Looks For Less: Get Hailey Bieber’s Style On A Budget

    [ad_1]

    New mother
Hailey Bieber has been the ultimate influencer for just about everyone on the planet. She’s dictated trends like chrome nails, glazed donut skin (thanks, rhode), and even hair color. And if Hailey Bieber uses Kosas concealer, so do we.

Not only does she make a product look easy to use, she’s also a supermodel who knows trends
before the public does. Listening to Hailey Bieber expound about trends is the smart thing to do.

But one thing I am confident about is the fact that I cannot afford
Hailey Bieber’s entire wardrobe. Yes, she may be the inspiration for our capsule closets and obsession with basics…she’s also a multi-millionaire. And I, sadly, am not.

That’s not going to stop me from aspiring to a supermodel-caliber closet on a regular salary. In fact, since
Hailey celebrates the basics so much, it actually makes her style affordable to recreate. No one can tell if Hailey’s tee is Prada and mine is H&M…

If you’re going to emulate a celebrity’s style, it’s key to invest in pieces where quality makes a visible difference like leather jackets or dresses. But ultimately, we’re looking to shop smarter and save money.

Hailey Bieber has iconic outfits that we all can easily achieve, so let’s look into how to get her look for less!

    Hailey’s All White Moment

Hailey is blessed. Even while pregnant with son, Jack Blues Bieber, she can wear regular-sized clothing. But what I especially like about this outfit is that it works for multiple occasions and looks terrific on all body types.

Here are some great options for a similar Hailey-inspired look:

And, of course, there’s the bag. A Birkin knockoff by YSL is awesome, but even then, still too pricey. Luckily enough, the market’s glutted with Birkin dupes that are more affordable.

    An Easy Fall Trench Look

Honestly, this is such a fantastic look that’s easily put together with essential items already in your closet: a white tank, trousers, and trench coat. What Hailey does best is make basic look thrilling. And an easily achievable look.

Plus, a trench coat is a necessity when it comes to fall weather. It’s one of the most underrated outerwear pieces for the fashion lover. A trench coat and heels says corporate, it gives off an official vibe that I love.

If you want this ensemble, here are a few close-to-identical pieces:

    A Staple Oversized Leather Jacket

Now that we’re suddenly transitioning into fall weather, we need to start thinking about cold weather pieces. If there’s one thing that is
very Hailey Bieber, it’s an oversized leather jacket.

She’s constantly photographed with a big leather Balenciaga bomber jacket — upwards of $6,000. So while we can’t afford Hailey’s iconic leather jacket — that she wears with everything — we
    can replicate.

These are my favorite leather bombers that are inspired by Hailey:

    A Sassy Fur Coat

If you’re partial to the mob wife aesthetic, this one’s for you. When Mrs. Bieber donned this YSL faux fur jacket with a pair of jeans, red pumps, and sunnies, we knew this would be a style inspo pic for many.

Nothing makes you feel sassier than a fur coat. When I wear one, I seriously feel like a runway model hiding secrets in my jacket. Drape it over a dress for added warmth this winter, with leather leggings, or even jeans like HB.

Here are some of my favorite oversized fur coats:

    A Simple Black Dress

We all love a little black dress. But again, the weather is transitional right now. Great for date night, or dinner with your friends, or just a special occasion in general. I love this dress on Hailey because she lets her accessories do the talking.

Whether you choose to style it with simple jewelry and a chic up-do, or colorful heels and matching bag, with a simple black dress like Hailey’s Bottega Veneta dress you cannot go wrong.

Again, a $2,900 dress isn’t the ideal price tag, I’ve found a few similar looks for far less:

    And A Fun Red Dress

Holiday Season calls for a red dress…I know it, you know it. So let’s get it out of the way early! Have one on deck so you don’t have to stress about it come December.

What amazing about this Hailey look is that she really commits to the all red. Red pumps, red lip, red strawberry earrings, and of course…the red dress.

