Children’s Learning Adventure on Helping Students Shape Character

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 7, 2019

The first few years of a child’s life is a time of incredible growth and development. Positive learning experiences in a variety of settings, such as the home and a quality childcare center, is essential. Children’s Learning Adventure supports a child’s understanding of themselves, through the development of their self-esteem and independence; and others, through structured and nurturing learning experiences that guide the child to see the world around them and develop empathy, patience, perseverance, and other important life skills. Purposeful involvement with a quality early learning program will lead to social and academic success in the future.

A child’s character development is formed through interactions, activities, and relationships. Young children begin to adopt qualities and characteristics at a very young age. It is important for them to engage in activities that shape the development of their character. Children’s Learning Adventure accomplishes this through modeling, role play, a character development program, and their community outreach program. These opportunities are integrated into their curriculum to provide valuable skills to our students, promoting growth in their social and academic experience for years to come.

“At Children’s Learning Adventure, our team members work hard to create a culture that feels like family. This environment encourages students to develop into confident lifelong learners. We encourage our students to value education and make positive life choices,” says Rick Sodja, CEO of Children’s Learning Adventure.

Children’s Learning Adventure offers unique environments designed to capture a child’s imagination and encourages exploration. Their proprietary curriculum is STEAM based and is seamlessly integrated into every classroom. Each campus offers specialty classrooms and an outdoor playground that encourages students to actively engage in the learning process. Children’s Learning Adventure strives to make learning an adventure and encourage their students to actively participate in the learning process in a safe and welcoming environment.

Children’s Learning Adventure also hosts monthly Open Houses to share their learning environment with every family! The next upcoming Open House is on Feb. 9. To learn more about Children’s Learning Adventure, please visit www.childrenslearningadventure.com.

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 22, 2019

FamilyTech Company JOY is partnering with Pfizer Mexico to disseminate its first product, the Octopus Watch, to children in Mexico living with a chronic health condition known as growth hormone deficiency (GHD). The Octopus Watch helps young patients by sending them reminders to take daily injections, while at the same time encouraging them to complete daily chores and enjoy the joys of childhood. The goal is that children with health conditions should have lives that are as normal fulfilled as possible and be supported to reach the same milestones as their peers.

Pfizer is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. It has initiatives around the world with programs in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America. “At Pfizer, we believe there are many potential benefits for patients when digital technology is applied to health care solutions. In the development of this project, we sought to have a positive impact on the lives of young patients, by empowering them with a tool that allows them to learn healthy life habits and helps increase adherence and acceptance of the disease,” said Fabiola Mariño, Rare Diseases Medical Director at Pfizer Mexico.

The Octopus Watch includes an icon-based smartwatch and an associated digital app with a selection of 2000+ icons to remind the child of his or her routine. A first-of-its-kind, the product is backed by childhood experts and an evidence base from clinical trials that include studies at McGill University in Canada.

Research shows that a sense of routine and predictability are essential to children’s proper development, particularly children facing the difficulties of chronic health conditions. Developing a sense of autonomy, responsibility, and self-esteem is important for all children. Enjoying childhood is important, and the Octopus Watch is a product that can help facilitate it. “It’s important for all kids to celebrate their achievements, big or small, by tracking each child’s unique progress,” said Sam Hickmann, JOY CEO.

Children’s Learning Adventure Finds the Answer to Maintaining School Break Stimulation

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Nov 7, 2018

A child’s school break doesn’t need to be a break from mental stimulation. At Children’s Learning Adventure, students are always gearing up for a new adventure. When school is out, it is “in” to join the fun by attending camps. Each school break and summer camp at Children’s Learning Adventure offers a specialized, uniquely designed curriculum that encompasses STEAM learning and literacy. Each theme is developed to engage students of all levels in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

In providing a loving, nurturing environment, Children’s Learning Adventure’s goal is to help children become confident, independent learners who develop a strong sense of self-worth, enabling them to make positive life choices. To ensure that every child has the proper tools to grow, STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) learning curriculum is incorporated into all Children’s Learning Adventure’s school break camps. By infusing multiple activities into their STEAM-based curriculum, Children’s Learning Adventure builds on a child’s natural problem-solving skills, building the foundation for critical thinkers.

CEO Rick Sodja explained further, “A high priority of ours is to instill a love for learning in students through fun and interactive activities. These activities allow students to discover and explore areas they are interested in while learning about something new.” Working collaboratively with parents, Children’s Learning Adventure is committed to developing students into lifelong learners.

To help students develop into lifelong learners, it is important for them to get “plugged in” and stay engaged in their educational development throughout the whole year, both inside and outside of their school environment. Children’s Learning Adventure has created six programs, from infant care to after school, to promote and help students of all ages grow and learn.

