  • Brad Pitt wins court ruling forcing Angelina Jolie to reveal private texts

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Brad Pitt might have uncovered a “smoking gun” in the long-running legal fight against his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie.

Fox News Digital can confirm a judge recently ruled in Pitt’s favor, forcing Jolie to turn over 22 previously undisclosed documents. The docs reportedly contain Jolie’s private text messages and emails, which could be damaging to the “Maleficent” star’s case.

Pitt first sued Jolie over the sale of her stake in Château Miraval in 2022 after the actress sold her stake to a subsidiary of the Stoli Group. Jolie attempted to sell her company, Nouvel, to Tenute Del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in 2021, effectively transferring her 50% ownership interest in Miraval. Pitt has fought this sale, claiming the move breached a contract between the two.

The previously undisclosed documents, including Jolie’s private text messages, could be “outcome-changing or even outcome-determinative” to Pitt’s case against the actress, legal experts told Fox News Digital.

“I cannot imagine a scenario where Jolie’s team would fight this battle based on a long-shot argument if the documents were not helpful to Brad’s case,” Brett Ward, a partner in Blank Rome’s Matrimonial and Family Law Group, explained to Fox News Digital.

“Generally speaking, the bigger the effort to protect documents, the more important they are. So, given Jolie’s significant effort to protect them, I would expect that these texts and emails weaken Jolie’s position in the case, perhaps fatally.”

While the discovery ruling is very common, entertainment lawyer Tre Lovell noted it could be a big win for Pitt.

“The parties to litigation have disputes all the time as to what documents must be produced, what questions must be answered and what discovery responses need to be addressed as opposed to pure objections,” he explained to Fox News Digital. “Obviously, these documents are believed to be very damning against Jolie due to the extent and effort her attorneys expended to avoid producing them. It appears to be a big win for Pitt.”

Jolie’s legal team had argued the undisclosed documents were protected by non-disclosure agreements. However, Pitt’s team insisted the messages were unprotected conversations between Jolie and her personal aides.

Jolie’s private text messages could expose the actress, or they could never see the light of day.

“With regard to whether or not the text messages become public, that is really up to Brad Pitt,” Patrick Baghdaserians, a family law attorney, told Fox News Digital. “Generally speaking with discovery motions, the documents that are ordered to be produced are not made a part of the record unless somebody files them with the court or presents it as evidence during a public trial.”

“The overall impact on this case will depend on what is contained in those documents that were improperly withheld,” he explained. “These documents may be the proverbial smoking gun to undermine Angelina Jolie’s case.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Pitt and Jolie’s representatives for comment.

With Jolie now being forced to hand over the documents, legal experts told Fox News Digital the ruling could even bring the case to an abrupt end before the most sensitive material is disclosed.

“There is also a chance that, if the texts and emails are very detrimental to Jolie’s case, it might push the case to resolution before the texts and emails are even turned over,” Baghdaserians claimed.

Pitt and Jolie bought a controlling stake in Château Miraval in 2008 and spent time at the home throughout their relationship. After Pitt sued Jolie, the actress’ company accused the actor of running a “vindictive campaign” to “loot” the profitable business since she first filed for divorce in 2016.

Nouvel accused Pitt of “hijacking” Château Miraval and “wasting” the company’s assets on unnecessary renovation projects, including spending $1 million on swimming pool renovations, according to court documents previously obtained by Fox News Digital.

Pitt and Jolie are expected to face off in court over the winery dispute in 2027.

  • Blake Lively branded ‘f—ing terrorist’ by Sony boss amid ‘It Ends With Us’ turmoil

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A senior Sony executive involved in the making of “It Ends With Us” had harsh words about Blake Lively.

Andrea “Ange” Giannetti admitted she called Lively a “f—ing terrorist” as the working relationship between the actress and director Justin Baldoni reportedly broke down while filming the romantic drama in 2023. In her deposition, obtained by Fox News Digital, Giannetti described a five-hour meeting in which Lively demanded specific requirements be agreed upon before she would return to work on the film.

At this point, Lively had expressed concern about Baldoni’s allegedly inappropriate behavior while filming “It Ends With Us.”

Giannetti claimed the 17-point list of protections Lively put forth was agreed to “because there was a tremendous amount of money that had been invested and spent, and we had to finish the movie or it was unreleasable.”

“Did Blake Lively threaten to leave the movie if the 17-point list wasn’t signed without alteration or revision?” Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, asked during the Sept. 23 deposition.

    “That’s my understanding,” Giannetti responded.

Freedman asked, “Do you recall telling Jamey Heath that you thought Blake was a ‘f—ing terrorist’?”

    “Yes,” she answered.

Much of Giannetti’s deposition focused on the sexual harassment claims made by Lively against Baldoni and the film’s producer, Jamey Heath. The Sony executive claimed she only knew of three allegedly uncomfortable incidents that had occurred during filming — a video shown to Lively, an encounter inside Lively’s trailer, and comments made to a cast member about her appearance.

Despite Lively’s characterization of the allegations as sexual harassment, the Sony executive insisted the behavior didn’t warrant HR intervention.

Ange Giannett: “I thought it was a s— show, and there was – those incidents alone were not reason to call HR for a movie that we were cofinancing and distributing.”

Esra Hudson: “How many women on a set have to be uncomfortable before you think it rises to the level of calling HR?

Ange Gianetti: “They didn’t like him.”

Esra Hudson: “What do you mean by that?”

Ange Giannetti: “They didn’t like him.”

Esra Hudson: “So you discounted their views on him?”

Ange Giannetti: “I heard of three incidents. You can ask me this a hundred times, I’m going to tell you the three incidents I know over and over again. The video, I saw the video. The trailer, we had a meeting in the trailer. It was resolved. And the director called Jenny Slate ‘hot’ in front of 300 people on set. Those were the three incidents. No, I did not think there was reason to call HR.”

In her own deposition, Lively discussed another meeting held with Baldoni, Heath and the film’s producer, Alex Saks, where she brought up the alleged incidents that had occurred on the film set. Baldoni’s lawyer repeatedly questioned why Lively didn’t classify the encounters as “sexual harassment” during the meeting, instead choosing to refer to them as “HR claims.”

“I don’t know what words I used because I wasn’t planning on addressing the HR issues with them directly in my trailer with Alex Saks in that moment,” Lively said during the July 31 deposition. “But I did express real concern for the things that had occurred thus far, including Jamey entering my trailer when I was naked from the waist up.”

Lively detailed exactly what was discussed with Baldoni, Heath and Saks during the meeting.

“I remember discussing the video that Jamey showed me. I remember discussing the – Jamey entering my trailer. And I remember – I don’t know if I told him this or if this is another thing that Ange shared, but how bad it felt for him to tell me personally that I felt sex – that I looked sexy and that I looked hot, and that I was also disturbed by the way that I understood Jenny to be feeling and experiences I’d seen with her.”

