At the time, many royal jewelry experts offered explanations as to why the Princess of Wales might have switched from an engagement ring to a stack of eternity bands. “Royal women wear their engagement rings in different ways, just like the rest of us,” said Lauren Kiehna, founder of The Court Jeweller, to People. Indeed, Queen Letizia of Spain, Meghan Markle, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, have all been known to take off their engagement rings for protracted periods of time.
However, Kate’s most prized piece of jewelry was firmly back on her finger for this most sombre royal occasion. The Duchess of Kent’s coffin was taken by hearse from Kensington Palace to Westminster Cathedral on Monday, September 15, where the Rite of Reception and Vespers took place, on the eve of the Requiem Mass. In a sign of the respect the Duchess of Kent earned from the royal family, her coffin was transported in the Royal Hearse, designed by Queen Elizabeth II, and draped in the Royal Standard.
The service was attended by the Duchess’ immediate family, with Prince Edward supported by the couple’s three children and 10 grandchildren. The following day, the whole royal family came together to honor and remember the Duchess of Kent, with his majesty the king, Prince William, the Princess of Wales, Prince Andrew and others coming together for a Requiem Mass. The Duchess became the first royal to convert to Catholicism for more than 300 years, and was honored with the first royal funeral at Westminster Cathedral since its construction in 1903.

The royal family has welcomed Donald Trump to Windsor Castle for his historic second state visit, with both the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, and Queen Camilla opting Wednesday to wear highly poignant brooches for the occasion.
Kate Middleton adorned her monochrome burgundy look with an heirloom brooch featuring Prince of Wales Feathers, in recognition of her title and position within the royal family. The brooch features a diamond-encrusted Prince of Wales Three Feathers emblem encircled with more diamonds, with emeralds and rubies dotted throughout, royal authority The Court Jeweller noted. The brooch has historically been worn by the woman married to the Prince of Wales. On this outing, the Princess chose not to wear the additional single emerald drop that can be added to the piece.
The Prince of Wales Feathers brooch has been worn a number of times by Queen Camilla, including to Cheltenham Ladies’ Day in 2012, despite Camilla never using the title of Princess of Wales on a formal basis. It was also sported by the late Princess Diana, although she preferred to wear it as a pendant on a necklace. It brought sparkle to her ensemble for an outing to the Royal Festival Hall in 1996, and on an outing to the Royal Opera House in 1982 that was recreated in The Crown. The late princess also wore the necklace on a state visit to Austria in 1986.
The brooch also has a fascinating royal history, notes The Royal Watcher. It was given to Queen Alexandra as a gift for her wedding to King Edward VII in March 1863.

Kate Middleton and Melania Trump are more similar than they thought after their first joint engagement during the first lady’s State Visit with her husband, President Donald Trump.
The Princess of Wales and first lady of the United States were seen together at the gardens of Frogmore House at the Windsor estate on Thursday, September 18, where they were joined by Chief Scout Dwayne Feilds and Squirrel Scouts between the ages of 4 and 6. The group took part in outdoor activities, including a parachute game, painting leaves that the kids had collected, and building bug hotels.
“The Princess of Wales is absolutely incredible with our young people. I’ve seen her work with them before — she interacts very personably, she loves to exchange stories and she loves to talk to them and hear the same,” Fields told People after the engagement.
“The princess always mentions her young children,” Fields continued, referring to Kate’s three kids with Prince William: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. “It’s clear that as a mum, that’s something really special to her. She recognizes that sharing stories about her own young people with young people is a great way to build a connection.”

