    Ina Garten is the queen of the kitchen — in more ways than one. From food hacks to hosting tips and the best recipes, the television star has saved us in the kitchen more than once. Lucky for us, the cooking whiz has a new trick that will ensure you always have sharp knives on hand. While Garten mentions that she typically opts for knife blocks that hold the knives sideways, her suggestion for blocks that hold knives vertically will save your blades.

    As Garten demonstrates in a recent Instagram video, when you place your knife into a wooden knife block right side up, the blade scrapes against the wood as you slide the tool into place. So, the star flips the knife upside down so when it’s time to put the knife away, it will glide in without the cutting edge skimming the wood, ultimately saving the sharp side from extra abrasion.

    It’s crucial to have sharp blades in the kitchen to prevent any serious injury. When the blade is dull, you will have to provide more pressure to slice food, making it much easier for the knife to slip. While knives will inevitably dull down over time, this hack will increase the longevity of your tool before having to manually sharpen it. It’s recommended to sharpen your knives every couple of months, but you may just want to take notice of when your knife stops seamlessly gliding through your food — then you know it’s time.

    Commenters on the video were loving the trick and some even chimed in with their own suggestions. One user even recommended keeping your knives out of the dishwasher to extend their lifespan.

    Well, Garten has done it again, and we can’t wait to see what other tricks she has to share.

    How to Make Ina’s Butternut Squash Salad

    To start, preheat your oven to 400°. Peel and dice one 1 1/2 pound butternut squash into 3/4-inch cubes. Toss the cubes with 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Spread squash into an even layer on a rimmed baking sheet and roast, tossing once halfway through, until tender. This should take about 20 minutes; add 3 tablespoons of dried cranberries to the baking sheet 5 minutes before the squash is finished roasting.

    Meanwhile, make the warm apple vinaigrette. In a small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons minced shallot, 2 tablespoons cider vinegar, and 3/4 cup cider or apple juice. Bring mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then boil until reduced to about 1/4 cup. Off heat, whisk in 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.

    To assemble, place 4 ounces washed arugula into a large bowl. Add the roasted squash and cranberries, 1/2 cup toasted walnut halves, and 3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan. Add dressing to taste and season with salt and pepper before serving.

    My Honest Review of Ina’s Butternut Squash Salad

    Made with a collection of simple ingredients, I was surprised just how satisfying this salad was. Every flavor was nicely balanced against the others: acid from the dressing, brightness from the arugula, sweetness from the squash and cranberries, richness from the toasted nuts, and plenty of savory notes from the grated Parm. 

    The dressing alone was delicious, prominently featuring sweet apple flavor balanced with the tang of Dijon mustard. Spooning it over the dish warm makes for a distinctly wintery salad that feels welcoming on a blustery day.

    The mix of textures brings you back for bite after bite, and it’s pretty! It’s the perfect side for a dinner party, but it also makes for a great light lunch or dinner, and could easily be bulked up with a simply prepared protein like grilled chicken.

    Ina Garten has seemingly done it all. From gracing our TV screens to sharing the best recipes, kitchen tricks, and hacks on Instagram, there’s nothing the star and cookbook author can’t do. Luckily we’re about to learn even more about her: Ina’s memoir officially has a release date, according to her Instagram bio. 

    Yes, the rumors are true. The highly anticipated memoir is set to release October 1, 2024, and we couldn’t be more excited. The book will be published by Celadon Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers. “By finding a way to do what I love for a living — cooking — I’ve been fortunate to build a career that has not only been incredibly rewarding but has brought people together through the power of home cooking,” says Ina of the acquisition, according to a Celadon press release. “I hope my book will inspire readers to find their own unique story.”

    The kitchen whiz has been working on the book for the past few years and the status has been in limbo for a while, but a date is finally set. The memoir isn’t available for pre-order as of yet, but keep your eyes peeled, as we’re sure it’s coming soon.

    Commenters on an Instagram post by @caryneaves1 couldn’t contain their excitement. “I’m going to faint,” wrote one user. “Oh my gosh, this made my day!” said another.

    While we don’t know exactly what the memoir will entail yet, you can be sure you’re going to learn much more about Ina. We’ll hopefully get stories from her childhood, and about her work in the government prior to switching careers. As illustrated by the star’s story, dreams really do come true.

