapoor bought a Powerball ticket to demonstrate how improbable it is to win the lottery – and then he won $100,000. Here’s what he wants you to know about playing the Powerball.

  • Powerball jackpot winning numbers announced for estimated $850 million grand prize

    [ad_1]

    The winning numbers for an estimated $850 million Powerball jackpot — the game’s sixth-largest prize ever — are 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 with a Powerball of 25.

Wednesday’s jackpot has an estimated cash value of $383.7 million, Powerball said

It was not immediately known if there were any winners of Wednesday night’s jackpot.

“Powerball ticket sales have doubled in the past week, as more players join the fun with a $2 ticket, while also giving back to good causes in their communities,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO.

There were no winning tickets sold for Monday night’s $750 million grand prize, Powerball’s 10th largest when it was up for grabs.

A single jackpot winner would have the choice of taking a lump sum payment estimated at $383.7 million (before taxes) or opting for a payout via an annuity, which would consist of one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, when a single ticket in California claimed a $204.5 million jackpot with a cash value of $91.6 million.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball. Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m. ET.

In 2022, a single ticket sold in Altadena, California, claimed a $2.04 billion jackpot, the largest in both Powerball and lottery history. The first Powerball drawing was in 1992.

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Wednesday’s winning numbers are 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 with a red Powerball of 25 and a PowerPlay multiplier of 4. That resulted in three $1 million winners in Arizona, New York and Virginia and three $2 million winners in Mississippi, Ohio and Virginia.

The $950 million jackpot is for an annuity option, paid over 30 years. Winners almost always opt for the lump-sum cash prize, which for Powerball would be $428.9 million cash.

The prize is subject to taxes, which includes an automatic withholding tax of 24% levied against the winnings, and another 13% in federal taxes when you file your 2025 return.

Here are the winning numbers in order: 16, 19, 34, 37, 64 and 22, with a PowerPlay multiplier of 3x.

The $815 million jackpot has an annuity option, which is paid over 30 years. The cash option through Mega Millions holds a value of $367.9 million.

Despite no one claiming the primary jackpot, there were two notable winners from Monday’s drawing, $1 million tickets sold in Georgia and Texas.

Next drawing is taking place Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, 2025. If there is no winner on Wednesday, the next drawing will take place Saturday, Aug. 30.

Wednesday’s $815 million prize is significant but doesn’t come near the top 10 of largest jackpots in the U.S.

HERE TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS IS DOCTOR VARSHA RADHAKRISHNAN FROM TUFTS MEDICAL CENTER. GOOD TO SEE YOU, DOCTOR. GOOD TO SEE IT. YOU KNOW, THAT’S A LOT OF MONEY ON THE LINE, RIGHT? BUT THE ODDS OF WINNING IF WE’RE BEING REAL OF THE GRAND PRIZE IS 1 IN 292,000,000. SO, IN YOUR VIEW, WHAT DRAWS PEOPLE TO GAMES LIKE THIS? WELL, PEOPLE ARE DRAWN TO GAMES LIKE THIS, ESPECIALLY WITH THAT ANTICIPATION, THE EXCITEMENT THAT WHAT IF FEELING WHAT IF I’M THAT ONE PERSON WHO WINS? EVEN IF THE ODDS OF WINNING ARE ASTRONOMICALLY LOW. BUT GAMES LIKE POWERBALL, THEY ACTUALLY ACTIVATE OUR BRAIN’S REWARD PATHWAY THROUGH THROUGH ACTIVATION OF A NEUROTRANSMITTER CALLED DOPAMINE. SO THAT’S ACTUALLY PART OF OUR PLEASURE AND REWARD SYSTEM. AND SO I THINK IT REINFORCES THINGS LIKE GAMBLING THAT THAT ADDICTION THAT CAN COME UP SOMETIMES. YOU KNOW, A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN GAMBLE FROM TIME TO TIME WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. BUT SOME PEOPLE DO STRUGGLE. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SIGNS THAT CERTAIN BEHAVIOR MAYBE HAS CROSSED INTO A PROBLEM TERRITORY? YEAH, AND I KIND OF ALLUDED TO IT, BUT WHEN DOES IT BECOME MORE OF AN ENJOYABLE ACTIVITY VERSUS ADDICTION? AND SO WARNING SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS REALLY ARE, ARE MORE RELATED TO THAT NEED OR DESIRE TO INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT YOU’RE EXPENDING. THAT FEELING OF IRRITABILITY OR RESTLESSNESS WHEN CUTTING BACK, BEING UNABLE TO STOP DESPITE WANTING TO CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT GAMBLING, CHASING LOSSES, OR EVEN LYING ABOUT GAMBLING SO THAT WHEN THEY’RE STARTING TO, YOU KNOW, HAVE IMPACTS ON RELATIONSHIPS OR WORK, THAT’S WHEN WHEN THOSE BEHAVIORS BECOME VERY CONCERNING. YEAH, THAT’S THE SIGNS THERE. OKAY. SO THERE ARE SOME BENEFITS THOUGH TO THROWING YOUR HAT IN THE RING FROM TIME TO TIME. OH YEAH. THERE’S THERE’S ALWAYS THAT THAT THOUGHT IN THE BACK OF OUR MIND. IT’S IT’S ALSO FUN. OF COURSE IT CAN BE A THRILLING FEELING. PARTICIPATION. AND IN SOME OF THESE THESE TYPES OF GAMES CAN BRING THAT SENSE OF EXCITEMENT AND HOPE. ALSO JOINING SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES OTHER FOLKS AT WORK, FOR EXAMPLE, OR FRIENDS, FAMILY, IT CAN BE A SOCIAL ACTIVITY TOO. YEAH, I KNOW THERE’S A POOL GOING AROUND HERE IN THE NEWSROOM, SO IT CAN BE, BUT YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO BE MINDFUL OF THOSE SIGNS YOU MENTIONED. DOCTOR RADHAKRISHNAN, WE

  • Winning numbers announced for estimated $700 million Powerball jackpot

    [ad_1]

The winning numbers for one of the largest Powerball jackpots this year were announced Saturday night. They were 11, 14, 34, 47, 51, with a Powerball of 18.

