Alysa Liu has captivated the world with her infectious joy, incredible talent and alternative style, the latter of which is rarely found in the world of competitive figure skating.
The 20-year-old Olympic champion is easily recognizable for her black and blonde-striped hair and for her silver lip piercing that only appears when she smiles.
Alysa recently shared insight into the frenulum piercing, which sits in the middle of her upper gum and rests on her frontmost teeth, revealing that she did it herself at home.
“I pierced it a little over two years ago now,” she told TMJ4 News. “I had my sister hold up my lip, and I was looking in the mirror, and I had my piercing needle and then – yeah, I just put it through.”
Alysa later shared with reporters the story behind her unique hairstyle, which features rings of blonde that she has dubbed “halos”.
“I originally actually wanted raccoon stripes three years ago, but I was like, ‘Too much, too long, and it’s going to be hard to upkeep,’” she said during a press conference in January.
“Then I thought, I kind of want to be a tree, add a new ring every year, and so I did my second one the next year. It just grows out, and then so this year, I just did the same thing. I’m just gonna keep adding one every time.”
“I love masculine style so much. I feel really comfortable in it. Off the ice, I don’t dress as feminine. To me, that is skating,” she explained to Cosmopolitan.
“I’ll wear skirts, too, but I definitely love a good masculine street style. When I am at public events, and I’m wearing my usual style, people will say, ‘Oh, I thought you were, like, a snowboarder.’ I take it as a compliment. I like throwing people off,” she added.
Alysa retired from skating in 2022 and returned to the sport in 2024, with several stipulations for her coaches the second time around.
“I made a deal with my coaches: No one tells me what I’m gonna wear. No one tells me how my hair is gonna be. No one’s gonna try to change me. I’m going to pick my own programs and skate the sessions I want to skate,” she told the publication.
“Y’all are my coaches. You guys are going to help me and lead me in training, but I’m structuring it the way I want to.”
The California native added: “They mentioned some judges and higher-ups might be concerned. I said if they tell me to dye my hair back, I will quit. If they don’t like it and they want to give me less scores or treat me differently, that’s on them. If I change my hair, it’s gonna be because I wanted to.”
Alysa’s infectious energy won her millions of fans worldwide following her winning performance at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games in February.
As family life expands and routines become more layered, investing in reliable accessories becomes less about luxury and more about practicality. For parents exploring refined yet durable timepieces, collections such as tudor watches often stand out for their balance of heritage craftsmanship and everyday resilience. In a growing household where schedules overlap and responsibilities multiply, the right watch can quietly support both organisation and personal style.
When family life gets busier, precision matters
The early years of parenting revolve around nap schedules and feeding times. As children grow, calendars fill with school activities, appointments, sports clubs, and social events. Time stops being abstract and becomes a structural pillar of daily life.
Relying solely on a smartphone might seem convenient, but it often introduces distraction. Notifications interrupt focus, and quick time checks can turn into prolonged scrolling. A wristwatch offers immediate clarity. A simple glance provides what you need without pulling you into digital noise.
For parents juggling professional commitments alongside family responsibilities, this small distinction is powerful. Meetings, school pick ups, and after school activities demand punctuality. A dependable watch becomes a quiet partner in maintaining structure.
Choosing a watch that grows with your lifestyle
Family life evolves, and so should the accessories you rely on. A well chosen watch is not just for special occasions. It must transition seamlessly from weekday routines to weekend outings and formal events.
Everyday strength meets refined design
Parents need durability, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice sophistication. Look for models that combine strong case materials with timeless aesthetics. Stainless steel construction, high quality finishing, and robust crystals provide reassurance against daily wear.
Design versatility is equally important. Neutral tones and classic dial layouts ensure your watch pairs easily with both casual and professional attire. This eliminates the need for multiple accessories and simplifies decision making on busy mornings.
Comfort for long, active days
Parenting rarely involves sitting still. From carrying toddlers to attending school events and commuting to work, your watch must feel comfortable throughout extended wear.
