  • Keith Urban Issues Emotional Apology After Rumor He Left Nicole Kidman For a ‘Younger Woman in the Business’—’I’m So Sorry’

    [ad_1]

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s divorce has been making news for the last few weeks, since the actress filed for divorce after 19 years together. Part of it is that when the split was first announced, it was just billed as a separation, but the story changed fast. And part of it is that rumors indicate Urban has already moved, and that his new flame is someone significantly younger.

But Urban has been mostly silent in the face of recent rumors. And now, the singer is apologizing to fans, but not for anything to do with his ex. Instead, Urban was due to perform at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C, as part of his 2025 High and Alive World Tour on Thursday, October 16th, but had to cancel the concert and issued an apology.

Keith Urban has been advised by his longtime laryngologist, Dr. Gaelyn Garrett, from the Vanderbilt Voice Center, to cancel his performance in Greenville, SC tomorrow night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena due to laryngitis which began earlier this week. He has been placed on complete vocal rest and Dr. Garrett is optimistic that he will be back onstage for his Nashville show,” the statement read.

But Urban didn’t just leave it a statement, he posted a personal message on his own social media, saying, “Hey Greenville, I’m so SO sorry to have to cancel the show…I know all the logistics it takes to get to a concert these days, and I’ve never taken any of that, or any of YOU, for granted,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting back there when we can!!!!!”

This all comes as rumors are swirling about Urban’s new relationship, something he did not address. “The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a “Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”

Kidman and Urban got married in 2006 and have two children together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. The kids seem to be standing firm behind their mom after she filed for divorce on Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Nashville due to irreconcilable differences. It all makes sense, too, especially considering the reports.

Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop alleged that Kidman was trying to save the marriage and Urban wasn’t interested in that possibility, not even for the sake of his daughters. “Nicole wanted to fight for them, but Keith had already checked out—and she knew why. It wasn’t about distance, schedules, or bad habits. It was about another woman. And Nicole knows who she is,” the columnist reported. Another insider added, “She’s not naïve. She heard the stories; she saw the signs. At some point, the truth becomes impossible to ignore. She’s not going to live as anyone’s second choice.”

And now, the relationship between the two appears irrevocably broken. Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop alleges that Kidman and Urban are “only speaking through lawyers,” with a source saying, “It’s icy. They’re not even texting. Everything — custody, property, money — runs through the lawyers.”

Pretty understandable, but still very hard. Especially for their daughters.

  • Nicole Kidman Is Reportedly 1 Step Closer to Getting Back Together With a Famous Ex Amid Keith Urban Divorce—He’s the ‘Perfect Person’

    [ad_1]

One of the tried-and-true ways to get over heartbreak is to find a rebound. And after Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s divorce, there have been a lot of rumors about Urban allegedly moving on quite quickly, and with someone much younger than him. So, it comes as no surprise that now the spotlight has moved to Kidman, and whether she is ready to move on too.

Reportedly, her friends have one candidate. Her former fiancé Lenny Kravitz. “Nicole’s friends are telling her that the best thing she can do for herself is to start having fun again,” a source told the National Enquirer. “And Lenny seems like the perfect person to help her do that!”

Related: Do Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have a prenup?

The two were briefly engaged in 2003, but Kidman revealed to Vanity Fair in 2007 that they didn’t marry because “I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.” Now might just be the time, though. If not for marriage, at least for something else.

“By all accounts the red-hot chemistry they had has never gone away. It just makes sense to give it another whirl,” the source said. “Who knows where it could lead? Maybe at this stage in life things could work out for them long-term.” Along with Kravitz, Kidman was also married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. They share daughter Isabella Jane and son Connor Antony.

All of this comes after reports by Globe that Kidman plans on “hooking up with someone young and hot, herself,” particularly considering the recent reports on Urban. “The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a “Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”

The relationship between the exes is reportedly about as bad as it could be. Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop alleges that the two are “only speaking through lawyers,” with a source saying, “It’s icy. They’re not even texting. Everything — custody, property, money — runs through the lawyers.”

