  • Ryan Reynolds’ Underrated Family Comedy Is Dominating on Streaming

    A family comedy movie featuring Ryan Reynolds has found considerable success on streaming after reaching a broader audience. Thanks to its strong viewership on Paramount+, IF has managed to rank high on streaming analytics charts. Notably, the film, helmed by John Krasinski, premiered in theaters on May 17, 2024, to mixed critical reception.

    As of January 16, 2026, Ryan Reynolds’ family comedy movie is doing well on Paramount+.

    IF is the #7 movie on the streaming platform, with 70 popularity points on FlixPatrol. It is also ranked either #7 or #6 in several international territories.

    Accordingly, the film is outranked by Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (#1, 223 points), The Naked Gun (#2, 163 points), Night Hunter (#3, 137 points), High Ground (#4, 133 points), The Stranger in My Home (#5, 107 points), and World War Z (#6, 83 points). However, it outranks Take Cover (#8, 47 points), Trust (#9, 42 points), and Mean Girls (#10, 40 points).

    On Rotten Tomatoes, IF has a Tomatometer score of 57 percent but a robust Popcornmeter score of 85 percent. Meanwhile, Metacritic, which uses a weighted average to determine scores, gave the film a Metascore of 46, based on 39 critical reviews, and a user score of 6.2, drawn from 151 user ratings.

    Following its release, IF also grossed $190.5 million worldwide against a reported budget of $110 million. (via Box Office Mojo)

    The live-action fantasy comedy follows Bea, a 12-year-old girl who goes to live with her grandmother Margaret in the latter’s apartment while her father goes to the hospital for heart surgery. Her life turns upside down when she realizes one day that she can see imaginary friends of other children.

    Bea later meets a man named Cal, also capable of seeing the same imaginary friends. The two subsequently work together to place the friends with new children, as the ones they were originally friends with have grown up and moved on without them.

    In addition to directing the film, John Krasinski also wrote the screenplay and co-produced with Ryan Reynolds, Andrew Form, and Allyson Seeger.

    The film includes a mix of live-action actors and voice actors. The live-action cast includes Reynolds, Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Bobby Moynihan. Meanwhile, the voice cast includes Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Awkwafina, Emily Blunt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, and Blake Lively.

    Emily Blunt’s role in The Devil Wears Prada may be iconic among fans, but her children don’t necessarily agree.

    The actress recently told Page Six that her two daughters, Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, whom she shares with husband John Krasinski, found her character Emily Charlton in the 2006 film quite unpleasant.

    “They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt shared of their reaction. In The Devil Wears Prada, the actress plays a high-strung assistant at a fictional fashion magazine, Runway, opposite Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

    However, the film is still beloved by many, which still shocks the Oppenheimer star to this day. “It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people … and it’s quoted to me every week,” she said.

    Blunt also recalled having “the time of our lives” working on the David Frankel-directed comedy-drama, alongside Streep, Hathaway and Stanley Tucci.

    “At the time I was young, it was my first big movie,” The Fall Guy actress said. “I remember my agent calling me and telling me about the opening weekend. I was like, ‘Is that good?’ Like I didn’t know what was good.”

    Following its release, The Devil Wears Prada grossed a massive $326 million at the worldwide box office and earned Streep an Oscar nomination for her role as Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly.

    Though Blunt’s children may not be jumping at the idea of the actress reprising her Devil Wears Prada role, it could potentially become a reality as a sequel to the 2006 film is already in development at Disney. At this point, no deals for the cast are in place.

    John Krasinski has revealed that he’s “always wanted to do a movie” for his two girls, Hazel and Violet, who inspired the story behind his new live-action and animated fantasy film IF. 

    The actor and filmmaker spoke with HELLO! and other reporters at the London premiere on Tuesday, giving an insight into life at home with his two girls, whom he shares with his wife, actress Emily Blunt.

    “I needed to show my kids that I do something, because they couldn’t watch A Quiet Place,” said John, who directed the 2018 horror film, and its sequel A Quiet Place II. 

    “I’ve always wanted to do a movie for my kids. And this one, I was just watching them in their playroom, disappearing into this magical world that parents aren’t allowed to go to. And I just thought that it would be an amazing movie to make. It’s about their world,” John said of the film, which tells the story of 12-year-old Bea (Cailey Fleming), who discovers she can see everyone’s imaginary friends, aka IFs. Together, with her neighbour, Cal (Ryan Reynolds), she embarks on a journey to reunite the discarded IFs with their now grown-up inventors.

