A lucky gambler turned a $10 bet into a big prize at a Las Vegas casino.

The visitor sat at a Dragon Cash slot machine Sept. 30 at Suncoast Hotel & Casino, the casino said in an Oct. 3 news release.

Then they made a bet, hit spin and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen. Then a jackpot message appeared.

Suncoast Hotel & Casino is about a 10-mile drive northwest from the Las Vegas Strip.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.

Everyone else is doing it, so now there are plans for Ellis Island Casino renovations. The off-Strip property is making plans to expand their gaming floor and install a brand new sports book area. The resort will increase the property by more than 6,400 square feet, as indicated in the planning documents submitted to Clark County.

Those planning documents indicate that Ellis Island Casino has eliminated the 2,800-square-foot microbrewery to facilitate this expansion. The forthcoming structure will be positioned much closer to the sidewalk, and it will incorporate rooftop access upon completion. Officials anticipate the project’s conclusion within eight to ten months, as reported by the Review-Journal.

The Ellis family has overseen operations at the Koval Lane site near Flamingo Road since 1967, initially as a modest enterprise, gradually expanding the casino space and acquiring the neighboring hotel over time. Their most recent venture, the Front Yard, debuted in 2019, featuring a beer garden and on-site brewing facilities.

Christina Ellis, Vice President of Development for Ellis Island Casino, stated that “This renovation gives us the opportunity to create an elevated gaming and entertainment experience while honoring our history and legacy.” The Ellis family has run this site on Koval near Flamingo as a small operation since 1967.
