Kym Marsh has revealed the gift she left in her late dad David’s coffin when he died.

The Coronation Street star’s dad David died in January following his battle with prostate cancer.

Kym, 48, has opened up about a “running joke” her dad always had when he would come onto Morning Live – which she presents with Gethin Jones.

Speaking to The Sun, Kym said: “Every time Dad came on Morning Live, he would say to Gethin, ‘She’s still not given me that fiver.’ It was a constant running joke.

“Shortly after dad passed away, I randomly found a five pound note in my car. I don’t know if people believe in stuff like this but I don’t know how it got there. I put that in the coffin with Dad and I said, ‘There you go, Dad, I’ve given you your fiver now.’”

The actress added: “Whether you believe in it or not, it’s not wrong to take comfort from something. I found a fiver and I thought, ‘That’s my dad.’ It gives you something to hold on to and it gives you hope, all those little reminders. Or sometimes I find myself in a moment and I smile to myself about a memory.”

In March, Kym opened up about her decision to bury her late son Archie alongside her father. Kym sadly lost her son in 2009, after he was born prematurely.

I put that in the coffin with Dad and I said, ‘There you go, Dad, I’ve given you your fiver now.’

Kym revealed to OK! earlier this year: “I felt that there had to be a time when I let Archie rest. Fifteen years is a long time to carry his ashes around. They have been everywhere with me – even to South Africa.

“And when we realised that dad wasn’t going to get any better, I asked him how he’d feel about [being buried with Archie] and he was delighted. He said he was happy to go on his journey with Archie, so that’s what we’ve done. We’ve done it as a family and it absolutely felt like the right thing to do.”

Kym Marsh has revealed she’s planning to bury her son Archie’s ashes with her late dad.

The actress suffered heartbreak in 2009 when she and her now ex-husband Jamie Lomas’ child passed away at just 21 weeks following a premature birth. And in January, Kym’s dad David, 78, passed away from prostate cancer. Paying tribute to her beloved father on Instagram, Morning Live host Kym wrote: “I love you dad. Always and forever. Rest easy Pops. Goodnight God bless.”

Now, former Coronation Street star Kym has shared her plans to “lay Archie to rest” with her beloved dad.

Kym appeared on MorningLive on Thursday (February 22). Speaking to co-hosts Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton, she revealed that she and ex Jamie agreed on the burial after the 15th anniversary of Archie’s death.

She said: “Archie would have been 15, we’ve just celebrated his birthday on February 11. When we found out that dad was going to sadly pass away… I had Archie’s ashes with me ever since the day that we got them because I always felt like it wasn’t the right thing to do [a burial].”

Kym explained: “Because I didn’t get to know what kind of little boy he was or where he would like to go or what he would have liked to do and because I move around so much, I couldn’t really put them anywhere.

“And we decided both Jamie and I that we would let Archie rest with my dad. So when my dad’s ashes come back we are going to lay Archie to rest with my dad.”

Gethin then said: “Your dad will absolutely love that.” To which Kym replied: “Yeah he will, he will indeed. I mean I saw dad at Christmas and Archie [ashes] was there too, I took him to my daughters at Christmas.

“And my dad said that day, he put his hand on the box and said ‘are you ready to go on our journey mate’, so dad got a lot of comfort in it and I know now he is up there eating ice cream with him.”
