  • 37 fringe hairstyles if you’re considering bangs

    [ad_1]

Few hairstyles are as timeless, versatile and relevant as a fringe. In every decade fringes have found a way to make face-framing look beautiful, from the ’50s Audrey fringe to ’70s curtain bangs, voluminous ’80s fringes, wispy ’90s fringes or side-swept ’00s side-bangs.

The good news is they’re as popular (if not more) than ever right now. “There’s a huge fringe revival happening,” confirms celebrity hair stylist and ColorWow international creative director, Dom Seeley. Even better, the question isn’t whether to get get a fringe, but which fringe hairstyle to choose. “There are so many variations, from wispy to blunt, or curtain-style like Sabrina Carpenter,” notes Dom.

Below, we’ve rounded up the most popular fringe hairstyles for 2025/6…

    The Audrey fringe

Alongside big, swooshy curtain bangs, you may have noticed another emerging fringe hairstyle vying for the top spot recently. Enter: the Audrey fringe, also known as letterbox bangs. The Audrey Hepburn-inspired fringe features a brow-revealing length that’s been emulated by everyone from Ariana Grande, to Zoe Kravitz, Leighton Meester, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Lais Ribeiro and Alicia Keys.

“This style is ‘piecey’ and not overly thick, so hints of the forehead can be seen through them,” explains top hair stylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith, who predicted it would take off last year. “And, thanks to the lighter density, it won’t look blocky,” he adds.

    The boho fringe

Is it 2004 or is bohemian fashion and beauty having a very modern revival? Led by the likes of Suki Waterhouse, Sienna Miller and Daisy Edgar-Jones, floaty dresses and floaty fringes are making a comeback. Hair-wise, the key to a fringe hairstyle like this is a softly ruffled shape (nothing too sharp or blunt). The beauty is that it makes this fringe much more versatile. It can be worn straight across (and full and thicker looking) or parted to look closer to a curtain fringe. It should be “quite full, with some separation (but not too wispy),” explains pro hair stylist and Aveda educator, Leah Hill, who notes it can be shaped into a few different styles. Paired with a mussed-up, free-spirited texture, the boho fringe is set to be a headliner.

Or perhaps you fancy rekindling your love for the Cowboy Carter tour with a nod to the Texan blowout? • The boho bob is having a moment – here’s how to style it

    [ad_1]

Bobs aren’t going anywhere. As we approach the end of the summer, 2025’s favourite haircut is still front and centre. Say hello to the boho bob.

Perfect for those looking to refresh their short style, but are after something more effortless, the boho bob is a versatile cut with a more tousled and textured feel at the opposite end of the spectrum to sleek, blunt bobs.

If you’re looking for a new style as autumn approaches, here’s everything you need to know about the boho bob.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

    What is the boho bob?

“Think of the boho bob as a softer, freer version of the traditional bob,” Melissa Timperley, founder of Melissa Salons, tells GLAMOUR. “The beauty of this style is that it’s long enough to tie back, but short enough to feel fresh and modern. It strikes the perfect balance between structure and effortlessness – ideal for those who want a low-maintenance cut that still makes a statement.”

You’ll have already spotted the style on everyone from Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid to Lily Collins and Selena Gomez. But don’t worry, it’s not too late to join them as the style works just as well for autumn and it does for summer.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Who does the boho bob work best for?

The best part about the boho bob is that it works for (almost) everyone. Unlike more blunt bobs – which can accentuate longer or more square face shapes – the versatile boho bob can be tailored to hide or highlight your face shape.”Where the cut ends is where the eye is drawn,” says Melissa. “If you’re not keen on highlighting your chin, avoid a chin-length bob and opt for a slightly longer version to draw the eye downward.” While anyone can try out the style, Melissa says that rounder or fuller faces benefit the most, by “adding movement and elongation”.

If you’re looking to take the plunge, Gem Schwartz, founder of Taylor Rose Hair, suggests bringing your favourite reference images to help guide your stylist. “Ask for a bob that sits between the chin and shoulders with floaty layers and soft face-framing movement,” she advises. “If you want extra fullness, speak to your stylist about adding a few rows of micro ring or keratin extensions or even tape-in hair extensions just around the baseline or mid sections. It’s a subtle enhancement that can transform the cut without making it look like you’re wearing extensions at all.”