    John, who wrote, directed, produced and starred in the movie as Bea’s father and also voices the character Marshmallow, admitted that he was apprehensive about his children watching his film. “They haven’t seen IF yet,” he said, adding: “Four days, I’ve never been more nervous in my life.”

    Like John, his wife Emily can also be seen on movie screens this month in the new action-comedy Fall Guy, in which she stars alongside Ryan Gosling.

    Emily also has a cameo role in IF, voicing the character Unicorn. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Fiona Shaw also voice characters in the film, with voice role cameos from George Clooney, Steve Carrell, Bradley Cooper, and Ryan Reynold’s wife Blake Lively.

    John and Emily are one of Hollywood’s most-loved couples. They first met at a Los Angeles restaurant in 2008, when Emily was at dinner with a mutual friend.

    The couple confirmed their engagement in August 2009 and 11 months later tied the knot at George Clooney’s estate in Lake Como. 

    In 2013, Emily and John announced that they were expecting their first child together. That same year, Emily shared an insight into their romance, saying meeting her other half “really changed my life”. “When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible,” she told InStyle.

    John Krasinski and Paramount aren’t just bringing sound-seeking aliens to the theater this year. In May, the actor is directing (and writing) his first kiddie movie, the Ryan Reynolds-starring IF, which came to the Super Bowl with a new trailer on hand.

    What Inspired Bobby Moynihan to Write a Children’s Book

    The upcoming film, cheekily introduced here by “Krasinski” himself—definitely not Randall Park—stars Cailey Fleming as Bea, a kid who realizes that she can see imaginary friends, a trait she also shares with her neighbor (Reynolds). As he explains it, there’s a whole secret world of imaginary friends (or IFs), ranging from talking marshmallows on fire to more conventional ones, like a bear (voiced by Lou Gossett Jr.) or Steve Carrell’s big, fluffy purple guy Blue. It eventually falls to the two humans to find new children for IFs, since their original creators have all gotten older and forgotten or abandoned them.

    If you watched Cartoon Network in the 2000s, this is going to be very familiar and likely remind you of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. And like that show, this is probably going to hit hard with the younger crowd who probably haven’t seen much (or anything) focused on imaginary friends, and in quite this way. For the older crowd… who knows, movies like these live and die on the chemistry and humor. It’s got a sizable cast, which includes reliably funny people like Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Bobby Moynihan. It’s easy to imagine a movie with this premise and cast comes together fairly well, right?

    We’ll know for sure when IF comes to theaters May 17.

    Emily Blunt is a first-time Oscar nominee this year for her role in Oppenheimer, but it turns out she didn’t find out about her nomination in the most Hollywood way.

    Speaking to Josh Horowitz for a conversation at 92NY on Tuesday, Blunt explained that being referred to as an Academy Award nominee doesn’t yet feel natural, despite the months-long buzz she would receive Oscar recognition.

    “It’s all quite scary, the anticipation of it, and I think you just try not to listen to buzz because buzz can be built on sand sometimes. And so when it did happen, and when it happened in such a far-reaching way for all of us in the movie and every crew member, it was magical,” Blunt said of Oppenheimer‘s many nominations, and when learning of her own, “I did have a brief cry in the middle of Brooklyn, brief weep directly after picking up my dog’s poop.”

    “I did pick up her poop and then I heard that I got nominated so it was perfect,” she continued, and husband John Krasinski “had a really good cry as well, after helping me with the poop. I think he went and put it in the trash and then we both cried.”

    Blunt is nominated for her performance as Kitty Oppenheimer, wife of Cillian Murphy’s titular character, who slowly loses hold of her own life throughout their marriage and J. Robert Oppenheimer’s work on the Manhattan Project.

    “I think there was so much about her that I empathize with — the idea of that extraordinary brain wasted and decaying at the ironing board and the anger and the simmering rage that would follow,” the star said of her real-life character. “She kind of raged against the machine as best she could but there’s only so much I think she could do, and then she married this icon and clearly worshipped him, loved him, supported him, was there, a hugely stabilizing force in his life and yet she was so unstable. I think she bled for him, but I think to her own detriment.”

