  • I Thought 2-in-1 Products Were a Bust, But This Cleanser/Mask Is Everything

I Thought 2-in-1 Products Were a Bust, But This Cleanser/Mask Is Everything

One of my favorite things to brag about when I mention this product is just how clean it is. It’s made out of ingredients that you can see and feel that are also high performance. I asked the founder, Devanshi Garg, how this product came to be, and she told me everything.

“Cleansers are the first step in our skincare routines. I believe they can either set us up for a great skincare journey or potentially take us back a couple of steps, which we then must make up for. In spite of being ‘the most used category’ of any skincare product and one used by the largest range of skincare customers, ranging from least sophisticated to the most, cleansers and face washes are overlooked by brands and consumers alike,” she said. “Personally, I found that a lot of cleansers were either irritating my skin from fragrance, sulfates, or a high pH, or they were doing nothing. I was inspired to create a cleanser where one can see and feel a difference immediately—a product packed with such beautiful, high-performance ingredients [that] it becomes just as important to someone’s regimen as a good serum or moisturizer that they love.”

  • Drunk Elephant's Newest Moisturizer Gave Me Dewy Skin in the Middle of Winter

Drunk Elephant's Newest Moisturizer Gave Me Dewy Skin in the Middle of Winter

Drunk Elephant’s moisturizers have always been favorites of mine. The Protini Polypeptide Cream works wonders for firming skin, while the Lala Retro Whipped Cream is a restorative powerhouse. Its newest product, the Bora Barrier Repair Cream, couldn’t come at a better time for me. The ultra-rich cream promises 24 hours worth of deep moisture.

“It’s for chronically dry skin, it repairs the barrier,” says Tiffany Masterson, founder of Drunk Elephant. “It’s a much more reparative cream. There’s some confusion on social with the community [on] what’s the difference between Lala and Bora. It’s very simple—Lala is maintenance, Bora is repair. It really goes in and fixes the broken barrier and helps by giving the skin ingredients that it produces itself, along with some of these other great ingredients to help retain the moisture.”

  • This Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment Essentially Spun My Straw-Like Hair Into Gold

This Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment Essentially Spun My Straw-Like Hair Into Gold

What inspired you to create Stargloss?

I love hair oiling before a wash, and I love a traditional hair mask, but sometimes you don’t want to sit in the shower for that last extra step. I wanted to create something that you could easily apply to dry hair. Think of it like hair oil plus a buttery mask combined—something you apply before you go work out, clean, get the kids off to school, go on a walk, whatever! Then you shower and wash like normal! The result is super-shiny, soft hair, as if you just got struck by a shiny shooting star.

What sets it apart from other popular hair treatments on the market?

The format—I set out to do something completely different in the glossing and shine treatment category. I didn’t want to create another in-shower product, because I felt that would be too similar to a mask. I wanted something you could apply to dry hair before the shower, leave on for 20 minutes or longer (even overnight!), then shampoo and condition as usual. And OMG the results are amazing. Stargloss was born after many, many rounds and years of formulating to get it just right. It was not easy, but I would not give up!

What are some of the key ingredients in Stargloss, and why did you feel they were essential? Also, tell me about the cream’s subtle shimmer.

The cream texture that you apply to your dry hair is so creamy and so hydrating. It’s full of prickly pear and other nourishing and shine boosting oils that lock in and smooth the cuticle. The end result is unparalleled smoothness, silkiness, and shine. Plus, it’s clean!

As far as the glitter, I always want the actual product to be gorgeous. In this case, I played off the Stargloss name for inspiration and added subtle golden flecks, which are a surprise and delight for the consumer. They rinse right out, but they just make the experience of using the product dreamy and magical! I personally LOVE the soft golden flecks in the formula, so I like to slick my hair back in a bun and then run errands and go about my day.

  • I’m a Makeup Newbie, But Applying This Cream Shadow Made Me Feel Like a Pro

I’m a Makeup Newbie, But Applying This Cream Shadow Made Me Feel Like a Pro

Despite the infatuation I had with Urban Decay’s Naked Palette in high school (The YouTube-beauty-guru hype got to me), I do not enjoy the experience of applying eye shadow. Despite buying multiple brushes, I still never have the right brushes when it’s time to do my makeup. I always end up with product all over the floor, and I often blend too little or go overboard and end up with just one color of shadow across my lid. I’m a pro at perfecting a dewy base for the skin, and my winged-eyeliner game is strong, but eye shadow is just my makeup weakness. (We all have one.) While I can forego eye shadow in my everyday beauty routine, I still want a little something on my eyes for special occasions. I’ve already been an avid user of Kulfi’s kajal eyeliner, so when the South Asian brand released cream eye shadow, I knew it was something I had to try.

