Kim Kardashian’s Invisible-Strap Heels Are Playing Tricks on Our Eyes

It’s a miracle Kim Kardashian made it through the CFDA Awards without breaking an ankle. The Skims founder attended the Nov. 6 ceremony wearing a pair of platform “Barbie-foot heels” that doubled as an optical illusion. As she made her way up the American Museum of Natural History steps in New York City, the nearly invisible toe straps made it look as though her feet were attached to the stilettos by glue. Without the support of an ankle strap, we would’ve totally taken a tumble, but Kardashian ascended the stairs and posed on the red carpet like a pro with nary a wobble in sight.

As for the rest of Kardashian’s look, she wore a custom halter Chrome Hearts gown made of leather, embroidered with the label’s signature cross motif. The back of the dress was held together by metallic buttons that were undone at the bottom to create a slit, allowing her heels to peek out from underneath.

With the help of her go-to stylist, Danielle Levi, Kardashian finished the outfit with silver Chrome Hearts jewelry, a black manicure, and a tousled Pamela Anderson-style updo. During the award ceremony, she took the stage to present the fashion icon award to Serena Williams, the first athlete to receive the accolade.

The CFDA Awards gathered dozens of stylish celebrities to honor designers and stars shaping the fashion industry. Anne Hathaway hosted the event this year, arriving in a denim Ralph Lauren set and later changing into a red lace Rodarte gown. Other standout looks of the night included Lola Tung’s sheer embellished Balmain minidress, Mary J. Blige’s crystal-covered Christian Siriano gown, and Madelyn Cline’s strapless metallic Oscar de la Renta dress.

Socks With Heels Is the Latest Polarizing Trend Taking Over Hollywood

Wearing visible socks with heels, loafers, or sandals has been a polarizing style move since the beginning. In its simplest form, it’s a nod to the schoolgirl aesthetic, but at its most contrived in 2023, it’s become a full-on trend, seen everywhere from the red carpet to the street. Magazine, the 33-year-old musician flaunted a Maison Margiela runway ensemble, which featured an undone hem and purposefully ragged stitching. In contrast, her socks and heels felt prim and proper. They drew attention to the Peter Pan color on her minidress, making for an event-ready take on dark academia.

Ariana Grande Wins the “Ugly”-Shoe Trend With These Deflated-Balloon Heels

Ariana Grande’s latest heels really pop. In an Oct. 23 Instagram gallery, the singer and actor drew footwear inspiration from the land of Oz, trading ruby slippers for a pair of yellow Loewe heels covered in deflated balloons. The imaginative shoes feature hand-embroidered bunches of latex, with balloons sewn onto 3.5-inch heels to create a unique, bubbly texture. Aside from the unconventional medium and puffy exterior, the borderline comical shoes are also lined in leather (not that you could really tell).

Grande’s feet practically disappeared within rubber mountains of premature party decor. She let the balloons have their moment, styling them down with light-wash jeans and a cozy sweater. Other celebrities braving the same shoes leaned into the drama, such as Indya Moore, who wore the heels with a draped minidress at Loewe’s fall show during Paris Fashion Week. No matter who they’re worn by, the heels are a prime example of the “ugly”-shoe trend — an increasingly popular movement lifting up unusual footwear and challenging what is and isn’t aesthetically acceptable.

Thanks to Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, the balloon shoes, aptly called the Comic Balloon Pump, are not Loewe’s first venture into the avant-garde. Previously, the fashion house debuted sandals made entirely out of pom-pom tinsel, heels draped with giant bows, and chunky pumps that look like they belong to Minnie Mouse. “It’s classic Jonathan genius, this playful kind of nostalgia,” Greta Lee told Harper’s Bazaar after wearing a pair of the tinsel shoes herself, noting Anderson’s use of innovative materials on leather. “It almost looks like armor but it also kind of looks like skin.”

Taylor Swift Is Breaking Out Her Tallest Heels Yet, Possibly Thanks to Travis Kelce

She’s head over (high) heels. Since stirring up dating rumors with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift has reignited her love for heels, stepping out in some of her tallest pairs yet. In her song lyrics, Swift occasionally uses footwear to explain relationship dynamics, previously singing, “He didn’t like it when I wore high heels, but I do,” in the 2012 hit “Begin Again.” Now that she seems to be seeing a 6’5″ football player, Swift’s towering taste in shoes could be interpreted as a byproduct of her relationship — one that lets her stand tall.

Speculation about Swift’s new love interest started swirling in July, after Kelce said he hoped to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number at the Eras Tour. The two reportedly began “hanging out” in September — right around when we noticed Swift embracing taller heels. She started out with a bang, wearing 5.5-inch sparkling silver platforms to the VMAs afterparty. She later flexed her street style with velvet Aquazzura sandals in NYC and strappy black heels while out with Blake Lively. Heeled Louboutin boots also made an appearance at Kelce’s Oct. 1 game, plus Prada combat boots for her Arrowhead Stadium outfit.

The few times she’s gone out publicly with Kelce, Swift brought her heels along, opting for yet another pair of chunky lace-up boots for dinner on Oct. 15. Following a surprise appearance on “SNL,” she attended the afterparty in metallic sandals with similarly impressive heels from Italian brand Greymer. Commenters noted that because Swift is tall herself (standing at around 5’11”), her new partner may be the driving force behind this revamped shoe game. I’m a Stylist & I Recommend These Weirdly Comfy Heels to All My Clients

While I spent most of my late teen years and early 20s wobbling around in strappy high heels, the older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve aimed to put comfort first. I would much rather complete an outfit with sneakers, boots, or ballet flats than have sore feet an hour into my plans. But on special occasions, I do make an exception and often find myself reaching for Larroudé heels.

