  • At Salon Art + Design 2025, Innovation, Form and Function Meet Market Enthusiasm

    Salon Art + Design’s 14th edition runs through Monday, November 10, 2025. Miguel McSongwe/BFA.com

Beautifully curated and seamlessly uniting art and design, Salon Art + Design 2025 unfolded once again within the grand setting of the Park Avenue Armory, offering a natural elegance few fairs achieve. It’s an event that never feels forced or overly eclectic; here, 50 global exhibitors assembled a calibrated and elegant mix celebrating craftsmanship at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. The fair maintains the thrill of discovery, offering rare and exquisite objects that require no connoisseur’s credentials to appreciate—especially when the Upper East Side crowd begins shipping champagne. As former director now Chairwoman Jill Bokor told Observer “The atmosphere of the Park Avenue Armory is perfect for an event like Salon, because it, in itself, is a curated work of design.”

At opening night on November 6, that atmosphere—along with the fair’s hallmark elegance—was palpable in every corner, from the Art Deco treasures at Bernard Goldberg Fine Art radiating the charm of the Belle Époque across continents (several of which sold by the opening night) to the ancient South Arabian and Byzantine pieces at Ariadne, which extended the fair’s reach far beyond the 20th Century into the timeless spirituality of the ancient world.

Although design and furniture have been among the collectible categories most affected by Trump’s tariffs—some of which are set to rise to 50 percent in January 2026—dealers at Salon are still presenting an impressive array of modern and contemporary design from across geographies. Several gallerists admitted that their participation was possible only because their pieces had already been imported, noting that the U.S. market is likely to feel the full impact of the new duties in the coming months. Under the executive order signed by Trump on September 29, a 25 percent tariff applies to wood imports and derivative products—including upholstered furniture and kitchen cabinets—effective starting October 14. Imports of softwood timber and lumber face a 10 percent rate, while upholstered wooden products incur a 25 percent duty. Kitchen cabinets and their components are likewise taxed at 25 percent per order, with rates set to climb in January 2026 to 30 percent for upholstered furniture and 50 percent for cabinetry and related parts. This comes at a moment of remarkable strength for the market for collectible design and decorative arts: according to ArtTactic, the category grew 20.4 percent in 2025 to reach $172 million, up from $143 million the previous year.

High attendance at Salon Art + Design’s opening night reaffirmed not only the enduring allure of the fair’s finely curated intersection of art and design but also the growing breadth of its audience—one increasingly active within this more fluid and inclusive space where disciplines meet. The evening drew an exceptional roster of collectors, curators and tastemakers, described by many as “a who’s who of design and art.” The aisles buzzed with familiar figures from the worlds of culture and collecting, including Jeremy Anderson, Paul Arnhold, Alex Assouline, Jill Bokor, Elizabeth Callender, Rafael de Cárdenas, Lady Liliana Cavendish, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Linda Fargo, Alessia, Fe and Paola Fendi, Douglas Friedman, John and Christine Gachot, Monique Gibson, Nathalie de Gunzburg, Maja Hoffmann, Mathieu Lehanneur, Dominique Lévy, Ben and Hillary Macklowe, Lee Mindel, Carlos Mota, Dr. Daniella Ohad, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Claire Olshan, Bryan O’Sullivan, Nina Runsdorf, Irina Shayk, Robert Stilin, Sara Story, Indré Rockefeller, Emmanuel Tarpin, Jamie Tisch, Nicola Vassell, Stellene Volandes, Emily Weiss and Charles and Daphne Zana, among many others.

In one of the first rows, Converso Modern’s booth paired Alexander Calder’s vibrant tapestries—crafted in Guatemala and Nicaragua—with a tribute to Pennsylvania’s New Hope Modern Craft Movement, the 1960s community that bridged traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Highlights included sculptural metal and carved wood pieces by Phillip Lloyd Powell and Paul Evans, shown alongside the elemental modernism of George Nakashima.

Awarded this year’s Best Booth, the London-based Crosta Smith Gallery presented a moody, cinematic homage to 1930s Art Deco—refined, atmospheric and irresistibly elegant. Marking the centenary of the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, the defining event of the Art Deco era, the gallery presented a selection of impeccably preserved works in wood, lacquer and galuchat celebrating a century of decorative mastery. Each piece reflected the sophistication of the 1920s and 1930s, including exquisite creations by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Katsu Hamanaka and Clément Rousseau. Particularly striking was a pair of lacquer panels by Hamanaka depicting Adam and Eve dancing in nature with quintessential Deco elegance—the sinuous lines and subtle symbolism balanced by the sensual tension of intertwined snakes. Equally rare was Ruhlmann’s méridienne in amboyna burl wood, gilt bronze and silk bourrette upholstery—a unique variant of the Marozeau model commissioned by the Borderie family, epitomizing his sculptural refinement. Founded in 2018 by Marine Edith Crosta and Daniel Smith after collecting Art Deco while furnishing their home in the south of France, the gallery is now participating in all leading design fairs, including PAD London.

Nearby, Downtown-based Bossa Furniture continued to serve as a bridge between the U.S. and Brazil, showcasing the warmth of modernist Brazilian design through an intergenerational dialogue between Joaquim Tenreiro—one of the founders of modern Brazilian design—and contemporary designer Lucas Recchia, accented with a vintage stool by Lina Bo Bardi. Returning for their second year at the fair and fresh from Design Miami/Paris, Bossa sold a unique chaise by Joaquim Tenreiro during the preview, priced at $90,000, along with two pieces by Recchia.

Many exhibitors adopted a curatorial approach that seamlessly integrated art and design, blurring distinctions between collectible furniture, fine art and historical masterpieces. At Incollect, a captivating juxtaposition paired modernist and contemporary design with an Anish Kapoor reflective sculpture and playful Picasso ceramics, creating a lively dialogue between modern icons.

