    Jul 19, 2022

Rythmia Life Advancement Center, an all-inclusive, medically licensed plant medicine center located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, announces a partnership with Nicoya Macaw Project to support its effort to repopulate Costa Rica’s declining scarlet macaw population in the Nicoya Peninsula.

The Nicoya Macaw Project model farm, located in San José Pinilla, has an adequate hatchery space for the preservation of macaws. The farm is home to roughly 20 pairs of macaws and intends to release 30 per year back into the wild. In 10 years, Nicoya Macaw Project estimates the reintroduction of over 300 macaws back into the wild. Rythmia will work with the Nicoya Macaw Project team to develop additional eco-friendly and sustainable habitats to revitalize local macaw populations.

“Through the partnership, we’ll be able to better protect and set up new homes for the macaws, with two nests located onsite at the resort,” said Gerard Armond Powell, CEO of Rythmia Life Advancement Center. “Rythmia is an ideal habitat, offering a secluded, tropical location with the peace of mind that comes with proper security. We are thrilled to work with Nicoya Macaw Project to create a space dedicated specifically for these birds’ care and facilitate the repopulation of the species.”

Although it is not on the list of endangered species, the scarlet macaw population has seen a significant decrease in the past several decades. The decline of the scarlet macaw in the region is largely attributed to two factors: the capture of birds for sale and deforestation.

“Unfortunately, years in captivity and human dependence mean many scarlet macaws can never be returned to the wild,” said Ismael Carranza Ortiz, Tropical Biologist with the Nicoya Macaw Project. “However, they will be instrumental in our efforts to repopulate the species, as young birds can be released after adapting to the climate and surrounding area. We are planning to accomplish the controlled reproduction utilizing two areas on the resort property set aside specifically for the macaws.”

A new generation of macaws is released once they are old enough to have an independent life and have acclimated to the area. Birds are released in Avellanas Beach and their development is closely monitored via identification chips to ensure the continuity of the species. Macaws are completely monogamous, remain in pairs for life, and can live up to 75 to 80 years.

    Press Release

    May 24, 2022

When one thinks of being inclusive, do they consider those with disabilities and special needs? This is the question Daniel Caridi, Co-Founder of HomeField, asks when sharing the company’s story. Several years ago, Caridi and his Co-Founder, Gage DeDominicis, started volunteering at a local gym teaching fitness to about five people with special needs and disabilities. Mondays and Thursdays quickly became the highlights of their week. Due to rising concerns about the pandemic, they turned to online classes. Just in their immediate area, classes skyrocketed to 80+ people engaged and working out. If they could have that kind of impact locally, imagine what could be done on a national scale. That’s when Daniel and Gage realized they were onto something.

Their mission? To create a sustainable business that positively impacts the world.

HomeField‘s mission? To create fun and meaningful experiences that inspire inclusion and build trust together.

It was then that the first online health and wellness platform designed for all abilities was born. HomeField.fit serves people with physical disabilities, special needs, older adults, and anyone who does not have easy access to fitness and wellness content that fits their needs. The platform offers 100+ on-demand classes as well as daily live stream classes in dance, martial arts, yoga, mindfulness and more.

They hired international fitness guru, Billy Blanks Jr., to manage and build HomeField’s catalog of online classes as President and Head of Content. “I’m excited about working with a team that is dedicated to creating a wide variety of content that is fun, easy to follow, and most importantly inclusive to all levels of abilities and ages.” The company’s CEO, Liza Rivera Salta, brings over 30 years of business experience, coupled with a passion for serving the special needs community. “It’s a community environment. We’re all the same in that we want to work out, be fit, make friends and feel included- and I think that’s a key differentiation for HomeField,” Salta emphasized.

HomeField has also partnered with the Special Olympics of CT, Abilis, a few public school systems, and corporations. Individuals are encouraged to try the platform for free by signing up at www.homefield.fit. HomeField fits everybody and helps bring fun fitness to all by moving through barriers.

  • Retire to Portugal? Hot springs in January, no traffic, and universal health care — the best retirement escape you’ve never heard of

Retire to Portugal? Hot springs in January, no traffic, and universal health care — the best retirement escape you’ve never heard of

    [ad_1]

Money manager Matt Patsky stood at the window of his hotel on the Portuguese island of São Miguel in March last year, looking out over the Atlantic, and thought: I’m not sure we can retire here after all.

He told his husband, “I don’t know [if] we could live here. It looks like the people are crazy. There are people going in the water, swimming in the ocean. How crazy do you have to be to go swimming in the Atlantic in March?”