I first found out about the brand while styling a photo shoot a few years ago. I had requested a pair of the Dolly design after seeing them on Instagram, and quickly fell in love with the chunky shape and all the fun color options. Later, when I slid them onto the talent’s foot, she told me how comfortable they felt. At the end of the day, she asked me to remind her which shoes they were, this way she could buy a pair for herself.

Since that moment, I’ve turned to Larroudé time and time again. I used a few different pairs while working on Stylecaster’s Becca Tilley cover shoot — the sparkles and prints really popped against her elaborate dresses. When I styled a director for the 2023 Tony Awards, she needed heels she could easily walk in while making her way down the red carpet. I brought her a pair of Larroudé’s Colette Crystal Mule and she was pleasantly surprised once she put them on.

Everyone I’ve introduced this brand to has become an instant fan. They can’t help but comment on the comfort factor, which is mostly due to the insole that has a memory foam cushion.

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve also worn Larroudé — even for my wedding day last year. I was initially worried that I would want to kick off my shoes as soon as the reception started, but I ended up dancing the night away while wearing the Dolly. Aside from the memory foam, the thick heel offered so much support and they ended up being extremely easy to walk in, especially outside in the grass.

Of course, the brand sells more than just two great pairs, so I’m including a few of my favorite options, ahead. They’re definitely a bit of an investment, but trust me — they’re worth every penny.

When it comes to heels, these remain one of my favorites. I find that the metallic color pairs well with just about any outfit, the thick heel is super supportive, and I always end up reaching for them before big events (even my own wedding).

If chunky heels aren’t for you, these mules are a bit daintier yet still super versatile. They’ll stand out in a subtle way, thanks to the silver color and jewel embellishments.

There’s a reason a black heel is considered a closet staple. Thanks to its neutral color, it’s one of the easiest ways to finish off a fancy look. If you’re looking for a twist on the old classic, try this crystal embellished pair instead of something simple.

I’ve Never Felt Richer Than I Did Wearing These 11 Designer Shoes

A great pair of shoes has the power to make an outfit memorable. Miu Miu Made Me Do It—30 Mary-Jane Shoes That You Need for Fall

‘Heels’ Producers Looking For New Home After Cancelation

We wish Heels the best of luck in its future endeavors. But in an actual sincere way, not the WWE way. The show has gone on for two seasons, and it tells the story of two brothers, by the names Jack and Ace Spade. The two are rivals, and with the former being a heel and the latter being a face. While their feud plays out in kayfabe, there’s also an actual battle playing out on a personal level. Both of them want to go on to own their father’s wrestling promotion and become national acts.

Mike O’Malley, Heels’ showrunner, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about a potential future for the show. While it may be done at Starz, it could live on at another home.

O’Malley siad he was on a picket line for the just-concluded writers strike when he got a call from Starz saying they were canceling the show.

When asked if he was seeking a new home for the show, he responded in the affirmative.

Yeah, we are actively doing it right now. And some of the actors are still under contract. Obviously, the strike just ended. I couldn’t have any conversations about this and granted, they just told me on Friday. But not only are we trying to, I really believe the Starz executives when they say they want to see a future for the show too, because they did invest a lot in the show… I really do think it’s going to have a life someplace else.

O’Malley also claimed they did not and do not intend for the recent Season 2 finale to be “the last episode of the show.

We’ll see. Heels is currently streaming on Starz.

Julia Fox’s Heelless Platform Boots Come With a “No Walking” Warning

Julia Fox might’ve just debuted her wildest footwear yet — and that’s saying a lot considering the star’s outrageous fashion sense. While posing for a Victoria’s Secret World Tour photo shoot on the streets of New York City on Sept. 6, the model wore heels that were missing, well . . . the heels. Her patent leather Pleaser boots featured a 3-inch platform sole and no back heel for additional support, which is practically a broken ankle waiting to happen. In fact, they come with a warning on the Pleaser website, reading, “Due to their extreme height and unique heelless design, these shoes are not recommended for walking or dancing.”

Despite the risks, Fox still managed to strut the sidewalk with a 7-Eleven Slurpee in hand and nary a wobble in sight as the cameras snapped away. She tucked sleek low-rise pants into her boots and finished the look with a matching leather bra, archival Victoria’s Secret wings, and a black shoulder bag. Later on in the evening, Fox changed into a sheer silver thong-exposing dress and much more walkable heels for the Victoria’s Secret World Tour launch party, where stars including Iris Law, Lila Moss, Priyanka Chopra, and Lori Harvey hit the pink carpet.

Fox regularly makes headlines with her eccentric style choices. Just one day ago, the actor showed some skin in a revealing chain bikini at Naomi Campbell’s PrettyLittleThing runway show, risking a wardrobe malfunction as she posed on the red carpet. On Tuesday, American giant Express announced Atwood’s new position at the helm of its shoe department as well as his debut line for the brand, Brian Atwood for Express. “I grew up with sisters, so Express has been in my life, even since an early age,” Atwood says. “Working with such a huge company, one that has national mass appeal, was exciting and also challenging.” Never one to say no to a difficult feat—according to an interview in Coveteur, Versace once asked him out of the blue to try his hand at haute couture footwear for one of his collections—Atwood says he was intrigued by the opportunity to elevate the brand’s current assortment and bring its loyal customers something new and unexpected using his immense knowledge of shoe design.

For his first collection for Express, his goal was simple: great shoes. “Shoes should have a timeless nature to them, and that’s exactly what I have created with this collection,” he says. “Classic styles that women are going to want to wear and keep forever.” Of course, at the same time, he wanted to ensure that the collection had a bit of fashion in it. “I think the materials and colors are gorgeous, and with each design, we are giving the Express customer something they haven’t had from the brand before,” he explains. According to Atwood, Express let him do his thing. He adds, “They know my expertise and where I can help.”