Despite using the term “HR claims” at the meeting, Lively claimed the actions she was describing were “pretty obviously sexual harassment.”

The “Age of Adaline” star accused Baldoni of sexual harassment while filming “It Ends With Us.” However, Baldoni insisted Lively had “falsely” accused him in an attempt to repair her reputation following fallout from the movie’s press tour after she allegedly took control of the film.

Baldoni, in his own lawsuit filed in January 2025, insisted that Lively had “falsely” accused him in an attempt to repair her reputation following the fallout of the movie’s press tour after the actress took control of the film.

His lawsuit has since been dismissed.

  • Teen mass killer pleads guilty to NC rampage that left five dead, including brother, police officer

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

An 18-year-old admitted Wednesday to carrying out a 2022 mass shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina, which killed five people – including his older brother and a police officer – pleading guilty to murder and multiple other charges just days before trial.

The Associated Press reported that Austin David Thompson pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree murder, two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of assaulting an officer with a gun.

Thompson was 15 when prosecutors say he opened fire in his Raleigh neighborhood, killing Thompson’s brother James Thompson, along with 52-year-old Nicole Connors, 29-year-old Raleigh police officer Gabriel Torres, 34-year-old Mary Marshall and 49-year-old Susan Karnatz. He had been scheduled to face a state murder trial later this month before changing his plea.

Thompson’s lawyers announced Tuesday that he would plead guilty to all charges after months of pretrial motions seeking to restrict what evidence and testimony prosecutors could present. In court filings, his attorneys said avoiding a trial would “save the community and the victims from as much additional infliction of trauma as possible.”

Wearing a quarter-zip sweater and slacks, Thompson offered few words as Wake County Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway questioned him and formally accepted the guilty pleas.

Ridgeway scheduled sentencing for Feb. 2, a hearing expected to span several days. Thompson and his attorney confirmed no plea deal was reached with prosecutors.

Because Thompson was a minor at the time of the shootings, he is not eligible for the death penalty. Ridgeway could impose life sentences without parole, though state law also allows for sentences that make him eligible for parole after at least 25 years. A recent ruling by state appeals judges capped the amount of time juvenile offenders must serve before becoming eligible for parole at 40 years.

The case was delayed while Thompson recovered from a gunshot wound that Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman has said was self-inflicted before his arrest, an injury his attorneys contend caused significant brain damage.

In court, Assistant District Attorney Patrick Latour outlined the evidence prosecutors would have presented at trial, describing the sequence of events on Oct. 13, 2022.

Latour said Thompson first shot and then repeatedly stabbed James inside the family’s home in the Hedingham neighborhood. Prosecutors said Thompson then moved through the neighborhood armed with a shotgun and a handgun, killing Connors and then Torres. Another neighbor was wounded and survived.

Authorities said Thompson later continued the attack on a nearby greenway trail, where he fatally shot Marshall and Karnatz.

Police said officers eventually located Thompson near McConnell Oliver Drive, where he opened fire, wounding Raleigh Police Officer Casey Clark. Multiple officers returned fire, discharging about 23 rounds before Thompson was placed in handcuffs.

“At the time, he was wearing camouflage clothing and a backpack, and a handgun was in his waistband. The backpack contained various items, including several types of shotgun/rifle ammunition. A sheath for a large knife was found clipped to his belt, and a large hunting knife was found at the front of the outbuilding. A shotgun and shotgun shells were lying on the ground near him,” Raleigh Police Chief Estella D. Patterson said in a report at the time.

Wednesday’s hearing offered few new details about Thompson’s motive. His attorneys wrote this week that a brain injury suffered during the case has left him unable to explain why he carried out the shootings.

Latour said a note written by Thompson addressed why he killed his brother, but the contents were not disclosed in court and were ordered sealed. Latour also said investigators recovered records showing Thompson searched online for information about mass shootings and related topics, evidence the defense said could be challenged at sentencing.

Robert Steele, the fiancé of Marshall, said after the hearing that Thompson should be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

“That’s justice,” Steele said. “He took five people’s lives; he tried to take two others.”

In 2024, Thompson’s father pleaded guilty to improperly storing a handgun authorities said was found with his son after the attack and received a suspended sentence and probation.

Investigators also seized 11 firearms and 160 boxes of ammunition – some of them empty – from the Thompson home, according to search warrants. Latour said Thompson and his family were avid hunters.

  • Nick Reiner losing powerhouse defense attorney may come down to money, experts say

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Nick Reiner’s powerhouse defense lawyer, Alan Jackson, had “no choice” but to withdraw from the case Wednesday during what was supposed to be Nick’s first arraignment of the year.

Jackson cited circumstances beyond his and Nick’s control as to why he abruptly stepped down from defending Nick against the double murder charges in the stabbing deaths of Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner.

“Circumstances beyond our control, but more importantly, circumstances beyond Nick’s control have dictated that,” Jackson said during a press conference outside the courthouse. “Sadly, it’s made it impossible for us to continue our representation of Nick. I’m legally, and I’m ethically prohibited from explaining all the reasons why.”

Criminal defense attorney and Fox News contributor Joshua Ritter believed that Jackson’s hasty withdrawal from the case indicated money issues.

“It sounds like it was simply a mutual parting over a lack of ability to retain a private attorney and, therefore, his only option was that he was left with a public defender,” Ritter told Fox News Digital.

Outside the courthouse, Jackson remained adamant that Nick was “not guilty” of murdering his parents.

“We’ve investigated this matter top to bottom, back to front,” Jackson said. “What we’ve learned – and you can take this to the bank – is that pursuant to the laws of this state, pursuant to the law in California, Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.”

Jackson arrived at the Reiner home less than 24 hours after the couple’s bodies were discovered. Soon after, he signed on to represent Nick.

Jackson famously defended Karen Read, who was accused of hitting her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, with her car and leaving him to die during a snowstorm. She maintained her innocence throughout two criminal trials, the first ending in a hung jury, before ultimately being found not guilty of murder and manslaughter in the second.

“Sometimes, in these situations, you have to kind of move quickly if you want a lawyer at that first hearing because you only have 48 hours before they’re brought into court,” Ritter said. “So it’s not entirely uncommon that attorneys and clients may come to an agreement on paper, but not exactly the transfer of funds before an attorney will appear in court.”

Seth J. Zuckerman, celebrity criminal defense attorney and founder of Zuckerman Legal Group, and former NYC prosecutor, told Fox News Digital, “It is likely that whoever paid the initial retainer on Nick Reiner’s behalf is unwilling to continue to fund the defense. There may be other issues at play, but we will never know, as Jackson has an ethical responsibility not to disclose.”

Zuckerman noted the three reasons a criminal defense attorney would step down from a case, which included financial issues, conflict of interest or conflict with the client on strategy.

