    CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago fans are ready to face the brutal cold as the Bears face the LA Rams at Soldier Field on Sunday.

    It’s been a week full of excitement and energy across the city, even as fans get ready for the brutal cold.

    Forecast

    Fans can expect snow showers at kickoff for the game with temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits.

    ABC7 meteorologists say it will be 17 degrees at kickoff, but the wind chill will be about 8 degrees.

    The Bears are accustomed to frigid conditions, of course, but “subfreezing weather” is barely in the vocabulary of Los Angeles residents.

    It remains to be seen just how much the Rams will be affected by the cold.

    Kickoff

    Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT at Soldier Field, and the game will air on NBC.

    Staying Warm

    If you’re headed to Soldier Field to see the game, here’s what you need to know:

    -Battery-operated clothing is permitted; however, you may be subject to additional security screening.

    -Warming centers will be located at Loop Landing (behind Section 146), on the Service Level down the southwest tunnel near the Dr Pepper Patio, NW colonnade (situated on the tiled landing at the top of the stairs by Gate 31) and on the south side of the colonnades.

    -Fans may not take cardboard to sit or stand on.

    -Blankets are allowed at Soldier Field. The stadium says fans may carry them in hand or in an approved clear bag.

    The winner of Sunday’s game will go on to the NFC Championship to face the Seahawks in Seattle.

    The absolute peak of SoCal high school football rivalries took center stage this past Friday to cap off the amazing slate of electrifying games

    For the final showdown of the “In The Field” series showcasing exceptionally intense high school football rivalries throughout all of SoCal, Nike and the LA Rams deliver the best match-up yet in what is often considered the most cutthroat rivalry in the entire region: the No. 1 Ranked St. John Bosco Braves vs. the No. 7 Ranked Mater Dei Monarchs. These two nationally ranked football titans have both earned esteemed reputations not only in the locally based Trinity League but across the whole country, setting the gold standard of high school football around the Los Angeles area with a remarkable seven Open Division State Titles won between the two programs since 2016.

    The high-stakes importance of who would leave the renowned Panish Family Stadium in Bellflower as the winner of this match-up could not be understated, as crucial playoff contention hung in the balance between the two elite squads with hopes of being crowned the Trinity League Champion. Gaining the edge on the rival team here wouldn’t just garner bragging rights and a championship title, it would also further fuel the hunger to win in the upcoming postseason, as both teams would likely face each other again in the playoffs.

    This game caps off a month-long saga featuring other various iconic SoCal high school football rivalries, such as Crenshaw v. Dorsey (October 3rd), Long Beach Poly vs. Millikan (October 10th), and Roosevelt vs. Garfield (October 24th).     From dynamic heart-stopping plays full of grit, to ferocious energy roaring from the animated crowds, the tense game between St. John Bosco and Mater Dei certainly lived up to the rivalry hype. Future college and NFL prospects on both sides displayed tremendous talent, proving to the city and the rest of the nation why they are labeled as a couple of premiere high school programs in all the U.S. The young athletes laid it all out on the field that day through blood, sweat, and tears, making their families, their schools, and their city proud. The Mater Dei Monarchs emerged victorious over the St. John Bosco Braces, 36-31.

    ​The stage was perfectly set for all the schools that participated in the “In The Field” series, thanks to the passionate support of Nike, the LA Rams, and Born X Raised Clothing. With the series officially over, the next chapter for these superbly talented kids begins now in the postseason, and for some, the next level in college sports.     Matthew Stafford documentary looks at Rams quarterback’s life on and off the field

    LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles Rams won a Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford at quarterback, and they hope to get there again this season.

    As Stafford heads into his fourth season with the team, a new documentary showcases Stafford’s life on and off the field.

    “Football is not for everybody. I love the challenge. It’s not easy. It’s hard,” Stafford said in a clip from the documentary.

    The Rams are giving fans an inside look into the star quarterback’s life in a new documentary, “Mathew Stafford: Locked In.” The film explores the pressure of the playoffs last season and facing off against his former team.

    Stafford typically stays out of the spotlight, but this new documentary pulls the curtain back to let fans see his life both on and off the field as a player, husband and father.

    The film’s director, Justin Polks, says there’s an overall theme of the noise vs. quiet in this documentary. As a quarterback, Stafford is dealing with coaches in his ear, football players, plays being called but before that snap on the field, he learns to tune it out and lock in.

    “It started off with ‘let’s just show the two games in five days.’ There’s a game on a Sunday and a game on a Thursday. How do football players deal with that? How does Matthew Stafford himself deal with that?” Polks said. “And then from there it kind of took on a life of its own.

    The Rams ultimately lost to the Detroit Lions in the playoffs, but it came down to the wire and the Rams gave it their all. The film shows you the moments during the game, after the loss and how Stafford’s leadership played a role.

    Defensive lineman Aaron Donald has announced his retirement after a standout 10-year career with the Los Angeles Rams.The three-time AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year made his surprising announcement on social media Friday.The 32-year-old Donald spent his entire career with the Rams, who drafted him in the first round in 2014. He was selected for 10 Pro Bowls and eight All-Pro first teams, and he won the award as the league’s top defensive player in 2017, 2018 and 2020.Although smaller than many top defensive tackles, Donald used his extraordinary athleticism and game savvy to wreak havoc on offenses throughout his career. He was the cornerstone of every Rams defense during his career, drawing habitual double-teams away from his teammates and still racking up a franchise-record 111 sacks, third among active players.Donald reached the peak of his stardom after the Rams franchise moved from St. Louis back to Los Angeles in 2016.