Fields also explained how Melania was “similar” during her engagement with Kate. “Melania was very similar,” he said. “She was engaging, she asked lots of questions and the young people were willing to talk to her. And they even made some artwork together. It was really great to see and really great to have her to take the message back to the U.S. and what she’s seen us in the U.K. doing. This is the home of Scouts, and this is where it started, and for her to be able to take back what she experienced here is great. She said she really enjoyed and remarked that some of the artwork took her back to when she was younger.”
Fields also told a funny story about how one of the Scouts mistook Melania for a princess like Kate. “They knew they were coming to meet the princess, and one of the young asked Mrs. Trump: ‘Are you the next princess?’ ” Fields said. “That gives an idea of how little they knew about the situation.”
As for Melania and Kate’s relationship, Fields also shared that the two were “amazingly warm” with each other. “They gave so much of themselves. It is easy for the young people to be overwhelmed, but they were settled and calm and enjoyed the day,” he said.
He also explained how they related to each other as mothers. “The princess shared a story about her kids and collecting things like conkers when they go for walks,” he said. “For me, that was very much in line with what the young people were talking about and another example of her making it very personable and inviting the young people into who she is and the fact that she is a mum as well — as is Mrs. Trump.”
However, their similarities didn’t stop there. “We walked in on the young Squirrels who were using leaves and other items they’d found. The princess didn’t stand over them, but she immediately sat down on the grass with them. She brought herself down to their physical level, and when she spoke to them, she looked into their eyes and connected what they were saying to something she’s experienced,” Fields said. “Melania did something similar. She sat down on the chair, and when she was speaking with the young people, there was lots of eye contact and lots of questions about them and how they were doing. It was very inviting to the young people, and they were receptive to it and responded really well.”
News of Kate and Melania’s relationship comes after the first lady was accused of not curtsying toward King Charles and Queen Camilla when meeting them on September 17 on the Windsor estate grounds. Her husband also didn’t bow toward the royal couple.
While Donald and Melania faced backlash for not bowing or curstying toward the late Queen Elizabeth when they visited Windsor Castle in 2018—with one X user claiming they had “no class”—most fans have had a different opinion during the Trumps’ second visit, with many noting that there’s no official rule that people need to abide to when meeting members of the British royal family.
“There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms,” the royal family’s official website states. “For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.”

No U.S. president had ever gotten to see the Princess of Wales in a tiara twice—until Kate Middleton greeted Donald Trump at Wednesday’s Buckingham Palace banquet.
Six years after his first state trip to the United Kingdom, President Trump has made another visit to the royal family. This is one more state visit to the U.K. than any other American president has made—an “unprecedented” honor, in the words of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and hopefully a diplomatic relief amid the trade crisis over Trump’s tariffs. Trump called King Charles III “a wonderful man” in February, when Starmer handed him the king’s invitation for another state visit. Later, Trump reduced the tariffs he imposed on the U.K.
The first day of this Trump trip began with the arrival of the president and first lady Melania at Windsor Castle, and had its climax with the traditional gala dinner offered there in his honor by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Queen Camilla, who recovered from the sinusitis that kept her away from Tuesday’s funeral for the Duchess of Kent, wore the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, one of the most spectacular from the royal collection, and an elegant blue dress. But let’s not kid ourselves. With apologies to Melania Trump—who wore a unique yellow dress with a purple sash—it was once again Kate Middleton who took the cake at a state banquet. She graced Buckingham Palace’s great dining room in the Lover’s Knot tiara, a favorite of Princess Diana, and a majestic white lace dress by British designer Phillipa Lepley with a hand-embroidered overdress.
“How beautiful,” Trump said to Princess of Wales at their first meeting this afternoon.

Speaking directly to the Prince and Princess, the President said that William had “an unbelievably successful future” ahead of him and that it was wonderful to see Princess Catherine, whom he affectionately called Kate, looking “so radiant so healthy and so beautiful.”
“It seems as though Trump has an eye on the future generation,” says Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine. “He’s obviously genuinely impressed by William and who wouldn’t be impressed by Kate. She looked incredible. It seems a lot of effort has been made for the Trumps and the Waleses to spend some time together on this trip.”
Trump, an anglophile and huge fan of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was said to be looking forward to this state visit more than any other. It is the first time he has seen Charles since he was crowned king and his second meeting with Prince William, who he met with last year in Paris. The president heaped praise on William, telling reporters he was “doing a fantastic job.”
“I would expect that William and Catherine would have been quite touched and maybe a bit taken aback by so many compliments,” adds Seward. “It’s very flattering to have someone as powerful as Trump praising you and treating you like a very special friend. It’s unusual for the Head of State to be that personal, but it’s Trump’s style.
“The royals have to deal with so many dullards, Trump is actually really refreshing. He’s outspoken and quite exciting to be around because you don’t know what’s going to happen. Catherine looked quite taken aback when he praised her so personally. She looked a bit embarrassed, but that’s Trump. I think the royals are probably amused and bemused by it all.”
During Wednesday’s dinner in Windsor, Trump made a point about being the only US president in history to be granted the privilege of two state visits and joked about hoping he would be the only one to make King Charles laugh.
A source close to the king told Vanity Fair that Charles has said the state visit “could not be better.”
Adds the source, “I understand that His Majesty the King is thrilled about the visit and very pleased with the global optics of it all. The Royal Family really did pull out all the stops.”
Charles was equally effusive in his speech on Wednesday, pointing out that he had made 20 visits to the US and cherishes the special relationship between the two countries, calling it an “enduring bond.” He also joked about Trump’s love of British soil and golf courses.

Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton’s awkward moment with first lady Melania Trump may have a deeper meaning as reports about the royals’ “tense relationship” resurface.
The moment between Camilla, Kate, and Melania came on September 17, 2025, as Camilla and her husband, King Charles, greeted Melania and her husband, President Donald Trump, as they arrived at Windsor Castle. Kate and her husband, Prince William, were the first of the British royal family to greet the Trumps before accompanying them to Victoria House, where Charles and Camilla were waiting to welcome the first couple.
Related: Queen Camilla looked so much different when she was young
In a video of the meeting, Donald and Melania are greeted by Charles and Camilla, as well as private secretaries Sir Clive Alderton and Sophie Densham, when the president and king turn toward each other to speak privately. Camilla and Melania followed with their own private conversation, as William and Kate approached the foursome. William joined Charles and Donald’s conversation, while Kate joined Camilla and Melania.
The video continued with Kate and Melania talking as Camilla watched and looked around. A few moments later, Camilla motioned for Kate to move with a sweep of he hand, which Kate obliged to before saying goodbye to Melania and stepping away to walk toward William. Camilla and Melania then spoke for a moment as the whole group stood in a line, creating a path for horse-drawn carriages to approach to take them to Windsor Castle.
The moment also comes after a source told Us Weekly in November 2024 of Kate and Camilla’s secret “tense relationship” due to the different ways they approach the crown. According to the insider, Camilla has been vocal behind closed doors that Charles should be king for as long as he can. “She loves her responsibilities,” the insider said. “Her whole life, she has always wanted to be queen, so she doesn’t want to let it go so fast.”
The source also claimed that Camilla is especially hesitant to pass her responsibilities over to Kate, who is set to succeed her as Queen Consort once William, the next in line for the British throne, becomes king. “They’ve always had a tense relationship,” the insider said.
Royal expert and Power and the Palace author Valentine Low also told GB News in September 2025 that Camilla’s personality is “completely different” from Kate. “Kate is a completely different person to Camilla. She’s very controlled and cautious, and careful,” he said. “Camilla is much more outgoing. She says what she thinks, she’s incredibly engaging, Camilla, and funny. That’s not to say Kate can’t be funny in private, but you know, it’s much more obviously the case with Camilla.”

US President Donald Trump has made no secret that one of the reasons he wanted a second state visit to the UK was because of his affinity for the British royal family. He’s talked about his friendship with King Charles and Queen Camilla, and diplomacy-wise, that’s likely one of the main reasons the visit is taking place as the UK looks to cement its ties with the UK. But there have been multiple reports that the secret weapon during the visit would be the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
Perhaps with good reason, considering President Trump complimented Middleton during the official welcome for the state visit. The President and First Lady were greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales on the grounds of Windsor Castle. “You’re beautiful, so beautiful,” the President told Middleton as they shook hands, according to PEOPLE.

