  • Our Best Look Yet at Deadpool & Wolverine’s Supervillain, and a Familiar Friend

Our Best Look Yet at Deadpool & Wolverine’s Supervillain, and a Familiar Friend

    [ad_1]

Marvel Studios recently released new photos from Deadpool & Wolverine and while they’re not groundbreaking, each is our best look yet at characters on opposite sides of the spectrum. On the one side, there’s Cassandra Nova, the evil, likely main villain in the film played by The Crown’s Emma Corrin. Then there’s Peter, one of Wade’s best friends played by Rob Delaney.

That’s one of the new images above, featuring Wade (Ryan Reynolds) and Peter at work together. It’s from a scene early in the film that screened at CinemaCon 2024 and you can read all about it here. Basically, Wade and Peter are car salesman and while Peter wants Wade to go back to being Deadpool, Wade does not. This is before the birthday party you see in the trailers.

Then here’s another photo of Peter that looks more like it’s from Superstore than a superhero film but hey, he’s great so we like it.

    Image: Marvel Studios

Finally, here’s the new image of Cassandra Nova, the character we all expect to be the big bad of the film. Either way, she’s certainly one of the main villains, considering the trailers have shown here with a team of B-level X-Men characters, in a gigantic Ant-Man helmet, and her powers completely baffling Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). But here we get a bit more of her stare, a bit more of her fashion, and a bit more of her lair. She looks very calm, very confident, and very much like Professor X, whom she’s related to in the comics but…is she here?

  • Vampire Hunter Van Helsing to Lead CBS’ Latest Crime Show

Vampire Hunter Van Helsing to Lead CBS’ Latest Crime Show

    [ad_1]

If you’re reading this, someone you know watches a crime show on CBS. You might not be aware that person watches the show, but numbers don’t lie. Shows like NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, FBI, SWAT, Blue Bloods, and others have been a gold mine for the network and now its latest one is getting a little more bloody.

Deadline reports that CBS’s latest addition to its wild collection of procedural crime shows is Van Helsing. Yes, everyone’s favorite vampire hunter is coming to CBS. This version, however, will be “a contemporary take on the monster hunter Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his uniquely inquisitive mind working alongside his ex, relentless FBI special agent Mina Harker, to solve New York City’s most harrowing cases.”

Do those “harrowing cases” involve vampires and other monsters? They damn well better! Otherwise, why the heck make a Van Helsing show? Syfy had pretty solid success with the property from 2016 to 2021, after all. And who can forget the 2004 Hugh Jackman movie with Kate Beckinsale—besides everyone, forever and always?

However, this version, which apparently landed at CBS after a “hotly contested auction,” has a proven pedigree. It’s executive produced by Rob Doherty, who took a similar approach to Sherlock Holmes with CBS’s Elementary, and will be written by Jonathan Lee, who wrote a new Netflix and BBC series called Lockerbie starring Colin Firth.

I’ve never found any CBS crime show to be particularly interesting but each one finds a slightly new twist on a proven formula. It certainly seems the network thinks Van Helsing, and all the lore that comes with the character, could be that once again. Do you agree?

  • Kevin Feige Told Hugh Jackman Not to Come Back as Wolverine

Kevin Feige Told Hugh Jackman Not to Come Back as Wolverine

    [ad_1]

    Screenshot: Marvel

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has defined the Fox era of X-Men movies. His storied tenure from the 2000 film all the way up to Logan gave us perhaps one of the most definitive live-action superhero performances of our lifetime. That makes the temptation of his return in Deadpool & Wolverine so potent—but for Marvel Studios’ head honcho, it was almost a curse.

“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recently told Empire about advising Jackman on a potential return to the character he’d stunningly bid farewell to in 2017’s Logan. “‘You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’” But Feige’s advice actually pushed Jackman to really consider what he’d want out of a return.

“I was about an hour into the drive,” Jackman said of his headspace after initial pitches. “And that question came into my head: ‘What do I want to do?’ And as soon as I asked the question, I wanted to do Deadpool & Wolverine. I just knew it. I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan [Reynolds], and said, ‘Ryan, if you’ll have me, I’m in.’”

