Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions’ first gameplay shows off multiplayer, character creator

One of the more notable missing elements from the Harry Potter prequel game Hogwarts Legacy was the high-flying sport of quidditch. Publisher Warner Bros. Games will address that exclusion later this year with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a new single-player and online competitive multiplayer game based on the wizarding sport.

Developer Unbroken Games revealed the first gameplay from its Harry Potter quidditch video game this week, showing off some familiar faces, like Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy. There’s also a glimpse of multiple arenas, including the Quidditch World Cup Stadium.

Quidditch enthusiasts will also be able to create the young wizard of their choice. Unbroken Games shows off the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions character creator in the video above, highlighting the choices in houses, clothing, broomsticks, and more. Publisher WB Games says there are “no plans for microtransactions in the game at this time,” which hopefully means what you see is what you’ll get, forever.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be released digitally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on Sept. 3. A physical deluxe edition will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on Nov. 8. A Nintendo Switch version is also coming, and will be released sometime this holiday season, WB Games says.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (and a Firebolt Supreme Broom Skin) as part of September 2024’s downloadable games. The game will be available to keep from Sept. 3-30, if you have an active PS Plus membership of any tier.

  • Bill Murray Crashes ‘Groundhog Day’ Bash at Harry Caray’s Navy Pier

Bill Murray Crashes ‘Groundhog Day’ Bash at Harry Caray’s Navy Pier

Bill Murray surprised folks last week at Navy Pier during an event celebrating the movie Groundhog Hog Day held on Groundhog Day, Friday, February 2. Harry Caray’s Grant DePorter put the show together, reuniting members of the 1993 movie to honor the film’s director, Chicago native Harold Ramis. Ramis was also an investor at Harry Caray’s. The event marked the 10th anniversary of his death.

Luminaries like Sen. Dick Durbin attended as did Ramis’s wife, Erica Mann Ramis. She read a letter written by President Barack Obama. DePorter arranged an elaborate set as a tribute to the movie, giving folks a reason to visit Navy Pier. The winters are slow around most Chicago restaurants, but big crowds rarely fill Navy Pier during the colder months. DePorter sold movie-themed cocktails and brought in a groundhog from Woodstock, using the same animal handler that was used in the movie. Yes, there’s a possibility that this critter, nicknamed Chicago Harry, is related to the star of the movie. In a controversial ruling, Harry did see his shadow, thus sentencing Chicagoans to six more weeks of winter. Even if 40 degrees feels tropical right now.

But as the spring-starved crowd wiped their tears, Brian Doyle-Murray — who appeared in the movie as Buster Green — joined his brother and others to a toast to Harold Ramis, raising glasses of sweet vermouth. Check out the scene in the photos below.

Chicago Harry is the groundhog’s name.

Prince Harry And Meghan Involved In ‘Near Catastrophic’ Car Chase With NYC Paparazzi

Prince Harry, his wife Meghan, and her mother were involved in a “near catastrophic” car chase with paparazzi photographers in New York after an event, drawing some parallels with the high-speed Paris car chase that killed his mother Princess Diana in 1997. What do you think?

“At least we’ll finally see a photo of the elusive Harry And Meghan.”

    Dion Hudson, Plastic Bag Lobbyist

“You’d think after Princess Diana’s tragic death, they’d know to just give the paparazzi what they want.”

    Carl Kasperson, Style Coach

“What’s it going to take for them to finally leave the paparazzi alone?”

Harry and Meghan involved in long-running New York car chase called nearly catastrophic

NEW YORK (AP) — Prince Harry and his wife Meghan were involved in a car chase while being followed by photographers following a charity event in New York, the couple’s office said Wednesday.

The pair, together with Meghan’s mother, were followed for more than two hours by a half-dozen vehicles with blacked out windows after leaving the event.

Their office said in a statement that the chase “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.” It called the incident “near catastrophic.”

“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety,” the statement from the couple said.