If you consider yourself an eye shadow connoisseur, I’m happy for you. If you’re a bit of a makeup klutz like me, you’re going to be thoroughly happy about this product.

  • I Bled From Chafing While Marathon Training—This Anti-Chafe Stick Worked Magic

I Bled From Chafing While Marathon Training—This Anti-Chafe Stick Worked Magic

When I first decided to run the New York City Marathon, I had no idea what I was in for. I knew that training would entail long, grueling runs and working out most days in between, but I didn’t expect a lot of the challenges that come with it. I’m talking shin splints, trialing a million handheld water bottles, and tons of exhaustion. One thing I really wasn’t expecting? The chafing

I’ve been a runner for a few years now, and I’ve run my fair share of half-marathons. Up until I started training for the full marathon, however, I’d never run more than a half-marathon, so I wasn’t sure how my body would react to longer distances. I’d never experienced much chafing on my runs, but once my milage started going up, I started chafing everywhere. I was getting chafed under my bra line, where my arms rubbed against my shirt, on my collarbones, and more. As the distances got longer, the chafing got worse—to the point where I would bleed. (I’ll save you the photographic evidence, but it was gnarly.)

As you can imagine, I tried everything to stop the chafing. I tried two of the leading anti-chafe sticks, and while they helped a bit, I still had angry welts after every run. In desperation, I was slathering myself in Vaseline—a bit more helpful, but it was staining my running clothes. I was ready to give up and accept that I would probably just have scars on my body from this training time, but then I remembered that one of my favorite sensitive-skin brands, First Aid Beauty, had an anti-chafe stick.

  • A Bad Dye Job Wrecked My Hair—These 3 Damage-Reversing Products Are Fixing It

A Bad Dye Job Wrecked My Hair—These 3 Damage-Reversing Products Are Fixing It

    Photo:

    Nikita Mehta

Nikita Mehta is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Fable & Mane. She started the brand with her brother, Akash, to share the traditional Indian hair care secrets.

I’d love to know more about the brand. What was the inspiration behind it?

“When Akash and I were children, Nani (grandma) would visit us from India and we’d sit in a hair-oiling train while she massaged our heads lovingly with a handcrafted blend of Ayurvedic plants and herbs. Her healing hands would help to melt away any feelings of stress or anxiety, and she’d tell us magical fables of India’s rich plant and animal kingdom. A few years ago, during a time of stress, I experienced hair loss so I went back to my roots to this time-tested ritual to help grow healthier, stronger, and more hydrated hair. We wanted to share these ancient rituals of Ayurveda and Indian beauty secrets with the modern, everyday consumer, and that’s how Fable & Mane was born.”

Can you tell me more about the Ayurvedic ingredients that are used and what makes them so beneficial for the hair and scalp?

“Our triple-A complex of amla, ashwagandha, and aloe is found in all Fable & Mane products for ultimate hair hydration, strength, and growth. Amla is nature’s miracle berry and a natural conditioner that’s rich in vitamin C. It’s brilliant for adding shine to lackluster locks and adding hydration to strands. Ashwagandha strengthens the scalp barrier and protects it from external stressors, making it brilliant for hair growth from the root. Finally, aloe is nature’s hydration hero – it gives hair that coveted natural gloss and shine, retains moisture in each strand, and is especially beneficial for sensitive scalps.”

Do you have any tips and tricks for using the HoliRoots Repairing Hair Mask?

“I always apply a generous amount on wet hair in the shower, but my favourite way to use this is on dry hair before a steam or sauna. I find the results last twice as long, I don’t need to put any product on after washing as my hair is already detangled and silky smooth and soft.”

What about the HoliRoots Pre-Wash Hair Treatment Oil?

