Every Item We’re Shopping From the Christopher John Rogers X J.Crew Collab

While each product featured is independently selected by our editors, we may include paid promotion. If you buy something through our links, we may earn commission. Read more about our Product Review Guidelines here.

Designer collabs are one of our favorite retail trends: the pieces are affordable, the designs feel special because they’re limited-edition, and the items become a mainstay in our wardrobes for years to come. But not all partnerships are created equal: there has to be synergy between the retailer and designer for it to really sing. Christopher John Rogers and J.Crew’s new collab, which launches Oct. 23, is arguably the best of the best. Not only is there a history between the labels — CJR worked as a sales associate at the retailer growing up — but the brands both have an affinity for vibrant colors, structured silhouettes, and playful separates, all with an air of sophistication and ease.

The new collab embodies that shared brand ethos with cashmere knits, colorful striped dresses, and trendy barn jackets — all available in sizes XXS to 3X. There’s a navy sequin pleated dress that’s perfect for any holiday event on your calendar as well as a red vinyl top coat that will garner compliments every time you wear it. It has all of the charm and whimsy of Christopher John Rogers’s eponymous line, but for an affordable price point ranging from $50 for a tote bag to $550 for a herringbone boucle top coat. The collab also features children’s items for Crewcuts, including Rogers’s signature multistripe print on a stretch taffeta dress and a brushed cashmere matching sweater-and-skirt set.

Keep scrolling to shop our favorites from the collab before it inevitably sells out, and see the full collection on J.Crew’s site.

  • Looks For Less: Get Hailey Bieber’s Style On A Budget

Looks For Less: Get Hailey Bieber’s Style On A Budget

    New mother
Hailey Bieber has been the ultimate influencer for just about everyone on the planet. She’s dictated trends like chrome nails, glazed donut skin (thanks, rhode), and even hair color. And if Hailey Bieber uses Kosas concealer, so do we.

Not only does she make a product look easy to use, she’s also a supermodel who knows trends
before the public does. Listening to Hailey Bieber expound about trends is the smart thing to do.

But one thing I am confident about is the fact that I cannot afford
Hailey Bieber’s entire wardrobe. Yes, she may be the inspiration for our capsule closets and obsession with basics…she’s also a multi-millionaire. And I, sadly, am not.

That’s not going to stop me from aspiring to a supermodel-caliber closet on a regular salary. In fact, since
Hailey celebrates the basics so much, it actually makes her style affordable to recreate. No one can tell if Hailey’s tee is Prada and mine is H&M…

If you’re going to emulate a celebrity’s style, it’s key to invest in pieces where quality makes a visible difference like leather jackets or dresses. But ultimately, we’re looking to shop smarter and save money.

Hailey Bieber has iconic outfits that we all can easily achieve, so let’s look into how to get her look for less!

    Hailey’s All White Moment

Hailey is blessed. Even while pregnant with son, Jack Blues Bieber, she can wear regular-sized clothing. But what I especially like about this outfit is that it works for multiple occasions and looks terrific on all body types.

Here are some great options for a similar Hailey-inspired look:

And, of course, there’s the bag. A Birkin knockoff by YSL is awesome, but even then, still too pricey. Luckily enough, the market’s glutted with Birkin dupes that are more affordable.

    An Easy Fall Trench Look

Honestly, this is such a fantastic look that’s easily put together with essential items already in your closet: a white tank, trousers, and trench coat. What Hailey does best is make basic look thrilling. And an easily achievable look.

Plus, a trench coat is a necessity when it comes to fall weather. It’s one of the most underrated outerwear pieces for the fashion lover. A trench coat and heels says corporate, it gives off an official vibe that I love.

If you want this ensemble, here are a few close-to-identical pieces:

    A Staple Oversized Leather Jacket

Now that we’re suddenly transitioning into fall weather, we need to start thinking about cold weather pieces. If there’s one thing that is
very Hailey Bieber, it’s an oversized leather jacket.

She’s constantly photographed with a big leather Balenciaga bomber jacket — upwards of $6,000. So while we can’t afford Hailey’s iconic leather jacket — that she wears with everything — we
    can replicate.

These are my favorite leather bombers that are inspired by Hailey:

    A Sassy Fur Coat

If you’re partial to the mob wife aesthetic, this one’s for you. When Mrs. Bieber donned this YSL faux fur jacket with a pair of jeans, red pumps, and sunnies, we knew this would be a style inspo pic for many.

Nothing makes you feel sassier than a fur coat. When I wear one, I seriously feel like a runway model hiding secrets in my jacket. Drape it over a dress for added warmth this winter, with leather leggings, or even jeans like HB.

Here are some of my favorite oversized fur coats:

    A Simple Black Dress

We all love a little black dress. But again, the weather is transitional right now. Great for date night, or dinner with your friends, or just a special occasion in general. I love this dress on Hailey because she lets her accessories do the talking.