Consider the following elements when assessing comfort and practicality:
A case size that suits your wrist without feeling bulky
A secure clasp that stays in place
A bracelet or strap that remains breathable and smooth against the skin
Clear, legible markers for quick time checks in any lighting
Understanding movements and maintenance
Beyond design, the internal mechanism of a watch plays a major role in long term satisfaction. Parents often prefer solutions that align with their tolerance for upkeep.
Mechanical watches offer craftsmanship and tradition, appealing to those who appreciate intricate engineering. They reflect movement and precision, qualities that resonate with structured family life. However, they may require occasional servicing to maintain optimal performance.
Automatic movements, powered by wrist motion, provide convenience while preserving mechanical appeal. If worn regularly, they operate smoothly without daily winding.
For families who prefer minimal intervention, certain modern movements are designed for reliability and ease. The key is understanding your routine. If you rotate between several accessories, choose a mechanism that matches how frequently you will wear the watch.
Creating small rituals in a busy household
In the midst of raising children, personal rituals often disappear. A watch can reintroduce a subtle sense of identity and routine. Putting it on each morning signals the start of a structured day. Removing it in the evening marks a transition into family time.
These small cues support mental clarity and can help separate work responsibilities from home life, even when both happen under the same roof.
A consistent storage habit also prevents damage or loss. Establishing one designated place for your watch encourages organisation, something especially valuable in households with curious young children.
Simple protective habits can extend longevity:
Keep the watch away from harsh chemicals and strong magnets
Wipe your watch clean after exposure to moisture or sweat
Ensure crowns and pushers are properly secured before contact with water
These steps require little effort yet significantly reduce unnecessary wear.
Long term value in a growing family
As families expand, financial decisions often become more intentional. Investing in a well crafted watch can represent both practicality and lasting value. Rather than purchasing multiple lower quality accessories over time, selecting a durable and versatile piece supports sustainability.
A thoughtfully chosen timepiece can also carry emotional significance. It may accompany you through milestones such as a child’s first day at school, family celebrations, or career achievements. Over the years, it transforms from an accessory into a marker of shared history.
For parents in the United Kingdom balancing professional ambitions with family priorities, understated elegance combined with reliability is often the ideal combination. A watch that embodies these qualities adapts as children grow and routines shift.
Timeless confidence for every stage of parenthood
In a growing family, time feels both precious and scarce. The right watch does more than measure hours. It reinforces punctuality, supports daily structure, and reflects personal confidence.
By selecting a design that merges durability, comfort, and enduring style, parents can rely on a single piece through multiple life stages. As responsibilities evolve and children become more independent, that steady presence on your wrist remains constant.
A well chosen timepiece ultimately becomes part of your family story, quietly accompanying you through the busy, rewarding journey of raising children while maintaining your own sense of identity and purpose.

Padlock & Key Dangle Charm
Pandora is the world’s largest jewellery brand. No, that isn’t an exaggeration. Its jewellery is sold in more than 100 countries through more than 6,500 points of sale, including more than 2,500 concept stores. The headquarters are in Copenhagen, but the brand employs 32,000 people worldwide and crafts its jewellery at two LEED-certified facilities in Thailand using mainly recycled silver and gold. We love the label for many reasons, but the biggest one has got to be that its committed to leadership in sustainability and has set science-based targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% across its own operations and value chain by 2030.
They’ve just recently collaborated with London-based fashion designer Priya Ahluwalia on an exclusive range of engraveable symbols (like the padlock charm above), sketched by Ahluwalia herself. It’s only available until September, though, so act fast.

Sam Smith rocked the Royal Albert Hall stage for their much-awaited BBC Proms gig.
While we all knew that the BBC Concert Orchestra would be supporting Sam’s stellar headlining performance on July 2nd, there was one glittering appearance that no one was expecting.
The British star dazzled in the stunning Topaz ‘Heart of the Ocean’ necklace by Asprey. The showstopper features a 40-carat heart-shaped blue topaz pendant, surrounded by 23 carats of round brilliant diamonds, on an 18-carat white gold chain.
