    Authorities are searching for a suspect who poured a toxic black substance onto the Trump Kennedy Center’s outdoor ice rink, causing major damage and canceling a scheduled performance. Security footage captured the individual, and officials are urging the public to help identify the vandal.

    Officials are searching for a person they say spilled a “toxic substance” on the temporary ice rink outside the Kennedy Center on Friday.

    The ice skating rink outside the performing arts center was vandalized with a black sludge-like liquid, causing the cancellation of Friday night’s performance by the Montreal skating group “Le Patin Libre.”

    Now, Kennedy Center Interim President Richard Grenell is asking for the public’s help.

    “We were able to find security footage of the individual, and have shared that with the (U.S.) Park Police,” Grenell said. “We’re really asking the public to look at these pictures and to see if they know this individual.”

    In an interview with WTOP, Grenell said that it took more than 14 hours to repair the ice.

    “That toxic substance was so deep into the ice it really caused a lot of damage,” Grenell said. “It looked like black tar or gasoline.”

    While Grenell noted that nothing like this has happened during his short time at the Kennedy Center, he said there has been “a concerted effort from the left” to bully artists into cancelling their performances.

    “We at the Trump-Kennedy Center absolutely want every single person to come regardless of their politics. We haven’t canceled any shows,” Grenell said. “We want programming to be welcoming for everyone, including families.”

    Speaking about the vandalism itself, Grenell said these are the type of attacks that we are seeing more of in American society, “people who are so intolerant they want to try to silence people or cancel people.”

    “That’s just not the America that I grew up in. We have to be able to disagree without attacking or resorting to violence,” Grenell said.

    Grenell said the person who poured the black substance on the ice “lashed out in a terroristic way.”

    “(It’s) no way to conduct yourself as an American,” Grenell said. “I think that we need to be able to, if you disagree with someone politically, not resort to violence on someone’s person or on property. It is a dangerous slippery slope, and I would say, ‘Seek help.’”

    In December, the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees, who were all handpicked by President Donald Trump, voted to add Trump’s name to the performing arts center. Plaintiffs in an ongoing lawsuit argue that federal law prohibits the board from converting it into a monument for any other individual or adding any other person’s name to the building’s exterior.

    U.S. Park Police are currently investigating the incident and received the report from Kennedy Center officials.

  • Police ID suspect in Rhode Island hockey game shooting that killed 2, injured 3

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. — A shooter unleashed a flurry of bullets during a Rhode Island youth hockey game, killing two people and injuring three others, in an attack that was cut short when a spectator stepped in to help stop the tragedy, authorities said.

    Investigators had spoken to nearly 100 witnesses as of Monday evening as they attempt to piece together what happened earlier that afternoon inside the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, a few miles outside Providence.

    Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said Monday that the shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound, though authorities are still investigating.

    Goncalves credited an unnamed “good Samaritan” who intervened, bringing the attack “to a swift end.” She did not provide details.

    It is not entirely clear what precipitated the shooting, who was targeted or why. The game was livestreamed by LiveBarn, a streaming platform for youth sporting events, whose videos have been shared on social media showing players on the ice as popping sounds are heard. Chaos quickly unfolds as players on benches dive for cover, those on the ice frantically skate toward exits and fans flee their seats.

    LiveBarn’s social media account has been issuing warnings to those who shared the video that they do not have permission to do so. An email to LiveBarn seeking comment was sent Tuesday.

    “It appears that this was a targeted event, that it may be a family dispute,” Goncalves said. Authorities said both people who died were adults but have not released the identities of the victims.

    Goncalves identified the shooter as Robert Dorgan, who she said also went by the name Roberta Esposito, who was born in 1969.

    Dorgan was an active employee at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a ship building facility in Bath, Maine, that contracts with the U.S. Navy, David Hench, a spokesperson for the shipyard, said Tuesday. Hench did not immediately respond to questions about Dorgan’s job title or how long Dorgan worked at the shipyard.

    Monday’s shooting came nearly two months after Rhode Island was rocked by a shooting at Brown University that left two students dead and wounded nine others, as well as a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor. Authorities later found Claudio Neves Valente, 48, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a New Hampshire storage facility.

    “Our state is grieving again,” Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee said in a statement. “As governor, a parent, and a former coach, my heart breaks for the victims, families, students, and everyone impacted by the devastating shooting at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.”

    As the Bridge fire swept through mountain communities Tuesday night, Mountain High’s webcam showed a dramatic scene: Flames cutting through ski lifts at the well-known ski resort.

    The images boded ill for Mountain High, but as the night wore on, the resort’s fate remained a mystery.

    With sunrise, it became clear that the resort largely survived the blaze.

    “Fire raced through the area yesterday, but all the main lifts and buildings survived with little to no damage,” according to a post from Mountain High. “Thank you to all the employees and fire fighters for their hard work. Our hearts go out to the Wrightwood families that may be suffering. We are with you!”

    Some homes were burned in nearby Wrightwood, but exact numbers were unavailable Wednesday morning.

    Located about 75 miles northeast of L.A., Mountain High has three mountains for skiers and boarders, an ice rink for skaters and Yeti’s Snowplay, which includes tubing and sledding for young ones.

    The Bridge fire broke out Sunday in Angeles National Forest, with the flames spreading rapidly Tuesday in the northeast area, forest officials reported.

    Between Tuesday and early Wednesday, the blaze exploded from 4,000 acres to 47,904 acres, growing more than 10 times in size.
