    TV chef James Martin is reportedly engaged to his personal trainer girlfriend, after once publicly rejecting the idea of getting married.

    James, 53, and his girlfriend Kim Johnson, 39, have been dating for almost two years.

    ITV star James once admitted, “Marriage doesn’t interest me in the slightest”.

    However, things seem to have changed for the chef, who has reportedly got down on one knee for girlfriend Kim, whom he started dating in March 2024.

    Now, according to a source who spoke to The Sun, the star has “never been happier”.

    According to the newspaper, James popped the question and sealed the deal by gifting his girlfriend a brand new Land Rover Defender.

    Kim shared a snap of the new car on her Instagram story, admitting she was “speechless”.

    James Martin has ‘never been happier’ with girlfriend Kim

    “James and Kim may have been dating for less than two years, but when you know, you know,” a source said.

    “Of course, it’s taken James decades to finally get there and friends do share a wry smile that he’s U-turned on his staunch refusal to ever marry. But everyone has seen the change in him since meeting Kim, and he’s never been happier.

    “They are a wonderful couple.”

    James began dating Kim after his split from his girlfriend of 12 years, Louise Davies, in December 2023.

    Kim had previously been married to Arun Nayar, but they split in 2017.

    She and James were first spotted out together in Mayfair in March 2024, and holidayed together in France that summer. Kim moved in with him in October 2024.

    James’ past comments about marriage

    Speaking to The Sunday People back in 2019, James admitted he wasn’t interested in getting married.

    “Marriage doesn’t interest me in the slightest, mainly because I’ve catered for so many weddings, really,” he said.

    “I admire people who do it, that’s fine, but I’m quite happy.

    “I don’t need to spend 60 grand on a day, no, I’m more than happy, thanks,” he then continued.

    Telly chef James Martin has been on a filming break as he deals with his facial cancer diagnosis but now the star is back to work.

    James shared a picture of his chopping board and some knives on Instagram this week.

    Issuing an update about the future of his James Martin’s Saturday Morning show, he said: “Straight back in today to make more Saturday Morning shows!”

    The chef was fresh from winning a TV Choice Award for Best Food Show on Monday (February 12) night. It’s the third year in a row that ITV show James Martin’s Saturday Morning has bagged the coveted prize.

    Chef thanks fans for support

    An excited James shared a snap of his trophy on social media and said: “Holy [bleep], we did it! Best Food Show 2024! Thank you to all who voted… thank you.”

    It’s been a turbulent year for James. The telly fave has been battling a cancer diagnosis for the past few years, and he opened up about it last summer.

    In November he said: “I’ve been through a lot of [bleep] with cancer. But I’m getting sorted at the end of next month. I will be back fighting at the end of February but I’m going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted.”

    James was also at the centre of a bullying row which emerged last July. At the time, audio of the star launching into a foul-mouthed rant at his TV crew while filming his Spanish Adventure series had emerged online.

    James later said that the outburst, and another episode dating from 2018, had been down to several difficult life events, including the death of his grandfather, a burglary at home and the cancer diagnosis.

    Now, it looks like the star is back on track.

    TV chef James Martin has fans concerned on Instagram after he appeared to be hard at work after revealing he was taking time out to treat his cancer.

    A couple of years ago, the 51-year-old chef was diagnosed with facial cancer. However, it wasn’t until this July that he announced it to the public.

    As previously reported James, who hosts James Martin’s Saturday Morning on ITV, revealed earlier this month that he will be “a little bit of a break”.

    “For me personally, I’ve been through a lot of [bleep] with cancer. But I’m getting sorted at the end of next month,” he said. “I will be back fighting at the end of February but I’m going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted.”

    ‘We’re back!’

    On Thursday (November 16), James took to Instagram to announce that he was back to work and filming for James Martin’s Saturday Morning.

    “We’re back! Full day filming @saturdayjamesmartin and to the local for one,” he wrote, adding the beer emoji.

    Aren’t you meant to be taking it easy and sorting your health out Mr Martin?

    He attached a series of snapshots of the set, including what looked to be meat, fish, vegetables and jelly in the kitchen.

    Racking up over 4,200 likes, many of James’ 731,000 followers shared their concerns in the comments section surrounding his health.

    Fans were surprised to see James still working. Especially after he announced he would be taking a break from his career soon to focus on his health.

    “I thought you were supposed to be taking time off to get better James or are you still on a high after your amazing tour. Take care of yourself,” one user wrote.

    “Aren’t you meant to be taking it easy and sorting your health out Mr Martin?” another person shared.

    “Echoing the other comments… make sure you get your self better,” a third remarked.

    “Thought you were headed straight to hospital after the tour!? Remember to stop and smell the roses and take time for you!” a fourth commented.
