  • Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off’s Nikki Fox: ‘Painful’ childhood memories, why she uses a wheelchair and her recent marriage

    [ad_1]

Celebrity MasterChef is welcoming four new contestants into the kitchen for this year’s Christmas Cook Off – and Nikki Fox is one of them.

Nikki is hoping to pull out all the stops and impress judges John Torode and Grace Dent during the festive special tonight.

The TV star will be joined in the kitchen by a personal assistant to help with the two tasks John and Grace set – but has she got what it takes to win the competition?

Read on for all you need to know about Nikki, including how she rose to fame, who she is married to and who her Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off PA is.

    Who is Nikki Fox?

Nikki Fox was born on March 3 1980. This makes her 45 years old. She grew up in Middlesex with her sister and her parents.

In her late teens, Nikki studied Music at Brunel University.

She later told BBC Sounds: “It got to the point where you get to sort of 16 and you’re like, I want a career, I want to think about work. I was playing the piano at the time and I set up my own little piano teaching business, and I wanted to get out there and do things.”

However, after graduating, Nikki decided to pursue a career in the media.

Her first job was at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on the Peterborough Breakfast Show. She hosted the competition segments and a ‘what’s on guide’ for listeners.

Nikki later won a place on Channel 4’s Disability Researcher Training Scheme.

Why does Nikki Fox use a wheelchair?

Nikki was born with muscular dystrophy. It is a rare genetic condition that causes muscles to weaken over time.

The NHS states: “The main symptom of muscular dystrophy is muscle weakness that gets worse as you get older. Some types of muscular dystrophy start in early childhood, while others do not start until later in life.”

Signs of the condition include difficulty waking, falling easily and difficulty lifting things.

Nikki’s parents are not disabled but her sister Rachel is.

She previously told BBC Sounds’ Access All podcast: “With muscular dystrophy, me and my sister have both got it, and apparently it was like everyone has a good gene and a bad gene and my mum and dad happened to match and that was why one in millions.

“I mean, they told us this when we were younger. I don’t know much else to be honest, but yeah.”

In another episode, Nikki also spoke about the testing she and her sister Rachel endured when they were children. “Mild congenital muscular dystrophy non-progressive is how they described it when we were younger,” she said. “And mum was having to regularly take us to Hammersmith Hospital three times a week.

“We used to have to have tests. I used to have muscle biopsies, because Rachel never wanted them because they were quite painful, so I used to get a little bit of money.

“They just take a bit of your muscle and take it off and test it. I’ve still got the little scars. I am quite hardcore now. You can do anything to me, I’m all right, probably because of those.”

What shows has Nikki Fox been on?

Nikki’s first big role in TV was on Channel 4’s How to Look Good Naked with a Disability. She worked as both a researcher and a co-presenter with Gok Wan.

In 2014, Nikki moved to the BBC and was appointed as its Disability Correspondent. She fronted several documentaries for BBC News and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Two years later, Nikki won Journalist of the Year at the European Diversity Awards. She also joined BBC’s Watchdog in 2016.

To this day, Nikki is one of the show’s regular presenters, uncovering scams and consumer issues. Nikki also works on BBC’s The One Show.

    Who is Nikki Fox’s husband?

Nikki’s husband is called Dave. The couple got married in June this year, after getting engaged in January 2024. Nikki had announced her engagement on The One Show.

The couple tied the knot at Nikki’s parents’ house, with the ceremony held in a giant marquee the garden. Nikki wore two dresses on her big day and guests feasted on ice cream from a pop up stall in the garden.

Nikki’s One Show and Watchdog co-star Matt Allwright attended the wedding. Later at the reception, he even got out his guitar and performed a few numbers!

Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off: Who is Nikki’s assistant?

Nikki is competing on tonight’s Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off with GK Barry, Iain Stirling and Kola Bokinni.

In the show, Nikki is helped by a personal assistant. She is introduced at the beginning of the episode, with judge John Torode saying: “Merry Christmas. Welcome to the MasterChef kitchen. Can I also welcome Libby, Nikki’s assistant.”

During the show, Libby will help Nikki with many of the physical cooking tasks – including chopping, whisking and using the oven. She will be giving her instructions for every step of the cooking process.

Nikki tells MasterChef judge Grace Dent: “She’s been my lady in waiting for over 10 years now. Libby just kind of helps me do all the things I can’t do. With the cooking, I’m going to be directing Libby.”

Nikki has also credited Libby on Instagram, alongside a picture of herself with GK, Iain and Kola. She said: “Me and Lib have worked together for nearly 12 years, longer than I’ve been hitched, and I couldn’t do what I do without her and that’s why I wanted to take part in #celebritymasterchef.

“For anyone who needs a PA to help with the physical stuff, it can be scary I know, but you can meet a Libby and it can be joyful. Lib enables me to do the things I can’t, and now we can do this together and I get to show her off.”

What time is Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook Off on?