Whether you choose to style it with simple jewelry and a chic up-do, or colorful heels and matching bag, with a simple black dress like Hailey’s Bottega Veneta dress you cannot go wrong.

Again, a $2,900 dress isn’t the ideal price tag, I’ve found a few similar looks for far less:

    And A Fun Red Dress

Holiday Season calls for a red dress…I know it, you know it. So let’s get it out of the way early! Have one on deck so you don’t have to stress about it come December.

What amazing about this Hailey look is that she really commits to the all red. Red pumps, red lip, red strawberry earrings, and of course…the red dress.

This Ermanno Scervino Fall 2023 dress is, of course, far beyond our price range. But something like it is certainly achievable. Just look for a structured empire waist and tight bodice on your strapless dress.

Here are a few similar options if you want the Bieber look:

  • J. Crew’s Collab With The Bear Is Not for the Bears

    J. Crew’s Collab With The Bear Is Not for the Bears

Is this a comedy or a drama?
    Photo: Courtesy J. Crew

Good news, foodie bros, How Long Gone listeners, and Brooklyn dads: J.Crew has released a limited-edition line of casual menswear in collaboration with The Bear. And lest you worry about coming across as a fake fan, this stuff doesn’t just have the restaurant’s bear logo or the show’s name on it. Nay, nay, this stuff is a deep cut for the real heads: workwear bearing the logo for fictional in-universe family-owned Chicagoland business “Matter of Fak Supply.”

The Faks, of course, are Berzatto family friends and handymen Neil (Matty Matheson), Ted (Ricky Staffieri), and the newly stunt-cast floor waxer Sammy (John Cena). The merch — a work jacket, trucker hat, sweatshirt, and tee — is sort of workwear cosplay at J.Crew prices. The canvas work jacket is a clone of the one worn by Ted on this season of The Bear, and J. Crew has him modeling it on the website. It is $398, and already sold out in every size …

… Every size they seemingly offer, anyway. Writer Victoria Edel pointed out on X that the sold-out collection maxed out at a 2X, likely excluding Matheson himself. This size-inclusivity oversight on J.Crew’s part represents the issue with this collection, one that embodies a larger tension inherent to The Bear concerning authenticity and a muddled relationship to class. My colleague, TV critic Roxana Hadadi, told me over Slack that the collection is “an interesting glimpse into the show’s actual narrative tension, which is that everyone is so obsessed with chasing high-end, fine-dining success that they’re ignoring what really works, which is the sandwich counter, and who really cares about the success of the business, which is their working-class regulars.

“So The Bear continuing to lean into high-end partnerships with brands like J.Crew, and featuring other super-expensive brands like Thom Browne is actually an unintentional reflection, perhaps, of the literal ignorance the show has for the actual people who support The Bear,” she added.

Moreover, it’s also all just a bit corny, isn’t it? Writer Jesse David Fox, a The Bear fan and self-admitted member of this collab’s target demo, said that the “fake vintage” design on these items, with their fake old logo, “feels like 2005 American Eagle.” Strategist writer Erin Schwartz’s issues with the line were also primarily aesthetic: “Good graphic design is a hack to make your merch seem cool on a T-shirt. And this is bad graphic design.”

Not that it makes a difference: It’s mostly sold out. The only thing left is the trucker hat, for $59.99 and that, at least, is allegedly one size fits all. Or buy, like, four Italian beefs. The choice is yours.

  • I Failed at No-Buy January Thanks to These Elegant J.Crew New Arrivals

I Failed at No-Buy January Thanks to These Elegant J.Crew New Arrivals

Another year, another failed promise to myself to be more fiscally responsible with one browse through J.Crew. While I’m not an impulse shopper by any means, it feels like something takes over me when I enter the store (in person or online) and, quite embarrassingly, I have a fashion blackout.

I’ve written about my love for J.Crew several times in the past, with each story growing increasingly more fanatical. This time is no different. While I pledged that 2024 would be the year that I actually stuck to No-Buy January—a movement to reduce consumption and curb unnecessary spending—I just had to pick up a few things from the retailer. From an adorable top I’m wearing to my birthday to the vintage-inspired Lady jacket that screams office-core, these J.Crew finds made my wallet upset but my heart for the brand grow 10 times fonder.

No, the new closet updates I’m about to showcase here each have something special about them that sets them apart from the basics you could find anywhere else. My Aunt and I Are Both Obsessed With J.Crew—42 Pieces We Agree On

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: My aunt is one of my biggest style inspirations. In my 29 years as her niece, I’ve never seen her looking anything short of pulled-together and ultra-chic, so it should come as no surprise when I tell you that it’s basically her job to help people find their personal style. She went into fashion merchandising and has since worked in everything from personal styling to buying. Almost everyone in our family goes to her for style advice, myself included. And now that we both work in fashion, I’m constantly texting her about everything from the coolest new trends to the items I’m considering buying.

