  • MSNBC’s name is being replaced, but its leaders insist that its mission will remain the same

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK (AP) — Asked what viewers should expect when television’s MSNBC makes its corporate divorce from NBC News official this weekend, network president Rebecca Kutler points to a poster on the wall of a conference room at its new offices off Times Square.

Its message reads: “Same Mission. New Name.”

“To me, that encapsulates exactly what we need to be saying,” Kutler said. “Our job in the next few weeks is to flood the zone … and make sure they know the thing that they love will be the exact same thing on Nov. 15.”

Saturday is when MSNBC officially becomes MS NOW, standing for My Source for News, Opinion and the World. That’s the most visible manifestation of parent company Comcast’s decision to spin off most of its cable networks into a new company known as Versant.

It’s tough enough when one partner tells another that they’re leaving for someone new. In this case, they’re just leaving the partner behind; a cable television network is considered such a diminishing asset in today’s media world that giant companies would rather be free of them.

“A lot of us really didn’t know what it meant,” said prime-time host Jen Psaki, “and it didn’t feel great initially.”

Embracing the ethos of a startup

Left on its own, MS NOW is embracing the ethos of a startup, suggesting it will be better positioned to experiment without ties to the more corporate NBC News. “Morning Joe” is starting its own newsletter. Podcast ideas are encouraged. The network is expanding live events, letting its television stars interact with the audience; Rachel Maddow has one in Chicago later this month.

“I didn’t see this as a divorce,” said nighttime host Michael Steele. “I see this as the kid growing up and leaving home. We all know what that’s like.”

As Kutler says, the network’s focus on news and commentary with a liberal perspective remains intact. So does its lineup of stars — Maddow, Nicolle Wallace, Ari Melber and the like. MS NOW has built its own reporting and support staff, and is moving into a new headquarters west of Broadway in Manhattan that is, not incidentally, the former longtime headquarters of The New York Times.

The new office, tricked out with the latest electronics, ends one geographical oddity: No longer are the political polar opposites MSNBC and Fox News Channel located across Sixth Avenue from one another.

The MS NOW news staff has about three dozen reporters, among them Washington Post alums Jackie Alemany and Carol Leonnig. It has signed partnerships with Sky News for international reporting and AccuWeather for forecasting.

“Being divorced from NBC News gives it the opportunity to make deals on its own to supplement its cable existence,” said longtime broadcast and cable news executive Kate O’Brian, who spent several years at ABC. They have a strong identity and a built-in audience of people who oppose President Donald Trump, she said.

“They’re lean, nimble and niche, putting them in a better position to adapt to any emergent platforms,” O’Brian said.

MS NOW is leaner in audience than MSNBC was a year ago. The network’s prime-time weekday average of 1.17 million viewers this year is down 29% from 2024 — a number linked in large part to its viewers’ disappointment at the presidential election results. Fox News Channel, popular with Trump supporters, is up 14% to 3.11 million viewers.

Yet MSNBC has roughly twice the audience of CNN, which saw an identical 29% decrease in viewers over the first nine months of 2025. MSNBC was also buoyed by a strong election night performance where it ran neck-and-neck with Fox, even while missing the khaki-clad numbers nerd, Steve Kornacki, who chose to remain with NBC News.

MS NOW’s freedom appealed to reporters Jacob Soboroff, who chose it over NBC News, and Rosa Flores, who said she is joining the newly-named network from CNN primarily because she sees the opportunity to do a greater variety of things beyond the immigration beat she’d been covering.

“All the legacy news organizations are trying to make their way,” Flores said. “I felt like being part of a news organization that was building solutions from the ground up was so unique that I wanted to be a part of it.”

Being part of a news operation with a clear political identity was not a barrier for Soboroff. “It’s about the people for me, always, it’s not about the politics,” he said. “I feel like I do what I’ve always done, which is report the facts on the ground, turn them around to our audience and let the audience make up their own minds about what they think.”

