  • Nick Dittmeier and the Sawdusters honky-tonk into Orlando’s Lil Indie’s

Nick Dittmeier & the Sawdusters are an Indiana act that’s “alt-country” primarily in the sense that they’re more real country than the pap most people believe is country music nowadays.

No goofball rap or pop corn here, just some hard twang, rock thump and touches of 1970s outlaw country. Hallelujah.

    9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, Lil Indie’s, no cover.

  • Kaleigh Baker raised one last musical glass to Orlando at Lil Indie’s – Orlando Weekly

    [ad_1]

The night appropriately included the artist raising a glass and downing a stiff drink in honor of the venue and the audience. The artist was Kaleigh Baker, the venue was the well-worn stage at Lil Indie’s and the audience was a crowd of friends, fans and loved ones.

For this would be the last Monday in Baker’s residency at the Mills 50 watering hole before she decamps to Nashville. There have been a lot of artists and musicians leaving Orlando — and Florida — of late. Whether to seek greener creative pastures or just get out from under DeSantis and co., we wish these creatives nothing but the best. But it is a brain (and guitar) drain, make no mistake.

Baker’s set was bittersweet and beautiful as always, and we hope to see her strum again (somehow) sooner rather than later.

Stiletto is one of a legion of bands Jim Leatherman has photographed at Will’s Pub

Though we don’t want to embarrass him in the fashion of a helicopter parents at a kid’s soccer game, we can’t help but rah-rah encourage you to check out Jim Leatherman’s photo exhibition opening at Lil Indie’s on Friday.

There’s really no one else like Leatherman in Orlando — or, we’d go so far as to say, in the entire state of Florida. Leatherman has seen it all and lived to shoot the tale, with a vast archive including seminal snaps of Björk, R.E.M. and Green Day.

But Leatherman is no nostalgia act. His passion for new music is on par with his love for those alt-rock greats, and you can see him down front at gigs by the likes of 0 Miles Per Hour and M.A.C.E. This exhibition focuses on snaps old and new, covering several decades’ worth of shows at Will’s Pub.

Get to the gig … we mean, gallery.

    6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, Lil Indie’s, 1036 N. Mills Ave., willspub.org, free.