I sat down with her to chat about the best J.Crew shopping. The retailer has recently shot up to the top of my list of go-to stores, and I’ve found more and more reasons to shop its chic and elevated staples, but I wanted to get my aunt’s take on what to buy there now. Despite the nearly 30 years between us, we picked out many of the same J.Crew items, which proves how versatile and ageless these finds really are.

Instead of keeping them to myself, I’m dishing on all the chic J.Crew shopping finds my aunt and I are losing our minds over now. Ahead are 42 perfect picks.

  • My Crystal Ball Says These New J.Crew Jeans Have “Sold Out” In Their Future

My Crystal Ball Says These New J.Crew Jeans Have “Sold Out” In Their Future

If I knew what was good for me (and my wallet), I’d spend more time reading books or, I don’t know, knitting, instead of scrolling on Instagram. And yet, with a job like mine, knowing what’s new on fashion’s unofficial favorite app is kind of important. Or at least, that’s how I justify my shocking amount of screen time. My scrolling habits can’t be so bad, though. After all, without them, I would have never stumbled upon J.Crew’s head of women’s design Olympia Gayot‘s post about the brand’s latest denim drop. And missing that just isn’t an option.

“New year new jeans,” Gayot captioned the post, which features eight photos of J.Crew’s first denim release of 2024. In a majority of the photos, the designer is wearing one specific pair of jeans that I’m predicting will first, break the internet, and second, sell out, hence why I’m glad I saw the post so early. The style, called the side-tab trousers, is from J.Crew’s premium Pointe Sur denim line and features silver side tabs that allow you to resize the trouser-like jeans to fit either low or high on your waist. “I love the Point Sur side-tab denim trouser,” Gayot tells me. “It is constructed with premium made-in-the-US rigid denim and workwear-style tabs that you can adjust so the jeans hit exactly where you want them.”

Since sales continue to pop up post-holidays, you won’t have to break the bank to achieve a fresh-feeling wardrobe for the year ahead.

As the creative director of J.Crew, Gayot is not only responsible for the latest preppy, classic, and trendy pieces at the retailer, she’s also at the helm of the creative direction. • I Live in Venice Beach Where Low-Key Style Is It—These Outfits Hit

I Live in Venice Beach Where Low-Key Style Is It—These Outfits Hit

I’ve always been a city girl. I was born in Kuala Lumpur, grew up in Houston, and upon moving to L.A., lived comfortably east of the 405 for years. But a California hazard they don’t warn you about is that you might meet a cute surfer who eventually lures you all the way west. After some cajoling, I gave in to my inner Pisces, packed up my gray Tabby, and moved us across town to the sun-dappled, salty-aired streets of Venice Beach.

It’s been six years since, and while I may not yet be a bona fide beach babe (I still prefer reading on the sand to roaring waves), it’s home. My hair is blonder, my mornings slower, and I love the neighborhood’s walkability and proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Every time I catch another glorious pink sunset, it does feel a little like living in a fantasy.

If you’ve ever experienced L.A. traffic, you know how vast and sprawling the city is. Different zip codes mean different dress codes, and the attitude in Venice is very relaxed. Denim and comfy shoes reign supreme, and a knit is a must to combat the almost-always-present marine layer. Most of my bolder pieces have been relegated to the back of my closet, awaiting invites for martinis at Tower Bar, dancing at A Club Called Rhonda, and too much pasta at Little Dom’s. So while my highlights may not be low-maintenance, my approach to daily dressing is.

Keep reading for three of my tried-and-true outfits for your next trip to the beach.

I Did Damage at Zara, Mango, and J.Crew—These 31 Items Went in the “Need” Pile

When the end of the year rolls around, it’s always a time for reflection. You can reflect on your accomplishments, your future goals, your travels, your relationships—and of course, your wardrobe. By now in 2023, it’s clear which items you wore over and over again and which ones stayed on the hanger. But a necessary closet clean-out also works in tandem with a replenishment of items you’ll actually wear.

At least, mine did. I spent the last week shopping in the new-arrivals sections at Zara, Mango, and J.Crew in order to source pieces that I could add into my outfit rotation after weeding out styles that needed to be let go. Heading into winter and early spring, I rounded up some toasty sweaters, scarves, and coats to keep warm, but transitional basics that will work for warmer temperatures weren’t forgotten either. There are also minimalist accessories in the mix to go with any kind of outfit, whether you’re dressing up for an upcoming NYE party or wearing something casual to run errands.

Follow my lead with 31 of the best new arrivals from Zara, Mango, and J.Crew, all of which can be found below.