  • Michelle Heaton is eliminated from Celebrity MasterChef over ‘dry’ shepherd’s pie and curdled cream pudding

    [ad_1]

Celebrity MasterChef 2025 has said goodbye to its latest budding chef – Liberty X star Michelle Heaton.

The singer was eliminated from the BBC series tonight after dishing up a curdled cream and “dry” shepherd’s pie.

Michelle seemed gutted to be out of the competition, especially as it meant she just missed out on a semi-final place.

Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, Love Island star-turned-racing pundit Chris Hughes had author and broadcaster Dawn O’Porter had better luck. The trio have all made it through to the next stage.

Michelle Heaton is the next person to leave Celebrity MasterChef (Credit: BBC)

But where did it all go wrong for Michelle? Her curdled cream can take a lot of the blame…

Celebrity MasterChef: Michelle Heaton leaves show

In tonight’s episode, Michelle and her competitors took part in the show’s pairs contest. Jamie and Chris were paired together, while Michelle went with Dawn.

Each pair was given a one recipe but weren’t able to see each other. Fans of MasterChef will know this is a real rest of their communication and natural cooking knowledge as they work to create two identical dishes.

Both pairs had to make a dessert, but one definitely worked better as a team. Jamie and Chris seemed to produce matching puds. But John described watching Michelle and Dawn cook together as “stressful”.

The girls forgot to add the frangipane to their Bakewell tarts… and Michelle was then criticised for putting too much in. Oops!

The next task was the big one, though. Michelle, Jamie, Dawn and Chris had to create a restaurant-worthy two-course meal for this week’s guest judges.

MasterChef 2024 winner, Strictly’s Vito Coppola, was one of them. He was joined by his fellow finalists, actress Rochenda Sandall and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

    So what did everyone cook?

    Celebrity MasterChef: Vito Coppola returns

Michelle had hoped to impress Vito, Rochenda and Harry with a layered shepherd’s pie with a parmesan crust. Pudding was an apple and blackberry crumble served with mascarpone and cream.

Chris dished up prawn and chorizo for his starter. His main course was monkfish with red pesto and wrapped in parma ham, served with sweet potato puree.

Dawn, meanwhile, also chose to cook prawns for her first course. But in homage to her Scottish dad, she served them on a ‘tatty scone’, also known as a potato cake. She then served a “posh roast” of pork fillet.

Jamie picked scallops and black pudding for his starter. For his main course, he dished up a rack of lamb in honey and mint with hasselback potatoes and a red wine jus.

His dish went down well, with Rochenda saying she would “scoff” all of his scallops. Harry, meanwhile, said Jamie’s lamb was “cooked to perfection”. John said his jus was “close to professional”.

    Tat’s a hit

Vito said he wanted “more and more” tatty scones after trying Dawn’s first course. Her main also received a big thumbs up, with Grace saying it was “bang on”.

Chris’ prawn starter was a bit of a letdown, as it was over-seasoned. John liked his monkfish, but said he “wasn’t a fan” of his puree.

Unfortunately, Rochenda said Michelle’s shepherd’s pie was “dry” and Harry said her broccoli was “undercooked”. John said: “There’s sweet carrots and sweet potatoes but, quite honestly, it doesn’t taste like a lot.”

Michelle’s crumble didn’t get rave reviews, either. Her mascarpone and cream curdled. Grace also described her fruit as “over-stewed”, adding: “I don’t think that’s what she was looking for.”

It was no surprise when John and Grace booted her out. Grace said to Michelle: “It breaks my heart to send you home, you tried to hard.”

When is Celebrity MasterChef on next?

Jamie, Chris and Dawn are now through to the semi-finals. They join Antony Costa, Ginger Johnson and Katie McGlynn from last Celebrity MasterChef week’s heat.

The show returns at 8pm on BBC One on Tuesday December 2, 202, but not for the semis. Next week sees the third set of budding 2025 chefs enter the kitchen for the first time.

They are singer Alfie Boe, TV presenter Noreen Khan, rugby star Alun Wyn Jones, author Jodie Ounsley and TV personality, Ashley Cain.

Let’s hope they can all pull it out the bag. We have already had raw potatoes and dry chicken this week (thanks to Jaki Graham) and now split cream. John and Grace are no doubt praying for better!

Inside Lisa Faulkner and John Torode's relationship, including how they met, and who they were with before

    [ad_1]

Lisa Faulkner and John Torode got the gig of a lifetime when ITV agreed to let them travel the coast of Western Australia looking for yummy food – that’s just one of the perks of being in a relationship with a fellow foodie!

The husband and wife duo embark on a journey across 500 miles of beautiful Western Australia coastline in ITV‘s new series John & Lisa’s Food Trip Down Under.

On their travels, they search for the very best local food and wine as if having an all-expenses trip Down Under wasn’t cushy enough (ignore us, we’re only jealous).

John, an Aussie himself, takes his wife Lisa to the place where his passion for food and cooking began… Along the way, they meet chefs, winemakers, food fanatics and entrepreneurs creating incredible produce in new ways. Anybody else feeling hungry?

