  • Two Center Pieces Plan To Return: Johnson and Dickerson Back for Eagles – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

    Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Perhaps the best thing to come out of the Chip Kelly era was a Right Tackle from the University of Oklahoma in 2013.

That Right Tackle — one Lane Johnson — wouldn’t become just another great Eagles Offensive Lineman; he would become one of its greatest.

This week,  Johnson announced that he will be returning for his fourteenth NFL season , where he will once again anchor a line allowing Jalen Hurts another shot at pocket perfection in 2026.

And that is where we have another piece of really good news for the Eagles.

    Landon Dickerson

Although Johnson missed the last seven games of the season and an NFC Wildcard Game with an ankle injury — teammate Landon Dickerson, despite a myriad of injuries — will also be returning next season. It also means that the 2025 Eagles Offensive Line could potentially return intact, including Jordan Mailata, Tyler Steen, and Cam Jurgens.

    Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Even so , the man who brought Johnson his first Super Bowl Ring — Doug Pederson may never again have to pay for a meal or a drink in Philadelphia — but he will not be his new Offensive Coordinator. There will not be a reunion with the man who stands with quarterback Nick Foles in the bronze statue that resides outside of Lincoln Financial Field, capturing one of the best moments in franchise history, nor with the same man who drafted Jalen Hurts and won a Super Bowl with Brandon Graham, Jason Kelce, and Jake Elliott — alongside Johnson.

Lane Johnson’s presence is more than just helpful. The Eagles are 120–62–1 with him in the lineup — including nine playoff appearances, three NFC Championships, and two Lombardi Trophies.

Since arriving in 2021 after being drafted from Alabama — Landon Dickerson has helped the Eagles to two Super Bowl appearances, three NFC East Titles — and one championship last season in 2025.

It means that Philadelphia can count on two of the most important pieces of its offensive line.

For at least one more season.

  • Stoutland University Re-Opening as Kuper College  – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

With the announcement that the Eagles would need to be in search of a new Offensive Line Coach. Panic began to set in. Not only would a new offensive coordinator be taking over for the 5th consecutive year. But a vacancy was suddenly open that hasn’t been available since 2013.

The Eagles had kept the doors to Stoutland University open for 13 seasons. With players including Jason Peters, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks having come and gone through the Eagles doors. While the legacy will live on as long as Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson continue to play for the city of Philadelphia.

    Kuper’s 2025

Chris Kuper spent the last 4 years as the Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach. With Mannion having spent time in 2023 with the Vikings, another familiar face to his new staff makes sense.

Could a resume stack up against Jeff Stoutland’s tenure? Unlikely. But the Vikings were building towards something that ultimately didn’t work out in 2025.

When it was all said and done. The Vikings tied 2nd for most sacks given up with a total of 60. Tied with the Chargers and Jets. Only the Raiders gave up more with a total of 64.

Minnesota also saw three different Quarterbacks across the 17 game season. With starts from J.J. McCarthy to Max Brosmer and Carson Wentz. Injured QBs were the least of the Vikings concern.

    Injuries, Injuries, Injuries

Last offseason, the Vikings signed Ryan Kelly and Will Fries to play Center & Right Guard. Slotting in with Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Niell returning from previous seasons. The Vikings also added Donovan Jackson with the 24th overall pick in the 2025 draft.

Things started slow for the Vikings as Darrisaw didn’t play until Week 3 and only started 10 games.

Ryan Kelly only saw action in 8 games throughout the season, being placed in concussion protocol weeks 2, 4 and 16.

While both Jackson & O’Neill finished the season with 14 games. The Vikings OL was constantly rotating out players and rarely saw consistent starting lineups.

With tattered and bruised players, even the Eagles offensive line struggled only missing Lane Johnson for 7 games and Landon Dickerson for 2.

If given a healthy season, there’s opportunity for Kuper to cement himself in a new era of Eagles football. One that might find itself in need of new cornerstone pieces to the offensive line.

With the draft coming in April, are you expecting the Eagles to draft OL in the first round?

  • Filling Out The 2026 Coaching Staff – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

We’re a few days from finding out the winner of Super Bowl LX and the Eagles have already begun preparations to fill out position coaches while simultaneously opening up more availabilities. Making the offseason checklist a little bit longer.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

    Kevin Patullo

It didn’t take very long after the wildcard round for Howie Roseman to confirm the Eagles would be looking for their 5th Offensive Coordinator during the 6-year Nick Sirianni tenure. Moving on from Patullo was the right decision, as the Eagles struggled 18+ weeks and seemingly burned some extra bridges as things went on. With an Eagles offense that had 10/11 returning offensive starters, (Mekhi Becton – Tyler Steen) the Eagles went from a powerhouse ranking 5th in PPG (29.0) during the 2024 campaign into 19th with only 22.1 PPG.

Chopping off an entire touchdown from the Eagles scoring would’ve been enough points for them to finish the year 14-3. Alas, safe & turnover free football ended their season over a month ago.

    Sean Mannion

Since retiring in 2023 Mannion has been involved with the Green Bay Packers as both Offensive Assitant and Quarterbacks Coach. Getting to work alongside Matt LaFleur, viewed as an elite coach around the league. And working with the development of Jordan Love the past few seasons has primed Mannion for a promotion heading into the 2026 season.