  • 9 ways to wear brown hair with blonde highlights, from babylights to rebel streaks

9 ways to wear brown hair with blonde highlights, from babylights to rebel streaks

    [ad_1]

It’s no surprise that brown hair with blonde highlights remains one of the easiest (and prettiest) ways to wear hair in 2024. The best-of-both hair colour brings together the casual feel of brunette with the luminosity of blonde, to deliver a hair colour that feels bright, beautiful and low maintenance.

If you’re looking to intensify your strands, there are endless gorgeous highlighting techniques to choose from. They suit a broad range of aesthetics, too, whether you want something subtle and delicate (like balayage and babylights), or some high-contrast drama (see: rebel streaks and chunky ’90s highlights).

The techniques are getting more specific and tactical, too. Modern highlights have the power to accentuate facial features and brighten complexions – like your own personal golden hour. You can use colour techniques to create the illusion of light across your strands, whether you want a mini glow-up, a low-maintenance look that will grow our seamlessly, or you want to amplify pretty texture. Where you concentrate that spotlight is up to you.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Before deciding what direction you want to head in, we’ve answered a couple of Google’s most-asked questions when it comes to brown hair with blonde highlights…

Do blonde highlights look good in brown hair?

Of course, there’s as many different shades of brown as there are of blonde and not all combinations will work for your natural colour, your skin tone or your preferred aesthetic. That’s why it’s important to sit down with your colourist to work out what you want to achieve. It’s helpful to take inspo pictures, especially of people with a similar base or natural hair colour to you, and similar colouring. But, blonde highlights can look good across all different brunettes. In general, if you want a softer look, it’s best to keep things low contrast, so if you have dark brunette hair, opt for a darker shade of blonde highlights, or more of a caramel or bronze. If you have mid-light brunette hair, you can push things brighter. That said, high-contrast moneypiece face-framing sections are still popular and nineties chunky highlights have made a return.

  • Dakota Johnson gave us a lesson in the perfect vintage summer updo

Dakota Johnson gave us a lesson in the perfect vintage summer updo

    [ad_1]

Dakota Johnson is definitely high on our list of style crushes. She never puts a foot wrong when it comes to serving up equally covetable and wearable and classic outfits. Likewise her hairstyle and statement fringe was giving us timeless inspo waaay before TikTok sold us on quiet luxury.

While Dakota tends to wear her long hair straight, shiny and loose the majority of the time, we’ve noticed that there is one hairstyle in particular that she regularly enters into her rotation to keep things interesting and elevated (quite literally). And, like her style, it’s charming, cute and references an old-school aesthetic.

The style in question is the vintage updo favoured by the likes of ’50s film stars like Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. Most recently, we saw Dakota wear the style while visiting the LA set of talkshow host Jimmy Kimmel last month on 19th June.

For the occasion, Dakota chose a classic white T-shirt, black cardigan and bootleg jeans, but she added some sophistication with some retro cat-eye sunglasses, chunky gold hoops and a Hepburn bun piled high on the crown of her head. However, she added her own spin by keeping her full, swishy fringe out and loosening the strands around her face to make it a little less polished and more casual.

  • 35 short hairstyles we love – from buzz cuts to jaw-skimming bobs

35 short hairstyles we love – from buzz cuts to jaw-skimming bobs

    [ad_1]

If you fancy something both badass and feminine, a softly chopped crop is rebelliously relaxed but still statement-making. Ditto, the curly chop rocked by one of our fave hair crushes, stylist Rachel Renae Paz, who’s taken her own hair from ultra short back down to her collarbone and killed every single length in between. And Rowan Blanchard’s nape length page boy cut dusts the style off and gives it a new, alluring revival.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

As for choosing your chop, the best way to find your perfect short hairstyle is to pick a look you’d love to copy. Then, consider whether it would work on your shape face and hair type. If you’re still unsure, take a picture to your hairdresser, ask them what might be possible and get their recommendations on how to tweak it to work best for you. To help get you started, we’ve asked hair pro Larry King to answer some of the most-asked short hair questions below…

What are the biggest short haircuts right now?

