  • Angus Cloud, Star of ‘Euphoria,’ Dies at 25

Angus Cloud, Star of ‘Euphoria,’ Dies at 25

    [ad_1]

Angus Cloud, the actor best known for playing soft-hearted drug dealer Fezco O’Neill on HBO’s Euphoria, has died at age 25, TMZ and Variety report

“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” Cloud’s family said in a statement to the outlets. “As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways. Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”

The statement continued, “We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone. We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss.”

For two seasons on HBO’s Emmy-winning teen drama series, Cloud brought Fezco—a trusted confidant to Zendaya’s Rue and promising love interest for Maude Apatow’s Lexi—to life. Production on a third season of the show had yet to begin at the time of Cloud’s death. “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family,” the network and show said in a joint statement on Instagram. “We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.”

Euphoria was Cloud’s very first acting credit. He was discovered walking down the street in Manhattan by a casting director for the show. Despite attending Oakland School of the Arts, he had no professional experience and was working at a restaurant in Brooklyn at the time.“Apparently, he was supposed to die in the first couple of episodes,” Cloud told The Hollywood Reporter of his character. Not only did creator Sam Levinson expand the role of Fezco, but also had him narrowly survive a shootout in the season two finale, which premiered last February.

Cloud had several projects on the horizon, including The Line alongside Alex Wolff, Austin Abrams, John Malkovich, and Scott McNairy; Freaky Tales opposite Pedro Pascal and Ben Mendelsohn; and an untitled Universal Pictures horror film from the directors of Scream 6.

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ Mom Reacts To Grammys In Memoriam Segment

    [ad_1]

The death of Stephen “tWitch” Boss “will never seem real,” his mother said after he was honored at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Connie Boss Alexander shared her reaction to the show’s in memoriam segment, which included the late dancer and “Ellen DeGeneres Show” DJ who died at age 40 in December.

“It will never seem real,” wrote Alexander in a since-expired Instagram Story with an image of the tribute, according to E! News. “I miss you! I love you to infinity and beyond. Keep shining bright for us!”

An image of Boss appeared on screen while Quavo and gospel choir Maverick City Music performed a rendition of Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” and “Without You,” which the Migos rapper released in tribute to his slain nephew, Takeoff.

They were honored alongside music icons including Loretta Lynn, Coolio, Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie and guitarist Jeff Beck with performances from Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Mick Fleetwood.

Quavo’s performance included an image of Boss and honored fellow Migos rapper Takeoff.

Alexander has publicly grieved her son since his death, including by thanking “family and friends” for their “love, prayers and encouragement” days after. She paid tribute to him again the following week, and wrote another heartbreaking Instagram post in January.

“There are no words expansive enough to describe the height of my love nor the depth of the loss of my first born,” she wrote. “I am so grateful God granted me the blessing and privilege of being his mother and…sharing in the journey that was his life.”

Boss was also remembered by his peers in the entertainment industry and other prominent figures, including his former boss Ellen DeGeneres, Justin Timberlake and Michelle Obama.

He is survived by his three children and wife Allison Holker, who shared her grief two days after he died by suicide.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” she told People. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him.”

Boss participated in photos for a limited-edition clothing collection shortly before he died. Holker said the resultant images “brought tears to our eyes” when they first received them. Boss “was so moved by how they captured his true essence,” she said later.

  • Lisa Marie Presley’s Daughters Will Inherit Graceland

Lisa Marie Presley’s Daughters Will Inherit Graceland

    [ad_1]

In the wake of Lisa Marie Presley’s sudden death last Thursday, her three daughters are set to inherit their grandfather’s legendary Memphis, Tennessee estate, Graceland.

A representative for the property confirmed to People that the late musician’s three surviving children will become the beneficiaries of the trust that holds Graceland. Lisa Marie had two children from her marriage to Danny Keough, 33-year-old Riley and Benjamin Keough, the latter of whom died by suicide at age 27 in July 2020. She then went on to marry Michael Lockwood in 2006, before ultimately splitting in 2016 and finalizing their divorce in 2021. The former couple shared 14-year-old twin girls, Harper and Finley.