The US President has also previously complimented Prince William. “He’s a good looking guy. He looked really, very handsome last night,” Trump told The New York Post about his meeting with the Prince of Wales following the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in December 2024.
“Some people look better in person? He looked great. He looked really nice, and I told him that,” Trump said then.
The visit by the US President and First Lady was described by Ingrid Seward, author of My Mother and I: The Inside Story of the King and Our Late Queen, to Newsweek in terms of its importance. “This is a very high stakes state visit. The frill on the frock is the royalty.”
Previously, British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that Middleton would “play a pivotal role during the state visit.” The schedule released for the visit showcases both the Prince and Princess of Wales, but gives Middleton a special place with a planned joint appearance with the US First Lady.
“This unprecedented state visit is brilliant for U.K. and U.S. relations,” royals expert Hilary Fordwich told the outlet. “William and Kate’s increased prominence isn’t at all by accident. It is carefully curated, highly intentional, and aims to cement their significance not just in the U.K. and U.S.’s special relationship, but the entire future stability and international importance of the monarchy,” she added.
Reports indicated Kate Middleton’s pivotal role had a lot to do with not just that, but also how President Trump saw her. Royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror that about the subject that, “Catherine will be the icing on the cake for a man as vain as Donald Trump. To be seen with her will be gold dust in his eyes. And I’m sure she will be there to massage his ego in the most diplomatic, subtle and regal way.”
Donald Trump is the first U.S. president to be invited for two separate state visits by a British monarch, in his two presidential terms. Queen Elizabeth II first hosted the President and first lady in 2019.

Because the Duchess of Kent, who died on September 5 at the age of 92, spent the last few decades of her life in private life, she was the matriarch to a wing of the royal family that doesn’t always attend public events. Her funeral mass on Tuesday included her husband, the Duke of Kent, as well as King Charles III, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Princess Anne. (Queen Camilla bowed out Tuesday morning due to sinusitis.) But those familiar working royals were also joined by members of the extended Windsor clan, including a few who have made a name for themselves as influencers.
Two of the Duchess’s granddaughters, Lady Amelia and Lady Marina Windsor, entered the church with their father, George Windsor, the Earl of St. Andrews. Amelia, a model and freelance writer with a sizable Instagram following, wore a black shift dress and a hat rimmed with ostrich feathers. Marina, who announced her engagement over the summer, arrived without her fiancé, Nico Macauley. They were joined by their older brother, Edward, Lord Downpatrick, who is the heir to the Dukedom of Kent and currently owns a travel company.
During Tuesday’s Requiem Mass, William and Kate also reunited with one of the bridesmaids at their April 2011 wedding: Margarita Armstrong-Jones, the granddaughter of Princess Margaret. She arrived with her father, the Earl of Snowdon, who currently serves as the president of the King’s Foundation, the charitable organization that Charles founded to help support young people in the early stages of their careers.
Though these wings of the family are further away from official royal work, they have all attended major royal events in the past, and their royal connections have helped them launch their careers. Margarita, Amelia, and Marina have all modeled for Tatler and share glimpses of their lives online. In her May 2023 cover story for the outlet, Margarita revealed that she is studying at Paris’s Haute École de Joaillerie, and that she has taken after her late grandfather, Antony Armstrong-Jones, as a photographer and jewelry maker. On her Instagram account, she shares photos of her handmade bracelets and necklaces.
The Earl of St. Andrews’s younger sister, Lady Helen Taylor, was joined by her husband, Timothy Taylor, and their four children, Columbus, Cassius, Eloise, and Estella. The Duke and Duchess of Kent’s youngest son Lord Nicholas Windsor, who is known for writing essays about the Catholic faith he shared with his mother, also attended the funeral with his sons, 18-year-old Albert and 16-year-old Leopold.
Because the Duke of Kent and his siblings lost their father at a young age, they were close to the late Queen Elizabeth II until the end of her life. Another one of their royal first cousins, Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, attended Tuesday’s funeral along with his wife, Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, and their daughter, Lady Rose Gilman.
Perhaps befitting the Duchess’s red-carpet appearances in the 1970s, the funeral mass was also attended by celebrities from a different era, including race car driver Jackie Stewart, actresses Rula Lenska and Dame Maureen Lipman from the long-running soap opera Coronation Street, and novelist and politician Jeffrey Archer, as well as his wife, Mary.