Cleaning out the office at Rockefeller Center

The company is spending a reported $20 million on a marketing campaign designed to publicize the changeover, which will include billboards in Times Square, the Grove in Los Angeles and the South Capitol Digital Experience Wall in Washington, D.C.

Far cheaper is the mug with MSNBC crossed out and replaced by MS NOW on the set of “Morning Joe.” Co-host Mika Brzezinski recently cleared out her Rockefeller Center office and reminisced about times that NBC’s Richard Engel and Keir Simmons appeared on their show. “We’re going to miss some reporters,” she said, “and they’re going to miss us.”

With a rapidly evolving media landscape, success or failure will ultimately be decided by who has the content people most want to see, said her co-host and husband, Joe Scarborough.

“If this were five years ago, I would have been, ‘Oh, my God, how are we going to do this?’” he said. “Everything is so fluid now.”

‘Morning Joe’ Returns With Guest Who Says Would-Be Assassin Might Have Been Upset Trump Wasn’t ‘Conservative Enough’

    [ad_1]

    Screenshot: RCP Video X

Just one day after being pulled off the air over network concerns that their guests might say something inappropriate about the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, Morning Joe returned with a guest who suggested might have been motivated by the fact that the Republican nominee “was not conservative enough.”

The guest – NBC News National Law Enforcement and Intelligence Correspondent Tom Winter – cautioned viewers that the motive in the shooting may never be known. Then he dove head first into a wild conspiracy theory speculating on the motive.

“I’ll caution people it is possible we may never know why this individual got on the roof that day,” Winter said. “I will also caution people, people think — well, it’s just anti-Donald Trump, because this person doesn’t like them, because their views are on the other side of the political spectrum.”

“It is possible that Donald Trump — and there is a bit of a theory in law enforcement — is it possible that Donald Trump was not conservative enough for this individual?”

‘Morning Joe’ Brings Guest On Guest Who Implies Trump Shooter Was Ultra-Conservative

Allow that to sink in for a minute.

Winter, one of the first ‘Morning Joe’ guests after MSNBC was fretting that the show would bring on guests who say stupid things, wants you to think the shooter was so radically conservative that he wanted Trump dead to get somebody even further to the right as Biden’s opponent.

To agree with that, you have to believe Trump isn’t viewed as conservative enough despite the media and President Biden having consistently labeled him a “far-right MAGA extremist” for years.

You would also have to assume that the shooter, despite being so far to the right, believes Biden would be a better choice.

Winter seems to be basing his assessment solely on the fact that the shooter had registered as a Republican, for which we have no explanation.

It also ignores the fact that the shooter had donated to ActBlue, earmarking a small amount to the Progressive Turnout Project.

Sorry, but ultra-conservatives don’t donate to Act Blue.

Joe Scarborough Was Mad That His Show Was Pulled

MSNBC took Morning Joe off the air on Monday due to concerns one of their guests might make an “inappropriate” comment about former President Trump narrowly escaping the assassination attempt.

A source claimed the decision to pull the show “was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole.”

Winter’s commentary seems to suggest their instincts were correct.

While reports indicated that hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski agreed to pull the show, the pair spent much of Tuesday complaining about being blindsided by the decision and threatened to quit if it happened again.

“We were very disappointed,” Scarborough said suggesting the next time a major news event needs coverage, he and Mika “will be in the chairs” on Morning Joe covering it, or else the network can get “somebody else.”

  • A media ‘nervous breakdown’? Calls for Biden’s withdrawal produce some extraordinary moments

A media ‘nervous breakdown’? Calls for Biden’s withdrawal produce some extraordinary moments

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK – If President Joe Biden successfully resists some extraordinary calls in the media to abandon his reelection effort following last week’s debate, he may reflect on the moment that MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski looked into the camera Monday to begin a 15-minute essay of support.

The “Morning Joe” co-host denounced the “screaming, mocking, jeering” headlines and editorials suggesting Biden leave the campaign following several halting, confused passages by the president during his CNN debate with former President Donald Trump.

