From a major Oscar winner to one of this year’s biggest awards snubs, this week is filled with some recent quality content. Plus, a fun new spin-off of The Good Wife, FX’s newest blockbuster series, and some animated fun are all premiering.

    What to watch on Netflix

    Everything Everywhere All at Once

With the Oscars now less than a month away, why not refresh your awards season memory by watching last year’s undeniable winner? Everything Everywhere All at Once all but swept the season, taking home seven Oscars (including Best Picture). In this genre-bending exercise in action and absurdism, Michelle Yeoh stars as Evelyn, a middle-aged Chinese immigrant who’s struggling to hold her life together: her business is getting audited by the IRS (represented by Jamie Lee Curtis), her husband (Ke Huy Quan) feels like their marriage is a mess, and her daughter (Stephanie Hsu) is tired of her mom not accepting her. Everything Everywhere All at Once streams Friday, February 23rd. Read Observer’s review.

    The Tourist

A British export recently picked up by Netflix, The Tourist is a thrilling ride. Jamie Dornan stars as a man who, in Season 1, woke up alone and amnesiac in the Australian Outback. With a bevy of people out to get him, he had to act fast to try to piece together his true identity. Now, in Season 2, Dornan’s Elliot has an idea of who he is, and it’s not pretty. He ventures back to his native Ireland with Constable Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald), where plenty of surprises await. Season 2 of The Tourist premieres Thursday, February 29th.

    What to watch on Hulu

    All of Us Strangers

A moving, heartbreaking, devastatingly relatable drama, All of Us Strangers takes a fantastical conceit and makes it into one of last year’s most human films. Andrew Scott stars as a lonely writer, dealing with unresolved guilt from his parents’ sudden passing several decades ago. But after a chance encounter with one of his apartment block’s few other residents (Paul Mescal), he ventures to his childhood home and finds his parents, exactly as they were all those years earlier. It’s a difficult needle to thread, but writer-director Andrew Haigh does it with a deep sense of sympathy. All of Us Strangers premiered Thursday, February 22nd. Read Observer’s review.

    Shōgun

Based on the novel of the same name, Shōgun is a new historical epic on FX. The series take place in feudal Japan, where three people’s paths intertwine. First, there’s the shipwrecked English sailor, John Blackstone (Cosmo Jarvis); second, there’s Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), who’s contending with his keen political rivals; lastly, there’s the Lady Moriko (Anna Sawai), whose necessary skills belie her mysterious past. It’s a sprawling drama filled with political intrigue, richly realized medieval battles, and fascinating characters, all coming together to make a spectacle of a show. Shōgun will be available to stream Tuesday, February 27th.

What to watch on Amazon Prime

The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy

Following Hazbin Hotel, Amazon is looking to further bulk up its adult animated slate with The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy. The series follows Dr. Sleech (Stephanie Hsu) and Dr. Klak (Keke Palmer), a pair of brilliant besties with expertise in all sorts of intergalactic injuries and illnesses. But when a new patient presents a new possibility to cure a universal ill, they decide to take the opportunity—even if they may lose their lives (or their licenses) in the process. The rest of the talented voice cast includes Kieran Culkin, Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, and Sam Smith. The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy premieres Friday, February 23rd.

    The Green Knight

An Arthurian legend stunningly brought to life by filmmaker David Lowery, A24’s The Green Knight stars Dev Patel as Gawain. Taking cues from the 14th century poem, the film follows Gawain as he strikes down the mystical Green Knight for glory—in exchange for an equal blow bestowed by the knight the following year. It’s a medieval fantasy movie that feels decidedly out of place in the ‘20s, but that’s a good thing. The supporting cast of Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, and Sarita Choudhury help instill things with dread and mystery in equal measure, and Patel makes for quite the convincing knight. The Green Knight streams until Thursday, February 29th. Read Observer’s review.