  • The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

Take this from somebody who has owned and currently owns far too many pairs of jeans—the best ones are obtained through word of mouth. There’s really no other way. So when new styles drop that aren’t already beloved by everyone in the fashion community and beyond (including but not limited to Levi’s 501s and Agolde’s Pinch Waist silhouette), they really need to be tested, worn, washed, worn again, and finally, talked about—a lot.

With 2024 wardrobes being conceptualized and built as we speak, I thought I’d get the ball rolling on next year’s must-buy denim by skipping a step in the process. By that, I mean that rather than waiting for the best jeans recommendations to make their way to me, I sought them out. But I didn’t ask just anyone. Instead, I called on the shoppers I trust most, my fellow Who What Wear editors, who, between them all, have probably tested out every pair of jeans on the market at any given time. And as always, they came through. Scroll down to shop the 2024 Zagat guide to denim.

J.Crew’s Hits Just Keep Coming—These Items Are the Getting the Most Buzz

If you’re not already following J.Crew creative director and head designer Olympia Gayot on Instagram, I highly recommend it. Not only is the ’90s-vibe catalogue content a treat, but her occasional office mirror selfies act give you a heads up as to which chic new J.Crew pieces you’ll want to jump on.

Obviously J.Crew is still busy giving us their classics: Easy denim, great-value cashmere knits, and loads of other quality basics to wear on repeat. But now we’re also seeing some buzzy collaborations and regular high-trend moments, such as this fall and winter’s slew of red and metallic pieces, the polished layer affectionately know as the “lady jacket”, and more Mary Janes than we know what to do with. Here are the chic pieces of the moment that you won’t want to miss.

The Most Stylish Celebs Can Have Anything But Chose These Affordable Items

While a celebrity’s style often feels out of reach due to their designer wardrobe, there are select moments when stars choose stylish yet affordable items. This may come as a surprise, as celebrities are known for sporting the most exclusive pieces on the market. However, like the rest of us, It girls aren’t immune to a good deal, and these items are proof that their taste doesn’t always come with a hefty price tag. Runway royalty like Kaia Gerber and up-and-coming superstars like Rachel Zegler have recently been spotted in the chicest items that currently retail for under $200.

  • I Only Buy Cashmere From Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew—These Sweaters Are Why

I Only Buy Cashmere From Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew—These Sweaters Are Why

Running your hands over a cashmere sweater is one of life’s little luxuries. The fiber is sourced from pashmina or cashmere goats and is known for its softness. It can also be mixed with wool to provide extra warmth during the freezing winter months. Basically, any article of clothing is available in the material (pants, socks, scarves, you name it!), but a cashmere sweater is one of the classics you need. It makes layering so much easier in colder temperatures, and there are tons of options you can choose from between turtlenecks, cardigans, polos, and oversize silhouettes.

Though they are a little trickier to care for (you can’t just throw one in the wash and call it a day), the wear you’ll get out of them and the styling versatility they provide make cashmere sweaters well worth their sometimes-hefty price tags. When I’m looking to stock up, I gravitate toward Nordstrom, Shopbop, and J.Crew. Once you scroll through the below list, you’ll understand why. Ahead, I rounded up 33 of the best cashmere sweaters to shop at each retailer so you can feel absolutely luxurious while going about your day this winter.

  • I'm 22, and My Mom Is 48—We Both Adore These Under-$150 Finds

I'm 22, and My Mom Is 48—We Both Adore These Under-$150 Finds

As a single child, I know my mother more than anyone else on the planet and vice versa. Years of shopping for each other and shopping together made us seasoned professionals in each other’s sense of style. And while it’s safe to say we each have very different tastes, as proven by the years of changing-room bickering sessions, there are moments when our opinions on fashion converge. After all, I am my mother’s daughter.

It’s deeply important to understand that style isn’t rooted in youth. Yes, the fashion industry loves to put young 20-somethings on billboards, runways, and advertisements, but fashion is an art form that’s passed down from generation to generation. Before influencers, celebrities, and designers, there was Mom’s closet. She may not have appreciated my ripped jeans in high school, and I may have classified her boho blouses as cheugy, but as adults, we both agree that nothing beats a classic, budget-friendly, and quality-driven wardrobe. Well-made knits, quality footwear, elevated basics, and fitted pants are top of mind for me and my mom. But being the girly girls we are, we do enjoy a fun scarf or some sparkly earrings now and then. Below are 30 items under $150 that we both adore.

We don’t mind a lovely olive green.

A sleek black turtleneck is a need.

How posh is this merino wool half-zip?

Endless outfit potential with a glossy satin top.

Buttery soft leggings for an unbeatable price.

Goes perfectly with some elevated basics and wedge boots.

For going to work in style.

Pure silk for under $100 is a crazy-good deal.

These flare pants are effortlessly stylish.
