    When you think of Chlöe and Halle, you immediately think: unstoppable sister duo who have dominated everything from concert stages to the silver screen. As five-time Grammy-nominated singers, dancers, and actresses, the sisters aren’t just any old sister act, having made a name for themselves together and individually, as multi-hyphenate creatives who continue to rise.

    Older sister Chlöe just kicked off the second leg of her “In Pieces” Tour, for her debut solo album, after an uber-successful first leg earlier this year. Meanwhile, Halle recently dropped her first solo single, “Angel,” just a few months after making a big blockbuster splash as Ariel in Disney’s live-action hit, “The Little Mermaid.”

    And when the two aren’t busy touring, on set, or dancing away at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour (in fabulous ‘fits no less), the sisters tell POPSUGAR that they like to take the time to simply enjoy their lives and each other — and they do so in the coolest of fashions.

    Enter Victoria’s Secret PINK, who has partnered with Chlöe and Halle for a limited-edition, co-designed collection exuding the stylistic essence of the star sister duo. The new offering centers around laser-cut, mesh activewear sets; alluring yet effortless dresses; pretty puffer coats; and cool cargo pants that can go from the beach to the streets — all made out of dynamic breathable, movable, resistant fabrics. It’s a transitional, comfortable, and chic collection of clothes reflective of their separate style personalities and favorite trends. And while the designs are distinctly their own, they embody a sisterly cohesiveness Halle calls “one and the same.”

    Even over the phone, the sister energy is strongly present. Not only do Chlöe and Halle lovingly support each other fully in all their individual endeavors, they also make sure to check on each other’s mental health and wellness. The sisters stress the importance of mental health education and helping others who struggle, which is why the duo and PINK decided to partner with Los Angeles nonprofit BEAM, the Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective, to help communities of color with mental health wellness and education.

    The PINK collection isn’t the only thing fans of the duo have to look forward to. Chlöe is setting out to continue her tour and Halle is preparing for the release of the musical adaption of Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple” this Christmas.

    When Bailey stepped into the role of Ariel, she entered the world of FODs  (First, Only, Different—a phrase coined by Shonda Rhimes). Bailey is quick to give flowers to the FODs who came before her, Brandy Norwood (who played Cinderella in the 1997 Rodgers and Hammerstein TV adaptation) and Anika Noni Rose (the voice of Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess, in The Princess and the Frog).

    For a girl who once played with mermaids with her sister, landing the part of Ariel is a dream come true for Bailey, and she hopes her casting is one day seen as standard and not extraordinary. “It’s crazy, because we’re in the year 2023. You would think that these firsts are not firsts anymore,” she says with wistful optimism. “I just hope that for the future it’s not such a shock anymore for a Black woman to be cast as Ariel and for that to just be a normal thing.”

    While the character of Ariel means so much to many, it’s beautiful to hear how much the character taught Bailey.

    “I’ve been comfortable really just being with somebody all the time. Somebody has always held my hand. I’ve never had to do anything alone. So this was really my first venture into solo adulthood. I had moved to London, and I was in intense rehearsals and stunts and mermaid training, and all of a sudden, I’m going through this not only physical transformation but [also] mental and spiritual transformation of me finding who I am on my own and building that confidence within myself to be able to do these things,” she says. “So I truly feel like Ariel taught me that I’m worthy, and I’m stronger than I thought. We were filming in the middle of the pandemic and in London, and my family couldn’t come visit me. So I was very isolated. Everything was closed down. I would literally go from work to home, and I would sleep on the weekends because I’d be so tired, and then I’d go right back to work. But looking back, I am happy that it was that way. [It] helped me mirror the emotions Ariel was feeling in the film to where she felt trapped and isolated and ready to see a brand-new world where her heart belonged. I felt like there were parallels to both of our lives in the time that I was filming, and I was grateful for that.”

    Halle Bailey was committed to perfecting Ariel’s iconic hair flip in “The Little Mermaid”.

    The shot, which is seen in the trailer for the upcoming live action Disney movie, was so challenging that it took the actress an entire day to get it right.

    Despite telling EW that the scene was “fun” to film, Bailey, 23, noted that “it was definitely hard.”

    “My hair was really, really heavy,” she explained. “I have my locs, which are my favourite thing. I’ve had my locs since I was 5. It feels like wool when it’s wet. So it gets heavier. It kind of almost doubles the weight when they’re heavy.”

    Halle Bailey recalls her hard work to become Princess Ariel for Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid,” including some days spending a whopping 13 hours in the water filming.

    “I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in life,” Bailey revealed in a new interview with Edition magazine while discussing her long days immersed in water on set.

    Explaining that she could draw strength from the beloved character’s spirit to overcome difficult days, she continued, “And I feel like the message from [Ariel] was to know that you’ve always had it in you.”