This iconic necklace pays tribute to the original Asprey & Garrard ‘Heart of the Ocean’, commissioned by 20th Century Fox for James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster, Titanic. For the movie, it was crafted with gold settings and coloured glass instead of diamonds. (In 1990 Asprey and Garrard merged to form one company and then in 2002 the brands split, in case you were wondering.)
After the film’s success, Asprey & Garrard recreated the necklace with precious stones, boasting a stunning 171-carat blue sapphire pendant and 102 carats of diamonds.
Celine Dion donned the iconic necklace at the 1998 Academy Awards
Celine Dion wore the masterpiece at the 1998 Academy Awards, where she won an Oscar for the film’s hit song, My Heart Will Go On. Later, the necklace was auctioned at Sotheby’s in Beverly Hills, benefiting the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.
Sam Smith sparked some buzz about whether their act would be appropriate for Proms, given their flair for bold outfits and risqué performances. The 32-year-old hitmaker silenced the sceptics by performing in a custom-made Vivienne Westwood gown designed by Andreas Kronthaler.
The jaw-dropping red dress featured an asymmetric neckline, a billowing skirt, and matching red gloves. Addressing the controversy with a sartorial wink, Sam told the audience, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to get my bum out. The clothes are staying on. This is an appropriate show. Even I know there’s a time and a place.”
Sam wowed the crowd with a setlist of their biggest hits, including Unholy, Lay Me Down, Latch, and Writing’s On The Wall.

There was always something a bit special about rummaging through my grandmother’s jewelry drawer when I was a child, picking through earlobe-numbing chunky studs and gaudy yet nostalgic clip-on earrings. The world felt infinite in my mother’s heels and my grandmother’s gold-knot jewelry when I was 10. For Heaven Mayhem founder Pia Mance, her late grandmother’s vintage jewelry isn’t just gold-plated goodness to put on with a little black dress on her way to cocktails with friends—it has grown into a multimillion-dollar empire.
You may have caught a glimpse of Heaven Mayhem, the jewelry and accessory line started by Mance in 2022, on your feed, whether it be on the ears of your college best friends or your celebrity parasocial besties. Hailey Bieber, Matilda Djerf, Aimee Song, and Justine Skye are all fans, so naturally, the brand has only blown up in the last few years thanks to its massive star backing and viral-worthy covets on social media. Before Heaven Mayhem was Heaven Mayhem, though, Mance started off the same as all of us: slowly going through her mother’s and grandmother’s old things.
“Growing up, I loved going through my mum’s closet and rummaging through her clothes, shoes, tights, but I was always very drawn toward the accessory selection, as she held on to a lot of my late grandmother’s pieces from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s,” Mance tells me. “Those pieces weren’t designer or anything, but they were all so well-made, timeless, and special to me. To be able to create similar pieces like that, which I really resonate with, holds a special meaning in my heart.”
It’s that time of year… no, we’re not talking about the holiday season but rather the point when you begin to get the itch for massive change. With a new year on the horizon, it’s only natural to become dead-set on dramatically shifting your life. For most, that change comes from setting resolutions, but for fashion people, it means overhauling your look entirely. While there are multiple ways to go about this mission, not everything will give you that fix without regrets after. Dyeing your hair? You could come to hate it. Or cleaning out your closet? It’s too big an undertaking. Basically, some changes are a bit over the top, but not all hope is lost.
There’s one simple way to feel like you’ve done something without any of the pitfalls: swap out your jewelry. When in doubt, adopting a few new jewelry trends can freshen up your look without breaking the bank on an entirely new wardrobe. But if you’re unsure which jewelry trends will offer you that “shiny-new” feeling, don’t fret. We’ve got you. Ahead, we’re breaking down the six biggest winter jewelry trends based on their prominence in F/W 23 collections and S/S 24 collections that are sure to be instant hits. Trust us when we say these trends will indeed transform your life (or, at the very least, your style).