It was not immediately announced if any winning jackpot tickets were sold.

The Powerball jackpot soared to an estimated $700 million, making it the eleventh-largest jackpot in Powerball game history. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $316 million, Powerball said.

There was no winner in Monday or Wednesday night’s drawings.

A single winner Saturday would have the choice of taking a lump sum payment of $316 million before taxes, or going with the $700 million annuity option, which consists of one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% per year.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, when a single ticket in California won a $204.5 million jackpot with a cash value of $91.6 million.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 292 million, according to Powerball. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern time.

In 2022, a single ticket sold in Altadena, California, claimed a $2.04 billion jackpot, the largest in both Powerball and lottery history. The first Powerball drawing was in 1992.

Powerball tickets are $2 each. They are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Powerball jackpot reaches $750 million after no winner in August 23 drawing

    [ad_1]

The Powerball jackpot has reached $750 million after Saturday’s draw did not produce a winner.

Here are the winning numbers in order: 34, 14, 11, 47, 51 and 18, with a PowerPlay multiplier of 2x.

The $750 million jackpot has an annuity option, which is paid over 30 years. The cash option through Mega Millions holds a value of $338.6 million.

Next drawing is taking place Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.

No one has won Powerball’s jackpot since May 31, 2025. If there is no winner on Monday, the next drawing will occur on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Monday’s $750 prize is significant but doesn’t come near the top 10 of largest jackpots in the U.S.

November 2022 resulted in the record $2.04 billion jackpot, which was won in Altadena, Calif., by Edwin Castro who didn’t come forward until early 2023.

“The lesson didn’t really go according to plan.” Math professor Nicholas Kapoor bought a Powerball ticket to demonstrate how improbable it is to win the lottery – and then he won $100,000. Here’s what he wants you to know about playing the Powerball.

A man who found $20 on the ground used it to buy a $1 million winning lottery ticket

What would you do if you won the lottery?

What would you do if you won the lottery?

A North Carolina resident hit the jackpot twice: First when he found $20 on the ground outside a convenience store, and a second time when he spent the money to buy a $25 winning scratch-off lottery ticket worth $1 million.

The man, Jerry Hicks of Banner Elk, North Carolina, told the state education lottery that he used the $20 he found outside the Speedway convenience store in Boone, North Carolina, to buy an Extreme Cash scratch-off card because the type of lotto ticket he usually buys wasn’t available.

Hicks said he planned to use the winnings to retire after working for 56 years as a carpenter, as well as to help his children. He also had more immediate plans, telling the lottery, “We are going to head straight to Golden Corral and eat everything they’ve got.”

Hicks opted to take a lump sum payment of $600,000, rather than receiving the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years. After state and federal tax withholdings, his take-home winnings amount to $429,007, the lottery said.

The $1 million prize is the highest amount available to win in the Extreme Cash game, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. The odds of winning are 1 in 2,017,650.

Lucky Michigan Lottery Player Mistakes $300K Prize for a $1K Win

    [ad_1]

Recently, we told the story of two fortunate Floyd residents who won hefty jackpots from the Virginia Lottery. Now, a lucky lottery player in nearby Michigan, who initially thought she won only $1,000 was pleasantly surprised by a six-figure win.

Winner Stands in Disbelief After Hitting a $300,000 Win

This is the case of a 47-year-old Gladwin woman named Kaylynn Totten. The fortunate woman bought a ticket for the Michigan Lottery’s Top Secret Cashword Instant Game. She made the fortunate purchase at Hunters Paradise on 9359 North M 18 in Gladwin. After scratching off the ticket, the woman thought that she won $1,000.

While $1,000 isn’t a bad win for a $5 ticket, it was Totten’s lucky day as she actually won one of the top prizes from the scratch-off game. The Gladwin woman checked the ticket by scanning it with the Lottery’s mobile app. Shocked, she realized that her win wasn’t $1,000 but it was actually $300,000.

This incredible surprise saw the woman rush back to the store where she purchased the ticket, asking the clerk to scan the ticket and confirm if she indeed won a grand prize from the scratch-off game. “I am still waiting for it to hit me that I won $300,000,” exclaimed the lucky winner.

I scanned it (the ticket) on the Michigan Lottery app to double check and was in disbelief when the amount of $300,000 came up on the screen! I took the ticket back into the store and had them scan it to make sure it was real,

Kaylynn Totten, lottery winner from Michigan

The Winner Has Plans for the Hefty Jackpot Win

Recently, Totten visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her big prize. As usual, she was asked by officials if she had any plans regarding her newfound fortune. Totten said that with the lottery win, she wants to purchase a house and a car.

Initially, the lottery’s Top Secret Cashword instant game launched back in December 2023. Considering that Totten won the final grand prize from the game, no more $300,000 prizes are remaining in play. Still, Top Secret Cashword offers 34 prizes of $1,000 each.

The chances of winning any prize from the popular scratch-off game are 1 in 3.67. Since its launch in December, the game has so far awarded $29 million in prizes that vary in size. More than $7 million in prizes remain currently in play from the Top Secret Cashword instant game.
