  • Helldivers 2’s Mega Worm Has Been Killed, But It Took 10 Nukes

    [ad_1]

After a new Helldivers 2 update, players are discovering that developers Arrowhead have sneakily added a massive and nearly impossible-to-kill super worm, known as the Hive Lord, to the online sci-fi shooter. But one team has felled the beast, though it reportedly took nearly a dozen nukes.

On September 2, PlayStation and Arrowhead pushed out a new, free Helldivers 2 update known as “Into The Unjust.” This big update, available now on PS5, Xbox, and PC, added intricate caves to explore, new missions to complete, and a little surprise. Well, more of a big surprise. The Hive Lord, a bug the size of a skyscraper, is now an enemy you might encounter in Helldivers 2.

While the Hive Lords appeared in the first Helldivers, they hadn’t yet shown up in the sequel. Hive Lords were hinted at in the update’s trailer and have been teased in-game since launch. But Arrowhead didn’t officially list the new massive enemy in the game’s patch notes, so some players discovered the Hive Lords completely by chance and were shocked by their scale. These things are big. Huge. Easily the largest enemy in Helldivers 2. And they are very hard to kill.

At first, players weren’t even sure Hive Lords could be killed, with some reporting the beasts had survived tactical nukes and many, many bullets. But players spotted that sometimes a bullet would penetrate the beast’s armor and that it did react to explosions. “If it bleeds, it can be killed” became a rallying call under some posts of Hive Lords laying waste to players and vehicles. Even still, some weren’t sure. Maybe it was too much for the forces of democracy to handle.

Eventually, one squad of brave and dedicated Helldivers killed a Hive Lord, likely becoming one of the first teams, if not the first team, to do so. According to one of the people involved with killing the massive sand worm, it took 10+ Hellbombs, 8+ 500KG bombs, and “a ton of Ultimatums and Spears/RRs.” According to IsJustSophie, one of the Hive Lord slayers, “I shat my pants when it burst out of the ground.” Seems like a totally fair and reasonable reaction to encountering a massive god worm.

  • Helldivers 2 Out on Xbox Today – Welcome to Boot Camp – Xbox Wire

    [ad_1]

    Weapons

Get your hands on the most advanced, experimental, and explosive weaponry ever devised — from assault rifles to machine guns, energy blasters and even hand-to-hand melee weapons.

Each has their own stats and traits, and many can be customised from the Armoury Terminal on your Super Destroyer when you reach level 10 – Sergeant.

New recruits receive standard-issue equipment but can spend Super Credits, or Medals earned completing objectives, on gear from the Acquisition Centre.

Top tip: Friendly fire isn’t very friendly and is distinctly un-democratic.

    Stratagems

The silver bullet in your arsenal. The doomsday device in the palm of your hands.

Stratagems are your gamechangers – immensely powerful, limited-use weapons, reinforcements and ballistics summoned from your Super Destroyer using unique sequence codes.

Rain down freedom from above with Orbital Bombardments, cheat death with Shield Generator Packs, tear your targets apart with Autocannon Sentries, and much more.

Top tip: Practice makes perfect. Try out Stratagem codes on your ship before deployment.

    Armour

Sprint or stomp across the battlefield with specialist armour for every tactical manoeuvre.

Light armour keeps you mobile but won’t take much damage, heavy armour keeps you breathing longer but limits your movement, and medium armour is a blend of both.

Check the protection, speed and stamina regen stats when choosing your combo – and look out for Armour Passives, special abilities for specific armour types

Top tip: Dress for the occasion – environmental conditions matter!

  • Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST – The Crossover You’ve Been Waiting for Arrives August 26 – Xbox Wire

    [ad_1]

Helldivers 2 arrives on Xbox Series X|S next week, August 26 – and it’s dropping in with a magnificently Xbox-themed surprise. Introducing the Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond, a collection of equipment you might just recognize.

In the world of Helldivers, ODST stands for “Obedient Democracy Support Troopers.” As every good soldier knows, nothing is more important than complete and total obedience in support of Democracy. This set of gear is inspired by storied heroes, and will allow you to join the ranks of the best-of-the-best. Of the best.

Comprising four weapons, two armor sets, and more, this Warbond will let you outfit yourself like those heroes. Let’s dive into what’s included:

Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Weapons

    • MA5C Assault Rifle – An iconic rifle; the definition of reliable and having taken down countless aliens bent on wiping out humanity, it is time to turn its sights on enemies of Managed Democracy. It comes equipped with the convenient ammo counter and a built-in compass – let it guide you to victory.
    • M7S SMG – Silent and deadly, with caseless ammo and a non-removable suppressor; this weapon is ready to spread Freedom to every corner of the galaxy.
    • M90A Shotgun – This powerful shotgun carries a kick and has a handy flashlight mounted on it so you can see the fear in your enemies’ eyes before you teach them a valuable lesson about Liberty.
    • M6C/SOCOM Pistol – They say keep your friends close and your sidearm closer. Well, we say that. The standard-issue ODST sidearm is your silent ally in the field – equipped with a built-in laser sight, flashlight, and, for the first time in Helldivers 2, a suppressor to support stealth gameplay. Because sometimes the best way to enforce Peace is quietly…

Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Armor

    • A-9 Helljumper – Debuted during the New Mombasa Armor Show, this sleek ensemble is sure to turn heads and blow minds.
    • A-35 Recon – Made famous by the Ministry of Intelligence’s hide-and-seek-and-destroy champion of ’52, this armor has been improved by removing excess shoulder protection.
    • Feet First Armor Passive – Applied to both the above armor sets, this passive allows your Helldiver Helljumper to make less noise when moving, become immune to leg injuries, and increases the range of discovering points of interest by 30%.

Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Capes and More

    • Honored Heirloom Cape – Should the wearer of this cape perish at the hands of Freedom’s enemies, it is customary to pass the cape on to their bravest child during the funeral, inspiring the next generation to take up arms.
    • Eye of the Clandestine Cape  – Those who serve Liberty from the shadows often elect to stay anonymous, moving like traceless spectres through the night. May they watch over us always.
    • More! – The Warbond will also include ODST-themed player cards, a new player title, “Rookie”, and new vehicle pattern in a very familiar color known as Mean Green.

    Legendary Warbonds

For those who haven’t played Helldivers 2 before, Warbonds are optional collections of rewards that can be purchased through the in-game Acquisitions Center. The content inside is unlocked gradually by playing, but you never need to worry about missing your chance – Warbonds don’t expire, meaning you can take as long as you need to get all the goodies inside.

Legendary Warbonds are a brand new tier for the game. The Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST Legendary Warbond can be unlocked for 1,500 Super Credits (which can be found in-game, or purchased separately). Be aware, Legendary Warbonds can’t be unlocked with the new Premium Warbond Tokens, also launching on August 26.

  • Helldivers 2 PC players suddenly have to link to a PSN account and they’re not being chill about it

Helldivers 2 PC players suddenly have to link to a PSN account and they’re not being chill about it

    [ad_1]

Linking to a random third-party account when you just want to play a video game you paid for is truly annoying and, honestly, keeps me from even launching certain games by certain publishers who shall remain nameless. Helldivers 2 players are experiencing this frustration right now, as the PC version of the massively popular third-person shooter .

New players will be required to link both accounts on May 6, but pre-existing players have until June 4 before the requirement kicks in. Sony says that forcing people to link to a PSN account helps “protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behavior.” Ah, the popular “few bad apples” excuse.

This was always the plan, according to publisher Sony, but “technical issues” upon launch forced a delay in the linking mandate. In other words, when the PC version came out on February 8, you could just play it like any other game as nature intended, but now you gotta do the whole “insert credentials” rigamarole. This can be time-consuming, particularly if you don’t already have a PSN account or if you’re playing on something like a Steam Deck. Also, some regions where Helldivers 2 is available on PC .

This has royally pissed off PC players, though it’s worth noting that it’s free to make a PSN account. This has led to and many promises to abandon the game when the linking becomes a requirement, . The frustration over adding yet another barrier to entry after downloading an 80GB game to fears that the PSN account would likely be hacked. While it is true that Sony was the target of a huge hack that impacted 77 million PSN accounts, that was back in 2011. Obama was still in his first term. Also worth noting? , impacting 35 million accounts.

So maybe gamers are taking things a bit too far here and many are likely to not follow through with promises to stop playing Helldivers 2. That doesn’t change the fact that account linking is annoying. On the plus side, Sony recently promised to as soon as possible, and Helldivers 2 was a day-one release on both Steam and PlayStation consoles. That’s a neat little promise to keep, now where’s Spider-Man 2?

  • Upcoming Game Delays Release To Avoid ‘Busy’ February

Upcoming Game Delays Release To Avoid ‘Busy’ February

    [ad_1]

The Thaumaturge, an upcoming narrative-focused, turn-based RPG, was planned to launch in just a few days on February 20. However, the game has now been delayed until March as the developers and publishers hope to avoid a “busy” February and give the game more “breathing room.”

As we warned late last year, the first few months of 2024 have been stacked with popular video game releases. This is bad news for folks hoping they could catch up on their 2023 backlog in what is usually a quiet time for the game industry, as the first weeks of 2024 have already delivered hits like Palworld, Helldivers 2, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Tekken 8, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. And the rest of February isn’t empty, with games like Pacific Drive, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Star Wars Dark Forces remastered, and Skull and Bones all launching before March 1. As a result of this packed start to the year, The Thaumaturge is going to wait for the dust to settle a bit.

On February 12, developer Fool’s Theory and publisher 11 Bit Studios announced on Twitter and explained in a press release that even though The Thaumaturge is already in the hands of some critics, it was going to be delayed until March 4 in order to avoid all this chaos.

“Taking February’s busy launch period into account and the opening for a better release window,” the two companies said in a statement, “we’ve decided to take this opportunity to give more breathing room so it receives the attention we believe it deserves. We want you to have enough time to enjoy the game in full, and we feel that the current release window is not the perfect moment for it.”

While folks who have been waiting to play the game are probably a bit sad that they have to wait about two weeks longer, it’s a smart move to get away from so many big and small hit games and try to find a bit of a gap in the release schedule to give your game a better chance to find an audience, as well as the attention of over-worked critics and content creators. We’ll have to wait and see if the move pays off.

The Thaumaturge, an isometric RPG set in 1905 in an alternate-universe Poland filled with magical powers and tough choices, will now arrive on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 4.
