Stretches of I-540 have opened up again after officials extinguished several brush fires.
The highway was fully open again as of 5:23 p.m. on Saturday, Raleigh police Capt. Charles Penny told The News & Observer. The cause of the fires — which were burning simultaneously in several locations along the highway — remains unclear. No injuries were reported.
The city of Raleigh sent out a traffic alert around 4:30 p.m. that all lanes of I-540 at Capital Boulevard were closed while the Raleigh Police and Fire Departments extinguished the fires. The fires stretched between Triangle Town Boulevard and Leesville Road.