Patsky, 56, mentioned this to a local real-estate agent later that day. The man didn’t understand the issue. The water, he said, was probably no cooler than 65 degrees.

How these Americans save money in retirement: They live in Spain

As Boston-based Patsky adds: In New England you’re lucky if the water gets that warm in August.

It’s “one of the great selling points of the Azores,” he says. “It is rarely below 60. It is rarely above 80. And the water temperature tends to be steady between 65 and 75 degrees.”

Patsky says he and his husband, a retired businessman who’s 66, are “80%” sure they are going to live outside the United States when they retire. They are tired especially of the politics and the racial tensions.

The No. 1 thing that attracted them to the Azores — which lie barely more than twice as far from Boston as from Lisbon — wasn’t the weather. It was the emigration.

Portugal, they discovered, offers the all-round fastest, cheapest, easiest way to get a so-called golden visa, putting the recipient on a fast track to permanent residence and citizenship.

You have to have means, but this is not purely for Rockefellers. If you want to get Portuguese residency, and a passport, you need to buy a home in the country and generally to put at least some money into fixing it up, and spend at least seven days a year in the country for the next five years.

After six months, you get a residency card. After five years, a passport.

The threshold prices vary, depending on the type of home you buy and where you buy it, but they start at €280,000 (about $310,000).

As part of the deal, says Patsky, you have to buy the home with cash. You can’t take out a Portuguese mortgage. But you can always raise the cash by remortgaging a U.S. home. The money thresholds are lower than in many other countries. And the seven-day requirement lets Patsky continue his job in Boston, as the CEO of socially responsible investing company Trillium, during the five years.

A small but growing number of Americans are choosing to retire abroad — some because it’s cheaper; some because they have family or roots overseas; and some because of lifestyle, culture or ambience. The number of retired U.S. workers receiving Social Security checks overseas has risen by a third in 10 years, and that doesn’t count all the “retirement refugees” who get their benefits deposited in a bank account in the U.S.

Europe is by far the most popular destination by continent, with about a quarter of a million U.S. retirees, based on Social Security direct deposits. That includes nearly 13,000 in Portugal.

“Portugal has been so welcoming to the LGBT community, that you are seeing a huge number of LGBT couples looking at Portugal,” reports Patsky. On their trips to the Azores, Patsky says he and his husband have been bumping into other LGBT couples from the U.S. looking at golden visas as well.

On a recent trip they overheard four American women at the next table in a restaurant. It was “two lesbian couples from Philadelphia, looking at the ‘golden visa’ and looking at property in the Azores. We ended up sitting with them with my iPad open looking at property.”

You can see the islands’ attraction. There are regular flights from various North American and European cities, Patsky says. “It’s a 4½-hour flight from Boston, and, because of our large Azorean population [in New England], there are actually daily flights,” he says.

Pretty much everyone on the island speaks some English, which is taught in schools as a compulsory second language.

“It’s like living in a Portuguese fishing village,” Patsky says of Ponta Delgada, the main city on São Miguel. “It has a lot of the same feel as Provincetown [on Cape Cod], in terms of being a fishing village. It’s quaint.” The population is about 70,000. “It’s a good size, and it’s got a very vibrant economy.”

Thanks to some spectacular cliffs, São Miguel — one of the nine islands that the Azores comprise — has hosted the Red Bull World Cliff Diving World Series on several occasions, including last year.

Patsky and his husband love the island’s natural beauty. “January, we were swimming, we were at the hot springs. Incredible. This really is nice weather year round. There is no traffic. There is no rush hour.” The longest distance you could drive on the island, from one point to another, would take you an hour, he says.

And unlike in Boston, he adds with a laugh, you don’t see snow.

Both members of the couple are equally eager to retire abroad, Patsky says, in no small part to flee America’s rising racial tensions and poisonous politics. Last year Patsky’s husband, originally from the Philippines, was run over at a pedestrian crossing in Boston, Patsky recalls, and was left lying on the pavement with multiple fractures. When a policeman arrived at the scene, he asked the prone 65-year-old for his Social Security number to determine whether he was in the U.S. illegally, Patsky says.

“My husband and I want to make sure that our retirement is spent in a country that respects the dignity of every person,” Patsky says, “and that treats access to health care as a human right.” Portugal has a public health service, modeled after Britain’s National Health Service, which is available to all residents.

The couple had started talking about an “exit plan” right after the 2016 presidential election. Their research led them to Portugal, and then to the Azores.

They are hardly alone in looking at the Azores. This is starting to turn into a well-trodden exit route. “There are hotel chains that are selling villas at exactly the price point you need to get the golden visa,” Patsky says. They’ll even rent the villa out for you to tourists, to generate income, and say they’ll buy it back after the five years are up.