Leading the charge is Maria Tash, who has created an empire out of intricate and unexpected piercings (and a celeb following that includes the likes of Rihanna, Blake Lively and Zoe Kravitz). Plus brands like Laura Bond, Astrid & Miyu, Tada & Toy,Dinny Hall, Orelia, Matilde Jewellery and Missoma all offer dinky studs, cuffs, hoops and huggies to embellish each piercing beautifully.
So, how many piercings is too many? We say there’s no such thing as too many – so long as you go with someone reputable and experienced to decorate your ears.
Before we dive into the trends, though, the key to getting and maintaining a beautiful curated ear is, of course, piercing aftercare. “Most people don’t take great care of their piercings until there is a problem – then they care a lot,” says Laura Bond, founder of Laura Bond Jewellery.
She recommends being proactive in your aftercare (no matter the piercing) and using a saline solution twice daily. While salt water works fine, it’s often a faff while rushing around in the morning and in the evenings after a long day, so buying a premade solution such as NeilMed Piercing Aftercare Mist does the trick. In addition, never twist or fiddle with your piercings as this causes irritation and can increase the risk of rejection, which is never something you want.
Now, onto the fun part — the inspiration! For those who can’t quite wrap their heads around the idea of a curated ear, we’ve got the ultimate guide to every single different positioning of your piercings. Plus, we dive into the price and the pain factor so you can start planning for your next piercing straight away…
Should I get an ear piercing?
As cool, dainty or provocative ear piercings can be, before you decide what type of piercing to get, you should consider if you should get one at all. You should always make an informed decision when choosing to get one, so here are a few things you should consider before deciding on which piercing to go for:
Although there is no specific age requirement for getting your ears pierced, some experts recommend waiting until a child is at least six months old before piercing their ears for the first time. This is because the earlobes are still developing, and the skin is more delicate in younger children. Additionally, some piercers may have their age restrictions, so make sure to check with the piercing studio beforehand.
It is essential to consider your personal health before getting ears pierced. If you have any medical conditions or are on any medications, you should consult a doctor before any piercing. Also, if you have any allergies, especially to metal, you may need to use hypoallergenic jewellery to avoid allergic reactions.
Getting ear piercings can be relatively affordable, usually well under £100 – but the prices rack up depending on the jewellery you go for.
Getting your ears pierced in different areas of your ear will have different pain factors. Although the sharp pain usually only lasts mere moments, you should take into consideration your pain threshold and your tolerance to needles. Of course, all piercings come with a small risk of complication, which is also worth considering.
Ear piercings require maintenance, and it’s essential to clean the piercing site regularly to prevent infections. If you don’t feel quite ready to commit to the aftercare routine, you might want to hold off on getting any piercings.
Your lifestyle – i.e. day-to-day – may also determine if you should get your ears pierced. For instance, if you’re involved in sports or any physical activity, you may have to remove the ear piercings temporarily, which could affect the healing process. Additionally, some workplaces may have policies against wearing ear piercings, (for example if you work with food or children) so you may have to remove them before going to work.
7. External factors + personal preference:
Some people may also take into consideration whether their guardians or school may have an issue with piercings. However, ultimately, the decision to get your ears pierced should be based on personal preference (as long as you’re a consenting adult of course). If you’re interested in getting your ears pierced and understand the risks and aftercare requirements, then we say go ahead.
We’ve entered that time of year. No, we’re not talking about the holidays. We’re referring to the start of engagement season. Statistically speaking, we see the largest number of proposals between November and February. And for those who are planning a proposal (or awaiting one), it can be overwhelming. Perhaps the most trying aspect of all is finding the engagement ring.
First of all, you have to address a learning curve when it comes to shopping for diamond rings, from understanding the four Cs (cut, color, clarity, and carat) to researching what constitutes a conflict-free and ethically made piece. Once you know what to look for, you still have to consider your budget, the brand name, and your partner’s personal preferences. All of this is to say that shopping for an engagement ring is not an easy task, and it can become even more challenging if you’re shopping for someone picky. We all know that any ultra-stylish soon-to-be-engaged person won’t settle for a basic cookie-cutter ring.