And things were reportedly not doing well for a while. “They were always touchy-feely in public, but things have been off for a long time,” another source explained. “They were living separate lives,” a Nashville insider shared. “Love couldn’t survive the logistics.”

Globe also reported that the way Urban has handled the breakup is weighing heavy on Kidman. “Keith is refusing to come clean about what’s really going on, but everyone is saying that there’s another woman and all the signs are pointing to it being this 25-year-old guitar player,” the source said, referring to Maggie Baugh.

“It’s completely devastating for Nicole that he would abandon her and their marriage like this, but then, when you add in this element of it being for a woman less than half her age, the knife twists deeper,” the source explained, which might explain reports that Kidman wants to find someone new “to make Keith jealous and make him regret letting her go.”

“Her friends are hoping that once she actually does get with another man, it will take her mind off Keith and help her get past this betrayal,” the source also said. And hey, if that person ends up being Lenny Kravitz, maybe it’s a sign that things were always meant to come full circle.

  • Nicole Kidman Just Detailed Feeling ‘Broken’ as Keith Urban Moves on With a Younger Woman: ‘Devastating’

    [ad_1]

Nicole Kidman is taking adulthood— and divorce—one step at a time. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she opened up about beauty routines as a Clé de Peau Beauté and the unconventional wisdom that might be applicable to her divorce from Keith Urban.

When asked about what age she felt in her head, she actually responded that she embraces aging. “As I get older, I want to be able to share and impart the things I’ve learned,” she told the publication. “I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, and I’ve survived a lot. I want to pass on some of that knowledge and that wisdom and whatever I’ve learned. It’s more about sharing your own experiences, saying, ‘This is what I’ve learned, take from it what you will.’ ”

Related: Keith Urban’s Guitarist’s Suspicious Dating Comments Resurface Amid Nicole Kidman ‘Other Woman’ Rumors

She elaborated more when she was asked about the best part of growing old. “The best part is the experiences that you’ve accumulated. So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now.’ Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’”

One particular statement rings true to her breakup right now. “There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through, she says. “You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly—and it can take an enormous amount of time—it does pass.”

Kidman filed for divorce on Sept. 30 after news broke of their split the previous day.  The Baby Girl actress was reportedly “blindsided” by their breakup. “Keith has not been honest,” a source told People. “She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on. It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”

The insider noted that “their split is turning dramatic” and that Nicole is “hurt and feels betrayed.”

TMZ reported there might already be another woman in Urban’s life. “All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman,” a source told the site. “Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.” A source close to Kidman said, “It’s all over Nashville.”

“The rumor is that he’s with a younger woman in the business,” a “Nashville music industry source told Daily Mail. “It’s all everyone is talking about. Everyone wants to know who, but so far, that’s a mystery.”

Kidman seemingly alluded to the breakup in a Vogue cover story. “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?” she asked. To which Kidman immediately respnded that she “leans on” her “ride-or die” friendships with her Nashville neighbors for support, like Reese Witherspoon and a doctor who works at Vanderbilt Hospital.

Sources also say that she’s leaning on her daughters, Sunday Rose, 17 and Faith Margaret, 14, during the difficult time.  “While Keith has been away on tour all summer, Nicole and her daughters have been inseparable, spending time together bonding,” an insider told People. “Now the focus is back to school in Nashville, where Nic has been getting the girls ready for the new year.” The actress accompanied her girls to Paris Fashion Week the week after the news of her split.

  • Houston Concert Watch 10/8: Keith Urban, Lumineers and More – Houston Press

    [ad_1]

Following the death of drummer Neal Peart in 2020, it appeared that Rush would follow the lead of Led Zeppelin (another band who lost a drummer) and disband, so as to avoid damaging a stellar legacy.  Remaining Rush members Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have been firm on their stance, but it has been reported that, over cocktails, Sir Paul McCartney cajoled Lifeson into getting back on stage.