ROB REINER, WIFE MICHELE’S MURDER CASE LIKELY HINGES ON SON’S MENTAL COMPETENCY: EXPERTS

“If Jackson is claiming circumstances beyond Nick’s control have dictated his withdrawal, then we can rule out number three,” Zuckerman said.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani agreed that money – or the lack thereof – was most likely the reason Jackson stepped down.

“In the business, we say Mr. Green didn’t show up. Nick can’t pay Jackson. It would be a seven-figure retainer, and he doesn’t have the money. If he did, why would he be living in his parents’ guest house? Maybe his siblings considered paying Jackson but changed their mind.”

He added, “The other possibility is that they disagreed on case strategy. But then another private retained attorney would substitute in and not the public defender’s office. Nick has a chance, but not a good one. Jackson or a public defender will have the same problems with the case.”

Rahmani also explained how under California’s slayer rule, a child who kills their parents cannot inherit from their estate.

Michele Reiner, Rob Reiner, Nick Reiner

“That means they can’t take under a will, trust, life insurance, or act as any other kind of beneficiary,” Rahmani said. “The law presumes the killer predeceased their parents.  A murder conviction in criminal court is enough to trigger the rule. A probate judge can also apply it. Nontraditional assets like intellectual property may be held in separate LLCs or trusts, by the analysis is the same. The murderous heir won’t inherit as a matter of law.”

The 32-year-old was charged in December with two counts of first-degree murder, and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Kimberly Greene, the deputy public defender assigned to the case, spoke briefly with Nick Wednesday morning. “He was understanding that there was going to be a change in counsel,” she said. “We haven’t had any in-depth conversations.”

Ritter insisted that the public defender’s office is “well qualified” to handle Nick’s case.

“They handle these types of cases all the time, and they also have the resources to hire … they have investigators who can work on their behalf,” Ritter said. “I’m not trying to take anything away from whatever representation Alan Jackson may have done on his behalf, but I don’t think that this is somehow devastating to his chances.”

A spokesman for the Reiner family told Fox News Digital, “They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”

  • Nick Reiner removed from suicide watch ahead of arraignment in parents’ deaths: report

Nick Reiner, the youngest son of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday and may enter a plea in his first courtroom appearance of the year.

The 32-year-old remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility after formally being charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents.

Sources told People magazine that Nick was removed from suicide watch earlier this week and is being held in solitary confinement where he is required to wear a yellow jail-issued shirt and blue pants.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Reiner’s attorney and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for comment.

During his first courtroom appearance, Reiner wore a blue suicide prevention vest. When the judge asked if Reiner waived his rights, Nick said, “Yes, your honor.”

No decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.

“There may also be a ‘heat of passion’ defense in which the defense argues Nick experienced an uncontrollable rage as a result of an argument, and did not have time to cool off prior to, or premeditate, the killing, thus arguing for manslaughter as opposed to murder.”

“His mental health and substance abuse will factor heavily into the defense strategy …”

    — Seth J. Zuckerman

Zuckerman added: “The prosecution will evaluate the evidence, including but not limited to physical and forensic evidence of both the home where they were killed and the hotel where Nick Reiner was staying, witness statements, video surveillance, cell phone evidence about prior arguments with his parents, and whether Nick made any statements to the police when he was arrested.”

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Dec. 14. Multiple agencies worked to find and arrest Nick, 32, who was apprehended near the University of Southern California at approximately 9:15 p.m., hours after his parents’ bodies were discovered.

The following day, Jake and Romy Reiner broke their silence on their parents’ deaths.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends,” they told People.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Shortly after his arrest, Nick retained renowned attorney Alan Jackson to lead his defense.

Rob and Michele’s death certificates were released just before Christmas on Dec. 23.

According to the death certificates obtained by Fox News Digital from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department, the couple were cremated at Mount Sinai Mortuary.

The certificates also confirmed what was previously revealed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office: that the Reiners died due to multiple sharp force injuries. The certificates stated the injuries were caused “with knife, by another.”

One week later, the medical examiner removed the death reports due to a sealed court order initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department.

“While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available. No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice,” the press release stated, noting that a “security hold” has been placed for the time being.

Following the court order, LAPD told Fox News Digital, “The order was sought only to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public. The order was not sought to undermine transparency.”

  • Will Smith sued for sexual harassment, accused of ‘deliberately grooming’ tour violinist

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Will Smith was accused of sexual harassment by Brian King Joseph in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles just before the new year, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Joseph, a professional violinist, alleges Smith was “deliberately grooming and priming Mr. Joseph for further sexual exploitation” in the complaint against the Academy Award-winning actor and associates with his Treyball Studios Management, Inc.

After his first performance with Smith in December 2024, the “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” singer allegedly hired Joseph to join his “Based on a True Story: 2025 Tour.”

Joseph claimed their “relationship grew even closer” after Smith offered him a chance to play on several tracks of the rapper’s upcoming album.

“Smith and Plaintiff began spending additional time alone, with Smith even telling Plaintiff that ‘You and I have such a special connection, that I don’t have with anyone else,’ and other similar expressions indicating his closeness to Plaintiff,” documents state.

Joseph allegedly joined the first leg of the tour in March 2025 in Las Vegas, where he was provided a hotel room booked by Smith and his team. He claimed “no other individuals besides … the crew and hotel staff would have had access” to his personal room.

The violinist, who competed on “America’s Got Talent” in 2018, claimed to place his room key in his bag, which was left in a van responsible for transporting the cast and crew around. After a rehearsal at the venue, management allegedly spent hours retrieving the bag.

When Joseph returned to his hotel room later that evening, he claimed to have “discovered evidence suggesting that an unknown person had unlawfully entered the room.” Joseph subsequently called hotel security.

“The evidence included a handwritten note addressed to Plaintiff by name, which read ‘Brian, I’ll be back no later [sic] 5:30, just us (drawn heart), Stone F,’” the lawsuit states. “Among the remaining belongings were wipes, a beer bottle, a red backpack, a bottle of HIV medication with another individual’s name, an earring, and hospital discharge paperwork belonging to a person unbeknownst to Plaintiff.”

Joseph feared that an unknown individual would return to his room to engage in sexual acts, documents said, and he “immediately notified hotel security and representatives for Defendant, obtained photo documentation, requested a room change, and called the local non-emergency police line (311) to report the incident.”

Days later, Joseph claims, Smith’s team began “blaming” him for the incident.

“Rather than being protected against further assault, and for attempting to understanding Plaintiff’s complaint, Plaintiff was shamed by Defendant and told that he was being terminated,” the complaint stated.

“When Plaintiff requested … further reasoning, Tim Miller, acting on behalf of Defendants, redirected the blame for the termination onto Plaintiff, replying, ‘I don’t know, you tell me, because everyone is telling me that what happened to you is a lie, nothing happened, and you made the whole thing up. So, tell me, why did you lie and make this up?’”