Elvis Presley’s storied 120-acre home was passed down to his only daughter Lisa Marie following his death in 1977. The mansion is now open to tourists, hosting both various tours and overnight stays. According to the estate’s official website, Graceland was left to Lisa Marie in trust when she was just 9 years old. The trust officially dissolved in 1993 upon her 25th birthday when she took full ownership of the home. Following that trust’s dissolution, she formed The Elvis Presley Trust to help manage the property along with her mother, Priscilla Presley, and the National Bank of Commerce.

Lisa Marie died last Thursday at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center after experiencing a cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California, and just two days after attending the Golden Globes. She was 54 years old. Her mother Priscilla announced the sad news in a statement later that day, writing, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

The musician’s ex-husband also released a statement to the New York Post via his lawyer who said that Lockwood’s “world has been turned on its ear. He is with both of his daughters now.” Lisa Marie was also briefly married to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996 and Nicolas Cage from 2002 to 2004. Jackson’s estate shared a tribute to the late songwriter on Instagram following the news, writing, “We are saddened by the sudden tragic loss of Michael’s former wife, Lisa Marie Presley. Michael cherished the special bond they enjoyed and was comforted by Lisa Marie’s generous love, concern and care during their times together.” And Cage also released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter in which he wrote, “This is devastating news. Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken.” He added, “I find some solace believing she is reunited with her son Benjamin.”

My condolences to her loved ones and multitude of fans.” And Tom Hanks, one of the stars of the new Elvis bio-pic, wrote plainly on Instagram, “We are heartbroken over the loss of Lisa Marie Presley. Absolutely broken…”

  • Benedict XVI, the Pope Who Resigned, Dies at 95

Benedict XVI, the Pope Who Resigned, Dies at 95

    [ad_1]

Pope Benedict XVI, born Joseph Ratzinger, died on December 31 at the age of 95, according to the Vatican. No cause of death was released.

Ratzinger’s life was remarkable not just because he was elevated to the highest position in the Catholic Church, but also because he chose to leave it behind. After eight years as pope, from 2005 to 2013, Benedict XVI became the first to step down from the papacy in nearly 600 years. On Feb. 11, 2013, he renounced “the ministry of bishop of Rome, successor of St. Peter.” In Latin, he explained, “After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to advanced age, are no longer suited to adequately exercise the Petrine ministry.” The news stunned the world. “We could call him a revolutionary pope,” Vaticanist Fabio Marchese Ragona said, “because he made this choice with great humility, realizing that he no longer had the strength to carry on the pontificate. Now there is more easy talk of resignation: Benedict XVI has set out on a path that his successors can also take.”

A handful of other popes have relinquished their roles over the centuries, with varying results. In 1294, Celestine V, said that he longed to return to a more modest way of life—and was imprisoned until his death two years later, so that he wouldn’t pose a threat to his successor. As if that wasn’t severe enough, Dante, in The Inferno, consigned Celestine V’s soul to the entrance of hell, explaining that he had “due to cowardice made the great refusal.”

As for Benedict XVI, he made clear that his faith remained strong, saying of his departure: “The Lord is calling me to ‘go up the mountain,’ to devote myself even more to prayer and meditation, but this does not mean abandoning the Church; on the contrary, if God is asking me to do this it is precisely so that I can continue to serve her with the same dedication and love with which I have tried to do so until now, but in a way more suited to my age and strength.” After his resignation, he lived in the Vatican at Mater Ecclesiae Monastery, which has also been home to his personal secretary, Georg Gänswein, and four women from the lay association Memores Domini who have aided the pontiff emeritus in recent years.

If the world was shocked by Benedict’s decision, his biographers say that he himself was shocked that he’d ascended to the papacy at all.

Ratzinger was elected the 265th pope of the Catholic Church on April 19, 2005. His ministry followed John Paul II’s, with whom he had long collaborated while Ratzinger was a cardinal. The Polish pope and his German successor could not have seemed more different: John Paul II, born Karol Wojtyla, was a sportsman who traveled the world during his papacy. Benedict was a scholar with an affinity for cats and music—Mozart in particular, whose work he once said “contains all the tragedy of human existence.”

When installed as pope, he explained the significance of the name he had chosen: “I wanted to call myself Benedict XVI to ideally reconnect with the revered pontiff Benedict XV, who led the Church in a troubled period [during] the First World War. He was a courageous and authentic prophet of peace and worked with strenuous courage first to avoid the drama of war and then to limit its harmful consequences. In his footsteps, I wish to place my ministry at the service of reconciliation and harmony among men and peoples, deeply convinced that the great good of peace is first and foremost a gift from God.”