Was he the Eagles first option? Probably not. But as Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll and other top OC/HC options came off the board the Eagles had to strike for their guy. Giving Mannion autonomy with the offense opened the door for creativity and the ability to bring in guys he wanted.

Yesterday, the Eagles hired Ryan Mahaffey as the Run Game Coordinator and Tight Ends Coach. Filling out roles previously filled by Jeff Stoutland and Jason Michael.

Mahaffey was previously in Green Bay with Mannion as the wide receivers coach and Assistant offensive line coach.

So far the Eagles new hires are proving that Mannion will get to bring in his own staff. But pushing out tenured coaches like Jeff Stoutland who helped develop elite players from Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson, to turning a rugby player into an All-Pro in Jordan Mailata.

There’s also no current answer whether the team will retain Scot Loeffler who might have been the mastermind behind getting Dallas Goedert 11 touchdowns in 2025. While it seems coaches like Aaron Moorehead who has hung onto his job as wide receiver coach for the last 6 years as the Eagles have struggled to develop a single receiver outside of DeVonta Smith. Who, let’s be real. Wasn’t turned into the player he is today from the help of Moorehead.

There’s still a long offseason to go with plenty of roster and coaching changes along the way. Who’s on your list for the Eagles next move?

Last year, the Philly Specials added Operation Snowball and bought and delivered gifts to nearly 200,000 students in the School District of Philadelphia.

The plushies depict Kelce, Mailata and Johnson each wearing a green Christmas sweater with his jersey number on the front and last name embroidered on the back. They are sold in sets of three for $49. The box set with vinyl and CD copies of all three holiday albums along with Christmas magnets is $99.

“Making music with my friends and donating to organizations committed to making the lives of Philadelphia families and students brighter during the holidays has been a highlight of the past three years,” Mailata said in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing the joy back again this year with proceeds from the new plushies and a few other surprises.”

The trio became an unlikely music sensation during recent holiday seasons, and music legends like Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi and Patti LaBelle have contributed to their Billboard-topping albums. They released their third and final album in November 2024.

On Thursday, the Philly Specials posted the first video of what will be a weekly Instagram series that reflects on their journey to musical stardom. It all began with a locker room conversation between Kelce and another former Eagles player, Connor Barwin, now the team’s head of football development and strategy, they say.

“We were just hoping to raise some money,” Kelce says in the video. “We had no idea what the expectation was. We just wanted to have fun.”

  • For Those Who Have Our Number; We Salute You? – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

Strange, isn’t it? If there is a book out there on the Philadelphia Eagles like the one that AJ Brown has been reading on the sideline — maybe the Rams can should borrow a copy? But Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers seem to have some sacred documents on how to stymie the Eagles stored in the deep annals below Raymond James Stadium.

Many times that the Eagles have had a pivotal game against the Buccaneers — Tampa always seems to come out on top. Sure — the Eagles were dominant against Tony Dungy’s Buccaneers in the NFC Wildcard Round in the first couple years of Andy Reid’s tenure that the Eagles were in the playoffs.

Photo Courtesy of Eagles Nation on X.

But In 1979 — when Dick Vermeil’s Eagles were ascending for the first time in decades — the Buccaneers — who had combined for a 7–37 record in 3 seasons prior — defeated the Eagles in the Divisional Playoffs 24–17. Then in 2003 — Ronde Barber’s gut wrenching interception to close Veterans Stadium. The following September at the first game of the Linc — was another loss 17–0 to Tampa Bay. Fast forward to Jalen Hurt’s first playoff game loss 31–15 at Raymond James Stadium in 2022 and two years later a 32–9 loss in the 2024 NFC Wildcard Round that left us with the image of Jason Kelce’s unbridled outpouring of emotion captured by the national media.

But there is a silver lining when it comes to some of our painful history of Tampa Bay. Really.

Consider this. One year after the Eagles disappointing loss in Tampa in 1979 — they won the NFC and advanced to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. Two years after Jon Gruden’s Bucs denied the Eagles a Super Bowl appearance — Philadelphia went back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1980.

One year after Tom Brady and the Buccaneers ended the Eagles season in South Florida — Nick Sirianni’s Eagles were also in the Super Bowl. One year after the Eagles lost in the NFC Playoffs again to Tampa Bay in 2024 and just six months after another regular season 31–16 blowout loss at Raymond James Stadium — the Eagles completed the most magical post-season run in team history — winning Super Bowl LIX. After that week 4 loss — the Eagles went 12–1 for the rest of the season.

Across the South Philadelphia sports’ Complex — the Phillies are preparing to dazzle us with another Red October — perhaps ending with the exhilaration of a World Series victory like the defeat of Tampa in 2008 in South Philadelphia. Perhaps — it will be the Eagles who have a surprise ending on Sunday in the South Florida heat. If history is any judge — win or lose — the sky is the limit for these Eagles — either way.

  • Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Release Party Is a Lucrative Ode to Her Secret Sessions

    [ad_1]

Last week, Taylor Swift announced that her filmmaking era shall continue with The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. Her last theatrical venture, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film (2023) earned more than $260 million at the box office, reviving movie theaters in a post-strike slump. Before that, Swift directed the Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (2020) special for Disney+; was the subject of the Netflix documentary Miss Americana (2020); and also released the Reputation concert film in 2018. The corresponding Showgirl movie looks to be another feather in Swift’s bejeweled cap: It grossed $15 million in the first 24 hours of ticket presales and is expected to earn $30M-$50M opening weekend. According to Swift, the theatrical event will feature a brand new music video, lyric videos, and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, plus her commentary on every track of her new album.

This splashy experience is reminiscent of when Swift willingly invited hordes of her most devoted fans into her actual home for the first taste of new music—although now on a global scale. In 2014, the 1989secret sessions” had baked goods made by Swift herself and later, in 2017, one of the Reputation listening events featured an appearance from official normie best friend Abigail Anderson of “Fifteen” fame. But what will the theatrically released Showgirl film have to offer?

Swift’s new music—and any movie about it—is expected to delve into her headline-making romance with Travis Kelce, as well as what it meant to reclaim ownership of her masters. Ahead, everything we know about The Official Release Party of a Showgirl—including where to watch and how to get tickets.

What Is The Official Release Party of a Showgirl?

“I hereby invite you to a *dazzling* soirée,” Swift announced via social media on Friday, September 19, sharing that The Official Release Party of a Showgirl would play in theaters from October 3 (the day of her new album’s release) through October 5. “You’ll get to see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for my new single ‘The Fate of Ophelia,’ along with never before seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl,” she wrote alongside imagery from the record.

The Official Release Party of a Showgirl coincides with the debut of her recently announced 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Swift previously joined her now fiancée and his brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast on August 13 to reveal the cover, tracklist, and producers for the project, before later sharing the official release date at, of course, 12:12 p.m. ET.

When and where can I watch The Official Release Party of a Showgirl?

Surprise, surprise: When your billion-dollar global tour generates the highest-grossing concert movie of all time, most major theater chains want to do business with you. Screenings for the Showgirl experience are happening across the country, including all 540 AMC Theatres, Cinemark and Regal cinemas. Fans can search for available tickets nearest them now at releasepartyofashowgirl.com. AMC has cautioned that no trailers or ads will be shown before the event, meaning all masquerade revelers should plan to arrive early or on time.

Tickets for the event in other countries—Canada, Mexico, the UK, France, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand among them—will go on sale September 23. Release parties for additional countries will be announced on or around October 3.

How much are tickets to The Official Release Party of a Showgirl?

A staunch supporter of clever numerology, Swift is charging $12 (before online booking fees) for the theatrical event celebrating her 12-track 12th album. Screenings for the 89-minute experience will start simultaneously across time zones at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT on October 3.

How about the dance and dress code?

While busting out into spontaneous choreography is generally frowned upon (sorry to anyone who sat near me on the opening day of 2007’s Hairspray), the theater chains are making an exception for Swifties. Perhaps because Swift herself told fans that “Dancing is optional but very much encouraged.”

Jason Kelce seemingly smashes man’s phone after use of homophobic slur at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. — Retired Eagles star Jason Kelce seemingly got into a heated altercation with a man at Penn State’s football game on Saturday.

Video circulating on social media reportedly shows Kelce slamming the person’s phone on the ground after the person allegedly called Travis Kelce a homophobic slur.

It is unclear if the phone’s owner is a student, but in the video, the man was seen wearing a Penn State sweatshirt.

Kelce was on campus for an appearance on ESPN’s College Gameday ahead of the Nittany Lions game against Ohio State.

Jason Kelce Checks Fan For Insulting His Brother

Jason Kelce is blowing up on social media after he got into a lil’ confrontation with a football fan. Footage of the incident circulated on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Nov. 2, capturing a heckler referring to his brother, Travis Kelce by a homophobic slur. The retired athlete was walking outside of Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania, during the Penn-State-Ohio State game, according to PEOPLE.

The clip kicks off with fans running alongside Jason and appearing star struck. One fan could be heard asking for a fist bump, while another shouts at him, “Hey Kelce, how does it feel that your brother’s a f****t dating Taylor Swift?”

Jason wasn’t feeling the troll’s rude comment. He quickly turned around, snatched the guy’s phone and smashed it on the ground. Additional footage captured the ESPN analyst slamming the phone against concrete before picking it back up and walking away. Later, another clip sees Jason stepping in front of the guy and clapping back with, “Who’s the f****t now?” before stepping off aggressively again.

Jason hasn’t responded to the footage or his reaction as of yet.

    Social Media Reacts

Social media users on X a.k.a Twitter quickly reacted to the video of Jason Kelce, and many commenters gave him props for checking the troll and standing ten toes down behind his brother and Taylor Swift.