Students at Children’s Learning Adventure are presented with specific instruction providing opportunities for rich vocabulary learning, collaboration with peers and acquisition of scientific knowledge. Children’s Learning Adventure’s curriculum engages students in hands-on learning activities to spark curiosity and open new avenues for engagement.

Daily exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics at Children’s Learning Adventure

    Press Release

    updated: Oct 5, 2018

Children’s Learning Adventure enables students to discover their true potential through STEAM-based learning. They encourage their students to take an innovative approach to learning with a wide variety of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics activities. This supports students with the development of both their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. As students engage in daily exposure to STEAM-based learning, Children’s Learning Adventure supports and enhances every child’s opportunity for success and the ability to apply newly learned skills while developing in all academic areas.

Children’s Learning Adventure understands that children are born with a vast capacity for learning. The early developmental years are critical for expanding a child’s brain. Their curriculum incorporates the latest brain development research and implements simple, yet intricate lessons to maximize learning for each child. STEAM-based curriculum is incorporated into all programs to ensure each child is learning valuable skills.

Science is an integral component of STEAM-based learning curriculum. Students are presented with specific instruction providing opportunities for rich vocabulary learning, collaboration with peers and acquisition of scientific knowledge. Children’s Learning Adventure’s Laboratory Lagoon® sets the stage for investigation, discovery and experimentation, enabling students to take an in-depth look into scientific procedures. Children’s Learning Adventure science curriculum engages students in hands-on learning activities to spark curiosity and open new avenues for scientific engagement.

Children are prepared to live in a technology-driven world by incorporating the use of technology into STEAM-based curriculum. Children’s Learning Adventure has brought technology into their classrooms to give their school age-students the opportunity to sharpen their technology skills through tablet-based assessments. While it is necessary for students to get this hands-on experience, they also benefit from their teachers using Smart Board Technology to improve their classroom instruction.

In providing a loving, nurturing environment, Children’s Learning Adventure helps children become confident, independent learners who develop a strong sense of self-worth, enabling them to make positive life choices. To ensure that every child has the proper tools to grow, engineering is incorporated into STEAM-based learning curriculum. Engineering is simply designing, building and using structures and machines. By infusing engineering activities into the STEAM-based curriculum, Children’s Learning Adventure builds on a child’s natural problem-solving skills, building the foundation for critical thinkers.

Children’s Learning Adventure believes students should be given the opportunity to express themselves creatively. The arts are incorporated into their STEAM-based learning curriculum through the implementation of art, music and drama lessons in the daily activities. We know that exposure to the arts is fundamental for early childhood brain development, as it allows children to express emotions and feelings in a positive and healthy way.

Mathematics provides the foundational building blocks for academic success. Mathematics can be applied to essential life skills and is incorporated into several other subjects and everyday interactions. At Children’s Learning Adventure, students develop a conceptual understanding of numbers, combinations and operations. In addition to number knowledge, students learn shapes and their structure, reasoning, measurement, classification and patterns. These mathematical skills are incorporated in the STEAM-based learning curriculum. Students gain hands-on acumen of these mathematical skills while participating each day in learning opportunities in the classroom.

Children’s Learning Adventure’s CEO Rick Sodja has encouraged his centers to embrace Lifetime Adventures® STEAM-based curriculum, based on the latest brain development research, providing children with the activities and environment to greatly impact their capacity for learning and later success.

Children’s Learning Adventure is holding open houses across all their locations on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018. Families can stop by any time between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. To learn more about Children’s Learning Adventure or their STEAM-based curriculum, please visit www.childrenslearningadventure.com.

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 7, 2018

Children begin building confidence early on, especially once they start attending school. Children’s Learning Adventure provides a secure, safe and nurturing environment to facilitate the child’s growth in self-confidence and all areas of development. By providing a positive, engaging after-school environment, the child experiences assistance with homework as needed, ensuring the time for social and emotional learning with peers, as well as valuable family time at the end of the day.

Academics are an important part of every child’s social and emotional development. Children’s Learning Adventure’s school-age program provides an active, engaging environment for students before and after a long day at school. Through homework help, specialty classrooms and fitness activities, students are staying stimulated outside of their traditional school setting. Children’s Learning Adventure’s school-age program includes a variety of content areas, including creative arts, sports, math, language and science.

In creative arts, students are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively. They are encouraged to participate in a range of activities that allow for creative and imaginative expression, such as music, art, creative movement and drama. “Our After School program serves as one of our hallmark offerings,” CEO Rick Sodja remarks. “Parents and children alike attest to its ability to engage and enrich the students’ lives.”