    Blunt has several scenes of playing drunk in the film, but said only one time in her career has she actually had a few drinks before a drunk scene.

    “I’ve done it once and it was a disaster. I was so paranoid and messy — it was way back in the day, I’m not even going to tell you what it was for. No, I prefer to be stone-cold sober,” Blunt explained, teasing, “I mean I seem to have done this a couple of times, I’m like the go-to for ugly drunks.”

    Horowitz asked her at one point about previously meeting with Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan for a role in 2008’s The Dark Knight, which eventually went to Katie Holmes. “I don’t think I was right… the best girl wins, it’s alright,” Blunt responded, and when it came to Kitty there was no competition as she joked, “Nothing says raging drunk like Emily Blunt, and Chris knows that.”

    Throughout the hour-long conversation, Blunt also weighed in on possible (or unlikely) follow-ups to some of her most iconic films, including The Devil Wears Prada (“Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it’s OK. We’re all good with it”), Sicario 3 (“I hear rumblings but there’s nothing firm. I think it’s hearsay”) and Edge of Tomorrow (“I think that’s a more real conversation…. I think when we were first talking about the sequel, it was right before I was about to do Mary Poppins, so it was quite a while. And then I think if we’re going to do one, we would have to reimagine what the sequel will look like.”)

    And after Krasinski has had success in shifting to directing, Blunt said of taking that route herself, “Maybe one day. I don’t know quite yet if I want to, but I’m becoming increasingly interested and yeah, maybe one day.”

    With the release of The Boy and the Heron, which features Robert Pattinson’s dedicated vocal bird transformation, we’re looking back at the best Studio Ghibli dubs. When it comes to Hayao Miyazaki’s films, care has always been taken between by the Disney and GKIDS distributors to cast the English roles with incredible talent. It’s no easy feat to perform in sync with animation, let alone in a foreign language, but it helps to have the guidance of directors such as Pixar’s Pete Docter (Howl’s Moving Castle) who approach the task with appropriate reverence. While we understand the importance of subtitles—and we’d never take away from the wonderful work of the original Japanese voice casts—dubs help make the films accessible to more audiences. And as an animation fan, I love dubs because I can bask in the art and storytelling without reading and then revisiting with subtitles. It’s a preference and a gateway for more global animation to travel the world.

    Ryan Reynolds discovers his daughter can see everyone’s imaginary friends from their childhood in the teaser trailer for John Krasinski’s fantasy comedy IF, which dropped on Thursday.

    Not to be confused with IT, the 2017 supernatural horror pic, IF sees a perplexed Reynolds go on a lighthearted magical adventure with adorable creatures as his daughter, Bea, played by Cailey Fleming, uses her superpower to reconnect forgotten IFs with those that created them in the first place as kids, only to then grow up.

    “What kind of kid creates an invisible IF?” Reynolds questions at one point in the trailer as he forms an unlikely bond with Bea over her imaginary creatures hatched by childhood minds. In the end, IF promises viewers they may find the inner kid in all of us as “You have to believe to see” becomes the tagline for the Paramount pic set to hit theaters on May 17, 2024.

    “This is a movie that John and I have been talking about for years now, something that feels a bit like a live action Pixar film,” Reynolds added in a featurette for IF also released on Thursday.  

    The fantasy pic also marks a reunion between the A Quiet Place director and Carrell, Krasinski’s The Office co-star who plays Blue, an enormous teddy bear in IF. The IFs are also voiced by Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell,  Louis Gossett Jr., Sebastian Maniscalco, Chris Meloni, Richard Jenkins and Awkwafina.  

    Krasinski also wrote IF, and produced the movie along with Reynolds, Andrew Form and Allyson Seeger, while John J. Kelly and George Dewey share the executive producer credits.

    “‘IF’ is a movie that I made for my kids because I don’t think they’re allowed to see ‘A Quiet Place’; Emily [Blunt] calls it PG-40, ‘You’ll get to see it when you’re 40!’ So I had to make a movie that they could see, and I’m really, really excited about it,” Krasinski previously told Collider. “For me, it was just about what if we could tell a story about these time capsules? Imaginary friends are adorable and all those things, but they’re also time capsules of your hopes, dreams and ambitions when you were the most fertile of a brain, and it never goes away. I think we’re told that we’re adults instead of what if you realize that you never stopped being a kid.”