What Jackman wanted to do was not actually return to the same character we saw perish in Logan, but offer a new take on Wolverine that, while drawing on his presence in the history of the Fox X-Men saga and its myriad permutations, also did something new with the character. Even if that ‘new’ was something as simple as finally letting Jackman put on the yellow spandex Logan and Cyclops had joked about way back in the first X-Men film. “We almost [had the suit on] in The Wolverine,” Jackman added. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.”

Hopefully we’ll see many more sides of Logan beyond just a costume change when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters July 26.

  • Inside the AFI Awards Gala Honoring Nicole Kidman

    [ad_1]

On a balmy April evening in Hollywood, the stars aligned to honor one of cinema’s most acclaimed talents: Nicole Kidman. At the iconic Dolby Theatre, the Australian actress reached rarified air, becoming only the 49th recipient of the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) Life Achievement Award in its nearly 50-year history. Kidman is the first Australian, and one of the youngest, to receive this highest honor.

The festivities began back in November 2022, when it was announced Kidman would join the ranks of previous AFI honorees like Bette Davis, Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Poitier and Tom Hanks. After postponement due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the ceremony finally took place on April 27. The televised tribute, airing on TNT on June 17, celebrated Kidman’s career through film clips and testimonials from her co-stars.

In the days preceding this grand convocation, Kidman stoked anticipation by sharing intimate behind-the-scenes shots on Instagram alongside some of the illustrious presenters—her dear friends and frequent collaborators Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Morgan Freeman and Naomi Watts. “Just a few of the people I can’t wait to see again on Saturday,” the actress teased in the heartwarming snaps, whetting appetites for the emotional reunions to come.

On the Dolby red carpet, Kidman stunned in a gold Balenciaga gown with a five-inch train, accessorized solely with gold rings and a one-of-a-kind 26mm De Ville Mini Trésor watch from Omega in Moonshine Gold, pavéd with glittering diamonds and emerald hour markers. She was joined by husband Keith Urban and daughters Sunday and Faith, marking their first public appearance with the actress.

The evening’s festivities kicked off with 2011 AFI honoree Morgan Freeman setting the tone in a video spoof of Kidman’s infamous AMC Theatres “we make movies better” ad. His quip, “Nicole Kidman. She makes movies better,” resonated with everyone who took the stage to honor the actress that night. A lineup of celebrities paid tribute, including Zac Efron, Zoe Saldana and a disguised Mike Myers, who slinked onstage donning one of the eerie orgy masks from Eyes Wide Shut. In a recorded Zoom segment, fellow Aussies Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman engaged in cheeky banter with Jimmy Fallon, collectively praising Kidman while playfully joshing that Blanchett should have been the first Australian honored.

The most emotional highlights came from Kidman’s loved ones. Her husband brought her to tears saying she showed him “what love in action really looks like” when his substance abuse issues arose shortly after their 2006 wedding. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are, 18 years later.”

Big Little Lies co-star Witherspoon lauded Kidman’s collaborative talents as a producer, recalling how their hit show materialized from their shared desire to bring it to life. “Instead of fighting it out in court or some televised Las Vegas boxing match, we decided to team up. Because there’s one thing Nicole knows very, very well—there’s power in collaboration and even more power in sisterhood,” Witherspoon explained, adding, “That’s why I’m here tonight, sister. I want to thank you for being a friend and the best colleague ever.”

Streep, who presented Kidman with the Life Achievement Award after receiving it herself in 2004 for The Hours, poked fun at being “incessantly called the greatest actress of my generation.” She revealed the hardest part is facing someone “really, really, really, really, really, really great” like Kidman, who did things Streep couldn’t on Big Little Lies. Still, Streep assured Kidman her best work lies ahead.

In her speech, Kidman expressed gratitude to the directors, living and late, who enabled her unconventional roles, name-checking Stanley Kubrick, Lars von Trier, Baz Luhrmann, Jane Campion, Yorgos Lanthimos and Sydney Pollack. “It is a privilege to make films. And glorious to have made films and television with these storytellers who allowed me to run wild and be free and play all of these unconventional women,” she said, adding, “Thank you for making me better at my craft and giving me a place, however temporary, in this world.”

As Hollywood royalty congregated to enshrine Kidman’s legacy, it was clear this revered actress’s cinematic journey has reached immortal heights. Just as opening speaker Morgan Freeman serenaded the radiant star with a line from one of her most beloved musical roles in Moulin Rouge!, prophetically intoning: “How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world.” For this cinematic luminary, the brightest adventures still lie ahead.

