  • BottleRock Napa Valley delivers one of its best lineups to date

BottleRock Napa Valley has released its 2026 lineup.

And it’s one of the best in the storied history of the festival.

That has so much to do with the inclusion of Lorde, the incredibly talented modern rock/pop entertainer whose latest release, “Virgin,” came in at No. 1 on our list of the best albums of 2025. Lorde also put on one of the top concerts we saw last year — back in October at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley.

The second BottleRock Napa headliner that really has us excited is the Backstreet Boys, the legendary “boy band” known for such glistening pop hits as “I Want It That Way,” “Bye Bye Bye” and — ranking in as one of the finest ballads of the ’90s — “Quit Playing Games (with My Heart).”

Other top names on the bill include Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters — which is making its third appearance at BottleRock, following headlining slots in 2017 and 2021 — as well as Teddy Swims, LCD Soundsystem and SOMBR.

Further down the bill, you’ll find plenty of other cool acts — Lil Wayne, Chaka Khan, Rilo Kiley, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, etc. — which combine to make this one of the strongest BottleRock bills in years.

The complete lineup is listed below.

Tickets for this three-day music (and so much more) festival — which runs May 22-24 at the Napa Valley Expo in downtown Napa — start at $475 per person and go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 14, BottleRockNapaValley.com.

No word on when, or if, single-day tickets will be released. Individual daily lineups will be announced in the weeks to come.

  • Storied Bay Area music venue to reopen under new name, ownership

Get ready for the next chapter in the history of one of the Bay Area music scene’s most storied addresses.

Best known for hosting Boz Scagg’s legendary Slim’s hotspot for decades, and then a more recent (and much shorter) stint as YOLO Nightclub, the venue located at 333 11th St. in San Francisco will now transform into the home of The Budda.

The venue’s name references East Bay rapper Budda Mack, who is backing the new club.

“San Francisco, Bay Area get ready for the opening of my night club in SF,”
Mack posted on Instagram. “January is about to be different. A new chapter is opening with THE BUDDA night club 333 11th street San Francisco CA — a new club bringing energy, culture, and unforgettable nights to the city.

“This isn’t just another venue, it’s a movement. Lock in, stay tuned, and prepare yourself… THE BUDDA is coming.”

  • Neighborhood Nip Foundation and Think Watts Foundation hosts turkey giveaway

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Neighborhood Nip Foundation hosts its first-ever Turkey Giveaway at the future site of the foundation’s headquarters on Crenshaw and Slauson, passing out 5,000+ turkeys in partnership with the Think Watts Foundation.

The giveaway was located at the new reconstructed Nipsey Hussle Square, the original location of the Marathon store on Crenshaw and Slauson.

The foundation was founded after the late Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle passed away in 2019. His brother Samiel Asghedom, also known as Blacc Sam, is making sure the marathon continues for his brother’s legacy.

“We’re actually trying to plan for next year,” said Asghedom. “Being able to get out here and activate with thousands of turkeys is a blessing.”

Founder of Think Watts, Stix, is touched by how one conversation brought this event into fruition.

“We know had a conversation about doing something for the community and this is the first of that conversation,” he said. “That is giving out turkeys with all of the sides for everyone that need it.”

The ABC7 street team was also onsite distributing 500 ABC7 grocery tote bags to help everyone bring home their Thanksgiving meal.

  • Bling Bling Vs. The Tank: Verzuz Makes Epic Return With Cash Money & No Limit Records Battle

The highly anticipated No Limit and Cash Money Verzuz has officially gone down. The return of Verzuz was marked by an epic musical clash between two Southern rap titans, igniting a nostalgic celebration of New Orleans hip-hop history.

    Source: Denise Truscello

The Verzuz brand, co-founded by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, made its grand return after a three-year hiatus, hosting the event live at ComplexCon in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 25. According to theGrio, the decision to pit two New Orleans-based labels against each other while holding the event in Vegas was a unique touch, coinciding with the “HBCU Classic” game between Grambling and Jackson State at Allegiant Stadium earlier that day.

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland emphasized the purpose of the expansive relaunch in a joint statement, saying, “Rather than talking so much, we just want to get to the action.” The event was streamed live on Apple Music, bringing the face-off to a global audience.

The No Limit And Cash Money Verzuz Highlights A Legacy Of Bling Bling And Camouflage

The cultural significance of this No Limit and Cash Money Verzuz matchup cannot be overstated. During the ’90s and early 2000s, Cash Money and No Limit were synonymous with defining Southern hip-hop style and sound, influencing everything from fashion to the popularity of “bling bling.”

Both labels boast a who’s who of hip-hop royalty. Complex reports that Cash Money, led by Birdman, brought out heavyweights like Juvenile, B.G., and Mannie Fresh. The label is famously responsible for launching the careers of giants like Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. On the other side, Master P‘s No Limit Records, known for its iconic tank logo, featured his Mia X, Silkk the Shocker, and Master P himself. Master P acknowledged the shared legacy, saying in an interview earlier that week, “We definitely two companies that came up in New Orleans and created empires… So my hats go off to Birdman and Cash Money, as well as my No Limit army, all my soldiers, everybody that represented us for so long.”