Unless they sent you precisely what they want or you already know what you want, we can guess that you clicked on this article because you’re stressed about looking for a ring. In order to make the process easier, we’ve done some research to find 39 unique engagement rings on the market right now. Whether you’re hoping to find the perfect engagement ring for your partner, helping someone pick one for a loved one, or trying to drop hints that they need to hurry up and put a ring on it, there’s something ahead for everyone.
There’s nothing quite like celebrity engagement rings to give you the ultimate in sparkler inspiration. Effortlessly gorgeous pictures of the couple, a string of heartfelt messages and, of course, the bling itself – often bigger, sparklier and more lavish than we could ever imagine. So you can’t blame us for keeping track of some of the most stunning celebrity engagement rings out there – they’re some of our favourite pictures to look at.
Fortunately for us, love is definitely in the air right now – in fact, we’ve been pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to recent celeb proposals in the last few months. Take Ashley Benson’s gorgeous solitaire sparkler from her now-husband Brandon Davis, while Thom Evans presented Nicole Scherzinger with a classic diamond band during his beach proposal in summer. And that’s just the beginning.
Remember when Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown surprised fans in April with her engagement to Jake Bongiovi? In true celebrity engagement announcement style, she shared some beautiful photos as she sported her new diamond ring. “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, I want ’em all,” she adorably wrote in the caption.

A lot of Hollywood’s emerging talent have also said “yes”, and had a fancy ring to show for it – including Rebel Wilson and her wife-to-be Ramona Agruma, and the ever-adorable Kate Bosworth and Justin Long.
And it hasn’t just been the engagement rings this year that have blown our minds. One of our favourites of all time has to be Hailey Bieber’s. After months spent trying to get a glimpse of her rock, the model was officially photographed for the 2018 September issue of Vogue Mexico, complete with her engagement ring, and it was even bigger than we first imagined.
Now that I’ve clocked in close to ten years of experience in the fashion industry, I know there are a handful of credible sources to trust for style advice. I can always count on my gut when scrolling through pages of new arrivals, but when in doubt, I turn to my editor colleagues.
Whenever I’m in a pickle on what to buy, they always come through with their expert advice. This time, I needed help picking out my holiday gifting pieces. I want to gift my loved ones with timeless jewelry this season, so we collectively turned to Bloomingdale’s to take a look at its vast collection. The retailer boasts a truly impressive assortment of jewelry, from 18-karat-gold necklaces to staple diamond earrings as well as classic silver fine watches. The options are endless and we spent hours narrowing down the top picks. Ahead, you’ll find all the pieces that got my editor friends’ stamp of approval.
As special as memories themselves can be, it’s nice to have physical reminders of them. This can be in the form of printed photos, souvenirs from travel destinations or even permanent jewellery.
That was the train of thought of Katie Skelly and her partner of 10 years Gilbert Walden. Having shared a decade of memories together, the two wanted to find a way to immortalise shared experiences and ensure happy moments could always be remembered.
And so, together they set up Orbit Bloom, a first-of-its-kind permanent jewellery experience in Australia. Though there are stores where you can be fitted with permanent jewellery, this is currently the only mobile service you can book for private events. It can be set up at weddings, events or any other milestone moments, giving guests the opportunity to be reminded of the day in the form of a permanent bracelet.
“As a sentimental person, I’ve always looked to my jewellery as symbolic of the moments they were gifted or purchased in,” says Skelly. “To me, jewellery isn’t an accessory, but a beautiful way of carrying love around on my person.”
The way it works is that guests at an event are presented with a selection of 10 different styles of bracelet chains they can choose from. They’re then fitted to a chain length they like, before it’s welded closed in an instant, no torch ‘blooming’ process.
The chain is then polished, and they’re done with the chain able to last on their wrist for as long as they want it there. However, if you do need to be able to remove your jewellery for some reason, the duo can also create custom-fit bracelets with clasps that are made to measure and welded on the spot.