This Ermanno Scervino Fall 2023 dress is, of course, far beyond our price range. But something like it is certainly achievable. Just look for a structured empire waist and tight bodice on your strapless dress.

Here are a few similar options if you want the Bieber look:

Hailey Bieber & I Both Use This Kosas Setting Powder—& It’s on Sale for 20% Off

If you’re chronically online on TikTok, you likely can’t go a week without spotting a Kosas makeup product in your FYP (I know I can’t). There’s always a buzzy launch or bestseller that users are raving about, and I’m here to say that Hailey Bieber and I understand the hype. After all, we use the same setting powder, which, along with everything else on Kosas’ site, is 20% off during the summer sale.

The beauty brand has been cranking out hit after hit ever since it launched in 2015, and it’s garnered support from celebrities, TikTokers, and shoppers alike. As a shopping editor who’s covered almost every makeup product Hailey Bieber has used, I can tell you that she’s previously reached for Kosas’ Revealer Concealer, Cloud Set Setting Powder, DreamBeam Sunscreen, Glow I.V. Skin Enhancer, and Air Brow. I can also tell you that Generation Alpha TikToker Katie Fang is a longtime Plump + Juicy Vegan Collagen Spray-On Serum fan. As for me, I’ve tried the cult-fave Revealer Concealer and Cloud Set Setting Powder, and the latter has become a daily go-to.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding Kosas’ impressive lineup. Below, learn more about a handful of the brand’s noteworthy formulas, including Hailey Bieber-used and editor-approved picks. Whether you’re restocking everyday faves or trying new products to channel your inner “clean girl,” remember to place your order before Kosas’ Summer Sale ends June 25 (no code needed!).

    Kosas Cloud Set Setting Powder
    Kosas.Kosas.

Kosas says this powder “sweeps away shine (not glow),” and they couldn’t be more right. Trust me, as an oily gal, this product vanishes my greasiness without completely mattifying my complexion or removing any glow. Take it from another stan: Hailey Bieber. “This is just really for any of the areas I feel like I get a little oily, which is mostly the T-zone area,” she explains in a TikTok GRWM.

    Kosas Blush is Life
    Kosas.

Don’t skip out on Kosas’ newest arrival, its powder blush. The baked formula gives you a natural-looking, radiant touch of color, making it a perfect addition to your summer makeup routine. Swirl your brush into the two different tones to achieve a sunkissed glow. I’m feeling like a peachy pink summer is upon us, so I’m eyeing shades Blissed, Hype, and Thrill.

    Photo: Kosas

Hailey Bieber revealed to Vogue in her date night GRWM that in addition to applying the concealer on blemishes and under her eyes, she also applies the product along her jawline for a “lifted” and “sculpted look.”

“I just love that it’s like creamy and hydrating and leaves just this dewy finish on the skin,” she gushed.

    Kosas DreamBeam Sunscreen
    Photo: Kosas

Kosas’ rolled out its first suncreen in April, and it has instantly become a staple. DreamBeam is a mineral SPF 40 formula that protects against UV rays while hydrating the skin with plumping peptides, skin barrier stregthening ceramides, and moisturizing hyaluronic acid.

    Photo: Kosas

Through a powerful blend of AHAs (shikimic, mandelic, and lactic), the alumium-free Chemistry Deodorant pulls triple duty, treating BO, preventing ingrown hairs, and brightening armpits.

Keep your brows in line with this lightweight tinted brow gel. Essential hair care ingredients infused in the formula—think castor oil, panthenol provitamin B5, and Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1—condition each strand, supporting your current brow health and promoting future growth.

If you want a flawless complexion, add this product to your cart immediately. The sister of the famous Revealer Concealer, this foundation plumps skin with hylauranic acid and peptides. Plus, its available in 36 shades.

Thinking about office parties or family gatherings, what would you suggest to look like the best version of yourself? Maybe upping the ante a little bit but not going fully overboard?