According to Larry, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer as 2024 will be very much about experimenting with hairstyles that are personal and bespoke to you. “When thinking about short haircuts, there is so much variety – from the pixie cuts, to short mullets, to maybe longer at the front, shorter at the back. Think more 2000s haircuts that you saw on Winona Ryder,” he says.

Short hair in general “is going to be big,” says Larry. “I think girls are going to really move forward into short hair. You’re seeing lots of models do it right now, you’ve seen it on the catwalks quite a lot. It gives you so much individuality and makes you stand out – its really striking.”

One style we’re continuing to see loads of is the shorter wolf cut, or “cub cut,” which offers a cropped rendition of it’s big sis, the wolf cut. It has just as much attitude, only with a fresher, shoulder-baring length and picks up the mood of ultra choppy cuts like the shag and mullet that have been trending over the past couple of years.

  • I discovered my new favourite protective hairstyle on a recent trip to Ghana

I discovered my new favourite protective hairstyle on a recent trip to Ghana

    [ad_1]

During my recent trip back home to Ghana, as I sat in my favourite salon in Accra, I noticed every other client in the room is getting French curl braids. Also known as ‘Nollywood braids’, this regal style of box braids starts with neatly parted thin braids and cascades into voluminous curls at the end.

“The appeal [of this style] is the silky, bouncy look of the braids, not to mention they are lightweight,” says Nigerian content creator, hairstylist, and owner of Chi’s Luxe Braiding hair Chinyere “Chi-Chi” Adogu. And the style’s popularity extends well beyond Accra and Lagos: The braids are dominating TikTok with millions of fans (278.7 million views on the #frenchcurl braids and 4.6 million views on the #nollywoodbraids, to be exact).

I should note that the look isn’t brand new but rather in its comeback era after its prime in the ‘90s and early noughties. Brooklyn-based braider Helena Koudou remembers the style as “Yaki Pony Braids” back when stars like Brandy frequently wore the look in the early 2000s. Around that time, it was also a go-to style for Nigerian actresses in Nollywood movies, which is how it got the name Nollywood braids.

    Ese Eboigbe

The Nollywood style started slowly making its way back to the wider spotlight in 2022, after already resurfacing on crowns in West Africa. Adogu recalls being in Nigeria two years ago and “seeing all the women in silky curly braids.” Koudou noticed this too and anticipated the trend would make its way abroad. “I bought French curl hair in the Ivory Coast in December of 2022 to bring back to New York and a couple of months later people started requesting the style,” says Koudou. The trend died down in the middle of 2023 but now that African diasporas have made their way back to the states after the holidays, French curl braids are back in demand at the top of 2024.

    Getty Images

What type of hair is used for French curl braids?

This style is all about the voluminous curly ends, using synthetic hair ensures that the bouncy curls will hold their shape no matter the weather or wear time. Specialised boutiques like Chi’s Luxe Braiding Hair (which exclusively sells French curl braiding hair) have mastered a synthetic blend that looks and feels like human hair. But, there’s plenty of sellers on Amazon who also sell French curl braiding hair specifically.

The number of packs needed for a style always depends on the size and length of the braids and the amount of hair that’s in a pack, Koudou explains. If you’re getting your French curl braids in a small size (one-inch wide braids) down to the middle of your back, five to eight packs are enough for the whole head. Koudou suggests checking if your salon offers French curl braiding hair (especially if you’re opting for a blended colour like honey blonde). Amazon offers a variety of options like WoWCFyyds French Curl Braiding hair in chocolate and caramel and Xtrend French Curly Braiding Hair in on trend cherry cola.

What to expect during an appointment for French curl braids

Like most protective styles, French curl braids stay in for a few weeks so it’s important that your scalp is clean and your hair is moisturised before being tucked away. Some stylists offer a pre-styling service, but if that’s not an option for you, be sure to arrive at your appointment with freshly-washed, blow-dried hair.

