Hilary Swank Reveals Why She Waited To Become A Mom At 48

Hilary Swank is ready to be a mom.

The two-time Oscar winner recently revealed that she and husband Philip Schneider are expecting twins. Swank, 48, spoke to “Extra!” last week about why now is the right time for her to become a parent.

The “Boys Don’t Cry” star said it all boiled down to “having a career and not having the right relationship.”

“You know, all the elements need to come together and be right,” she said, adding that motherhood is something she’s thought about since she was young.

“It’s just nice to be here and just be pregnant,” the actor added.

Swank tied the knot with Schneider in 2018, two years after they met. She was married to actor Chad Lowe from 1997 to 2007, and was briefly engaged to former tennis pro Ruben Torres in 2016.

She announced her pregnancy earlier in October while appearing on “Good Morning America” to promote her new show “Alaska Daily.”

“I’m so happy to share it with you and with America right now, this is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time, and my next thing is I’m gonna be a mom,” the actor said. “I’m going to be a mom. And not just of one, but of two. I can’t believe it.”

Swank said during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” that twins run in her family and Schneider’s.

The twins also may share a sentimental connection to Swank’s side of the family, as the actor said her due date is her late father’s birthday.

“It’s so beautiful,” Swank told “Extra!” “My dad, he was really one of my most favorite people in the world, so it is kind of just this tribute of life with them being born on this birthday.”

The “Million Dollar Baby” actor took three years off from acting to care for her father, retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Stephen Michael Swank, who died in October 2021.

“I had a rather unique relationship with him, as I was his sole caretaker after a lung transplant seven years ago,” Swank said in a poignant Instagram post announcing her father’s death.

“I grew incredibly close to him during this time, deepening our relationship and savoring every moment we had together,” she continued. “He will always remain one of my most favorite persons and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him.”

Hilary Swank talks filming new series while expecting twins

Hilary Swank has announced she’s pregnant with twins and says that revelation might explain some of her actions on set of her new ABC series “ Alaska Daily.”

“You don’t tell for 12 weeks for a certain reason. But then, like, you’re growing and you’re using the bathroom a lot and you’re eating a lot. I’m sure there’s been conversations, and when I get back to the set, people will be like, ‘Oh, it all makes sense now,’ the two-time Oscar winner said Wednesday during press interviews in New York.

“There was a moment just last week when my pants didn’t fit anymore and I had to like cut … my pants and then I put a jacket on over it like I had to hide it, right? And the continuity (person) was like, ‘That doesn’t match’ (a previous take.) And I’m like, ‘Oh, you know, it’s OK, it’ll work.’ And they’re like, ‘No, it doesn’t match.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, I think it’s OK.’ I think we can make it work.′ And she’s like, ‘Well, you’re an executive producer, so you can do what you want, but that doesn’t work.’ I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I have to be able to tell people soon,’” she said, laughing.

Swank, 48, just finished filming the fifth episode of the series, which debuts Thursday on ABC and says she looks forward to “seeing how much my body’s changed. It’ll be interesting to see.”

“Alaska Daily” is created by and co-executive produced by Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”, “Stillwater”) who also wrote and directed the first episode. It follows Swank as an investigative journalist named Eileen who gets lured to Alaska by a former colleague to look into an ongoing case of murdered Indigenous women.

The story is based on a real decades-old problem of missing and murdered Alaska Native women and Swank hopes the show might put a spotlight on these cases.

“At this moment, it’s happening and nothing’s being done about it. So as we continue down this road, hopefully shining a bright light on this … we can hopefully down the line start saying, ‘Look, something’s being done now.’”

Swank’s character is a seasoned reporter who arrives in Anchorage confident in her abilities, even if the locals are skeptical of this newcomer.

“She has done it for a long time. She doesn’t suffer fools. She calls out B.S. when she sees it. She just speaks her mind,” Swank said. “A lot of people call her rude, yet if she were a man, no one would call her rude. … Probably five years ago there wouldn’t be a female character like this on television. So it’s nice to be stepping into these new waters and to have that opportunity to do that,” said Swank.

Filming a TV show requires long hours, which makes this expectant mother respectful of those who work while pregnant.

“I’ve never been pregnant before and being able to now have a deeper understanding of what women have gone through for so long, the naseousness and the exhaustion, and especially in the first trimester,” Swank said.

“We work 15 hour days and a TV series is like a marathon, so some day are six day weeks and we have 30 minute lunches. And look, I’m not complaining because I love my job, but when you ask, like, ‘What is it like to be pregnant during that?’ It’s definitely a different set of circumstances.”

Hilary Swank is going to be a mom ― of two!

The “Million Dollar Baby” actor, 48, announced on Wednesday that she and her husband, Philip Schneider, are expecting twins.

“I’m so happy to share it with you and with America right now, this is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time, and my next thing is I’m going to be a mom,” the Oscar winner announced on “Good Morning America.” “I’m going to be a mom ― and not just of one but of two. I can’t believe it.”

Swank, who’s in her second trimester, said in another interview that she’s “feeling great right now” and that twins run in her husband’s family.

“It’s a total miracle. It’s unbelievable,” she said of being pregnant with two babies.

Swank and Schneider, an entrepreneur, have been married for four years. They wed in a redwood grove in Carmel, California, in 2018, two years after they met on a blind date in 2016.

“It was a blind date set up by actor Misha Collins’s wife, Vicki, and another close friend, Jean. We met at 10 a.m. and parted ways at 11 p.m.,” Swank said of their first date, a bottomless brunch. “We clearly enjoyed our time!”

Swank was previously married to actor Chad Lowe, from 1997 to 2007.

Swank stars in the new TV drama “Alaska Daily,” which premieres Thursday on ABC. In it, she portrays an investigative journalist seeking a fresh start in Anchorage. Swank has won two lead actress Oscars, for “Boys Don’t Cry” in 1999 and “Million Dollar Baby” in 2004.

Hilary Swank announces she is pregnant with twins

    [ad_1]

Actress Hilary Swank announced big news on Wednesday — the 48-year-old is welcoming twins. Swank posted a video of herself holding her belly on Instagram. “Coming soon…DOUBLE feature!” she wrote in the caption.

Swank married Philip Schneider, a social venture entrepreneur, in 2018, according to Entertainment Tonight.

During an interview with “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, Swank shared that she was going to be a first-time mom to twins. “It’s so nice to be able to talk about it, share it,” she said.

The Oscar winner also spoke about her pregnancy during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” on Wednesday. She said she is in her second trimester and “feeling great right now.”

She joked that her clothes don’t fit anymore and she had to cut her jeans open while on set for her new show “Alaska Daily.”

After winning her first Academy Award for “Boys Don’t Cry,” she went on to win again for “Million Dollar Baby.” She took a three-year gap from acting to care for her ailing father, but returned in 2018 for the film “What They Had,” playing a woman caring for her mother who has Alzheimer’s disease.

“My dad was really fighting for his life and I was really thankful I got the opportunity to be able to take time off work to care of him. But it very much mirrored the story in a way having a crisis in a family and how the family comes together and it shines a bright light on the strengths and weaknesses of a family,” Swank told “CBS Mornings” at the time.

Swank revealed last year her father had died and honored him earlier this week with a post on Instagram. “I can’t believe it’s been a year since you’ve transitioned. You are missed beyond measure and forever in my heart,” she wrote.