The New York Times editorial board urged Biden’s exit, along with some of the newspaper’s columnists. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution followed suit in a front-page editorial on Sunday. The New Yorker’s editor David Remnick wrote that “there is honor in recognizing the hard demands of the moment.” The Washington Post said it hoped Biden spent the weekend soul-searching.

“It has been a collective nervous breakdown like nothing I’ve ever seen,” said Chris Whipple, author of “The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House.”

    The ‘Morning Joe’ saga

Nowhere, perhaps, were raw nerves exposed quite like they’ve been on “Morning Joe,” where co-hosts Brzezinski and her husband, Joe Scarborough, have been among Biden’s most consistent supporters. With Biden reportedly a frequent viewer, there’s often a sense that the show’s guests are talking to the president, much like with Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” when Trump was in office.

A funereal Scarborough suggested Friday that Biden consider abandoning the campaign, saying that “if he were CEO and he turned in a performance like that, would any Fortune 500 company keep him on?” It led to some awkward moments with his wife, like when Scarborough said she didn’t have to raise her voice when she resisted criticism on Biden.

Yet Scarborough was absent on Monday — on a planned vacation, his wife and network said — and Brzezinski opened the show on her own.

She conceded that Biden’s debate performance was terrible and blamed his staff for overworking him. Age brings wisdom, but the deleterious impacts need to be managed, she said. She listed how Biden had recovered from personal and political problems in the past.

“I still believe in Joe Biden,” she said. “I’ve learned that counting him out is always a mistake, and doing that right now would be catastrophic for the country.”

An occasional guest of the show, Mara Gay of the Times’ editorial board, was on to defend her newspaper’s stance, and Brzezinski took a swipe at those who concentrated more on Biden than Trump. “I don’t want to hear from editorial boards who have missed a massive story on the other side or have become inured to it,” she said.

Strong wording from across the news industry

The Times’ editorial, published Sunday, called Biden “the shadow of a great public servant.”

“The greatest public service that Mr. Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for reelection,” the newspaper said.

Times columnist Thomas Friedman wrote that watching the Biden-Trump debate “made me weep.” Colleague Lydia Polgreen wrote that a Democratic ticket led by Vice President Kamala Harris “has a pretty nice ring to it.” And Maureen Dowd, who has an extensive history covering Biden, headlined her column, “The Ghastly vs. The Ghostly.”

If Biden continued the race, he’d be guilty of a Trump-like self-interest, she wrote. “He has age-related issues,” Dowd wrote, “and these only go in one direction.”

Whipple said he doesn’t expect opinion pieces in The Times would have much sway in the White House. The Biden campaign has been critical of the amount of space the newspaper has devoted to voter concerns about the president and his age.

“Nothing will make Joe Biden more determined to run for reelection than a New York Times editorial urging him to drop out,” Whipple said. “It is like oxygen for him.”

Biden thrives on being underestimated, he said. Biden, who once talked of being a transitional president, has been surprised at the way Trump and his movement have remained politically strong. The desire to stop him, along with a politician’s traditional instinct not to want to leave the stage, has fueled his campaign, Whipple said.

The author said Biden needs now to erase what The New Yorker’s Remnick wrote was the agonizing experience of watching him “wander into senselessness onstage.”

“It is bound to obliterate forever all those vague and qualified descriptions from White House insiders about good days and bad days,” Remnick wrote. “You watched it, and, on the most basic human level, you could only feel pity for the man and, more, fear for the country.”

The influential Georgia newspaper’s editorial headline was, “It’s Time for Biden to Pass the Torch.”

Yet in another swing state, Pennsylvania, The Philadelphia Inquirer took another tack. Biden shouldn’t be the presidential candidate dropping out, the newspaper said in an editorial over the weekend.

“There was only one person at the debate who does not deserve to be running for president,” the Inquirer wrote. “The sooner Trump exits the stage, the better off the country will be.”