  • King Charles Coronation Serves As First Gig For Harry’s Garage Band With Other Neighborhood Dads

King Charles Coronation Serves As First Gig For Harry’s Garage Band With Other Neighborhood Dads

LONDON—Saying the performance would add a dash of rock and roll to the regal procession, royal sources announced Saturday that King Charles’ coronation would also serve as the first gig for the garage band Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, had formed with several other neighborhood dads. “Before Prince William pays personal homage to the newly crowned monarch, we’re going to be treated to a quick set from Prince Harry and the Mystics, who I’m told will play some rocking covers and a few psychedelic originals of their own devising,” Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby told the gathered crowd of thousands as the ’60s-influenced group, which consists of new fathers Prince Harry met around his Montecito, CA neighborhood, started setting up their effect pedals and plugging in their Stratocasters. “I’ve heard they’ve improved quite wonderfully since they began jamming together in Harry’s garage six months ago over their shared love of Cream and the Rolling Stones. They don’t have a drummer yet, and the prince is still mastering the pentatonic scale, but that’s all the more reason to put your hands together. Go ahead and give the boys a warm welcome!” At press time, sources confirmed that an ecstatic Prince Harry had received an email booking the band for a Santa Barbara block party due to the gig’s success.

  • The Haunting of Harry Melling

    The Haunting of Harry Melling

Each of Melling’s characters share an intensity that few performers can muster, let alone replicate. “I think that comes from a place of exposing your inside, your inner life to people. And I don’t know if that’s where the haunted quality comes from,” he tells Vanity Fair. “I mean, my head goes to The Devil All the Time. Certainly there’s something that is definitely eating him away, and Poe to a certain extent as well.”

He’s always striving for difference, so it becomes hard to see similarities. Melling admits he might just be too close to it. “A friend said this to me: ‘You always play restless characters. They’re always on edge in some way,’ which I thought was an interesting observation,” he says. “But it’s very hard to take a step back and to try and work out what is the thing that truly lights the fire in terms of finding a relationship between those performances.”

There are other places you’ve seen Melling: He was the pharma villain Merrick in the Charlize Theron action film The Old Guard, Malcolm in the Denzel Washington version of The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Anya Taylor-Joy’s rival turned ally, Harry Beltik, in The Queen’s Gambit.

But there is one performance for which he is most widely known, although people tend not to recognize him unless it’s pointed out. He was Dudley Dursley, the no-good Muggle cousin in the Harry Potter films. And that role kind of haunts him too.

It’s not that he’s ashamed of Dudley. Melling is proud of his work as Harry Potter’s spoiled bully, but he has worked so hard to escape that role, and yet…it’s the one everyone always brings up—as we’re doing now.

Asked if this part of every interview is a pain in the ass, Melling laughs. “No…I mean, the easy answer is yes, but that’s not the full answer,” he says. “I’m completely and overwhelmingly appreciative of being a part of something as brilliant as Harry Potter. I really am. I’m amazed at generationally how many people have been wrapped up in those stories. But it is amazing that something you did when you were 10 is still something that is very much a priority on the list of talking points. It’s just something that I’ve kind of got used to in a certain sense.”

Also, he understands the curiosity. If he still looked the same, if he was playing similar dim-witted brutes, or just stopped acting completely, people wouldn’t be as thunderstruck when they see who he has become now.

“Part of the fascination is like when you talk about old schoolmates and, ‘Oh, they’re doing this now?’ It’s that same culture of being fascinated by, ‘Oh, you’ll never guess what so-and-so is doing,’” Melling says. “I completely get it, but it’s a mixed bag of both feeling extremely grateful, but naturally, you want to move on. You want to be talking about the work that you’re doing now.”

That brings us back to Edgar Allan Poe. To look at Melling in The Pale Blue Eye is to see a face that looks eerily familiar. We’ve seen it staring forlornly from the textbooks and author bios about the “Raven” and “Fall of the House of Usher” writer since time immemorial. Even if he doesn’t have Poe’s mustache, or the lines from his full 40 years, evident in daguerreotypes from the end of his life, Melling has the eyes—and the sense of dread and sadness welled within them.