Patsky says the couple won’t be moving for at least five years. Patsky’s remaining at the helm of Trillium following its takeover by Australia’s Perpetual Ltd.
    PPT,
    -1.13%
    .
He says one of the key appeals of Portugal’s visa program is that he can carry on working full time in the U.S. while at the same time completing the steps needed to get his Portuguese passport.

Naturally, there are forms to fill out. You’ll need the usual financial and employment records. You’ll also need an FBI report to prove you have a clean rap sheet. (Pro tip from Patsky: Don’t get your fingerprints done at the police station on card. Get them done electronically at the post office and apply online. It will save you weeks.)

As for that major retirement headache, health care, you will need to prove you have health insurance in your home country every year during the initial five years, Patsky says. Medicare counts.

And when you finally retire to the country full time? After your five-year period you’ll have a Portuguese passport. And that means an EU passport. And so you can move anywhere in the EU, including those places with the most lavish, generous public health insurance.

“You can pick wherever you want to retire because it’s the EU,” Patsky says.

Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities partnered with El Nido Family Centers and Play It Forward on the weekend for ‘Kids Helping Kids’

Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities (LATLC) was delighted to lend a helping hand to its partner charities El Nido Family Centers and Play It Forward at “Kids Helping Kids” on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The attorneys from Los Angeles County took time out from their busy schedules to join volunteers at El Nido’s Pacoima FamilySource Center and the Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) program and filled gift bags containing items to inspire active and healthy lifestyles.

Over 200 LATLC duffel bags were filled with P.E. equipment for the families to use at home including balls, jump ropes, and other sporting equipment, as well as hand sanitizer, LATLC stress hearts, and other items to help promote health and well-being in the community. The P.E. equipment donated to these families in need by Play It Forward is the same P.E. equipment that it has donated to schools across Los Angeles County to motivate kids to stay fit and active.

“Kids Helping Kids was an incredible opportunity for LATLC volunteers to see firsthand the difference that they are making for the disadvantaged in the community,” says Los Angeles Trial Lawyers’ Charities 2022 President Steve Vartazarian. “We were honored to be part of this event and work with El Nido Family Centers and Play It Forward to help promote a healthier way of living.”

  • It’s Very Healthy to Masturbate, But Is It Possible to Overdo It?

It’s Very Healthy to Masturbate, But Is It Possible to Overdo It?

    [ad_1]

It’s Perfectly Healthy to Masturbate, But Is It Possible to Overdo It?

What do you call a completely normal behavior that a majority of adult men partake in regularly, but that society oftentimes likes to make you feel guilty about? You may have euphemistically referred to this activity as “choking the chicken” or “playing pocket pool” at an earlier age, believing the word itself too taboo to touch, but you know what we’re talking about here is masturbation.

If you’ve masturbated in the past month, the past week, even the past 24 hours, give yourself a congratulatory pat on the back. You, dear pal, are part of a super, non-exclusive group made up of the vast majority of adult men living in the U.S. According to one study, over 70 percent of boys have masturbated at least once by the time they reach age 17. By the time they reach adulthood? Well, by then it’s viewed as a universal behavior.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with masturbating on the regular (whatever that may mean on an individual level). In fact, it’s viewed as an integral part of normal sexual development, and can lead to a number of benefits.

RELATED: It’s About Time You Switch Things Up When It Comes to How You Jerk Off

“Many people find masturbation to orgasm to be a stress reliever and mood elevator due to both the chemical response it causes, as well as the tension and then relaxation of muscles after the fact,” says Dr. Vanessa Valentino, a New York City-based psychologist and sex therapist.

“[Masturbation] often helps people know their body and experience more pleasure in sexual encounters with others,” she adds.

You might be wondering what the catch is here. Is there a dark side to masturbation you should know about? In short, as with all good things, too much of it — at least too much reliance on it, in terms of both your physical and mental well-being — can become problematic.

Here’s what you need to know about the potentially negative side effects of masturbating too much.

    Psychological Impact

The reason we masturbate is pretty straightforward: it makes us feel good, even if only temporarily. But there is a drawback when you return to the well too many times.

“When you masturbate, you experience a release of the neurotransmitter dopamine,” explains Michele Day, sex addiction therapist, coach, consultant and director of the Chicago Center for Sex & Wellbeing. “Dopamine hits the reward centers of the brain and is the same neurotransmitter that is released when people abuse drugs — cocaine, heroin, alcohol, etcetera. People who compulsively masturbate receive ‘dopamine hits,’ which leaves them sated temporarily, but when that doesn’t last, they return for more.”

