  • The VMAs After-Party Outfits That Rivaled the Red Carpet

The VMAs After-Party Outfits That Rivaled the Red Carpet

    [ad_1]

The red carpet at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards was nothing short of spectacular. Taylor Swift stunned in a sultry Versace number while BFF Selena Gomez went with a custom Oscar de la Renta dress in fire-engine red. Olivia Rodrigo shimmered thanks to thousands of Swarovski crystals sewn into her Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress. Oh, and don’t get me started on Cardi B’s metallic dress by Dilara Findikoglu. Now that was a show-stopper.

However, the fun doesn’t end there. The after-party looks were just as daring, exciting, and fashion-forward as the main red carpet. Keep reading to see what Gomez, Ice Spice, and others wore to the 2023 VMAs after parties.

  • Kaia Gerber Has Conquered the Runways, so What’s Next? Comedy Boot Camp

Kaia Gerber Has Conquered the Runways, so What’s Next? Comedy Boot Camp

    [ad_1]

When Gerber’s not putting her comedy chops to the test alongside the greats, you’ll likely find her curled up somewhere with a good book. It’s not out of the norm for her to be rotating between three or four at a time—usually a memoir, a novel, a short story, or a poetry book. She is an enthusiastic consumer of literature, one who will happily ham it up with you about her latest book finds. Recent favorites include Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman, Lucky Dogs by Helen Schulman, and Terminal Boredom by Izumi Suzuki.

“When people think of Kaia Gerber’s Instagram, [I don’t think] they expect to go on and basically see me only talking about books,” she says. Looking for a place to connect with others and start purposeful conversations, Gerber created her own online book club. Each month, she shares a new book with her 9.6 million followers, inviting either the author or a special guest to join her live. “I decided, Why not use this book club as a way to highlight authors and encourage people to read but also as a door or window into conversations that are really difficult to have?” she says. For this reason, she’s quite particular about the titles she chooses each month, basing it on the kind of dialogue she wants to spark. For August, Gerber hosted a live with author Alex Auder to discuss her memoir Don’t Call Me Home, a story that tackles being raised by a Warhol superstar and the intimate bonds of mother-daughter relationships. “I get to have these really incredible authors or people who just have so much insight into these topics. I am a very curious person in my life, and I think it lives in my book club as well,” she adds.

So where does modeling fit into all this? It’s obvious Gerber is leaning more into acting these days, but she is quick to clarify it’s not one or the other. The two can live harmoniously in her life. For the moment, she’s enjoying being more selective with the fashion projects she commits to. “I have fun doing it now because I get to come in and do really special, meaningful things with people that I have really deep, wonderful relationships with,” she says. The Valentino Haute Couture show is one example. Working with longtime friend Hedi Slimane as the face of Celine is another. “I love working with Celine because I really feel like it’s the coolest version of myself, and it’s not at all how cool I am in real life,” she says. Even her fashion choices on the red carpet, for which she collaborates with stylist Danielle Goldberg, are meticulously selected and have intent behind them.

  • Selena Gomez Used Everyone’s Favorite Liquid Blush at the VMAs

Selena Gomez Used Everyone’s Favorite Liquid Blush at the VMAs

    [ad_1]

If one thing in this world is certain, it’s that if Selena Gomez shows up to an awards show, she’s going to pull a major look. This year’s VMAs were no different—Gomez walked the red carpet in a shimmering red dress and strappy heels to match. Though the outfit was head-turning enough, we can’t stop thinking about her makeup.

Gomez complemented her dress with a monochromatic makeup look. She sported a brown, elongated smoky eye and brown lip liner, but hyper-dewy skin and rosy cheeks balanced out the whole look. In true Gomez fashion, the look is entirely Rare Beauty, and done by her longtime makeup artist, Hung Vanngo

It’s no surprise that Gomez would show up wearing Rare Beauty—she’s one of the few celebs that’s truly committed to her own makeup line. There’s still something gratifying, however, about seeing Gomez wearing mega-viral products like her TikTok-famous Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the wild. Keep reading for every Rare makeup product on Gomez’s face. I, for one, will probably be trying to recreate this look ASAP.

  • Wearing Meghan Markle’s Travel Pants and Flats Would Make Any Flight Better

Wearing Meghan Markle’s Travel Pants and Flats Would Make Any Flight Better

    [ad_1]

Meghan Markle is on the move—to Europe for the Invictus Games, specifically—and has the perfect travel outfit for the 10.5-hour flight. As someone who admittedly struggles with long-flight outfit planning, I appreciate all the help I can get (even if Meghan Markle didn’t intentionally mean to help me).

While everything about Markle’s outfit for the trip was spot-on, it was her pants and shoes that really caught my eye. Markle opted for loose wide-leg pants for the flight, which I find to be a genius move. The loose trousers provide comfort for the lengthy flight, but also polish (which they have far more of than leggings or sweatpants). For her shoes, she opted for a pair of chic flat mules, and I’ll tell you why that was also a smart move. Obviously flats are key on travel days, and the backless pair may not be quite as secure as, say, a pair of sneakers, but the benefit you get is not having your shoes rubbing the back of your ankle raw as you walk through a massive airport.