The style can take anywhere from four to seven hours to complete. The session will start with the stylist parting and braiding your hair, feeding in pieces of braiding hair until you reach your desired length. If you’re attempting this style at home, it’s important to tie a knot where you decide to stop braiding and let the curl loose to ensure the braid doesn’t unravel. Other box braid styles — like boho braids — require dipping the hair in hot water to loosen the hair or activate the curl pattern but you can skip that step with French curl braids since the hair already comes in the final curl pattern. Dipping it in hot water could ruin the hair.

How long do French curl braids last?

Expect your French curl braids to last up to six weeks with proper maintenance. The age of your braids will start to show first in the loose curls. To avoid tangling and matting, Koudou recommends spraying the ends with water and brushing the hair out lightly.

To help extend the wear of the style, you’ll want to follow a simple night time routine: “Before bed, twist the hair into two pigtails before putting on your bonnet. This will help the curls last longer,” says Koudou.

  • How to nail slicked-back hair

    How to nail slicked-back hair

    [ad_1]

Slicked-back hair is currently having a major moment. Spotted up and down the Autumn/Winter ’23 runway, scraped-back, polished buns turned heads at Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu and Julian Macdonald. Elsewhere, at Brandon Maxwell and Etro, hair was let loose and combed back with gel for a wet-look effect.

Proving to be just as popular off the runway, countless celebrities and fashion influencers have experimented with this style (Lizzo, Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and the Kardashian-Jenner clan are all fans).

To nail the look at home, legendary hair stylist Sam McKnight recommends lightly applying his Self Control Styling Gel to the roots before brushing the hair back to “smooth and flatten it.” The result? A “strong, powerful and sleek style.”

Slicked back hair is pretty versatile, and can take on several different styles – from a sharp, knotted chignon to a polished sky-high ponytail. For inspo, scroll on down to find our favourite interpretations that are perfect for party season and beyond.

  • The low ponytail is sophisticated, chic and seriously underrated

The low ponytail is sophisticated, chic and seriously underrated

    [ad_1]

Ah, the humble low ponytail. Not only is it one of the most sophisticated hairstyles, it’s also one of the most versatile – able to be accessorised-up or dressed-down depending on the occasion and on your own personal style.

For those thinking that the look is a one trick pony, we’d have to argue back. Add an oversized scrunchie and it’s suddenly playful and statement. Tie a silk ribbon around the base in a neat bow, and boom, Victoriana hair at its finest. Or, for a high fashion finish, add multiple slides to nail this season’s biggest hair trend, stacked hair accessories.

Just this week Jenna Ortega attended the premiere of her latest film, American crime thriller drama, Finestkind, where she paired her sheer white lace corset blazer dress with a sleek low ponytail. She paired it with her signature chunky curtain bangs which framed her face and styled it semi-straight with a little minimal wave put through the ends.

    Randy Shropshire

Styled intentionally it can help a look feel updated and up to date while offering some pared back style kudos. As for how to recreate Jenna’s low pony, hairstylists in-the-know recommend creating a low half-up style to lay the top and the crown of your hair down flat, then gathering the rest of the loose hair up into the half-up ponytail, blending and tying them together.

But beyond Jenna’s recent rendition, there’s loads of ways to pull it back off the face. You could braid it back, slick it down with hair gel for a wet-look finish or keep it disheveled and romantic with a few strands kept loose a the front to frame the face.

    Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The low ponytail offers an easy to achieve a hairstyle that works on so many hair lengths from a blunt bob to extra long hair, as well as a vast array of different hair textures, from tight curls to poker straight hair.

The key to its success, as always, is in the prep. Make sure hair is nourished and hydrated (especially if it’s long) and take into account that the look can be better on fine hair if it isn’t freshly washed. Even if you’re creating a sleek style, second day hair can add longevity, helping it to stay in place throughout the day.

With all eyes on you for your big day, it makes sense that you’d want to choose your wedding hairstyles carefully. After all, the ceremony and reception may go quick, but the photos last a lifetime.