Meltdown: Joe Scarborough Says Biden ‘Cannot Beat Trump’, Suggests He Needs To Be Replaced To Save Democracy

The media in general is having quite a morning following last night’s presidential debate. Joe Scarborough might be having the worst one of all.

As reported earlier by The Political Insider, the debate was an all-out debacle for President Biden who often looked bewildered, slurred his words, misstated facts, and lost his train of thought with, as the New York Times said, “mouth agape.”

The normally compliant media saw the slow-motion car wreck in real-time and immediately began plotting Biden’s removal as the presumptive Democrat nominee in 2024.

Count Scarborough, who just three months ago declared the President to be “beyond cogent” and intellectually “better than he’s ever been”, among that group suggesting that may be the path forward.

“Joe Biden now cannot beat Donald Trump,” he said party insiders were telling him.

Joe Scarborough – Replace Biden To Save Democracy!

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said that the Democrats need to make a crucial decision to force Biden out in the name of ‘democracy.’

Funny how the media’s interpretation of ‘democracy’ is always plotting a way to get rid of a candidate chosen by the people. Like it or not, a majority of Democrats chose Biden.

Scarborough said he’d even say these things to his mother “if I believed she was standing in the way of our goals.”

    Geez. What a guy.

“Now we’re talking about … democracy. Again, I’m not saying that everything happens today and maybe we wait a week,” he explained adding, “This is a battle for the future of American democracy.”

“And now is a good time,” he declared. “In June, thank God, in June, not October, in June, this is the last chance for Democrats to decide whether this man we’ve known and loved for a very long time is up to the task of running for the president of the United States.”

    What a turnabout.

This past March, the same man said of Biden:

“I’ve said it for years now, he’s cogent. But I undersold him when I said he was cogent. He’s far beyond cogent. In fact, I think he’s better than he’s ever been — intellectually, analytically — because he’s been around for fifty years.”

    Joe Scarborough

So bold was his proclamation that he told viewers “F you if you can’t handle the truth.”

“This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever,” he stated rather proudly, in defiance of reality.

RELATED: Watch MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Repeatedly Using The Phrase ‘Bloodbath’

    The Meltdown Continues

Aside from fretting that President Biden must be removed in order to save democracy, Joe Scarborough gifted us with this incredible interaction this morning.

In light of that wild proclamation, his wife Mika Brzezinski urged everybody on the panel to just calm down.

“Everybody calm down, and I’ll tell you why. I mean, it’s fine to not spin what happened last night. He had a terrible night,” Brzezinski urged.

“By the way, Mika, everyone’s calm here,” Scarborough said.

He later snapped, “You’re the only one raising your voice.”

Imagine a Fox News host talked down to his wife like that on television what the reaction would be.

Oh, and it’s definitely panic, Joe.

The media today looks exactly like Will Ferrell in Old School. Telling everybody, “We can’t have anyone freak out out there okay?! We gotta keep our composure!”

They’re panicked. Joe is panicked. And so is the nation for that matter.

NBC says it will cut ties with former RNC head Ronna McDaniel after days of employee objections

    [ad_1]

NEW YORK – NBC News will cut ties with former Republican National Committee chief Ronna McDaniel, hired last week as an on-air political contributor, following a furious protest by some of its journalists and commentators, according to a memo from the top official of the network’s news division.

The communication to network staff Tuesday from NBC News Group Chairman Cesar Conde comes four days after the network said that McDaniel had joined as a paid contributor to offer political analysis over all of its platforms, including the liberal cable news network MSNBC.

The response from journalists and others within the network was swift — and public. Former “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd criticized his bosses on the air Sunday for the hire, saying he didn’t know what to believe from her after she supported former President Donald Trump in “gaslighting” and “character assassination” following the 2020 election.

An extraordinary succession of MSNBC hosts — Joe Scarborough, Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, Nicolle Wallace, Jen Psaki and Lawrence O’Donnell — all publicly protested the decision to hire McDaniel on their shows Monday.