All chains from the collection are either 14k gold-filled, tarnish-resistant, hypoallergenic and free of irritants or made from 925 sterling silver. They’re hard-wearing, light-weight, water-resistant and, importantly for those who travel frequently, delicate enough to get you through airport security without trouble.
“While those looking for subtlety will love our dainty styles, we also have bolder pieces to suit those a little more daring,” says Skelly.
Orbit Bloom packages are determined based on location, chain selection and the number of guests taking part. Walden and Skelly work with clients to land on an experience that meets their means and expectations.
“In some cases, we even work with our clients to create bespoke charms,” says Walden. “Your memories are personal, so our experience is too.”
If you experience any prolonged pain, swelling, or signs of infection, do not hesitate to consult your piercer or a healthcare professional promptly.
What can go wrong with a tragus piercing?
While it’s not worth losing sleep over the risks if you’re dead-set on a tragus piercing (especially if you use a reputable piercer and following the aftercare guidelines), there are always possible risks to keep in mind. “Some people have a very small tragus, which makes it impossible to pierce,” says Hristova. “Be advised that a piercer has the right to decline your request and not pierce the tragus if they feel that it isn’t safe for you.” Other risks to be mindful of when having any piercing done include:
Inflammation and infection: Good aftercare is key. Avoid using makeup in the area, touching with dirty hands, or wearing earphones that might irritate the piercing while it heals. If you have any concerns or suspect an infection, speak to your piercer or seek medical advice.
Hypertrophic scarring: Fairly common in cartilage piercings due to excess collagen being produced at the site of the piercing, but should gradually improve.
keloid scarring: An abnormal, raised scar that can spread beyond the original wound. Check for any keloid history in your family before getting a piercing as it’s thought to be genetic.
Piercing rejection: Usually only an issue with surface piercings, where only the skin is pierced rather than the earring sitting right through the cartilage.
Can I wear Airpods with a tragus piercing?
During the healing process (which for a tragus can take between 6-12 months), Airpods should be avoided as they can irritate the piercing and lead to infection. “Tragus piercings may not be practical for people who use in-ear headsets or apparatus regularly for work,” adds Collins.
Can I sleep on a tragus piercing?
You will want to avoid sleeping on the tragus piercing for the first three to four months, while it heals. Side sleepers should consider getting a special pillow that has a cut-out section for your ear.
What materials are best for tragus piercings?
Below are the metals considered safe for piercing jewellery:
Implant-grade titanium: strong and biocompatible, it doesn’t contain nickel, which some people can be sensitive to.
Implant-grade stainless steel: Still considered a safe option, but is likely to contain some nickel, which can cause sensitivity in some people.
Gold and platinum: Safe and hypoallergenic. Spend more on solid gold rather than gold plating if you can, which can flake off and cause infection.

Why is Missoma so popular?
Every so often, A-listers and influencers will step away from wearing their usual multi-million-pound diamonds on the red carpet and instead don a jewellery brand that’s actually quite affordable, giving us an accessory story we can finally shop ourselves. They’ll get photographed in it constantly, the brand will go viral on Instagram and we’ll all be able to get a piece of the layered gold jewellery pie.

Hot Rox Multi Gemstone Large Hoop Earrings
Jennifer Lopez (now Affleck) sported Missoma’s Hot Rox hoops on the cover of a magazine back in 2007, and since then the brand has revived the collection due to huge popularity and demand. We’ll take several pairs, in that case.
Lorraine West, a first-generation Caribbean American, was born and raised in Central Islip, a suburb outside of New York City. Her parents—a carpenter and a professional baker—provided her primary source of design inspiration thanks to their own interest in all things DIY and dedication to both craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. In 1998, West earned her BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a focus on illustration. During her studies, she discovered the jewelry-supply store Toho Shoji, which remains a staple business in Bryant Park, and almost immediately, she became enthralled with jewelry making. “I walked in the store with $23 and out with zero, pliers, cutters, wire, and beads in hand,” West recalls. “I had no idea it would become a business.”