Jason Kelce Just Shattered a Fan’s Phone Over Their Comment About Travis & Taylor

    [ad_1]

Note to bullies… maybe don’t come for Travis Kelce when his 6’3″, 295-pound brother is standing right there. That’s a lesson one Penn State student learned the hard way this weekend when Jason Kelce took matters (and the student’s phone) into his own hands after hearing an offensive comment about Travis and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

The incident occurred at Penn State University, where Jason was visiting for the Ohio State-Penn State game. What started as a friendly interaction with fans quickly turned sour when someone in the crowd hurled a homophobic slur at Travis over his relationship with Taylor, yelling, “how does it feel that your brother is a f***** for dating Taylor Swift?”

Video footage circulating on social media shows Jason turning to face the heckler before grabbing their phone and throwing it to the ground. In a follow-up clip, there appears to be a brief scuffle as the phone’s owner demanded it back, with Jason reportedly responding, “Who’s the f***** now?”

Representatives for both Jason and ESPN, where he works as a commentator, have not yet commented on the incident. However, social media has largely rallied behind Jason’s protective response, with many fans applauding him for standing up for his brother.

“I love this. Jason Kelce just took a stand for normal men against the “idiots who have become way too comfortable saying ridiculous shit to people who can actually kick their ass” crowd,” one social media user wrote on X. “Good for him.” Another added, “This is exactly how trolls should be handled in real life. Kudos to Jason Kelce.”

While some might question Jason’s reaction, it’s worth noting that the Kelce brothers have consistently shown nothing but public support for each other. Jason, along with his wife Kylie and their daughters, has embraced Taylor as part of their family, even attending her Eras Tour show in New Orleans in October 2024.

Despite the negativity from some corners, the Kelce-Swift connection has given us plenty of heartwarming moments, from Taylor cheering at Chiefs games to Travis’s surprise appearance during her Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium. And now we can add “Jason Kelce defending his brother’s happiness” to that list.

One thing’s for certain: you don’t want to mess with the Kelce family—especially when Jason’s around.

For Sidney and Chase, the Battle Against Each Other Pales to the Battle On Their Respective Teams.

In February of 2023 — when the Eagles reached the pinnacle of sports’ championship games with a berth in Super Bowl LVII — the matchup didn’t just feature a battle between Andy Reid and Nick Sirianni. It featured two future Hall of Famers both with the last name of Kelce.

For Travis and Jason — this game wasn’t simply of matchup of family — it was the peak of two professional careers that saw one of the finest centers in NFL history on opposing sidelines with one of it’s top All-Pro tight ends. Ms. Kelce, who was instrumental in bringing two NFL Pro Bowlers into the world — attended the game sporting merchandise for both the Eagles and the Chiefs.

    Nation on X.

On Sunday afternoon when the Eagles and Bengals face off in Cincinnati — two other brothers will be doing battle. For the Eagles Sidney Brown, it will a moment that he has been waiting for in duration for almost a year. Last year — in a December game against the Cardinals — Brown read a Kyler Murray mis-fire and patiently waited for the interception — already planning his next move as he quickly turned upfield and followed blockers 99 yards to put the Eagles up 14–3 on New Year’s Eve. One week later in week 18 of his rookie season against the Giants — he would tear his ACL and would be done for the season.

Last week — Sidney Brown re-joined the Eagles in the Metlife Stadium- the same location where he was injured last year. For Brown — drafted in 2023 by the Eagles — he rejoins a young Eagles secondary that is securing itself for years to come in preparation of NFC East dominance. His return is over-shadowed only by the Eagles top two rookie selections in 2024 that are now the focal point of an Eagles secondary ready to do battle with top-tier NFL receiver talent like Ja’Marr Chase, Malik Nabers, CeeDee Lamb, and Terry McLaurin.

In the 2023 NFL Draft — the same one that saw his brother taken by the Philadelphia Eagles — brought running back Chase Brown to the Cincinnati Bengals. For Chase — a rookie season where he racked up 335 yards over twelve games saw him trying to fit in amongst a running back room headlined by All-Pro Joe Mixon. In 2024, he is battling to save a 2–4 Bengals team and to take top-billing in a position battle with Zach Moss in his own running back room.

Sunday’s matchup of two Brown brothers will be less about the competition between each other and more about the competition within themselves to solidify a long-term future on two Super Bowl rosters for two teams trying to find that conference championship stature yet again.

“At the end of the day it’s the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles,” said Sidney Brown. “That’s my guy, someone I talk to like every single day.”

For Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow In 2024 — the Best Football Is About to Be Played.

During the Covid-restricted 2020 NFL Draft — it was Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow who would become the first selection. As a sophomore at LSU — Burrow didn’t just break FBS records- he shattered them throwing sixty touchdowns in a season that captured not only the Heisman Trophy but also the National Championship.

In the opening week in 2020 — Burrow was the only one of the rookie quarterbacks to start before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Washington. Much like Jalen Hurts — Burrow’s second season was magical. The Bengals roared into the AFC Playoffs and defeated the Raiders 26–19, the Titans 19–16, and the Chiefs in Overtime stunning Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Championship Game by a score 23–20 before falling to the Rams in Super Bowl LVI 23–20 — Cincinnati’s first appearance since 1988.