Elsewhere, Galerie Gabriel skillfully paired modern design with works by Sam Falls, while several booths leaned fully into fine art. Opera Gallery, with its global presence, offered an interior-friendly selection of blue-chip names designed to appeal to Salon’s broad audience. Standouts included a striking George Condo drawing priced around $100,000, a sensuous Picasso work on paper and sculptures by Manolo Valdés—among them a wooden reinterpretation of his Menina series inspired by Velázquez. Another highlight was Carlos Cruz-Diez’s optically mesmerizing Physichromie Panam 112, shown alongside pieces by Juan Genovés, Thomas Dillon, Keith Haring, Cho Sung-Hee, Jae Ko and André Lanskoy.

The 60-year-old Galerie Gmurzynska, specializing in 20th-century modern and contemporary classics, impressed with a monumental Louise Nevelson work, City Series (1974), spanning an entire wall and exemplifying her mature phase of assemblage sculpture. The booth also included three mixed-media collages by Nevelson, a rare early wood panel by Robert Indiana from his Coenties Slip period and Yves Klein’s F 48 (1961), a luminous piece from his Monochrome und Feuer exhibition. A rare surviving box construction by Dan Basen from the 1960s New York avant-garde rounded out the presentation. “We love taking part in Salon Art + Design. The blend of art, design and jewelry is truly exceptional, a great experience. The opening was extremely well attended, and we have sold one work so far,” said gallery director Isabelle Bscher, who represents the third generation of the Swiss-born Gmurzynska family at Salon Art + Design 2025.

New York-based Onishi Gallery, known for championing contemporary Japanese art and design, presented “Clay, Iron, and Fire: The Bizen and Setouchi Heritage,” a striking tribute to Japan’s enduring craft traditions. The exhibition celebrated the intertwined legacies of Bizen ceramics—born 900 years ago from the region’s iron-rich clay and revered by tea masters for their organic textures—and Osafune swordmaking, famed for its refined curvature, subtle grain and balance. With works ranging from a $2,900 sword to ceramic masterpieces priced between $30,000 and $50,000, the booth embodied Japan’s devotion to transforming natural materials into lasting beauty, infused with the timeless aesthetics of wabi-sabi and ichi-go ichi-e.

Similarly devoted to the Japanese spirit of craftsmanship, the minimalist, clean booth of Ippodo Gallery explored the meeting point between Eastern sensibility and Western material practice, featuring Ymer & Malta’s pioneering resin light sculptures (Paris), Akira Hara’s intricate Murrine glass works (Venice) and Andoche Praudel’s tactile ceramics (Loubignac). Examining materiality as a universal language, their works dissolved the boundary between art and function, finding beauty in tactile intelligence. By the close of opening day at 9 p.m., the gallery had sold more than $60,000 worth of art. “The preview event drew a large number of enthusiastic visitors, and it’s clear that the fair has grown and evolved since last year,” Churou Wang, the gallery’s associate director, told Observer. “We’re looking forward to seeing how the coming days unfold.”

On the contemporary design front, London’s Gallery FUMI stood out with a presentation celebrating its new representation of San Francisco-based artist and designer Jesse Schlesinger, coinciding with his first-ever design exhibition, Pacific, at the gallery’s London flagship. Ahead of a dedicated presentation at FOG Design + Art in San Francisco, FUMI showcased Schlesinger’s sculptural furniture—works merging nature, philosophy and material consciousness. A second-generation carpenter deeply rooted in the Bay Area, Schlesinger crafts with locally salvaged wood, blending ceramics, bronze, glass and wood into meditations on texture, surface and function.

London’s Charles Burnand Gallery, which specializes in collectible design and lighting, presented a captivating booth that reflected the growing shift in taste toward design rooted in organic sensitivity and material depth. Its curated presentation, “Liminal Monuments: The Edge of Becoming,” unfolded as an elegant choreography of designers across geographies, exploring form in a state of becoming—continuous growth, evolution and transformation. Every object in the booth felt interconnected and evocative of natural structures, from plant life to geology, offering a contemporary design language that draws inspiration from nature to rediscover the soul of materials and humanity’s relationship with them.

Particularly outstanding among the booth’s luminous creations was Midnight Tulip by Ian Milnes—a meditation on the transience of beauty, capturing a fleeting moment suspended between bloom and disintegration. Inspired by the 16th-century phenomenon of “broken tulips” and crafted from sycamore, walnut, cherry and resin, its marquetry petals appeared to drift outward in slow motion, their blackened, watercolor-like surfaces evoking both bloom and decay—embodying a space where fragility and radiance coexist. Equally striking were the organically graceful, cocoon-like wire-crochet lamps by Korean designer Kyeok Kim, floating in the corner like luminous cellular formations that connected the micro- and macrocosmos through shared patterns and order. Handcrafted from fine metal mesh, these sculptural lights existed in a liminal space—both soft and metallic, airy yet architectural—expressing fragility and endurance in perfect balance.

And as always, Salon Art + Design offered museum-quality treasures at the top tier of the market. A standout among them was Alexander the Great, presented by Phoenix Ancient Art—a gilded bronze Roman sculpture from the 1st Century with obsidian and alabaster eyes that radiated the aura of a rediscovered world. Believed to be one of only two known portraits of Alexander—the other housed in Herculaneum—the work was a rare masterpiece of ancient craftsmanship.

Todd Merrill Studio’s booth also bridged designers across geographies, uniting leading artists from North America, Europe and South Korea, reaffirming the gallery’s reputation for material innovation and sculptural form. Highlights included Amsterdam-based Maarten Vrolijk’s Sakura Pendant Lighting—a luminous evolution of his Sakura Vessels—and German artist Markus Haase’s new bronze and onyx works, including a monumental chandelier and reimagined Circlet series pieces that merged sculpture and illumination through exceptional craftsmanship.