“Not only is the HoliRoots Hair Oil great for weightless hair hydration and stimulating healthy hair growth, but it can be really grounding and a mindful experience. I always inhale the scent before applying, rubbing a few drops on my scalp with deep breaths. I also love to mix some of the oil with our hair mask for a double hydration mask which leaves my hair silky soft and smooth.”

What about the MahaMane Smooth & Shine Hair Oil?

“The best way to use this oil is to press it into the ends, rather than rub. Use it on the mid-lengths and ends on damp hair and blow-dry in. My hair is left frizz-free and it smells amazing!”

  • This Blurring Powder Will Be A Purchase I’ll Be Buying For The Rest Of My Life

This Blurring Powder Will Be A Purchase I’ll Be Buying For The Rest Of My Life

I’m what you might call a makeup enthusiast. Ever since I was younger I have had a love affair with getting ready. In my earlier years I would run to sephora or the beauty department of Nordstrom and always want to leave with something new that I haven’t tried yet. I would get so excited to test new products and see how they worked, see what I loved or what I hated, always hoping to find a new product to add to my holy grail list. As I got older and started figuring out which products really worked for me and let’s be honest as my makeup skills improved and I started my list of cant-live-without products that are always in my makeup bag. Number one on that list being the Makeup Forever HD Skin Matte Velvet Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder Foundation.

The look I’m always going for with my makeup is effortlessly-stunning (I know what you’re thinking, aren’t we all) and this product is absolutely key to getting that airbrushed, blurred, edited look but in real life. When I first put this powder on I audibly gasped, called my sisters and texted my group chat to spread the word that I had just found the dreamiest blurring powder on the planet. I knew I had found a product that I would be purchasing for the rest of my life. This product is no joke, and is one of the most popular products from makeup artists loved brand Makeup Forever. If you haven’t tried this powder yet, you can thank me later because trust me – you’re going to be obsessed.

  • I Was Bored With My Everyday Makeup—Until I Tried This $16 Best Seller

I Was Bored With My Everyday Makeup—Until I Tried This $16 Best Seller

    Photo:

    Amrita Mehta/About-Face

Since it’s been a while since I’ve last used such highly pigmented liquid eye shadows, I had to ask an expert for tips and tricks. Luckily, makeup artist Amrita Mehta was there to answer my call.

How do you recommend applying this product?

“The Matte Fluid Eye Paints can be applied in a variety of different ways. I recommend working in thin layers and varying your tools to achieve different results. You can take the applicator straight to your eyelid or use a palette for a more controlled/precise application. Using these eye paints with a fluffy brush will result in a sheer wash of color. A flat brush is great for a solid, opaque application. An angled brush or eyeliner brush are my go-tos for a thin wing, cat eyes, or a graphic liner (my personal favorite!). A pencil brush is ideal for a pop of color in your inner corner or on the lower lash line. Last but not least, your fingers are great for an easy allover color on the lid or an on-the-go application. The eye paints are multipurpose and I find a different way to use the product every time I pick it up.”

Is there a simple way to use this product for anyone who’s unfamiliar or inexperienced with liquid eye shadow?

“The Matte Fluid Eye Paint are great for beginners and experts alike. Though the pigmentation can seem a bit intimidating at first, the liquid formula allows for plenty of playtime before setting and easy cleanup of any mistakes. I recommend you start with less product and add more (if needed) as you go. Don’t be afraid to mix colors to tone down or amp up different shades to create exactly what you’re looking for. They’re extremely versatile and really allow you to experiment making it hard to ‘mess up.’”

Do you recommend using a primer beforehand?

“Primer is optional but not necessary; it’s really up to you! Using a primer may give you a smoother canvas and a little more ‘slip,’ making it easier to blend out; but even without it, the fluid formula allows for this. When I do include primer in the process, I love to use the Shadow Fix Eye Primer from About-Face, which is long-wearing and lightweight. Once the eye paints dry down, they set themselves! It’s long-wearing, meaning no budge and no smudge.”

Can they be layered or combined?

I love mixing the Matte Fluid Eye paints on a palette or the back of my hand to create custom colors. The product is buildable so layering is also not an issue. I suggest using small amounts of the eye paint at a time when layering to avoid excess product buildup or flaking. Try applying Fractal Glitter Eye Paints on top of the matte formula for sparkle, shine, and dimension!”

Can they be paired with powder eyeshadows?