So Rush is (sort of) back, and the band is planning a brief tour of 12 dates in seven cities across North American next summer, with drummer Anika Nilles, who has played with Jeff Beck, behind the kit.  No, Houston is not on the list.  However, Rush will play two nights in Fort Worth at the Dickies Arena on Wednesday, June 24, and Friday, June 26.  You can register (by 11:59 p.m. Thursday) here for Ticketmaster presales, which begin on Monday, October 13, but there are other sales (credit card holders, etc.) which begin this Friday.  Complete information is available at rush.com.

    Ticket Alert

Former Geto Boy and one-time Houston City Council candidate Scarface will perform at the Bayou Music Center on Friday, November 14.  The presale begins tomorrow, with the general sale on Friday.

Kenny G is not only a best-selling instrumental artist, but – to use the words of Bob Eucker –
“this guy can get it out of the sand trap like nobody’s fuckin’ business!”  Presale tickets for the saxophonist / top-ranked celebrity golfer’s appearance on Sunday, February 10, at the Smart Financial Centre are available now, and the great unwashed will be able to purchase ducats on Friday.

While it may seem kind of strange to buy tickets for a concert that is over a year away, that’s what is going on with Doja Cat’s performance scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Toyota Center.  Her “Tour Ma Vie” will promote the forthcoming album Vie, with the artist presale today, the Live Nation presale on Thursday, and the general sale on Friday.  As you might imagine, VIP packages are available as well.

It’s a busy week for shows in Houston, starting with Wet Leg on the lawn Thursday at the White Oak Music Hall, part of the band’s “North American Moistourizer” tour.  Wet Leg began as a duo former by frontwomen Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, who released the single “Chaise Longue” in 2021 and won a Grammy after millions of online views and listens.  If the line “Is your muffin buttered? / Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?” from “Chaise Longue” sounds familiar, that’s because it is a quote from the film Mean Girls.

Suicide Boys will play Toyota Center on Friday.  Lyrically, these guys hit a number of hot buttons in the world of psychology: suicidal ideation, depression, and God knows what.  The Boys might well benefit from a checkup from the neck up, as Kinky Friedman used to say.

After performing a mix of styles (singer-songwriter, rock, electronic) in their early days, the Lumineers eventually settled into an Americana / neo-folk groove, and prosperity followed.  You can catch them at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Friday.  ‘Cause Knowledge is Power: In its early years the band used a number of handles, including Free Beer and Cheek 6.  The current name arrived when a club emcee became confused and introduced them as another band, who went by the name of Lumineers, and it stuck.

Soooo, we’ll get to see how Keith Urban is bearing up after his wife, Nicole Kidman, filed for divorce when he performs at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Saturday.  The gossip has been swirling over the past week regarding Urban’s rumored fondness for guitarist Maggie Baugh, who recently played with Urban’s band at his gig in Chicago.  In other news, Kidman just debuted a new hairstyle at Fashion Week in Paris, so it sounds like the situation is really getting serious here.

Michael Schenker is many things: mercurial, flaky, and one hell of a guitar player.  While Schenker’s older brother Rudolf has steadily led the Scorpions for 60 (!) years, the younger Schenker has done two stints in that band and three in UFO.  The story is that he was asked to replace Randy Rhoades in Ozzy Osbourne’s band but couldn’t come to terms regarding his requested fringe benefits, which supposedly included the use of a private jet.  Schenker will play at the White Oak Music Hall on Sunday, and my guess is that he will arrive by bus.

A question that used to be asked in show biz circles when an act’s mass appeal was called into question was, “Yes, but will it play in Peoria?”  So let’s apply the query to a mixture of prog-ish metal, costumes, face / body paint and a general horror movie vibe.  In the case of Mudvayne, a band comprised of guys from Peoria, the answer is a resounding “yes.”  You can catch them at the Bayou Music Center on Monday.

  • Nicole Kidman makes first public appearance since Keith Urban divorce filing

Nicole Kidman put on a brave face Saturday, just days after she filed for divorce from Keith Urban.