That, as Day points out, is when compulsive behavior can come into play, which is where things can go south.

“Compulsive or addictive masturbation can leave you feeling depressed and shameful due to depletion of neurotransmitters and your inability to stop the behavior,” she says.

Also of concern, according to Valentino, is using masturbation as a coping mechanism.

“It should not be relied on to manage mood,” she says. “If you are becoming dependent on masturbation to function or feel happy, it is time to see a psychologist who specializes in sex therapy.”

Its Impact on Your Sex Life

Masturbation is an equally normal behavior whether you’re riding solo or boo’ed up (in which case mutual masturbation can come into play). That said, your method(s) of masturbation can sometimes lead to issues in the bedroom with your partner.

“The way you are masturbating, both physical technique, duration, and what porn you watch or your fantasies, can all potentially have negative side effects if they are not similar to what your experience is during real sex with your partner,” says Dr. Valentino. “Many of my patients have an issue due to a longstanding pattern of non-transferable fantasy with masturbation, resulting in sexual performance issues.”

In addition to being unable to perform the way you would like to, this can also lead your partner to think they are doing, or have done, something wrong — or worse. “The partner often feels that there is ‘something wrong with them’ when their lover isn’t aroused,” explains Day. “Compulsive masturbators will frequently let their partners believe this as a way to escape the shame that they feel.”

Its Impact on Other Aspects of Life

There is no over/under on the number of times it’s considered appropriate to masturbate within a given timeframe, whether we’re talking a day, a week, or a month. Everyone masturbates at a different frequency, and it only becomes problematic when it begins to interfere with other aspects of your life that deserve your attention.

These are the questions you need to confront, according to Day, if you feel the behavior has become compulsive: “Are you masturbating and/or looking at pornography at work? Are you isolating from others so you can stay at home and masturbate? Have you been in a car accident because you were looking at pornography and/or masturbating? Do you hide your masturbation from your partner? Are you tired in the morning because you were up late watching pornography and/or masturbating?”

If any of these situations sound familiar, seeking out professional help could be tremendously beneficial.

“If you are neglecting your partner, your work, your social life, etcetera, it may be time to rein it in and seek the help of a psychologist who specializes in sex therapy,” advises Valentino. “You probably will not be able to undo this on your own, but some brief therapy can be very helpful.”

Developing Feelings of Guilt or Shame

A final aspect of too much masturbation to consider is the guilt/shame factor. Meaning, you like to masturbate but can’t help feeling guilty after having done so, as if you’ve done something wrong or are a bad person for engaging in that kind of behavior.

As Day puts it: “A lot of people were raised that their bodies and sex are something to be ashamed about, especially in American culture, but they are not.”

Guilt and shame surrounding masturbation stem from different places, explains Valentino. The former signifies that you have a negative perception of masturbation, likely internalized by social influences, while the latter suggests you think society would judge you for engaging in the act.

“These are rooted in different causes, and are treated somewhat differently in therapy,” says Valentino. “Psychotherapy focused on sex issues that applies cognitive behavioral techniques would help resolve this issue, and the underlying confidence issues in your own decision making.”

Masturbation is a normal behavior that an overwhelming majority of men engage in. Whether you partake or you don’t, what’s most important is that your decision is coming from a positive place (as opposed to, for example, feeling so shameful about the activity that you are unable to engage in it).

  • Over the River and Through the Woods: Distracted Drivers Present New Dangers This Holiday Season

Over the River and Through the Woods: Distracted Drivers Present New Dangers This Holiday Season

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    Dec 8, 2021

Today, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Root Insurance call all motorists to prioritize safety during this holiday season when crashes can be on the rise due to various distractions inside the vehicle.

Data from the California Highway Patrol shows that car crashes continue to be a leading cause of death for teens ages 16-24 in the Golden State. A Zogby poll, commissioned by Root and SADD, shows that 64% of Californians are concerned about roadway safety, specifically distracted driving and its threat to their safety. The study further indicates that 64% of parents with children under 17 believe the problem has grown worse over the past several years.

December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, a nationwide observance to call attention to the public health crisis of roadway fatalities. While we typically think of impairment as behavior related to drugs and alcohol, distractions inside the car present similar dangers for all roadway users. SADD works with a coalition of partners across the state to raise awareness on these issues with funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. SADD chapters in middle schools, high schools, and college campuses will hold awareness events for teens and parents throughout the week. SADD will feature the Passport for Safe Driving, a resource developed in partnership with National Road Safety Foundation to assist parents in coaching their teens to be safer drivers.