“Definitely! You can layer a powder over the matte formula once they’ve dried down—after 20 to 30 seconds of playtime. Because of this, they also work great as an eye shadow base and help create extra vibrance and opacity that powder formulas alone sometimes lack.”

This Innovative Contour Stylus Makes Me Look Chiseled in 30 Seconds Flat

Keeping your face shape in mind is also important when contouring. Everyone’s face is different, and to enhance your features best, it’s important to follow your own bone structure. Since I have a heart-shaped face, I focus on my temples, forehead, and cheeks, but I also contour my jaw and nose to define them more—your face shape is just a guideline! Here’s a good playbook to follow for how best to contour your face based on your face shape, according to Seropian:

Round faces should contour the sides of the forehead, beneath the cheekbones, and along the jawline.

Square faces should contour the jawline (blend toward the chin to soften any harsh lines), the forehead, and beneath the cheekbones.

Oval faces should follow their natural bone structure.

Heart-shaped faces should contour the temples, forehead, and cheeks.

Diamond-shaped faces should contour the temples, cheeks, and jawline.

  • Somehow This Perfume Smells Like a Blank Sheet of Paper—I Can’t Stop Spraying It

Somehow This Perfume Smells Like a Blank Sheet of Paper—I Can’t Stop Spraying It

My lengthy love affair with Diptyque can be traced back to the rain-filled spring I spent in Paris, France. It was 2017, and I was spending three months in the City of Love and Light studying three decades of French fashion and the influence of new-wave cinema. The majority of my time was spent learning and living in the city’s historical fifth and sixth arrondissements among a collection of Paris’s most recognizable storefronts. I stood in awe in front of one of them—Diptyque’s original location at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain—more times than I can count.

Now, as a beauty editor, I’ve had the unique opportunity to experience the brand through a sweetly perfumed version of la vie en rose I’ve yet to depart from since my initial introduction. My admiration for Diptyque was further underscored by one of its newest releases, the L’Eau Papier Eau de Toilette. For those of you who didn’t take French in school, the product’s name translates to “water paper,” in reference to the simple act of artistic expression that is, in itself, creation.

Its unique bottle alone is an expression of this, featuring the abstract and dreamlike works by ink purist Alix Waline. The bottle’s double-paned design is also a tribute to creativity, with both sides decorated with the work of Waline. I was more than delighted to find that the layered and delicately balanced fragrance housed inside echoes the ode to creativity that reached far beyond my expectations.

  • If You Like Flawless-Looking Skin, You’re Going to Love This Foundation

If You Like Flawless-Looking Skin, You’re Going to Love This Foundation

I have always been a makeup person. When I was younger, I was a competitive dancer, and when we would get ready for competitions, shows, or recitals, we got to wear makeup for the performance. This was my introduction to makeup. Ever since I did my makeup in the dressing room before going onstage for my dance studio’s production of The Nutcracker, I’ve been hooked. The product that I’ve always cared the most about is foundation. After all, that is the base of your makeup look and the number one thing that can really throw your glam off. If the foundation isn’t the right shade, doesn’t blend well with your skin, isn’t full coverage enough, or is too full coverage, you may as well throw the whole makeup look away. Having the right foundation is key. Just like a building’s foundation, it’s the most important part because everything else falls apart without it.

For my own personal journey with foundation, I had a few hurdles to overcome.

First of all, I’m biracial, so finding a foundation that is my exact shade without being too orange or too gray has proven to be extremely difficult. However, I refuse to purchase two different shades and mix them together, as it’s important to me to shop beauty brands with a wide shade range and inclusivity in mind. When I find a brand that doesn’t have a shade for me, rather than giving them double the money for two products I have to mix together, I move on to a brand that values customers who look like me. Second, I struggle with acne scarring and discoloration, so I need a foundation that covers imperfections but still looks like skin. Lastly, I have oily skin, so I also need to make sure that the product is mattifying and glowy while not being too dewy so that my face isn’t an oily mess by lunchtime.

This was a lot to ask of one foundation, but I was determined to find one that checked all of my boxes, and luckily for me, I found it. Somewhere along the way while testing every long-wear foundation under the sun, I tried Nars’s Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation in the shade Tahoe and fell head over heels in love. That was it. I had found the foundation that I was going to be wearing for the rest of time.