    PHOTO: Philadelphia Eagles

And like the Eagles- the Bengals have been trying to get back to the Super ever since. In 2022, they would lose a rematch in the AFC Championship Game to those Chiefs. In 2023 — Cincinnati wouldn’t even qualify for the playoffs with a 10–8 record. So far in 2024 — the Bengals are 3–4 and clutching to the hope of a narrowing window that they can still make the AFC Playoffs with some Burrow and Ja’marr Chase late-season magic.

In perhaps one of the most quarterback-rich NFL Drafts since 1983 that included Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Tua Tagovailoa — Jalen Hurts was selected by the Eagles in the second round with the 53rd pick. Jalen’s path to become the franchise quarterback was quite different from Burrow’s. He had to supplant Carson Wentz — who had just signed a four-year $128 million extension a year earlier. But on a cold 2020 evening in Green Bay — when Wentz headed to the bench and Hurts headed to be the future of the Eagles — the era of Jalen began.

Two years later — the high-powered Eagles offense was also in the Super Bowl. Even now in 2024 — the Eagles are striving to overcome that loss to the Kansas City Chiefs 38–35. The team that Kansas City beat to earn a trip to Super Bowl LVI and a matchup against the Eagles was Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals.

What is at stake this Sunday in Cincinnati isn’t just a week eight NFL matchup. For Burrow and the Chiefs — it’s a must-win home matchup. Five losses this early in the NFL season don’t bode well for a crowded AFC Playoff field. For Hurts, Barkley — it’s another matchup to prove that the Eagles offense is once again prolific with the return of Devonta Smith and Brown coupled with an Eagles defense that once again matches rookie talent against one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and a young secondary featuring Quinyon Mitchell desperately waiting for that first professional pick.

The answer to the question about whether Hurts or Burrow were the better pick themselves is not yet clear.

15 Minutes That Changed the World (Or at Least Philadelphia) – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

The Moment in Time When Nick Sirianni’s Eagles Were Changed Forever.

Shortly after you absorb that euphoric feeling of your team winning a Super Bowl — you immediately want to feel it again.

Not fifteen minutes after Tom Brady’s final Hail Mary Pass in Super Bowl LII fell short in the end zone — the priority shifted from celebration to preservation.

What would it take for the Eagles to return to claim another Lombardi Trophy?

The wait for another shot at NFL immortality wasn’t as quick as initially wished for, but it wasn’t as long as it could have been.

With the departure of Doug Pederson and ushering out of former quarterback Carson Wentz — whose own ego had prevented him from reaching greatness in Philadelphia— the Eagles were focused on a re-tooling.

Just two years after the Eagles hired 39-year-old coach Nick Sirianni and committed to 23-year-old quarterback Jalen Hurts — the Eagles whose seemed like its bold offense could never be stopped from scoring — were back in the Super Bowl once again.

When the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII and powered their way to a 24–14 lead through two quarters — it looked as though not even a short halftime to regroup could save Andy Reid’s Chiefs and a hobbled Patrick Mahomes.

During that fifteen-minute window — with Rhianna crescendoing her greatest hits on a stage at the 50-yard line — something happened to the Eagles. Perhaps it was arrogance, overconfidence, or inexperience. Perhaps it was a feeling that they were better than the game itself. Perhaps it was a combination of all of these.

What happened during the next 30 minutes was that a Head Coach—once skewered in Philadelphia for nearly fourteen years for not being able to make in-game adjustments—flipped the script on the Eagles. He gave his injured quarterback quick throws, attacked the Eagles’ defense in different ways, and contained Philly’s devastating offensive attack.

The team that wins the second half wins the game. That is exactly what happened.

Nick Sirianni’s Eagles never recovered from that moment. Even when the Eagles were eking out wins at 10–1 last season, something didn’t look right. When they went 1–6 the rest of the way, something certainly didn’t.

Many people didn’t want Nick Sirianni back this season. But making a convincing argument to stay — he did. At an early bye week, the Eagles are 2–2. They return from Tampa after yet another shellacking to a team that doesn’t have a talent level equal to Philadelphia.

Since 2016, the Eagles have spent too much time purging themselves of coaches and players who utilize arrogance as a defining quality. The last coach and franchise quarterback to try to plow forward, driven by this sense, left the Eagles in an eventual rebuild.

For the Eagles to return to the euphoric feeling of the NFC Championship Game win against the 49ers in 2023, it will take an adjustment of this team back to good fundamental football and a new approach for one of the NFL’s most dynamic offenses.

Showdown At the Superdome: A History of the Eagles and Saints – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

The Eagles of the Late 80s and Early 90s Had Done Amazing Things On the Field.
Winning a Playoff Game Hadn’t Been One of Them.

For today’s Eagles faithful, it’s hard to envision a time when the Birds couldn’t maintain a top-10 NFL offense and hadn’t won a playoff game in over a decade. But that will be the long-standing legacy of Buddy Ryan and Rich Kotite in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, record-setting defense and quarterback complete with acrobatic excellence does nothing if you don’t win. And if you call your boss “the guy in France,” you’d better win.