While some of the biggest names in collectible design—Carpenters Workshop, Friedman Benda, Salon 94 and Nilufar—were absent this year, likely due to the proximity of the Paris and Miami fairs, their absence was hardly felt. Instead, Salon Art + Design 2025 unfolded with a rare sense of cohesion and restraint, offering a stage where eras and disciplines engaged in a fluid dialogue that held at its center a timeless sense of beauty born from the convergence of material awareness, craftsmanship and innovation—qualities that defined the fair’s most striking functional yet evocative objects.

  • Irina Shayk Says *This* is One of Her Major Secrets for Glowing Skin

Irina Shayk Says *This* is One of Her Major Secrets for Glowing Skin

According to Shayk, one of the things she swears by to keep her skin youthful and plump is collagen. Obviously, collagen supplements aren’t a new thing to hit the market in any way, shape, or form, but Shayk even shared that her particular favorite which is Vida Glow’s Marine Collagen (her flavor preference is also blueberry). In true, “I’ll have what she’s having” fashion, I ordered a few for myself and am excited to give this formula go. I’ve had success with other collagen powders.

While this brand offers marine collagen sustainably sourced from fish skin, I’ve been taking a bovine collagen supplement that has helped me in more ways than one. Ingesting collagen can help strengthen your nails and hair, while plumping fine lines and giving your skin new life and vitality. I can say this is definitely true having taken a collagen supplement consistently for around three months now. I was really surprised by the results and am definitely open to trying other formulas to see how they compare. Vida Glow’s formula is designed to do the same, it offers increased skin suppleness, it smooths fine lines, and works on a cellular level to promote optimal skin function.

If Shayk loves it and it will give my skin an otherworldly glow like hers, I’m in! You can shop Shayk’s favorite flavor below.

  • Does ex husband Tom Brady moving on with Irina Shayk help Gisele Bündchen’s freedom? Here’s what we know

Does ex husband Tom Brady moving on with Irina Shayk help Gisele Bündchen’s freedom? Here’s what we know

Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady‘s separation came as a major shock to netizens across the world last year.  After 13 long years of marriage, the supermodel and the NFL star announced their divorce in 2022, surprising their fans and well-wishers. Ever since the two split, dating rumors have floated around the former couple who share two children together.

While Bündchen has been linked to her jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente, Brady has been linked to reality television star Kim Kardashian and supermodel Irina Shayk. After several reports, the former football player was spotted getting cozy with Shayk, sparking the dating rumors a massive notch. Here’s how Bündchen is reported to be feeling about the same.

Are Tom Brady and Irina Shayk dating?

According to the pictures obtained by TMZ, Brady and Shayk spent two days hanging out with the quarterback picking the model from Hotel Bel-Air and driving them to his home. The two were all smiles and the model was reported to have only left his place the next morning. Paparazzi pictures also show Brady stroking Shayk’s cheek as they sit in his car.

While some reports claim they met in May at the wedding of rich art heir Joe Nahmad and model Madison Headrick, others claim the two were already friends before that. Meanwhile, TMZ claimed that Bündchen is “not happy at all” about her ex-husband dating Shayk but a recent report by the portal sees a source close to the model rubbishing these rumors.

How does Gisele Bündchen feel about Tom Brady dating Irina Shayk?

“Why wouldn’t she be happy for Tom? She divorced him. It is helpful to her freedom that he moved on,” the source said. They added that Bündchen and Shyak are not friends, but have known each other professionally from having worked in the same industry for years. The source concludes that the two have been cordial every time they’ve crossed paths.

Meanwhile, Brady has been linked to Kim Kardashian recently but sources claim the two are just friends. Shayk has had two prominent previous relationships with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bradley Cooper. While the model was with the football player from 2010 to 2015, she dated the actor from 2015 to 2019 and has a daughter named Lea De Seine with him. Bündchen and Brady have a son named Benjamin and a daughter named Vivian.

According to reports, Shayk barely “let [Brady] out of her sight” and was “throwing herself at him” during the wedding in May. Brady was also reported to have told the model that he “wasn’t interested” but the rest is now history with the recent images of them surfacing on the Internet. Shayk’s representative slammed the story back then calling it “completely false” and a “totally malicious” account of the star-studded Italian wedding celebration.

  • Irina Shayk Breaks Silence On ‘Malicious’ Tom Brady Rumors

Irina Shayk Breaks Silence On ‘Malicious’ Tom Brady Rumors

Irina Shayk is setting the record straight.

Representatives for the supermodel pushed back on a recent report claiming that Shayk “made ‘a beeline’” for retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady at a wedding last week.

Page Six, citing “spies,” reported Friday that Shayk “scarcely let [Brady] out of her sight throughout the weekend-long festivities” and “was throwing herself at him.”

But a spokesperson for the model told the Daily Mail that “this story is completely false.”

“It is a totally malicious and fictional account of the evening,” Shayk’s agent, Cheri Bowen of the Society Management, said on Sunday.

Representatives for Shayk and Brady did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment.

Shayk was in a four-year relationship with actor Bradley Cooper, until the two split in 2019. They share a daughter, Lea De Seine, who was born in 2017.

Brady is recently single. He and supermodel Gisele Bündchen announced they had finalized their divorce in October, after months of speculation.

Bündchen candidly addressed what led to the split in a cover story with Vanity Fair in March. She also shut down any notion that the two broke up over Brady’s football career.

“When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together,” she told the magazine. “As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. That doesn’t mean you don’t love the person.”

Brady and Bündchen tied the knot in 2009 and have two children, Benjamin, 13, and Vivian, 10. Brady also has a son, Jack, 15, from a previous relationship with actor Bridget Moynahan.

Irina Shayk Just Pulled Off the 2000s Denim Trend Everyone Loves to Hate

There are a handful of fashion debates that everyone seems to have an opinion on. The polarizing topics will undoubtedly illicit heated love-or-hate responses—rarely anything in between. Low-rise skinny jeans are definitely among these controversial trends, and Irina Shayk just reignited the debate about whether they’re back from the dead or not.