Joseph, at the request of Miller, compiled a timeline “to explain the traumatic series of events that occurred that evening.”

“However, following Plaintiff’s report and termination, Defendant hired another violinist to assume the same position on the tour,” documents stated. “This hiring strongly suggested that Defendant’s stated reason for the termination was pretextual.”

“The facts strongly suggest that Defendant Willard Carroll Smith II was deliberately grooming and priming Mr. Joseph for further sexual exploitation. The sequence of events, Smith’s prior statements to Plaintiff, and the circumstances of the hotel intrusion all point to a pattern of predatory behavior rather than an isolated incident,” the lawsuit states.

  • Judge orders Denise Richards, estranged husband evicted from luxury home after $84K rent dispute

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A judge quietly ordered the eviction of reality TV star Denise Richards and her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, from their California home after the two failed to respond to their landlord’s lawsuit.

Landlord John Karan sued the estranged couple in November, accusing the pair of failing to pay $84,000 in rent.

Richards and Phypers lost their Calabasas home in the simplest way possible – by not showing up. Richards and Phypers were properly served but failed to answer or appear within the legal deadline, leading the court to award exclusive possession of the home to Karan.

According to the lawsuit, the couple was seven months behind on payments for a luxury Calabasas home they leased in 2020. Phypers and Richards signed a lease for the six-bedroom, 6,985-square-foot home for $12,000 a month.

Karan initially asked the judge to evict the former couple and order daily damages of $400 until the home was vacated and the keys were returned.

Richards has not lived at the property since 2023, after moving into her own residence.

However, the reality TV star reportedly continued to pay the bills while Phypers and his family remained in the home.

Phypers has allegedly been begging friends for money as he attempts to navigate the financial distress. “My financial situation gets worse by the day,” he wrote in the documents filed in his divorce from Richards. “My pickup truck, which is now my only vehicle, is subject to repossession. I am in danger of eviction at any time. I am begging friends for money to have food to eat.”

Richards and Phypers have been locked in their own legal battle as the pair are on their way to finalizing a divorce. Phypers filed for divorce from Richards on July 7. He cited irreconcilable differences and is seeking spousal support from the “Real Housewives” star. Ten days later, Richards’ initial request for a temporary restraining order was granted.

The “Melrose Place” star’s request for a permanent restraining order was granted in November.

The permanent restraining order expires on Nov. 7, 2030. Richards requested the permanent restraining order against her estranged husband after he allegedly shared private text messages and photos of the former “Real Housewives” star online.

“It’s pretty classic domestic violence from my perspective,” the judge said while handing down the ruling. “I think that it’s really pretty clear that you can’t take private things and throw them out into the world like that without potential consequences. There can’t possibly be a defense that her peace can’t be disturbed because she had an OF page and did Playboy. That’s not a defense.”

Rob and Michele Reiner’s bodies were returned to their family Friday, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed to Fox News Digital.

  • Rob Reiner, wife Michele’s murder case likely hinges on son’s mental competency: experts

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

As new developments emerge following the horrific deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, questions continue to surface about the double-homicide investigation and what’s next for their son, suspected killer Nick Reiner — who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced the charges Tuesday during a press conference with LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell.

“These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders,” Hochman said. “He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife. These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.”

No decision has been made on whether they’ll seek the death penalty.

On Sunday, Nick, was arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents, who were found dead inside their Brentwood, Calif., home just hours after allegedly getting into a verbal altercation with their son at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before. Nick was located and taken into custody at approximately 9:15 p.m. near the University of Southern California campus.

The 32-year-old was initially booked on $4 million bail, but records now show he is being held without bail. On Monday, he was transferred to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department.

Though he was expected to appear in court on Tuesday, Nick was “not medically cleared” to do so, his lawyer, Alan Jackson, confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer Daniel Rubin told Fox News Digital that Nick’s defense strategy will depend on a number of things — including his mental competency.

“His defense strategy will depend on a number of factors: the weight and admissibility of any collected evidence, the testimony of any witnesses, events leading up to the deaths, the defendant’s mental health issues, and any possible mitigating factors,” said Rubin.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG EULOGIZES ROB REINER AS ‘STANDUP GUY’ FOLLOWING DIRECTOR’S DEATH

“If he is mentally incompetent, he will be ordered to be assessed for ‘competency’ and he will need to be evaluated by specialists to ascertain his mental competency,” Rubin continued. “If he is found ‘incompetent,’ he will need to be medicated or treated to the point where he will be able to assist in his own defense and understand the proceedings. That could take several weeks to several months.”

“That the defendant wasn’t medically cleared to appear [in court] could be evidence of an injury, a mental health issue, some other illness, or some other physical limitation on his being brought to court,” he added.

His defense team could request a psychiatric evaluation, according to former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani.

“The defense may ask for a psychiatric evaluation to argue not guilty by reason of insanity,” Rahmani told Fox News Digital. “But for that, you have to be unable to know right from wrong. If you’re capable enough to have an argument with your parents at a Christmas party, you are not insane.”

ROB REINER REMEMBERED: ‘ALL IN THE FAMILY’ STAR DEAD AT 78

“Insanity requires a psychosis, schizophrenia, or something similar such that Nick doesn’t even know he’s killing his parents,” the West Coast Trial Lawyers founder continued. “He thinks, for example, they are aliens, demons, or that God is commanding him to do something.”

“If you are coherent enough to have an argument with your parents, and you’re disagreeing on something, that’s not an insanity defense,” the attorney added.

    As far as what’s next?

Celebrity divorce attorney Christopher Melcher, partner at Walzer Melcher & Yoda LLP told Fox News Digital that Nick might enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

“Nick might enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity at some stage in the proceeding, so prosecutors will want to obtain evidence to determine if that defense is viable,” said Melcher. “For a NGI [not guilty by reason of insanity] plea, Nick must prove that he had a mental health disorder that made him incapable of understanding the nature and quality of his act, or from understanding that is act was morally and legally wrong. It would be Nick’s burden to show those elements by a preponderance of the evidence, meaning that it is more likely than not that his NGI defense is true.”

2 PEOPLE FOUND DEAD INSIDE HOME OF HOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR ROB REINER IN AFFLUENT LOS ANGELES NEIGHBORHOOD

“First, there would be a trial on whether he committed the crime and, if he is found to have committed the crime, then there would be the insanity phase,” he continued. “Nick would be committed to a mental hospital if the jury found that he was not guilty by reason of insanity.”

“Drug abuse or being under the influence of drugs, by itself, does not qualify as legal insanity,” he added.

The night before the murders, family friends of the Reiners told the Los Angeles Times that Nick got into an argument with his parents at O’Brien’s Christmas party. Many people noticed Nick was behaving strangely, according to the outlet.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” a source also told People magazine.

Per TMZ, after Rob and Nick got into a “very loud argument,” the director and Michele left the party.