To round out her outfit, Markle wore a V-neck sweater, oversized sunglasses, a designer tote bag, and straw hat. Scroll on to shop the look, as well as some of my favorite wide-leg pants and flats for flights.

Sofia Richie Just Showed Off the Only Chic Way to Do 97° Weather

    [ad_1]

If you’re in New York City or follow anyone on Instagram or TikTok who is, you’re probably already all too aware of the temperature situation. It’s New York Fashion Week, which means that everyone remotely involved in the industry is running around the city, attending presentations, runway shows, and parties, all the while dealing with near-100º temps, equally high levels of humidity, and intermittent thunderstorms and periods of blazing-hot sunshine. We’re surviving, sure, but it’s most definitely not comfortable.

That being said, everyone’s on high alert when it comes to chic hot-weather outfits, scanning the crowds outside of shows for inspiration on what to wear to beat the heat. And while I don’t usually like to brag, I’m happy to do so right now after I spotted Sofia Richie Grainge wearing the perfect (albeit unexpected) garment for every New Yorkers’ current predicament: a nightgown. Specifically, a Prada nightgown from the Italian brand’s spring ’23 runway collection, which she paired with a burgundy Hermès Kelly bag and matching velvet Mary-Jane flats. She also accessorized with chunky gold hoops, black sunglasses, and a classic silver timepiece. The caption on her photos of the look? “97 in NYC = Prada night gown.”

Though I sadly won’t be able to quite afford Richie’s off-the-runway nightgown, the look is certainly inspiring me to get creative with my styling, putting aside normal dressing rules and picking out items that feel comfortable in this weather—even if they are typically worn to bed. If you have the right bag and shoes, after all, anything’ll look chic. Scroll down to see Richie’s 97º outfit and shop the growing nightgown trend.

  • The $89 Nordstrom Dress I Just Overnighted to Copy Laura Harrier’s NYFW LBD

The $89 Nordstrom Dress I Just Overnighted to Copy Laura Harrier’s NYFW LBD

    [ad_1]

New York Fashion Week always comes with a bevy of stylish outfit inspiration, whether it’s coming from editors, influencers, stylists, runway collections, or celebrities. Attendees and designers alike work for weeks and even months to perfect what’s displayed during the week-long event, so of course, the resulting ensembles are often a huge success. But sometimes, style during fashion week can err a bit on the overtop side. And since my style sways more minimal than maximal, I always appreciate when someone debuts an outfit that whispers instead of screams.

One such person is Laura Harrier, who attended a NYFW kick-off party for Fossil wearing a deep-V, polo-neck LBD that featured breast pockets and a maxi hemline with a gold chain necklace and black boots. The look is just the sort I talk endlessly about to my friends and coworkers, swooning over the timeless appeal and sexy yet sophisticated elegance of it all. Luckily, it didn’t take me long to find an $89 similarly polo-neck black dress from Nordstrom’s in-house label Open Edit, a brand every editor keeps in their back pocket, that gives off a near-exact vibe to Harrier’s. And with NYFW still very much going strong, I simply have to have it to wear, like, tomorrow. Shop the LBD I’m overnighting for my own fashion-week events and more gorgeous black dresses for fall below.

Everyone From Alexa Chung to Rihanna Approve of This Boot Trend

In recent years, what once was a “camp” exaggeration of Western style has now become a wardrobe staple that even celebrities can’t ignore: Cowboy boots slowly but surely took over the fashion world slowly, and then all at once. It first came off as a kitschy trend but is now one of the most fun ways to dress up a miniskirt or make an outdated pair of pants feel very current. And stars like Rihanna and Alexa Chung would agree, as I have seen them wear these boots countless times.

Now that fall has arrived, I’m taking the initiative to fill up my closet with the greatest pieces possible. That includes my favorite boot trends and, of course, this Western style is one of them. Below, you’ll find the candidates for my shopping spree. Keep scrolling for the 33 pairs of boots I’m eyeing.

Law, whose parents are Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and Moss, whose mother is Kate Moss, just attended Victoria’s Secret’s red carpet celebration of The Tour ’23.

For the event, the BFFs wore matching sheer minidresses and angel wings. • Dakota Johnson’s Pretty Maxi Dress Just Inspired My Newest Purchase

Dakota Johnson’s Pretty Maxi Dress Just Inspired My Newest Purchase

    [ad_1]

The history of crochet maxi dresses can be traced back to the 1960s and 1970s when the bohemian fashion movement was at its peak. Crochet, a technique that involves creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn with a hooked needle, became immensely popular during this era. Maxi dresses, characterized by their long, flowing designs, were also in style. The combination of crochet and maxi dresses was a natural evolution, as it was comfortable, airy, and stylish—perfect for the free-spirited vibe of the time. Today, crochet maxi dresses continue to be a timeless fashion choice, as Dakota Johnson just proved.

