Eight people are displaced after an overnight house fire in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, officials said.
Six adults and two children are without a home after a neighboring garage on the 2100 block of Ericon Drive caught fire around 2 a.m., according to the city’s fire chief.

All eight people made it out safely, and the fire chief said the Red Cross is providing shelter for them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Flames that began in an attached garage swept through a house in Woodbridge, Virginia, early Saturday.
Prince William County Fire and Rescue said seven people, including a child, were all evacuated safely, as crews worked to contain heavy fire coming from a house in the cul-de-sac of Luca Station Drive around 2:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
The home sustained extensive damage and has been declared unsafe.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.

The young children were identified as siblings Desmond, 5 months, and Maddison, 20 months, while the man was identified as Matthew Chilly, per news.com.au.
The children and Chilly were inside the home when the fire broke out at around 6:50 a.m. Two others managed to escape the blaze and were taken to the hospital, per the outlet and ABC.

Tributes laid near the home in Emerald in Queensland
Senior Sergeant Peter McFarlane told news.com.au that the survivors were suffering from psychological distress. He said the relationships between those who had died would be provided at a later time, per ABC.
When emergency services arrived at 7 a.m., neighbors were reportedly using garden hoses to try and stop the blaze, according to news.com.au. The home was found fully engulfed in flames by fire crews, per ABC.
“It’s been quite traumatic on all emergency services and obviously our priority is the families and extended families of the victims, but also emergency services workers who will require some support in coming days,” McFarlane said, per news.com.au.
“It was a very sad and tragic scene inside and outside of that fire,” he added. “We have a lot of families gathered around there, and as I said, they are very tight knit families, extended families here in Emerald, and they are gathering around to support each other.”
PEOPLE has contacted the Queensland Police Service and the Queensland Fire Department for comment.
A GoFundMe page has been created by the aunt of Desmond and Maddison’s father, Jake Symes, to raise funds for funeral expenses, per the outlet.
“It breaks my heart to be writing this. In the early hours of 6 November 2025, my nephew Jake Symes lost his entire world — his two beautiful children, Maddison (1 year, 8 months) and Desmond (5 months) — in a tragic house fire in Emerald,” the description on the page by Sally Woulfe reads.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli told press on Thursday that the tragedy was “incredibly sad,” per news.com.au.
“When you deal with smaller towns, there is no doubt that those connections will be felt and the loss will be felt so deeply,” he said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. McFarlane told ABC that an e-scooter is among the lines of inquiry.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez, Porltand Police Bureau Chief Bob Day and Portland Fire and Rescue Chief Lauren Johnson addressed the public in a joint press conference Tuesday afternoon regarding an arrest in the Portland City Councilor Candace Avalos case. Her Portland town home and vehicle were badly burned on October 26th. And there was some speculation that it could have been a targeted political attack.
But, it was revealed that the arrest of the suspect in the case did not suggest that was the case.
51-year-old Vashon Locust was arrested and charged with second-degree mischief and reckless burning. Those are both misdemeanor crimes.
Authorities say Locust is a homeless man who they believe had lit a fire to stay warm and it got out of control.
Councilor Avalos had a statement read that said in part that she hoped Mr. Locust would be getting the mental health support he needs.

After more than a month in a burn unit, a Fort Worth firefighter Caleb Halvorson injured in a Southside house fire finally returned home, officials said.

After more than a month in a burn unit, a Fort Worth firefighter injured in a Historic Southside house fire is finally home, officials said.
Firefighter Caleb Halvorson, 26, was brought home Monday by his crew and will continue his long recovery and rehabilitation at home, the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a statement.
Halvorson, who has been with the department for three years, faces multiple surgeries followed by months of physical therapy for his extensive injuries and burns, officials said.
As the family celebrates Halvorson’s homecoming, they’re also preparing to welcome their baby boy, who is expected to be discharged from the NICU soon after more than 100 days, officials said.
“Father and son will be reunited — two Halvorsons who beat the overwhelming odds against them and fought with everything they had to see each other once again,” officials said.

