Kate Moss Wore a Completely Sheer Lace Dress to Her 50th Birthday Party in Paris

When it comes to party dressing, no one does it with quite the level of finesse as Kate Moss, the ’90s supermodel who’s responsible for wearing one of the most iconic naked dresses of all time. Her 50th birthday party was never going to be an exception. For the momentous occasion, which started with lunch at Brasserie Lipp in Paris’s Saint-Germain district, Moss hosted an intimate dinner at Laurent followed by an after-party at the famed Ritz Paris. While her low-key lunch was more of a “leggings and fur coat” type of affair, according to a photo posted on the Instagram account of Brasserie Lipp chef Pascal Jounault, the evening’s lineup of activities called for a far more festive getup.

While en route to Laurent alongside her daughter Lila Moss, boyfriend Nikolai von Bismarck, and friend Haider Ackermann, the birthday girl was spotted donning a floor-length sheer dress made entirely of black lace. With it, she added a bevy of diamond jewelry, including bracelets and earrings, and a black Alexandra King cape lined with gold silk. Given the winter temperatures, she appeared to have swapped her cape for a much warmer piece of outerwear later on in the evening: a Penny Lane–esque Bob Mackie coat that makeup entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury arrived at Laurent in, according to W

Below, see both versions of Moss’s 50th-birthday outfit, the likes of which will, no doubt, serve as party style inspiration for many years to come.

  • Lace Gets a Bad Rep—27 Items That Are Single-Handedly Rewriting the Narrative

Lace Gets a Bad Rep—27 Items That Are Single-Handedly Rewriting the Narrative

Lace can either go great or terribly wrong—there’s really no in-between. With its ties to lingerie, the delicate fabric, when transitioned into the world of ready-to-wear, can stray too far in the direction of tacky instead of refined and romantic. No matter how often designers try to reel it back in, success is rarely achieved. But something to do with the material changed in the last year, resulting in a renaissance of sorts for all things lace—just in time for fall.

If you ask me, its success lies in designers finally embracing the romance and sexiness of lace and really steering clear of anything overly sleepwear-like. Pieces by labels like Saint Laurent, Alaïa, Khaite, and Beaufille are styled with pencil skirts, tailored outerwear, and sleek trousers and constructed with bold collars, velvet touches, and billowy sleeves. Bright, neon colors have been taken out of the equation, and emphasis is being placed on far more classic black and white designs that allow for easier styling and increased versatility. In other words, there are no longer any blockades in place to stop you from dipping your toe in the chic and sophisticated world of lace. For further proof, see how the fabric’s being worn to perfection on the runways and Instagram alike.

  • Trend Predicting Is My Job, But Even I Didn’t See This Grandma Trend Coming

Trend Predicting Is My Job, But Even I Didn’t See This Grandma Trend Coming

While many trends have ruled the year, one descriptor that immediately comes to mind when summing up 2022 is “see-through”. It has definitely been the moment for risk-takers: from delicate mesh knits to unlined slip skirts, skin-revealing pieces have been dominating every corner of the fashion landscape. Yet another racy trend that has recently emerged (and seemingly out of nowhere) is the return of black lace. And while lace as a trend is hardly anything new, it’s hard to ignore just how prevalent the motif has been among fashion it-girls as of late. Bella Hadid wore a lacy black dress for her birthday celebrations last month, styling it with a leather jacket and black undergarments. Her outfit showcases just how this “grandma” trend has been transformed into one of the most controversial right now: Instead of the motif playing second fiddle as a trim or overlaying piece, designers have made sheer black lace the main star, using the material for unlined dresses, blouses, and even pants.

Among the designers to give the trend a big high fashion boost include Saint Laurent and Alaia, who both have included black lacy flared pants and tops within their fall-winter runway collections. Needless to say, the buzz over black lace is only going to up from here. If you’re looking for ways to wear it IRL, I’ve included all of the best pieces on the market now, as well as some outfit inspiration below.

  • Jenna Ortega Just Wore a Sheer, Lace Dress With the Highest Slit, Like, Ever

Jenna Ortega Just Wore a Sheer, Lace Dress With the Highest Slit, Like, Ever

    [ad_1]

Jenna Ortega is taking her press tour for Netflix’s new Addams Family series Wednesday very seriously, especially when it comes to her outfits. A month after wearing a completely sheer, black lace dress to Valentino’s S/S 23 show, the Gen Z darling wore a similar, albeit even more daring sheer, lace look for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This time, though, her dress featured a sky-high slit unlike any we’ve seen before.

For the show, Ortega and her stylist Enrique Melendez chose a long-sleeve, half French lace and half opaque dress from the fashion favorite label Dion Lee and a pair of Christian Louboutin platforms. In addition to the see-through material, it also featured cutouts around the ribs and up to the actress’s hip on one side. Bold? Yes. Shockingly pretty? Also yes.

See her look for Jimmy Kimmel Live! and shop more dresses and skirts with outrageously high (and chic) slits below.