Kate Middleton and Melania Trump will appear in public for a joint engagement this week. The two leading ladies are scheduled to make a public outing together during President Donald Trump’s state visit to the United Kingdom.
The head of state and his wife will be in Britain from September 16 to 18. On September 17, Prince William and Kate Middleton will officially welcome the couple upon their arrival at Windsor Castle, then accompany them to a meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
After the formal welcome, the Prince and Princess of Wales will join the Trumps and British monarchs for a carriage procession through Windsor to the castle, where the state visit will officially take place.
A Guard of Honor inspection and military march are scheduled. Following that, there will be a luncheon in the castle and a special exhibition of objects from the Royal Collection relating to the United States. In the evening, Charles and Camilla will hold a state banquet at Windsor, where they will be joined by with Kate, William and other members of the royal family.
As Prince and Princess of Wales since King Charles ascended the throne, William and Kate play a prominent role in state visits and will continue to do so on this occasion.
Kate Middleton and Melania Trump’s public outing is scheduled for September 18. The two will travel to Frogmore Gardens in Windsor, where they will join UK Scoutmaster Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program. Kate, who was a Scout as a child, has been co-president of the Scout Association since 2020.
Before her engagement with Kate, Melania is also planning an outing with Camilla to visit Queen Mary’s Dollhouse and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle together.

It is thought that William was incensed about Harry’s comments to the BBC, in which he said he did not know how long his father had left to live after being diagnosed with cancer. William was said to find the comments deeply offensive and insensitive.
The brothers have barely spoken in the past two years following the publication of Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, in which he revealed how he and William had come to physical blows and had been sibling rivals for decades. William was also deeply upset when Harry alleged that Kate had not been welcoming to Meghan and that there had been an issue when Meghan had asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss.
William is understood to have been against his father’s meeting with Harry this week, because he is fearful that private family conversations will not remain confidential. Though Harry revealed intimate details of family conversations in Spare, King Charles believes it is time to move on and wants to bring Harry in from the cold.
As Vanity Fair reported this week, while Charles is open to a truce, the ball is in Harry’s court: He must prove to his father that he can be trusted.
Meanwhile, Harry hopes that this latest visit to the UK will lead to him being able to return more often if the issue over his security can be resolved. After losing a High Court case and appeal for government-funded police protection, Harry, no longer a working royal, has to fund his own protection. However, this week’s visit showed he can work and travel safely in the country.
While in the UK, Prince Harry traveled to Windsor and Nottingham as well as around the capital, carrying out official engagements with a number of his charities, including WellChild and the Diana Award. On Friday, Harry made a surprise visit to Ukraine on his way home in a show of solidarity to the country. Accompanied by a team from the Invictus Games Foundation, Harry visited Kyiv and met with veterans to outline how the charity plans to help wounded soldiers.
It marks his second visit to the country this year.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to play a major role in the impending US state visit to Britain, which will see Donald Trump and Melania stay at Windsor Castle from September 17 to 18—and include a joint engagement for the first lady and the Princess of Wales with the Scouts at Frogmore Gardens.
The Trumps are slated to arrive at Windsor Castle on the morning of the 17th, where they will be officially greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The quartet will then meet King Charles and Queen Camilla, who will receive the Trumps for a Royal Salute, fired from the East Lawn of Windsor Castle at the same time as a salute from the Tower of London. Their Majesties, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the President and First Lady will then make a carriage procession through the Windsor estate towards the Castle, which was also the site for French president Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Britain this summer.
Both nations’ anthems will play as the Procession moves off. In a historical move, a Guard of Honour will be presented at the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, featuring the State Colours of the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, and the Scots Guards. This will mark the first time that such an occasion will feature three State Colours—typically, just one would be showcased at the parade. The President and the King will then inspect the Guard of Honour, followed by a Rank and March past The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, the Household Cavalry and the Foot Guards.
Then, lunch will commence in the State Dining Room, with various members of the Royal family. The party will attend a special display of America-related items from the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room. In a solemn moment, later that afternoon Trump is set to privately pay homage to the late Queen Elizabeth—whom he has previously described as a “grand and beautiful lady”—by laying a wreath on her tomb at St George’s Chapel.
King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Trumps will then be joined by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Lady Starmer for a Beating Retreat ceremony on Windsor’s East Lawn, featuring a flypast by UK and US F-35 military jets and the Red Arrows. The visit will culminate in a state banquet at the Castle—and if the French state visit was anything to go by, it will be a dazzling display of tiaras and royal jewels for Middleton and Queen Camilla. Both the King and President Trump will deliver speeches at the beginning of the dinner.