“Distractions, impairment, speed, recklessness, lack of seat belt, and inexperience — these behaviors are the leading causes of teen crashes in California, and they are 100% preventable,” said Rick Birt, President & CEO of SADD. “We’re honored to join with Root Insurance to raise awareness of these behaviors and what teens and adult allies can do to prevent crashes and save lives this holiday season.”

“Californians are right to be concerned with the real dangers posed by distracted driving,” said Kathy Mitchell, Director of Government Affairs for Root, Inc. “One innovative solution supported by California drivers is to tie the driving ability to insurance rates so that drivers are incentivized to drive safely with lower rates. We know which tools will make our roads safer. We just need to implement them. Californians can rest assured SADD is working tirelessly to deliver results.”

Resources for students, parents, and community-members can be found on the SADD website at www.sadd.org or your favorite social media platform.

    About SADD
For 40 years, SADD, the nation’s premier youth health safety organization, has worked to empower teens, engage parents, mobilize communities, and change lives around the issues of traffic safety, substance abuse, and personal health and safety. Through a national network of peer-led chapters in middle schools, high schools, and colleges, SADD equips students with the resources they need to advocate for change in their communities.

    Top 10 “What’s Up, Y’all?” Videos of 2020

    [ad_1]

2020 has been a difficult, heartbreaking, and tumultuous year in so many ways. The toll COVID is taking on our communities, especially the most disenfranchised among us (disproportionately poor and working-class people of color), remains heartbreakingly gut-wrenching. Governments across the globe have violated the rights of their people repeatedly, from the ongoing police murders of Black and brown people in the US to the rise of authoritarianism in Hungary, rising state-sponsored anti-Muslim violence in India, increasing evidence of oppression against Uighur Muslims rounded up and sent to forced labor camps in China, and police brutality and murder of youth protesters in Nigeria.

At the same time, 2020 has been a year of great (un)learning, resistance, and revolution. Just as we have seen the lethal forces of hate, apathy, lies, and violence used against the most marginalized among us, we have also seen Black, brown, undocumented, disabled, queer, trans, poor, working-class, and many other folks rise up and fight back to advocate for our lives and futures. This year has challenged us in so many ways, and yet, through showing us the cracks and failures of capitalism, white supremacy, a for-profit US health care system, criminal “justice”, and other cruel and outdated systems, 2020 has also shown us the power of the collective and the necessity of our dreams and activism.

As our founder Sonya Renee Taylor teaches us, it’s a powerful practice to live in the both/and — to embrace the at times uncomfortable and even painful liminal spaces we find ourselves in as we rupture old patterns, selves, and lives to co-create our future. Sonya shared back at the beginning of the COVID crisis:

“We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate, and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.”

Throughout 2020, Sonya has been reaching out with lessons of radical self-love, not only through her written work and appearances via dozens of podcasts, round tables, panels, keynote speeches, and news programs, but also through her “What’s Up, Y’all?” videos posted to her Instagram and YouTube channels. She has provided us with wisdom for all seasons of this year. In November, as those of us in the US (and many of us around the world) were waiting with baited breath for the outcome of the presidential election, Sonya reminded us:

Find the Best Remote Team for Your Parenting

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 15, 2020

Viv-ing, Co, a company that specializes in research concerning early detection of infants’ abilities using artificial intelligence, will be releasing a multi-lingual parenting support service that allows customers to find the best providers for remote pregnancy and childcare support. This service is called BabyLook-Remo and will release this December.

    What is BabyLook Remo?

BabyLook-Remo is a multilingual parenting support service that allows users to search for the best remote childcare providers, pregnancy, and birthing caregivers. The service will be available beginning Dec. 12 and will feature a variety of prenatal and neonatal professionals such as doulas, therapists, midwives, nurses, and pediatricians to assist parents throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting.

Users can begin their search on the BabyLook website which features HIPPA compliant technologies and web-services. BabyLook-Remo is aimed at parents ranging from pregnant to parents of 4-5-year-old infants. The initial release will be targeted to Los Angeles County and English, Spanish, and Chinese speaking users. However, the platform is looking to quickly expand its provider-patient network and language accessibility to meet the needs of parents everywhere.

BabyLook providers offer services ranging from mental care before and after birth, preparation for birth, practical advisory after birth, and helping when an emergency arises with a customer’s baby.

    Features

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, the public has been advised to stay home whenever possible. The safety protocols advised are especially important for immunocompromised groups such as pregnant women and infants. BabyLook-Remo seeks to connect parents with providers who can meet with them remotely or in the comfort of their own homes to keep them as safe as possible.

