Heart of Stone: Everything to know before watching the Gal Gadot, Alia Bhatt starrer

The highly-awaited action-packed movie Heart of Stone has been released on OTT today with much fervour and excitement. The film stars Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot in the lead role along with Alia Bhatt, Jamie Dornan, Matthias Schweighöfer, Sophie Okonedo, Jing Lusi, Paul Ready, Archie Madekwe and Jon Kortajarena. The film marks Alia Bhatt’s Hollywood debut.

Plot details

The project has been described as an original international spy thriller that aims to put a female spin on action franchises such as Mission: Impossible and James Bond. The official plot synopsis for the film reads, “Gal Gadot is Agent Rachel Stone, the only intelligence operative who stands between her global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable — and dangerous — asset, codenamed: The Heart.”

Alia Bhatt’s role

Contrary to popular belief, Alia Bhatt plays the anti-hero in the film. Here character Key Dhawan is the one who steals The Heart and challenges Agent Rachel. The actress is seen in a new avatar and truly impressed fans with her brief appearance in the trailer.

Production and release date

Tom Harper, a British film and television director best known for directing episodes of Peaky Blinders, War and Peace, and The Aeronauts, is directing the film. The script was co-written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Allison Schroeder and comic-book writer Greg Rucka, who previously wrote the adaptation of his own comic series for The Old Guard. Tom Harper will reunite with his trusted cinematographer George Steel and film editor Mark Eckersley, with whom he previously worked on The Aeronauts.

The film has been billed as a global thriller, and production on the first round began in March 2022 in London. The production moved to Reykjavik, Iceland the following month to take advantage of the country’s spectacular landscapes, before returning to the UK in May of this year. Heart of Stone wrapped production on July 28, 2022, with the final days of filming taking place in Lisbon, Portugal.

Heart Of Stone releases on OTT today, August 11th.

Alia Bhatt talks about working with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in the Heart of Stone

Alia Bhatt is currently all geared up for the release of her Hollywood debut spy thriller Heart of Stone. In the film, Alia will star alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan.

With her first international role, Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt plays Keya Dhawan, a woman with unmatched intellect and fierce determination. Being a part of a film like this and breaking into the global market was an incredible opportunity for Alia.

Talking about working with Gal Gadot, Alia said, “For me, this was a super huge opportunity, my first Hollywood film. And having seen Gal’s exceptional work, I knew this project was something special. The idea of being part of a spy thriller with a female lead, a woman like Gal, was incredibly exciting. And I was even more thrilled when I got to know that Jamie would be joining the team too.”

She further stated, “Gal is such a loving person, and her energy is so warm. When I’m around her, I feel like I’ve known her for a very long time. It’s like we instantly clicked, and that comfort translated onto the screen,”

She also talked about Jamie Dornan and expressed, “Working with Jamie, I’ve basically shot almost every day with him now, and it’s easy. Jamie is super funny and very fun to work with on this film. We’re doing all these intense moments where the stakes are really high, but off camera we’re giggling, chatting, and the mood is extremely light. That contrast is really interesting, and he’s a fabulous actor as well, very subtle, but his eyes are extremely expressive. Working with him was really fun and easy.”

Helmed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone also stars Paul Ready, Matthias Schweighofer, and Jing Lusi in pivotal roles. The plot centres around Rachel Stone, an intelligence agent employed by the peacekeeping agency Charter. In the film, Bhatt’s character steals the Heart, a technological core, from the organization, leading to a thrilling tale of action and drama.

Alia Bhatt is currently attending an event in Brazil with her Heart of Stone co-stars Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan. The film’s release date has been revealed at the event. Photos of the stars have now emerged.

Alia Bhatt can be seen joining Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and 50 Shades of Gray actor Jamie Dornan on stage to announce Heart of Stone’s release date which is set for August 11, 2023.