  • Ray Chan, Art Director and Production Designer for Marvel Films, Dies at 56

Ray Chan, Art Director and Production Designer for Marvel Films, Dies at 56

    [ad_1]

Ray Chan, the art director and production designer for Marvel Studios who contributed to Guardians of the Galaxy, three Avengers movies, the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine and more, has died. He was 56.

Chan died Tuesday near his home in Wales, his family announced. No cause of death was divulged.

“Ray truly was one of the best, in so many ways,” they said. “He had an exuberance for life, which was tragically cut short and will be sorely missed. He loved his career and lived a rich and wonderful life, and his memory will live on through all those he knew and the films he helped make happen.”

Chan served as supervising art director on Thor: The Dark World (2013), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Doctor Strange (2016) and the Avengers films Age of Ultron (2015), Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019).

He also was an art director on Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and production designer on the 2021 miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) and Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and hits theaters in July.

“He was as valuable a creative force on Deadpool & Wolverine as the writers, director and stars,” Reynolds said on social media.

“I don’t pretend to know every chapter of Ray’s heart, but I know it’s unusual to encounter someone with that level of artistry who simultaneously moved through the world with such indelible humanity.

“He built worlds from scratch — and did so in the most collaborative and inclusive ways. Ray was peerless. He’ll be missed by so many, but most of all by his family.

“The last time I saw Ray was exactly two weeks ago. One of [the] last things I said to him was that he makes magic, and there’s nobody on Earth like him. He and I would also give each other a lot of good-natured shit. So … of all the last things you could say to someone you adore, that’s a little scrap of consolation I’ll hang onto forever.”

Said Levy: “Ray did more than design the world of our movie; he lit up the world around him. Truly, anyone who knew Ray, or was lucky enough to collaborate with him as we were, experienced this beacon of a man: kind, warm, tenaciously devoted and relentlessly inspiring — Ray worked and lived with a joyous and contagious humanity that is rare.”

The oldest of three children of Hong Kong immigrants, Raymond Chan was born on Dec. 1, 1967, in Oldham, Greater Manchester. His mother was a machinist and his father a bus driver. He graduated with a graphic design degree from the Liverpool School of Art, then moved to London to join the new film and television M.A. postgraduate program at Kingston Art College.

After graduation and work as a butcher, Chan served as an art department assistant on The Secret Rapture (1993), then was a senior draughtsman on Hackers (1995). He went on to work on other films including Johnny English (2003), National Treasure (2004), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Children of Men (2006), Flyboys (2006), Knight and Day (2010) and Robin Hood (2010).

Chan collaborated with production designer Charles Wood on six Marvel films and 10 movies in all.

“Each film that Marvel [puts out], it’s always a very involved process, for myself and Charlie, each one is unique and a challenge,” Chan said in a 2018 interview with The Credits. “Guardians of the Galaxy is different to Ultron, which is different to Dr. Strange.

Infinity Wars was probably the biggest challenge. It comes off as a collaboration, working with a great studio like Marvel. There are great scriptwriters, directors, they bring a lot to the table. They’d come up with ideas, first, and we’d bounce off that.”

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Wood called Chan “an incredible talent, a brilliant designer, a true artist and an inspiring and steadfast leader. Ray was filled with the greatest kindness, never-ending generosity and fantastic humor; he had the most extraordinary energy and was so deeply treasured by everyone who met him.”

“From Xandar to the Sanctum Sanctorum, Ray brought distinct, lived-in worlds to the screen, spanning the far reaches of space to a Louisiana fishing boat,” Marvel said. “He was also a wonderful friend and colleague.”

Chan shared excellence in production design awards from the Art Directors Guild in 2015 and 2020 for Guardians of the Galaxy and Endgame, respectively.

Survivors include his wife, Lindsay; his sons, Caspar and Sebastian; and his daughter-in-law, Danielle.

“If not occupied with family or film,” they said, “Ray would most likely have his mind set on one of the three things, each of which, in another life, Ray would have excelled in: food, for Ray dearly loved to cook for family and friends and was a first-rate chef and benevolent host; cars, be it his beloved Range Rover P38, the mechanics of a Jeep’s engine or Formula One; his garden, at his house in Cowbridge, Wales, which he planned with his usual design flair. A lover of classic film, Ray also, perhaps surprisingly, loved musicals, with The Sound of Music being a firm favorite.”