Of course, you already know that low-rise skinny jeans were all the rage back in the early 2000s. My mind immediately goes to Paris Hilton and Jennifer Lopez in all their Y2K glory. Now, Shayk is proving that she can pull off the look with ease. Scroll down to see her latest outfit.

Irina Shayk Wore a Sheer Maxi Dress With Bikini Bottoms to the Miami Grand Prix

Every year, more and more celebrities seem to flock to Formula One races, with the Miami Grand Prix, which took place this weekend, being among the most popular of the entire season. Over the three-day event, the likes of A$AP Rocky, Madelyn Cline, Roger Federer, and Emily Ratajkowski all made their way to the Miami International Autodrome in their best race-day attire, but the celeb with the most interesting and unexpected take on F1 style was, without a shadow of a doubt, Irina Shayk

On Sunday, Shayk posted a photo dump for her 21.8 million Instagram followers with the caption “F1” followed by a black heart emoji. In it, the supermodel can be seen roaming the F1 paddock alongside former Burberry creative director Riccardo Tisci and model Stella Maxwell wearing the opposite of proper racing attire. By that, I mean she chose to layer a completely sheer tank dress on top of a cropped, white tee and bikini bottoms, finishing off the ensemble with Nike tube socks and point-toe sling-backs. (Practical.) For some much-needed sun protection, she added a black baseball cap and a chic pair of oval sunglasses.

Shayk’s outfit—which prioritized style over utility in almost ever way—only goes to show that the relationship between fashion and F1 is growing at a pace only comparable to the actual cars on track. • Time Is a Flat Circle in the Coachella Desert

Time Is a Flat Circle in the Coachella Desert

It’s Monday in mid-April, also known as that brief nether-time between Coachella weekends. Historically, it’s a time when one pores over the artifacts from the festival’s first half, reliving the live streaming and scrolling through the photographs to see who was there wearing some outfit. It’s a time to remember the Coachellas of yore, and ask, Can you believe this is still part of our world? It’s been a thing for so long, and yet, it’s still a thing. Yes, inertia can still be surprising.

The nearly 25-year-old music festival in the California desert paused for three years over the pandemic, before coming back in 2022. This is the first spring it feels like it’s back in full force though, with performances from Bad Bunny, Blackpink, and an odd one from Frank Ocean. These certainly are relevant acts that many were excited to see. But whether it’s because of the hiatus or for some other reason, the spring festival feels eternally like the 2010s.

The celebrities, at least, seemed to be reliving the glory days. There were Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello making out like it was 2019 (the couple broke up in 2021, and one anonymous source told Page Six that this did not mean they’re back together). Leonardo DiCaprio hung out with model Irina Shayk, coparent with Bradley Cooper, along with a “bevy of beauties” like it was 2013. Revolve “activated in the desert” again, while other brands “generated organic placements” with their own activations, as they did when Instagram was the new and exciting social media site. These are missives from another time.

One sign that Coachella does not simply exist as hologram beamed through Instagram from some time between 2012 and 2015 is this:

    Twitter content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

There was a time when Vanessa Hudgens would move mountains to party in the desert. And now, for whatever reason, she had to miss weekend one. She’s practically abandoned her post! Was caught sleeping on the job! Has moved on! Except, well, there’s always weekend two for Hudgens, and as for the Groundhog Day of it all? At least she’s experiencing “FOMO,” a very 2014 emotion.

  • Rihanna, Johnny Depp and Savage X Fenty Vol. 4

Rihanna, Johnny Depp and Savage X Fenty Vol. 4

Although Rihanna has seemingly side-stepped attempts at cancelling her existence after reports revealed that Johnny Depp would be in the Vol. 4 edition of the Savage X Fenty fashion show, some will still find it difficult to stomach Depp’s appearance. Which is somewhat ironic considering how much the public relished the schadenfreude of lambasting Amber Heard for being a “liar and a fraud” during the Depp v. Heard defamation trial that concluded back in June of this year. When, suddenly, Depp looked all shiny and new (read: employable) again upon winning the trial. It didn’t take long, however, for many to understand that vilifying Heard was largely to the benefit of misogynists (which, sadly, also includes many women).

Ones who continue to wield this case as a key example of women being “cunts” not to be trusted or believed. And, to be clear, those touting Depp v. Heard as a “much-needed” beacon of light for men who are abused by women, one ought to consider that a five-foot-eight, one hundred sixty(-plus)-pound man can’t really get all that “hurt” (at least not without weaponry) by someone of Heard’s stature. This isn’t to say women aren’t capable of kicking an ass when necessary, it’s just that one gets the impression Heard was engaging in the same type of maneuvers as Katie (Soleil Moon Frye) in that Friends episode, “The One with the Girl Who Hits Joey”—wherein Joey (Matt LeBlanc) keeps insisting Katie punches him too hard when doing it “playfully.” A claim that, what a surprise, gets validated in Joey’s favor.

In any event, let’s rewind to 2009, when Rihanna herself was the victim of an abusive relationship (and yes, regardless of what people say, Depp was abusive toward Heard, even if “only” verbally…since the physical abuse revealed wasn’t deemed “enough”). Her then-boyfriend, Chris Brown, smacked the shit out of her to such a degree that she couldn’t even pretend to carry on for a scheduled appearance at the Grammys. Cut to 2012-2013, when Rihanna decided to give Brown another chance (resulting in a very uncomfortable musical collaboration on Unapologetic called “Nobody’s Business”). In many ways, that’s what putting Depp in Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 feels like. Another conduit through which to “forgive.” Though, of course, Rihanna apologists would like to say that being a “true” survivor of domestic abuse, she can recognize who has actually been an abuser versus who has suffered abuse. With some (okay, many) saying Depp is the real victim in the scenario. In other words, whatever one needs to tell themselves in order to “comfortably” watch Depp participating in new projects.

