Karl Urban has hinted that The Boys Season 5 will include a long-awaited revelation about his character, Billy Butcher. During a recent appearance at the MCM London Comic Con, the actor teased that fans can expect to learn about an important detail from Butcher’s past.

Karl Urban says The Boys Season 5 will reveal how Billy Butcher got his forehead scar

Karl Urban has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of The Boys will address the origin of Billy Butcher’s forehead scar.

Speaking at the MCM London Comic Con, the actor shared that Season 5 will explore the story behind the scar. He added that he initially preferred to leave it a mystery, but the new season will reveal the truth. Urban said, “Personally, I would actually love to keep that a bit enigmatic. But, Season 5, you’re going to find out the origin of Butcher’s scar. That is one spoiler I will tell you – so I can’t divulge it in this room, but you are going to find out.” (via Games Radar)

While specific details about the upcoming episodes remain a secret, filming for the final season has officially wrapped. Series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed the news in July, calling it a “bittersweet” moment. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “This is the last time I’ll ever be on this set. It’ll be torn down soon. It’s bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude.”

Urban will reprise his role as Billy Butcher in the upcoming season. Other returning cast members include Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Capone, and Antony Starr. The fifth season is expected to continue the storyline from the events of Gen V Season 2.

An official premiere date for the upcoming season, which will conclude the Prime Video show, has yet to be confirmed.

  • Warner Bros. Shifts ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Release Date to Summer 2026

    [ad_1]

Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) will have to wait for showtime just a little longer than originally anticipated, as Mortal Kombat II will bow out of 2025’s fall movie release schedule, instead opening in May 2026.

The Warner Bros., New Line, and Atomic Monster production was originally slated to be released on October 24 of this year, but that is no longer the case. According to Deadline, it’s not a reflection of the film’s quality, as the trade reports the film has been testing well, but rather a pivot to bank on the success of the early summer window it saw with Final Destination Bloodlines. The New Line horror flick cultivated a solid box office debut of $51.6 million after opening in mid-May.

With that in mind, the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat will now open on May 15, 2026.

The film stars Urban as Cage—a casting many have been anticipating since the first movie—and will feature returning stars Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Josh Lawson (Kano), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Joe Taslim (Bi-Han), Tadanobu Asano (Lord Raiden), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion). The ensemble is joined by newcomers Tati Gabrielle (Jade) and Adeline Rudolph (Kitana).

  • Twitter Users Argue Karl Urban Should Play This Fan-Favorite Instead Of Johnny Cage

Twitter Users Argue Karl Urban Should Play This Fan-Favorite Instead Of Johnny Cage

    [ad_1]

Karl Urban is expected to join the “Mortal Kombat” sequel as the wise-cracking, nut-punching Johnny Cage, according to multiple reports.

The popular character from the adaptation based on the beloved video game franchise didn’t appear in the 2021 movie, but he was cleverly teased at the end of the film.

Though Cage’s role in the sequel’s plot is under wraps, Twitter users couldn’t help but point out that he would be better suited playing the crude cybernetic eye-wearing villain, Kano, instead.

Other Twitter users ruminated about how the 50-year-old actor will never be able to play Kano, as he was killed off in the first film.

In April 2021, the reboot’s director Simon McQuoid explained that Cage wasn’t featured in “Mortal Kombat” because he was considered too much for the film.

“The reason [Johnny Cage] is not in this original film is he’s such a giant personality that he almost has his own gravitational field,” McQuoid told Variety at the time.

In recent years, Urban has appeared in quite a handful of popular films, including “Thor: Ragnarok” and “The Lord of the Rings.” In 2005, he also starred in the video game adaptation for the sci-fi fantasy game “Doom.”

A release date for “Mortal Kombat 2” has yet to be announced.

The final rounds of conversation are wrapping up. If all goes well, it seems that Karl Urban will star as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2. The sequel to New Line Cinema’s 2021 film is getting underway, and fans couldn’t be more excited. While the first entry in the series did stray from the conventional Mortal Kombat story, it did a very good job at setting up various classic characters, as well as introducing some new ones, like Cole Young, the hero of the movie who had never appeared in a previous Mortal Kombat game.

Karl Urban is perhaps most famous for his portrayal of Billy Butcher in the hit Amazon series The Boys. He’s also been prominently featured in the recent Star Trek movies as the younger version of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. He was also the star of the much beloved Dredd reboot from 2012. Urban’s played a number of other characters, after getting his first big Hollywood role in 2002’s Ghost Ship.

Johnny Cage himself is an interesting character. He’s largely based around Jean-Claude Van Damme… specifically Van Damme’s performance in 1988’s Bloodsport. While he often serves as comic relief in the games, he’s also an extremely skilled martial artist. The character is a Hollywood action star, who gets noticed as one of Earth’s greatest fighters. As a result, Raiden enlists him to defend “Earthrealm” against the forces of “Outworld” in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Johnny and his allies then take on baddies such as Goro, Shang Tsung, and eventually, the emperor of Outworld himself, Shao Kahn.

Mortal Kombat 2 will be produced by James Wan, Todd Garner, Simon McQuoid, and E. Bennett Walsh.