Any stories or memories of Chan can be left here. Donations in his memory can be made to the Stroke Association.

  • We’ve Seen About 10 Minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine

We’ve Seen About 10 Minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine

    [ad_1]

There’s exactly one Marvel Studios movie coming to theaters this year, but it’s one of the biggest to date. Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for release on July 26 and it won’t only be the first MCU film for Ryan Reynolds’ wisecracking killer, but also the MCU debut of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman.

That alone already has fans excited and the number of people who watched the first trailer proved it again. Continuing the fun, Disney debuted new footage at CinemaCon 2024, and here’s what happened.

Wade Wilson grabs a staple gun, uses it to put on his wig, and says “Now let’s sell some certified pre-owned vehicles, motherfucker.” Smash cut to Wade in the back seat of a car with a family on a test drive. They ask him some questions but he keeps cursing and mentions he doesn’t have kids because he doesn’t have much vaginal sex. He’s bad at this.

Peter (Rob Delaney) apparently works there too and they talk in the locker room about how Wade may be a bad salesperson, but he can always go back to being a superhero. Wade explains that he’s done for good. This is the life he wants and if you “aim for the middle, you’ll never miss.” Peter shows him that he keeps an old Deadpool suit in his locker anyway.

Wade and Peter ride bikes home from work and Wade notices someone taking photos of them. The conversation continues about wanting to be superheroes again and Peter asks Wade if he’s just sad because it’s his birthday. He also mentions a very interesting piercing he’s just gotten.

Yes, it’s Wade’s birthday. He goes into his apartment and it’s a surprise party. There are all his friends from the first two movies: Negasonic, Colossus, Dopinder, Blind Al, and others. Wade goes around the room and catches up with everyone. One highlight of this is Wade and Al going back and forth with a ton of insults. She asks him if he wants to do some cocaine and he says that’s the one thing Kevin Feige said was off the table. She rattles off a bunch of different fake names and he says Feige knows them all. Finally she says, “Do you want to build a snowman?” To which he says, yes but I can’t.

Vanessa is also there and they are no longer together. She’s seeing someone from work though, and Wade is happy for her, though he’s not seeing anyone.

The group sings “Happy Birthday” and then Wade gives a heartfelt speech about how much he loves everyone in this room. He says that despite some tough years, he’s truly happy now because of them. He then goes on to blow out the candles… and the second he does, there’s a knock at the door.

You’ve seen some of this in the trailer. It’s the TVA. Wade assumes they’re a group of men who are there to have sex with him and he gets very dirty about what he wants them to do with all his holes. They then get fed up, knock him out, and put him through one of those TVA doors.

In the TVA, Mr. Paradox (Matthew McFayden) tells Wade that a) he soiled himself, and b) what the TVA does. “That’s a shit ton of exposition for a threequel,” Wade says. Mr. Paradox tells him he knows that Wade has been abusive of the timeline previously, with Cable’s time travel device, but that’s not why he’s there.

Apparently Wade has been chosen for a higher purpose. One that’s even unclear to the TVA. He needs to save the sacred timeline from a grisly fate at some point in the future. The two guys joke that it needs to be “Avenged.” That they’re going to “Marvel” at how “Cinematic” is. Wade says he wants it all, cameos, variants, the works.

They turn to the screen and on it is Steve Rogers as Captain America. Wade knows him and salutes the screen. “You’re no longer lost,” Mr. Paradox says, “You can now be a hero.” At this point, Wade notices a screen where Thor is holding a dying Deadpool and crying. “Why is Thor crying?” he asks. Wade isn’t supposed to see that though; that’s something that happens in the distant future.

Wade is all in and says he will return and help. He then turns to the camera, runs toward it, grabs it, shakes it and says “Suck it Fox! I’m going to Disneyland!” He also fellates the boom microphone a bit.

“Oh, there’s one more thing I need,” Wade says. It’s a costume. A TVA tailor makes him a brand new upgraded Deadpool costume, which comes together in a quick series of fast edits… which include more than a few of the tailor grabbing Wade’s crotch.

Wade loves the new costume, even if he has to tell them the tailor is a predator. He also mentions that his samurai swords are made out of adamantium. He jokes around that one of the TVA employees is eyeing him up and his underwear is getting tighter. The employee picks up the phone to call HR.