Brief though this particular appearance from Depp may be, perhaps the most disturbing element about it is the fact that Rihanna opted to soundtrack his arrival to Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean.” For those who might have forgotten the arrogant, “dapper” lyrics, they boast, “Ain’t nobody dope as me/I’m just so fresh and clean/Don’t you think I’m so sexy?/I’m just so fresh and clean.” Obviously, Depp is anything but these two descriptors, which is why Rihanna trying to help “rebrand” him as such feels so cringe. The placement of his “cameo” also seems tailored in such a way as to make viewers largely gloss over it, as it comes neither too close to the beginning nor near the end. Instead, Rihanna wastes no time in announcing that she’s the star of the show as she makes her grand entrance to the very problematic ASAP Rocky song, “D.M.B.” (in case you couldn’t guess, the abbreviation stands for “dats my bitch” or, if you must, “DAT$ MAH B!*$H”). In addition to such gross (and, yes, misogynistic) lyrics as, “Roll my blunt, fill my cup, be my bitch, rub my gut/Rub yo’ butt, be my slut, be my cunt, yeah, so what?,” ASAP also declares, “Bad girls wanna have fun.” This being repeated in remix form as Rihanna does her “dance”/strut against the forest tableau that takes up most of the show. Through this not-so-subtle act of including the theoretically “Bonnie and Clyde”-oriented tone from the outset, Rihanna makes it clear, once again, what her taste in men tends to favor (extending toward none other than Depp).

With that performance out of the way, Rihanna allows room for Precious Lee, who models one of many patterns to the tune of “Lick It N Split” by Zebra Katz and Shygirl. Upon Precious being thrust up against a tree, the song then transitions to the chaotic “Crazy” by Doechii. Men running through the forest with women slung under over their backs seems, evidently, the best way to match this track’s energy. And yet, it also offers more symbolism about what appears to be Rihanna’s own internalized sense of misogyny as women come across as being utterly disposable playthings in such a scene. The pendulum of that sentiment, however, shifts when Missy Elliott’s “Hot Boyz” starts to play—or rather, the sentiment would shift if Damson Idris didn’t materialize in purple pajamas at the center of a group of harem-like women. For “Hot Boyz,” the inverse permutation would be required, with a woman at the center of multiple men instead.

The intent to make every scene of the spectacle present itself as visceral and exotic persists with Anitta. And it only takes about six minutes for the sex-positive Brazilian pop singer to offer her ass to the camera as she sings “Practice” (usually featuring another ASAP, Ferg). The song in question undeniably includes the ideal lyrics for promoting lingerie: “We don’t make babies, but we practice.” She then segues into “Envolver” before more animation (complete with a woman being “enfolded” into a tree) appears to transition us into the next batch of designs to parade. This time, with Cara Delevingne at the center of it all as Nas’ “Oochie Wally” fades into 50 Cent’s “Just A Lil Bit.” It’s here that Taraji P. Henson then leads a line of cavorting women with interconnecting braids (it’s all very elaborate).

Don Toliver subsequently enters into the “majestic forest” with a performance of “Take Your Time,” another lingerie-appropriate track that urges, “Let’s do it baby/Let’s do it tonight/Take me to your crib and we can party all night.” Like Anitta, Toliver also gets to promote two songs, opting for “Way Bigger” as the second one, during which he provides more salacious lyrics tailored to shilling bras and panties. Case in point, “With a bad bitch through the whole pandemic/Lemme hit the hole through the whole ninth inning/Eatin’ and beatin’ the whole night swimmin’.” And this, unfortunately, is what takes us to the Depp part of the show. Which comes at a strategic moment in that Rihanna has already stacked the “fashion parade” with plenty of other cameos, including Taylour Paige, who offers a very memorable monologue before sauntering in “bad bitch mode” to Dave featuring Stormzy’s “Clash.”

Following that, at the twenty-minute mark (halfway through it all), Depp is “blessed” with his screen time. As previously mentioned, Rihanna ill-advisedly opted to soundtrack Depp’s entrance with Outkast’s “So Fresh So Clean”—and yes, even Depp has a look on his face that seems to say, “What am I doing here?” After he does a reluctant “catwalk” through the forest and concludes with hugging a tree (perhaps dendrophilia is his latest flame), another animation sequence arrives. One that fittingly displays some kind of rupture in the universe—this being precisely what has happened with the verdict of the Depp v. Heard trial. After we’re shown the formation of some crystals in cartoon form that become the real-life backdrop of the next set, the scene gives way to a portion of Vol. 4 that does a better job of accenting bombastic maquillage than it does lingerie.

The mood shifts thanks to more animation that provides a cartoon version of Maxwell underwater trying to get his hands on a yellow ball that bursts as he’s then sucked from one hole into another (interpret that metaphor how you will). He then emerges from the next water realm inside that very yellow ball now scaled to a far more massive size. It then shoots up into the sky like a comet so that the real Maxwell can serve as the penultimate performer (of “Whenever, Wherever, Whatever”) amid a backdrop of some very phallic cacti.

The seductive, “drop them panties” attitude continues with Janet Jackson’s “Would You Mind” as a dancer very orgasmically quivers right when Janet utters that very word (“quiver”). Afterward, Jackson’s “Throb” leads us into one of the most flagrantly suggestive animation sequences involving rocket ships and explosions. The wildin’ out choreography continues almost as a means to distract from how this season’s collection isn’t quite as impressive as the one in Vol. 3 (replete with Busta Rhymes songs, to boot). Nonetheless, the choreography is admittedly fire—and continues to be as DJ Blue’s “Look Like You,” Konshens and J Capri’s “Pull Up to Mi Bumper” and Oxlade’s “Ku Lo Sa” play before Burna Boy rounds out the show with, what else, “Last Last” (and “It’s Plenty”).