    What to watch on Paramount+

    Elsbeth

The Good Wife has already spawned a successful spin-off in The Good Fight, and now Elsbeth is ready to join the proceedings. Carrie Preston returns as fan-favorite Elsbeth Tascioni, the brilliant but unusual attorney. This new series sees her uprooting her successful Chicago career and bringing her unique talents to New York, where she works with NYPD Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) and Officer Blanke (Carra Patterson) to solve a litany of legal cases. For a character that’s existed in the background of shows for over a decade, it’s sure to be an interesting adventure for Elsbeth. Elsbeth will be available to stream starting Thursday, February 29th.

What to Watch is a regular endorsement of movies and TV worth your streaming time.

The Tourist: All the places it was filmed as series 2 relocates from Australia to Ireland

    [ad_1]

The Tourist is back for series 2 – and viewers are desperate to know where the new season was filmed.

For those that didn’t catch the first series, it’s basically about Elliot (Jamie Dornan) who woke up in an Australian hospital without any memory of what had happened to him. The series then followed him as he attempted to rediscover his identity – all whilst being hunted.

Throw in explosions, fight scenes and a ton of drama, and as expected it was a hit with viewers. So much so that it is back for a brand-new series which premiered on Monday (January 1) and dropped in its entirety on iPlayer.

It’s fair to say the show has left viewers gripped, but also open-mouthed thanks to the stunning scenery and locations.

But where is the new series of The Tourist filmed? Keep reading to find out!

    Where is The Tourist filmed?

For the first series, the show was filmed in Australia. But for its new one – they switched things up and relocated to Ireland.

The Tourist is said to have been filmed at the Luggala Estate in County Wicklow – with filming kicking off in Dublin back in April 2023. What’s more, the Luggala Estate in County Wicklow is also where the hit period drama Vikings was filmed.

Back in June, Jamie and the rest of the cast were spotted filming in the Drumcondra area of north Dublin. Reports claim a street was transported back in time for filming.

What have the cast said about the locations?

Star Jamie had nothing but kind words to say about filming in Ireland. During a Q&A about the amazing locations they filmed in episode one, he said: “They were incredible. Where the cafe is, that’s a Vikings set.

“Everyone kept telling us, the drivers and everyone. I felt like they were a bit disappointed that we weren’t in Vikings… that was the impression.”

He added: “It was properly beautiful. You don’t have to go too far in Ireland to find a beautiful spot. Australia was such an iconic part and the Outback was a staple of the first series so you’re asking a lot to find something to have a backdrop as dramatic and play as a big part as the Outback did but… It was a different type of beauty.”

What is The Tourist series 2 about?

The new season follows Elliot as he continues his journey to find out who he really is, after suffering from amnesia after a car crash. Aussie cop Helen Chambers is by his side, as the pair head to Ireland to dig into his past.

This time, a mainly Irish cast stars in the six episodes, which sees Elliot and Helen become embroiled in a family feud. We’re told that the pair will be “confronted by friends and foes as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past”.

The Tourist season 2 launches on BBC One

Jamie Dornan’s hit thriller The Tourist has returned to BBC One for another series.

The last series followed Jamie’s character, Elliot, as he woke up in an Australian hospital without any memory of what had happened to him.

The series followed him as he attempted to rediscover his identity – all whilst being hunted.

The new season of the show returns to Elliot’s homeland of Ireland – as he continues to search for some insight into who he actually is.

Last night’s episode saw Elliot violently kidnapped – but it didn’t seem to impress some viewers…

Fans slam season 2 of The Tourist

Taking to Twitter, some viewers of The Tourist took the opportunity to slam the series opener.

If Jamie Dornan had actually read the script for #TheTourist 2 I’m certain he would have refused the part. It’s utter nonsense. It’s so embarrassing. Oh, Jamie what have you done? I made the first half of ep2 and gave up,” one fan grumbled.

#TheTourist time to switch off… why is so much TV drama so awful these days… seems to have followed pop music and much else besides… a descent into soulless nothingness,” another moaned.

“Jamie Doran is a fine actor but what the hell is he doing in that load of rubbish tonight?” a third wrote.

    Fans deliver their verdict

The complaints didn’t stop there though.

“This is just rubbish. Nobody knows who they are or whats going on. Just an excuse to make another series ” another wrote. “Not loving this series as much as the first yet. A bit too much going on…,” a fifth said.