BabyLook-Remo’s service consists of the following:

    1. Finding providers and making the best team for each parent
    2. Booking support
    3. Communication support
    4. Payment support
    5. Treatment support

The BabyLook team will be enhancing and expanding these services on an on-going basis after release. The current version has prioritized quality providers that can adapt to each parent’s needs.

Parents can select their provider from many search variables like area, experience, education and licenses to find a professional that matches their preferences. Parents are able to maintain easy and accessible contact with their provider via BabyLook throughout the entirety of their service.

    Company Information

The company is headed by Kyo Ueda who has spearheaded BabyLook’s recent developments.

Kids With Cancer Offer Tips, Humor and Support for Surviving in the New ‘Normal’ With All Funds Raised Going to FAM

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 7, 2020

Stressed out by the new “normal”? Need ideas for how to cope? Fighting with siblings? Bored? Need to hear a good joke? Want help pulling the perfect prank? Now a group of kids with cancer – who know exactly what it’s like to be isolated – are taking their advice, cheer and life lessons to CAMEO. And, at the same time, raising funds for FAM, whose mission is supporting families whose children are dealing with life-threatening and life-altering illnesses.

Launched in 2019, FAM raising funds to help families with lodging costs during their children’s hospital stays, commuting to medical appointments, special gifts for the kids, assistance paying medical bills – even funerals. In fact, 100 percent of funds raised have gone straight to the cause with operational expenses covered by a benefactor. The organization is led by Milk Tyson, a former Hollywood insider, and staffed on a wholly volunteer basis by 20+ moms – each of whom know firsthand what it is like to have a child who is fighting or has lost the fight with a terminal illness. Hence the name behind the FAM acronym – Fighting All Monsters.

“No one knows what it feels like to be isolated like kids with cancer and other diseases. Weakened immune systems and year after year of long hospital stays have given them insights that may just come in handy for those of us adapting to the lifestyle changes necessitated by this pandemic,” said Tyson.

That’s where CAMEO™ Marketplace comes in. CAMEO is an app that lets the public book personalized videos from their favorite talent. Which in this case just happens to be childhood cancer superheroes like nine-year-old Layla Mosley, who has Ewings sarcoma and loves horses, music and rainbows; or nine-year-old, Ke’yair Christie, who has Stage 4 osteosarcoma and enjoys playing video games, building LEGOs and playing pranks; and 15-year-old Will Walker, an amputee with synovial sarcoma, who love the Chiefs, video games and making people laugh. For $25, they’ll give some life advice, tips for staying busy, make supporters giggle, or even provide some comforting words – with all proceeds going to FAM.

“These kids are wise beyond their years and have a lot of sage advice to give. Their perspectives on life, their coping skills and their amazing humor can be especially inspiring for all of us during this crazy time,” he added. “And at the same time, those who purchase their cameos are giving them some needed moral support.”

Tyson says they chose CAMEO because at the core of FAM’s mission is to get the kids and families involved in community-building and awareness-raising activities to give them hope and makes them feel supported. Case in point: their campaign to get Puff Daddy to dance with them on the Ellen Show. (Spoiler alert – they accomplished their goal and appeared on the show in January!)

“What never ceases to amaze me is that no matter what these kids are faced with, they always jump at the chance to help others. That is what the latest fundraiser is all about,” he said.

Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental Contracted to Help Colleges, Dormitories and Off Campus Apartments, Rooms and Housing Facilities With Mold Problems in the VA, MD and DC Area.

John Taylor, owner of Madison Taylor Inc., Certified Indoor Environmentalist and Mold Inspector, aids colleges in resolving mold issues

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 16, 2019

Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental was contracted to provide mold testing and mold remediation services for Colleges, Dormitories and Off-Campus Apartments, Rooms and Housing Facilities with concerning mold issues in the Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. area.

Mold is a growing concern in educational facilities and student housing. Many schools and buildings have moisture conditions which can lead to mold growth. Water events, including flooding, roof, window, foundation, and plumbing leaks, elevated relative humidity, poor ventilation, and malfunctioning HVAC systems, can all lead to mold issues in new or aging student housing facilities. Many buildings have unsealed, poorly ventilated crawlspaces, inadequate insulation, and exterior joint leaks, which create conditions conducive to mold growth.

As parents, teachers, and students become educated on indoor air quality effects, many of these facilities have added indoor air quality testing and monitoring to their routine maintenance to ensure students are learning and living in a healthy environment. Studies have shown that prolonged exposures to building dampness and mold have been associated with headaches, dizzy spells, respiratory issues, sinusitis, itchy, watery eyes, and hives. Individuals with asthma and allergies may be at risk for progression to more severe conditions if the connection between illness and exposure is left unchecked.