Nick reportedly also got into a tiff with comedian and actor Bill Hader at the same party. A representative for Hader had no comment when reached by Fox News Digital.

From addiction struggles to violent outbursts, Nick has had his share of battles throughout the years.

Nick had allegedly been to rehab 18 times by the time he turned 22, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nick allegedly told the THR journalist Steven Zeitchik that rehab hadn’t worked for him. “I just couldn’t get by in these programs. I had resistance every time they tried to reach me,” he said, according to Zeitchik.

“The program works for some people, but it can’t work for everybody,” Rob told Zeitchik at the time. “When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. • Rick Pitino says he reached out to Terry Rozier to ‘be of any help’ after gambling indictment

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Terry Rozier’s college coach, Rick Pitino, reached out to his former player after Rozier was indicted in an illegal gambling case.

Pitino, who coached Rozier at Louisville, said he was “shocked” at the news of Rozier’s alleged involvement and arrest “because Terry makes $22 million a year.”

“It’s not like him,” Pitino told OutKick’s Dan Dakich.

Rozier is facing charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

“I love Terry. I texted him, ‘Terry, if I can be of any help. I love you, son. If there’s anything I can do to help you, please get a hold of me.’ I don’t know what’s going on with him there. It doesn’t sound like a person making $22 million is worried about a prop bet. That doesn’t make any sense to me at all.”

Rozier’s charges stem from a game in which he played less than 10 minutes, citing a foot injury. Multiple bettors placed high-stakes wagers on Rozier to perform poorly before the game, all of which won.

Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, admitted Rozier “told a friend” he would take himself out of a game early, which is “not a crime.”

Neither Hornets officials nor betting companies were made aware of Rozier’s plan, according to the indictment, and Rozier was not listed on the team’s injury report.

After Rozier played just nine minutes and never returned, the bets won. Rozier and his friend, Deniro Laster, counted cash winnings at Rozier’s home in Charlotte roughly a week later, the indictment says.

When asked if Rozier gave inside information for the purpose of illegal betting, Trusty said the answer was an “absolute not. Never happened.”

Rozier was placed on immediate leave from the Miami Heat, the NBA announced shortly after the arrest, “and we will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities.”

  • Sia’s estranged husband denied sole custody of son after he accused musician of drug abuse in emergency order

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A judge denied Sia’s estranged husband an emergency custody request for their 19-month-old son Somersault (Summi) as part of their ongoing divorce, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Dr. Daniel Bernad filed the request earlier this week, asking the court to grant him “sole legal and physical custody” of their son due to the “Chandelier” singer’s alleged “reckless” conduct. He also accused Sia of being “an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction.”

The musician fired back that Summi never spent more than “two hours in Dan’s presence” without Sia and claimed the initial “restrictive, agreed-upon arrangements” established in August for their son were due to Bernad’s involvement in an investigation regarding alleged “illicit child pornography found on his computer hard drive.”

In Bernad’s emergency request, the oncologist claimed his estranged wife deliberately and repeatedly concealed “that she was hospitalized for two weeks in September” during a time when she was supposed to be in Italy with their son.

“She tested positive for barbiturates and benzodiazepines, with no legitimate medical explanation,” he claimed. “She unilaterally and unlawfully transferred written power of attorney over Summi to her nannies in direct violation of our joint legal custody agreement.”

He alleged, “Sia is an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction, rendering her incapable of providing safe or stable care for Summi. I am the only safe and reliable parent for our son. I am a doctor, young, healthy, and have no criminal history or drug or alcohol addiction issues. I request that the Court grant my Ex Parte to protect Summi from further harm and to guarantee that he is safe, secure and properly cared for.”

Bernad claimed he witnessed Sia abuse “ketamine and other drugs” during their relationship. She allegedly purchased $20,000 worth of ketamine during a trip to Egypt and claimed she was “too famous and rich to ever get arrested.”

In another alleged incident, Bernad claimed he discovered Sia on the ground in her bedroom with “approximately $15,000 of ketamine in her pockets.”

The doctor also asked for more than $77,000 per month in child support and for Sia to be fiscally responsible for all childcare costs.

In a response filed to her estranged husband’s request, the “Unstoppable” singer claimed she’s been sober for over six months and has “repeatedly agreed to drug testing.”

Sia filed for divorce from Bernad in March after two years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“Since filing the Petition in March 2025, Sia has paid Dan approximately $300,000 including $100,000 in May, $50,000 per month since August, and covering five months of his hotel accommodations and psychotherapy and other expenses,” she wrote.

“Dan’s attempt to weaponize my past sobriety journey – an issue long resolved and well-documented – serves no legitimate purpose and is intended only to distort the facts and undermine my credibility before this Court. His willingness to dredge up decades-old history to serve his own financial and strategic interests demonstrates the extent to which he will go, even at the expense of his child and the child’s mother.”

  • Denise Richards ex Aaron Phypers arrested in court as actress fights for restraining order

LOS ANGELES – Denise Richards’ estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, was arrested in court Friday.

Richards’ attorney told Fox News Digital Phypers was being arrested on spousal abuse charges.

Phypers was handcuffed inside the courtroom. He was then seen resisting and arguing with sheriffs while going down an escalator at the courthouse as they took him into custody.

After sheriffs escorted Phypers out of the courtroom, officers returned to retrieve his cellphone.

DENISE RICHARDS FELT ‘SHAMEFUL’ AFTER LEAKED NUDES, SAYS DAUGHTER COULDN’T ATTEND CHURCH

Denise Richards petitioned the court in July for a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers. (Bravo)

Fox News Digital hasn’t been able to reach Phypers’ attorney for comment.

Richards was initially granted a temporary restraining order against Phypers in July on allegations of physical and emotional abuse she endured throughout their marriage, including an alleged violent incident around the time he filed for divorce in July.

Richards testified in court last week that Phypers attempted to destroy her reputation during the fallout of their relationship, and at one point, leaked nude photos of the “Wild Things” actress.

“It’s been difficult for my daughters, especially with the naked photos,” Richards, who shares two daughters with ex Charlie Sheen, and one daughter with Phypers, told the judge during Wednesday’s court proceedings. “I’m so embarrassed and shameful as a mom. [My daughter] couldn’t go to church.”

In July, Richards petitioned the court, claiming Phypers stole her computer and “disseminated private information, including nude photographs” to various news outlets. Judge Nicole Bershon ordered that Phypers return the device within 48 hours.

On July 29, the judge forbade Phypers from distributing any “private” or “sensitive information” or any photos of a sexual nature that he may have downloaded from her phone or computer.

“Aaron stole my laptop and sent private text messages he had stolen from my laptop without my permission. Aaron threatened that I would ‘disappear’ if I called the police,” Richards wrote in her petition for a temporary restraining order.