The Oscar-winning actress was on hand to present Taylor Sheridan with the Award of Inspiration at the amfAR Dallas Gala.

Kidman, 58, rocked a long black gown for her first public appearance following the end of her 19-year marriage with Urban, 57.

The “Let It Roll” singer was seen on Thursday ahead of his gig at the Giant Center in Hershey as part of his “High and Alive” tour. Urban was seen without his wedding band in the pictures.

KEITH URBAN SEEN FOR FIRST TIME SINCE NICOLE KIDMAN DIVORCE FILING

Days before Kidman filed for divorce from Urban, Maggie Baugh — a 25-year-old country star who is currently on tour with Urban and his band — posted an eyebrow-raising video from a recent show that left fans questioning the nature of her relationship with the country star.

“When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player,” Urban sang onstage — replacing the original line, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.”

She wrote in her caption, “Did he just say that,” accompanied by the eyes emoji.

However, according to People, Urban often ad-libs when performing the song live. For example, while singing “The Fighter” with Carrie Underwood at the 2017 CMT Music Awards, he interjected, “Carrie Underwood, I’m gonna be your fighter!”

While an insider confirmed to Fox News Digital that there have been whispers of another woman, TMZ was first to report that the country star may already be involved with someone else, with a source close to Kidman saying, “All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.”

  • Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s Split Happened This Summer—and It’s “Turning Dramatic”

    [ad_1]

In January, the actress told W magazine that the secret to “a successful marriage” is “separate commodes and a double-headed shower,” adding that she often hears Urban singing in the shower. But in July, the singer pulled the plug on a Zoom interview with Hayley & Max in the Morning, right as the host asked how he deals with his wife’s high-voltage sex scenes.

Additional sources have told TMZ that the couple has been living apart “since the beginning of summer.” Legal filings reviewed by the Guardian include a marriage dissolution and childcare plan submitted for a Tennessee judge’s approval. The documents indicated that that Urban signed the details of the plan on August 29, while Kidman added her signature one week later.

“The plan asks that Kidman be the primary residential parent to the couple’s two daughters, ages 17 and 14, having them for 306 days per year with Urban taking them for the other 59,” the outlet add. The documents indicate that there will be no spousal support and that the marital dissolution plan will entail an equal division of the common assets.

    [ad_1]

Actress Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from her husband, country musician Keith Urban, after nearly 20 years of marriage, according to court documents obtained Tuesday by CBS News.

The documents show that the 58-year-old Kidman filed for divorce Monday from the 57-year-old Urban in Davidson County Circuit Court in Nashville, Tennessee, where the couple resides.

She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason, per the court documents.

A separate marital dissolution agreement signed by both Kidman and Urban shows that the two reached a co-parenting arrangement that will see Kidman serve as the “primary residential parent” of their two teenage daughters, with Urban having visitation and other rights.

As part of their agreement, both are required to attend a parent education class within 60 days.

CBS News has reached out to both Kidman and Urban’s representatives for comment.

Kidman and Urban began dating in 2005 and married in 2006 in Australia, where they are both from.

“Meeting her and getting married was just, wasn’t life changing, it was life beginning,” Urban told CBS Sunday Morning of Kidman in a 2016 interview. “It was literally, like, ‘OK, life starts.’”

And in a separate 2016 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Kidman recounted how Urban rushed to her side following the death of her father in 2014, abandoning a concert in Nashville and flying to California to be with her.

“I didn’t even know how to get up from this,” Kidman said at the time, saying she got through it “because I had a husband who came right back.”

“I called him screaming and crying, and he was about to go on stage, and he walked off stage, and he got on a plane — he’d just gotten there — he flew six hours, and he was right back,” Kidman said.

Last December, Kidman offered a glimpse into their home life, saying that the family tries to have breakfast together every morning, even with Kidman and Urban’s busy schedules.

