  • Why Are So Many Actors Creating Online Alter Egos?

    [ad_1]

Could this be a recession indicator, or has Hollywood truly gone insane?

In case you aren’t chronically online like me and many other millennials and Gen Zs, you may not be aware that there are several actors who have taken it upon themselves to allegedly create alter egos online, which have unsurprisingly gone viral. And you might be thinking: aren’t these people busy with their film careers? Which is a totally valid question. But it’s clear some of them have found some free time in their schedules.

One of the more recognizable personas on TikTok is elementary school art teacher Matt Taylor, who fans believe is actually Paul Blart: Mall Cop star Kevin James. Currently sitting with more than 800,000 followers, “Mr. Taylor” starts every video with, “Hey guys! Mr. Taylor here,” before sharing some motivational words as well as his artwork (which is quite good, if I’m being honest).

Though James hasn’t officially confirmed he’s the man behind the mysterious TikTok art teacher, their identical appearance makes it pretty obvious, and James doesn’t have an identical twin. At least not one the public knows about.

But some may be wondering the reason behind the alter ego. Only time will tell, but it could potentially be a promotional effort for an upcoming role or movie. James is slated to next star in the rom-com Solo Mio, releasing on Feb. 6.

Now, a face that’s a little less recognizable is Mr. Fantasy, who fans suspect is Riverdale star KJ Apa. With more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok, he became a viral sensation due to his eccentric personality, quirky style and unforgettable black bob and fake teeth (completely opposite to Apa’s appearance).

Since his first video in August — which captured people’s attention as theories started to spread that he’s really Apa, as they share the exact same tattoos — Mr. Fantasy has fully committed to the persona, traveling around the world making videos, dropping three original songs and even performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Though Apa has yet to confirm their connection or the reason for the alter ego, Mr. Fantasy previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s also not bothered by people comparing them on social media.

“Not bothered by it, not bothered by it,” he said. “Things bother me sometimes, but I keep my eyes upward, and I keep trudging the happy road of happy destiny. You know, things can be hurtful, sure, but I focus on the positive. I focus on the people whom I love and who love me and that have a positive influence on my life, like James Franco.”

The more obscure conspiracy theory making waves on social media is that Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet is actually U.K. rapper EsDeeKid. Up until Thursday, fans were only tying them together because of their similar eyes, as EsDeeKid keeps the rest of his face shielded from the public eye.

However, during a new interview with Heart Radio in the U.K., Chalamet said, “I’ve got no comment,” when asked about the rumors, before vaguely teasing, “I’ve got two words on that. All will be revealed in due time.”

Although that’s still not a confirmation, it was likely enough to keep the theories swirling online. Especially since Chalamet is a known fan of hip-hop music, and even rapped under the alias Lil’ Timmy growing up.

But as Mr. Fantasy, Mr. Taylor and EsDeeKid continue to find their own stardom outside of their true identities, let’s not forget the O.G. alter ego: Hannah Montana, aka Miley Stewart, aka Miley Cyrus. That role originated on the hit Disney Channel series that premiered in 2006, launching Cyrus’ career as a teen.

  • You’ll Never See KJ Apa and Mr. Fantasy on the Same Thanksgiving Float

Mr. Fantasy, you’re in the big leagues now, kid. KJ Apa’s Hannah Montana-like alter ego from TikTok has made it all the way to Rockefeller Center for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a little over a week after he was seen in the audience for Dancing with the Stars. He’s not under contract to any broadcast network, a free bird! The superstar Mr. Fantasy joined the oldest float in the parade, the Jolly Polly Pirate Ship, to perform his titular song “Mr. Fantasy,” ahead of new music coming out on November 28. He climbed and danced all around the ship, surrounded by children dressed as pirates, who probably thought that Mr. Fantasy was a part of some type of Lazy Town spin-off. I don’t think he shows up on their FYP.

When Apa was locked out of his TikTok account, he found a new, strange but productive way to cope by posting and promoting his music as Mr. Fantasy, where he wears a brunette f*ck ass bob wig, fake teeth, and real sunglasses. “It all starts with the music. The music helps me to get specific. Mr. Fantasy is always changing depending on which world he’s entering, and the music is the pioneer. The music is the great master that pulls Mr. Fantasy into these worlds,” he told People in an interview last month. And for the world of the Thanksgiving Parade, Mr. Fantasy is a pirate. Arg!

  • ‘Riverdale’ Final Season Trailer: Archie And His Pals Are Stuck In 1955, But The Pairings Will Shock You

‘Riverdale’ Final Season Trailer: Archie And His Pals Are Stuck In 1955, But The Pairings Will Shock You

“Riverdale” is taking a time warp back to 1955 to kick off its final season.

The CW’s outgoing drama dropped the official trailer for season 7 on Thursday, setting up the shenanigans that Archie (KJ Apa) and the crew will endure as they try to piece together what happened following last season’s finale. After facing off against Percival and narrowly missing a deadly comet, the gang was transported back to the ’50s, where they found themselves reliving high school… again.

Unfortunately for the crew, only Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is aware of all that transpired prior to their new 1955 reality.

As the two-minute trailer reveals, Jughead has the tall task of trying to convince his pals — who find themselves living very unexpected lives and paired up in the most shocking relationships — why they don’t actually belong in the ’50s. It all sounds a bit ridiculous, so it’s difficult to fault Archie and company for turning a blind eye to Jughead’s pleas.

“All of us, we were all sent back in time. We need to get back 67 years ago… but in the future,” Jughead proposes to his very confused group of friends.

“We’re juniors in high school. Life is good. Why would we go back?” Archie tells Jughead.

As Jughead tees up, things are a little different in this version of Riverdale: Betty (Lili Reinhart) is dating Kevin (Casey Cott), Veronica (Camila Mendes) is a Hollywood celebrity, Archie is getting married to Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch), Veronica and Jughead kissing(?!) by the fireplace, and Toni (Vanessa Morgan) riles Cheryl up through a stage performance.

And of course, it wouldn’t be “Riverdale” without some life-or-death stakes as Archie screams bloody murder as he’s tied down to a wooden table as a mysterious figure walks toward him with a power saw, Betty is seen foaming at the mouth at a school dance and a devastated Ethel (Shannon Purser) says something “terrible” has happened.

Last October, ET spoke with Reinhart about saying goodbye to Betty and “Riverdale”.

“It has a bittersweet feeling to it,” she said. “And I think I’m kind of just trying to approach this season with not taking anything for granted, really trying to be present, trying to enjoy my co-stars. So, it’s different for me at least.”

The actress revealed at the time that she doesn’t plan on taking anything specific from set — the experience of making it is enough for her.

“I don’t want to hoard anything,” Reinhart said. “I have literally, the episodes, the hundred-plus episodes that I’ve done, I don’t need anything physical. I’m taking the experience with me.”

“Riverdale” premieres Wednesday, March 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