    To shoot the underwater moments, the film’s director Rob Marshall (“Chicago,” “Into the Woods”), used water tanks and visual effects to pull off the scenes, Variety reports.

    In the 1989 classic animated film, Princess Ariel, unsatisfied with her life under the sea, decides to leave her home to pursue love in the human world with Prince Eric, against her father’s instructions.

    Bailey says the upcoming film veers in a different, more empowering direction.

    “I’m really excited for my version of the film because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy,” she explained. “It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants.”

    “As women, we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and above,” she added. “And I’m glad that Disney is updating some of those themes.”

    Bailey, who grew up playing mermaids in the pool with her sister and fellow Chlöe x Halle member Chlöe Bailey, told E! News in November that she’s thrilled to introduce the red-headed mermaid to a new generation.

    Sharing that what “touches [her] the most” has been witnessing kids’ reactions to her performance of “Part of Your World” since its release in September, she said, “It just makes me cry.”

    The Grammy nominee added, “The fact that all these little Black and Brown babies are going to be able to feel like they’re being represented is really special to me. I know that if I had that when I was younger, it would have changed a whole lot for me and my perspective on who I am as an individual.”

    The upcoming live-action adaptation also stars Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.

    Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” arrives in theaters on May 26.

    Halle Bailey has a huge year coming up. While appearing as Ariel in The Little Mermaid is every girl’s dream, it’s not exactly as easy as it looks. The upcoming live-action remake filmed more scenes involving real water than you might expect. As a result Bailey had some extremely intense days filming her role as Ariel.

    She recently shared some of her struggles with Edition. Apparently, Bailey “was in the water for 13 hours or on a harness for hours on end.” She added, “I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in life.”

    Bailey also said of the experience shooting The Little Mermaid…

The movie includes the famous Little Mermaid songs, as well as several new tracks written for this remake.

    The Little Mermaid is scheduled for release in theaters on May 26.

For the relaunch of the Horsebit 1955, the Italian house tapped the unexpected trio of zeitgeisty stars (Bailey will play Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid; Hanni, a Gucci global brand ambassador, plans to make her Lollapalooza debut with the K-pop girl group NewJeans; and Ozark’s Garner, who last mimicked Anna Delvey’s hilariously bizarre accent in Inventing Anna, is reportedly keeping her “fingers crossed” for the Madonna biopic) to model the iconic accessory.

    To the uninitiated, the new-and-improved Horsebit 1955 might bear a strong resemblance to the initial design from six decades ago, introduced two years after the hardware appeared in the brand’s collections. But the reimagined version as we know it today was, in fact, first presented at the Capitoline Museums during Gucci’s cruise 2020 show. Easily distinguishable by its archival equestrian emblem, the perpetually coveted, celebrity-loved bag still features the trademark double ring and bar, which drew inspiration from horseback riding—specifically, the snaffle on a horse’s bridle—a favorite hobby among Gucci customers from the get-go (because, the ’50s). Now, the Horsebit is featured on a plethora of prints and accessories from the house, including its famous loafers. Though the Horsebit 1955 honors Gucci codes, the latest iteration comes in a range of silhouettes (think: a dome-shaped top-handle), as well as sizes, colors, and materials for a “choose your own adventure” type of styling experience.

    In a new campaign shot by Mert & Marcus, premiering exclusively on ELLE.com, Bailey, Hanni, and Garner, who’s also one of the faces of Gucci Guilty, team up for an intimate portrait series where they each pose with the Horsebit in their own unique way, bringing the past firmly into the present, as three women who are currently owning their respective fields. With that in mind, ahead of the campaign launch, we asked the trio: How do you find your personal style?     Josh Gad is showing support for fellow Disney star Halle Bailey.

    After the premiere of the first official trailer for Disney’s reboot of the classic 1989 film “The Little Mermaid” was met with racist backlash last week, Gad called out social media trolls on Twitter over their relentless discrimination over Bailey’s casting.

    Bailey — who stars as the iconic character Ariel aka the youngest daughter of King Triton in the upcoming live-action adaptation — has been targeted with hateful retaliation since it was announced in 2019 that a Black actor would star as the redheaded mermaid princess.

    The new trailer’s Youtube video was so badly trolled that it was disliked over 600,000 times, with the teaser trailer also garnering over 3 million dislikes since it debuted in September.

    “Imagine being so broken and pathetic in life that your chief concern is the skin color of… a make-believe singing mermaid,” the 42-year-old actor tweeted Thursday.

    In November, Bailey opened up about overcoming her “nerves” over starring as the beloved Disney princess.

    “I don’t feel any pressure anymore,” the 22-year-old told E! News when asked about starring as the titular character. “I think that before I started filming, I did feel some nerves naturally because the film is so important to so many people.”

    She also said she’s been able to ward off her anxiety with the help of her close friends and family, including older sister Chloe Bailey.