Nearly 30 years ago, in Rich Kotite’s second season as Head Coach, the Eagles were in a wildcard game in New Orleans down on the Bayou. In 1988, the Eagles lost the Fog Bowl at Soldier Field in Chicago — a place that an NFL team from Philly hadn’t won since the Frankford Yellow Jackets beat the Bears in the final game of 1931. In 1989, the Eagles lost to Steve Everett and the LA Rams at home, and 1990 Body Bag Game #2 went to Washington.

    PHOTO: WikiCommons

With an 11–5 record, the Eagles were in the playoffs once again. The beginning of this one seemed to unfold just as in previous contests. Down 20–7 in the third quarter, Randall Cunningham connected with Fred Barnett on a 35-yard touchdown pass. A six-yard Heath Sherman rushing touchdown gave the Eagles the lead. That proceeded a Reggie White safety in the end zone on Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert.

Finally, an Eric Allen 18-yard interception return for a touchdown sealed the deal.

The win would prove to be Kotite’s only one as Eagles Head Coach. The 1992 team would be Reggie White’s last as Eagles.
The following week, the Eagles would be throttled by the eventual Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys, 34–10.  But even that couldn’t diminish the comeback at the Superdome.

Kelces cash in: Travis and Jason Kelce take popular ‘New Heights’ podcast to Amazon’s Wondery

    [ad_1]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, are taking their popular “New Heights” podcast to Amazon’s Wondery under a three-year deal that gives the company exclusive advertising sales and distribution rights.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately available, though some reports put the total at nine figures.

The deal, announced by Wondery on Tuesday, will begin with this week’s episode, which drops Wednesday. It includes the back catalog of podcast content along with exclusive rights to monetize and distribute audio and video episodes.

“We couldn’t be more excited to team up with Wondery for the next phase of ‘New Heights,’” the Kelce brothers said in a statement. “We love this show and the fanbase that has grown with us over the last two seasons. Wondery understands the shared vision and will offer a wealth of experience and resources to take us to ‘New Heights!’”

The personable Kelce brothers launched their podcast two years ago. It initially was designed to peel back the cover on the world of professional football players, but has since expanded to touch other corners of the pop culture universe.

The weekly series was chosen podcast of the year at the 2024 iHeartPodcast Awards.

“‘New Heights’ on the surface is a sports podcast, and sports is such a well-listened-to category,” Wondery chief executive Jen Sargent said, “but it’s become a cultural phenomenon. They’re in that cultural zeitgeist.”

Travis Kelce’s celebrity status reached another level early last season, when the tight end of the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs began dating pop superstar Taylor Swift. He has several crossover projects in the works, including a 20-episode game show for Amazon Prime Video called “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”

Jason Kelce recently retired after a 13-year career spent entirely with the Eagles. But his popularity also has been on the rise; he was frequently seen attending the Paris Olympics and will appear on “Monday Night Countdown” on ESPN.

Travis Kelce Reportedly ‘Found The Ring’ To Propose To Taylor Swift After Worldwide Search – And We Have Details! – Perez Hilton

    [ad_1]

OK, yes, we’ve heard Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were secretly engaged several times before. But never with this much detail…

It’s unclear whether he’s actually popped the question yet or not — more on that in a moment. But a new report has deets that seem to show even if it hasn’t happened quite yet, it’s any day now.

A source close to Trav’s entourage spilled to The US Sun on Wednesday that the Kansas City Chiefs star had been spending some of his time touring the world — mostly following around Tay on The Eras Tour — looking for the perfect engagement ring! And he’s found it! The source said:

“It probably took more than 40 shop visits and 100 Zoom calls and meetings with jewelry experts.”

He apparently has been at this for months, since the end of 2023! He reportedly saw rings in New York, Los Angeles, England, France, and Italy — inneresting since some believe he proposed to Tay during their romantic Lake Como getaway!

Related: Did Taylor React To Kanye West Name-Dropping Her & Travis In New Song??

Whoa! Sounds like he’s working on this with the same intensity with which he trains for the NFL season! Well, it makes sense… Proposing to Taylor would kind of be the Super Bowl of dating, right? But while it was a mighty effort, it wasn’t exactly hard work — because, as the insider explains, the athlete was “so excited about” the search that it was fun!

It’s clearly important to Trav to get the ring just right. The source says he “wants the best for his lady” to “show how much he loves” her. So he got advice from close friends of his AND of hers on exactly what to pick. And all the extra care was “worth” it! Because he got it just right! The friend says:

“He finally found the ring he is sure she will love.”

Apparently Trav ultimately found the ring at Place Vendôme in Paris. The insider says he picked out the band as well as “the finest diamonds and pieces to build it.” So it sounds like it’ll be a custom piece — we’d expect no less for a unicorn like Tay. The ring, says the insider is worth a whopping $250,000!

Nice! It sounds like instead of one big diamond, it’ll be a more intricate design. Man, we can’t wait to see it!

The insider also noted how the ring was far from the only thing Trav bought as he took the time to learn Tay’s taste. He also spent $59k on clothes for her from German designer Jil Sander! Awww! The insider says:

“He knows her tastes so well now. She will have plenty to choose from when she watches him play in the NFL this fall.”

He’s apparently has been showering her with gifts because he can’t be there with her as he’s back in training — but never stops thinking about her:

“Travis misses Taylor a lot, and he knows that she is getting onto the last few weeks of the Eras tour in Europe.”