Tell me about the fine-jewelry community. Is it a diverse environment? Is it a close-knit group? Do you help each other out? What do you love about it? How could it be improved?
I connected with the fine-jewelry community in 2019. I was a lone wolf prior, so it’s been a true joy to connect with OG jewelers I admired as a young adult, contemporaries, and emerging designers. It’s becoming more of a diverse environment, especially since 2020. I love the camaraderie among the jewelers I’ve connected with. We can cheer on one another, learn from [each other], and share resources. There’s room for all of us to shine. There’s still work to do. Industry leaders, editors, stylists, and retailers need to keep up with the pulse of the diverse talent and create space to nurture it.
Would you say that you have a community in the jewelry space? How did you find it?
I found a jewelry community through participation in group pop-up markets, various jewelry-design initiatives, and networking events celebrating diversity. I made myself available to share my knowledge, experience, and resources. I have nothing to lose because my product offering is unique to me, and no matter what anyone else is doing, I stay true to my vision and design ethos. From my observation, the industry can be secretive, cliquish, and gatekeeping. One of my goals as a designer and leader in this space is to break those walls down.
How are initiatives like the one De Beers has created to support diversity in the fine-jewelry space beneficial? Why do you think more companies should follow suit?
The De Beers initiative #BlackIsBrilliant that I was honored to be a part of has been life-changing. It has given me the opportunity to design high-jewelry pieces with De Beers sustainable diamonds from Botswana for the red carpet. It has expanded my design ethos and education about diamond provenance, from the mines to final goods distribution. More companies should follow suit and not just stop at short-term initiatives. Create space for diversity and provide resources and opportunities to assist in growing careers indefinitely.
We talk about French style a lot at Who What Wear, often referring to Paris as the ultimate mecca for style. But, while the French capital is full of fashionable locals, it isn’t the only place we look to for inspiration. Much closer to home and brimming with chic brands and inhabitants is Los Angeles, where every trip to Erewhon or Sunset Tower is met with a bevy of need-to-copy wardrobe items, with jewelry being potentially the most enviable category of all.
We were excited to hear Logan Hollowell, an L.A.-based fine-jewelry designer beloved by Rocky Barnes, Elsa Hosk, and even Meghan Markle, was teaming up with Brilliant Earth, one of the world’s largest and most respected ethically-scoured fine-jewelry dealers. The duo is releasing a capsule collection inspired by nature.
The 12-piece Secret Garden collection, which came out today, features all of the style points that those familiar with Hollowell’s work know and love, including bright-colored gemstones like pink sapphires and emeralds as well as spiritual and enchanted shapes and details, with all of the impeccable quality that Brilliant Earth has been known for since its creation in 2005. “The responsibly sourced lab diamonds, gemstones, and recycled precious metals featured in this collection highlight the wonder of nature and our shared reverence for the planet,” says Kathryn Money, Brilliant Earth’s SVP of Merchandising and Retail. “Both our brands are committed to quality, ethical sourcing, and creating truly beautiful pieces.”

With a serious ’80s comeback on the horizon (scratch that—it’s already here), costume jewelry has rejoined the chat. For years, the fashion world stayed loyal to chunky gold hoop earrings and understated pendant necklaces, rarely straying into anything too showy. But that’s no longer the look the cool crowd is leaning toward. Instead, oversize studs, cuff bracelets, and chokers are all experiencing a high right now, thanks to brands like Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Alaïa.
There’s only one problem. While the above brands might be designing pieces that look like what we’d call “costume jewelry,” they certainly aren’t pricing them like the costume earrings and bracelets my grandmother always had in her jewelry box. Luckily, they aren’t the only brands who think this retro trend is worth getting in on. In fact, the stores I hear named most often when I ask fashion people what jewelry they’re wearing aren’t expensive at all. Nine times out of ten, they name Zara, J.Crew, or Anthropologie, though you’d never know it by looking at the pricey-looking jewels.
See why so many budget-friendly style experts are buying their baubles for less than $100 at the above three retailers to cosplay as the lotto winner by scrolling down.