    Krasinski produces the kid-friendly creature feature through his company, Sunday Night, along with Reynolds and his banner, Maximum Effort. Also producing are Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form.

    “IF” is set for release on May 17, 2024.

    “This year, I’m not working,” she revealed on a recent episode of the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast. “I worked quite a bit last year, and my oldest baby is nine, so we’re in the last year of single digits.” Blunt shares her two daughters—Hazel, 9, and Violet, 7—with husband and fellow actor John Krasinski, whom she wed in 2010. “I just feel there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little,” she continued. “And it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?’ And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.”

    Blunt, who next appears in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer as Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer, said accepting roles that require time away from her kids come at a great “emotional cost,” and that she’s “very prone to guilt.” The actress added, “I think maybe all mothers are. You’re just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother. I am huge advocate for it—I’m a huge advocate for women being ambitious. It’s just dreams with purpose, it’s not an ugly word.”

    In addition to Oppenheimer, Blunt has a few more projects set for release during her hiatus, including David Yates’ crime drama Pain Hustlers opposite Chris Evans and David Leitch’s action film The Fall Guy, in which she stars alongside Ryan Gosling.

    Robert Downey Jr.’s attempt to snap the perfect “Oppenheimer” cast photo was hilariously thwarted by John Krasinski. The “Iron Man” actor posted two photos featuring his “Oppenheimer” costars on Instagram on July 9, but one of them featured an interloper in the form of Emily Blunt’s husband. “Linking up with my Oppenheimer cast mates…wait, is that a Krasinski photo bomb or might there be a surprise cameo???” Downey captioned his post.

    When it comes to movies from director Christopher Nolan, it’s always best to expect the unexpected, but it seems unlikely Krasinski will pop up in the film. Instead, he was most likely on hand to support Blunt, who plays a key role in the movie about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who led the Manhattan Project. Blunt joined Downey in the photos, alongside their fellow castmates Matt Damon and Cillian Murphy.

    Krasinski’s scene-stealing moment isn’t the only thing that caught the attention of Downey’s Instagram followers. Many of Murphy’s fans commented on the post to share how surprised they were to see the actor smiling. Over the years, Murphy has made a name for himself playing serious roles on TV (“Peaky Blinders”) and in film (“Oppenheimer,” “28 Days Later”). As a result, he rarely ever gets to break out a genuine grin on screen.

    “Cillian wasn’t just smiling, he’s wide smiling. this doesn’t feel right,” one commenter wrote. Another person wrote, “Never seen cillian this happy,” while YouTuber Brittany Broski added, “I am crying! How did you get Cillian to smile!”

    Emily Blunt’s children, whom she shares with husband John Krasinski, apparently don’t think her A-list celebrity status is all that exciting.

    The actor told Harper’s Bazaar UK in an interview published Wednesday that daughters Hazel, 9, and Violet, 7, tend to disconnect when they spot their mom on a billboard or screen.

    “When I see myself up on a billboard, I have this complete dissociation with it… I’m like, who’s that?” she said. “And I can see my children doing the same – they might say, oh, there’s Mama, but it’s not exciting for them. What’s exciting for them is when I can pick them up from school and take them swimming.”

    Blunt then discussed some of the challenges of balancing work and raising kids, saying that it can be “rough” on her daughters when she’s away for work, and that she makes a point to not be gone for more than two weeks at a time.

    “There are cornerstones of the girls’ day that I don’t want to compromise on – like, will you wake me up, take me to school, pick me up and put me to bed?” she explained. “And I just want to be able to say, yes, yes, yes. It’s such an exhale for me to be able to do that.”

    Blunt, who appears in the upcoming film “Oppenheimer,” has previously discussed her daughters’ nonchalant attitude about her career.

    The actor told E! News last year that although the kids have seen some of her and Krasinski’s projects, they don’t keep up with their work all that much.

    “They don’t really want to watch us on screen,” she said at the time. “They’ve got that ownership of us as parents. So it’s not–– they’re not running to see me in a movie, which keeps you humble.”

    “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, is due out July 21.