John Taylor, owner of Madison Taylor Inc. and Certified Indoor Environmentalist, encourages students, college administrators and parents who have concerns about indoor air quality and their child’s learning environment to request testing information from their local school district. “Many schools have testing performed for mold, bacteria, lead, asbestos, and other indoor air quality concerns annually. If you have concerns and testing has not been performed, request it.”

John Taylor continued, “Mold has proven to be a legitimate concern in many colleges, student housing facilities and dormitories in Virginia, Maryland and D.C. area.

“Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental has tested and remediated over 400 dorm rooms in 2018 alone. We receive hundreds of calls from concerned college administrators, students, and parents every year. It has been rewarding helping resolve these indoor air quality problems, which protects so many from potential health-related conditions.”

Madison Taylor Indoor Environmental is the most established indoor environmental company in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. They have helped thousands of home and business owners solve mold and related indoor air quality problems. Their client base encompasses residential and commercial, hospitals, schools, and government facilities.

Wantagh Resident Scott Lannan is Working to Launch the Santa Cause, a New Campaign to Help Those Who Are Sick

    [ad_1]

By donating a portion of all the sales of Santa merchandise, Lannan believes it could generate funding to help those who are sick.

    Press Release

    updated: Dec 21, 2018

Scott Lannan, a Wantagh resident, who has been known to ride his bicycle in town dressed as Santa, has been working to launch a new campaign. What he calls The Santa Cause is an initiative to raise funding through the sale of current Santa merchandise including pictures, lawn decorations and other Santa gear. He believes taking a portion of these sales could fund initiatives to help the sick and those in need.

“I want us to get back to the real meaning of Santa as a giver, more than the commercialized industry that Santa now represents,” explains Lannan. “The legend of Santa originated with St. Nicholas in what is now Turkey. His story was about giving selflessly. I think if we can use that image of Santa today, we can get back to a place of helping those who are less fortunate, particularly those who are sick.”

Allowing Santa to be active and in better health rather than obese encourages not just youth, but all those older father and grandfathers who play Santa to do so in a healthy way.

    Scott Lannan, The Santa Cause

Health is important to Lannan. He believes it’s also important while helping the sick to show Santa in a new way. With the rates of childhood obesity rising, Lannan believes it’s time to show this most beloved childhood icon in a way that promotes activity and good health, which is why he’s Santa on a bike.

“Allowing Santa to be active and in better health rather than obese encourages not just youth, but all those older father and grandfathers who play Santa to do so in a healthy way,” says Lannan. “Many balk at the idea because of tradition, but there’s no reason why Santa has to carry so much weight. Santa being active and eating healthy could be a great role model to children and adults of all ages.”

To learn more about the campaign and how to help, contact Scott Lannan at 516-408-0219 or email thesantacause@outlook.com.

Athletes, Physicians, and Socialites Detoxify at Thrive Drip Spa’s VIP Woodlands Grand Opening

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 8, 2018

Some of the Houston area’s most interesting and influential people recently got the first sneak peek at the hottest new drip spa in Texas.

Hall-of-fame athletes rubbed elbows and sipped libations with TV socialites and medical professionals at the grand opening of ThrIVe Drip Spa’s newest location at Market Street in The Woodlands on July 12. The invitation-only event served as a stunning introduction to the exclusive benefits of advanced hydration therapy and cryotherapy now available to the public in Houston and The Woodlands. Plans call for a third location in Manhattan, New York.

With two Houston-area locations now open, we want everyone to be able to experience the rejuvenating and revitalizing health benefits offered by both of these therapies.

Erin Kemp, Director of Marketing and Branding

“The health and rejuvenation benefits of a visit to ThrIVe Drip Spa are especially relevant to people who burn a lot of energy and spend a lot of time working and traveling,” said ThrIVe Drip Spa Co-founder Dr. Eugene Lou. “We wanted to introduce these benefits first to the people who will get the most out of them so that they can become brand evangelists for the transformative powers of cryotherapy and IV hydration and vitamin therapy across the Houston area.”

Many VIP partygoers treated themselves to free cryotherapy sessions, subjecting their bodies to subzero temperatures. The cutting-edge treatment is moving into the mainstream after its adoption by superstar athletes like Usain Bolt, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Steph Curry.

“With two Houston-area locations now open, we want everyone to be able to experience the rejuvenating and revitalizing health benefits offered by both of these therapies,” said Erin Kemp, Director of Marketing and Branding. “Our opening night at Market Street may have been a red-carpet affair, but IV drip therapy and cryotherapy are no longer just for the wealthy, the famous and the beautiful. These are benefits we can all enjoy.”