This is something that I definitely do, where I save the big, glittery, bold, lips for big parties, events, things like that. In the office and family, I kind of keep it low-key, but just a little bit better than what I would maybe normally look at the office. Especially since I feel like I’m pretty minimal.

I usually do a skin tint, maybe some mascara and a lip gloss.

I think just wearing a little bit of color on your lips. I feel like this is the best time of year to do something that—maybe a really pretty berry or a wine color. Even a red that you find that’s like flattering for your skin tone and hair.

Maybe it’s even just adding a gloss or just doing a liner if you normally just do mascara.

I think people get really intimidated with eyeliner, but I think liquid liner is actually pretty easy.

Even if it’s just doing a little flick on your sides can immediately add some definition and make your features just pop a little bit more.

This is my favorite Kosas product of all time, and I use it every time I wear makeup. It sets my makeup and adds a soft-focus appearance to my complexion. I also love that my face doesn’t look cakey or super matte after application; there’s still a healthy glow after swiping the powder on.

In the world of clean beauty, few brands have made as big of an impact as Kosas. With a focus on clean formulations that enhance natural beauty, Kosas has become a go-to brand for those seeking a balance between performance and skin-friendly ingredients. What’s more, the brand has repeatedly gone viral as its innovative products capture the hearts of millions of customers across multiple social platforms. Behind the brand, which is dominating the clean beauty industry, is visionary founder Sheena Zadeh-Daly.

Zadeh-Daly has built a brand consumers believe in, garnering popularity and, perhaps more importantly, credibility. If you’ve already experienced the magic that is the brand’s best-selling Revealer Concealer—or any of its other groundbreaking products—you likely understand the unparalleled quality. But Zadeh-Daly’s journey to creating one of the fastest-growing prestige makeup brands in the country is a fascinating one. “When I’m shopping for a concealer, I’m always looking for something lightweight, buildable, and hydrating! There is nothing that I hate more than a concealer that becomes cake-y and flakey by the end of the day,” shares freelance makeup artist and Kite Beauty representative, Morgan Leigh. “My favorite go to is Kite Beauty because their ingredients are beyond hydrating and buildable which is key! The packaging is also made for the on-the-go girls so it’s always easy to touch up or build coverage for a day to night look!” When applying concealer, Leigh likes to begin with an very moisturized canvas to ensure easy application of the concealer product.

For skin prep, Leigh’s go-to product is Merit’s Instant Glow Serum which uses skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to quickly hydrate and visibly plump the skin; lending to a visibly brighter and smoother palette to start with. She then follows the serum with a moisturizer for easy concealer application that also remains glowy. After your skin is moisturized, Leigh recommends using a damp beauty blender for flawless application and the ability to build up your concealer’s coverage.

If you haven’t found your holy-grail concealer just yet and are still looking for a versatile lightweight formula, don’t worry! I’ve scoured the internet for some of the best ones out there. • Bad Day To Be An Influencer: How Tarte And False Eyelashes Made Headlines

Bad Day To Be An Influencer: How Tarte And False Eyelashes Made Headlines

    [ad_1]

We entered 2023 fully under the grip of influencers. Names like Alix Earle and Monet McMichael sit in front of their ring lights and we eat up every product they use in their makeup routine. In fact, not only are people in love with these influencers, but every product they mention typically leads to nationwide sellouts.

The power of the influencer is not by accident. While social media apps like the ever-powerful titan TikTok are known for their algorithm that show you specific posts based on your interests, this also means a lot of advertising goes on behind the scenes. You may be watching a full minute long video that is essentially a paid-for ad by a brand.

And brands will spare no expense to convince you their product does the impossible. Whether that be longer lashes (more on that later) or a golden bronze sunless tan, there’s a constant stream of videos with an overjoyed, overpaid influencer who “has stumbled across the product to change your life.” And we all believe it.

But as time goes on and TikTok influences us to the extreme, people have begun to find flaws in influencer marketing.