Two Fort Worth firefighters were injured while battling a two-alarm fire in the 200 block of South Williams Street on Sept. 3.
Halvorson was pulled from the burning debris in less than two minutes and rushed to waiting medics and flown in a CareFlite helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, with significant injuries. He experienced complications, including serious infections and skin graft surgeries, officials said.
No residents were inside the one-story, wood-frame home at the time of the fire, and no other injuries were reported.

Firefighters extinguished a burning power pole in a San Jose neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon that threatened neighboring homes, authorities said.
Originally, the San Jose Fire Department said on social media that the fire was burning at a single-family home on Peachtree Lane west of Bascom Avenue in the Cory neighborhood between Newhall and W. Hedding Streets.
The initial call came in at 2:50 p.m. and also involved a utility pole on fire with downed power lines, the Fire Department said.
A subsequent social media post said the fire originated at the power pole, and the downed lines spread the fire to a shed and fence.
Authorities believe a fire at a southern Minnesota fraternity house was intentionally set.
Mankato Public Safety said first responders arrived at 227 Lincoln Street around 5 a.m. Monday. An online fundraiser identified the location as the chapter house for Phi Kappa Psi — Minnesota Gamma.
Officials said everyone made it out of the house and no injuries were reported.
Surveillance footage helped authorities identify an arson suspect, the public safety department said. That suspect was arrested and is awaiting charges.
Officials estimate the fire caused $50,000 in damage.
“Thankfully, all of our brothers are safe, but the partial, but not total loss of our chapter house is a heartbreaking blow,” the online fundraiser read. “For many of us, this house wasn’t just a building, it was a home filled with memories, camaraderie, and lifelong friendships. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said a fire erupted in the basement of a two-story house on Persimmon Tree Road near Eggert Drive around 3:40 p.m.
Pete Piringer, spokesman for the fire department, said 60 firefighters reported to the scene.
Initial reports indicated there was smoke and someone trapped inside. Firefighters found an unconscious adult in the home and attempted to revive the person but were unsuccessful.

Fire Chief Corey Smedley told WTOP that the “elderly woman” who died was going into cardiac arrest when first responders got to her. After several minutes of CPR, they were unable to revive her, Smedley said.
Three other people in the house were evacuated and no other injuries were reported.
Montgomery County police say they’re now conducting a death investigation.

A man is facing arson charges after a fire at a condemned house in Pittsburgh.
Emergency crews were called to the 5100 block of Broad Street in Garfield at 2:21 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a house fire.
Firefighters reported a man was in the attic space when they arrived.
According to court documents, Michael Cosgrove, 61 of Arnold, was the man inside that building. They were able to get him out of the house and talk to him.
Police said he was using an open flame to burn insulation off of copper wires, which caused the fire.
There were already 2 other warrants out for his arrest.
Cosgrove was taken to the Allegheny County Jail without incident and faces charges of criminal mischief and arson.
Clayton firefighters were dispatched around 1:10 a.m. to the 5100 block of Seville Drive on reports of a house fire, according to a Montgomery County Regional Dispatcher supervisor.

No one was hurt in the Friday afternoon blaze on Churchill Downs Road that saw upward of 60 first responders alerted to the scene.
Investigators said the fire at the single-family home was accidental, and that its origin point was traced to a recycling bin located just outside the garage.
However, officials are still unclear on how exactly it started.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said in a social media post on Saturday that fire damages amounted to about $1 million, including $100,000 in contents.

A body was found Friday in the ruins of a San Rafael apartment complex destroyed in a fire on Thursday, authorities said.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the remains found were one of the two people listed as missing following the fire.
Earlier Friday, authorities said that investigators looking into the cause of the fire said investigators are now treating the fire as suspicious in nature. The fire at the three-story complex on Canal Street injured several people and displaced dozens of residents.
All 19 units at the complex were destroyed, officials said.

