  • We ID’d 10 Reed Diffusers Fashion People Love to Keep in Their House

We ID’d 10 Reed Diffusers Fashion People Love to Keep in Their House

Reed diffusers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have three main components: fragrance oil crafted from a mixture of essential oils, reed sticks (which are traditionally made from natural rattan reeds) to soak up and disperse the scent, and a vessel to hold the oil and reeds in place. As with anything, having a general understanding of how to use your reed diffuser can help you get the most out of it. To set up your diffuser, place a few paper towels or a reed diffuser tray to catch any spills. To begin, gently remove the seal on the oil jar or vessel, paying particular attention to its level.

Next, place the reed sticks in the vessel so that one end is submerged in the fragrance oil while the other end is exposed to the air. Each reed has small pores that allow the fragrance oil to be absorbed and travel to the top half of the stick. For a fresh burst of fragrance, the sticks should be rotated every one to two weeks. This helps prevent the reeds from getting clogged! To do this, simply take the reeds out and put the dry end into the vessel.

Once the fragrance oil has reached the part of the reed that’s outside of the bottle, it will evaporate and release scent molecules into the air for a constant, fresh scent ideal for anywhere you’d like to maintain a delightful fragrance with little-to-no effort.

Clean Ingredients: Honestly, the scent matters the most to me, but it’s also a big bonus that the formulation is clean. If you’re trying to use more clean products, I’ve heard that laundry detergent is one of the best categories to start in in terms of impact because you’re wearing your clothes washed in the detergent all day. Conventional detergents have a lot of toxic chemicals, and this has nontoxic, biobased ingredients that are safe for sensitive skin, babies, and pets. It also happens to be cruelty-free, vegan, and hypoallergenic.

It Works: I know laundry detergent is also supposed to clean your clothes, not just make them smell good, and for me, Dirty Labs delivers in this category, too. It cleans my clothes just as well as the detergents I’ve used before.

Environmentally Friendly: The formula is super concentrated, unlike more traditional detergents, so you can get the same number of loads out of a much smaller bottle. Smaller packages equal a lower carbon footprint, and the aluminum bottles can be infinitely recycled too. As someone who is suspicious of using only a small (concentrated) amount of detergent—Will my clothes be clean enough? Will they smell nice?—I can confirm the answers are yes and yes with about a third the volume of detergent I would use with other brands.