There are few women in the world who can influence a wardrobe quite like the Princess of Wales. She just has a knack for turning polished classics into must-have staples. Her recent secret weapon? The tweed blazer – more specifically, the herringbone jacket. Season after season, Catherine proves that this heritage piece is not just for the hunting fields of the English countryside, but for school runs, charity visits, and even the red carpet-adjacent engagements that make up royal life.
So why does the Duchess return time and again to this quintessentially British tweed jacket? And more importantly, why should you consider adding one to your own collection?
The 43-year-old royal has been photographed in an array of blazers, but her tweed and herringbone choices always stand out. Think of her in Smythe’s iconic one-button jacket, in earthy tweeds by Alexander McQueen, or her beloved Holland Cooper double-breasted blazer in a sharply tailored herringbone. Each look is grounded in practicality yet elevated with that regal polish she nails every single time.
Part of the appeal lies in tweed’s history. Woven in Scotland and synonymous with country estates, equestrian weekends, and windswept moors, tweed is basically as British as afternoon tea. And if you love the Traitors, you’ll be reminded of its appeal with Claudia Winkleman who looked seriously chic with her Traitors-core look throughout filming.
Let’s pause for a quick fabric lesson, shall we? Tweed is the broader category: a rough, woollen cloth traditionally woven in patterns like check, houndstooth, and herringbone. herringbone, with its distinctive V-shaped weave, is the most refined of the bunch. It’s structured, slimming, and quietly elegant – the kind of pattern that doesn’t scream for attention but always looks considered.
Kate is a busy working royal, juggling engagements that take her from sports grounds to palace receptions. She needs clothes that bridge the gap between comfort and sophistication.
I reached out to royal fashion expert Samantha, the woman who’s responsible for the hugely popular Instagram account @royalfashiondaily. If anyone can add some expert knowledge on to this subject, it’s Sam! She said: “Kate loves her tweed herringbone jackets and blazers because they feel timeless and grounded. They gives her that easy, girl-next-door vibe while still nodding to classic British countryside style – a look that makes royalty feel warm, approachable, and relatable.”
What’s more, let’s face it, a tweed blazer is warm enough for chilly British weather, and it’s tailored enough to hold its shape in front of cameras.
If you’re looking to invest, heritage brands like Holland Cooper, Smythe, and Burberry offer exquisite tailoring with timeless appeal. For more accessible options, high-street retailers like Zara, Mango, and Jigsaw frequently carry excellent herringbone-inspired blazers. The beauty of this piece is that it doesn’t have to cost the earth to look regal.
I’ve shopped some of my favourite below…
Throw on a herringbone blazer and suddenly jeans and a T-shirt look intentional. Pair it with a silk blouse and pencil skirt and you’re boardroom ready. Over a knit dress, it adds structure without sacrificing softness. It’s the ultimate wardrobe transformer.
Catherine tends to favour earthy palettes – greys, browns, navy – because they go with everything. Invest in a neutral herringbone blazer first, then branch out into statement colours if you fall in love.
Tweed is a heavier fabric, so balance is key. Kate often teams her blazers with slim trousers, skinny jeans, or a streamlined midi skirt. This avoids looking bulky and highlights the tailoring.
To soften the traditionally masculine cut of a blazer, Kate often pairs hers with a silk blouse, delicate jewellery, or even a floral dress. It’s this interplay of structure and softness that makes her looks feel so wearable.
Now this is one of the royal’s signature styling tricks. Cinching the waist not only flatters the figure but adds a modern twist to a heritage fabric. If your blazer is longline, try a leather belt over the top – it’s a subtle but effective way to elevate your look.
Whether she’s wearing suede knee-highs or chic ankle boots, Kate knows footwear matters. Tweed naturally complements leather, so your herringbone blazer will always feel at home with classic boots.
One of the reasons tweed has shaken off its “country only” reputation is its pairing with denim. A herringbone blazer worn over a white tee and skinny jeans is no doubt Princess Kate’s off-duty uniform – and it works just as well for a Saturday coffee run as it does for the school gates.
While fashion is often fleeting, the herringbone jacket is a piece you’ll wear for decades. Buy well, and it will outlast trends, moving with you from one life stage to another. Princess Kate’s wardrobe choices highlight this point beautifully: her tweed blazers from a decade ago still look as fresh today as when she first wore them.
Think of it as part of the “royal effect.” Royals don’t dress for a single season – they dress with the future in mind. That’s exactly why Catherine’s tweed jackets have aged so gracefully, and why yours will too.