“I switched off after 40 mins I was just so confused about 20 different stories. It was giving me a headache lol,” another tweeted.

However, the new series does have its fans. “So good to have back the utterly insane, stylishly violent black comedy that is The Tourist,” one fan tweeted.

#TheTourist Mad but I love it @BBCOne,” another wrote. “I absolutely loved this! Completely whacky and crazy but exactly my sort of thing! Made me laugh. Love love love dark humour,” a third gushed.

  • Jamie Dornan Reveals He Had a “Stalker-Type Situation” After ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Success

Jamie Dornan Reveals He Had a “Stalker-Type Situation” After ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Success

    [ad_1]

Jamie Dornan is opening up about how he handles pressure from fans and reveals a “scary” experience he had with a stalker.

After starring in the wildly popular Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, based on E.L. James’ novels, the actor found himself at the center of the fandom, including fan-created conspiracies about him and his co-star Dakota Johnson.

Dornan recently told The Independent that he “tried to put walls up around [the fans], to really try and not let that in.”

“I’m pretty good at just blocking any of the noise associated with whatever fandom is – not letting it affect me, or more importantly my family,” added The Tourist actor, who has three daughters with his wife Amelia Warner.

But Dornan revealed that he has also been in some frightening situations that have impacted his family.

“I had a situation… a stalker-type situation before Covid,” he recalled. “That was fucking scary. Someone turned up at my house when my kids were there. … The more I can block that out, the better it is for me and the family.”

Following the attention he got from the Fifty Shades of Grey films, Dornan now knows he prefers a balance when it comes to taking on high-profile projects, one where he can still have somewhat of a “normal life.”

“There’s never going to be anything like Fifty Shades again,” The Fall actor told the outlet. “It felt very much like its own thing, particularly because it focused in and around sex. But there are obviously other jobs that bring insane scrutiny, like superhero stuff, or fucking James Bond – any of that stuff. I’ve done pretty well to avoid that sort of shit so far.”

Dornan added, “I’m not saying I’d never do anything super high-profile again, or a big [intellectual property] with all eyes on it… I probably will. But I’m also really happy with where I’m at right now. I can live a pretty normal life for the most part. I can sit on the Tube and I’m fine. I’m an ambitious person, and I have a fire under me, but in the last 10 years or so, I’ve realized I don’t want big peaks all the time. That doesn’t interest me. I’m happy to keep ticking over as I am, then one day just disappear and play golf for the rest of my life.”

Jamie Dornan returns as Elliot in series 2 of The Tourist this Christmas, and he looks like a different man to the one we last saw at the end of series 1.

The BBC has released more images of the upcoming six-part series, and fans of the Northern Irish actor might be shocked to see him rocking a new look.

It’s less Christian Grey, and more Harry Potter’s Hagrid – look away now if you don’t like your men hirsute…

Actor Jamie Dornan returns as Elliot in The Tourist series 2

BBC One has revealed very little about the plot of The Tourist series 2 so far. But new pictures have teased what is ahead.

In newly-released images, 41-year-old actor Jamie Dornan can be seen with a brand new look. Part Hoxton-hipster, part old man, Jamie can be seen sporting a huge, bushy beard in the upcoming episode 1.

In first-look photos of the new instalment, we can see Jamie’s character Elliot meeting with policewoman Helen Chambers. Viewers will remember that the pair shared a kiss in the last series, shortly after she’s left her controlling husband.

The new images show a heavily bearded Elliot meeting with Helen. Helen (Danielle Macdonald) appears to be looking into Elliot’s eyes lovingly, as he holds her hands. Helen looks unchanged, although she is in casual clothes, and is carrying a backpack. And the scene is clearly not Australia anymore…

While Jamie’s full-on facial hair is more than likely a disguise rather than a fashion choice, further pictures show him shaving the beard off in episode 1.

What’s the plot of series 2?

At the end of The Tourist series 1, viewers learnt that Elliot had been a bad, bad man before his bout of amnesia. But, disgusted by his past life, he wanted to make amends.