  • I Went From Spending $100 to $6 on Cryofacials Thanks to This Innovative Brand

I Went From Spending $100 to $6 on Cryofacials Thanks to This Innovative Brand

How does skin icing with Frozen Essence work? What does it do?

It causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate, pulsing our carefully balanced ingredients deeper into the skin, where they act quickly to hydrate, firm, and reduce redness and imperfections. Skin icing with Frozen Essence also helps serums and moisturizers work better, which means it enhances nearly every traditional skincare routine.

At what point while creating the product did you feel like you were ready to share it with the world?

It took me and our team four years, as product development took more than two years. Ameon is a personal project that represents who I am as a woman and demonstrates what I value professionally. I wanted to create a brand with a soul where each product is a necessity. We launched in June 2022, and in July our Frozen Essence won the Cosmoprof Award in Las Vegas. Now, we are also excited to share that we are officially launching with Neiman Marcus this summer.

We are a niche brand that is produced locally. Our facility, packaging factory, and lab/manufacturer are located within a radius of 50 miles in New Jersey. We require more handwork. For example, the crystal on top of Holy Cream is assembled by hand. We opened a hidden spa room by appointment only in Equinox Rockefeller Center in New York to share the Ameon experience with customers, which allows them to learn more about the brand. We enjoy every step of the journey, and I want to run the business at my speed so I can experience every step of the process.

    Does it have long-term results?

Yes, when used consistently. Skin icing has a cumulative effect. We call it “ice glow.” Usually, I recommend skin icing as a course daily for a week and then two to three times a week when your skin needs extra love. Someone named our facial ice cubes a “cold roller on steroids” because of how powerful and transformative it is. Thanks to our formulas, they are activated by freezing.

  • I Gua Sha–ed Every Night Until My Wedding—The Results Have Me *Softly* Screaming

I Gua Sha–ed Every Night Until My Wedding—The Results Have Me *Softly* Screaming

Zheng said stagnant qi can manifest in dullness of the skin, puffiness, rough texture, and acne—check, check, check, and check. But honestly, after months of consistent practice, the results speak for themselves.

I wanted to feel sculpted. I wanted a chiseled jawline and to rid myself of puffy cheeks and a baby double chin by my wedding day. Done, done, and done. She’s bright, she’s smooth, and she’s snatched. And now, she’s officially hitched!

But here’s what I didn’t expect: I didn’t expect the textural differences and genuine smoothness. I didn’t expect the brightness nor the return of a natural flush that I might not have seen since my college days. And above all, I didn’t expect to feel uplifted in more ways than one.

As what we in the community call a “first-generation alpha daughter” with infinite caretaker duties moving through life at hyperspeed, I’m used to slapping on my seven-step skincare routine in five minutes or less and flopping on the bed past the point of exhaustion and calling that “self-care.” But something about this gua sha routine—call it the intentional focus on long-neglected acupuncture points or the art of practicing a centuries-long tradition that roots me in my ancestral past—honors traditions of my culture and connects me to my mother, aunties, and grandmothers through restorative beauty rituals. What started as a 10-minute routine has bloomed into a full-blown ritual.

So that leaves me with the final pro tip, courtesy of Zheng herself: go slow.

“This is one of my favorite elements of gua sha practice that I think people don’t often realize or think about. A big focus of mine recently has been nervous system regulation. In this current world that we live in, it’s very easy for our sympathetic nervous system—our fight-or-flight—to get activated, so I feel like practices like gua sha—which force you to slow down, to be really intentional, to think about your breathing, your body, and how you’re feeling—help activate the parasympathetic system, the rest-and-digest stage. That’s where healing and rest happen, so it’s really important to make sure that we’re intentionally bringing our body back into that state. In this world we live in, it’s really easy to always stay in a hyperactive flight-or-flight mode,” she says.

I renamed my gua sha routine “Rest and Digest” thanks to Zheng’s illuminating perspective, and I practice that intentionality like my life—or rather my qi—depends on it.