In a statement to People magazine, Phypers denied Richards’ allegations: “I absolutely deny the false allegations that I violated the restraining order or stole Denise’s laptop or cell phones. These claims are not only untrue — they are being weaponized to damage my reputation and distract from the truth.”

During Wednesday’s hearing, Richards’ attorney, Brett Berman, put Phypers in the hot seat.

“How did you obtain [those photos],” he asked, to which Phypers said, “I took pictures with my phone of her phone. This was stuff she was hiding from me. I didn’t think it was private … My wife was cheating on me.”

When Berman asked Phypers if he thought disseminating this private material would have been “in violation” of Richards’ privacy, he responded, “No absolutely not. She was already sharing with someone.”

After Berman asked Phypers how he would feel if the roles were reversed, sensitive photos were released of him, he replied, “If I put it out there, I put it out there.”

Phypers filed for divorce from Richards July 7. He cited irreconcilable differences and is seeking spousal support from the “Real Housewives” star. Ten days later, Richards’ request for a temporary restraining order was granted.

“Throughout our relationship Aaron would frequently violently choke me, violently squeeze my head with both hands, tightly squeeze my arms, violently slap me in my face and head, aggressively slam my head into the bathroom towel rack, threaten to kill me, hold me down with his knee on my back to the point where I would have to plead with him to get off me so that he would not kill me and hack into my laptop and phone and download all of my text messages,” Richards claimed in the documents, filed July 16.

“Aaron regularly threatened to ‘break my jaw’ and would cry, beg me to stay, and promise to get help – none of which ever happened. Aaron has caused me at least three concussions.”

During proceedings earlier this month, Richards described multiple allegations of physical and emotional abuse as she detailed terrifying incidents that left the mother of three fearful for her life.

At one point during the hearing, Richards pleaded for a tissue and began crying while recalling a particularly abusive event in May. Richards claimed Phypers got “very volatile” with her at the Four Seasons hotel just hours after the reality TV star had undergone multiple cosmetic surgeries – including a face-lift.

Phypers allegedly tried to search through Richards’ devices while she was sleeping. He allegedly hit her face and damaged a drain in the process.

“That is when I really, really knew that our marriage was over because there’s been physical abuse, but it kept getting worse and worse,” Richards testified. “But the fact that he did that to me five hours after coming out of a seven-hour surgery … made me feel a lot of things. Scared and vulnerable.”

Richards took the stand once again to detail Phypers’ alleged “manic” behavior throughout their relationship.

In response to the alleged leaked photos that were released of her by Phypers, Richards sent him a video — a part of which was played in court — referring to Phypers as a “narcissist” and detailing multiple instances of alleged physical abuse.

“You were the last person I thought would do that to me,” Richards told Phypers via video recording that was presented in court. “I don’t know why I’m having a hard time with this. Things were bad with Charlie and I, but he never hit below the belt.”

“I told my dad, I just don’t know why I believed you and I loved you, and I really thought you were my soulmate,” she continued. “I never in a million years thought we were getting divorced.”

Richards denied any infidelity, but accused Phypers of stepping out on their marriage.

Phypers has also demanded spousal support and half of the “Real Housewives” star’s OnlyFans income.

Phypers filed a petition Wednesday claiming he’s out of money after Richards allegedly cut off access to their joint bank account and took away his holistic business equipment. He claimed Richards is preventing him from making a living. “With regard to the OnlyFans page, the money that she receives from it is about $200,000 to $300,000 per month and that income is derived from photographs that I took and to which I hold the intellectual property rights,” Phypers’ petition, obtained by Fox News Digital, read. “Therefore, it is our joint earnings and not hers alone. I request that I receive half of the OnlyFans income as a property control right.”

According to Phypers, he’s about to be evicted from the home he’s currently in and his utilities have already been shut off. He requested immediate access to $200,000.

Phypers also asked for additional spousal support on top of half of Richards’ OnlyFans earnings.

LOS ANGELES — Denise Richards continues to relive painful moments from her past.

On Wednesday, the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, who was granted a temporary restraining order against estranged husband Aaron Phypers July 17 amid their ongoing divorce, said her ex’s alleged effort to destroy her reputation not only left her feeling ashamed and “embarrassed” but also affected her children.

According to Richards, weeks after Phypers filed for divorce from the reality TV star, the 53-year-old allegedly leaked nude photos of his estranged wife.

A judge granted Richards’ request for a temporary restraining order against Phypers amid their ongoing divorce on July 17.

“Until now, I have been afraid to report Aaron to the police or file for a restraining order because he has repeatedly threatened to kill himself and me if I reported him to the police, among his other threats of harm to me and himself if he is reported for his abuse to anyone,” Richards continued.

Phypers denied all allegations of mental or physical abuse in a statement at the time.

“I want to address recent rumors and speculation that have surfaced regarding my relationship with my wife, Denise Richards,” he told People. “Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise – or anyone. These accusations are completely false and deeply hurtful. Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience, and respect.”

In court on Wednesday, Phypers again denied all physical abuse allegations. When asked by his attorney if he ever threatened to kill Richards, he said, “No, never.” He later added, “I don’t abuse my wife, no.”

Phypers also testified that Richards’ black eye was self-inflicted. “She said she fell, hit a pole,” Phypers said, adding that Richards had been drinking tequila.

Phypers additionally testified that Richards called him 17 times in less than a week after she was granted the temporary restraining order.

For her part, Richards acknowledged she “called five times because this was after I had seen and heard … the pictures … and hearing about the things he was saying about me in the press I was just so … finding this in itself is so scary for me,” she said, while crying on the stand.

During Monday’s proceedings, Richards described multiple allegations of physical and emotional abuse as she detailed terrifying incidents that left the mother of three fearful for her life.

Scared and vulnerable. I couldn’t walk by myself.

“And the person I looked to as my husband to protect me wasn’t anymore. That’s when I really, really knew there wasn’t going back. To do that to your wife coming out of surgery?

“I felt broken and defeated and so alone and just so vulnerable because I just had an extensive surgery. Him knowing the body and wellness and working on people … and to do that to your wife?”

On Tuesday, Richards took the stand again to detail Phypers’ alleged “manic” behavior throughout their relationship.

In response to the alleged leaked photos that were released of her by Phypers, Richards sent him a video — a part of which was played in court — referring to Phypers as a “narcissist” and detailing multiple instances of alleged physical abuse.

Richards denied any infidelity but accused Phypers of stepping out on their marriage.

“You can claim I cheated, but I didn’t,” she said. “You did do stuff. And I don’t care how long ago it was. The fights were so f—ing bad, especially after your family moved [into their shared home]. I tried my best to not have it be as bad as it was. I tried my hardest. I just could not do that s—show anymore.”

“Aside from hitting me as much as you did and filing a police report … claiming that I hit you in the chest three times and scratched your eye. Like, come on,” she continued. “Low blow. And I get you’re upset that I filed the restraining order, but you hit me one too many f—ing times. Each time was getting worse and worse it was. You were manic,” she alleged.