To make an appointment or discover more of the health benefits offered by IV drip therapy and cryotherapy, please visit ThrIVeDripSpa.com.

ZUMA Wire Update: Gates Foundation Invests $45 Million for Health Initiatives in Burkina Faso

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 30, 2018

The latest from ZUMA Press Wire Service says The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced plans to invest more than $45 million over three years in support of ongoing efforts in Burkina Faso to improve nutrition and the health of women and children in the West African country.

Announced by Gates Foundation co-chair Melinda Gates during a visit to the country’s capital, Ouagadougou, the investment includes $34 million for government programs aimed at reducing childhood stunting by half by 2020. Another $10 million will support family planning programs aimed at helping women plan and space their pregnancies.

Burkina Faso has made significant progress against poverty, hunger, and poor health in the face of big challenges and is inspiring other countries in the region to do the same. This progress is no coincidence — it takes leadership.

    Melinda Gates, Gates Foundation Founder

In addition, as part of a $15 million regional funding initiative that includes Benin, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo, the foundation will match every dollar invested by the government of Burkina Faso in 2018 in the purchase of contraceptives. Investments by the foundation also will support higher quality and more timely data collection, enabling partners to measure progress on family planning and nutrition initiatives, design more effective programs, and pinpoint areas of greatest need.

“Burkina Faso has made significant progress against poverty, hunger, and poor health in the face of big challenges and is inspiring other countries in the region to do the same. This progress is no coincidence — it takes leadership,” said Gates. “There is enormous opportunity ahead. If countries like Burkina Faso continue to increase their investments in health and development, then unprecedented progress is possible — and every woman, man, and child in this country will benefit.”

SANESolution Aims to Help Make Weight Loss Lasting With Setpoint Weight

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Nov 10, 2017

SANESolution is revolutionizing the way people approach weight loss. Their scientifically backed, doctor supported system, known as Setpoint WeightTM, reframes the common understanding of metabolism and weight loss into a methodology that achieves sustainable weight loss.

For decades people have struggled to lose excess weight, hoping to return their bodies to their youthful state prior to the tolls of work, children, medications, menopause, and life in general. This meant fad exercises and yo-yo dieting with little to no success. With all these efforts, why does the body seem incapable of lasting change? How do people overcome this “invisible force” fighting them?

For decades people have struggled to lose excess weight, hoping to return to their bodies to their youthful state prior to the tolls of work, children, medications, menopause, and life in general! This meant fad exercises and yo-yo dieting with little to no success. With all these efforts, why does the body seem incapable of lasting change? How do people overcome this ‘invisible force’ fighting them?

    Jonathan Bailor

That’s where SANESolution and Jonathan Bailor come in. Their work establishing the science of Setpoint WeightTM  has provided clear answers for individuals seeking to achieve sustainable weight loss.

An individual’s Setpoint WeightTM is a range of approximately 20 pounds in which the body is trained to believe is its ‘natural weight’. The body attempts to maintain what it thinks is a balanced state of calories in, calories out, and body fat stored, regardless of whether it is idea for health.

Due to a number of factors, as people age, the body becomes “clogged.” This causes the digestive, neurological, and hormonal systems to all function sub-optimally, but the body adapts and begins to think these are the new normal. The body establishes a new higher Setpoint WeightTM. If that Setpoint weight is elevated and an individual wants to lose weight, it is first necessary to ‘unclog’ the systems and lower the Setpoint Weight. Once an individual’s Setpoint Weight has been lowered, sustainable weight loss becomes achievable.

Jonathan Bailor and SANESolution state that after identifying one’s Setpoint WeightTM, SANESolution then lowers it – making the body function more like the body of a young and naturally thin person – resulting in sustainable weight loss. Everything can be boiled down to one choice: ‘Does this increase, or decrease my Setpoint?’

According to SANESolution, diet and nutrition are not the only factors which can influence an individual’s Setpoint Weight. Almost everything has a Setpoint value, from sleep, exercise, and sex, to stress and medication. Knowing their influence and choosing accordingly turns people into their naturally thin, healthy selves. SANESolution makes it simple.

Diets and exercise all fight against the Setpoint WeightTM. In the long run, the body always wins, and yo-yo dieting is the result. Instead of fighting an uphill battle it is possible to flatten the hill. By utilizing SANESolution and understanding Setpoint WeightTM, individuals are learning to lower their Setpoint and change their bodies to have a chance at experiencing sustainable weight loss.