Every night, I put on an episode of a show (right now, it’s Never Have I Ever season four), snuggle under a cozy blanket with my dog, apply my toner, serum, and facial oil, and then glide my rose quartz Mount Lai gua sha slowly over each area of my face. I mentally digest my day—my celebrations and wins, my losses and learnings—and I wiggle away at my favorite acupuncture points (my temples and just below my ears), allowing the superficial concerns of the day to melt away. I close my eyes and breathe deeply. I imagine what it could have been like to wind down my evenings with my mother on our couch, unpacking our days together and grounding ourselves in the comfort of soft conversation. She has long since passed. I recall long-forgotten memories of watching my grandmother at her vanity as she glides her jade roller across her wrinkle-less cheeks with her eyes closed and picking up her jade gua sha with the wonder and confusion of a six-year-old child—“Careful, Mèimei. It’s fragile and precious.”

Does gua sha work? Yes, daily practice has yielded the snatched jawline and chiseled cheekbones that the beauty community loves to see! But it works for me in more ways than one. It grants me peace, clarity, restoration, and emotional connection to my culture in a way I didn’t know a simple beauty ritual could offer. And for those reasons alone, it’s a beauty ritual and piece of Chinese tradition that I intend on practicing (read: celebrating) every day.

  • This Blush-and-Lipstick Combo Creates Peak French-Girl Makeup, and I’m Obsessed

This Blush-and-Lipstick Combo Creates Peak French-Girl Makeup, and I’m Obsessed

Traditionally, French beauty has rested on a few foolproof pillars—namely tousled hair à la Jane Birkin, a fresh complexion à la Françoise Hardy, and effortless and slightly undone makeup à la Brigitte Bardot. Even when French women wear something bold, such as red lipstick, they still manage to do it in a way that feels natural and lived-in.

There’s just something about it that speaks to me, and because of that, I’ve spent countless hours reading articles, watching videos, and searching the internet to find the products French women trust. Somewhere along the way, I stumbled across Violette_FR, the YouTube channel belonging to a French makeup artist who creates impossibly chic and colorful looks for her clients, friends, and colleagues. Sure, I loved the looks, but I loved her easy-to-follow tutorials and effortless application techniques even more. For years, I followed her on social media to gain inspiration and product recommendations.

In 2021, Violette launched a namesake beauty brand. As you can imagine, I was excited. I mean, who wouldn’t want to use products formulated by one of their favorite makeup artists? I placed my first order, and the rest was history. Since then, two of the brand’s products have become makeup-kit essentials because they’re easy to use, require little-to-no touch-ups, and give me that French-girl effect that I love.

  • This Popular Cream Smoothed My Neck and Chest Lines in 4 Weeks—See My Results

This Popular Cream Smoothed My Neck and Chest Lines in 4 Weeks—See My Results

TL Advanced Tightening Neck Cream PLUS is specifically designed to target and improve lines, wrinkles, discoloration, dryness, loss of firmness, and crepey texture. And while the results supposedly really kick in at the two-month mark (consistency and patience are vital), I got results in as little as four weeks.

Of course, my before and afters are subtle—again, at 30, any lines, dryness, and texture issues are pretty minimal. But once I compared the photos I took four weeks apart (taken in the same light, at the same time of day, and with my skin just slightly more tan because… summer), I immediately noticed that the sleep-induced lines I wake up to each morning were significantly less deep, the loosening skin on my neck area (right under my chin) had practically disappeared, and even my smile lines (because I’m extra, and I decided to apply the cream wherever I saw fine lines on the lower side of my face) had practically vanished.

While these changes are slight and not something I noticed in my day-to-day testing, my unedited photos are proof. This stuff works, and if these were my results after just one month, I can only imagine what might happen after a few more months or a year of use. In my research phase, I noticed many reviewers scream in all caps, “THIS ACTUALLY WORKS,” or exclaiming that StriVectin’s neck cream “snatched” their neck. And now, I’m officially a believer.

  • Rose Inc’s Newest Lip Product Completely Changed My Mind About Liquid Lipsticks

Rose Inc’s Newest Lip Product Completely Changed My Mind About Liquid Lipsticks

Rose Inc began as a beauty publication that, in August 2021, expanded into a clean skincare and makeup brand. The Lip Cream follows this legacy to a tee. “What separates Lip Cream from other liquid lip products is the level of skincare ingredients used. In addition to our sustainable squalane (for weightless hydration), Lip Cream is infused with postbiotics and fermented botanicals,” he explains. These ingredients work in tandem to strengthen the moisture barrier while visibly smoothing and plumping the lips.