“You were the one person that I always thought I could trust and that would protect me, and you were the f—ing opposite,” she added. “I think I’m having such a hard time because I was married to someone I never f—ing knew.”

In court documents filed Sept. 29 and obtained by Fox News Digital, Phypers’ lawyers named Richards’ ex, Charlie Sheen, and “RHOBH” alum Brandi Glanville as witnesses.

In the filing, Phypers’ attorneys stated that Sheen could testify regarding “Denise’s history of not being truthful and of drug and alcohol abuse.”

Richards and Sheen tied the knot in 2002 and were married for just under three years before Richards filed for divorce in March 2005, when she was pregnant with their second daughter, Lola. They welcomed their first daughter, Sami, one year prior.

  • Diddy crafts image of model prisoner amid fears of retaliation from victims

Sean “Diddy” Combs turned a page on his past life and inspired inmates through business mentorship programs over the last year while behind bars on federal sex crimes charges.

In letters of support submitted to the court before the disgraced rap mogul is sentenced Friday, Oct. 3, a fellow inmate praised Diddy for his motivational acumen, while an alleged victim denied being “sex trafficked” and forced into prostitution.

A number of alleged victims, including ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, came forward to voice concerns about the potential for a shorter sentence. Cassie wrote that she fled New York out of fear of “swift retribution” at the hands of Diddy or one of his associates.

A jury convicted Diddy in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper was acquitted of his most serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

Inmate Ho Wen Kwok, known as Miles Guo, had “multiple conversations” with Diddy throughout his time at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn. In a letter submitted to Judge Arun Subramanian, Guo wrote that he had personally witnessed Diddy go through “extreme emotional changes” throughout the case.

“When he first arrived, he was extremely depressed and was going through dark stages,” Guo noted. “But now he has found his light again. Because he has seen what this can do to your family and although he fell off, he has climbed back to the top of the mountain again.”

Diddy allegedly asked Guo for assistance creating an “AI platform so that we can help the people.” The Bad Boy Records founder also began a business entrepreneurship course for inmates.

“We have spoken about creating programs to take the youth out of the street and help them with music, sports, and just to find their light,” Guo wrote. “Since he found his light, he has spread it and try to shine as bright as he can by sharing it with the unfortunate in MDC by starting a course named ‘Free Game With Diddy.’”

DIDDY PLANNING UNCONVENTIONAL MOVE IN COURT AHEAD OF SENTENCING FOR PROSTITUTION CHARGES

A mother of an inmate, Maribel Flaquer, told the judge that Diddy had a “life-changing” positive influence on her son Raymond.

“Since he found his light, he has spread it and try to shine as bright as he can by sharing it with the unfortunate in MDC by starting a course named ‘Free Game With Diddy.’”

“To see my son find hope, guidance, and a new sense of responsibility has been a blessing,” Flaquer wrote. “I am so thankful to Diddy for taking the time to pour wisdom into him and for helping him realize that his life is not over – that he can still create a bright future.”

She added, “I truly believe this experience and Diddy’s mentorship have changed the trajectory of Raymond’s life. I am forever grateful for the inspiration, encouragement, and belief he has given my son.”

Virginia Huynh, who identified herself as Victim 3 in the case, wrote that she fully cooperated with prosecutors during the investigation, but felt “pressured to feel like a victim” and insisted she did not agree with the government that she had been involved in “forced prostitution.”

“I am so thankful to Diddy for taking the time to pour wisdom into him and for helping him realize that his life is not over – that he can still create a bright future.”

“I was not trafficked. I did not engage in prostitution with him or others,” she noted. “That would have been my testimony if called to the stand. I was subpoenaed and fully prepared to testify and answer all questions truthfully. But I was informed by my lawyer that I would not be called to take the stand.”

Huynh told the court that Diddy hadn’t contacted her, nor made her feel uncomfortable “in any way” throughout the process. She believed he would “continue to be compliant with the court’s conditions upon release.”

“In terms of sentencing, I kindly ask that you consider releasing him back to his family,” Huynh wrote. “I understand throughout the process he has been cooperative and respectful, including turning himself in.”

Diddy’s ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, and other witnesses who testified during the eight-week trial, submitted letters to the judge ahead of the rapper’s sentencing.

“I still have nightmares and flashbacks on a regular, everyday basis, and continue to require psychological care to cope with my past,” Ventura, who dated Diddy until 2018, wrote in the letter, obtained by Fox News Digital.

“My worries that Sean Combs or his associates will come after me and my family is my reality. I have in fact moved my family out of the New York area and am keeping as private and quiet as I possibly can because I am so scared that if he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution towards me and others who spoke up about his abuse at trial.”

Diddy’s former assistants, “Mia” and Capricorn Clark, along with the rapper’s former personal chef, each wrote letters to the judge. Ventura’s former stylist, Deonte Nash, reiterated the singer’s concerns about retribution in his letter.

“My worries that Sean Combs or his associates will come after me and my family is my reality.”

In the disgraced music mogul’s own letter to the court, Diddy took “full responsibility and accountability” for his past wrongdoings. His legal team proposed a 14-month sentence ahead of his Oct. 3 hearing. The “I Need A Girl” rapper has already spent 13 months behind bars.

“This has been the hardest 2 years of my life, and I have no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself,” Diddy wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News Digital.

The producer admitted he was free from drugs and alcohol “for the first time in 25 years,” and praised God “that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober.”

“In my life, I have made many mistakes, but I am no longer running from them,” Diddy wrote. “I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words ‘I’m sorry’ will never be good enough as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past.”

“The scene and images of me assaulting Cassie play over and over in my head daily,” he wrote. “I literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved. I’m sorry for that and always will be. My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will have to forever carry. The remorse, the sorrow, the regret, the disappointment, the shame.”

Diddy and his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, allegedly had a “freak off” at the InterContinental Hotel March 5, 2016, that turned violent. Cassie previously testified that she was attempting to leave the “freak off” after Diddy gave her a black eye.

After making it to the elevator lobby, the singer-songwriter testified, Diddy assaulted her. The rapper could be seen dragging Cassie down the hotel hallway in surveillance footage that was shown to the jury and previously released to the public in 2024.

“I can’t change the past, but I can change the future,” Diddy wrote. “I know that God put me here to transform me. Since incarceration, I have gone through a spiritual reset. I’m on a journey that will take time and hard work. I’m proud to say I’m working harder than I ever have before.

“I’m committed to the journey of remaining a drug free, non-violent and peaceful person. I thank God that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober. God makes no mistakes. I realize that this trial has received a tremendous amount of global press and Your Honor may be inclined to make an example out of me.”

He added, “I would ask Your Honor to make me an example of what a person can do if afforded a second chance. If you allow me to go home to my family, I promise I will not let you down and I will make you proud.”