That leads into a montage of action scenes largely from the first trailer. Dog Pool running in slow motion. Lots of shooting. Wade in the back seat of a bloody car. And then, finally, we see him and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine sitting together in a car.

“What’s with the suit?” Wade asks. “Do the X-Men make you wear it?” He comments he looks like he fights crime for the Los Angeles Rams, but Wolverine isn’t having it. “I’m just trying to bond a bit,” he says.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. It opens July 26.

Update: the headline on the original post was updated to more accurately describe the length of the footage.

  • ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: Wade Wilson Tries To Adjust To Normal Life In Nine Minutes Shown At CinemaCon

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: Wade Wilson Tries To Adjust To Normal Life In Nine Minutes Shown At CinemaCon

    [ad_1]

Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy wanted to show spoiler-free footage, and perhaps it is, but, boy was it hysterical. In the nine minutes shown Ryan Reynolds is adjusting to normal life, content to aim for the middle, because you never miss.

He sasses his way around his birthday party where his tells his blind friend Al (Leslie Uggams) she can’t or say cocaine (“Do you want to build a snowman?” she asks and jokes in code). Monica Baccarin’s Valerie is seeing another guy, so we’re told. A black-clad SWAT team arrives at Wade’s apartment where he’s taken to Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Paradox who wants to bring Deadpool back to work or as our hero refers to himself “Marvel Jesus”. In another sequence, Deadpool insults Wolverine for leaving his house dressed like an LA Rams fan which ticks off the hand-fanged hero.

Before the footage was shown, Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige marveled over how fun it is to make an R-Rated movie with the F-word. Levy said that Reynolds is excited by the mere fact that Feige F-bombs.

Disney‘s afternoon CinemaCon session kicked off with a hysterical ‘Turn Your Cellphones Off’ PSA from Deadpool and Wolverine. Walking down a hallway, Deadpool says, “Secret Wars was finally going to introduce…” before he’s interrupted by a cell phone ringing. Wolverine turns to the screen and threatens to shove the phone up our a*sses. “Easy now! So much testosterone!” says Deadpool trying to calm him down. One thing is clear, Deadpool and Wolverine call to mind the riotous banter between Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro in Midnight Run.

The threequel sees Ryan Reynolds reprising his titular role and Hugh Jackman coming back as Wolverine. In addition, the pic stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.

Disney starts overseas rollout on Deadpool & Wolverine on July 24 internationally and releases July 26 domestically.

The trailer that dropped during the Super Bowl in January smashed records when it nabbed 365 million views in its first 24 hours.

Co-written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Reynolds and Levy, Deadpool 3 is produced by Levy, Reynolds and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

Are you excited for Deadpool & Wolverine? Us too. The highly anticipated third Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is coming this summer and could potentially blow the roof off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its hard R-rating and multiversal connections.

So that’s Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie, in theaters July 26. There’s also Deadpool and Wolverine, the Marvel Comics characters, and they feature prominently on this gorgeous officially licensed art by Doaly that’s now on sale at MoorArtGallery.com.

Image for article titled We Love This Deadpool and Wolverine Art, But It’s Not Deadpool & Wolverine Art

    Image: Marvel/Doaly

This piece is actually called Deadpool vs. Wolverine, which is a smart way to distinguish it from the movie. But also, it’s not a coincidence that it’s being released around the same time, and Deadpool himself would approve of the crossover. Plus, in the piece, we get the cheeky twist of it being Deadpool saying Wolverine’s trademark sound. So is it Deadpool who has the claws or Wolverine? It’s art, whatever you say goes.

So no, this isn’t a Deadpool & Wolverine poster. But it’s a Deadpool and Wolverine poster. Which is kind of the same. Same characters, different syntax. The piece is a 16 x 24 inch giclée with an embossed seal that comes with an artist-signed certificate of authenticity. It’s a limited edition of $250 and costs about $70. Taylor Swift Watches Travis Kelce’s Chiefs Game With Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman And More

Swifties’ wildest dreams are coming true because Taylor Swift is back for another one of Travis Kelce‘s games.