Series 2 sees the return of Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald as Elliot and Helen. This time, the action is based in Ireland.

The second series includes several new characters as Elliot and Helen become embroiled in a family feud. Additionally, the BBC has teased that Elliot and Helen will be “confronted by friends and foes as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past”.

More preview images show Elliot with a wound on his head, running away from a car. Another photo shows him hiding behind a curtain, again looking like he’s been in the wars.

Jamie and Danielle are two of very few returning characters from series 1. The cast of series 2 welcomes newcomers Frances Magee as Frank, Diarmaid Murtagh as Donal, and Olwen Fouéré as Niamh.

  • Jamie Dornan says he knew ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movies would come with ‘baggage’ | CNN

Jamie Dornan says he knew ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movies would come with ‘baggage’ | CNN

    [ad_1]

    CNN
     —

Jamie Dornan knew what he was getting tangled up with when he took on the role of Christian Grey in the spicy “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise films – and we’re not talking about bedsheets.

During an appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast last week, Dornan admitted that his decision to star in the erotic thriller “wasn’t an instant yes” because he knew that he’d catch some heat from critics.

“I knew that it came with a lot of baggage,” Dornan said. “The reality was it was going to make a ton of money and fans were going to love it, and the critics were going to despise it because that’s exactly what happened with the books. And that’s what we were making.”

Dornan starred in 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” alongside Dakota Johnson and went on to appear in the two sequels, “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed.” The movie trilogy is based on the book series by author E.L. James, who released the original three books of the same name between 2011 and 2012.

Initially, the “Tourist” star lost out on the role to “Sons of Anarchy” actor Charlie Hunnam, which he said came with “a bit of relief because I was like, that guy’s going to get wrecked here.”

“And then suddenly there I was but with way less time to make a decision,” Dornan said. “I got cast five weeks before we started shooting. My wife was 35 weeks pregnant, we had a lot of massive decisions to make very quickly. It was a crazy time when I think about it.”

Despite the initial trepidation, Dornan ultimately embraced the fandom.

“We were staying very truthful to the books, so we knew what that was going to be, but I think movies that are made for the fans, that the fans love, can only be seen as a success,” he said.

The movies were certainly a success, even if the critics panned them.

When “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the first film in the franchise, premiered in 2015, it broke box office records during its three-day opening weekend when it grossed $81.6 million and became the biggest opening ever for a film released on the combined Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day weekend.

Alia Bhatt talks about working with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in the Heart of Stone

    [ad_1]

Alia Bhatt is currently all geared up for the release of her Hollywood debut spy thriller Heart of Stone. In the film, Alia will star alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.

With her first international role, Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt plays Keya Dhawan, a woman with unmatched intellect and fierce determination. Being a part of a film like this and breaking into the global market was an incredible opportunity for Alia.

Talking about working with Gal Gadot, Alia said, “For me, this was a super huge opportunity, my first Hollywood film. And having seen Gal’s exceptional work, I knew this project was something special. The idea of being part of a spy thriller with a female lead, a woman like Gal, was incredibly exciting. And I was even more thrilled when I got to know that Jamie would be joining the team too.”

She further stated, “Gal is such a loving person, and her energy is so warm. When I’m around her, I feel like I’ve known her for a very long time. It’s like we instantly clicked, and that comfort translated onto the screen,”

She also talked about Jamie Dornan and expressed, “Working with Jamie, I’ve basically shot almost every day with him now, and it’s easy. Jamie is super funny and very fun to work with on this film. We’re doing all these intense moments where the stakes are really high, but off camera we’re giggling, chatting, and the mood is extremely light. That contrast is really interesting, and he’s a fabulous actor as well, very subtle, but his eyes are extremely expressive. Working with him was really fun and easy.”

Helmed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone also stars Paul Ready, Matthias Schweighofer, and Jing Lusi in pivotal roles. The plot centres around Rachel Stone, an intelligence agent employed by the peacekeeping agency Charter. In the film, Bhatt’s character steals the Heart, a technological core, from the organization, leading to a thrilling tale of action and drama.