“Even with what I’ve got now, I’ve been able to juggle things to accommodate my family, which is a fantastic thing,” Kidman told CBS News at the time. “I enjoy my home, and I enjoy my family, and I enjoy my work.”

Kidman, one of the world’s biggest movie stars, was previously married to actor Tom Cruise for a little over a decade, with whom she shares two adopted children. She is known for films including “Moulin Rouge,” “Eyes Wide Shut” and “The Hours,” for which she won an Oscar for best actress in 2003.

This is the first marriage for Urban, who has been one of country music’s most well-known acts for decades. He has won four Grammys and served as a judge on “American Idol” for several seasons.

  • Keith Urban’s Subtle Response to Nicole Kidman’s Sex Scenes Resurface After Their Shocking Split—She ‘Didn’t Want This’

    [ad_1]

One of Hollywood’s famous couples have called it quits. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have reportedly split after 19 years of marriage.

Urban had been married to Nicole Kidman since 2006. The two met in 2005, and though Kidman was instantly charmed, Urban didn’t call her back for months. “I had such a crush on him and he wasn’t interested in me. It’s true!” Kidman told Ellen DeGeneres in 2017. “He didn’t call me for four months.”

The ex-couple share two daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Urban gushed about his relationship to CBS News in 2016, saying, “Meeting [Nicole] and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning. It was literally, like, ‘Okay, life starts.” Kidman, meanwhile, told CBS Mornings in 2022, “I met him later in life and it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Why did Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban break up?

The exact reasoning behind Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s breakup hasn’t been revealed. However, it didn’t seem like it was a mutual split “She didn’t want this,” a source told People. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”

“Nicole’s sister has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source continued.

TMZ was the first to report about the breakup with sources saying that the ex-couple have been living apart “since the beginning of summer.”

E! News reported that Urban was trying to be a resident of Portugal earlier in the summer. “Keith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the U.S.,” the source explained, “and it is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa. He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”

In July 2025, Keith Urban was hung up on a “very tricky … deeply personal” question about Nicole Kidman’s sex scenes with Zac Efron in A Family Affair on Mix 102.3’s “Hayley & Max in the Morning” show.. The singer “disconnected from Zoom” according to a producer on the show, to Page Six.

A source told New Idea earlier in the year that Keith was worried about his wife’s work ethic. “It’s extraordinary. Not even a month later and already she’s back on set. Keith isn’t angry, but he’s worried and understandably very frustrated,” the source claimed to the publication.

“He knows how much Nic loves her job, but she keeps moving the goal posts. Instead of putting herself first – something he and the kids need her to do – she’s putting work first every time.”

  • Keith Urban plays free pop-up concert outside a Buc-ee’s store in Alabama

    [ad_1]

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) — Country singer Keith Urban gave just a few hours’ notice before performing a free concert Friday night in the parking lot of a large convenience store and gas station in north Alabama.

About 5,500 people turned out for the show in Athens, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) south of Nashville, said Athens Police Department Capt. Brett Constable. The concert was outside a Buc-ee’s, a chain of roadside stores known for barbecue.

“I came down to this Buc-ee’s about a month ago. And when I left, I went, ‘It’d be kind of fun to do a show there,’” Urban told the crowd during the concert, according to an Instagram video posted by WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama.

Urban said his “cave man brain” told him it would be fun to set up a little stage for a small audience.

“I swear to you, I thought maybe 100, 200 people,” Urban said as a video showed a larger crowd.

People started gathering hours before the show, news outlets reported.

“I was at work and we heard it on the radio that there was going to be a surprise concert at Buc-ee’s in Athens,” Cindy Wilson told FOX 54 WZDX-TV in Huntsville. “And I was like, ’Oh my God, it’s on my way home.’ And it’s 15 minutes from my house. So I couldn’t believe it.”

While he was at the store, Urban also worked behind a food counter. A video showed him wearing a Buc-ee’s T-shirt and apron as he poured barbecue sauce on some brisket and chopped the meat into smaller pieces.