The glass has shattered on the influencer mirage. Consumers have seen them using hair extensions when promoting hairspray, false lashes to accompany a miracle mascara, or using a completely different product and acting like it was another.

Let’s just say there’s been some drama within the beauty industry – so much so that Jeffree Star has risen from YouTube’s ashes and come back to honestly review makeup. Again, not on my 2023 bingo card.

So, if you’ve missed the drama, or want to know who you can trust, trust me – a random girl on the internet who has too much time on her hands and no beauty endorsements to date!

    The Tarte Dubai Trip

    In January,
Tarte organized a trip for 29 influencers and their plus ones to travel to Dubai and use/post about their products. And I mean, who would say no to this? You and your favorite person get to go to DUBAI and mess around for free? Sign me up.

@alixearle odds she lets me drive ..
♬ original sound – alix earle

But the cracks eventually started to show which was all displayed in a TikTok by Barstool’s Jack McGuire. For one, Tarte sent every influencer to Dubai first class on Emirates Airline, where one ticket alone costs around $22,000 (multiply that by two for their plus ones). So $255,000 alone on plane tickets.

@jackmacbarstool This is elite #journalisming♬ original sound – Jack Mac

And then there’s the stay in villas at the Ritz Carlton Dubai. Which are so expensive you can’t even find pricing online. Not to mention the money they had to pay each influencer to
post their products and show up – Alix Earle charges $70,000 per post alone.

So how can a brand built “on credit cards and a dream” afford such a luxury marketing ploy? It’s suspicious and tone deaf in a world where people can barely afford the rising cost of $7 eggs. When the influencers were barely posting about Tarte products themselves, the jokes began to write themselves.

The whole event showed how out of touch Tarte may be with their consumers. While the company refutes all allegations and “conspiracy theories,” I’m not sold. And besides the viral Juicy Lip Balm, I rarely see any of their products in anyone’s daily routine anymore.

    The Mikayla-L’Oréal Drama

So things were touchy with the influencer world in the wake of the Tarte Dubai trip. But beauty guru Mikayla Nogueria, known for her bubbly makeup reviews and selling out products, reviewed L’Oreal’s new Telescopic mascara. She was seemingly baffled by the amazing results, and so were viewers…for different reasons.

@destinywillard_ Who you tryna fool girl??? 😅🥴🥴 This is why I don’t trust influencers who get paid product 🤣 #greenscreen#greenscreenvideo @mikaylanogueira #mikaylanogueira#makeuptutorial#makeupreview#mikayladrama#fyp#foryou#viral#transition#fake♬ original sound – Destiny Willard

Quicker than you can say “Dubai,” fans took notice of how it appears Mikayla put extensions on midway through the video to make her lashes look fuller.

There have been witch hunts accusing brands like Makeup By Mario of using the beauty filter when debuting his foundation. No one knows who to trust anymore.

As previously mentioned, Jeffree Star has come back out of beauty review retirement to restore the public’s faith in beauty guru humanity. Times have gotten so dark that we’re actually unaware of what works and what’s a paid advertisement.

    Which Brands Aren’t Scams?

While things may look bleak, luckily I’ve tried just about every brand of makeup under the influencer sun. Give these influencers their Oscar because I truly believe that they love these products every time. But things aren’t always as they seem.

I’ve gotten patchy foundations, terrible formulas, and cute packaging over quality products. I know a thing or two about being scorned. However, there are a few brands that I will trust every single time, with or without the influencer stamp of approval.

Right now, the trend is “de-influencing” products that garnered hype on TikTok for no reason. To save you the blood, sweat, and tears, here are some makeup brands that influencers actually got right:

    1. wet ‘n wild
    2. Makeup by Mario
    3. Dior
    4. Kosas

  • We Tried the New Launch That Activates Incandescent Skin Now (and Long-Term)

We Tried the New Launch That Activates Incandescent Skin Now (and Long-Term)

    [ad_1]

    Main skin concerns:

Dullness, dryness, uneven skin tone, some pigmentation (thank you, L.A. sun!) and acne scars.