    In a recent interview with BBC News, Ina Garten welcomes viewers into her cozy East Hampton home to chat with Katty Kay about how she’s become one of the most respected people in the culinary world. The massively influential home cook has spent years inspiring those interested in cultivating their culinary capabilities, and has done so with an unmatched sense of style and grace. We all have our reasons as to how Ina Garten influenced our cooking, but we now have a little more insight into what inspires Garten to continue down her iconic culinary path. 

    Upon entering Garten’s impressively spacious “office” kitchen, which is completely separated from her actual home, Kay, who is enthralled by the high ceilings and ample space asks, “Is it a pleasure to cook in here still?”

    “Oh it’s just wonderful,” Garten exclaims, “I actually think good architecture makes you better at whatever you’re doing.” She continues to mention how upon walking in every day she thinks, “I can’t believe I get to work here; it just makes me show up more.”

    Before moving on with the interview, Kay takes notice of Garten’s massive cookbook collection, and questions if the culinary star still uses them to this day. “There’s so many great cookbooks, why not?” Garten poses her question before admitting that she still turns to her cookbooks for inspiration, as the books give her the ability to reference her favorite cooks before starting a recipe.

    It’s no secret that Ina Garten is absolutely a product of the people she looks up to, which totally explains the way she views herself. Rather than considering herself as a chef, Garten emphasizes that she is a “home cook.” As Kay goes on to question just how Garten became so incredibly influential, Garten reveals exactly what about her celebrity status gives her the most joy.

    “I love when I walk down the street and somebody leans in and says, ‘You taught me how to cook, thank you.’” Garten describes those moments as the precise thing that gives her life meaning that she never expected to have. 

    “I wrote a cookbook while thinking about what I was going to do next after Ina’s Special Made Food Store, I just didn’t have anything to do so I thought, ‘Well, I’ll write a cookbook while I figure it out.’” Garten recalls having no idea what she would be doing beyond that, but said that sometimes “it’s like you just have to jump in the pond and splash around because you never know where it will lead to.” Unbeknownst to Garten, it would lead to a place where, just like Julia Child who taught her how to cook, Garten is now able to teach other people how to cook as well. “It’s just a great pleasure,” she concluded.

    On the topic of children, Garten expressed that her and her husband Jeffrey’s decision not to have any was quite the difficult one. In response to Kay questioning whether she knew that she couldn’t do what she wanted to do if she had kids, Garten explains that it is much deeper than that. “I’m actually writing a memoir right now and it’s kind of looking back at my childhood.” Garten continues, “It was nothing I wanted to recreate.” Garten goes on to explain that she is “always looking forward to look back,” and realized that a lot of her decisions were based on her childhood and concluded that this was the ultimate reason why they decided not to have children. “Also, Jeffrey and I are just so happy together.”

    There is no denying the absolute love and dedication to her craft and the life that Ina Garten has grown to enjoy. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to learn from those you look up to, and it’s nice to know that Ina Garten looks up to her idols just as we look up to her.

    Ina provides another simple hack that will have you whipping up restaurant-style cakes (or muffins) in seconds.     Celebrity chef Ina Garten and her husband are still keeping things spicy after more than 50 years of marriage.

    The “Barefoot Contessa” star revealed on an episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show” set to air Monday that her husband Jeffrey accidentally sent a steamy text message meant for Garten to her publicist, according to multiple reports.

    “He does, and sometimes they go astray,” Garten said when Barrymore asked if her husband sends her romantic texts. “He sends them to the wrong person.”

    Jeffrey Garten meant to call his 74-year-old wife “delicious,” she said. But the lusty text mistakenly landed with her longtime publicist Kristina Felix.

    “My dear friend, who’s also my publicist — he sent a text to her, and he meant it for me. And he said, ‘You’re gonna be delicious tonight.’ And it went to her,” the food personality said. “She was like, ‘Woah.’ She sent back: ‘I don’t think this was meant for me.’”

    Garten said she didn’t know if the publicist “turned bright red,” as Barrymore put it, but “imagined so.”

    The Gartens tied the knot in December 1968. They haven’t shied away from showcasing their bond on Ina’s popular “Barefoot Contessa” series on the Food Network, where Jeffrey often appears. She titled her 2016 cookbook “Cooking for Jeffrey.”

    The couple is set to celebrate their 54th anniversary in December.