  • Inside the AFI Awards Gala Honoring Nicole Kidman

On a balmy April evening in Hollywood, the stars aligned to honor one of cinema’s most acclaimed talents: Nicole Kidman. At the iconic Dolby Theatre, the Australian actress reached rarified air, becoming only the 49th recipient of the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award in its nearly 50-year history. Kidman is the first Australian, and one of the youngest, to receive this highest honor.

The festivities began back in November 2022, when it was announced Kidman would join the ranks of previous AFI honorees like Bette Davis, Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Poitier and Tom Hanks. After postponement due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the ceremony finally took place on April 27. The televised tribute, airing on TNT on June 17, celebrated Kidman’s career through film clips and testimonials from her co-stars.

In the days preceding this grand convocation, Kidman stoked anticipation by sharing intimate behind-the-scenes shots on Instagram alongside some of the illustrious presenters—her dear friends and frequent collaborators Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Morgan Freeman and Naomi Watts. “Just a few of the people I can’t wait to see again on Saturday,” the actress teased in the heartwarming snaps, whetting appetites for the emotional reunions to come.

On the Dolby red carpet, Kidman stunned in a gold Balenciaga gown with a five-inch train, accessorized solely with gold rings and a one-of-a-kind 26mm De Ville Mini Trésor watch from Omega in Moonshine Gold, pavéd with glittering diamonds and emerald hour markers. She was joined by husband Keith Urban and daughters Sunday and Faith, marking their first public appearance with the actress.

The evening’s festivities kicked off with 2011 AFI honoree Morgan Freeman setting the tone in a video spoof of Kidman’s infamous AMC Theatres “we make movies better” ad. His quip, “Nicole Kidman. She makes movies better,” resonated with everyone who took the stage to honor the actress that night. A lineup of celebrities paid tribute, including Zac Efron, Zoe Saldana and a disguised Mike Myers, who slinked onstage donning one of the eerie orgy masks from Eyes Wide Shut. In a recorded Zoom segment, fellow Aussies Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman engaged in cheeky banter with Jimmy Fallon, collectively praising Kidman while playfully joshing that Blanchett should have been the first Australian honored.

The most emotional highlights came from Kidman’s loved ones. Her husband brought her to tears saying she showed him “what love in action really looks like” when his substance abuse issues arose shortly after their 2006 wedding. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are, 18 years later.”

Big Little Lies co-star Witherspoon lauded Kidman’s collaborative talents as a producer, recalling how their hit show materialized from their shared desire to bring it to life. “Instead of fighting it out in court or some televised Las Vegas boxing match, we decided to team up. Because there’s one thing Nicole knows very, very well—there’s power in collaboration and even more power in sisterhood,” Witherspoon explained, adding, “That’s why I’m here tonight, sister. I want to thank you for being a friend and the best colleague ever.”

Streep, who presented Kidman with the Life Achievement Award after receiving it herself in 2004 for The Hours, poked fun at being “incessantly called the greatest actress of my generation.” She revealed the hardest part is facing someone “really, really, really, really, really, really great” like Kidman, who did things Streep couldn’t on Big Little Lies. Still, Streep assured Kidman her best work lies ahead.

In her speech, Kidman expressed gratitude to the directors, living and late, who enabled her unconventional roles, name-checking Stanley Kubrick, Lars von Trier, Baz Luhrmann, Jane Campion, Yorgos Lanthimos and Sydney Pollack. “It is a privilege to make films. And glorious to have made films and television with these storytellers who allowed me to run wild and be free and play all of these unconventional women,” she said, adding, “Thank you for making me better at my craft and giving me a place, however temporary, in this world.”

As Hollywood royalty congregated to enshrine Kidman’s legacy, it was clear this revered actress’s cinematic journey has reached immortal heights. Just as opening speaker Morgan Freeman serenaded the radiant star with a line from one of her most beloved musical roles in Moulin Rouge!, prophetically intoning: “How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world.” For this cinematic luminary, the brightest adventures still lie ahead.