The “yellow” segment comprises the finale, featuring Lilly Singh as the initial “centerpiece” of the motif. Yellow, incidentally, representing the color of cowardice—let the viewer be the judge of whether or not Rihanna is either “brave” or cowardly for certain casting decisions in this edition…

For the conclusion, Rihanna opts to close the show with SOPHIE’s “Not Okay” (interpolated with Omarion’s “Touch”). Almost like a subconscious admission of the fact that what she’s done is, well, not okay. And while she might consider herself a champion of artistic freedom or some such, it’s rather a shame that what is actually a very beautifully-presented show should be besmirched with the mark of Depp’s presence. Providing another open invitation for abusers to reemerge once they’re either 1) able to flip the switch on the woman that “falsely accused” them or 2) enough time passes for the public memory to be “just hazy enough” to forget. Though it would take a lot of weed to create the haze necessary to forget about Depp declaring to Heard, “I pushed you” or “I headbutted you in the fucking forehead. That doesn’t break a nose.” Which, honestly, is the last image one wants to have in their head during “sexy time” (not to mention the automatic correlation with Depp to a shit on the bed).

Irina Shayk and Bradley Cooper Are Reportedly Trying For a Second Child

Bradley Cooper has always managed to stay relatively tight-lipped on his relationship with model Irina Shayk, and in 2019, People confirmed that the couple had officially broken up. Since they share a child, they’ve obviously remained in contact over the years since, especially during lockdown. In the summer of 2022, it was rumored that they were considering getting back together, and maybe even expanding their family.

Here, a breakdown of the couple’s private four years together, and the suspected rekindling.

April 2015: Cooper and Shayk were first spotted together by sleuths for Page Six, who saw the new couple at a performance of Finding Neverland on Broadway. At the time, a source told the paper that it was “a friendly relationship—for the time being.”

A few days later they attended the Vanity Fair-Bloomberg White House Correspondents’ Dinner party in Washington D.C. but reportedly “kept any obvious flirting to a minimum.”

Both Cooper and Shayk had recently come out of long-term relationships. In January, Shayk split with her boyfriend of five years, soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, after rumors of Ronaldo’s infidelity became public, while Cooper had ended his two-year relationship with actress Suki Waterhouse in March.

May 2015: The first official photos of the couple came the following month when paparazzi found the pair strolling around New York City arm in arm.

Both Cooper and Shayk attended the Met Gala early in the month, though they arrived and left separately from the high-profile event. Still, Page Six spies reportedly saw them “making out” until the wee hours of the morning at Rihanna’s after party at a nightclub in Manhattan.

A week later the new couple seemed much more comfortable with their P.D.A. as they were photographed kissing in the daylight hours on the streets of London.

June 2015: In June, the couple made their Buckingham Palace debut at a dinner for The Prince of Wales’ Charitable Foundation hosted by Prince Charles. According to Us Weekly, Cooper and Shayk were a little confused over what fork to use during the meal, but that didn’t stop them from enjoying the evening together. A source told the magazine, “Irina is smart and mature. They have a great connection. Bradley needs a girl who can keep up with him.”

August 2015: Later that summer, the couple took a romantic vacation to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, where they were photographed gazing into each others eyes on a rocky beach. If there were any doubts left over their relationship, these photos quickly put them to rest.

September 2015: Shayk met Cooper’s mother, Gloria Campano, over Labor Day Weekend in 2015 as the trio hung out on the beach together in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

A week later, Shayk and Campano headed out in New York City for a walk with Cooper’s dog, Charlotte. During this time, a source told E! News, “Irina is just so happy how things are going with Bradley. She adores his mother and they get along great.”

October 2015: While the couple wasn’t prepared to make their relationship red carpet official, they did attend the premiere of Cooper’s film Burnt together, even inviting both of their mothers to come along.

November 2015: The couple took the next big step in their relationship the following month, with Cooper moving into Shayk’s New York apartment. Cooper had previously been checking out apartments in the city, a supposed “bachelor pad,” according to the New York Daily News, but gave up the hunt to move in with Shayk in the West Village.

March 2016: Almost a year after they started dating, Cooper and Shayk made their red carpet debut at the L’Oreal Red Obsession party during Paris Fashion Week. Their appearance during fashion week dispelled some burgeoning rumors that the couple had split, and Cooper had moved on to another supermodel, Naomi Campbell.

A source told Page Six, “Bradley and Irina are both friends with Naomi.”

During Paris Fashion Week, the couple also attended the Opera together for the Arop Charity Gala, where Shayk gave a standing ovation despite everyone else around her being a dud and staying seated.

July 2016: More rumors of trouble emerged after Cooper and Shayk were seen at Wimbledon in London, where the couple appeared to be arguing, causing Shayk to shed a few tears. However, photos of the couple at the match show them looking smiling, happy, and chatting. Shortly after a video of the alleged fight went viral, reports came out that her tears were just the result of hay fever. Naturally!

Later in the month, the couple took another Italian vacation, this time hitting the beaches of Lake Garda.

November 2016: In November, Us Weekly reported that Shayk and Cooper were expecting their first child. The model showed off her ever-so-slight baby bump while walking the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris.

December 2016: First comes a baby, then comes marriage? A new emerald ring on Shayk’s left hand ignited rumors of an engagement to Cooper, but the couple remained mum on any new changes to their relationship.

March 2017: Cooper and Shayk welcomed their first child on March 21, a daughter named named Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper.

July 2017: A few months after becoming parents, the couple took a star-studded vacation to Tahiti with Allison Williams, Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, and Diane Von Furstenberg. Further proof that if the couple knows how to do anything, it’s vacation.

October 2017: That fall the new parents headed out in L.A. for a family trip to a pumpkin patch in Los Angeles. Shayk walked the dog while Cooper held Lea in a baby carrier.