Kate Middleton has broken her silence on comments about her new blonde hair. In a video shared by the TikTok account @about.london, the Princess of Wales reacted to compliments from well-wishers about her new golden locks.
“How embarrassing. You’ll make me blush,” Kate responded to a fan outside of the National History Museum who gave her a compliment over her new blonde hair. Elsewhere in the video, Kate also gave an update to her and her husband Prince William’s three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—telling well-wishers, “They’re getting so big now.” She continued, “George is already in my shoes.” When the well-wishers told Kate that they remembered waiting outside St. Mary’s hospital in London when all three of her kids were born, the princess smiled in response and replied, “It only feels like yesterday.”

Kate debuted her new honey blonde hair while visiting the National History Museum’s newly transformed gardens with William on September 4, 2025. The appearance marked the couple’s first joint outing following their summer break. For the appearance, Kate wore her hair in her signature bouncy blowout waves with a side part. Kate first sparked speculation she dyed her hair on August 24 when she was photographed arriving to church near Balmoral Castle in Scotland with William and George, Charlotte, and Louis.

After her appearance at the National History Museum, however, Kate came under accusations that her hair was a wig. “Surely the #RoyalFamily can afford a better looking wig than this for #KateMiddleton. Ladies, this is why you’re supposed to earn your own money…..so that you can go and buy proper wigs for yourself!!!” a user wrote on X. Another user wrote on X, “Kate Middleton wearing the cheapest wig I’ve ever seen in my life 😂.” One more user wrote on X, “I hope this is a wig because Kate Middleton’s new look is just plain awful..”
Other users, however, denied that Kate’s hair was a wig and speculated that she could’ve worn hair extensions. “It’s not a wig; you can see at the front that it isn’t a wig. #KateMiddleton has hair extensions in, look at the back of her head, 👇. She been wearing hair extensions forever?” a user wrote on X.

Princess Diana’s former hairstylist, Sam McKnight, who worked as the royal’s personal hairdresser for seven years before her death, took to Instagram on September 4 to defend Prince William’s wife’s recent hair makeover. “I am shocked, horrified, dismayed and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today,” he wrote in a post. “A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armor, defense, confidence and so much more.”
He continued, “I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made apparently by other women, attacking a vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married and the role she took on, to bravely face the public.”
McKnight ended his post by reminding critics that Kate recently went through cancer. (The Princess of Wales announced that she was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in March 2024. After undergoing chemotherapy, she revealed that her cancer was in remission in January 2025.)

“I’m sure she would rather be away from the public arena. She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation,” McKnight concluded. “Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life changing for everyone So FFS LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU.”

It’s never surprising when a famous person’s new look sparks online conversation. So, when Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton to most of us) stepped out with a new head of blonde hair on Thursday, it quickly became a matter of breaking news for several publications.
The Princess of Wales has been a brunette for as long as we’ve known her, so the debut of an image revamp outside the Natural History Museum had people talking.
However, social media comment sections also found that the colour of Kate’s hair was not the only noticeable change – many have claimed that her new look comes courtesy of a wig.
‘LOL, that’s a wig,’ reads one of many comments, with countless others mocking the shape and styling of her hair in the various pieces of footage released from the paparazzi moment.

As someone who’s been on the internet since childhood, I’m not surprised – I know that nothing’s off-limits when it comes to sharing unsolicited opinions on the web.
However, I do wish we’d exercise a little more restraint with vocalising these assumptions in such public forums – especially when we have context for why Kate is possibly using hair enhancements.
Kate announced last year that she’d been diagnosed with cancer after it was discovered by doctors during abdominal surgery. After that, she underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy and has made infrequent public appearances since.
One of the most common side effects of chemotherapy is hair loss, so it’s not impossible that Kate would use enhancements in the months and years afterwards. But either way, the onslaught of comments and critiques of this possibility is evidence of a lack of empathy in internet culture.
There are plenty of things to criticise the royals for, and I’m definitely no fan of the British monarchy – but thousands of people making the same public remark in a sort of ‘gotcha’ moment feels unnecessary, and implies that there is something wrong if Kate is wearing a wig.