Like any lip product, the way you apply it makes a difference. Luckily, the Lip Cream is versatile, allowing its wearer to use it as a reflection of their personal makeup preferences. “For a soft and diffused lip, apply to the center of the lips and blend out using fingertips or a fluffy brush. It gives the perfect pop of color with an undone, just-kissed finish,” says Hoffman. “For a bold and saturated lip, apply Lip Cream using the tip of the applicator as a liner, then fill in the rest of the lips. Apply additional layers until the desired intensity is achieved for an intense, smoldering pout.” It’s as simple as that—very little effort for a big impact that lasts.

  • This Beloved “If You Know, You Know” Perfume Smells Like Plastic, and I Love It

This Beloved “If You Know, You Know” Perfume Smells Like Plastic, and I Love It

Seemingly built for long days in the great outdoors, Sunscreen wears for four to six hours—much less if you’re dipping in and out of the pool it begs to be worn in. There’s a faint, skin-like smell mixed with coconut that dries down after the initial projection fades away about an hour or two in.

Aside from the kitschy styrofoam packaging Sunscreen comes in, the fragrance’s sleek, discreet bottle is easily transportable. Although I wouldn’t recommend throwing it in haphazardly packed luggage for an international flight, the no-frills design meant I wasn’t constantly worried the bottle would break when I took it with me for overnight and weekend-long trips.

Unlike a few other signature scents I’ll wear for special occasions or on nights out, Sunscreen’s mild scent makes it an everyday fragrance for me. It’s not a punchy fragrance. Frankly, most people besides those you’re quite familiar with won’t notice it’s there after the initial spritz. At the end of the day, though, I’m wearing perfume for myself. Sunscreen’s subtle aroma feels like the olfactory version of a slight head nod and a knowing wink you’d get from someone you’re sharing an inside joke with. If you know, you know, and if you don’t, you don’t.

While there are a few scents and perfume houses the fashion crowd always swears by (Le Labo’s Santal 33 is becoming a cult classic among skaters and art gallery owners), Comme des Garçons Parfums and ERL’s collaborative scent is an underground favorite. Long gone are the days of head rush–inducing, mass-marketed fruity and floral scents. Summer break (and Sunscreen) forever.

  • I’ve Had an Uneven Skin Tone for Years—This Cult-Loved Serum Corrected It

I’ve Had an Uneven Skin Tone for Years—This Cult-Loved Serum Corrected It

I’m going to be honest. I’ve always been slightly lackadaisical in my approach to skincare. Well, that was until about five years ago—in my early 30s—when I saw huge changes in my skin tone and complexion. You see, in my early 20s, I was spoilt with compliments about how clear, bright, and glowing my skin was. Since I barely used any skincare products of note and my regimen consisted simply of cleansing and moisturizing, I boiled it down to genetics. My Latin American mother has amazingly smooth and radiant skin to this day. My Welsh father, however, passed along his rosacea cheeks. While I always had a nice olive glow, my cheeks flared red when triggered by specific factors.

In my 20s, I thought I was invincible! I didn’t pay much attention to my skin. I barely wore sunscreen. This is coming from someone who spent a large part of her 20s traveling outdoors for work and basically lived under the sun—without sunscreen. (Ugh, if only I could turn back time!) Fast-forward 10 years, and I have plenty of sunspots to show for it.

On top of this, I’ve had two babies in the past four years, which has been an absolute joy, but my skin has unquestionably taken a toll. I never knew just how much my skin would change after getting pregnant. Suddenly, I had pregnancy spots, or melasma—a common condition that causes skin hyperpigmentation (i.e. darkening). While it was mild and calmed slightly after pregnancy, I still have spots of slight discoloration. Add lack of sleep, stress, and a not-so-well-balanced, caffeine-heavy diet into the mix, and my skin has never looked so inflamed and uneven in tone and texture. Others couldn’t notice the change that much (thank god for makeup), but when I looked in the mirror sans makeup, I hardly recognized myself.

On a mission to get my uneven skin back on track, I actively sought out skincare products that could reduce my dark spots, improve my overall skin tone, and get my glow back. Call it kismet, but that week at a fashion event, I received a gift bag that had a little miracle in a white pot staring right at me—Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Dark Spot Serum Vitamin C Alternative. I looked up the product immediately, and after reading countless positive reviews about the cult-loved serum, I tried it. I’m on my third bottle now and have never looked back. I’m still astounded at how much it has improved my skin’s complexion. Below, I’ll be taking you through the ins and outs of the serum and delving into what makes it so good. Let’s get into it.