    “I just lean on them and I know that I just give it my 100 percent,” Bailey said. “I did my best, that’s all I can do. I’m just really grateful to see it all play out.”

    Back in 2019, she spoke about the backlash she suffered, insisting that she was unfazed by her online trolls.

    “I feel like I’m dreaming, and I’m just grateful. I don’t pay attention to the negativity,” she told Variety at the time. “I just feel like this role is something bigger than me. It’s going to be beautiful. I’m just so excited to be a part of it.”

    The musical fantasy film also stars Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.

    “The Little Mermaid” hits theaters May 26.

    Some people simply refuse to see the magic in Disney‘s upcoming The Little Mermaid live-action remake.

    During the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday, actor Halle Bailey, who plays titular mermaid character Ariel, and Melissa McCarthy, who plays Ursula, introduced the first full-length trailer for the much-anticipated remake.

    Previously, Disney had released two short teaser trailers that offered only glimpses of Ariel and her oceanic companions.

    The new two-minute trailer — which shows scenes of Ariel saving Prince Eric from drowning in a storm — has been viewed 7.9 million times on YouTube. The feedback online, however, has not been entirely positive, with the trailer garnering at least 839,000 dislikes since it was posted on Monday. There are only 165,000 likes on the video.

    Backlash against the film has existed since the project was announced publicly. When it was reported in 2019 that 22-year-old Bailey would play Ariel, there was an instant negative wave of criticism online from those who felt a Black woman should not play the iconic mermaid princess.

    The social media tag #NotMyAriel trended as a result.

    YouTube as a whole even opted to disable the site’s public dislike counter as a result of a hateful barrage on the original teaser trailer, which amassed 1.5 million dislikes in the first two days of its September 2022 release.

    Last month, Bailey spoke to the magazine The Face about the racism she’s experienced as a result of playing Ariel.

    “As a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock anymore,” she told the outlet.

    Still, Bailey said she does not have regrets and maintained that it is important to see Black people in major movies.

    “People don’t understand that when you’re Black there’s this whole other community. It’s so important for us to see ourselves,” she said.

    Bailey said the reaction from young Black girls who watched the original trailer and saw themselves in the newest Disney princess was enough to remind her of that importance. Within hours of the original trailer’s release, parents on social media shared dozens of videos of their children reacting to the first view of Bailey as Ariel.

    Sitting directly in front of her TV, one young girl shouted as Ariel appeared on screen, and even did a double-take to make sure what she was seeing was true. While rolling with excitement on the floor, the girl said, “She’s brown like me. I’m so excited.”

    The new live-action film is a remake of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid from 1989. The story follows a young mermaid, Ariel, who makes a deal with an evil sea witch to grow legs and live on land in order to fall in love with a prince, all at the cost of her voice.

    Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric, while several other powerhouse performers play various roles, including Javier Bardem as Ariel’s father King Triton, Daveed Diggs as the crab Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Ariel’s best fish friend Flounder and Awkwafina as the seagull, Scuttle.

    ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ to feature Duran Duran, New Edition

    NEW YORK — Ryan Seacrest will usher in 2023 on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from Times Square, with iconic bands from the 1980s and 1990s as well as a member of BTS and a TikTok sensation.

    Duran Duran, fresh off an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, will play from a catalogue that includes hits like “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “The Reflex” and “Rio.” R&B and pop group New Edition will celebrate their 40th anniversary by performing a medley of chart-toppers and solo hits like “Rub You The Right Way,” “My Prerogative,” “Poison,” “If It Isn’t Love,” and “Cool It Now.”

    J-hope, South Korean songwriter and member of BTS, will play a medley of his “= (Equal Sign),” “Chicken Noodle Soup” and the band’s “Butter.” And Tik-Tok star Jax will sing pop hits “Victoria’s Secret” and “90s Kids.” Singer and rapper Farruko will perform from Puerto Rico.

    Actress and producer Liza Koshy will return as co-host alongside Seacrest, actor-singer Roselyn Sanchez will co-host from Puerto Rico and Billy Porter will be back in New Orleans for the Central Time Zone countdown.

    There will be pre-taped performances in Disneyland from Aly & AJ, Bailey Zimmerman, Ben Platt, Ciara, Fitz & The Tantrums, Halle Bailey, Lauren Spencer Smith, Maddie & Tae, Shaggy and TXT. And from Los Angeles, there will be performances by Armani White, Betty Who, Dove Cameron, Finneas, Nicky Youre and Wiz Khalifa.

    Seacrest, inheritor of ABC’s legendary “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from Dick Clark, reached 19.6 million viewers between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., last New Year’s Eve, according to Nielsen. During the 15-minute interval where the ball dropped in New York’s Times Square, his audience jumped to 24.2 million people.

    “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” will air Dec. 31 on ABC.