“As of this morning, based on preliminary information obtained by the Marin County Fire investigation team, the cause of this fire is changing from unknown to suspicious,” said San Rafael Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sinnott at a press conference Friday morning.
San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham said that the fire was suspicious based on how the fire burned and how fast it burned.
“We will make every effort to get answers, as our first priority is to be able to provide those answers to the victims that were affected, said Graham. “But it’s going to take some time, and as we go through this process, we ask for patience.”
Graham said investigators had to wait to fully enter the building because it was unstable after being gutted by the fire. Cadaver dogs were being used to help find the missing residents, while other canines were being deployed to search for traces of any accelerants.
The Marin County Fire Department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were assisting in the investigation, Graham said.
One person who was seriously injured in the fire and two others who suffered non-serious injuries were taken to a hospital. Five others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
One officer was minorly injured during the operation to rescue residents during the fire; he was expected to recover and return to work shortly, Graham said.

Naser Khanfar and Sara Jones, two Domino’s employees, are reportedly being hailed as heroes after they rescued an 8-year-old Chicago boy from a house fire.
How Did Naser Khanfar and Sara Jones, The Domino’s Employees, Save The 8-Year-Old?
According to PEOPLE, authorities received calls reporting a fire around 1:15 a.m. on Monday, October 7. The fire was reportedly located at a mobile home in Airway Mobile Home Community.
“We don’t believe the call came from the residence as the father and one of his sons were able to self-evacuate,” Oak Lawn Fire Department Chief Mike McMillin reported explained in a statement.
The father and his 12-year-old son were reportedly attempting to get the 8-year-old out of the mobile home when Khanfar and Jones noticed the scene, per the Chicago Tribune. The pair were reportedly closing a Domino’s location nearby.
“We saw the trailer on fire, and the father and his son were trying to get another son out through the trailer,” Khanfar explained to reporters. “The father and I broke the windows to help take the boy outside.”
The outlet reports that once firefighters arrived, they were able to extinguish the flames in about 30 minutes.
How Is The Child Doing After The House Fire?
According to NBC Chicago, the family’s trailer was “destroyed” after the incident. Per the Chicago Tribune, Khanfar told authorities once the boy was out of the mobile home, he noticed the 8-year-old was “shaking” and saw “some blood coming.”
Subsequently, the father and his sons were reportedly taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. They reportedly sustained “varying degrees of smoke inhalation.” Meanwhile, the father reportedly sustained “superficial burns on his neck and shoulders.” Despite this, he and his eldest child were reportedly treated and released.
Meanwhile, the 8-year-old was held for additional observation. According to PEOPLE, as of Friday, October 11, there have been no serious reports of injuries from the fire.
“It’s good that people are willing to get involved and help,” Chief McMillin reportedly added.
The Chicago Tribune notes that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A Recent Fire In Georgia Is Also Making Headlines
Meanwhile, a recent fire in Georgia has also made headlines. As The Shade Room previously reported, on September 29, a fire erupted at a BioLab in Conyers. This was reportedly caused by a sprinkler malfunction, which led to water mixing with water-reactive chemicals.
The incident ultimately led to residents being evacuated as fumes polluted the area.
On October 9, the Rockdale County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor, Kenny Johnson, reportedly passed away after speaking out about the incident. An autopsy is reportedly being performed on his body by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
EVELETH, Minn. — A 60-year-old man was seriously injured and a house was destroyed after a fire in Eveleth Friday morning.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says authorities were called to the 7100 block of Antoinette Road just before 11:30 a.m. on the report of a man laying at the end of a driveway with burns throughout his body.
The man was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshals Office is working with the sheriff’s office to determine the cause of the fire.
Nearly 20% of Minnesota, including Eveleth, is facing a severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
A house in Discovery Bay was destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning, according to fire authorities.
The house was destroyed as a result, but no injuries were reported. No one was in the home when firefighters arrived, but there was no information if anyone had evacuated before they arrived.
The Contra Costa Fire Protection District received multiple calls after midnight of flames coming from the roof of the house, which was between Brentwood and Discover Bay. The roof partially collapsed early in the incident, a spokesperson for the fire district said.
The fire was brought under control around 2 a.m. The fire did not spread to any other houses. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A man is in critical condition Saturday morning following an overnight house fire in Prince George’s County.
Firefighters were called to a single-family home on the 3500 block of De Pauw Place in College Park shortly after 5:15 a.m. When they arrived, A Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman said the fire was “well advanced,” which suggested that it had been burning for a while.
The spokesman said one man was in “very critical” condition after the fire. In total, the fire displaced four adults.