The school-age program also helps students grasp a better understanding of their physical development and health. Healthy habits such as good food choices, exercise, hygiene and safety practices are taught, laying the foundation for lifelong healthy living. Students also benefit from learning about muscle control during gym and outdoor fitness activities.

To develop a conceptual understanding of numbers, combinations and operations, mathematics is taught in Children’s Learning Adventure’s after school program. Mathematical knowledge is applied to classroom games and activities, making it a fun learning environment for students of all ages. This encourages students to embrace a new, positive attitude towards learning that they can apply in a traditional classroom setting. This makes subjects they may have struggled with before more enjoyable.

Children’s Learning adventure incorporates language and literacy skills into their program, as these subjects play a huge role in the growth of students. Multiple learning environments provide a large variety of language development opportunities in many subject areas. Students also reinforce their reading skills through the use of technology.

Specialty enrichment instruction provides opportunities for rich vocabulary learning, collaboration with peers and acquisition of scientific knowledge in science and social studies. Students develop an understanding for themselves, their families and communities through “Community Connections” activities.

Children’s Learning Adventure has specifically designed their classrooms with school-age students in mind. Although the school-age program is structured, students have time to spend with their friends. Social-emotional character development occurs when students are encouraged to develop positive relationships with one another. Students create these relationships by reporting to their age-specific homeroom, visiting with friends, engaging in homeroom activities and rotating through specialty enrichment classes.

For the 50th anniversary of Apollo 7, children will send questions to Walter Cunningham, the only surviving astronaut from the mission

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 11, 2018

Fifty years ago, the race to the moon was in full swing. Scientists and engineers were making huge leaps in technology to make good on President Kennedy’s promise of reaching the moon. As News-O-Matic covers the current events of 2018, it is also looking back at the news of 1968 that changed the world. And it’s inviting young readers to participate by conducting an interview with Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham!

Throughout January, students can submit questions to Cunningham through News-O-Matic. The Q&A with the American hero will then be featured in early February. It’s an example of how the Daily News Just for Kids is transforming the news experience — by involving children with the editorial process and letting them ask the big questions.

This is how we make history come alive.

    Russell Kahn, Editor in Chief

“This is how we make history come alive,” said News-O-Matic Editor-in-Chief Russell Kahn. “We are getting first-person accounts from 1968 to create powerful connections to our past for the next generation,” he added. “As a result, our users come back to read the news day after day and develop the regular routine of daily reading.” Kahn also said that kids who grow up reading the news on a daily basis become “better-informed global citizens and critical thinkers.”

This feature is part of an ongoing series of 1968 anniversaries, each with rich opportunities for students to gain context to their world. There will be articles on the Mexico City Olympic Games, with its parallels to the recent protests in the NFL. There will also be features on America’s strained relationship with North Korea from 1968.

Students will do more than just learn about the lasting impacts of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. They will participate in a writing contest to honor the legacy of Dr. King, 50 years after his death. It’s all part of the newspaper’s efforts to engage even the most reluctant readers.

    About News-O-Matic

News-O-Matic is the Digital Daily News Platform for Kids. More than 4 million children have downloaded the reading app (iOS and Android) from 140+ countries. Thousands of U.S. schools use the resource as part of their nonfiction literacy curriculum. Interactive technology features engage young readers with breaking news. All texts include multiple readability levels from grades K–8 with audio recordings. The articles are available in English, Spanish and French (text and audio).

Warner Home Video will once again offer THE POLAR EXPRESS in standard-definition, Blu-ray and 3D DVD versions this holiday season.

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 28, 2017

Unleash the kids this harvest season and set them loose on a Pumpkin Patch full of interactive games, prizes, tricks and treats! Every Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 through 29, kids of all ages can ride the historic rails from the Rusk, Texas train depot to Texas State Railroad’s very own Pumpkin Patch.

These daytime events, with 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. departure options, are fun, not frightening; perfect for all ages. Wearing costumes adds to the enthusiasm so passengers are encouraged to come attired in their Halloween best. Tiny boos and ghouls also will enjoy hopping in the bounce house and children may each select their own future jack-o-lantern to bring aboard the train.

The 90-minute layover at the Pumpkin Patch includes hayrides, spooky tunes and seasonal music; and safe, fun trick-or-treating on “Trick-or-Treat Street.” A variety of food will be available for purchase at the Pumpkin Patch.

In our fast-paced world, folks often forget to slow down and unplug, to take time to savor tranquil moments big and small, to appreciate life and loved ones. An adventure aboard Texas State Railroad is the antidote to the modern world; back to wild forests, charming architecture, peaceful ranchland and vintage transportation.