As John Torode and Lisa Faulkner launch their new five-part series, we look inside their relationship, including how they met, when they married, and their history of exes.

How and when did Lisa Faulkner and John Torode meet?

TV chefs Lisa Faulkner and John Torode fell in love on the set of Celebrity MasterChef in 2010. Lisa took part in the series, which she went on to win, while John was the judge.

However, they had actually met before – and it certainly wasn’t love at first sight! The pair actually met for the first time way in 1996, 19 years before they started dating.

And Lisa once admitted that she thought the cook was a bit “arrogant” – something John has since been forced to defend! The couple first crossed paths on This Morning, where MasterChef star John was demonstrating his culinary skills and Lisa had just been chatting about her acting career.

According to the Mirror, Lisa was “very excited” to see John cook, but discovered that he was “really arrogant”. She said: “I told him ‘oh that looks really good’ and he just said ‘thanks’.”

John later said he was “completely distracted” by cooking, “rather than by the hottie who was on the sofa”. He also revealed it was his first day cooking live on television.

After meeting again in 2010 when Lisa was on Celebrity MasterChef, the pair started dating shortly after. In fact, John wrote Lisa a letter after she won the show.

Speaking to MailOnline, Lisa revealed that everything changed after John wrote her a letter and asked her out to dinner. She said: “John and I were friends. Neither of us thought of it as anything else until… […] I don’t know how things change, but something does. He asked me on a date. We went out for dinner. Then it was slightly different. I’m really, really happy.”

They were together for a few years before he popped the question to her on Christmas Day 2018. John and Lisa got hitched 10 months later.

Lisa Faulkner and John Torode relationship timeline: When did they get married?

John and Lisa tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Aynhoe Park in Northamptonshire in the autumn of 2019. Sharing a snap on Instagram of their big day, Lisa gushed: “The happiest day of my life!!! Cue the wedding spam for the next few weeks! Apologies in advance.”

She went on to add: “Yesterday I married the man of my dreams @johntorodecooks and we had the BEST Day EVER, filled with all our family and friends and such love.”

John followed suit, saying on Instagram that Lisa was the girl of his dreams.

Guests included Amanda Holden, Tamzin Outhwaite, Angela Griffin and Emmerdale star Nicola Stephenson. Of course, John’s MasterChef co-star Gregg Wallace was also in attendance.

The newlyweds went on to honeymoon in Mauritius.

Where do Lisa and John film Weekend Kitchen?

Contrary to popular opinion, Lisa Faulkner and John Torode do NOT film their ITV series John & Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen in their own home.

In fact, the show is actually filmed in a studio location, at Television Centre studios in London. However, Lisa insists that’s the only thing that’s not quite real.

Talking to press ahead of the new series, she said: “Whenever we do television together we are just being us. How we are on Weekend Kitchen, for example, is just how we are.

“For this series we got to wear GoPro cameras when we were driving together and were told that that was some of the best material because it was just so natural – with the odd funny remark or a grab of some chocolate from the glovebox! It was just great fun and I hope it inspires others to jump on a plane and discover Western Australia like we did as well.”

Lisa Faulkner and John Torode relationship: Where do the couple live?

John and wife Lisa live in a huge home in Muswell Hill, North London. Anyone who follows them on Instagram will know they have a pizza oven and BBQ in their garden, while their kitchen has a breakfast bar and teal cabinets.

The kitchen and dining room are open plan, with a wooden dining table near to the glass patio doors that lead out to the garden.

They share their home with Lisa’s daughter and their pet dog Rory!

When are John and Lisa both back cooking together on TV?

John Torode has revealed the pair will be back cooking together very soon.

He said: “We are on ITV a lot in 2024 actually! After this series, we might have something across springtime and the new series of John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen will be back for 11 weeks this autumn.”

Lisa added: “We are so happy to be doing more Weekend Kitchen. We are filming at the moment and it’s set to be another brilliant batch of episodes!”

Do Lisa and John have kids together?

Both Lisa Faulkner and John Torode were married previously, and had children with their former partners. Lisa has an adopted daughter Billie with her ex-husband Chris Coghill.

Aussie chef John, meanwhile, is a dad of four. John’s kids include grown-up sons Casper and Marselle, and teenagers from another relationship, Jonah, 17, and Lulu, 15.

They now describe themselves as a “blended family”. Previously, Lisa revealed that the kids call her the “feeder”.

Who is Lisa Faulkner’s ex husband?

Ex-Spooks star Lisa was once married to former EastEnders actor Chris Coghill. They got hitched in 2005 after co-starring in telly drama Burn It. They adopted daughter Billie, who is now 18, a year later after they wed in 2006.

However, they separated and divorced in 2011.

Chris regularly shares pictures of his daughter on his official Instagram, and the pair maintain a close relationship.

John and Jessica are parents to Jonah, 19, and 17-year-old Lulu. John also is father to his adult children Casper and Marselle from previous relationships.

What is the relationship age gap between John Torode and Lisa Faulker?