“It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to acknowledge that you’re wrong,” Maddow said on her show.

Todd said that many NBC News journalists were uncomfortable with the hiring because of McDaniel’s “gaslighting” and “character assassination” while at the RNC.

Megyn Kelly Annihilates Biden – ‘Trump Will Win The Election’

    Opinion

Source YouTube: Megyn Kelly, Fox News

The former Fox News host Megyn Kelly spoke out against President Joe Biden on Monday night, saying that recent polling numbers that show him training Donald Trump by 35 points are “devastating” for him.

Kelly Sounds Off On Trump And Biden

“If nothing changes, Trump will win the election,” Kelly said as she talked to The Fifth Column co-host Kmele Foster and International Women’s Forum Senior Policy Analyst Inez Stepman.

Kelly went on to call out both Biden and Donald Trump for not passing immigration reform, slamming what she feels is the false notion of the migrants being portrayed as “asylum seekers,” saying most of their claims are “bulls***.’

“It’s all bulls*** because most of the asylum seekers are not seeking asylum. It’s a lie!” Kelly said. “They could have sought asylum in Mexico. They went right through Mexico because they want to be here.”

“They don’t want to actually assimilate, a lot of them, but they want their government check,” she continued. “They want a driver’s license. They want to do all the things that American citizens do without doing any of the things that people who immigrated here legally and jumped through all the hoops had to do.”

    Kelly Doubles Down

Kelly went on to say that despite that, “there could be more funding for asylum claims to be processed” and Biden and Trump “didn’t do it” even though they each had both houses of Congress for the first two years of their presidencies.

“Those people should be processed, and we should figure out who genuinely needs our help and shares our value,” Kelly added. “But we don’t do any of that. And now they want to give Mayorkas a magic wand to say ‘I deem ye asylum seekers. Welcome to America!’ That’s not how it works.”

Not stopping there, Kelly proceeded to rip into Trump’s main rival for the Republican presidential nomination Nikki Haley for her appearance on “Saturday Night Live!” over the weekend.

“I’ve got serious questions about whether this is a good idea,” Kelly exclaimed. “What’s next? ‘The Daily Show?’ How about Scarborough? Tiptoe through those tulips. Rachel Maddow? Joy Reid? Why doesn’t she go on her show? I don’t get it.”

“I like the Vivek Ramaswamy philosophy of like going everywhere and trying to get as many votes as you can get. I’m just not sure SNL is one of the venues where there’s any potential votes available,” she continued.

    Kelly Calls Out The Obamas

Back in September, Kelly questioned if Barack and Michelle Obama are the people really running Biden’s government.

“There are a lot of people who think the Obamas are already running the government and that there is some sort of shadow puppet situation going on that they’re controlling,” she declared, according to The Daily Beast. “There’s been questions from the beginning—is it Joe Biden really making the calls?”

“I think Michelle Obama is seen as a savior figure by the Democrats who think she’s the most beautiful person ever,” she added. “They think she’s the strongest leader. They think she’s their big hope.”

Joe Scarborough Delivers Blistering Takedown Of Mike Johnson’s Gun Logic

    [ad_1]

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough slammed House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) “preposterous” comments against gun reform following a mass shooting in Maine that left 18 people dead.

On Wednesday, the same day Johnson was elected speaker, a gunman opened fire with an assault-style rifle at a bowling alley and a bar in Lewiston.

In an interview on Fox News Thursday, the Louisiana Republican said the problem is not guns, but “the human heart,” and argued it’s “not the time to be talking about legislation.”

On “Morning Joe” Friday, Scarborough noted that the human heart “is not made of steel, and it can’t repel the bullets.”

“Let me get confirmation from Katty,” he added, asking British-Swiss journalist Katty Kay. “Do they have human hearts in Britain and France and Germany and Spain? And by the way, do they have video games there? Do they have mental health problems?”

