In a video posted to Instagram Stories on Aug. 27, the rapper showed off a delicate gold chain with a golden “K” initial charm, presumably for his rumored girlfriend, Kendall Jenner. In fact, the necklace might just be a gift from Jenner herself, with fans saying she wore the exact same jewelry for a September 2022 Vogue video, per E! News.

    Although the two have kept the status of their relationship mostly private, they’ve seemed to be getting more comfortable in the public eye, recently stepping out for date night and showing some PDA at a Drake concert. Who knew it would be a necklace to finally make them Instagram official?

    As Bad Bunny filmed himself singing along to “Los Que Son” in the car, he gave his followers a better look at the necklace, featuring simple hammered gold and a dainty chain. Jenner also wore the necklace on “The Kardashians” season two, suggesting she may have bestowed the golden “K” to Bad Bunny as a thoughtful gesture (or he simply raided her jewelry box). The rapper also posted another tribute to Jenner with a photo of her 818 tequila brand, documenting some of their hike together, with Jenner’s voice in the background.

    While the details of their relationship remain mysterious, one thing we know about the two is their shared love for fashion. They previously stepped out together in a series of showstopping outfits, including Jenner’s sequined bodysuit and black thong at the Met Gala afterparty, and coordinating head-to-toe leather at SHOREbar in LA. With so many looks already under their belts, it’s unsurprising that the stylish couple share such similar taste in jewelry. All that’s missing now is a matching “B” necklace for Jenner.

    Jennifer Fisher built an empire on bijoux, but before she was a jewelry designer, she collected watches. “My two favorites that I rotate most often are my Large Men’s Yellow Gold Cartier Chrono and my Men’s Yellow Gold Rolex Daytona with a mother-of-pearl face,” she says.     Lorraine West, a first-generation Caribbean American, was born and raised in Central Islip, a suburb outside of New York City. Her parents—a carpenter and a professional baker—provided her primary source of design inspiration thanks to their own interest in all things DIY and dedication to both craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. In 1998, West earned her BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a focus on illustration. During her studies, she discovered the jewelry-supply store Toho Shoji, which remains a staple business in Bryant Park, and almost immediately, she became enthralled with jewelry making. “I walked in the store with $23 and out with zero, pliers, cutters, wire, and beads in hand,” West recalls. “I had no idea it would become a business.”

    Tell me about the fine-jewelry community. Is it a diverse environment? Is it a close-knit group? Do you help each other out? What do you love about it? How could it be improved? 

    I connected with the fine-jewelry community in 2019. I was a lone wolf prior, so it’s been a true joy to connect with OG jewelers I admired as a young adult, contemporaries, and emerging designers. It’s becoming more of a diverse environment, especially since 2020. I love the camaraderie among the jewelers I’ve connected with. We can cheer on one another, learn from [each other], and share resources. There’s room for all of us to shine. There’s still work to do. Industry leaders, editors, stylists, and retailers need to keep up with the pulse of the diverse talent and create space to nurture it.

    Would you say that you have a community in the jewelry space? How did you find it? 

    I found a jewelry community through participation in group pop-up markets, various jewelry-design initiatives, and networking events celebrating diversity. I made myself available to share my knowledge, experience, and resources. I have nothing to lose because my product offering is unique to me, and no matter what anyone else is doing, I stay true to my vision and design ethos. From my observation, the industry can be secretive, cliquish, and gatekeeping. One of my goals as a designer and leader in this space is to break those walls down.

    How are initiatives like the one De Beers has created to support diversity in the fine-jewelry space beneficial? Why do you think more companies should follow suit? 

    The De Beers initiative #BlackIsBrilliant that I was honored to be a part of has been life-changing. It has given me the opportunity to design high-jewelry pieces with De Beers sustainable diamonds from Botswana for the red carpet. It has expanded my design ethos and education about diamond provenance, from the mines to final goods distribution. More companies should follow suit and not just stop at short-term initiatives. Create space for diversity and provide resources and opportunities to assist in growing careers indefinitely.

    On Aug. 9, the newlyweds took to Instagram to show off their simple yet unique pieces while visiting the Tiffany Landmark store.     In line with their classic approach to all things romance, the couple exchanged their vows in Hungary at the same church Palvin’s parents got married in over three decades ago. For the blissful occasion, the 29-year-old bride donned a stunning wedding wardrobe that featured three dresses, Jimmy Choo pumps, and, of course, Tiffany & Co. jewelry, as spotlighted by Vogue. She kicked off the ceremony in a custom strapless design from Vivienne Westwood that featured the brand’s signature corset, accompanied by opera gloves, a ’90s-inspired choker, and a long veil. Palvin then switched things up with a slightly shorter dress by Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini that “made [her] feel like a modern princess.” Finally, she embraced her roots with a red dress at midnight, made by Hungarian designer Mero. Meanwhile, Sprouse stayed true to his simple taste with a black and white Canali suit, explaining, “I just wanted a very traditional tuxedo.”

    With a serious ’80s comeback on the horizon (scratch that—it’s already here), costume jewelry has rejoined the chat.     I’m declaring summer 2023 to be the summer of statement earrings.     Viewing cryptocurrency as “digital gold” may be a mistake.

    State Street Global Advisors’ George Milling-Stanley, whose firm runs the world’s largest gold exchange-traded fund, believes cryptocurrency is no substitute for the real thing due its vulnerability to big losses.

    “Volatility does not back up any claims for crypto to be a long-term strategic asset as a competitor to gold,” the firm’s chief gold strategist told CNBC’s “ETF Edge” earlier this week.

    Milling-Stanley’s firm is behind SPDR Gold Shares, the world’s largest physically backed gold ETF. It has a total asset value of more than $57 billion as of last week, according to the company’s website. The ETF is up 7% year to date as of Friday’s market close.

    Milling-Stanley believes gold’s 6,000-year history as a monetary asset serves as a significant sample basis to understand the benefits of investing in gold.

    “Gold is a hedge against inflation. Gold’s a hedge against potential weakness in the equity market. Gold’s a hedge against potential weakness in the dollar,” he noted. “To me, historically, the promise of gold for investors has … overtime [helped] to enhance the returns of a properly balanced portfolio.”

    The precious metal is having trouble this year staying above the $2,000 an ounce mark. But Milling-Stanley believes the economic backdrop bodes well for gold — recession or not.

    “It’s pretty clear that we’re liable to be in a period of slow growth. … Historically, gold has always done well during periods of slower growth,” Milling-Stanley said.

    Milling-Stanley also believes the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions in China should spark more demand for gold. It’s known as the world’s largest consumer of gold jewelry behind India, according to the World Gold Council.

    “It’s not just China and India. It’s Vietnam, it’s Indonesia, it’s Thailand and Korea. It’s a whole raft of Asian countries that are really the main drivers of gold jewelry demand,” Milling-Stanley said.

    Gold settled at $1,960.47 an ounce Friday. The commodity is up more than 7% so far this year.