    Awww!

Do YOU think Trav got the right ring??

Training Camp, Hall Of Fame and 2024 Preseason: The NFL Is Back! – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

Today marks the first day of the NFL season with an actual game being played.
I was lucky enough to share that day with the Eagle’s open practice.

    Hall Of Fame Game

The Eagles might not have had any relations to this year’s Hall of Fame class, including Steve McMichael and Devin Hester, giving the Bears their second appearance at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in the last six years. But they might soon, with some Eagles greats who have recently retired, like Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce.

Perhaps the Eagles will end their 18-year absence one day, with 17 nominees in the 2024 class. Or once either of these recently retired players hits eligibility five years from now.

And for those who think 62 or 91 might not make the hall one day, here’s a glimpse at their resumes.

    • Fletcher Cox: 6x Pro Bowl / 1x All-Pro / HOF All-2010’s Team / Super Bowl 52 Champ
    • Jason Kelce: 7x Pro Bowl / 6x All-Pro / Eagles-Record 145 Consecutive Starts / Super Bowl 52 Champ

    Open Practice!

On the other side of Thursday was the Eagles open practice, and if you’ve been as impatient as I have for football season, then today was a pretty good day.

Nearly 50,000 fans showed up at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, and almost 75% of the Linc was filled for practice.

And the offense didn’t disappoint, with Hurts posting the following stat line to end the day.

We’re only five weeks out from the Eagles opening the season against the Packers in Brazil.

And while they still have plenty to make up for last season’s disastrous end, we still have preseason games to get through before we get there.

    Preseason

The Eagles will have three preseason games in the coming weeks:

    • @ Baltimore Ravens
    • @ New England Patriots
    • @Minnesota Vikings

For once, the Eagles won’t host the Vikings in the regular season to start their year; instead, it’ll come one week earlier in their final preseason match.

Regardless if the Eagles starters see any real action in the coming weeks, there are plenty of names to look out for, but they might not even see much of the playing field this season.

    Jalyx Hunt

After cutting Barnett late last season, the Eagles’ defensive line depth weakened. After acquiring Huff and moving on from Reddick, they would need more insurance in the defensive end position. Enter the Eagles’ third-round pick.

If Vic Fangio is committed to playing those who deserve playing time, we may see more rookies play than we have in the past. While that opens the door for the rookies, it could also limit some of the other playmakers on the roster.

    Isaiah Rodgers

The Eagles had Rodgers tucked away on the suspended list for most of last season, and now that the year is beginning, we’re finding out the Eagles have a massive logjam in the secondary.

Multiple rookies, Mitchell and DeJean(injured), as well as plenty of other sophomores and veterans, are vying for a roster spot.

However, Rodgers is getting reps with the first team, so there are even more questions about who might play in the preseason.

If Rodgers is penciled in as a starter, we won’t see much from a player who hasn’t seen playing time in almost 18 months.

We’ll find out next week which Eagles will get to suit up for their first preseason game, less than a week away.
    Football is back!

  • Who is Ilona Maher? Here’s what to know about the US women’s rugby sevens Olympian and TikTok star

Who is Ilona Maher? Here’s what to know about the US women’s rugby sevens Olympian and TikTok star

    [ad_1]

SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — Rugby sevens star Ilona Maher has been a huge hit on social media as the U.S. women’s team has progressed to the semifinals at the Paris Olympics.

She’s been busy making funny TikTok and Instagram reels and also empowering posts about women and sports. She’s also producing some big hits on opponents at Stade de France as a regular starter for the U.S. women’s rugby sevens team.

Her video recruiting recently retired NFL center Jason Kelce as a super fan for the No. 4-ranked U.S. team after their first two games on Monday magnified the attention.

The 27-year-old Maher isn’t new to this. Her hilarious takes on village life in the pandemic-era Tokyo Olympics three years ago made her one of the breakout stars of those Games.

How did Maher become famous on TikTok?

Spectators were barred from Olympic venues in Tokyo, and there’s always strict rules anyway about who is allowed into the athletes’ village. Those weren’t barriers for Maher. With fans locked out under harsh social-distancing rules, her social media followers got a humorous inside look at the Games — starting with the bedding.

Maher and her rugby sevens teammates tested out the cardboard beds in a TikTok video that gained millions of views, showing them performing CPR on the bed, doing yoga and even throwing a mock tantrum.

What is Maher doing during the Paris Olympics?

Another Olympic village, more cardboard beds.

“Hey everyone, we’re back testing out the cardboard beds. My bed is going to break, yes, but I’m going to do it anyway,” Maher says by way of introduction to the video that showed her and some of her teammates wrestling on the beds, doing gymnastics moves and Irish jigs, among other things. Nothing to lose sleep over.

Her U.S. teammates, including Nicole Heavirland, Naya Tapper and Sammy Sullivan, often make it into Maher’s posts. Then there’s the people she runs across at the Olympics — like Snoop Dogg (“He’s an insanely cool dude”) and U.S. tennis star Coco Gauff (the topic turned to pickleball). To the guy who asked if she was an Olympian and then wrongly guessed which sport: “All 5’10” of me, 200 pounds — a gymnast. Wrong!”