None of those countries have gun laws anywhere near as relaxed as the U.S., or gun ownership levels anywhere near as high. Mass shootings there are rare.

Later in the broadcast, Scarborough said Johnson knew he was being dishonest and “he knows that the United States has a problem unique to these types of shootings.”

“I can’t believe we actually have a politician that will say in 2023 after a shooting, now is not the time to talk about mass shootings,” he said.

Republican lawmakers — many of whom receive substantial campaign support from the gun lobby — have concocted myriad excuses for mass shootings over the years, blaming just about everything but the guns.

There have already been 566 mass shootings in the U.S. this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive’s tally.

Pointing to this figure, Scarborough wondered, if “now is not the time” to talk about it, when is it?

“There are no breaks in America anymore between mass shootings,” he said.

“We have more mass shootings in America every year than we have days in the year,” he added.

The suspect in the Maine shooting was still on the loose Friday morning.

Joe Scarborough Drops Taunting S-Bomb On Trump Lawyers Who’ve Flipped

    [ad_1]

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday spelled out how it was all fun and games for Donald Trump’s lawyers as they assisted the former president in his alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat… until it wasn’t.

Jenna Ellis on Tuesday became the third former Trump attorney (following Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro) to plead guilty in the Georgia election subversion case.

Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, meanwhile, has reportedly been granted immunity to testify under oath in the Department of Justice’s election interference case against Trump.

“This is sort of the ‘Christmas Story’ metaphor that I’m sure every great legal mind across America has been thinking, the BB gun,” said Scarborough. “It’s all a lot of fun until it puts somebody’s eyes out.”

Trump’s lawyers, in the aftermath of his 2020 election defeat, were running around thinking, per Scarborough: “Oh, look what he’s saying, he’s getting away with it, this is fun, we’re getting to own the libs, we’re getting to own the press.’”

But it came crashing down for them when they saw charges.

“It may have been a shock to some of these lawyers, but if you try to overturn an American election, well, the law is coming after you. We are a nation of laws, not a nation of men,” said Scarborough.

“It’s one thing to be making shit up outside of a courtroom,” he added. “It’s quite another to walk into that courtroom and get five to 10 years.”

‘Morning Joe’ Brands Rudy Giuliani With A Blistering New Nickname

    [ad_1]

Rudy Giuliani has gone from “America’s Mayor” to “America’s Deadbeat,” according to “Morning Joe” hosts Willie Geist and Joe Scarborough.

The MSNBC personalities coined the moniker Friday as they recapped the latest in the former Donald Trump attorney’s fall from grace.

“I don’t know if he faces prison, if he faces bankruptcy, if he faces additional charges,” said Scarborough. “It’s just from from all directions. And this is the cost, of course, when you turn your life over to Donald Trump.”

Geist said that it appears Giuliani can’t pay his legal bills.

“It was all fun and games until the indictments started coming down,” he said. “And now, like for so many of the people around Donald Trump, the bill is coming due.”

Giuliani, once celebrated as America’s Mayor for his leadership of New York City after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is dealing with enormous legal and financial woes following his heavy involvement in Trump’s attempted coup.

This week, news broke that former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson accused Giuliani of groping her on Jan. 6, 2021, the day that right-wing rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Giuliani denies the allegation.

And on Thursday, lawyers for 2020 election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss said in a court filing that Giuliani had failed to pay them $89,000 in attorneys’ fees by Wednesday, the deadline set by a federal judge.

Giuliani last month lost a civil defamation lawsuit brought by the two women after he falsely claimed they helped commit fraud during the 2020 election.

In Georgia’s Fulton County, he is charged alongside Trump in a sprawling racketeering indictment over a push to overturn the state’s election results. He was hit with 13 felony counts.

Giuliani was also identified as an uncharged co-conspirator in Trump’s federal election conspiracy indictment.

At the same time, he faces potential disbarment and multiple other lawsuits.