A week after the pop star set the internet ablaze by popping up next to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s mom at his game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, she’s officially back in the stands for another round of Sunday football — this time against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Swift wasn’t alone, either. In videos posted to social media from inside the stadium, Swift arrived at the game alongside close friends Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, as well as Hugh Jackman. Swift was also seen with Sabrina Carpenter and Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski.

Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, also came out for the big game, alongside his girlfriend, Sydney Ness.

A source previously told ET that the world-famous performer was planning on attending the game.

“The Jets haven’t been notified specifically about Taylor coming to Sunday’s game, but are prepared to welcome her if she decides to come,” another source said. “Patrick Mahomes booked a suite for his family and friends and Taylor could be joining that suite.”

Swift’s trip to Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri last Sunday — where she was later spotted walking with Kelce after the game — was the unexpected confirmation that she and the football pro are actually more than just friends. The physical proof sparked serious excitement over a possible pairing between pop and football royalty.

Back in July, Kelce expressed his interest in the singer, revealing on his podcast that he had wanted to give her a friendship bracelet at her Kansas City show, but was bummed that he did not get to meet with her.

Swift was all-smiles as she watched her rumoured beau Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 24. To make betters even more cutesie, Swift cheered on the sidelines with Kelce’s mom Donna.

“Travis has been into Taylor for a while and definitely has a crush on her,” a source told ET. “He is a simple guy that is very funny, charismatic, chill, and loves playing football.”

Now, a source tells ET the two are “excited about where things are headed.”

“When Taylor and Travis first connected, Taylor was looking to have fun while enjoying some downtime,” the source said. “So far, it’s been a nice change of pace for her. Now, as things progress between Taylor and Travis, they’re both looking to keep it more private. They’re both excited about where things are headed.”

Deborra-Lee Furness Responds To Radio Hosts Hinting To Chat About Recent Split From Hugh Jackman

    [ad_1]

It doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman’s estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, is quite ready to discuss her split from the “X-Men” actor in detail.

The pair recently announced they were ending their marriage after 27 years.

On Tuesday, Australian radio hosts, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O. Henderson, accidentally called her during a live episode of “The Kyle & Jackie O Show” and seemingly expressed sympathy over Furness and Jackman’s separation without specifically addressing it.

“We have actually called you by mistake, it’s ridiculous,” Sandilands told Furness, according to the Daily Mail. “Seriously, this isn’t a stitch up.”

Expressing atonement over the goof, he added: “We didn’t mean to actually call you. But now you’re here, we won’t go into it. We love you, we hope you’re well.”

The “Blessed” actor didn’t seem disturbed by the hosts’ unexpected call.

“Thank you, guys, I really appreciate it. You’re really sweet,” Furness told Sandilands and Henderson.

“I just feel it’s too soon,” Sandilands added, subtly referencing her former relationship with Jackman. “I don’t want to get involved in anything. But we love you, and you ring us when you want to chat.”

She then reportedly thanked them again before exiting the call.

Jackman, 54, and Furness, 67, first met while filming the TV series “Correlli” in 1995. They tied the knot after just 11 months of dating.

He confessed to Ellen DeGeneres back in 2016 that he had a “major crush” on Furness from the time they met on set.

The former couple share two children together: Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.

“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” Jackman and Furness said in a joint statement to People.

A source close to the couple said that what appeared to be a sudden break up had been “a long time coming,” and friends and family of the couple were the first to find out.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,” they concluded in their message.

Days later, Jackman reportedly gave a brief response about the split, calling it “a difficult time” to the New York Post.

A source close to the couple told Page Six that what appeared to be a sudden break up had been “a long time coming,” and friends and family of the couple were the first to find out.

Another insider also told the outlet that Jackman and Furness have spoken to each other “pretty regularly” since ending things.

Adding that they are “always going to be friends and navigate this together,” the source continued, “You just can’t be married for 27 years, share two kids and suddenly stop speaking.”

A separate source reportedly assured Us Weekly that the exes are still on good terms amid their separation. They reached a point “where they were more like best friends.”

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced they are separating after 27 years of marriage.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the couple said in a statement shared with People magazine on Friday.

Jackman and Furness, who are both from Australia, met in 1995 when he was an up-and-coming actor and she was already an established star. The couple married in 1996 and have two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, according to People.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,” the couple said in their joint statement.

They added that this was the only statement either intended to make on the subject.