Benedict XVI was the son of a gendarmerie commissioner and a cook. He was born in Marktl am Inn, Bavaria in Germany on April 16, 1927. He had an older sister, Maria, and an older brother, Georg, who also became a priest. He spent his adolescence in Traunstein, and joined a preparatory seminary for priesthood in 1939. In 1941, he was required to enroll in the Hitler Youth. In 1943, along with his seminary classmates, he was drafted into the Nazi auxiliary anti-aircraft corps, then into the military proper. In 1945, he deserted his comrades and was captured by US troops and held as a prisoner of war in an internment camp in Germany for several months.

The future Benedict XVI was ordained a priest on June 29, 1951 and specialized in theology. He wrote his thesis on St. Augustine, and lectured widely. He participated in the Second Vatican Council and was appointed by Pope Paul VI as archbishop of Munich in 1977. On June 27 of the same year he became a cardinal. His episcopal motto was “Collaborator of truth.”

In 1978, Ratzinger participated in the conclaves for the election of Pope Luciani, who died after just 33 days as pope, then the election of Pope John Paul II the same year. Three years later, John Paul II appointed him prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the body of the Holy See responsible for overseeing the correctness of Catholic doctrine. He was chairman of the commission for the preparation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, deputy dean, and then later dean of the College of Cardinals.

Benedict XVI was an admired public speaker and a prolific writer. He wrote encyclicals on Christ as the embodiment of love and hope, as well as on the renewal of the Church’s social doctrine. Among his books is Jesus of Nazareth, which demonstrated his view that faith is not a list of prohibitions but rather a friendship with God. As pope, Benedict XVI supported the recovery of the liturgical tradition, including the Latin Mass. He was also the first pontiff to explicitly apologize to victims of sexual abuse by clerics and to meet with them several times.

  • Tina Turner Remembers “Beloved Son” Ronnie Turner, Dead at 62

Tina Turner Remembers “Beloved Son” Ronnie Turner, Dead at 62

    [ad_1]

Tina Turner is grieving the loss of her youngest biological son, Ronnie Turner.

Following the passing of her child at age 62 on Thursday, the 83-year-old music legend posted a black-and-white portrait of herself in mourning on Instagram. “Ronnie, you left the world far too early,” she wrote in the caption. “In sorrow, I close my eyes and think of you, my beloved son.” The actor’s cause of death is not yet known; however, he had suffered from various health issues over the years, including cancer.

According to TMZ, who first reported the story, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a 911 call in Encino, California, in which the caller said that Ronnie was having trouble breathing and, a few minutes later, stopped breathing entirely. Bystanders attempted CPR, but Turner was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics.

Ronnie’s wife of 15 years, French singer Afida Turner, was the first to confirm the news of his death in a post on Instagram, calling him “a true angel” and her “best friend.” She wrote, “I did the best to the end this time I was no[t] able to save you. Love you for this 17 years this is very very very bad and I am very mad.” The singer added, “This is a tragedy u with your brother Craig and your father Ike Turner and Aline rest in paradise. So unfair!”

Afida was referring to the death of Ronnie’s older brother Craig, who died by suicide in 2018, his father, who died in 2007, and Tina’s sister Alline Bullock, who died in 2010.

In a December 2020 interview, Turner spoke to Vanity Fair about the difficult road she’s had both personally and professionally, and how she got through it all. “There have been many adverse circumstances that could have destroyed me. But instead, I used them as stepping stones on my journey upward,” she said.

“This transformational process is called ‘changing poison into medicine.’ It’s an ancient concept that has become the hope-filled theme of my life. Simply put, it means that whenever some negativity, or a ‘poison,’ arises, we have the power within ourselves to find the hidden value in it, and to transform it into something beneficial, into a ‘medicine.’ In every crisis, frustration, or disaster is also the potential to learn, to grow, and to propel ourselves toward greater heights of wisdom and fulfillment than ever before.”

Turner’s son made a cameo in the 1993 movie, What’s Love Got to Do With It, starring Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne as Ike, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Tina also has two adopted sons, Michael and Ike Jr., who were fathered by Ike.