What were your hopes and dreams for the Kosas Glow I.V. before trying it?

Even though this product can be used multiple ways, I wanted it to be a magical skin elixir that would make my no-base makeup days (aka when I’m running wild around town without foundation and concealer) a little more glowy. I wanted something that would help even out some of the redness and pigmentation in my skin without looking like I was wearing any type of makeup. My skin has also been especially dry and dull this winter, so I was dreaming of an instant injection of brightness and light-catching glow.

    How did you apply it?

I mixed it in with a barrier-protecting ceramide-rich serum I’ve been loving and applied it straight-up with my hands. I had also applied a little bit of eye cream, under-eye brightener, and chapstick.

What would you rate it from one to five and why?

I would give this a four! Just like the name suggests, I did feel like my complexion got an instant shot of glowy radiance. My skin looked brighter, slightly more even (a V red acne scar by my lip looked less noticeable), and all around more hydrated and bouncy. Not surprising considering the amazing, vitamin-inspired ingredients. The only thing that is stopping this from getting a full five out of five for me is the fact that when the light hits just so, it is pretty shimmery. I personally liked the glazed-doughnut effect it gave my skin, but it does lean a tad Edward Cullen. That said, because it is tinted, it looks less blatantly sparkly. Now that I’ve tried it, I’ll definitely use the bronzy shades all over my chest and shoulders (so pretty) and will continue to mix the lighter shades in with my skincare on no-makeup days. (I kind of feel like it might be too much added in with other makeup products like foundation, but that’s just me!) I’ll definitely keep testing it as a highlighter just on certain areas of my face, like my cheekbones, brow bones, and Cupid’s bow, as well. Also, fair warning, a little goes a long way! This tube will last you longer than you think it will.

Will you keep using it in your routine?

Yes! It instantly took my skin from The Walking Dead to alive and bright and radiant.

Would you recommend it product to a friend?

Yes, I think it’s a great clean, multitasking product. People can really customize how they want to use it, and I think it looks really beautiful on the skin.

What did you love and not love?

My favorite thing was how instantly it transformed the look and feel of my skin. Least favorite would probably be that it’s pretty concentrated in the shimmer department, but now that I know that, I’ll be able to adjust my application accordingly.

How does this product compare similar products you’ve tried?

Def more shimmery! But it didn’t feel oily or slick on my skin, and it actually has skin-improving ingredients like glutathione, algae extracts, and the brand’s special botanical complex called Vitaglow-D. It’s by far one of the best skin-enhancing complexion products I’ve tried, and I’ve tried lots.

I Asked 3 of the Most Photogenic People on IG What Products They Always Wear

    [ad_1]

Anyone who has ever tried to take a selfie (aka everyone) knows that there’s an art to it. First, you have to find your light—nothing too bright, nothing too low—then your angle, and don’t even get me started on camera resolution. But once you’ve figured out those key components, there is a way to get outside help, in the form of beauty products.

See, aside from the sheer je ne sais quoi of being photogenic, makeup, skincare and haircare products can sculpt features, tame flyaways, and otherwise add to your natural photo-readiness. From the best highlighters to catch the light to brow gels that keep hairs perfectly in place, certain secret weapons take photos to the next level. Don’t believe me? I asked three of the most photogenic people on Instagram—Sasha Mei, Sarennya Srimugayogam, and Who What Wear’s own beauty director, Erin Jahns—for the products that help them feel their best when they pull out that front-facing camera.

  • The Ultimate Gift Guide For The Girl Who Loves TikTok Trends

The Ultimate Gift Guide For The Girl Who Loves TikTok Trends

    [ad_1]

One thing the internet isn’t short of during the holiday season is gift guides. Gifts for your boyfriend, your dad, your sister, your best friend, your cat…there’s a list out there just waiting to be read.

However, there is one fatal flaw in ultimate gift-giving lists on the internet: you become basic. Somehow, every website catches on to the trendiest gift of the year and everyone buys it for everyone.