The King and Queen, and the Prince and Princess of Wales were among the royal relatives and high-profile figures to pay tribute to the Duchess of Kent following her death at the age of 92. Her passing on 4 September was announced by Buckingham Palace on Friday.
Charles and Camilla paid tribute in the statement released by the palace, which read, in part: “The King and Queen and all members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”
In a message on Kensington Palace’s official social media accounts, the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote: “Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen and Nicholas. The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family.”
Yorkshire-born Katharine Worsley, who wed Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1961, is also survived by three children – George, Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor and Lord Nicholas Windsor. The Duchess of Kent’s grandchildren include model Lady Amelia Windsor, 30, and Lady Marina Windsor, 32, who announced her engagement to Nico Macauley in June.
Through her work as a teacher and her love of music, Katharine made a number of acquaintances and friends within the industry. She even once revealed her admiration for gangsta rap, citing Eminem and Ice Cube. In 2004, she co-founded Future Talent, a charity that helps young children with low-income backgrounds pursue a career in music.
The organisation said of the royal: “Everyone at Future Talent is deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Katharine – our Co-Founder and the visionary behind our charity. Nicholas Robinson OBE, Co-Founder of Future Talent said: ‘We send our heartfelt condolences to Katharine’s family. She was an inspiration who was loved by so many people over the years and will be greatly missed. We have lost a very special person.’”
Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell paid tribute to the Duchess of Kent as “an advocate for children and young people’s welfare”, and someone who had “taught and encouraged generations of young musicians”.
He said: “Today, we mourn the death of Katharine, HRH The Duchess of Kent, who was born here in Yorkshire and whose royal wedding was held at York Minster in the city whose freedom she held. Katharine was an advocate for children and young people’s welfare throughout her life. She taught and encouraged generations of young musicians. Millions will remember her comfort and kindness exemplified in her embrace of Jana Novotna in the final at Wimbledon, whose patron she was for many years.
“In 1994 her own deep and profound faith led her from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism, a moment the then archbishop of Canterbury described as a ‘personal decision of a devout Christian on a spiritual journey’. She was held in high esteem by all who met her and knew her. I pray for the repose of her soul and that HRH The Duke of Kent, their children and all the royal family may know the consolation and comfort that comes from our common Christian faith. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.”
The leader of Catholics in England and Wales recalled the Duchess of Kent’s “lifetime of public service”. Cardinal Vincent Nichols said: I have received with sadness the news today of the death of Her Royal Highness, Katharine, the Duchess of Kent. I recall with fondness her presence in our community, especially her participation in the pilgrimage to Lourdes, as well as her lifetime of public service. I have written to His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent and assured him of the prayers of the Catholic community in England and Wales. We pray that God will receive her soul into heaven, the promise given to us by Our Lord, Jesus Christ. May Katharine now rest in peace and rise in glory.”
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer issues a moving statement, saying the Duchess of Kent brought “compassion, dignity and a human touch to everything she did”. Extending his “sincere condolences to His Majesty The King and the royal family,” the UK PM touched upon some of the most memorable moments of her life.
“Many will remember that moment at the Wimbledon Ladies Final, when she touchingly comforted the runner-up, Jana Novotna. Later, when it was discovered she had been giving her time and working anonymously as a music teacher at a school in Hull, it seemed typical of her unassuming nature. In so many ways, the duchess sought to help. My thoughts are with her husband, His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, her family and all those whose lives she touched.”
The Duchess will be expected to have a Catholic funeral, attended by senior royals including the King and Queen. It will be the first Catholic funeral service held for a member of the royal family in modern British history.
The royals are now observing a period of mourning, where the the royals and staff will wear clothing which pays appropriate tribute during this period. Those in Livery, the Royal Mews and Troops on Public Duties will wear black armbands. Some engagements may take place during this period, but households are currently considering the format and tone of each one.