In his letter, Diddy admitted, “I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness. I have been humbled and broken to my core. Jail is designed to break you mentally, physically and spiritually.”

“Over the past year there have been so many times that I wanted to give up. There have been some days I thought I would be better off dead. The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you – I choose to live.”

Diddy could spend a maximum of 20 years behind bars, 10 years for each count he was convicted of. The prosecution recommended 135 months (just over 11 years) for his sentencing.

Sean “Diddy” Combs apologized for “all of the hurt and pain” he caused with his conduct in a letter submitted to the court ahead of Friday’s sentencing.

“I take full responsibility and accountability for my past wrongs,” Diddy wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News Digital. “This has been the hardest 2 years of my life, and I have no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself.”

The fallen rap mogul admitted he was free from drugs and alcohol “for the first time in 25 years” and praised God “that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober.”

On Friday, the “Last Night” singer is expected to address Judge Arun Subramanian during his sentencing hearing after his legal team asked for a 14-month penalty. Prosecutors have asked the court for a minimum of 11 years behind bars.

In his letter, Diddy admitted, “I lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness. I have been humbled and broken to my core. Jail is designed to break you mentally, physically and spiritually.

“Over the past year there have been so many times that I wanted to give up. There have been some days I thought I would be better off dead. The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you— I choose to live.”

A jury convicted Diddy on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution on July 2. The “I’ll Be Missing You” rapper was acquitted of his most serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

“In my life, I have made many mistakes, but I am no longer running from them,” Diddy wrote. “I am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words ‘I’m sorry’ will never be good enough as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past.”

Diddy “had to look in the mirror like never before” while behind bars and admitted that “pain” became his teacher.

The remorse, the sorrow, the regret, the disappointment, the shame.

“I honestly feel sorry for something that I couldn’t forgive someone else for: if they put their hands on one of my daughters. This is why it is so hard for me to forgive myself. It is like a deep wound that leaves an ugly scar.”

I realize that this trial has received a tremendous amount of global press and Your Honor may be inclined to make an example out of me.

“I would ask Your Honor to make me an example of what a person can do if afforded a second chance. If you allow me to go home to my family, I promise I will not let you down and I will make you proud.”

Diddy could spend a maximum of 20 years behind bars, 10 years for each count he was convicted of. The prosecution recommended 135 months (just over 11 years) for his sentencing.

Judge Subramanian rejected Diddy’s request for a new trial and the rapper’s demand for an acquittal days before his scheduled sentencing.

The federal judge said the prosecution provided “overwhelming evidence” of Diddy’s guilt on the charges of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Sean “Diddy” Combs will be allowed to appear in non-prison clothing as he addresses Judge Arun Subramanian at his sentencing hearing on Oct. 3.

His court address will be the first time he’s spoken about the charges he was convicted on, as Diddy chose not to testify during the eight-week trial.

“The sentencing proceeding holds significant importance for Mr. Combs,” a letter filed on behalf of Diddy and obtained by Fox News Digital read. “He wishes to appear before the Court, address Your Honor, and allocute in the most dignified and respectful fashion possible.”

“The requested Order will facilitate that desire, as ‘[c]riminal defendants, like any other party appearing in court, are entitled to enter the courtroom with their heads held high.’”

“The government proved its case many times over,” the federal judge wrote in his opinion obtained by Fox News Digital. “That by itself might be enough to dispose of Combs’s challenge. But the other factors don’t do much to help Combs either.”

The prosecution claimed Diddy deserves a “substantial” prison sentence because the rapper is “unrepentant” in the sentencing recommendation filed Tuesday.

“Incredibly, while the defendant conceded his acts of violence and abuse throughout trial, he now argues that his victims should shoulder the blame,” the filing read.

Diddy’s legal team proposed a 14-month sentence ahead of his Oct. 3 hearing for federal charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. The “I Need A Girl” rapper has already spent 13 months behind bars.

Combs’ lawyers claimed the musician had been “sufficiently punished” for his crimes.

  • Federal judge blocks Voice of America mass terminations in scathing ruling against Lake

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth has blocked a new wave of terminations at Voice of America, offering harsh words for Kari Lake and saying the Trump administration’s conduct in his case would support civil contempt proceedings, if only the plaintiffs had asked.

In the 19-page ruling, Judge Lamberth halted the mass reduction in force at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and issued a warning that cuts would “cement” VOA’s failure to meet legal obligations to provide reliable news.

Lamberth’s list of failures included statutory violations involving VOA shutting down mandated language services despite clear congressional directives.

He stated that VOA acknowledged its “radio presence” had shrunk to a single 30-minute daily program in Dari and Pashto, leaving gaps in coverage for nations like North Korea and China.

Kari Lake was called out for admitting under oath that she hadn’t “given it a lot of thought” whether Africa qualifies as a “significant region of the world” under the law and confirmed VOA produces no programming for South America.

And Lamberth accused the Trump administration of misleading the court, going as far as to call it incredible to suggest the RIF was “uncertain” while evidence showed it was already in motion.

The RIF notices covered both VOA and USAGM employees, and Lamberth rejected the government’s attempt to carve out non-VOA staff.

He accused Lake and her team of “thumbing their noses at Congress’s commands” and showing “brazen disinterest” in statutory duties — strong language worth including.

The contempt warning wasn’t just about tone; it was also tied to their failure to produce required documents about future RIFs, despite court orders.

Overall, the order keeps VOA’s workforce intact through Oct. 14, when Lake will be forced to work with her team to file a plan showing how they will restore the legally required programming.

The judge warned that their “disrespect” for other rulings would have been enough to trigger a contempt trial.

“Equity is allergic to rigidity,” Lamberth wrote, pointing out the court’s power to stop executive overreach.

  • Federal judge blocks Trump’s expanded deportation plan over due process concerns for illegal immigrants

    [ad_1]

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from expanding the expedited removal of illegal immigrants, saying the risk of applying fast-track deportations in the interior of the United States is too great and could impact foreigners who aren’t eligible.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb in Washington, D.C., prevents the Trump administration from using expedited removal for immigrants granted parole status.

“The Court does not cast doubt on the constitutionality of the expedited removal statute, nor on its longstanding application at the border,” Cobb wrote in a 48-page opinion.

“It merely holds that in applying the statute to a huge group of people living in the interior of the country who have not previously been subject to expedited removal, the Government must afford them due process. The procedures currently in place fall short.”

Earlier this month, Cobb temporarily blocked the Trump administration from efforts to expand fast-track deportations of immigrants who legally entered the U.S. under humanitarian parole.

Fast-track deportations allow federal authorities to remove someone from the country without seeing a judge first.

Expedited removal has been used by the Trump administration to quickly remove illegal immigrants, a major hallmark of President Donald Trump’s campaign.

Meanwhile, the administration has pressured immigration authorities to ramp up deportations.