  • If Someone Told Me This Eye Shadow Only Cost $7, I’d Politely Call Them a Liar

If Someone Told Me This Eye Shadow Only Cost $7, I’d Politely Call Them a Liar

What makes it unique: “The color payoff is amazing, they blend out seamlessly, and they don’t fade throughout the day. Even though Super Shock shadows are only $7, they feel and perform like they’re way more expensive. They have a super-unique cream-to-powder formula that makes them super easy to apply—I even use a finger sometimes. This also means they don’t cause any fallout that will ruin your makeup, and once they dry down, they will last.”

Favorite shade: “My favorite shade is a light blue called Dream Much! I actually wore it to the premiere of Selena Gomez’s documentary My Mind & Me.

Most versatile shade: “Ladybird is the ultimate highlight shade that you can wear on its own or layer with other shadows. And it looks good on all skin tones!”

Perfect shade combo: “Summer is around the corner, and nothing is hotter than a shimmery, bronze eye. I would lay down DGAF from lid to crease and then pop a bit of Ladybird in the center of the eyelid and at the inner corner of the eye. Throw on two coats of mascara, and you’re good to go!”

  • I’ve Been Bleaching My Hair for a Decade—These 3 Products Reversed the Damage

I’ve Been Bleaching My Hair for a Decade—These 3 Products Reversed the Damage

What to avoid when trying to grow longer, thicker hair: “Be careful with heat-styling, and treat your hair as gently as possible, in general, when it comes to brushing and towel drying,” Larsen says. “Essential nutrients both internally and topically are also so important to ensuring you have gorgeous, fuller-looking hair.”

How this collection promotes hair growth and thickening:The idea behind our Volumizing Hair Collection is to protect existing hair and encourage volume and body,” says Larsen. “Scalp health starts with the right shampoo and conditioner—they should work synergistically and be designed specifically for the needs of fine and thinning hair.

How RevitaLash’s Volumizing Hair Collection differs from others on the market: “We created our Thickening Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner with specialized ingredients to optimize scalp health by cleansing and fortifying hair while protecting it from environmental stressors,” Larsen says. “When used together, these phyto-infused formulas fortify the cuticle and work to improve hair-shaft thickness. This unisex collection is a simple three-piece regimen. Our real star of the lineup, the Volume Enhancing Foam, is extremely lightweight and can be applied morning or night.”

How to use the three-step regimen: “Use the Thickening Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner as frequently as you typically wash and condition your hair, leaving each of these formulas on from the scalp to the tips of the hair for at least one to two minutes and massaging in circular motions before rinsing,” Larsen suggests. “The Volume Enhancing Foam, on the other hand, should be used daily whether hair is wet or dry. Depending on the length of your hair, you can pump this onto your fingertips or directly onto the scalp before massaging it thoroughly into the scalp and roots of the hair. This is a leave-in product and should not be rinsed out, so from there, you can style your hair as normal or hit the pillow, depending on the time of day you prefer to apply it.”

What to watch out for when using thickening products like these: “Most thickening hair products focus on opening the hair cuticle to have the hair appear thicker and fuller, which is only a surface-level treatment. It’s best to find one that nourishes the scalp and future hair growth because that is where you will see future results,” says Sheehan. “Pay attention to how your hair feels. With the cuticle of the hair open, your hair can release moisture, color (for color-treated hair), and be more prone to damage. For bleached hair, your cuticle is already damaged from the bleaching process, so be aware this could be damaging your hair more. Focus on heat protectants always and definitely moisture. Rosemary oil is great for the scalp and future hair fullness and growth. Finding a hair mask that can restore hair moisture while also treating the scalp with rosemary oil can really boost your success when using these products.”

How long until users can expect to see results after using the line: “Individual results will vary, but users will be thrilled with seeing instant benefits that increase over time,” says Larsen. “In a four-week consumer study with 33 participants using our Volume Enhancing Foam, 97% said their fine hair looked and felt fuller and more voluminous, 94% said thinning hair looked thicker, healthier, and nourished, and 85% said that their fine, thinning hair around their hairline looked fuller and is less brittle.”