“From America’s Mayor to America’s Deadbeat,” Scarborough said on his MSNBC show. “Following Donald Trump can get you thrown in jail or ruin you financially.”

‘Morning Joe’ Hosts Can’t Get Over ‘Unbelievably Stupid’ New Trump Report

    [ad_1]

A new report about Donald Trump’s alleged sloppy handling of classified documents left MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts aghast.

“It’s so unbelievably stupid,” MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski said on Tuesday, describing the situation as almost “cartoonesque.”

She was discussing a Monday ABC News report that Molly Michael, a longtime assistant to the former president, told federal investigators that Trump wrote to-do lists for her on White House documents with visible classified markings.

According to ABC News sources, when Trump heard the FBI wanted to interview the aide last year, he told her: “You don’t know anything about the boxes.”

A Trump spokesperson told ABC News that the story lacks “proper context” and Trump “did nothing wrong.”

“This woman has turned over the information to the FBI and she’s probably in a very serious situation,” Brzezinski said.

Her co-host Joe Scarborough, a former congressman, was in disbelief.

“There are so many people that served this country … that understood exactly what they could and could not do. And he has breached that code of conduct so many times,” he said. “This is just the latest, most egregious, and one of the most reckless examples.”

Trump, who is currently running for president, has been charged under the Espionage Act with mishandling classified documents taken from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago resort. He is also accused of obstructing government efforts to retrieve them and defying a subpoena to do so. He has pleaded not guilty.

‘Like A Mobster’: Joe Scarborough Rips Trump’s Menacing Remark About Potential Jail Time

    [ad_1]

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tore into Donald Trump on Friday after the former president said it would be “dangerous” for special counsel Jack Smith to send him to jail.

Trump had told an Iowa radio station this week that the possibility of jail time is a “very dangerous thing to even talk about, because we do have a tremendously passionate group of voters — much more passion than they had in 2020 and much more passion than they had in 2016.”

Scarborough said Trump was “talking like a mobster.”

“He’s just so stupid,” the broadcaster said on his “Morning Joe” program. “He’s going up against the feds. He doesn’t understand that he can’t bully and bluster and threaten his way out of criminal charges that are coming, because he broke the law.”

Trump whipped his voters into a frenzy after losing his 2020 reelection bid, ultimately inspiring a number of them to lay siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to keep him in power.

Smith, who is investigating that incident and Trump’s handling of classified materials after leaving office, recently sent the former president a letter informing him that he’s a target of the Jan. 6 probe.

The move indicates that Trump could soon be charged in the case.

Last month, a federal grand jury indicted Trump on 37 felony counts in the documents investigation, alleging that the former president improperly took and stored classified materials, intentionally obstructed efforts to retrieve them and risked national security.

“He’s going to be charged for some of the most serious crimes in America,” Scarborough said on his show. “And his response, instead of talking to his lawyer, saying, ‘Hey, get me a deal, because they got me dead to rights, my own people are the people testifying against me’ ― instead of that, he goes on an Iowa radio show and, like a mobster, threatens Jack Smith.”

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Monday asked if extremist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) silence over her reported ouster from the far-right House Freedom Caucus was “like a scene out of ‘Seinfeld.’”

Scarborough referred to the second-season moment, in an episode titled “The Revenge,” in which George Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) rage-quits his job with a rant at his boss. He later realizes he’s messed up and has no new role to go to, returns to work and just pretends it didn’t happen.

“Is she Costanza-ing the House Freedom Caucus? I don’t know,” MSNBC politics reporter Ali Vitali admitted to Scarborough in a video shared online by Mediaite.

Greene’s removal from the group reportedly followed an argument with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) on the House floor. But the Georgia congresswoman has not acknowledged her reported departure.

It has been “one of the most vexing stories over the last two weeks of recess,” said Vitali. “It’s like taking advantage of the fact that not everyone is in the same Capitol complex to stop something from happening that eventually is still going to happen, which is being kicked out of the House Freedom Caucus.”