January 2018: A few months later, they enjoyed another family outing to Sunset Beach in Los Angeles, where 10-month-old Lea crawled in the sand and sat on her dad’s shoulders while Shayk looked on smiling.

May 2018: The couple made another rare red carpet appearance at the 2018 Met Gala, where Shayk wore the same emerald ring that was spotted on her left hand over a year earlier. Still, neither Cooper or Shayk discussed the engagement rumors.

Later that month, the couple enjoyed a quiet date night, sneaking in a side door for a screening of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Before the film, they spent time mingling with other celebrities like Tiffany Haddish and Ali Hewson.

August 2018: The couple turned the Venice Film Festival into a family affair in August. While Cooper was there to promote A Star Is Born, Shayk and daughter Lea accompanied him, being photographed riding on boats and walking around the city.

October 2018: While press for Cooper’s Oscar-nominated film A Star Is Born was at an all-time high that fall, rumors of a troubled relationship began to circulate. A source told Page Six, “They are miserable together. They have been for months. He doesn’t drink and is into spirituality. She wants to go out.”

December 2018: But rumors be damned! In early December, Cooper showed his support for Shayk, attending the Versace fashion show in New York where the model walked.

A few weeks later the couple looked happy during a family trip to Disneyland. A source told Us Weekly, “They were all smiles and looked like they were having such a fun time. When I saw them, they were leaving Disneyland and heading to California Adventure. He was carrying [Lea]. I was walking in between him and [Shayk], so I saw him look back laughing and gesturing for her to come up next to him.”

January 2019: The couple started off the new year with a red carpet appearance, attending the Golden Globes together on January 6, where Copper was nominated for Best Director and Best Actor for A Star Is Born.

A couple of days later, Shayk also accompanied Cooper to The National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala, where they were photographed seated at dinner together.

February 2019: In early February, Shayk explained the couple’s need for privacy during an interview with Glamour UK.

“I have a lot of friends who share a lot of their personal life on Instagram or social media, very publicly,” she said. “I admire it and I think it’s great—but I think it’s all about personal choice.”

She added: “Because my work requires me to be out there, I just decided my personal life will be quiet. That’s why it’s called personal, because it’s something for you and your family, and I feel happy with it.”

Cooper has also explained why he prefers to keep his relationship with Shayk to himself. During a 2017 interview, Howard Stern asked the actor why he wouldn’t want to flaunt his model girlfriend to the world on red carpets.

“You’re right, it’s so great to take someone you’re with to a place where a hundred people are going to photograph you every step you make and ask you tons of questions, and then rip it apart the next day,” he replied. “No, no, no, no, no.”

Still, the couple’s romance seems to be going strong despite their hectic schedules. Shayk attended the Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards on February 2, and during Cooper’s acceptance speech at the BAFTAs on February 10, he thanked Shayk for “putting up with me.”

“I also need to thank Irina for putting up with me while I was trying to make music in our basement for a year,” he told the audience.

Later at the Oscars, the first hint of scandal emerges, although it is brushed away just as quickly.

Cooper performs “Shallow” with Lady Gaga during the ceremony, and their chemistry-filled duet sparks affair rumors. Both Shayk and Lady Gaga shut them down.

Shayk debunks them through her actions: She hugged Gaga during the show. And a source told Us Weekly days after that Shayk hadn’t been bothered by Cooper and Gaga’s big moment because she knew it was acting. “Irina knows that Bradley and Gaga are artists,” Us’s source said. “It’s a nonissue for her. They were in character putting on an Oscar performance.”

Gaga, meanwhile, tells Jimmy Kimmel that they really were just acting, and it was staged. “Yeah, people saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” she said. “I mean, this is a love song, ‘Shallow.’ The movie, A Star Is Born, it’s a love story. We worked so hard. We worked all week on that performance.”

April 2019: People reports that after his award season campaign, Cooper has been prioritizing spending time with his family. “Since the awards season ended, Bradley spends every day with his family,” the outlet’s source says. “Most days, Bradley and Irina take Lea out for activities together. Sometimes they just stroll on the beach. Bradley and Irina seem great.”

June 2019: Trouble really starts brewing as the month begins. Page Six is the first outlet to report that Cooper and Shayk are on the cusp of breaking up. “Because of their daughter, they keep trying,” a source says. “Things are not good. Neither one is happy. The relationship is hanging by a thread.”

Then The Sun, E!, and Us Weekly join in.

The Sun reports that Shayk has moved out of the home she and Cooper shared in Los Angeles. A source close to the couple tells the outlet that, “Things are cooling off between Bradley and Irina in a big way. They haven’t been good for a few months and Irina decided it would be best if she moved into her own place. It’s not looking like there’s much long left for the two of them together.”

E! reports that the two have been “questioning” their relationship for a while. “Things get a little bit better but then they find themselves back in the same place of questioning whether being a couple is what’s best,” E!’s source started. “They want to stay together for their daughter, but neither of them are very happy.”

“They’ve spent time apart to test the waters and see if they are better off,” the source continued. “They have a lot invested and it’s very difficult to completely walk away from. They are trying out different arrangements and trying to find their way. They love their little girl dearly and that’s not going to change no matter what.”

Us Weekly is told by a source that “they aren’t calling it quits yet, but they are not in a great place.” But significantly, the outlet reports a source said that Shayk and Cooper’s struggles have “nothing to do with Gaga.” A second source adds that “nothing romantic” happened between Gaga and Cooper when they played each other’s love interests in A Star Is Born.

Finally, People reports on June 6 that Cooper and Shayk are officially done. An insider tells the outlet that the two”are amicably working out how to share custody of their daughter Lea De Seine.”

August 2022: Irina Shayk shared some photos of a family vacation on Instagram, in which she and Cooper are enjoying each other’s company and the company of a bunch of feral pigs.

