This is a roundup of news and other interesting pieces that I’ve come across over the last few days. I thought they are worth sharing so I hope you enjoy reading them.

American Airlines is trying to make sure everyone boards when they’re supposed to

“We are in the early phase of testing new technology used during the boarding process. The new technology is designed to ensure customers receive the benefits of priority boarding with ease and helps improve the boarding experience by providing greater visibility into boarding progress for our team,” a spokesperson for the airline said in a statement. The trial has been active in Albuquerque and Tucson, Arizona, for a few weeks. The airline plans to expand to more airports soon, including Washington Reagan National Airport, according to American.

Turning a Hyatt Disappointment into Travel Compensation Success

The booking was for my impending July 2023 trip to Japan. The only problem is: As of the writing of this article, there is no longer such a thing as the Hyatt Regency Osaka. That is because a group called Seibu Prince Hotels purchased this particular location on June 30, 2023, and withdrew it from the World of Hyatt program. The hotel now goes under the moniker “Grand Prince Hotel Osaka Bay”. In fact, until just this year, this change left Hyatt without a single location in Osaka. That is, until June of this year (2024) when Hyatt opened a Caption by Hyatt hotel in Osaka.

Easy Money – Getting Started with the TD Cash Credit Card

“I recently picked up the TD Cash credit card during a recent apporama, one on my to do list for years. Indeed, the TD Cash is a solid, not-exactly-sexy product which I just hadn’t gotten around to pursuing. But I like complementing no-brainer cards from the major banks with more niche options. With this new card just showing up in my mailbox, I figured I’d share my experience so far with a bank and card less trafficked in our points and travel hobby.”

Free American Airlines Status Match to Executive Platinum — Available Now

American had been selling access to the Instant Status Pass program. And of course each year they offer a status challenge to Hyatt elites. But this offer is free to anyone with United, Southwest or Delta status. Interestingly, your United or Southwest status can be ending with the end of the current status year (e.g. December 2024 or January 2025) but for Delta you need to have requalified for next year. They will even match up to Executive Platinum.

Newark Liberty ‘vision plan’ includes new Terminal B

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials held a press conference Thursday at Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A, revealing plans to reimagine the airport. The effort would center on the construction of a new, world-class Terminal B, to replace the current facility that opened in 1973.

NYC pizzeria named the very best in the world

Once again, for the second time, Una Pizza Napoletana, the Lower East Side spot by Anthony Mangieri, was crowned the best pizzeria in the world by 50 Top Pizza, an online guide that focuses on the top pizza parlors across the world and releases an annual ranking annually. The destination at 175 Orchard Street first earned the title in 2022, when it actually shared it with I Masanielli from Caserta, Italy. The next year, in 2023, the parlor landed in the number two spots—but it has found its way back up again in 2024.

Chase Hyatt Credit Card: 5 Free Night Certificates (Category 1-4) – Doctor Of Credit

    [ad_1]

    The Offer

    Direct link to offer

    • Chase is offering a bonus of five free night certificates, good on category 1-4 properties when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening on the Chase World of Hyatt card.

    Card Basics

    • This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months
    • Annual fee of $95
    • Card earns at the following rates:
      • 4x points per $1 spent on Hyatt hotels (they advertise this as 9x, but it’s 4x plus the 5x you normally get anyway)
      • 2x points per $1 spent on local transit and commuting (including taxis, mass transit, tolls and ride-share serivces)
      • 2x points per $1 spent on restaurants, cafes and coffee shops
      • 2x points per $1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly from the airlines
      • 2x points per $1 spent on fitness clubs and gym memberships
      • 1x points per $1 spent on all other purchases
    • Receive up to two free nights annually:
      • One free night at any category 1-4 Hyatt property every year after your card member anniversary
      • An additional free night at any category 1-4 Hyatt property if you spend $15,000 during your card member anniversary year
    • Status:
      • World of Hyatt Discoverist status for as long as the card is open
      • 5 qualifying night credits towards your next tier status every year
      • An additional 2 qualifying night credits towards your next tier every time you spend $5,000 on the card (no limit)

    Our Verdict

Previous best offer was 65,000 points. If you redeemed all five nights on a category four property that would come out to 90,000 points so this bonus is significantly better but you obviously lose the ability to stay at properties category 5 or above. This offer also requires a lot less spend. I think this offer is worth doing if you have a 5/24 spot and will be added to the best credit card bonuses.

Paid and award stays both work. Wouldn’t recommend signing up until you know you can satisfy the night requirement OR you need the elite status for an upcoming stay. It looks like there is also the reverse available (e.g Hyatt elites get status with American Airlines).

Arizona Biltmore is now an LXR hotel

The iconic Arizona Biltmore has removed its Waldorf Astoria flag and quietly converted to Hilton’s LXR brand. Hyatt & Peloton have announced a partnership. The partnership will involve Hyatt adding Peloton equipment to 800+ properties and provide access to Peloton classes on guestroom TVs at nearly 400 properties for guest and member enjoyment this year. The most interesting part of this partnership and the only reason we are posting is because that Hyatt plans to offer points for completing Peloton workouts during your Hyatt stays. Unfortunately no details have been released on what this actually looks like, but could be good for some easy points.

AmEx Offers: Grand Hyatt, Spend $250+ And Get $50 Statement Credit – Doctor Of Credit

    [ad_1]

    The Offer

Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:

    • Get a one-time $50 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $250 USD in one or more purchases on room rate and room charges at Grand Hyatt properties in the US and internationally from 4/8/2024 to 6/30/2024. Book at Hyatt.com.

    The Fine Print

    • Offer valid at all Grand Hyatt locations in the US and internationally.
    • Reservations must be made directly with Hyatt via Hyatt.com, the World of Hyatt mobile app, a Grand Hyatt hotel, or a Hyatt call center.
    • Excludes all other Hyatt brand properties.
    • Offer not valid for purchases of gift cards or World of Hyatt points.
    • Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Grand Hyatt property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $250 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.
    • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges. Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.

    Our Verdict

Despite the terms, gift card purchases have worked in the past to trigger the offer credit, so long as they are purchased from the front desk. Also, if your stay is after the end-date you should be able to call in and pay in full and it’ll trigger the offer. Also nice to see this offer will work internationally which has not been the case in the past with AmEx Offers for Hyatt.