Jackman, who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, and two Tony Awards, didn’t come from from a show business family; his parents emigrated from England to Australia in the 1960s. He and Furness first met on the set of an Australian TV show.

Jackman often spoke about his love for his wife. In April he posted on Instagram for their 27th anniversary, “Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”

Twitter Users React To Hugh Jackman In Iconic Wolverine Suit For ‘Deadpool 3’

    [ad_1]

After over two decades, Hugh Jackman will finally don the iconic yellow and blue Wolverine costume in the upcoming “Deadpool 3” film.

On Monday, Twitter users got a first look at the actor wearing the beloved supersuit after the “Deadpool” Twitter account posted a behind-the-scenes photo of Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, walking side-by-side.

Fans of Wolverine know that this is a massive win considering the original “X-Men” movies have steered clear from the traditional costumes, particularly Wolverine’s famous bright yellow suit from the Marvel Comics and ’90s animated “X-Men” series, which fans literally begged to see for years.

After the snapshot of Jackman hit the internet, it was only right for Twitter users to have an absolute field day.

Though many fans beamed over the star’s suit, some Twitter users pointed out that it includes sleeves, unlike his famous look in the comic books.

Other Twitter users speculated that the sleeves might be in place to protect the Australian actor from the sun while filming due to Jackman’s skin cancer treatments over the years.

In September, Reynolds ignited Twitter after releasing a surprise video teasing the return of the regenerative mutant with virtually indestructible adamantium claws for “Deadpool 3.”

Since 2000, Jackman has played the fast-healing superhero nine times in multiple films, including “X2: X-Men United,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “X-Men: First Class” in a cameo, “The Wolverine,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Deadpool 2” and “Logan.”

His Wolverine character died during his last appearance in 2017’s “Logan” after adamantium poisoning overwhelmed his system, killing him slowly due to his age.

“Deadpool 3” hits theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.

  • Ryan Reynolds Vs Hugh Jackman: Best Of Their Faux Beef

Ryan Reynolds Vs Hugh Jackman: Best Of Their Faux Beef

    [ad_1]

    By Melissa Romualdi.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have been entertaining fans for over a decade with their ongoing faux feuds.

Since the two met on set of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, they’ve grown to become close friends, giving fans countless reasons to laugh as their beef continues to escalate to date.

According to Jackman, here’s how the pair’s online flame war began.

“I met [Reynolds] back on [‘X-Men Origins] Wolverine’, and I used to ream him because I was very close friends with Scarlett [Johansson], and Scarlett had just married Ryan, so when he came on set I was like, ‘Hey, you better be on your best behaviour here, pal, because I’m watching,’ and we started ribbing each other that way,” he told Daily Beast back in 2020.

“And then it all escalated with the ‘Deadpool’ thing and him calling me out, and trying to manipulate me through social media to do what he wanted,” he continued, referring to how Reynolds wanted him to appear in the franchise. Nonetheless, Reynolds’ manipulative tactics seemed to work because the two are now set to star opposite one another again in “Deadpool 3”, which Reynolds confirmed back in September.

Despite their hateful scheming, the two still manage to cheer each other on in between their back and forth banter. From epic prank wars to online trolling, we’ve rounded out the best of Reynolds and Jackman’s faux beef.

Battle Of The ‘Deadpool’ Body Training

The latest rivalry between Jackman and Reynolds began when the latter poked fun at Jackman’s defined physique, captioning a gym picture on Instagram, “Keeping Up With The Jackmans.” When ET Canada’s Morgan Hoffman caught up with Reynolds at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards, the Canadian star joked that he’s “trying” his best when it comes to training for the eagerly anticipated sequel.

“Hugh Jackman is a beast…He’s clearly obsessed with his own body,” Reynolds said. “So, keeping up with someone who’s that diligent is going to be challenging.”

To this, Jackman playfully replied on Twitter: “More like petrified. Have you seen you?”

    Oscars Nomination Drama

In January, Jackman intended to kick off the new year with “a positive message,” but revealed in an Instagram video that “recent events have made that impossible,” referring to news that Reynolds’ “Spirited” track “Good Afternoon” had been shortlisted by the Academy for an Oscar nom in the Best Song category. He begged the Academy not to give his friend an Oscar nom because it would make his life “insufferable,” despite calling it an “absolutely brilliant” song.