A source told Page Six, “It was a real family getaway and they are considering getting back together… She would like her daughter to have a sibling.”

The source continued, “They both [Bradley and Irina] haven’t gotten serious with anyone else and they are both into the idea of having a kid… It’s not Bennifer 2.0 where the other person is always in the back of their head, it’s more like, ‘why not?’ They have to deal with each other anyway since they are parents together. They are both thinking, maybe it’s time to finally really settle in.”

The two “get along well and enjoy each other’s company.”

During the previous year, Cooper had been linked to Huma Abedin, while Shayk enjoyed brief flings with Vito Schnabel and Kanye West.

November 2022: In early November, rumors of a reconciliation were stoked even higher by some paparazzi photos of the duo in NYC being described as full of “PDA.”

They are a little handsy in the photos, with Cooper wrapping an arm around Shayk, and Shayk having her hand on Cooper’s behind in one shot. Both their arms are wrapped around each other in another. You can see the photos here.

Later that month, a source told Page Six that Cooper is on board with making another baby together.

“He is on board to expand their family,” said a source. “They are trying to get pregnant.”

However, it seems “marriage is probably not on the table.”

The source added, “Bradley seems to have a European laissez-faire attitude towards the institution.”

Hermes goes for earthen tones; Ellie Saab revisits the ’60s

PARIS — A giant, glowing crystal rock upon a sand-colored carpet evoked a glamorous alien planet for Hermes’ champagne-sipping VIP guests.

Earthen hues like browns, reds and yellows — colors long-associated with the heritage brand — were used at Saturday’s show to create Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski’s utilitarian, low-key yet luxuriant universe for spring.

Elsewhere, Ukraine’s top fashion designers used the platform of Paris Fashion Week to promote their war-battered industry.

Here are some highlights of the day’s spring-summer 2023 collections in Paris:

    HERMES’ SUBTLE STRINGS

It was a Vanhee-Cybulski minimalist take on the 80s.

The lone pulsating crystal that glowed color from the center of the runway established the collection’s key idea: Simplicity is powerful.

As the show took off, the odd utilitarian features — such as toggles and the strange, perplexing box platform shoes that stomped throughout — were used with subtlety but aplomb.

It gave a sporty and outer-space feel to the collection’s stylish, almost empty, restraint — a mood that now defines the talented 44-year-old French designer’s repertoire.

Tan suede tunic minidresses sported beautiful, braided leather hems — showcased without jewelry on a makeup-less model. While, exposed midriffs latticed with cords and toggles came on otherwise unfussy slim silhouettes.

UKRAINE’S “GOOD SIX” DESIGNERS SHOW UNITED FRONT

Last season in Paris, the Ukrainian designers trade fair event took place just two days before Russia’s invasion amid stories of some artists fleeing the country so rapidly they had only their children and their collection in hand.

This season sees no improvement back home for the industry: It’s been battered by increased financial strains as designers try hard to maintain employed staff despite little money, a decrease in demand and ravished supply chains.

A collective of these designer-survivors is showing in Paris beginning Saturday until Oct.6.

Jen Sidary, the collective’s head, said “in my 30 years of working in the fashion industry, I have never witnessed the resilience of a country and its people as they began to focus on keeping their businesses alive, days into the war, from bomb shelters to designing new collections amidst constant air raid sirens.”

The six making up the Paris Fashion Week event — Frolov, Kachorovska, Chereshnivska, Litkovska, My Sleeping Gypsy and Oliz — are showcasing unisex apparel, footwear and scarves. It’s a bid to keep their ravaged industry alive, and form of resistance against the Russian bombs decimating their homeland.

Many of their colleagues back home in Ukraine have had to repurpose their operations to help the war effort, relocating within the country, according to Sidary.

The courage of the Ukraine fashion industry has drawn international attention.

USAID Project Manager Natalia Petrova spoke of the “remarkable resilience, commitment and awareness” of Ukrainian businesses since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Disruptions on the domestic market caused by decrease in demand by population and broken supply chains, are pushing companies to explore export opportunities to diversify their sales,” she added.

    ANDREAS KRONTHALER FOR VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

Kink mated with art in the typically quirky fare from Kronthaler — a staple show where a fashion surprise is all but expected.

With his usual encyclopedic flair, Kronthaler wove an aesthetic from yesteryear — medieval and renaissance nobles and peasants — into his drape-heavy silhouettes. Guests almost felt like they were at the theater.

Juliette sleeves mixed with black Renaissance tarbuds, decorated collars and even one wacky but stylish blue loose tuxedo look that could have been worn by the Bard himself. Of course, Kronthaler accessorized it anachronistically with pale blue striped rugby socks. Added to the creative cauldron were chunky Glam Rock boots and a Highlands kilt style with white trimming at the male model’s nether regions, making it look like they might have gotten a front bite.

The opening image of Irina Shayk, often voted among the most beautiful models in the world, in a shiny black bustier and silver-ring earrings riffing off S&M will surely be one picture few quickly forget.

    ELIE SAAB REVISITS THE 60s

The late 1960s got a facelift on Saturday in a collection that featured babydoll dresses, miniskirts, psychedelia, crop-tops and jabot collars — but never lost that floaty, contemporary Saab touch.

The first look from Saab at his Paris fashion show fused a 1960s angelic-white crop top and a maxi skirt with an ethnic look, thanks to a construction of interlocking motifs. This fusion of different eras continued throughout the show, which sent out 68 items.

Lace detailing was a big theme and became the front of a baggy pale tracksuit top. In an anachronism that defined this Saab spring aesthetic, it was worn alongside a sheer 1990s’ tulle skirt. It had a great swag and could have very well been seen at a music festival in that decade.

Flashes of Barbie pink and citrus contrasted with psychedelic stripes on column silhouettes, sometimes making it feel like Saab was trying to put too much in the mix. The collection was ultimately hard to pin down.