Scrolling through social media can be equally as taxing because you may get the same recommendation four times in a row. Plus, who even knows what influencer is being paid to say they love a product when in reality it sucks?

@steffieinthecity Dior really be out here spoiling us for the holiday season 🥹🥰 If you want to get all of this for yourself, just use the code HOLMOON22 ❤️ Tag me in ur unboxings if u post them 😍#dior #unboxing #giftideas #diormakeup #diorunboxing #beauty #luxury #luxurylifestyle #makeup #giftideasforher #holidayseason @steffieinthecity @steffieinthecity @steffieinthecity ♬ original sound – Steffie✨Luxury Fashion Beauty

I’m recently feeling a bit scorned by TikTokers who convinced me to buy a few products from Haus Labs that lacked in all areas. But I can’t just blame the TikTokers–the five star rating on Sephora also fooled me. So, I’m feeling a bit wary about what to buy and who to trust.

    @jenikkafn GIFT GUIDE 🕺🏾 don’t know what to get the beauty obsessed person in your life? i got you 🫡 #greenscreen #sephorafavorites #giftideas #giftguide #holidaycountdown #gifthaul #makeupobsessed #makeupgifts #makeupgiftset ♬ Funny Song – Cavendish Music

Luckily, because I buy into so many trends, I’m no stranger to disappointment from social media recs. Some call me silly, I call it a necessary experiment. Why wouldn’t I try products that make others feel beautiful? I want a share of their elation.

If you’re looking to get someone in your life a gift that is social media approved, you’ve come to the right place. I am an unashamed consumer who has bought into many TikTok trending products. And now look, you’ll have a great gift as a result. Dare I say you’re welcome?

Without further ado, here are my favorite social media-inspired gifts for the TikToker in all of us:

    Makeup

Essentially anything from Sephora has gone viral at this rate. Makeup brands are actively competing to release the newest product that will be featured on any influencer’s TikTok.

There are quite a few brands that truly live up to the hype from TikTok. Look for these brands and viral products when you go to the store next:

    Charlotte Tilbury

    Kosas

    Makeup By Mario

    Hourglass

    Hair

I love haircare products for gifts because no one talks about how expensive healthy hair can be. For the HairTok lover, try out these brands that make a serious difference.

    Color Wow

    Kerastase

    amika

    OUAI

    Fragrance

PerfumeTok has blown up recently. I’m constantly seeing dupes and reviews on my FYP which has made me put more of an emphasis on what perfume I’m wearing. A scent is a great gift for everyone, so why not one of these viral ones?

You can never go wrong with a trendy gift inspired by TikTok That is, if you know where to look. Don’t waste your time sifting through influencer advertisements and just come straight to me–the self-proclaimed professional. go straight to me…the self-proclaimed professional.

16 Spray-On ‘Serums’ That Deliver Glow-y Skin in Seconds

    [ad_1]

Getting consistently glow-y skin can sometimes feel like an impossibility, especially for the non-Zoë Kravitzes of the world and anyone who simply doesn’t have the time to incorporate a 20-step routine into their day. But if there’s anything social media — and its many filters — has taught us, it’s that a lit-from-within, luminous complexion is still at the top of most people’s beauty wish lists. A new crop of so-called spray-on “serums” is hoping to simplify and streamline the glow-building process: These supercharged takes on face mists pack potent ingredients and an array of benefits into one swift step, creating dewy, even complexions in seconds flat.

  • SKKN By Kim is Not Worth the Hype: Here are the products we recommend instead.

SKKN By Kim is Not Worth the Hype: Here are the products we recommend instead.

    [ad_1]

You’ve probably heard a lot about Kim Kardashian’s new skincare line, SKKN by Kim.

It first entered the news cycle just by virtue of being Kim’s brand. After shutting down KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance, everyone wondered what Kim was going to do next. Surprisingly, her popular apparel brand Skims gets rave reviews for quality and comfort. So when she launched SKKN, she inevitably made headlines.