The right style should match you and your personality. It should beautifully complement your wedding dress, and it needs to fit in seamlessly with the vibe you want to create for your day – be it relaxed, glamorous, modern or romantic.

It can be a balancing act, especially if you also want to nod to current trends. The key is to capture a moment in time, but also create a look that’s ageless and will stand the test of time in pictures for years to come. (Anyone who’s watched Four Weddings & A Funeral will know, crunchy curls and bouffant perms didn’t quite make it into the next decade.) That’s why, choosing your perfect wedding hairstyle deserves a little planning, no matter whether you’re the bride or a guest.

While your outfit may be the show-stopper (from your wedding dress, bridesmaid attire or wedding guest dress), its those finishing touches like your makeup and hair that can elevate everything and pull the look together. Case in point: loose waves vs an updo. Choosing one over the other can change the mood of your bridal look altogether. Plus on such a personal day, your hair is one more way you can introduce your own individual touch.

If you need a little help, no stress, we consulted top celebrity hair stylist and ColorWow creative director, Dom Seeley, for his take on the styles and details to consider…

What advice would you give for choosing the style?

    Stick to your own style

Start by celebrating your own personal style and the looks you gravitate toward regularly. The style you choose needs to represent you and the tone of the wedding. Whether you’re after something more sophisticated, rock chick or beachy, this will play into choosing a hairstyle that’s right for you. “To get the best out of your wedding hairstyle, don’t steer too far away from what you’re comfortable with on your day to day. I see far too many brides veer so far away from how they usually wear their hair that when they look back at their content from the day, the glam hair or makeup isn’t a true reflection of themselves,” he says.

38 stunning updo hairstyles that are bringing sexy back

    [ad_1]

So, no matter if your vibe is snatched, or sexily dishevelled, we’ve seen numerous ways to show a little shoulder or nape action. But, as well as looking super stylish, an updo is a great way to manage second-day (or even third-day) hair. While glossy waves and glass hair always look best on freshly washed and styled hair, an updo benefits from a little bit of grit and texture that naturally occurs a day or few post wash. Plus, a couple of spritzes of dry shampoo will only serve to improve the overall updo, adding hold and volume that will make your style go further.

Whether you’re working a scruffy second-day topknot, adding a side of chic with a ballerina bun, or going all-out wow with an intricate braided design, hair up is always a great idea. Plus, there’s plenty of options for long, short and medium length hair, curly, wavy or straight.

  • Selena Gomez matched her hair to her tattoo

Selena Gomez matched her hair to her tattoo

    [ad_1]

So we tapped up Dom to ask for more info. “The brief was romantic, but there’s a fine line of it going a bit ‘wedding’, so we have to bring it back to fashion,” he reveals. “The shape was key for this look, we didn’t want a ballerina bun or something simple. We wanted it to be almost Moulin Rouge or Burlesque-esque,” he adds.

As for how to achieve it, “start by blow drying the hair into the direction of the bun position so it makes it sleek and neat,” says Dom, whose Instagram bio lists his credentials as International Creative Director at Color Wow. “Pull it into a high ponytail, brushing it back into position just under the crown of the head. Once the pony is in place and tied off, start to twist and add interest and texture, pinning as you go” he says.

“The bun shape was rounded and prominent in the front but at the back, it fell and cascaded much closer to the head, folding in on itself to add texture and depth. I left out a section at the very back and made an intricate detail and swirled the remaining hair into place – again to add a fashion element,” he says.

Once set, Dom detailed out the baby hairs and edges and cleaned up the hairline, (we reckon a bit of ColorWow Pop & Lock High Gloss might have been involved to lock baby hairs into place and add shine). “I wanted the bun to play a part, so I kept the hairline feminine and not too strong,” he revealed. And there you have it, a Selena Gomez worthy updo that quite literally offers a fresh twist on the ballerina bun and looks stunning while you’re at it.

And if you’re here for all the deets, the singer finished the look off with a romantic red velvet makeup look created by mua, Avia Solomon, who used Rare Beauty to create a statement red lip that looks suspiciously like the Lip Souffle in Inspire to us… Yum.