Historic steam and diesel locomotives take passengers on a 50-mile round trip adventure along the celebrated Piney Woods Route of East Texas. This quintessential daytrip, only a few hours from the metropolitan communities of Dallas and Houston, will create memories that last a lifetime.  Steeped in local history, “The Official Railroad of Texas” whisks passengers back in time as it journeys between the quaint towns of Rusk and Palestine.

Passengers enjoy comfortable accommodations in early-1900s coaches, hosted by friendly and informative attendants as they travel along gently rolling hills. During the journey, the train passes over 24 bridges, including one over 1,000 feet long. Unusual railroad structures, such as the locomotive turntable located midway, dot the historic route.

In addition to the Pumpkin Patch, other events punctuate the calendar, including the popular Polar Express every Christmas season. Trains depart on a varied year-round schedule from Palestine or Rusk.  For more information visit www.texasstaterailroad.net or call 855-632-7729.

Swiss Author Stephan Lendi has released his new book “The Noodle Society”, which is a children’s adventure tale that follows four talented young chefs on their trip to the secret Noodle Society Headquarters. The story includes fun facts on the history of noodles and the way noodles are prepared and eaten around the world. It inspires young readers to follow their passion for cooking and discover new flavors and textures while expanding their cultural horizons.

In the story, Jill from the U.S., Liliane from France, Miko from Japan, and Peter from Switzerland take part in competing against one another with their own noodle dishes to become a member of the Noodle Society – a secret society of only the most talented noodle chefs. As the children move through the various rounds of the competition, they advance their recipes and refine their cooking techniques and passion for noodles. They also develop an understanding of the cultural background of their competitors. Through the story, readers come to know the characters and wonder which young chef will convince the jury they are the best and be given the honor of becoming a member of the secret Noodle Society.

Lendi, who currently resides in Zurich, is a Swiss marketing and communications professional with a passion for food and cooking. When he was taught to fold Gyozas the Japanese way by his Japanese friend’s grandmother, he fell in love with the Japanese cuisine from Izakaya style cooking to high-end Kaiseki creations.

“The story was really grown out of my passion for cooking and travel,” says Lendi. “I have always loved to travel, especially to Japan, China, various European countries, the U.S., and Canada. I find a lot of joy in discovering the stories of the people I meet on my journeys, tasting local food, and talking to local chefs about their stories and passions.”

Lendi is also the CEO of Newbury Media & Communications. During his professional career as a communications coach, he has specialized in body language, professional speaking, voice and moderation skills coaching. With more than 15 years as one of the leading voiceover artists in Switzerland and corporate voice of many globally known companies, Lendi feels at home behind the microphone and onstage as the host of various corporate events, panel discussions and cooking shows.

“The Noodle Society” is available as an e-book for Kindle on Amazon, softcover on Amazon, and as an audiobook on Audible.

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 19, 2016

Thousands of young readers voted for the News-O-Matic “Kid of the Year”. They elected Payton Alexander from Glen Rose, Texas, as the winner for 2016! Payton joins Malala Yousafzai (2012), Vivienne Harr (2013), Mo’Ne Davis (2014), and Madison Tevlin (2015) as the children making the biggest differences in the world.

Payton, age 10, made $11,000 in just one day with a lemonade stand this summer. Then she gave it all away! Payton was raising money for the families of the police officers killed on July 7 in Dallas. “I wanted to do something,” Payton said. Funds from her stand, “Back the Blue,” went to the families of the fallen officers. “I’m just glad I was able to support them through all the hard things they were going through,” Payton said.

Just keep doing what you’re doing, and show kindness and compassion to other people.

“All of the ‘Kid of the Year’ candidates had great causes,” wrote 14-year-old News-O-Matic reader Katrina. “But Payton should win,” explained the 14-year-old in the News Room. “The fact that she raised $11,000 in just one day is nothing short of amazing.”

“Payton is a sweet young lady with a loving and giving heart,” wrote voter BrookLynn, age 10. “She is always thinking of others!”

“Payton was an inspiration to our entire newsroom in New York City,” said News-O-Matic Editor-in-Chief Russell “Russ” Kahn. “She represents the best of youth engagement,” he explained. “Payton reacted to the news by taking concrete action and found a way to galvanize her community and create a powerful positive reaction.”

Payton didn’t know she was the winner until a school assembly. Her teachers brought her on stage in the auditorium. Kahn broke the news, and the students cheered! Payton had a message for young readers. “Just keep doing what you’re doing,” said the fourth grader. “And show kindness and compassion to other people.”