    What is #beastbeautybrains?

Maher uses a #beastbeautybrains hashtag with the aim of spreading body image positivity and bringing more attention to rugby and women’s sports in general.

From the U.S.-branded bikini, to the rugby uniform to the stylish formal Ralph Lauren clothes, Maher wears them all with pride and seemingly equal comfort in a vast range of photos and reels of her Olympic wardrobe.

She’s strong — her stiff-arm shoving away attempted tackles against Japan and France were plenty evidence of that.

She’s fast — running almost the length of the field to score against Japan showed that.

She’s smart — as well as gaining a nursing degree, following in the footsteps of her mom, she worked to graduate from rugby enthusiast to professional athlete. Next step is to make its pay better.

She summed it up in a quick post to her million-plus Instagram followers before the opening ceremony on Friday.

“As the Olympics officially start, I want you all to take a look at all the different body types on display. All body types matter. All body types are worthy from the smallest gymnast to the tallest volleyball player, from a rugby player to a shot-putter and a sprinter. All bodies are beautiful and can do amazing things. So truly see yourself in these athletes and know you can do it, too.”

How is the US women’s rugby sevens team doing in Paris?

The U.S. advanced to a semifinal match against defending champion New Zealand with a 17-7 quarterfinal win over Britain, avenging a loss to the British at the same stage in Tokyo three years ago.

Maher played an instrumental role in the first try, using her big fend to brush off one tackler, draw in a defender and then release Tapper into the clear on the left wing to score.

She made another barging, long-range run just before halftime to ensure the U.S. kept momentum.

Sammy Sullivan and Kristi Kirshe scored second-half tries to seal the win.

  • Could The Eagles Add To The Defensive Line? – Philadelphia Sports Nation

Could The Eagles Add To The Defensive Line? – Philadelphia Sports Nation

    [ad_1]

The problem between the 2022 and 2023 Eagles defense. (Other than not being able to get a single stop most games). Was the change in production from the defensive line.

From having four 10+ Sack players. (Reddick, Sweat, Hargrave & Graham)

To only a single 10+ Sack player. (Reddick)

The 2022 Eagles might’ve fallen short of the Bears 72 Sack record in 2022. But they were nowhere close to repeating that total, only recording 43 sacks last year. Ranking 20th league wide.

There’s plenty of reasons as to what might have fully derailed the Eagles season. Giving up an average of 30.3 points in the final 6 games of the season, including a 32 point defeat to the Buccaneers in the Wildcard round. Somehow, the team that gave up the least passing yards in 2022, with an average of 171.6 yard against per game. Became the team that gave up the 3rd most, with 255.7 passing yards against in 2023.

    Overuse Down The Stretch

The Eagles defensive line finished the season injured and not as deep as it started. After playing multiple overtime games, the Eagles were never the same following the win against Buffalo. Where the Defense played 95 Snaps, and what seemed like the point of no return for the season.

Below is the DL and its share of snap counts across the season

Player Total Snaps Snap % Snaps Played Vs Buffalo
    Haason Reddick 862 74.18% 83
    Josh Sweat 828 71.26% 81
    Fletcher Cox 684 58.86% 22
    Jalen Carter 563 48.45% 76
    Jordan Davis 519 44.66% 62
Milton Williams 494 42.51% Missed Game
    Brandon Graham 395 33.99% 26
    Nolan Smith 188 16.18% 11
    Marlon Tuipulotu 162 13.94% 32
    Derek Barnett 99 8.52% Cut/Signed with HOU
Kentavius Street 87 7.49% Traded To ATL
Moro Ojomo 68 5.85% Missed Game

Had the Eagles not over-relied on their starters and played more of their depth. Perhaps the major burnout at the end of the year would have saved them from not being able to get off the field. Add on the fact they traded away Street and Cut Barnett at the trade deadline. The Eagles defense was without 2 more players to pick up the snaps.

    This Years Additions

Much like the last few seasons, the Eagles have successfully drafted players before their predecessor’s had retired. From Kelce to Jurgens. Cox to Davis/Carter.

Now that the Eagles have gone and made acquisitions throughout the offseason. They’ve been able to add Bryce Huff, Jalyx Hunt and Julian Okwara to the OLB position. With the expectation Nolan Smith will also see a larger role in his 2nd season, similar to his fellow Bulldog teammates.

But with countless DBs and only so many roster spots available. It feels like the Eagles further additions could come along the defensive line. (When haven’t they). Additions such as Genard Avery, Ndamukong Suh, Robert Quinn, Linval Joseph have all been acquired throughout the last few seasons.

You can’t always prevent injuries, and if defense wins championships. Then depth could be necessary down the stretch. Could a name like Chase Young come up in a few months if the Saints finally blow it up? Or perhaps the Eagles go big game hunting and see if the Chargers are committed to a rebuild, and are interested in shopping Khalil Mack?

There’s still a long way to go till the Week 9 Trade Deadline. But Eagles training camp begins next week, and then we’ll finally get our first taste of the Eagles season to come that is just around the corner.