The crowd inside ComplexCon was electric as the two Louisiana heavyweights traded hit after hit, including classics like Juvenile’s “400 Degreez” and “Back That Azz Up,” alongside No Limit anthems like “Make Em Say Unh” and “I’m Still Fly.” Adding major star power to the No Limit side was Snoop Dogg, who made a surprise appearance, stepping out to perform the classic C-Murda anthem “Down 4 My N****z.” Snoop’s presence carried extra weight due to his history with the label, as he signed with Master P’s No Limit after leaving Death Row Records in the 90s, which helped to further his career.

The Verzuz format, which evolved from a virtual hit battle on Instagram during the COVID-19 pandemic to a full-fledged in-person production, is known for its viral moments. Some of the most recognized battles include R&B favorites, Brandy and Monica, who faced off in September 2020, Ne-Yo versus Johnta Austin, Ashanti versus Keyshia Cole, Jeezy versus Gucci Mane, Snoop Dogg versus DMX, and the beginning of it all—Swizz Beatz versus Timbaland.

  • Philly’s Power 99 to start airing syndicated talk show ‘The Breakfast Club’

Philadelphia hip-hop and R&B station Power 99 is transitioning away from its long-running morning show to start broadcasting the syndicated New York radio show “The Breakfast Club.”

The Bala Cynwyd-based FM station, owned by iHeartMedia, announced the move Friday and said “The Breakfast Club” will start airing in Philly, South Jersey and Delaware on Monday morning. The weekday show runs from 6-10 a.m.

The programming change comes days after iHeartMedia laid off talent at stations across the country. The cuts included Power 99 hosts Mikey Dredd and MuthaKnows, who started their “Rise & Grind Morning Show” at the station in 2011 after years together hosting “The Hot Boyz” show on weeknights.

“The Breakfast Club,” which debuted in 2010 on Manhattan’s Power 105.1, is hosted by the trio of Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy and Jess Hilarious. The show is known for boundary-pushing gossip, entertainment news and high-profile guests that have included former president Barack Obama and former Democratic presidential nominees Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton.

Philly natives Kevin Hart, Will Smith and Patti LaBelle are among a long list of artists and comedians who have made appearances on the show in years past.

“The Breakfast Club” reaches an audience of 6.6 million monthly listeners and has been streamed more than 1 billion times on its podcast, according to iHeartRadio data. The show now airs in more than 90 markets. Charlamagne and DJ Envy both entered the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020.

In a statement Friday announcing the move to Power 99, iHeartMedia executive vice president of programming Thea Mitchem called “The Breakfast Club” a “cultural touchstone.”

“Its unique blend of candid conversation, humor and insight keeps it as relevant today as ever, shaping culture while giving a platform to voices that matter,” Mitchem said.

The hosts of “The Breakfast Club” have sometimes been embroiled in public feuds with their guests, including Charlamagne’s intervention in a past beef between Philly rappers Meek Mill and Beanie Sigel. In a tense 2016 interview with Sigel, Charlamagne called the rapper a “hater” for taking shots at Meek Mill, who also has appeared on the show several times over the years.

More recently, Meek Mill criticized the show’s hosts after they discussed his commentary on the federal sex trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs. During Combs’ trial in May, the hosts of “The Breakfast Club” brought up past speculation about Meek Mill’s relationship with the convicted hip-hop mogul. Combs was sentenced last week to spend 50 months in federal prison.

In a 2023 lawsuit filed against Combs, public court documents contained alleged details about the rapper’s infamous parties at his home in the Hamptons. In the court filings, the redacted name of “a Philadelphia rapper who dated Nicki Minaj” prompted rumors about Meek Mill’s sexual orientation after the lawsuit alleged Combs had sex with the unnamed rapper. Meek Mill dated Minaj about a decade ago.

Meek Mill posted about the trial on social media in May, saying hip-hop blogs had “amplified an agenda” against him two years ago. The hosts of “The Breakfast Club” later spoke on their show about how Meek Mill’s ties to Diddy had largely faded from public discussion by the time of Combs’ trial. They wondered why Meek Mill, who has become a well-known advocate for criminal justice reform since serving time in prison, would have bothered to enter the fray again.

Meek Mill responded to becoming a topic on the show in a comment posted on Instagram and later shared on Facebook by DJ Envy.

“… I been saving communities and helping families 10 plus years,” Meek Mill wrote. “We don’t follow the world of talkers.”

The layoffs at iHeartMedia come in advance of the company’s third-quarter earnings report, which is around the same time the nation’s largest radio station owner made cuts last year. The company underwent restructuring when it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019 and has made several rounds of layoffs in recent years.

Mikey Dredd and MuthaKnows both posted on social media after learning they had been let go from Power 99.

“After 30 unforgettable years at Power 99, today I say goodbye to a place that became much more than just a job,” Dredd wrote. “From nights and mornings on air for 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of connecting not only with an incredible audience but also with friends and colleagues who became family. The deep relationships I’ve built, both inside and outside the station, have filled my life with true joy and love.”