SKKN claims to be “an innovative line of uncompromising skincare developed by Kim Kardashian. Through a visionary nine-product ritual, SKKN By Kim delivers nourishment, renewal, and an indulgent at-home experience.” But what is it, really?

The packaging claims to be sustainable but was accused of greenwashing. Womp womp. The nine-piece collection also raised eyebrows for its price range, with products ranging from $43 to $95. The full collection includes a cleanser, toner, exfoliator, a hyaluronic acid serum, vitamin C8 serum, a face cream, an eye cream, oil drops, and night oil. It’s a luxury line, she said in defense, so expectations were high.

Because at this point, celebrity brands are ubiquitous. Even Brad Pitt, who allegedly didn’t wash his face twice a day until his twenties (ew), has a new skin line. So what’s Kim bringing? Just her name? Her beige packaging — which is practically all she brought to her Beats collab?

In SKKN’s press release, she stressed the quality of materials and the dermatology-first approach. “What began as a psoriasis diagnosis became the catalyst for my journey of skin-care discoveries, inspiring me to learn more about my skin and how to care for it,” she said. “Working with some of the top dermatologists and estheticians over the years has given me the incredible opportunity to learn from their expertise, and I knew I had to share my learnings.”

SKKN has been around for a few months now, so we can safely say we’ve had a chance to sit with it and get past the hype to give you a real review.

So is it worth it? Our editors say … no.

Though it isn’t just another flop celebrity brand, there’s nothing special about it. And now, with Rhode Skin making headlines for introducing unique, versatile products at an affordable price point, SKKN products aren’t bringing anything new to the table.

So what should you buy instead? We’re breaking down each reason you might have been tempted to add SKKN products to your cart or your wishlist — and what you can get to scratch that itch instead.

You might think SKKN is reasonably priced…

With skincare, I’m not afraid of paying higher prices for higher quality. But most SKKN products are pretty mid and their ingredients are nothing noteworthy (more on that later). The markups are a result of good marketing and Kim K’s affiliation with the brand. I don’t know about you, but I’m not down with the Kim tax.

Brands like The Ordinary have proven how accessible it is to get high efficacy ingredients at an affordable price. But if you don’t want to do the work of decoding which ingredients at The Ordinary work for you, try brands with lower price points, similar clean ingredient values, and overall better products. We like the skincare offerings from Kosas or Indie Lee

    .

You might think SKKN is prestigious because it’s made by Kim Kardashian…

Hate to burst your bubble, but very few “celebrity” brands are made by the celebrity. I’m sure you didn’t think Kim was in the lab cooking up your cleanser, but she probably wasn’t very involved in much of the ideation process either. She simply wrapped the products in her signature beige with her name on the label. And there’s not much that’s prestigious about that.

And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t heard a single peep from the digital skincare community about any of her products in the past few months. I personally like to buy products that have the prestige of positive reviews. If stores I trust have picked them up, I know I can trust the quality. And if beauty lovers have actually integrated them into their routines, I know they work. I bought the Kosas Serum Spray — which is a novel product and unlike anything else I have — only after I’d heard about it from multiple different sources. And I am loyal to Indie Lee because it’s stocked in clean beauty stores I love and every product I’ve tried has worke. To me, that’s real prestige.

You might think SKKN contains only good ingredients…

SKKN, like many other brands, is actually full of filler ingredients. While it may “be certified clean” (which isn’t a regulated term so has no real value) and gluten free, the ingredients are pretty unremarkable. Nothing sets SKKN apart from any other brand in terms of formulation. And the efficacy isn’t even that strong.

For products with actives like SKKN Vitamin C serum, I would definitely opt for something stronger and better. The Indie Lee CQ-10 Toner is a cult-favorite brightening powerhouse with more complex brightening ingredients. It’s also trusted by stores that specifically ban many harmful ingredients, so there’s more pedigree to its ingredients than a meaningless label.