Reynolds re-posted Jackman’s video, writing, “Good Afternoon to you, Mr. Jackman,” referencing how when people in “Spirited”- a modern adaptation of “A Christmas Carol”- say “good afternoon,” it actually means “f**k you.” Those who understood the classic Charles Dickens reference found Reynolds’ caption very amusing, including his “Spirited” co-star Octavia Spencer who commented, “Y’all crack me up!”

Reynolds further reacted to Jackman’s video by putting his friendly rivalry aside to cheer for his frenemy instead. He led the charge for “The Son” actor’s nomination for the 2023 Academy Awards, saying that he “loved” Jackman’s performance in the flick, calling it “one of the best of his entire career.”

“There’s zero sarcasm here,” he joked.

    Good Luck Prank

Reynolds took his pranking game up a notch with a hilarious gift for Jackman before the opening night of The Music Man on Broadway In February 2022. The actor sent the Broadway star two large framed photos of himself: one of Reynolds mid-air in a musical theatre fashion, and a sketch of himself staring intensely with his arms crossed. The photos came with a note from the actor: “Hugh, good luck with your little show. I’ll be watching.”

Jackman shared his candid reaction in a post to Instagram:

    Failed Sweater Memo

During the 2018 holiday season, Jackman teamed up with Jake Gyllenhaal to prank his pal, Reynolds, at a Christmas party.

The “Deadpool” star shared a photo on Instagram of himself next to the fellow actors, however, Reynolds showed up in an over-the-top Christmas sweater while Gyllenhaal and Jackman were in regular attire.

“These f**king a**holes said it was a sweater party,” he captioned the pic.

Nonetheless, Reynolds ended up turning the hilarious holiday prank into a fundraiser to raise money in support of Toronto children’s hospital, SickKids.

    Reynolds Disses Jackman’s Fanbase

In 2017, while Jackman was promoting “Logan” in Beijing, he shared a photo of himself posing with fans, to which Reynolds replied: “Pretty sure those are protesters.”

    The ‘Real’ Ryan Reynolds

Keeping his mock feud with Reynolds alive and well, in 2016, Jackman took to social media to honour Reynolds receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame by impersonating his frenemy via a thank you speech.

In the video, Jackman pretended to be the “Free Guy” actor by simply covering his face with a cut-out of Reynolds’ face. He threw jabs at the actor’s credentials including his 2010 People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover.

“How could a guy who failed his high school drama class be this talented?” Jackman hilariously questioned Reynolds’ achievement.

“Feel free to urinate on my section of the sidewalk,” he concluded.

A year prior, Reynolds seemingly began the impersonation war when he gave his best impression of Jackman, complete with the Australian accent, in a video of himself sporting a filter that makes him look old.

“Hugh Jackman here. Just reminding you to get your votes in for People‘s Sexiest Man Alive,” he says in the clip, mocking Jackman’s 2008 cover.

Jackman shared the video to his Instagram account with the caption: “Presenting … ME by HIM. @vancityreynolds.”

Actor Hugh Jackman took to social media on Tuesday to warn people about the dangers of sun tanning and skin cancer.

In a short video posted to Instagram, Jackman, 54, revealed he is undergoing skin cancer testing to determine if abnormalities spotted during a recent medical checkup are signs of basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.

Jackman promised his fans that as soon as he knew the results of the biopsies, he would share the information.

“Just to remind you, basal cell, in the world of skin cancers, is the least dangerous of them all,” Jackman cautioned his followers. “However, if I can just take this opportunity to remind you, summer is coming.”

He urged his followers to “please wear sunscreen.”

“It’s just not worth it, no matter how much you want to tan. Trust me, trust me, trust me,” he said. “Put some sunscreen on. You’ll still have an incredible time out there.”

Jackman has been treated for basal cell carcinoma several times in the past. He was first diagnosed in 2013 and revealed at the time that he had a cancerous growth removed from his nose. Basal cell carcinoma, widely considered the most common of all skin cancer types, often appears as a slightly transparent bump on the skin. Basal cell carcinoma is believed to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight.

It is rare for basal cell carcinoma to spread to another part of the body, though it is possible to have more than one appearance of basal cell carcinoma at a time. In fact, having one basal cell carcinoma increases your risk of getting another.

In Canada, one in every eight people will develop basal cell carcinoma in their lifetime.