Photographed at Telluride Film Festival, Johnson wore a Chloé dress that’s giving me strong Stevie Nicks vibes. She finished the outfit with a Gucci Jackie bag—named after Jackie Kennedy, another ’60s icon—and a Jessica McCormack necklace. While it’s no Wimbledon as far as an unofficial dress code is concerned, people (especially celebrities) still dress in their casual best—Katie Holmes included. Holmes took to the stands for a recent match dressed in a perfect fall outfit that’s good and easy enough to be worn over and over.

The simple and chic outfit consisted of a tank top, jeans, and a polo-neck sweater from Miu Miu that she tied around her shoulders, as it was a warm day. Charlize Theron Just Made Flats Look So Dang Fancy on the Red Carpet

I’m certainly not an Oscar-winning actress, but I do have one thing in common with Charlize Theron: we’re both 5’10”. As a fellow tall gal, I know the struggle of making flats look polished enough for a night out. People seem to equate heels with dressy occasions, but they are far from the only options you have. To wit: Theron’s newest appearance in New York City.

Attending the opening of Breitling’s new store in the Meatpacking District, Theron wore an oversized blazer, pearl-embellished top, and silky maxi skirt. Other than her sparkling Breitling watch, her strappy flats immediately caught my attention. With this look, Theron just proved once and for all that flats can indeed look fancy. If they’re good enough for the red carpet, they’re good enough for me! Scroll down to re-create Charlize Theron’s newest outfit.

Get ready—one of the first drops of Anine Bing’s fall collection is here, and it’s good. Like, really good. Even better? Yep, Kate Moss (a longtime muse of Anine Bing) is the face of the campaign (photographed by Chris Colls). With a focus on timeless yet modern silhouettes with ’90s-inspired design details, the offering is stocked with the fall pieces you actually want to wear.

What are some of the favorites of Moss? “I loved the leather pieces, they were so soft and luxurious. I also took home the high-waisted denim flares from the shoot, as they were the perfect fit,” Moss stated in quotes provided by the brand. The elevated basics are also noteworthy, and Moss further explained the pieces that are essential to her. “The perfect T-shirt is hard to find but so important, a well-tailored jacket and denim I can wear every day,” she explained in the quotes from Anine Bing.

  • Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford Agree These Jeans Are Best With Ballet Flats

Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford Agree These Jeans Are Best With Ballet Flats

    [ad_1]

When it comes to style inspiration via celebrities, you can rest assured that you’re in good hands with supermodels. The supermodels I’m referring to in this case are Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss, two of the most eternally chic women on the planet. Coincidentally, both women stepped out in similar looks from opposite sides of the pond this week, and they answered an important style question you may have: What are the best jeans to wear with ballet flats?

According to both Crawford and Moss, the answer is cropped straight-leg jeans. Crawford wore her pointed-toe ballet flats with cropped white jeans and a lightweight button-down blouse while Moss wore her traditional black ballet flats with cuffed jeans, and a leather jacket. It makes perfect sense that they’d opt for cropped jeans, as ballet flats have very thin soles and long, baggy jeans tend to swallow them up. You’d be wise to follow the OG supermodels’ lead. Scroll to do so by shopping cropped jeans and wallet flats that I highly recommend.

I don’t know about you, but I’m currently on the “why did you drop out of Yale?” side of TikTok. IYKYK. Every Gilmore Girls fan knows that watching reruns is the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of fall. Nobody nails sweater weather quite like Rory, after all. So it’s no surprise that I immediately thought of Lorelai Gilmore when I saw Olivia Wilde’s cute new outfit.

Wearing a T-shirt, extra-short shorts, and cowboy boots, Wilde’s outfit reminded me of what Lorelai wore in the pilot episode of Gilmore Girls. You know the one: when she’s late to drop off Rory at Chilton and insists that she doesn’t have anything else to wear because it’s laundry day. And then she proceeds to embarrass both Rory and Emily by walking the prestigious school’s hallways in Daisy Duke shorts. For a tennis-loving fashion editor like myself, the U.S. Open is truly the most magical time of year. The event always draws a stylish crowd, including one of the most dedicated tennis fans out there: Anna Wintour. (I personally saw her stay at the event until 1 a.m. for the completion of a Roger Federer match, despite the fact that she’s a notoriously early riser.) This year, we were all in for a real treat because former First Lady Michelle Obama graced us with her presence at the Open.

Obama attended the opening night celebration, which honored the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Open becoming the first sporting event to offer equal prize money to men and women. (Thank you, Billie Jean King!) For the occasion, Obama wore a denim Oscar de la Renta dress with my favorite 2000s trend: a shrug. Cropped cardigans were a staple in my high school wardrobe and I’m delighted to see it resurrected in such a stylish way. Scroll down to see Michelle Obama’s new outfit.
